Shutters Restaurant is a lovely dog-friendly spot in Killin, perfect for a quick stop with your furry friend. The staff are known to be very welcoming to dogs and their owners, providing water bowls and complimentary treats for the four-legged visitors. Visitors have praised the friendly and helpful staff, as well as the great value for money. With free parking nearby, it's an ideal place to enjoy a delicious meal or snack while exploring the village of Killin.
Such a lovely place, a must when stopping in Killin! The baked goods and the coffee are delicious. It’s spacious inside and very cosy! (PS : This place is now called Kula Coffee Shop)
Gabriella C — Google review
Not called Shutters anymore but now called „Kula Coffee Shop“. Classic touristic scam spot, try to avoid it. Service was not nice rather rude and didn’t care about us despite it was not full. The food is awful 🙈 See the attached image of a „Pastrami, Emental and Gerkins“ Sandwich served on the whitest never touched a heat toast I‘ve seen so far. Only god knows which kind of pieces this meat was on this „sandwich“ as well. Yeah likely not coming back again but the restaurant is quite calm.
Falko B — Google review
This was one of the few places open on a Bank Holiday. We were after some hot food of proper main meal proportions. They said they did do hot food. This was also told to some German customers. By hot food it was more snack/small meal offerings of soup, panini & baked potato. Outside pergola with several picnic style benches plus an inside seating area. Orders came quickly. Baked potatoe was tepid. I’d requested the cheese on first so it would melt then the tuna mayo. The cheese didn’t even get warm never mind melt. He potato was extremely dry & had no butter. It came with a small side salad & a few crisps. Partner had small soup which was tomato & chorizo. Could barely get a hint of paprika and what little chorizo was in it must have been blended in. Again, would not describe this as hot. The panini was ok. Just okay. Asked for pastrami & cheese. Most places give pastrami strips but this seemed like a money saving ‘hack’ where it was a sprinkling of crumbled up bits for a garnish. A black coffee. A can of cola was £3.50!! We had been tempted by the array of good looking cakes by the till so got a slice of Biscoff cake to take away. Had it an hour later but like the potato, it was bone dry & again like the potato, more than half was binned. All of this came to £33 which even coming from a big tourist city, we felt was very expensive. The young waitresses were nice enough but I did hear them talking unfavourably about customers wanting hot food & not thinking a panini is that. The place was clean, allows dogs but I can’t recommend it for the price, quality or variety of food.

Now seems to trade as Kula, the cakes were very pleasant but the younger members of staff do not seem to understand the concept of table service, we both had coffee and a piece of cake and when paying bill was asked if everything was satisfactory, I did make the comment that a napkin would have been nice I was pointed to a stack of them next to the cutlery tray with the comment that they only brought a napkin when food was being served (guess Victoria sponge is not food). Finally given what sounded like a sarcastic "have a nice" as we left
Steve T — Google review
This is a fantastic, family-friendly restaurant in Pitlochry. The food is delicious and the service is great too. Coffee and cake so good we went back the next day for breakfast. Has a stylish, traditional feel and reasonably priced. Girls are super friendly
Aleksandra R — Google review
Managed to order and get coffees, hot chocolate and soft drinks just before they shut at 4 on Saturday and they had no issue with us being outside at one of the tables for half an hour after 4 even though they shut up at 4. Drinks were good, reasonably priced and the staff were friendly and super helpful.
Jim M — Google review
I've visited here a few times stopping off on a bike run for a coffee and a sandwich. This time there were four of us on two bikes. We managed to squeeze into some space in front of the premises which is always our preferred option. We all ordered sandwiches which come with a small side salad and some crisps. The sandwiches were good, but I'd have to be honest and say a little on the expensive side, your not paying supermarket meal deal prices here. Which is fair enough, we were sitting outside in glorious sunshine, watching the world go by. Had it been a typical Scottish summers day and we were looking for sustenance, this probably wouldn't have been getting top marks. A couple of other reviews have mentioned the service. I've been here a number of times and never had any issues with the girls serving. What I have seen is that they are really busy, they never stop, but they, as far as I'm concerned do a great job under pressure. Yea, it may take a couple of minutes, for them to get back to your table as their trying to sort out three other tables, but they get there. Relax and enjoy the time with your companions. That said, places which are less expensive, tend to be able to trade all year round, places like Kula need to make their money for the whole year in a smaller, and unpredictable time frame, so the option you are faced with is, do you pay what seems expensive prices and moan about it, or do you realise that, your visiting a lovely part of the world, helping a local business survive into the following year. I like to think I take the later view of it. Will I be back? Probably, and I'll look at it as a treat, not a mandatory stop.

