My team and I received a warm welcome when we arrived and were offered complimentary glasses of port. I, specifically, remember how lovely and accommodating Wanita (the manageress) was toward us. As for the space itself, the rooms were spotless (well done to the staff) and overlooked what I presume is the Boplaas vineyard. There's enough parking spaces available and it's secure. The place has a swimming pool that's perfect to relax next to in the late afternoon or take a dip.

Safe parking. Well positioned ,within walking distance of Boplaas and restaurants. Fabulous hostess, we wanted for nothing.

Great accommodation with very comfortable place to stay. The most friendly staff and managers. Great sevice and rooms are nice and is a nice quite spot with beautiful views. Great taste of food and wine. Beautiful vineyards and swimming pool.. It is also a historical building and have been up and running since 1900's.

The Queen's Hotel of Calitzdorp certainly lives up to its reputation, the hotel has been renovated for the better, new rooms have on-suites. After tasting wine in the nearby vineyards enjoy a refreshing swim or feast on more food. This Hotel is easy to find simply turn into Queen street and drive past the Police Station.

Good clean rooms but we had unfortunately no view. Great breakfast. Safe parking. Walking distance from vineyards.

This place needs 11stars..friendly receptionist we had a refreshing swim..the room we were in was luxurious..you feel relaxed when you enter the place because the gardens are stunning and the room is tranquil and the 2 ladies at breakfast entertaining and knowledgeable about the area and breakfast was delicious..we will definitely be back

Spotless and clean, really a memorable stay. Friendly staff and very well priced. Save parking and excellent breakfast.

We waited 2 hours for our food. Only a few patrons in the restaurant. It was cold there. Bright lights. No atmosphere, no music. Just yelling from the guys playing darts. When our food, came at last, it was cold! We told the owner and he just shrugged and said they let it stand too long on the marble tops and plates are cold in winter......Oh duh....! And....?! They never came back to offer dessert or coffee. The waitress looked pissed when she removed our plates! My husband wanted another drink, but no one available to serve him. Then my husband had to go and search for the staff to give us our bill and to pay! That took anther 20 minutes and we were cold! No discount offered for our cold food. We have been here before, a few years ago and liked the restaurant. Not anymore. Sorry to say! And then we saw this morning that we were charged for a second beer we did not order!

The seafood curry is the best I've had, by far. The poor waitress was good at her job and very friendly, but obviously stressed by the long time we had to wait for our food. The wine list is very limited.

Lovely Portuguese restaurant. The anti pasto is a visual and tasting delight, among the best I've had around the globe. Can highly recommend the espetada super friendly hosts and staff added to the great experience

I was very impressed by the quality, friendliness and service. The food was delicious, my burger was juicy and perfectly cooked and the chicken schnitzel looked delicious. The waitress was on the ball, friendly and very helpful. I was also pleasantly surprised by the prices and would definitely recommend you stop by; If you're in the area, I can't see any reason not to.

You always find the most unexpected surprises when you venture off the beaten track! This is a typical small-town restaurant: unpretentious, lots of regulars, warm and super-friendly owners, a resident bistro cat and some wholesome food that's cooked with real love. The homemade pasta is superb, and the fish was cooked beautifully. Well worth a visit.

Zamani seemed like it would be a highlight in Calitzdorp, especially after reading about the owners’ passion and seeing its charming setup. Being the only spot open today, I was excited to give it a try. Sadly, it didn’t live up to expectations. The atmosphere started strong with great music, but that’s where the magic ended. The service was chaotic, with staff clearly overwhelmed and inattentive. It took 45 minutes and a trip to the kitchen just to place our order, and another 90 minutes for the food to arrive. As someone in the customer service industry, I understand how challenging things can get and hate leaving critical reviews, but this level of disorganization felt inexcusable for what was promised on the front of the menu. The food? Not bad, but absolutely not worth the wait. The hope of making food to bring back even the hardiest of men was not achieved today. Given the hype about Calitzdorp being a must-visit, Zamani was part of a massive letdown. If this what the town is like in peak season, it’s no wonder everyones left. For the owner, who seems to take criticism quite personally based on responses to other reviews: Yes, we did use the “service bamboo” system as instructed. Despite this, we still had to walk to the kitchen to place our order and to pay the bill. Speaking to the manager wasn’t an option when basic service was already non-existent and as mentioned the staff seemed overwhelmed. This review reflects my experience, which I have every right to share. If the restaurant’s goal is to treat guests like adults, perhaps it’s time to do the same when addressing constructive criticism.

