The 50 best cheap eats in Heraklion

Our dinner at Peskesi was one of my favorite in Greece. We were fortunate to be there on the same day they were named the Best Organic Restaurant in Europe for 2025. We started with tasting their olive oil and a dip made from beets and yogurt (pictured). I typically do not care for beets, and was surprised to find that I loved this dip. It was amazing. For our mains, we ordered the Local Lamb and a slow roasted pork. I forgot to take photos of these, but they were excellent. We didn't order dessert, but received two complimentary items. One was semolina halva, which I'd never had before and was very nice. The second was some type of pastry they were serving to celebrate their award. All in all, a truly incredible meal. Additionally, the service was very good, and the location itself was lovely. I would recommend to anyone visiting the area, and will go again if I find myself back in Heraklion.

We were drawn in by the beautiful design and atmosphere, and it completely lived up to our first impression! The food was amazing, every dish was great, but the lamb was truly exceptional. There were plenty of vegetarian options and even some vegan ones, all clearly marked on the menu. I also loved that each dish mentioned how many kilometers away it was first created – such a thoughtful touch. The wine was excellent, and although there was a small mix-up at first with our waiter, the service was great afterwards. We even got complimentary dessert and an aperitif. For such an upscale place, the prices were surprisingly fair, about €72 for a full meal, four glasses of wine, and sparkling water. Highly recommended!

We visited this restaurant back in June, and only now are we finally writing the review — but it truly deserves it! This is such a wonderful place with a very pleasant atmosphere and absolutely delicious, authentic Cretan cuisine. The flavors were simply incredible. Our waiter recommended a local wine that turned out to be the best we tasted during our entire stay in Crete - we even searched for it everywhere afterwards to take some home. That’s how good it was! The hospitality was outstanding: we were even treated to a complimentary dessert and raki. A special thank you to our amazing waiter, Kosmos, who made the experience unforgettable. If we ever return to Crete, we will definitely come back to Heraklion just to visit this restaurant again. Highly recommended!

This restaurant is outstanding in every way. The staff are friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu, happy to accommodate any special requests. The food is incredible - the Dolmadakia were so tasty we couldn’t resist ordering more, and the meat dishes were excellent. The menu is clear and informative, showing the origins of each dish. We had a fantastic experience. definitely a must-visit.

Absolutely amazing experience at Peskesi - we arrived early afternoon as walk ins and were asked if we could wait an hour for a table which we were happy to do! We sat in the shade and were given menus, ordered some lovely wine based on recommendations, and were also given some complimentary cheese, olives, and tomatoes. We were happy to wait and the atmosphere was super calm and tranquil. The menu was really interesting to read as it goes into detail regarding the organic ethos of the restaurant and details how far away the food for each dish travelled to make to from farm to plate. A really good range of price points too! We ordered 4 starters and 2 mains and honestly for 3 that was too much, we were stuffed but very happy! The salads were beautiful, so fresh and light. The lamb just completely fell apart and the rice was amazing, while the chicken was moist, flavoursome, and hearty. Our selection of starters were all fantastic: baked potatoes with cheese, crispy cheese rolls with fig jam, and marinated anchovies - all beautiful. The staff were fantastic (especially the LFC supporting waiter), super attentive and made our experience absolutely gorgeous. The complimentary bread and beetroot dip was delicious, as was the rose raki and sweet treat at the end. Would highly recommend while in Crete!!!

We were advised to go to this place by person from Heraklion and were really surprised how wonderful it was. From the first sign it might look that you are in crowded old town centre with a lot of tourists but near this is tiny street where you will reach amazing Peskesi restaurant with calmness and not noisy atmosphere! 🤩 Interior was like in museum and each detail seems orderly in its place. 😌 As well as food was delicious and served in a very aesthetic manner. Highly recommend this place!

We wanted something traditional and off the beaten track (always the best places), and sure enough, that is what we found. An absolute gem of a restaurant, a short walk out of Heraklion City centre. As you walk along the suburban, residential street, you begin to think you’ve made a wrong turn. But keep on going and then appears a set of stairs. Probably not for the disabled, but guess you can’t have it all. At the top, is a beautifully laid out, coveted terrace, with an assortment of plants and beautiful view. We were immediately greeted with the warmest of welcomes and seated straight away. After perusing the drinks menu, we were recommended the house white wine, which is made in house. I have to say, it’s the best white wine I’ve had in Greece, with floral notes and a hint of lemon and pepper. At €6.90 for half a litre, you just can’t argue at the value. The menu is varied and, although I’m not a fan of menu pictures, on this menu, they truly assist with your choices as they are numbered and do show you exactly what you are about to receive. We selected the greek salad, souvlaki and goat to share between. A platter of bread, black olive tapenade and tomatoes arrived. Following came the meal and what a meal it was. The Greek salad was plentiful, tasty and complemented everything on the plate. The goat in tomato sauce, what can I say? If you’re not a fan of bones, then this isn’t the dish for you, but I don’t mind at all. The goat just fell off the bone. The tomato sauce, rich and so full of flavour, without overpowering the taste of the goat. Souvlaki is something I haven’t tried before, so was keen to give it a go. Again, the meat was tender and flavoured with aromatic spices and went so well with all the other dishes we had ordered. If I was to have it again, and this is just my personal choice, I would ask for no chips. For me, you just didn’t need them with all the other flavours and textures. Another half lite of the homemade wine was ordered. (Yes, it was that good!!) our waiter was attentive, but not in your face. After finishing the main course, we debated if there was enough room for dessert. No need to debate, as before we knew it, a plate of fresh watermelon, the most moist, light, lemon cake and creamy ice cream was delivered to our table, totally complementary, alongside the obligatory raki. Total price for the whole meal, including wine was €38. Simply the best value for money. We genuinely cannot find fault with here at all and will make it a place to visit again.

This place was very nice and the people very friendly 👨‍🍳 The food is very traditional and you can find some very good and tasty omelets done in a traditional cretan way 🇬🇷🍳 The staff was super friendly and welcoming 🙏🏻 Seems a lot of locals go here and is busy all day around ☀️

In every aspect - Wonderful! The atmosphere is quiet and friendly, easygoing, staff are warm and welcoming. The food is absolutely fantastic, rustic, local flavors and seasoning, made from local ingredients. They also have a badge of honor of sorts, as they are endorsed as “genuine local cuisine” by local authorities. Don’t miss out on the vine leaves (dolomades) and zucchini flowers stuffed with rice, the pork belly and pork sausage, the Greek salad, and the local dessert. Thank you Angelo!

A special place! I was searching for traditional food and am happy I found it tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. Best meat pies I’ve had, and love the horta.

I visit this taverna since many years. I’ve been loved their cuisine. Coming back this year I’ve noticed that the level has gone down. Some dishes (the One in photo) is still superbe, but I sadly have to say that I’ve eaten the worst Mousaka tasted in greece. I suggest you to change the Mousaka chef.. it’s terrible

A very positive experience with this restaurant. The staff was very professional and friendly, and they were also very quick with the service. As for the food - it was very tasty. Do consider experimenting with the starter meals as they are fantastic, even if you're not very hungry - take at least one plate of some starter dish and share it with your friends or family. I tried Ntolmadakia - they were absolutely fantastic. Grilled meat of any kind - is very tasty. It can be a bit tough in some pieces but it was really tasty. Salads are also fresh and tasty. We also got raki and some cakes on the house. The prices will surprise you as they are very very reasonable. I would gladly go there again.