Now called KULA Cafe. Stopped for lunch. Went inside and was informed by the counter assistant that it was table service only and to take a seat outside and they would come and take the order. Over the next 20 minutes three separate individuals with dogs came in and the waitress appeared and clapped the dog and took their order. This was repeated 3 times and still we sat there. The waitress even brought water to the first dog but just ignored us. During this time a table with 6 German tourists who were there before us got up and left as they had not had their order taken. We waited 20 minutes and I went in to the cafe and informed the same counter assistant we had been waiting 20 minutes for our order to be taken and she actually laughed at me and said sarcastically, oh sorry. Ridiculous non service. NEVER again.

Nestled at the western end of Loch Tay, The Courie Inn offers relaxed and comfortable accommodation with beautiful views. The inn features cozy bar and pub menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It has a traditional yet modern feel with quality rooms in various sizes, including a luxurious suite. The restaurant serves smart bistro food while the bar offers a welcoming atmosphere. Stayed here while visiting friends, staff were absolutely lovely and couldn't be more helpful, rooms are spotless and really spacious. Mattresses are so comfortable as well! Had an amazing weekend staying here and couldn't recommend it enough.

What amazing service and incredible food. Staff (Lynn and co) really went out of their way to accommodate 2 extremely tired and late cyclists . Great food, superb service - would certainly reccomend !
Christopher B — Google review
Very friendly, used to receiving cyclists. The room was clean and comfortable. The food was tasty and reasonable portions so that we could have three courses. Breakfast was tasty and filling.
Colin C — Google review
This was our favorite place we stayed at and ate in Scotland on our honeymoon. The owners were very kind to us, service was great and it was very clean. My husband’s venison was to die for delicious, my fish incredibly flavorful as was the bread and salad. Everything they made—they knocked out of the park. The sticky toffee pudding was the best I have ever eaten. We had breakfast the next morning and I loved my pancakes. I cannot recommend this place enough. If we come back to Scotland we are definitely coming here. The location in the town is amazing and it’s a beautiful building.

Lovely food and exceptional service. By far one of the best places to eat in the area. Interesting menu with vegan and GF options

Capercaillie Restaurant and Bar is a lovely rustic inn located in Killin, offering a menu of classic and Indian comfort foods along with a full bar and scenic views. The spacious restaurant is close to the Falls of Dochart, serving a great selection of dishes including pizzas, burgers, and hearty Scottish breakfasts. With friendly staff and dog-friendly facilities, it's an ideal spot for visitors exploring the area or looking for a relaxed dining experience.
This has been rebranded to the River Inn when we visited. Staff were super friendly, helpful and the restaurant had very much a family vibe. The inside has a cabin feel to it; we never visited for food - only drinks - however the plates of food we saw looked plentiful and would definitely come back for more food and drinks again