Great food, nice atmosphere for sure a restaurant that should be for sure at 4,8! Go to the backyard which has an awesome vibe!

We had a fantastic weekend at Zamani Grill! Congratulations to Gielie on reaching 100 continuous hours of braaiing to break the Guinness World Record for the longest braai – what an incredible achievement! Now we just wait for the verdict to confirm that all the T’s were crossed and the i’s dotted. A special mention to Annelize and the entire Zamani team – although understandably tired, they showed true commitment and stood proudly behind their leader. The food was excellent, the atmosphere unforgettable, and the spirit of the place made it something very special. Thank you, Gielie, Annelize and team – you created a weekend to remember!

Definitely a must. When on Route 62 make sure to stop at Zamani grill where you can find the smallest bar on Route 62. Have a drink and some of their delicious food. Enjoy the atmosphere and hospitality!

A very unique setup. Even though the bar is small, the eating areas are unique and people assisting us are friendly. Worth going and prices are reasonable.

Lovely spot with a lovely little bar. Literally the smallest bar on the R62. We drank Milkshakes out of ostrich eggs, had pizza and epic karoo lamb with a uniquely sweet BBQ sauce. Usually I dont prefer BBQ sauce but this was lekker.

At R165 for a raw pizza...totally rip-off. Come to cape Town so we can teach u how to make pizza. It was literally a piece of raw dough with toppings urgh stay away!

Great service, fabulous food and just a ridiculously good cake to round off lunch. We were a group of 14 adventure bikers, we were warmly welcomed and accommodated. Everyone left with full bellies and big smiles.

A great home-from-home experience that I thoroughly enjoyed; and what-a-breakfast! I loved being directly across the road from the (I presume) Groot Kerk and its chiming and eccentric clock every fifteen minutes.

Quaint cafe with porch seating so you can watch the world go by. The best vegetarian selection in town, the vegan wrap wasn’t on the menu but it was amazing!

We and our friends had a lovely breakfast at Die Dorpshuis. We have been visiting there for many years. It is under new management and the new owners are very friendly and the breakfast was delicious. Can definitely recommend to visit Die Dorpshuis.

Stunning views from here. It was a cold August afternoon and hardly any visitors so we had the restaurant to ourselves. We were given some blankets to keep warm. I just missed the coziness of a fireplace. Vetkoek & mince was good and the chicken wings were also good. We didn't do any wine tasting so cannot comment on the wines. Friendly staff.

The tasting is actually not a must. The one we experienced just confirmed the quality they produced. The red wines, as this is our acquired taste, are exceptional. The taste of the Tinto, Pinotage and Shiraz are just superb. If you are a red wine fan, you should visit this cellar. 10 out of 10 for the winemaker. Keep up the quality. Pitty that the sales persons has not the technical background to answer some questions .

The wine is very well priced but food was shockingly expensive and just poor quality and tasteless. Snails had no garlic or butter as per description and the cheese platter is very small for the price really.... Just not worth it for the price.

When you arrive and enter at the wine farm you immediately notice that the estate is aesthetically pleasing. The wine tasting was good. Afterwards we had a lovely lunch on the deck which has an amazing view. I highly recommend this place.

The BEST Milk Tart I have EVER eaten. Beautiful food, excellent coffee, great view. Friendly, enthusiastic and passionate staff and chef. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

A place that has stunning views, sit in or outside with friendly professional service, their food is presented on a blackboard menu and is affordable for most. The restaurant has a shop inside filled with local produce like jams and wine from the nearby farmers. I would highly recommend this place.

So great to see that Yuriette has set up her business after last seeing her at the Richmond Karoo padstal in 2020 . Together with her Landlord Axe Hill Winery owner she has even more plans. This is definitely worth a stop whether it’s breakfast, brunch , lunch or just a drink and one of the delectable sweet treats baked by Yuriette’s Mum

Went there on the advice of owner of b and b (it was one of few open on Monday). The pizzas were great (try the aubergine, sundried tomato, olives, capers and parmesan. Also we're able to buy axe Hill wines there. Nice setting

Enjoyed my French toast with bacon & berries. Unfortunately landed there in a group of 6 when the power kept on tripping. Couldn't get cappucino which is understandable, but suggest the owner keeps a few sachets of premix cappucino for emergency, or at least grounded coffee for plunger coffee, as water can be boiled on a gas appliance. Waiting for an extra 15 minutes to get my breakfast, whilst the other 5 pax ate and finished their breakfast left a bitter taste, more so as 1 person had a bacon and egg breakfast.

