I have been for a wine tasting previously and it was amazing. This is my most favourite wine in the World ❤️❤️❤️. I have recently joined their Members Club and what an incredible surprise. In addition to 6 bottles of wine, I received their Olive Oil ( in a wine bottle ❤️) with Olives and Peach Atcha sauce. Don't leave the Estate without purchasing a bottle of Thunderchild, 100% of the grapes for this blend are grown on the orphanage’s grounds and 100% of the profit is donated to the children. The estate accommodated us for a wine cellar tour, and it was the best part of the whole day. They have wonderful wine and we bought a few bottles to take home. Wine tasting can be enjoyed on the grass with deck chairs. Tastings are generous. Their Life from stone is the most famous wine. The same family run the estate for generations.

Not to long ago, wine tasting in this valley was free. It changed and I understand this. I have been to Springfield several times in the past and I have never been disappointed. I will always recommend them as a great option. Until today. I state again, I don’t mind paying for a wine tasting but today: the wines were served, glasses plonked before us. Not a single word about the wine was said, no introduction to the farm or anything! After we have tasted the 5 wines and were almost leaving, a lady doing the tastings come to our table and asked how far we were with our tasting. Since we were done, she did not say anything . No apology for not showing up, she did not even try to make up by telling us about the farm… no effort. Although I have been there before, for 4 of our party, it were their first time visit and they will surely not bring their friends here. On a Saturday in summer, surely you need more than one person to do the tastings ? It’s a pity. Such a beautiful place and great wines. But I doubt that I will be back for a visit. Rather order online and visit some of the other farms where we had lovely tastings, like Rietvallei and Zandvliet

Interestingly they not part of platters, but theres wines do not disappoint! The whites are notoriously special. I would also check out their reds. The thunder rock wine is also special as they allocate proceeds to the children’s home. PS: Complimentary 🫒 olives are amazing!

My Husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the Golden Mile Safari. Andy was very helpful and accommodating and we definitely recommend this experience. Viljoensdrift was fun and the boat cruise was a bonus! Van Loveren is so quiet and serene and the gardens are beautiful. Zandvliet cellars was interesting and lunch at Four Cousins was fantastic! We had and awesome experience, Thank you!

This tourism information office is one of the best I have come across. The team of people are enthusiastic and professional.

Stellenbosch and Franschoek are popular due to their proximity to Cape Town - and their prices a tend to cater for wealthier international tourists. Robertson wine route is far enough away to keep the crowds out, prices affordable and generally the outlets are more friendly and engaging. Best to make a weekend out of it - so many gems to mention.

Robertson area wines are getting really good and must be the best value-for-money wine region in SA, and is also not as busy as wine regions futher South which makes exploring more pleasant. Recommend.

Big open spaces, modern feel, large restaurant with seating inside and out. Separate wine tasting area. Ample shaded parking close to the entrance. Bathrooms clean and stylish. Menu offers a large variety of interesting dishes and food combinations. Food arrives within minutes of ordering and looks and tastes yummy. Prices reasonable. Overall feel of modern stylish appetizing dining. Will definitely return to try out something else on the menu.

We went there for Mother's Day lunch. It was lovely for the most part (there was an issue with our booking and desserts were not very good). Service was good and we did not wait long for the food even though they appeared to be fully booked.

This was quite honestly THE best breakfast I've ever had! We will definitely be stopping here every time we pass through the area. For the first time ever, the chef served me egg yolks only (allergic to the whites) and it was amazing to be able to enjoy my entire plate of food without having to cut away the bits that I can't eat... So accommodating!!! Our server was friendly with a good sense of humor and very obliging. Gorgeous setting with modern, spotless seating both inside and out (we opted to sit outside in the smoking area), while still maintaining a somewhat down-to-earth atmosphere. Im rating the food 3* only because of the portions. Kiddies' meals are way too small. They are toddler size portions. The taste is amazing, though. Adult portions were great, tasty, and very filling.

Great venue to have lunch and a Beer or Wine if you're in Robertson. Very nice decor and has a comfy fire place to sit next to on those cold rainy days.