We ate here on our first night in Crete and the experience wasn't beaten the whole holiday. Nearly all of the dishes we tried were excellent, we tried a bit of everything for a Greek meze/ tapas sort of experience. We were also recommended some incredible natural white wine which is pictured. The staff were lovely, the setting was lovely. If you're in Heraklion you have to check it out. The craft beer bar across the road is also really good, and the owner of there agreed that Parasties is a special spot. We'd go back in a heartbeat.

The restaurant was lovely. We sat on the terrace overlooking the street and really enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere. The staff was attentive and welcoming, and made sure we had everything we needed. The dishes were very nice — the Greek salad, in particular, was excellent. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would be happy to return.

Went here twice in a week. Modern Greek. We ordered the beetroot Risotto both times. Delicious! Nice atmosphere and friendly staff super knowledgeable about their dishes and wine. The grilled calamari is exceptional. Absolutely loved it.

Fantastic food. Everything we had was top tier. Fantastic service. There was also a cat named Falentina that sat with us for our entire meal. Not begging, just wanting to cuddle and be pet. It was very sweet. I would 100% come back here. Many options for different diet types as well.

One of our favorite meals in Greece! Everything was absolutely amazing - The highlights were the starters: a delicate, flavourful raw red snapper plate and a twist on the traditional Cretan pie. Our mains were also great, all very juicy and tender. Thank you to our waiters who were very kind and helpful with their reccomendations!

We had lunch at Parasties during our stay in Heraklion and the experience was flawless in every way. The restaurant has a pleasant location with a relaxing view and a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a peaceful break in the heart of the city. The meat dishes are the real highlight: everything is perfectly cooked, using fresh ingredients and delivering authentic flavors. We tried several grilled specialties, and each one stood out for its taste and quality. The lamb and the ribs, in particular, were incredibly tender and flavorful. The house wine was also excellent – aromatic and well-balanced, pairing beautifully with the meal. The service was impeccable: the staff were friendly, attentive without being intrusive, and always ready to recommend dishes and pairings with genuine professionalism. A restaurant that combines traditional Cretan cuisine, great attention to detail, and warm hospitality. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in town.

We very much enjoyed dinner at this restaurant. Beautiful setting. Interesting to see where the cooking happens. The delicious bread is made in the restaurant. The wine and food were lovely. Good portion sizes. Tasty risotto and pork. Friendly service. We will be back.

I think about this meal at least twice a week. Cretan salad was the best we had on the island. Every dish was perfection. Cannot recommend enough. Service was typical Greek service, they bring your food and leave you alone to enjoy your meal. I prefer this in comparison to the western style of checking in every 5 minutes, they came about twice which was much more appropriate! They also gave us a little dessert and ouzo on the house.

Highly recommended! a charming spot with a great atmosphere. Even when sitting indoors, it feels open and inviting. The staff were very friendly and the food came out quickly. We tried the ribeye with sweet potato cream and mayonnaise cream- simply amazing, perfectly cooked with precise flavors. The overall vibe is fantastic. There was space at lunch, but for dinner it’s best to book ahead.

The food is absolutely outstanding – true works of art, a sea of flavors with silky textures. Compliments to the chefs! The staff are attentive, warm, and have a wonderful sense of humor. Our waiter, Konstantinos, was exceptionally professional. The location may take a little effort to find, but the sound of the carillons will guide you right to it

The food was excellent — the tartare was simply the best! There might be a bit less meat than in a classic tartare, but the combination of flavors was pure magic. All the dishes were very tasty and perfectly balanced, and the presentation was a solid 5 out of 5. We’ll definitely be coming back!

This is literally the best (not one of the best) restaurant in this area! We went there two days in a row because the dishes were so tasty. Every dish we ordered was amazing! The staffs were very friendly and the environment was beautiful and relaxing. We were glad that we found this restaurant :)

2025.10/Unfortunately the food doesn’t taste such spectacular as it looks like. I’m disappointed to read such good reviews and expect much more, and, at the end, not to be satisfied by the taste of the food. The only tasteful dish was the greek salad, children version. Also after 40 minutes the main dish arrived cold as if the hot table never been invented😬. I hate to choose a place with good ratings and at the end to eat just for hungry reasons😔. Disappointed.

Amazing Mediterranean seafood cuisine, variety of wines in a very cosy environment. Not crowded at all. Don’t let the fancy appearance discourage you- the spectacular value is worth the little extra money. And don’t forget to take your kids too - there is a big fun outdoor fenced playground right next to the restaurant so you can see them play while enjoying the well deserved dessert 😉 And if the luck is in your favour and the wind is right you might witness the planes landing from the north across the city right above your head - you don’t get that chance to see this up close very often! 👌🏻

Very good and fresh sea food. We had lobster spaghetti and grouper , some nice salad etc. the service was just perfect. The restaurant is next to the airport and playground but it’s ok.

As it says on the tin, it’s a seafood restaurant and from what we ate it was good if a little expensive The wine list has a few not too pricey Crete wines starting at €24 but quickly run up to €68 and for other wines you get into big 3 figure costs , some excessively pricey Very nice place , friendly staff good service. Just don’t go when the wind is from the west as the restaurant is right under the flight path and is very noisy, planes only a couple of hundred metres up as they fly out 😲

Very lovely seafood restaurant if you want quality seafood and nice atmosphere. It is a bit expensive, but good quality. Service very nice and friendly. It can be quite noisy as the planes flys over as the airport is near buy. But definitely worth a visit. Our seafood pasta was delicious.

Great Cozy Spot for Authentic Greek Cuisine This small restaurant, tucked away near the square, is a lovely find. It has a cozy atmosphere and serves delicious, authentic Greek food. We really enjoyed the courgette croquettes and the mushroom risotto—both were flavorful and well-prepared. The service was friendly, and the complimentary dessert at the end was a nice surprise. If you’re in the area and looking for a relaxed place with good food, it’s definitely worth a visit!

Very good place! Big portions! Mousaka and dakos were gorgeous! Good Retzina! Reasonable price! Good and cozy street! At the end of your lunch you get a perfect present: ice cream, lemon cake and raki. And it’s so delicious!

Very nice place, if you want an every day greek experience go here. Had a small problem as the pork was not fully cooked but nothing more. They gave us a free dessert with some alcohol. Recommended

It was sooo delicious! The restaurant is hidden in the old town, locationwise it is windy and not warm. The food 🥘 is amazing, we tried pork and beef, and could not get enough. Later the staff gave us desert on house. Very tasty 🤤.

I found this restraunt when looking for somewhere away from the crowds. I am very glad I did. I am now on my second visit. I liked the atmosphere, the staff are welcoming and helpful, the food is very good and they also stock some very good Greek bottled beers as well as Alpha on draft served in a glass from the freezer. I could not ask for anything more.

Unfortunately the only good thing about this restaurant is it’s off the main street. You don’t really have service you get a menu and then you take off what you need and the pork and all the meat was burnt. The only good food there was the shrimp! Quite disappointed.

Lovely place with lovely atmosphere and staff. No annoying music playing - just quietness and a serene view over the harbour. I managed to tap into the neighbouring hotel’s WiFi too. The food was tasty. Good portion size. Price was reasonable. Other dishes were a little bit higher. A few vegetarian-suitable items for the main course, such as the mushroom risotto. More options amongst the starters and appetisers. The waitress surprised me with a free slice of water melon and I assume Grappa (?) after I paid the bill. Happy to have tried this place for a late-lunch and happy to recommend to others.