Great spot to stop off for a bite to eat. Right on the main road but feels rural. Lovely views. I had the most delicious omelette and a cup of Truth coffee. What more could you want.

Restaurant close to where we stayed and was open for dinner. The food was very good. A foodies must visit. We had pizzas and daughter had a very tasty chickpea and Veg curry. Service Also very attentitive. Bought some dried apricots, artisan bread as well as a homemade rose geranium cordial.

What a wonderful gem of a place to find. A great host who is waiter and chef. For a one man show quick service. Browse at a selection of second hand books while you wait for your meal. The setting is beautifully arranged and as the name implies is in the gentle shade of Pepper Trees. The table is set with a linen table cloth and napkins, which is an unusual luxury these days. The food was delicious. A great time and lunch was had. Highly recommended. Note: drinks are not served so bring your own.

Eating a perfect Asian meal comprising of the best dumplings and Korean fried chicken I ever head in a unique local off the grid restaurant in South Africa, feeling as if Gary had us over in his house for lunch, was the most positively unexpected experience so far for our South Africa trip. When you are having so much fun that you forget to take photos, you know you have stumbled upon something special! Lunch at Under the Pepper Tree was an unforgettable and an amazing experience. It is a charming pop-up restaurant, open from Thursdays to Saturdays. Each week, there is a surprise menu, posted on social media. The seating is on a lovely Karoo stoep, which is pet friendly. The chef/owner visits with and serves his own guests. The food is absolutely divine. It truly deserves a spot in an upmarket culinary restaurant! The bring-your-own drinks (Calitzdorp has the best wineries)- policy added to the relaxed, homely and casual vibe. If you're looking for a mindful and enjoyable dining experience, Under the Pepper Tree is just magical.

I have enjoyed every meal I have eaten here, and I have eaten many. Chef Gary is a whizz at preparing subtly flavoured oriental dishes. BYO.

On the Wesoewer Road. You will find this hidden gem on the left before you get to Hylton Nel's pottery studio and Axe Hill Winery's cellar. Chef Patron Gary always has a curry on the go complemented by Andrew's delicious naans and flatbreads. Bring your own wine as they are unlicensed and browse the extensive range of books while you wait. Open for lunch and teas Wednesday to Saturday.

What an absolute unpleasant experience!!! Out of table of 10, only 7 got food…. 3 of our guests had to wait more than half a hour for their food…. Meat over cooked, not as ordered. Had to ask 3 times on what the hold up was on food…. The table that came in much later got served the same food as we had waiting for…. Even ordering drinks got messed up…. At the end of the day we end up only ordering once… it took ages to get something to drink….. 1 coffee to 25min…. The Chef/owner had a very rude manner when we raised our concerns …. Let me add…. We sat through this whole ordeal, not making a seen within the restaurant….we have even paid the levy that was added on the bill…. Only for him to tell us, they had a problem with the waiter for a while now. NOT saying sorry, NOT trying to salvage this situation…. Just being an arrogant man not caring about hos customers.

You know … when a host walks up to you with insect repellent because you’re sitting outside in short pants and he knows there are mosquitoes… you got to give 5 Stars for service! Solid food, good service, fun atmosphere.

My ostrich had all the juice and joy cooked out of it. Very agro chef. Most unpleasant experience. Six people out of our table of 8 had legitimate complaints but all fell on deaf ears. Much safer to not complain.... or safer still just stay away from Salie grill house and pizzeria.

We had dinner here on recommendation of the owners of Calitzdorp countryhouse. It was during loadshedding so very romantic ;-) The food was great! The ostrichpate was so delicious! And the lamb chops were great. With some local wine it was a great evening!

Definitely a MUST STOP for something to eat in Calitzdorp. The food was great, well prepared and very tasty. Definitely worth every cent and it didn't break the bank. Great friendly service was surely a big plus too. This chicken schnitzel was great!!!