What a fine dining experience I’ve had here.Simply perfection ,service ,food ,atmosphere ,a 10 out of 10. It’s a beautiful restaurant and the food and service matches the aesthetics .Highly recommend

Lovely little oasis in Robertson. The restaurant served up quality food at affordable prices. The parrot at the entrance who greets the patroms is gorgeous. There is a beautiful play area with a jungle gym and trampoline (with netting) next to the duck pond to keep the children happy and entertained. My only worry is the croc enclosure. The children enjoyed looking at the monkeys and kid goats.

A little sanctuary built around a house, this is a wonderful visit for the whole family. There are a few animals here not just birds. It is a small venue so the movement through the place can be tricky with lots of people. There are 2 parking lots, but they can fill up quickly. The only issue was the name tags for the birds. Some were non existent. It is somewhat wheelchair accessible, but there are parts where it’s a bit too tight to fit a chair.

Park your car and enjoy the walk with the kiddies at the play area between the animals. You only pay if you enter the area where the birds area. Nice sit-down area inside or outside.

Yet another day out with the family and what a winner, winner chicken dinner😁 Great things to see and experience from all the amaxing and incredible birds and parats to crocodiles and zebras. Lots of nature and fresh air around. They serve food and we had some milkshakes aswell as the steak, salid and chips which was really delicious. Definitely recommend for a family day out. Prices for entry and food was really very fair with entry fee of R50 per adult in December 2024. Go and see for yourselves. Yet another Robertson beauty.

Past visit was my third. Each time it has been better with more features added. It really is a great place to take children to see domestic animals, crocodiles and all kinds of feathered friends. The cost firewarmed restuarant is a must to visit too. You will find it difficult to select a slice of cake though, such is the scrumptious range.q

Oh my word! What a beautiful, neat, clean smelling- yes, even though it's a place for birds etc. Absolutely stunning, an excellent spot for kids with the - once again, neat and clean playground. I was in absolute awe, never knew about this place so discreetly tucked away in Robertson. There's a restaurant, you may have your meal inside or at the tables in the playground while supervising your kids. Please do go it's stunning. Staff are well mannered and friendly. 😇 No tickets there's a minimal entrance fee.

Beautiful place. Just had a quick stop and walk about so I can't comment on the food or wine but definitely a lovely atmosphere. Will stop there again, this time spend a little longer and experience more

What an amazing experience I’ve had here, after doing a couple of wine tastings around Cape-town ,the wine tasting experience here was really different .It was not just about the wine but knowing the story behind the wines made me feel like I’m part of the family.The whole place is a beautiful story .From the drive going there ,I learnt that all the vines fenced with red flowers belong to the winery ,you get excited on the road before you even reach the winery.

This is great for families. Great setting with lush greenery and proud family heritage used in the tasting room and restaurant. Fantastic wine selection. A must visit.

I’m not one to write a negative review, but after being blown away by Nuy Estate yesterday, the lack lustre approach to a wine tasting experience at Van Loveren left more than the taste of tannin in the mouth. Positive: We were 3 attending on a quiet Monday and each opted for a wine/food paring option. The pairings were good, the wines were mostly enjoyable and as not much of a Chardonnay fan I can highly recommend the Christina’s Chardonnay - a pleasant woodie Chardonnay. Now - the negatives: it costs nothing to be nice and make people feel welcome. A very basic greeting was followed by no clear guidelines or suggestions. We knew we wanted to do a food and wine pairing tasting - so after picking a place to sit, we were presented with a menu. No discussion, suggestions or interaction. Shortly after our wine was brought all On one black tray, placed in front of us with no clear indication what we were having till we asked in what order. No information or anything forthcoming. After another 5 minutes our small tray of food pairing arrived - no napkins. No discussion or any interaction again. When we asked for a napkin, we were presented with plastic wrapped “scented dry wipes”. Firstly - sustainability? Secondly - the smell from a scented wipe during wine tasting? Upon paying - nada, nothing until I actually sarcastically said “thank you for asking , our time here was fine”. The sarcasm was lost. P.s. no soap in ladies… This probably would have warranted a three star review, but when on extended travel through SA, and having been so surprised by a lesser known in my experience like Nuy, you’d expect much better and higher standards of customer care from an “old and established” high end “perceived” estate like Van Loveren. I hope this will assist you in inspiring your staff to be brave, free and welcoming in the future - especially during quiet winter months Even “fake enthusiasm” is better than a luke warm breeze.