THE MOST DELICIOUS AND HEALTHIEST FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD! 😋 We decided to add this hidden gem to our daily activities as part of things to do at one of the cruise stops. Pictures shared here and on their website are no joke…relaxing to the beautiful view while enjoying delicious food and also having a fun drink. Yes, Not everything here is healthy😉! Thanks to Helena of course and her awesome service for making our lunch day so memorable. Biggest regret was not taking pictures of the food and not being able to eat more 😅, but that’s how enjoyable it was. I added pictures of the menu with what we order, some dishes were ordered more than once ☺️ ENJOY!

Visted here on our first day in front Ireland 🇮🇪. Roof terrace with a really nice sea front view. We had dinner which was very tasty. Drink which was good too. Out waiter was really friendly and welcoming. We only ate there one as the town is only 5mins walk and full of choices. I would recommend stopping by even for a drink and take in the view, its breathtaking.

We ordered a Greek salad and beef meatballs to share for a light lunch. All the food was great. The view is the real bonus. We are sailors and enjoyed watching all the half day charters return and dock (about 230).

Had the lamb shank & lamb steak - amazing food with larger portions than in the UK!! Cocktails were bold and of good quantity - definitely ask for the signature Herb cocktail! The view of the Venetian Port of Heraklion and the Cretan sea are very relaxing, and the staff are very friendly and attentive! Close to the airport, so expect a few flights overhead, but definitely still recommend!

The review applies for the restaurant : 1. very very average food. 2. they don't have POS, you can't pay with credit/debit card 3. the food menu on the website has different/lower prices than the real menu on the restaurant, which leads to misinformation of the customer. 4. I went to eat there and ordered a salad, there was A LOT of sugar in it, which wasn't stated on the menu. I have diabetes and therefore wasn't able to eat it, they didn't offer to replace it or refund it. Also aside from the sugar it just tasted straight up disgusting. I'd like to add that none of the four toilets there lock for some reason. Great for privacy. Oh and they blast music even at lunchtime so if you're looking for a calm place (or good food) this is not the place for you.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights during our visit to Heraklion. Upon arrival, the staff were very friendly and welcoming, offering us coffee or drinks. The room we had originally booked was under repair due to an electrical issue, so the staff arranged a different room for the night and promised to move us into our chosen room the next morning. They even waived the service fee to make up for the inconvenience. The next morning, we left early, and when we returned, the staff informed us that our original junior suite was ready and that they had already moved our luggage for us. Since we hadn’t unpacked the night before, this thoughtful gesture was very much appreciated. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable exactlyas advertised. The location was perfect, with restaurants, coffee shops, and ice cream shops all within walking distance. We would definitely stay here again!

Absolutely fantastic experience at this restaurant in the heart of Heraklion! From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the top-level service and warm hospitality. We stayed in one of the standard suites for two nights. The hotel is fairly new with stylish interior and modern functionalities but with a need for minor repairs especially in the bathroom. At arrival we were welcomed by some personnel in the reception but hereafter we didn’t see any personnel neither in the bar or the reception. This was a bit weird tbh and left us with the feeling of the hotel as a ghost hotel not being overseen by a staff.

Found this restaurant using chatGPT looking for a gluten free friendly place for lunch. Plenty of choice for adults and children. Lovely quiet setting with really nice food. Highly recommended, good value for money. They also made a bespoke meal for my daughter.

Best meal I had in 7 weeks in Europe, do yourself a favour and get the lamb kebab plate! Prices are very reasonable and the owners are so lovely, I'm not sure why this place isn't full 24/7. Amazing!!

Lovely restaurant in Herkelion, gluten free options available. Food was lovely, great portion sizes and well worth a visit. Lovely outdoor and indoor dining. All staff very friendly and I recommend visiting.

Loved having lunch at Amalia’s, they offer a range of gluten free food and vegan food. I had the chicken and lamb slouvaki and it was delicious. Service was great too, really clear communication about gluten free and I felt so safe eating there. Even had gluten free desserts. Thank you so much!

Very good, friendly personnel. The food we ordered didn’t take long to arrive at the table and it was very tasteful. Surrounded by nature and a calm street, for this price it is a big recommendation!!

We couldn’t fault a single dish from this place! We ordered the moussaka, pastitsio, lamb chops, calamari, grilled octopus, dolmades, and the Cretan fries (honestly the best chips ever) — every single plate had its own unique flavour and was absolutely delicious. It’s such a lovely family-owned restaurant with warm, welcoming staff who even treated us to complimentary crème caramels for dessert. A memorable experience all round — highly recommend trying all the traditional dishes here. We’ll definitely be coming back!

I am on holiday in Crete and my hotel does not cater AT ALL for my dietary requirements being Coeliac 😡 (seriously, don't get me started on that one). I am SO greatful to Amalia's kitchen for having a clearly marked menu for their gluten-free options, for fantastic service, great vibes and absolutely delicious food. If you are a coeliac, or gluten intolerant etc then this place is an absolute must visit. There is a reason this restaurant has the most reviews on Google relating to coeliac/gluten-free food in Heraklion.... because it's absolutely worth going to and experiencing the food for yourself. I wish this restaurant had been near my hotel (we were not staying in Heraklion) because I would have been eating here every day without fail. Just make sure you arrive hungry, because you will be stuffed by the time you finish eating 😁

The service was excellent and the owner was very friendly. The lamb chops were incredibly tasty, and both the seafood pasta and squid were super fresh and delicious. After the meal, we were treated to homemade chocolate cake and house-made liquor, which was a lovely surprise. The owner also showed us some fish freshly caught from the sea. We didn’t ask for the price since we were on a budget, but it might not be as expensive as we thought. I was feeling a bit down earlier in the day because we only planned one day in Chania with its beautiful beaches, but this amazing dinner in Heraklion totally made up for it. If we ever come back to Crete, we’ll definitely return to this restaurant

Had an amazing meal here! Fresh seafood cooked simplistically but to perfection. And the fries were to die for. Friendly and helpful staff plus the location made the meal even more memorable. Pity we were too full to try the fried fish and fried zucchini fritters. They looked really good too. Well worth a visit and the prices were very reasonable.

This is the place with the best service and people I have seen in Crete. The people who work there are extremely kind, attentive and pleasant. It was very nice to be there. This was an excellent meal in Crete! We had the bread service, mussels, grilled shrimps, and daily catch (red snapper). The whole meal was delicious and we got a complementary dessert and small ouzo glass each. The view was spectacular at sunset and the wait staff was very kind and spoke multiple languages. Highly recommend!

I had the absolute pleasure of tasting an authentic Greek seafood dish at Kastella. One of the best dinners on Crete 😍 I eat fresh fish with fried potatoes and salad. And that was super delicious! The staff and the owner are really kind and generous. They gave me a complimentary dessert and drink. And the view is perfect for the sunset. It’s just near the sea. Highly highly recommend 🫶

The food was spectacular! Perfectly cooked steaks that were larger than expected. The Cretan salad and chicken bites were amazing too, almost a full meal with just them. Kosta our server was excellent and tended to our every need, with some helpful banter on the city and Greek life in general. The atmosphere was great and not as noisy as other spots in the city. Definitely a higher class of restaurant in the city.