First time trying here heard they only took over a few months ago but OMG the food was AMAZING, OUT OF THIS WORLD so fresh and tasty, honestly THE best food weve had in a long time ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Tracie M — Google review
Now under new management. Turned up with our 3 well behaved Cavvies to be told strictly a 2 small dog or 1 large dog per table. Found a more welcoming venue for lunch.
Kevin L — Google review
Lovely spacious restaurant in Killin close to Falls of Dochart. Great menu Pizzas, Burgers, good selection of classic mains dishes. A monster Scottish breakfast served mornings only and the best morning rolls ever with sausage, bacon, egg black pudding with doublers and treblers available at a small extra cost. Staff were lovely, very friendly. We had delicious Hunters chicken today with bacon, cheese french fries, coleslaw and salad for £13.95. A grand, hearty portion. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Dennis S — Google review
Arrived at the Falls of Dochart well after 10am and was going for a coffee at the falls of dochart inn but found it all locked up and what a godsend that was because we had to find another coffee shop and what a wonderful one we found. The Capercaillie Restaurant and Bar is a fabulous establishment warm and cosy with a good well priced menu, frendly staff and a view of the river. So if you want a warm welcome and frendly, open when you want want it open not when the owners think they will open establishment head to the Capercaillie Restaurant and Bar
WESSEX M — Google review
Friendly pub restaurant in Killin next to the River Dochart, which you can see from the restaurant. Dog friendly. An outside area above the river, which would be nice on a sunny day. More pub food oriented than coffee and cake. No cake when we visited, but nice coffee. Great location for visiting the rightly famous Falls of Dochart, which can be truly spectacular in speight and great any time of year. Friendly, unfussy service.
Alan B — Google review
Went for food yesterday and it was disgusting, pulled pork looked like it was made weeks ago and left out, hunters chicken was watery and bbq sauce lumpy, chips were solid and the atmosphere was shocking with locals and staff slagging off a new buffet and pizza place the whole time then talking inappropriately about people from the village. Will not be back but will definitely be trying a buffet place and pizza place we didn't know about next time 🙂

UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. Previous reviews are for the old bar/restaurant. This is now a family run business with fantastic greek menu as well as pasta dishes and burgers. Definitely recommended for fresh food and good value.

Nestled along the picturesque riverside, Killin Hotel is a charming stone establishment that offers a cozy retreat for travelers. With warm and inviting rooms, guests can enjoy complimentary breakfast each morning to kickstart their day. The hotel features a delightful bistro and bar, perfect for unwinding after exploring the stunning surroundings. Boat rentals are also available for those looking to venture out on the water.
I have been here for food a few times and always excellent. This time we booked in fir an overnight stay. It was wonderful. The hotel is situated in the most perfect spot, the views are stunning. The food...as always, was fantastic and the service was definitely 5 star. Thank you so much guys, from your kitchen staff to your hotel manager you excel at hospitality.
Eleanor M — Google review
Decent hotel and great value for money. The rooms were nicely done out and clean albeit a touch on the small side. We also had an issue with a lack of hot water on the second night we stayed. Great location and a nice walk to the loch directly behind the hotel
Liam S — Google review
We had a lovely one night stay on the way up to the Highlands. We'd visited Killin before, but not stayed. We picked the Killin Hotel because of how dog friendly it is. We had a HUGE, comfortable room in the annex part, which was perfect for us. The dogs even got their own blankets, treats, and water bowl. Which I thought was a lovely touch. The only, very small, downside was the breakfast buffet/option. Some more veggie/vegan options and more fruit would be good. But, we would definitely stay again and I absolutely recommend the hotel as a very dog friendly place. Some superb walks straight from the door too. Oh and the staff were wonderful. So friendly, polite, and knowledgeable. They could not do enough for you. Lovely people 😁
Kelly R — Google review
Lovely staff, beautiful surrounds, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Accommodation is 11/10 - comfortable, spacious, clean. The reception team were friendly and very helpful. Would definitely stay here again!
Ami H — Google review
Great location next to the river. Lots of outdoor seating. The public rooms are welcoming and well fitted-out but the bedrooms are a bit tired. Dinner and breakfast were OK on quality but quite a limited menu. All the staff were welcoming and efficient.
Ross R — Google review
Whilst holidaying at a local caravan site, we called in to the Killin Hotel for a drink on our way back to our caravan after a great day out walking, and also to vet the restaurant and menu with a view to returning for a meal out. We were greeted at reception by a lady who was obviously engrossed in a task and who unfortunately turned out to be rather rude and very sarcastic to us for absolutely no reason at all, we were and always are extremely polite and friendly. We stayed for one drink, vetted the restaurant and menu and decided, mainly due to the manner of the lady at reception that we would give it a miss. Shame, they lost our custom to a far more pleasant, warm and friendly establishment located at the other end of the town. Will definitely not be returning.
Tim R — Google review
We booked the expensive room, four poster with view of river as a special treat, only to be faced with a roof in front of our window obstructing our view. The room was also directly above the Bar and the noise of people talking and laughing overnight until the sun rose the next morning meant we had little to no sleep. The only saving grace to the hotel was the food, which was excellent, and the village it was in. We will not be back. Additional: The business has since responded to my request for compensation and were very apologetic and happy to recompense some of the financial outlay. I was happy with their actions on my behalf.
Cathy — Google review
I recently had a disappointing experience at this restaurant that I feel compelled to share. Upon arrival, we were told there were available tables, so we patiently waited to be seated. However, after standing around for several minutes, a staff member approached us and rudely exclaimed, “We are busy, what are you thinking? Look around!” This kind of disrespectful behavior is unacceptable in any service industry. It left us feeling unwelcome and frustrated. While I can't comment on the food since we never got that far, the lack of professionalism and courtesy from the staff was enough to ruin our experience. I would not recommend this restaurant based on the service alone.