So much to do, wine tasting which was very good on the deck under the trees or buy a picnic and lounge on the grass next to the river, or possibly stock up with your favorites and float down the river on the barge. Lovely way to spend a lazy day.

Great wine, lovely atmosphere. Great prices on both the wine tasting and their food. Don't know if it's always like this since we went there shortly after heavy rain- but the river was dirty and didn't smell too pleasant . But the restaurant was amazing with live music.

The river cruise was magical! I loved the picnic boxes you can use from the deli!

Amazing experience, we did the boat ride, was a cold day, however we were given blankets which was nice of them to offer.

My wife and I were at this restaurant on our anniversary. I wanted a restaurant with a great view and picked this spot. To our disappointment the manager, German accent guy, was having a verbal altercation with one of the staff members right in front of us. That not being bad enough, German accent guy was drinking his red wine from the bottle while doing this. Not only is this sad to see as a fellow human being, feeling for another, but also is it very unprofessional behaviour from a person in a position of power in front of customers. Absolutely disgraceful. We ended up cancelling our order and left. Can't sit there pretending to have a lovely anniversary lunch with my wife, while all of this is happening. Hope this review helps management act accordingly.

We arrived here for a single night layover and were greatly disappointed. *note: most of the other reviews are just about the restaurant and not about the hotel itself. • Accommodation: The rooms are old and definitely not what I expected from a luxury hotel. The bathrooms had been renovated but still not up to a luxury standard that I would’ve expected for the insane price they charge. Upon arrival we also noticed that our bedsheets were dirty and our airco was leaking, leaving a puddle of water on the ground. We alerted the staff and they replaced the beddings but told us that the airco leaking was normal and we should put a rug beneath it (the owner later apologised and compensated us with a bottle of wine). For wifi we each received redeemable coupons.. 2 coupons per person that could be used for a single day, with a limit of 500mb. You go to a luxury hotel and receive redeemable coupons for wifi, how greedy. The rooms were very disappointing to say the least… • Amenities: There is a small pool with cloudy water and some pool chairs but that’s about it. As for the vineyard itself.. it would be an overstatement to call it one. It’s just a couple of short rows and its “walking route” takes like 5-10 minutes. • Food: The food itself was great as you can see from the other reviews but everything around it was not. We weren’t provided with a menu (they forgot to print it out apparently), so we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into (price wise). We had a couple of menu options which the waiter recited from a piece of paper and we had to make a choice on the spot. The food was tasty, the only complaint was that I asked my meat to be cooked medium and it was close to being fully well done (*note my phone camera, in the attached pictures, makes the meat look a lot more pink than it actually was). The big problem came the day after during checkout. R2700 for a 2 course dinner, very overpriced, they charged R400 for Beef Fillet and R40 for a bottle of water. • Conclusion: If you decide to stay here you’ll definitely be dissatisfied. The rooms are heavily overpriced, the food is heavily overpriced, the owner is really greedy and the service is mediocre at best. We will not be returning here.

Not a bad place, cosy atmosphere with a unique location. The food was good but certainly too expensive. We paid R40 for a bottle of sparkling water (500ml) - we never saw prices on that prior. We got 3 courses and some of it enjoyable, some of it could be improved. Based on the price one does get fine dining, but the food needs a bit of an update if it's to challenge restaurants in a similar price bracket.

A nice place on the edge of a mountain. Delicious between the vineyards. A nice view or relax in the sun. Nice reception and a nice tour. It really appeals to me that it is small-scale. The wines and food were delicious. The rooms were really beautiful.

Fraai Uitzicht is like a piece of Paradise on earth! Beautiful location, gardens and accommodation. The food is excellent and a joy to see how it is presented on your dish and at dinner time you can watch the impressive sunset while eating outside! They harvest and bottle their own good tasting wine what was also special to me! Hope to visit again!