Perfect service, so welcoming, was very patient to our toddler. The 1st dishes were fresh with high quality ingredients but the real show was the Rib Eye steak which perfectly made and was so so delicious. We also had an amazing Creamschnitt cake

Absolutely delicious experience at Kouzeineri Steak House – a meaty dream come true! We stopped by Kouzeineri Steak House around 5 PM – perfect timing, as the place wasn’t too crowded yet, and we could fully enjoy the vibe without the dinner rush. And oh, what a feast it was! We kicked things off with Buffalo chicken wings as a starter – and wow, they were spot-on: perfectly spiced, just the right level of heat, and served with a herby yogurt dip that we could honestly eat by the spoonful. A perfect start! For the mains, my husband went big with the ribeye steak – beautifully grilled, juicy, with grilled veggies and some baby potatoes that were so good we debated stealing them from each other. I had the half chicken – and let me tell you, it was a real half chicken, no bones, full flavor. Served with veggies and a bright chimichurri sauce that made each bite better than the last. We thought we were done... but of course, “for the house,” came a generous slice of cake. Super tasty, though after all that food, I could only manage a few bites – but it's the thought (and sugar) that counts! The service was warm and attentive, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed but classy – a great spot for meat lovers. Now, if I had to nitpick... the steak price was a bit of a surprise. It was listed as €42 for 350g, but the waiter only mentioned after we ordered that they only had 400g cuts. Not a dealbreaker, but that info would’ve been nice before the decision. Also – €7 for sparkling water? That bottle better have come from the Alps personally escorted by goats. Total bill: €114 (2 Paulaner beers, 1 gin & tonic, mains, starter, water, dessert “on the house”). All in all, an absolutely fantastic meal – one of the best we had in Heraklion. We’d go back in a heartbeat (maybe just bring our own water next time!).

We went for a late lunch and were delighted with the calm ambience, fun music, service was so excellent we even had a mini history class about Crete and their wine production. The food was stunning, even better than expected.

I absolutely love this place. Excellent service, food, and atmosphere. I was traveling alone in Herakilon and struggled to find a place where I felt comfortable. Most restaurants don't offer bar seating, and I hate to sit at a table alone. Found this place by chance after walking for over an hour and thought I'd give it a shot. The food is not traditional Greek but it's delicious and so are the drinks. I tried several appetizers and asked for the mocktails to be made into cocktails. I was not disappointed. The bar seating is super comfortable, and you can charge your phone. Went two nights in a row. Will definitely return again before I leave the city.

First night in Crete. We checked into our hotel and could smell something delicious. We decided to try this place and it was amazing. The food, service and atmosphere was unbelievably good. I highly recommend Kouzeineri and our waiter Nick.

Amazing place to eat. We showed up (no reservation) at 10:00pm with a party of 14 and were given a private room upstairs. The service was prompt and the waiters were friendly and took care of each of us. We had an age range of 8 to 65 an there was something for all of us. Sampled several of the appetizers, assorted sausages, roasted vegetables, beet root salad, zucchini flower and bread. The open face gyro was good for one personal, the ribeye steak had food flavor and could feed 2 or one hungry person. Finished up with desert, a sweet light alcohol drink and a sweet pastry, (Sorry, can't remember the desert names, but see the pics.) Highly recommended!

A fine restaurant, although i didn't see much of it as i was seated in a room that was relatively emptied away from the main dining hall. only took a glimpse of it while i was passing by upon entry. The food was nice yet it tends toward the savory side. There was not many staff pass by the area so it was slightly difficult to grab someone's attention.

Must to visit restaurant with extra delicious meat. All dishes were great, but meat was above expectations. We tried lamb chops, lamb kleftiko and steak as mains. And these were piece of art. We went there at lunchtime, the atmosphere was very calm, and the restaurant itself is beautiful. The waiter was kind, and we had a nice conversation with him. I had the Kleftiko, it was my first time trying this dish in Greece, and it was very flavorful!

Atmosphere and place are very nice, while food was hit & miss, service bad. We came based on reviews, maybe we didnt order what was expected, but staying with the plates after we finished for 20 mins on the table, including initial stuff given by restaurant, felt off.

We drove from Chania to enjoy some traditional antikristo for lunch before checking into our hotel. No antikristo offered for lunch and the souvlaki was full of fat and flavorless. Super disappointed, a waste of meal in such a flavorful country.

Traditional bakery, must to try the classical bougatsa with creme and cinnamon. The taste is very similar to a cinnamon roll, and I loved it. We also tried the variation with chocolate cream as topping (similar to Nutella). It tasted like a chocolate crepes. Anyway, we recommend to go with the classical version. Tables for in-place consumption are arranged in 2 or 4 places at most, groups bigger than 4 people may have to split in different tables or to wait a bit.

October 2025: came based on the TikTok videos hype. The classic bougatsa with cream can't tell ya because the kid brought one with castard instead of our order of the classic one. It was perfect, right fluff from the filo dough. I would do away with powered sugar. It was too sweet. Outside seating in October was perfect in the morning. Service: was mediocre, kid didn't get the order right but we didn't bother hassle with getting the right order. During my visit, there was an older gentleman (owner or mgr) standing Infront of the whole outdoor seating area yelling at the kids to clean a table when it's done or get this for that table which may look efficient but it was taking away from the secrene view at the 4 lions fountain that the store over looks. It was stressing us out. Train your staff man, don't hold their hand and micro manage every little move and yell in our face. The price was 4€ for the bougatsa and 4 € for large latte. I would be curious to try both in the next door cafe that was very full as well

We came at a busy time. 3 adults and two young children. They managed to get us a table and we had bougatsa, tiropita, a cretan pizza, and a cretan salad. We were all happy with the food. The salad and bougatsa were very good. Probably the best bougatsa I've had. I would visit again. The restaurant inside was clean and the staff were friendly.

This place has been serving the BEST bougatsa since 1922 — flaky, warm, and absolutely unforgettable. The traditional Greek coffee is rich and aromatic, and their frappe is spot-on perfection. What truly sets Kirkór apart is the incredible hospitality. Dimitri, the owner, is one of the most welcoming people you'll ever meet. He makes you feel like family from the moment you walk in. Authentic flavors, a cozy atmosphere, and a legacy of excellence — Kirkór is a must-visit. I’ll be coming back every chance I get!

Was dying to try Bougatsa and everything was closed on a Sunday, but luckily we found this place and everything we ate here was absolutely delicios. They have a large variety of Bougatsa (both sweet and savory) at good prices. The tables overlook a small plaza so the atmosphere is super nice :)

A beautiful spot tucked away on a small street. Was visiting the city for a night and I was looking for falafel because I don’t eat meat it seemed like every restaurant that I went to catered to meat. I googled falafel and found The chickpea it’s a self serve restaurant, the customer service was great and the food was delicious I would definitely recommend this place if you have dietary restrictions. ❤️

Situated on a side street away from the hustle and bustle, you'll enjoy a refreshing meal made by friendly staff. You can even create your own preferred version from a list of ingredients if that's your thing. We even received some fruit and raki on the house at the end. Definitely recommended!

I had the most amazing food and Freddo here. The staff is super friendly. Everything is vegan/veggie friendly. We did the make your own place. I’d highly recommend the local cream cheese (Gelani), the chutney and the potatoes. They have great portion sizes as well.