There are better options in town. Not good value for money and we got the idea that the staff aren’t paid salaries as the service fee is a mandatory 15% and to add insult to injury, they charge for tap water and ice.

We stopped for their famous, moist chocolate cake. It did not disappoint. They welcomed Didi, our Bostie, too. The coffee milkshake is out of this world. I didn't get the tea I asked for, but that is forgiven.

This is a true oasis in Calitzdorp, beautiful lush garden with a swimming pool. Friendly staff and ice old beer. The collection of handcrafted pipes made by the owner for the connoisseur. This is a must stop!

Tuinateljee is straight out of a storybook! It’s part art gallery, part nursery, part restaurant, part curio shop – and somehow still finds space for sweet treats. Every little corner hides a surprise, like a treasure hunt for the senses. The outside area? Simply wow – lush, dreamy, and absolutely Instagram-worthy. We didn’t stop for lunch this time (silly us!), but next time we roll through Calitzdorp, you’ll definitely find us feasting under the trees.

An unexpected treasure trove for a weary traveller's. Great nursery and gift warehouse, wonderful mixture of seating arrangements indoor or out. A great selection of pots too.

Beautiful melange of plants and sculptures to wander through while waiting for delicious food. A wonderful place to visit with the tinkling water features giving an air of serenity.

This is a gem in the Karoo that one actually wants to keep a secret. The menu is only made known on the Friday morning and the pop-up restaurant is only open over weekends. Book before the time, we had to wait two weeks for this special treat. Bring your own wine. From the outside it looked like a normal living house and Pieter Erasmus will invite you into his lovely garden and veranda. Soft Indian music is heard from the kitchen. From the starter to the final course, it is a taste explosion and a divine experience. Your host explains all the ingredients and some history behind dishes. This is definitely a worthwhile treat. It feels like visiting a good friend who is an Indian food connoisseur. This little gem can compete with any of the bigger restaurants - but none of the bigger restaurants will give you this intimacy.

Food very tasty and, owner/chef/waiter Peter, is the perfect host. First time patron but, definitely not my last. Thanks for an intimate and authentic Indian cuisine experience. See you in the near future.

The Kombuis was such an amazing find, discovered down a little road in the heart of (not so) sleepy Calitzdorp. As we walked in it was if we were transported into another world with the beautiful garden and romantic, almost magical lighting. The food was cooked and served by world-renowned jewelry designer Pieter Erasmus who presented each dish with love and care, they were all truly unique and delicious. We also got to spend a few moments chatting to Pieter, and with great food and great company, the whole experience is something I'll not soon forget. I definitely recommend looking The Kombuis up on Instagram or Facebook and booking a table when you are in the area.

Spending an afternoon in the secret garden with plenty of water and incredible Indian food was the highlight of our trip to Calitzdorp. Order the pakora! What a gem this place is.

A welcome stop on the main road in the lovely Calitzdorp, with hot coffee and a delicious breakfast, fire in the fireplace, very friendly staff, beautiful setting and great music.

My wife and I visited this restaurant as we drove thru the town. They serve very nice salads, we also enjoyed some nice custard slices there. Friendly and helpful staff. Well done Cafe @ The Rose..!!

Cafe @ The Rose was recommended to us, as we were looking for a second hand reading book. What a lovely gem. A coffee shop stocked with olives, olive oil, baked goods, coffee and gifts. They have a beautifully decorated back garden, which has been set up to seat dining-in guests, however it is perfect for hosting any type of celebration. I love Pastei De Nata, though I can't say that it is made the authentic way, what I can say is that it was one of the most delicious Pastei De Natas that I have ever had. They even stock some of the Babylonstoren products.