Restaurant
Located adjacent to the marina with a panoramic outlook of the loch, The Boathouse Kitchen and Bar offers a diverse menu influenced by Scotland's plentiful culinary options. Their dedication lies in utilizing fresh, local ingredients while ensuring that each guest receives an exceptional dining experience from the instant they arrive. This establishment serves brunch and lunch (with additional dinner on Fridays and Saturdays), predominantly featuring Italian or Scottish flavors. Additionally, there is a deck affording stunning vistas of the castle across the loch.
are here twice this week and both times was amazing . All staff were amazing also made up feel welcome made us laugh and accommodated us when we didn’t book on for the first night . will defo be back !! this was a picture of my steak which was cook to perfection
Kayleigh C — Google review
Staying at the lodges and decided to go for dinner at the Boathouse. The staff were very friendly and personable, always there when you needed but never loitering. All were very friendly with our dog and happy to fuss her. The food was incredible - first, our dog got her chicken and rice (a great portion!) before our mains arrived. The roast beef was delicious, healthy portions and all the trimmings; the seafood linguine was also a solid portion but very light and tasty. Finished off with a sticky toffee pudding - light, nicely sweet and very moreish. Shoutouts to Sarah, Lee and the chef - perfect end to this leg of our trip.
Robbie B — Google review
Fantastic meal , Lee was our main server and was great told us the specials and I couldn’t say no to the T bone steak - 10/10 one of the best steaks I have ever had! We also were served by Liam who was brilliant - later on found out it was his first night as a waiter and I would never have guessed he’s a natural and very quick with anything you needed! Also had the Scallops to Start and they are So good! Great staff Great food and a nice relaxed atmosphere!
Nic “ — Google review
We were staying at the Cruachan caravan park next door and their restaurant was shut. We phoned the Boathouse to find out if they could fit us in, it was a resounding yes. When we got there a table had been held for us - which was amazing initial service - and I cannot fault the reception our pupper received. Instead of dogs being tolerated at the Boathouse they are embraced with open arms! When we were seated our drinks orders were taken and a bowl of water for pupper arrived as well as a handful of treats. We also saw there was a dog dinner menu! For £4 our dog received chicken breasts with rice and peas just after we had been served our delicious food. I have a serious gluten intolerance and so I ordered the GF fish and chips. It was perfectly cooked and not a bone to be had. My partner had the house burger and it was gorgeous. Portion sizes were excellent value for money. In addition, the hospitality were received from staff was lovely and they were attentive throughout the evening. Cannot rate the Boathouse enough! Please give them your custom and your dogs a nutritious dinner treat!

What a great spot. We are here 3 nights in a row and everything on the menu was great. What a treat to have such a fabulous spot right where we were staying. It became our ‘regular’ very quickly. Staff were super friendly. I would highly recommend the place. We look forward to coming back. Thank you.

Stunning Sunday lunch! Everything was delicious, and I mean everything. Perfectly seasoned, and what an amazing location. Absolutely beautiful on the edge of the Loch.

Lee and Sarah were amazing, friendly staff. The food was well-priced and delicious. The scenery was amazing – a great spot for a dining experience. I would highly recommend this place; We will be back. Thanks to Lee for the banter and advice, for Steven, which makes the dining experience far more enjoyable.

We ate here twice during our 4 night stay at Loch Tay lodges. We were made to feel welcome and so were our two dogs. Dog biscuits and water were provided. The food was amazing! Fresh and tasty! Cael and his staff were extremely friendly and gave great recommendations. Will definitely return here if in area. Would definitely recommend.