The falafel is absolutely delicious. If I could package the restaurant up and take it home with me, I would. The owners are very nice and sweet. They take the time to answer any questions you have about the menu. They can also help you decide between all their delicious choices.

First restaurant we visited in Crete. Also one of the best. I had the falafel wrap and it was delicious. You had a choice between lots of different fillings! Fries were also homemade with a choice of different sauces. They sell lots of other organic products. This was such a great traditional Greek experience. This family run restaurant was perfect we had moussaka, grilled lamb chops and a traditional beef stew. All was delicious and the pricing was unbelievable. The owners were so gracious and friendly we felt very special.

I was introduced to this restaurant by a friend who is a local here. Superbly warm and friendly service from the owner, who brought us into the kitchen to introduce the dishes he has. Home cooked good quality Greek food, served with reasonable prices and also located in a nice neighbourhood.

One of the most beautiful spots to eat in Heraklion — seriously, the setting is stunning and absolutely worth a visit. The servers are fast and efficient, keeping things moving even in the midst of a slightly chaotic atmosphere. The food was beautifully presented and overall delicious. My only critique was the octopus, which was just a touch overcooked. Still, a memorable meal in a gorgeous location. I’d definitely return.

We chose this restaurant based on the many positive reviews, hoping for an exceptional fine dining experience. Unfortunately, the reality fell short of our expectations. Many of the dishes that should have come from fresh ingredients were frozen products. The service also lacked attentiveness. Rather than offering a welcoming, customer-focused approach, the staff felt more like messengers delivering plates. We were told to “choose any table” upon arrival, with little engagement or interest from the main waiter. As for the food: the mussels were bland and simply steamed without seasoning, the shrimp pasta was of average quality with noticeably small shrimp (a disappointment compared to older reviews mentioning large prawns), and the chicken fillet was underwhelming—neither juicy nor well-seasoned. We chose indoor seating to avoid smokers, but this assumption proved wrong, as smoke still disrupted the atmosphere. Waiters allowed smoking insight. In summary, if you are seeking a true seafood restaurant offering fresh, high-quality dishes and fine dining experience, you may want to explore other options. First impression wasn't great because no one welcomed us and invited us to take a seat, we had to catch a waiter and ask if we can enter. But after that we had a great time. We were already full after starters and then the heavy artillery arrived which included probably the best tasting shrimp we've ever tried (in seafood linguine). We asked to get the leftovers packed for later and then they gave us complimentary desserts, fruit and Raki. Definitely recommended.

Ordered mussels, home made tzatziky, sardines, sea bream, meat balls and everything was great. Quick and friendly servis. If every restaurants was like this, the world would be better place. The view itself makes the restaurant worth it, put that together with true immaculately prepared food, whether it’s the cold Cretan salad and the ceviche or the hot dishes, they will mention that none of the seafood is fresh except the mussels, however believe me they don’t taste of something frozen, we had the fried squid and the grilled octopus, the grilled sea bream with the lemon butter sauce was delicious. Save some space though, they will bring you free dessert and raki to top the meal of, you will leave the restaurant with a full stomach and heart and a tipsy head 🙂‍↔️

Really a brilliant restaurant. This was our second visit. Tonight we had the zucchini flowers, avocado salad, and lamb liver; also grilled rosemary chicken. Edit for emphasis: we do not ordinarily order liver of any kind, because most restaurants in Canada that offer it can't do it right. After our visit to this restaurant last night, we trusted them to do it right, and they did. It was beautifully tender and extremely rich and tasty. House wine is just fine. I had the red last night with my lamb, and the white tonight with the chicken. Extremely tasty as well.

This was recommended by our landlord and it didn't disappoint. The service was first class and the food was even better. Washed down with typical Cretan hospitality in the form of Raki and dessert, it was a very memorable night at a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend a visit.

Everything is perfect. The food is amazing and service is really good. The staff are very hospitable and caring. My personal favourite is the baby goat with lemon sauce (which I happen to not have a photo…). The meat was very tender and the sauce gave a delicate and light taste so you won’t get too greasy after few bites. We are happy with everything and will definitely come back to try other interesting dishes.

This was the best food experience we had in over 2 weeks in Greece. Beautiful surroundings, friendly kind service and most importantly truly delicious and nuanced food. I have thought about this meal several times since having it last week.

We ate there two times, but it didn’t hit the spot, it was nothing special. The place is located in a cute small square off the Main Street, the service was good, but the food was not that impressive - the octopus was chewy, the tomatoes for the salad were cut in quarters and didn’t seem fresh to me, the zucchini was good, but overall we weren’t impressed. The place is more affordable than others in the vicinity, but I’d recommend that you spend more elsewhere. They serve you a small cake with ice cream and raki with the bill, which I found very cute and did not happen for us in other places in Crete

One of my favourites in the whole trip. The mushrooms carried depth of flavour. The octopus was slow-cooked then grilled, very tender. The moussaka was hearty and fulfilling. The grilled chicken was rather dry, but doesn't detract from the overall positive experience.

Tucked away in the old town of Heraklion, this restaurant was a fantastic find. The highlight of my meal was the grilled squid yes, it was drenched in olive oil, but somehow, it still worked beautifully. The tzatziki was also spot on, perfectly balanced in flavor. I also tried the traditional pasta with cheese, which was rich and comforting, especially with the delicious broth underneath. My friends explored a variety of meat dishes , all of which were well-executed. The meal ended on a high note with a complimentary serving of rakia and a decadent chocolate cake with ice cream such a thoughtful touch. This place was a little gem. The owner made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived on this humble street corner that allowed you sink into a real taverna style immediately. The food was certainly home.cooked as it took time to arrive and lasted authentic every single dish. The mix grill was a stand out a real generous serve that was difficult to finish. The salad was simply amazing with beautiful freshness and an abundant flavour throughout. We had plenty of other tasty morsels and none of the plates went back half eaten all were wiped clean

We were lucky with a table as we didn’t have to wait but it was so busy that they were telling people to come back a little later. One man was serving and a woman cooking. The man was managing well taking into consideration the place was full, didn’t have to wait overly long for anything. The food was very nice and the portions were solid. If you’re looking for some place to have a proper Greek dinner with reasonable prices this one is for you.

We wanted to try local authentic Greek food, and after the first dinner here, we came back here the next day for the other menus. The beer and food here at night are marvelous. I really enjoyed the variety of dishes like the Cretan salad, grilled sardines, and dolmades. Even though I came alone, I loved that I could still try so many different things. The service was so kind and welcoming. At first, I felt a bit sorry to take up a spot by myself since so many people were visiting, but I never once felt uncomfortable. I ended up having such a delightful meal and now I’m leaving with such a wonderful memory of Crete. Thank you very much!!

We were on a 16-day trip, and this was our absolute favourite restaurant. While wandering the streets, we came across this place and decided to stop in. We are so glad we did. The server was incredible. She spoke great English, offered so many thoughtful suggestions, and helped us order a variety of dishes to share since it was our first meal in Greece. She wanted us to get the full Greek experience, and she absolutely delivered. The food was outstanding. Every single dish we ordered was amazing. We have tried to recreate several of them at home, especially the tirokafteri and melitzanosalata, but nothing compares. At the end of our meal, the server brought out a delicious dessert and a taste of ouzo for us to try. She was so kind and made us feel completely at home. I truly wish we had gotten her name. We sat outside on a beautiful patio just off the main street. It had a cozy, family-style feel and was the perfect setting for such a memorable meal. Thank you for welcoming us in and making our first Greek meal such a special experience.