Had the worst experience yesterday at this Restaurant (and it wasn't even Open!). After hours of driving my husband, myself and our two children where desperately looking for a place to have coffee and something sweet at - the road to CT was long and it was hard to stay awake, children were cranky, and and. GPS took us to this little gem turned charcoal. We saw an 'open' sign somewhere close to the door, (apparently it's suppose to be on) but after we have established that the place is indeed closed we proceeded to get back into the car. Just as I was about to get in, a blond woman stormed out of the establishment, livid for some reason. I didn't notice at first though and I thought 'Ah, there's people. Maybe they're open. Let's ask.' Me: "Hi there. Is the restaurant open; may we...?" BIG MISTAKE (please do not ask the blond woman at this place if the place is open!) With a distorted face she looked at us, threw her hards up pointing to the restaurant: "DOES THE PLACE LOOK OPEN TO YOU??!!!! HA?!" I'm stunned but I'm sure I've heard wrong. I looked at her harder. Maybe I've got her body language wrong... "Excuse me?" The sign says....' But no. The woman is seriously and deeply livid at this random woman and her family wanting to know if the place is open. She repeats her answer: "I SAID DOES IT LOOK OPEN TO YOU! The sign must BE ON!" At this point I have lost my cool and I let her know that she's utterly rude and that she will have my Google review. She lifted up her hand as I jumped back into the car, but I can't confirm that she was indeed showing the F-you sign, i got into my car too fast. By her attitude it may very well have been. Exactly What about my family upset this woman, I don't know, but I'm suspecting it's something we cannot change.... This lady, whom I assume, is in charge of this establishment should be ashamed of herself. You do not treat people the way you did. You have managed to spoil our Whole Route 62 experience. Thank you. Easily the only real restaurant in Calitzdorp. A stunning menu served in a historic building with fabulous artifacts and old world local products. The only place in town that serve a proper toasted sandwich and lime milkshake. The pear and blue cheese salad is to die for. Gaye has gotten it all right!

Lovely place for lunch or breakfast. Good service and great food. The scones were absolutely perfect. We always stop here when we travel through Calizdorp.

Quite a dissapointing experience. Had to pay for using my charger of my laptop. Staff was friendly but they passed on the message of the boss that I had to pay for it. If that is how you treat your guests, you have a lot to learn a lot

We loved our two night stay here as a family and can highly recommend their dinners which are complimented by a fabulous local wine list. The hosting was warm and friendly and the location perfect. It was nice to feel out in the countryside but only a 5 minute drive into town. Our walk around the town was most enjoyable thanks to the information in the guest folders.

What a view! Lovely setting, Andrew and Nell Rogers made us feel very welcome. Rooms clean, neat and comfortable. Dont forget to try Nell's homemade Lasagna. You won't regret it. Well worth a stopover on your trip through the Garden Route and Klein Karoo

I just want to go back to Calitzdorp. What a beautiful venue and home. The family works together - Andrew, wife Nell, and son David. One can actually see that they like each other; it's a home of peace. And Nell can cook! Oh my living! Ostrich stroganoff - best ostrich I have ever eaten. (My mushrooms are better though ;)). (Has David and his wife had their baby yet? Hope all goes well!

On Tuesday 22 March two long-standing friends, Dr Ken Esterhuizen and Dr James Elias, stayed over the night at this outstanding lodge. Andrew and Nell served as relaxed and efficient hosts ,making themselves constantly available to the guests that night. The food and wine were excellent, the conversation funny and stimulating, the room setting delightful and restful (and spotlessly clean!). The one problem was that as we had "booked ahead" we were not able to stay a further night or two. From our side - highly commendable !

A sleep over at Calitzdorp Country House is a must. Friendly owners. The hosts Nell and Andrew makes one feel welcome. Beautiful setting with vineyards in the foreground. Enjoyed meeting the Great Dane Dutchess and Staffie-X, Donatello. This Country House has beautiful furniture. Bedrooms with bathroom on suite are large and well equipped. Lovely gardens and a pool area. Enjoyed the birdlife.

This is a very special boutique country hotel. Personal service from the owners Andrew and Nel is delightful. Lovely food and service. The rooms are traditional, beautifully appointed and immaculate as are the public rooms. As for the views- gorgeous! A most delightful stay.

We travelled in South Africa for two weeks in October 2021, and our favourite stay was at Calitzdorp Country House. Nell and Andrew were wonderfully friendly and considerate, and our dinner was absolutely delicious. I strongly recommend.

Our family of 4 had a lovely stay here, we were just overnighting. It was clean, very comfortable and attention was given to small details . Everything one would need was supplied. Drinking water, Coffee, tea, milk and rusks were supplied. It was lovely and private with our own little succulent garden. Would highly recommend this place to stay.