Great place to stay along R60. It is a working vineyard with fine dining attached. Look out for weekend specials where they put together a package of game drive, cactus garden and a tasting menu which is extraordinarily good. Match the exquisite food with local wines.

Had a last minute idea to visit before our departure. They were fully booked but squeezed us in, very accommodating! Amazing bubbly!! Venue is not necessarily great for pets as it’s inside, but the doggos were happy and staff/guests enjoyed their presence.

What a beautiful place. The Cap Classique tasting was delicious and paired with a smoked salmon platter it was the breakfast of kings. The Estate is definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful wine estate and a fantastic tasting experience. We live in Europe and try to make the effort to come once a year because of the great setting and of course the delicious bubbles.

I mean who can say no to sparkling wine… Tastes amazing and Ofcourse one has to be buzzing after the tasting to know that it was worth it… it’s just an 1 hour and 45 mins drive from capetown but it is worth it. Staff is amazing and friendly. Surely enjoyed my wine tasting. Will surely come back

Yoh. Just skip this one. Dreary aesthetic, Woolies charcuterie, lax service... Then you order the 'Deluxe' tasting option & 2 of the wines you get to taste are the same 2 you've bought dozens of times at Checkers (Brut & Brut Rosé). Drive past, you're in wine country anyway.

Had a lovely tasting with Ashley and tried some really impressive Chardonnay. She was super knowledgeable on the wines and enthusiastic about the history of the farm. The tasting itself was lovely and the setting was beautiful. Baby/ kid friendly too. Definitely stop at this farm if you’re in the area! Absolutely beautiful.

Excellent wines. The hostess is very knowledgeable about the wines and history of the estate and made me feel very welcome. This is one of only a handful of tastings in this wine region where the tasting was proper and not just a case of the wine being poured with no information shared. The other wineries can sure take a leaf out of De Wetshof's book about how a hospitable tasting should be done.

This was a wine tasting unlike any other. Ashley Carolus is so knowledgable about the history of the farm and all the wines we tasted. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and also the fact that the staff went out of their way to accommodate us even we showed up close to closing time. I would definitely recommend that anyone visiting Robertson for wine tasting stops at De Wetshof Wine Estate for amazing service and impeccable wines.

Stopped in for a wine tasting on Dec 27th, staff were very attentive and helpful. The view from upstairs over the vineyards, is beautiful. The rose (Frankly my dear) was very good.

Wines were nice but not a great overall experience. Service was slow despite being the only people in the restaurant. Food was fine but not great. Ordered a sandwich that said it came with fries but when the fries didn’t arrive and we asked they said it doesn’t. False/confusing advertising. We ordered a kids meal that said it came with an activity. This never arrived. The staff were friendly

Lovely setting overlooking the vines, and the downstairs outside space was particularly relaxed and pleasant. It was a lot more rustic and back to basics than other places we visited- the staff were friendly. Wine tastings were reasonably priced (60 ZAR for 6 tasters as their simple package). The wine itself wasn't to my taste, and the whites were served warmer than I would have liked.

Waitress as uninterested in us as possible. She had no knowledge whatsoever of the wines and other items on the menu. Most of the items we ordered were out of stock, but the waitress did not know this as she only told us after we placed our order. Wine tasting was shocking- the waitress did not say anything about the wines, not even the name of the wine we were drinking. I asked her specifically- she answered and said she only knows the name of one of the wines. She had no other knowledge of the wines. Waited 30 mins between each tasting. Each wine served in the same glass as the previous. White wines almost room temperature. Most of the wines looked and tasted watery- as if they were watered down? Sauvignon blanc was fizzy- the waitress was just as surprised as we were. Chenin blanc was undrinkable- no one in our group could stomach it. The list goes on… Terrible, terrible service! Would not recommend at all.

Unique venue set in old rustic cellar surrounded by vineyards. We enjoyed the cheese and meat platter, toasted sandwiches and ice cream. The vertical wine tasting they offer shows the later vintages of the Chardonnay, Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc to be better. Enjoyed the 2017 Chardonnay the most. Beautiful views. Free wifi.

What an amazing find. A unique tasting experience that I thoroughly enjoyed being able to compare the various vintages to each other. Such an brilliant venue that even our daughter thoroughly enjoyed. Will be back soon.