A very pleasant experience. Amazing food and lovely waitress! At first, I went to a trendy restaurant I found on Google Maps with a 4.9 rating. When we got there, we felt it was too crowded, right next to the road and the sea — perfect for people who enjoy lively places. But we just wanted a quiet meal with some local food. So we turned back into a small alley and went to a restaurant where a young lady had given us a warm smile as we passed by. We ordered seafood rice, fish soup, and Cretan-style snails — all of them were very delicious: The seafood rice was somewhere between Spanish paella and Portuguese rice soup, but what really stood out was the incredible freshness and sweetness of the seafood. The fish soup, likely made with red snapper, came in a boat-shaped bowl with a yellow-green broth and a touch of rice. It had a rich, creamy flavor, with tender fish and even what seemed like crab meat, making the taste and texture wonderfully layered. What was really nice was that when we asked for the bill, the lady surprised us with two pieces of honey cake and a small bottle of their homemade strong brandy. That made us very happy. Even more delightful was when we said goodbye and complimented the owner on the tasty food and great wine — he warmly said, “You liked our drink? Then take another bottle with you!” That really made our day.

Nice quiet location and the food was tasty, with smaller portions than in other places in Greece (which is ok) However, they brought bread and a spread without asking and later charged €1.50 per person, including for a child. If they had informed us in advance, I would not have refused, but placing it on the table without any choice felt misleading and left a bad impression. Because of this, I wouldn’t return.

Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad. But there are surely 100 better options for you in Heraklion. This place was recommend by Le Routard 2017 and either owners have changed or food quality has severely decreased as it was average at best and felt quite like your typical touristic restaurant where quality standards are not at the level you’d expect. Again, not mad whatsoever but our recommendation: find an alternative if you can, the city has much more to offer.

We had a very unpleasant experience at this place. We ordered only three items, but they kept bringing things we did not ask for, like water, sauces, and a dessert “on the house.” Later, they even brought vodka we never ordered. We had previously been drinking something like wine, so it really felt like they assumed we were already tipsy and would just drink it, get even more drunk, and either spend more money or be taken advantage of. When we asked for the check, they were reluctant to bring it and kept watching us closely. Only after we insisted did they bring the bill — and we noticed extra items we never ordered, including the water. Place was nearly empty. At the other end of the sea front restaurants people were queuing for a table. Why? Staff were excellent. Food was lovely. It was cooked really well and presented really well. The Snails were delicious. The Seafood linguine sublime. More than enough for anybody. The House White Wine was crisp and cold. To the Waiters concern I even turned down complementary fruit or sweet for desert! If people can be bothered to walk an extra 75 metres they’ll be treated really well with some great food. before travelling to Crete, I tagged this fabulous restaurant to visit. Little did we know we would have a family style welcome by our hostess Marina, treating us like royalty- great salads and Aperol Spritz with sunny views from her deck over the blue Mediterranean waters. It was good. The staff was very kind and polite, the ambience was extraordinary and the food was ok. It has room for improvement to be honest, but it was a good enough (Seafood saganaki-the shrimps and mussels were very fresh and trhe feta cheese was extremele tasty, the Salmon pasta was mediocre, but in both cases the portions were More than enough).The ambience is definetely the best in the afternoon or evening. Give it a try!

4.5/5 I never thought I would say this about a place but I genuinely think they gave us too much food. The food was amazing, it was delicious however, I would not say it’s a 10/10. There was room for improvement but I think I had everything I needed on my plate. My friend got the T-Bone stake which I personally liked but she wasn’t the biggest fan of. We also sat outside to watch the sunset but I guess because of the winds, the food go very cold, very fast. I know this wasn’t the restaurants fault because we chose to sit outside, but I would recommend to get a seat inside of you don’t really mind about scenery.

"Beer from all over the world" - not really. Also not much real craft beer. But definitely more than a solid selection for a "cafe". The best beer I've seen was Orval :-) Fondue - tasty but not exactly my thing

Pretty unique place all around Crete and highly popular. I always choose a chocolate drink and have started experimenting with various flavors. If you go for a chocolate fondue avoid the chocolate drink as that would be too much and rather go for a nice cup of tea. There are also many beer labels available, some scarce among them. Snack are good nothing special. Highly recommended when in Heraklion city center.

This is by far one of my favorite spots in Heraklion! I’m gluten & dairy free, so it’s usually difficult to find options for me in Greece, however, Crumb was extremely accommodating. They have plenty of alternative milk options as well. The staff were extremely friendly & everything we ordered was delicious - the Popeye omelette (modified) & the pancakes. Highly recommend checking this spot out!

Many clearly labeled vegan foods and drinks, friendly staff with service in English. Bathrooms downstairs for customers, but walk slowly as the lights are automatic and only turn on once in there. You can make no mistake with food orders as long as you check for the symbol that represents your dietary needs. Very good food and drinks!

Nice atmosphere, but the food and service sucks. This was supposed to be a Cretan salad, no arugula can be found, just bunch of mushy greens. The server saw me being disappointed with the food and didn’t even bother to offer something else instead, simply dropped the check.

Great service, food came fast and got a free bottle of water with our food. Bread was 9,50€ and pancakes 6€.

First they messed up with my husband’s order and only after 15 minutes of waiting they informed what he has ordered cannot be made . Then I specifically asked for no ham in my pasta and they served me with the pasta with ham in it as waitress didn’t communicate to the chef properly , not sure if the chef forgot. It was only when the food came I realised this does not look right. I asked the waitress to double check . They didn’t regard my food restrictions . They changed my order and I had to wait another 15 minutes . But I couldn’t eat the meal as I was already put off from the meal. They didn’t charge us for the meal I ordered but it wasn’t about the money. I think they need to be more careful about people’s food restrictions.

I stopped in for breakfast at Granary yesterday morning. This was part of a mission to roam the city center to try tavernas and restaurants I've somehow passed by the past 6 years. I must say I was pleasantly surprised, especially with the kind of smiles and service we've not seen here since before COVID. The young lady who greeted me, well, she actually rescued this rating a bit. The venue is a small, but super nice pub on one of Heraklion's nicest parks. That said, the cook pretty much goofed on my favorite breakfast test dish. The problem was the eggs being slightly overcooked, and the inside of the omelette being watery. This happens when you try to stuff too many watery ingredients into the mix. The outside gets overcooked in an attempt to cook the stuffed inside. The edges are dry, etc. Other than this, everything from the water to the presentation and a brilliant cappuccino was perfect. Oh, and you should never serve toast, especially wedges, without marmalade, jam, jelly, or at least butter. What's the point? Next time I try for eggs over easy.

Service was slow even when the restaurant was half empty, over- priced sushi (around about 50€ for what you see) with so much rice & not enough fish or other ingredients inside. As about the taste, it’s even way below an average European version of sushi. Don’t recommend it

The food didn’t taste as good as they look. pure disappointment. The crab bao was surimi with salad, the flavouring was horrible. The pork belly was on point tho. The soup of the ramen was sour which I did not expect, and the noodle itself is too soft. The fish in sushi roll does not taste fresh. Overall, overpriced and please don’t bother to go here.