I was booked for 4 nights but stayed for a further 2 nights. I was just só comfortable. Enjoyed it só much.!! The crispy clean bedding is of high quality. The Unit is very spacious and well equipped. I could easily come and stay permanently. Even doggy biscuits for Bella. She was in 7th heaven in our own large private garden. I can"t wait to make my next booking. Shirley & Roger are well known and highly recommended in town. Perfect hosts. Available should you need them but never intruded in my stay.

Love the light green color scheme. It felt calm, crisp and comforting. As coffee snobs, we were so delighted to see the plunger & filter coffee. Enjoyed the garden even in the light rain. So tidy and clean.

Such a nice cosy and neat house. The guest is super friendly and accommodating. We arrived late and she was available and welcoming and went out of her way to ensure we find our way. Everything we needed was there. Highly recommend this if you ever visit this beautiful little town

Atmosphere and position great. Best of them there. Wines are personal tastes, but for everyone something. Restaurant nicely situated under vines. They have to prepare a better dough for roosterkoek - tough and not eatible. Even the knife could not cut it

Good wine tasting venue. The restaurant is separate and has a very good menu.

Great experience in the tasting room. Heletje is a friendly and knowledgeable host. Lovely restaurant setting under the vines. Below par lunch experience. Service in the restaurant was slow and disappointing. The battered hake was bland and tasteless. The Authentic Falafel was served still solidly frozen. This was an unremarkable lunch.

Very beautiful and calm place between the grape yards and under them. Service was excellent from the waiter. Food did took a bit long to be served, but the wait was worth it.

Great breakfast followed by a wine tasting. Really good wines at a reasonable price. One of my favourites was the De Krans Muscat Blanc. Highly recommended for a visit.

Award-winning port wines, friendly host, free tasting, lots of other wine varieties and good prices. Now also has a small restaurant overlooking vineyards. Seating available inside or outside. Short menu with tasty food served in generous portions at reasonable prices. Friendly table waiting. The indoor seating has air conditioning which is recommended for hot Summer days.

We were pleasantly surprised when we stopped in Calitzdorp for lunch. The very first place we spotted was Giovanni's and as both my husband and I love Italian food, we decided to lunch there. Beautiful views of the farm and dams while we dined on delicious, authentic Italian cuisine. My husband opted for a pizza while I chose a pasta and both were to die for. The hosts were so friendly and Giovanni himself came to check that the meal was to our satisfaction. Definitely worth the stop and definitely make it a leisurely one.

Easy to find. Welcome friendly Wendy makes the moment feel perfect. Personal service and care. Great a 🍾 of local vino or three, all Carlitzdorp wines are great. Food is up there with the best. Pizza we choose Chilled afternoon on the veranda just soaking up the atmosphere. Great value and joy. Dogs are allowed if well behaved. Thank you. Ciao. Paul

We were here with the kids and had a phantastic pizza (margherita). Fresh dough, crusty and fluffy, fresh tomatoes and Herbs on top. The view was stunning! Staff very friendly. Also beautiful garden and they had a trampolin for the kids.

If you want to experience the true taste of Italy 🇮🇹 this is where you need to be, if you think you've tasted the best pizza well you have not tried Giovanni's. Set amongst mountain ranges in the Klein Karoo with views that you only find in magazines coupled with great food and excellent service. Do yourself a favor and give Giovanni's a try you will not be sorry

Excellent food! The best Italian I had ever. A must visit when visiting or driving through Calitzdorp. Will most definitely see me and my friends again. Thank you for a great experience.

A small, unassuming and friendly place on the outskirts of Calitzdorp. Stopped here for takeaways on a road trip (which we've been tempted to do before but always miss opening hours). Since we didn't dine in, I can't comment on the full menu but the pizzas were delicious and we could wait outside on the deck with an amazing view of the mountains behind Calitzdorp. Opening hours are until 4pm but you can phone ahead for takeaways until 6pm, which is great to know. Delightful receptionist who greeted us and took our order. Highly recommended.

We were here in September, great food, we had a succulent ostrich stake.

This lovely family song stole my heart! The big bird breakfast (aka ostrich) is awesome! You feel like family when you leave.

The place is not very good marked but totally worth it. We arrived and their dog Spooky came to welcome us, the food was amazing, we ordered three different plates (chicken, guts and lamb) with some local beers. Our friend was a bit sick since morning and they cared giving us some pills and fruit. They were super nice and helped a lot.