Great views, BUT the pizzas are shockingly bad. When the tomato paste base is so freeze dried it presents as rusty coloured "stain" on the dpugh, then you know you are having defrosted bases dressed up with avo and rocket. PS: My daughter found her chicken salad acceptable.

I was the first customer today, to taste the 2025 Sauvignon Blanc at the tasting room...wonderful view overlooking the mountains and dam. It is a wonderful crisp easy drinking wine...buy enough for summer and keep ready for use in the wine fridge. 10/10 to the winemaker and staff at Excelsior

If you want to experience warm honest hospitality, beautiful views, a wonderful bottle of Calcrete chardonnay and a absolutely fabulous time at Graze deli with Deon the chef please steer your car right to this farm. You will leave happy, inspired and thankfull!

We had my wife's 50th birthday party there. Deon who did all the planning,food knows what he want and how to do it. The catering were excellent. Everybody complimented him afterwords.

The wines were lovely, but unfortunately one of the staff members made this a bad experience. Such a shame. Not a single wine had a story, very rude staff member (only the one lady) and we were not being attended to from the start of our arrival there. We come from the winelands area, but rarely have I ever seen this bad service from a wine farm with such stature as Excelsior. I wish we had a better experience.

Great deli, with delicious roosterbrood sandwiches, and stunning views. Don't be surprised if the farm dogs come running around and you can also pat the horses by the restaurants. The wines are unfortunately not good at all, best to give these a skip.

Blending your own wine has never been so fun! I would highly recommend visiting this winery during the Hands on Harvest every year in March. There’s a restaurant too.

Rooiberg Winery is known for its big red chair that stands out as you approach on the R60 road between Robertson and Worcester. In summer, you'll want to stop here because there's great air conditioning if nothing else. But you'll be treated to a welcoming environment inside. Unusually for a wine farm, there food is well-made and of decent portions and the service was sharp. Elna delivered friendly and competent service and impressed us with her good natured attitude. There is outside seating and a play area for kids but they've ensured that there is plenty of shade so you don't burn in the sun. It's one of the few farms open when others are closed.

Only stopped for a shirt while for a very light lunch. Staff very helpful and friendly. Climb into the big red chair for a bit of fun.

A lovely place to stop for lunch and / or wine tasting. The options on the menu were delicious especially the chicken livers. There is a big play area outside for the children to stretch their legs. On colder days, the inside is cozy and warm.

I dont give 5 stars without careful consideration however well deserved Rooiberg Winery!! Beautiful spotless restaurant, a delicious menu with the food being on point. Outdoor or indoor seating and our small breed dog was welcome (on a lead). There are some delicious baked goods to buy and take home. The toilets are spotless. The wine shop is definitely worth a visit. I shall be back for a 3rd visit soon.

Very nice stop on the way home. Amazing deli and coffee shop and a very friendly barrister. Massive chair to climb up and enjoy your food/drink and see the views.

Friendly staff and very welcoming with lots on offer if you hungry or just feeling for something sweet. Nice kids playground, keeps them entertained. The BIG red chair also offers a great view of the area.

We attended the Winter Wine Walk at Ginelli's Restaurant in Middelburg and were extremely impressed with Shaun, the representative from Rietvallei. He explained all the wines in an engaging and informative manner, making the experience even more enjoyable.

Take the turn off! Just do it! Such a lovely and welcoming experience on a hot summers day ! The staff were so friendly, we had a platter for lunch, set up in the art gallery. Anke did the tasting, so informative! The platter: definitely the best in the BAR VALLEY!

Beautiful grounds with tasting-and-sales room newly renovated in late 2017. Large variety of wines presented by a friendly host. I recommend combining tasting with their cheese platter on the patio. Soft drinks also for sale. They charge a small tasting fee but it is waived if you buy wine. Fair prices for good quality wines. Worth a visit on the Robertson wine route.

A gallery full of gems, which made it difficult to choose a painting to take back to New Zealand, but we persevered and found one we both loved. We highly recommend a visit, both for the range of artists as well as the efficient and friendly service. We’re thrilled to be taking a piece of African art home.