Unique flavors for Heraklion. Great quality ingredients that result to these flavors and textures. The stars for me were the shrimp tempura, the slow cooked pork and the black sesame ice cream stuffed mochi. Staff is very friendly and helpful. It was very quiet when we visited, suitable for a business meal. Also has a great variety of wines and cocktails. I will visit again to try more things.

Nice to eat something different. Good quality. Poke bowl was rather small and good have used something fresh like mango. Otherwise good and tasty!

Well, let me start from the Ramen. Ramen tasted like french onion soup. The onion taste overpowered all other ingredients in the ramen and it was way too heavy. It is definitely not an original Japanese recipe. Sushi and poke was okay but ramen was not at an acceptable standard for sure. When we told the waiter all he said was "okay" we ended up going to another restaurant to get some miso soup since this ramen was disgusting.

An oasis in Heraklion. A must go. Again and again. Friendly staff ready to assist and explain all the choices in the menu. Not to mention to taste the Peru Japanese part! And don't forget, the cocktails rock! Good job! Excellent place, decorated with taste and love!

Krasas is right around the corner from our house, but somehow we never ordered from there or visited before. We were pleasantly surprised, I must say. The food got here fast, the hamburgers and other dishes we ordered were fresh and tasty. Well worth the prices. There is one negative, however. Even though the hamburgers were tasty, and the ingredients fresh, these are not exactly hamburgers by an American's appreciation. I would call them "Greek Burgers" with appropriate buns, lettuce, tomato, and a special sauce sort of like what McD's uses. All that said, I will order from again, maybe even the Greek hamburgers they make :)

A nice big fast-food restaurant, near the airport in Heraklion. The portions are pretty big for the prices, which was around 6 euros per person. So if you are looking for a quick meal near the airport this is the right place. The staff is also really nice.

Very good place for fast casual food. The food was fresh and great. It was very easy to get to from the airport (HER)...only 6 minute drive away. I suppose if you were up for it, you could walk it. Lots of street parking. They have menus in English and great options for kids--or they were willing to customise our order for our children. It's clean. The bathrooms even have small toilets for children as well as a play area for young kids. Great quick stop before or after your flight into HER airport.

Excellent Souvlaki “Gyros” at a fair price with an excellent atmosphere and even better service. You can request to add tzatziki to any of the amazing options.

I have been there on St valentine's day, and my experience was great: the food was unique and delicious, the atmosphere was wonderful, everything was decorated and there was live music: singers sang very romantic songs and played the piano. I would like to go there one more time for such event.

One of the best restaurants in Heraklion, probably the very best. We have visited it in March, 2014, when they had a new chef. The presentation was creative, ingenious, and the food raised to the expectations. This was not just seeing something pretty on a plate, but also an unparalleled there were no cliches on the menu either, everything was unexpected, brilliant, fit for the name of the restaurants.

Visited it last night and it really failed to impress both my girlfriend and me. The service was very slow, we had to wait no less than an hour between the starters and the main, my lamb with beans was utterly flavourless and yet prices were considerably higher than average for Heraklion. In most places I would have given it a higher rating, but Cretan cusine turned out to be amazing and this place just does not do it justice. Dine elsewhere.

Brillant chef Zinonas Christofidis is a genius of creativity and presentation. Guests here can expect the full gourmet treatment, leaving off the pretension and price usually associated with the best gastronomy. This is a classy establishment that offers creative traditional Cretan cuisine. Ask for the hotel director's favorite wine suggestions, this alone will exceed your expectations for the place. I had the Lamb “soutzoukakia”, which is a kind of Greek meatball made with lamb, wheat, and fresh mint for a main - magnificent!

Nice and clean environment. Prices are a bit high for locals, meaning a portion of food will cost 8-10 euros. The waiters are always busy, so probably you will wait half an hour to pay the bill and another half an hour to find a table to sit. Nevertheless you will not be disappointed for the quality of food. You will also get a free dessert at the end of your meal.

Very nice lunch restaurant near the city center, in the shopping area. You can also buy things to go, or eat in. Their food looks amazing and everything is quite fast since they already have it cooked. However, around lunch you may need to wait 20-30 minutes to get a table, but it’s worth the wait. Photos and prices from today 15th April 2024. We went for the fish with mashed potatoes and lasagna with spinach, beer and water. They brought at the end a free desert, and for everything we paid ~40€. Overall an excellent place to grab lunch between a shopping session and tourist activities. Highly recommended it. A+

If you're looking for an expensive bland frozen-patty burger this is your spot. The buttermilk chicken tender meal as advertised is a combination of tiny little fingers and medium sized nuggets. Service was slow and hesitant to correct any order issues. Seriously don't waste your time or money going here.

Goody’s Burger House in Heraklion impressed us with its Texas BBQ and Teeny Pack deal (two hamburgers, fries, and a drink for just €5.5). The food was delicious and reasonably priced. We loved the three free dips—ketchup, cheddar, and a unique, tasty option. There's ample seating both indoors and outdoors, with options on multiple floors, including a small kids' play area downstairs. Highly recommend for great food and a welcoming atmosphere!

There two main food options in Heraklion: tourist fast food and hotel restaurants, which tend to be expensive and not always tasty. Umami offers a refreshing alternative and is surely the best choice. Conveniently located near the main tourist center, it is a cozy corner spot with original decor and, importantly, no crowds. And then there’s the food, the real reason to visit. It’s a creative mix of local flavors and original recipes, made with fresh ingredients and served in generous portions. I return here every time I come back to Crete. The owner takes great pride in his work and is a genuinely kind and passionate person. It’s well worth supporting his business and having a chat while you’re at it.

Fabulous little restaurant offering a great selection of vegetarian and vegan options. I had the mushroom gyros - which was delicious and filling, along with a fresh fruit juice. Everything is made to order and from scratch in front of you. The gentleman who owns this restaurant was lovely, and I heard him explain to several customers how they’d have to wait for at least half an hour as he had to make previous orders first. They were all happy to wait, and rightfully so as the food is definitely worth waiting for. Highly recommended.

We were looking for a less traditional restaurant and tried out Umami. My partner ordered a wrap, I ordered the rice and tofu. The restaurant reeeeally lives up to its name, the umami was plentiful! The portions were good, and it sits in a cosy and quiet street (at least around lunch time). The preparation took a bit long, but we weren’t in a hurry, so 5 stars on all fronts still.

I was looking for vegetarian options and found this - I had the vegetarian mushroom gyros and they were absolutely delicious! My boyfriend had the fried chicken and was also very happy with his choice. The owner was very kind & friendly. Would absolutely recommend. :-)

Superior food at a bargain price. Mushroom Gyro (with tender oyster mushrooms), falafel plate (homemade with no flour or fillers), lemon-zest quinoa, and fresh seasonal produce like local baby zucchini. The owner cares about bio/organic ingredients and details like using the best lentils called "beluga." This unassuming place should be packed considering the food quality relative to the reasonable prices. Please be patient, the friendly owner will prepare and plate your food with great skill, care, and pride. Food so good that I also grabbed a salad to go for tomorrow's boat ride : )

Very good food! I had the Falafel wrap which I enjoyed and my wife got a cranberry iced tea which was pretty and refreshing. She also had a quinoa lentil salad which was quite good

We stopped to this place to eat something. We were in two and we order one crêpe to share. The girl who served use was rude to us, she did not give us a plate nor forks and knives. When we asked for them she provides us with a plastic plate. Then, we asked for forks and knives and she gave us only one fork and one knife (we were in two!). We took a sit. The waiter brought glasses and water for all the customers but us. Rude staff and junk food (the crepe was terrible indeed, full of mayonnaise over other ingredients we chose)

Totally love their coffee and bougatsa. Staff is very nice but sometimes you can feel they are not „shining with kindness and smiles” - reasons can be anything but overall it’s a very nice experience, everything is quick and great in taste !

The service that we experienced today was very very poor. Both waiters were very rude. We got 2 halves of bougatsa for 4e. Even though it was a bit expensive, the flavour was very good so we came back to get some mixed fruit juice. While we were checking the flavours, the waiter first asked us very impolitely if we wanted mixed juice. We said yes and that we wanted it to be served in a glass (not plastic). Then she literally yelled on us "sit then". Which we did, thinking that she would bring us the menu or come to ask which flavour we want. But instead a minute later she comes with 2 glasses of her own mixture with carrot, apple and orange. Of course we complained that it was not what we wanted and why she made it without asking us. She just responded "now I made it". We rejected to drink it and asked for a new one with the fruit we wanted. At end she just brought the bill where she charged us 5e for each drink. Of course we noticed that the price didn't match the price on the menu and asked for an explanation. To avoid further conflicts we just paid 10e and left. Worst service ever in Greece and we would definitely not come back to this place. From all the experience in Greece so far it is really a miracle that the owner managed to find all rude waiters. Never thought I would experience that here. Unfortunately not possible to give minus stars.

We stopped for a short visit to grab a bite,and I got cream pie.The lady serving me was quite nice I got it that she's still training for the job,but then her assistant came in and told me my pie was twice the price because it was two portions (it was one that ,if i got it right should be cut in two really small parts) 4€ for a hardly any good pie is not the best price. The girl apologized for the inconvenience and it wasn't really that big a deal. I wanted to add that the woman manager in this place was not friendly towards me or her trainee.I would have payed happily the 4€ if the manager was a little bit more nice. I did pay it,but to be honest it wasn't worth it.

I've seen a lot of negative reviews but for me personally the experience has been very pleasant. Me and my bro took coffees, they arrived quickly and the staff was very polite ! Prices too! Especially on the center it is very important ! Quick tip ! If you have a cosmote phone you can send a "deals for you" message and receive a coffee for free ! As an added bonus, if you have a bytes everest club account, you can also receive rewards !

Very clean and good atmosphere. We just drank something, we didn't eat. Toilets are located opposite the entrance down the stairs where the red fire extinguisher sign is on the wall. However, male toilet lock is not working. Therefore, you can close the door but since you can't lock the door, someone can easily open it.

Flocafe is was not so terrible. The beer was good but the food wasn't terrible. The price was all right.

I’ve been a regular there for a while. Simply one of the best places to eat out in town. High quality, good prices, very filling portion sizes. Also a good options for Vegans in the area their tofu dishes are top tier

We went on the Thursday for the buffet which starts at 6pm. The food was nice, the chicken and sweetcorn soup was good. The chicken dishes were also quite nice. It did lack some extra desserts as there was only melon available but other than that a nice meal and reasonably priced.

Came here with incredibly low expectations given the reviews. However, we were craving rice and Asian food so we gave it a try. Being raised in Asia and eating local Chinese food, i was throughly impressed with the dishes. We ordered a la carte (not the buffet). The flavours were authentic and portions decent. The only thing unjustifiable was the price for a bowl of rice. Staff were friendly, attentive and accommodating to our requests for less salt. Definitely worth a shot.

We were ready to rate this place highly until I discovered pink chicken. We had already eaten most of it before we noticed(battered chicken). Told the staff, we were told it's not undercooked. I have been a chef for 10 years, I know pink chicken when I see it. We weren't even offered a reduced price for the food, just fortune cookies or some desert(which here in Crete, you get in most restaurants after good food anyway). Extremely disappointed. I just hope we're not going to be sick.

We unfortunately didnt get pictures, however the 6pm buffet was lovely. It is a small amount of options though, however common favourites such as chicken curry, egg fried rice, sweet & sour chicken, bbq spare rib, onion rings, noodles and so on, nice little sushi selection also! Service 4* as we didnt really need anything however had to wait at little while when wanting another drink or trying to pay, other than that, a great meal

The food is quite good and cheap. Big variety with all the typical chinese dishes and a menu offer that covers the basics. The location is very convenient and has an excellent sea view. Service is very friendly and helpful. The whole experience was not something exceptional but it's also one of those places that you will always go back because you will always find something you want to eat and has this relaxing atmosphere that makes you feel at home.

Very nice atmosphere and vibes. Not all employees will smile at you and that’s normal because they probably had multiple shifts. But some of them were delightful and very kind. We ordered and it was served quicker than we thought which is nice. We took our sweet time enjoying the food and conversation without anyone bothering us which is a big plus. We had the courgettes balls/patties as starter with cheese and dill inside it was nice and paired well together. Then another starter meat and local cheese rolls, it was nice but dry even with the dip which means only one thing not enough cheese and that’s unfortunate because this is local. As a main we had a meat platter for 2 it was nice but a lot of meat so I’d advise you to order a salad on the side. They offered the raki (local drink) with some fruits and yogurt on the house which was very Greek. They are nice and very welcoming in general.

My husband selected to dine here based on the google reviews and that they offered snails on the menu. Unfortunately there were no snails available on the night we ate there but we were not disappointed!!! The venue is beautiful and the staff fun, friendly and attentive!!! The best staff we’ve encounted. Every dish we selected was so flavoursome. We’ve had some lovely meals on this holiday but this was by far our favourite meals so far. We cannot fault anything. We wish we were staying longer in Heraklion just so we could eat here again. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Despite being pretty busy, we were able to get a table after around 10 minutes. It was definitely worth waiting for. The grape leaves, pork steak, and lamb were all outstanding. Service was excellent, easy communication and very friendly. Solid restaurant all around. Highly recommended to dine here.

Best Alamo we had in Greece, all food was delicious with great service and environment. They served free dessert which was a very lovely gesture, the taste was unfortunately not something we like but it’s a great experience to taste what traditional Greek dessert was like.

One of the best experiences that we had in that town. The service was very helpful and friendly. Recommended us the right amount of food, didn’t try to “push” more than we needed. Our waiter was Yanis and he was fantastic. The food was absolutely delicious, juicy meat was made on point. The pork starter was mind blowing. Also the signature antikristo was soft and simply delicious. Also the panchetta.

A great place to enjoy traditional Cretan cuisine! We had a wonderful experience overall. We arrived about half an hour after it opened, and it was already nearly full. After being seated, we placed our order. Everything we tried was delicious, but the Antikristo truly stood out. The meat was tender, juicy, and bursting with rich flavors. The restaurant has a partially open kitchen, allowing diners to see the meat roasting slowly. The Gemista was also delightful; it tasted fresh and featured a combination of tender vegetables and flavorful rice fillings. When we asked for the bill, we were pleasantly surprised to receive fresh fruit, dessert, and traditional Raki. Don’t miss out on trying the Raki! Last but not the least, the staff was polite and professional. If you’re planning a visit, consider booking a table in advance, as it gets busy very quickly. We would definitely visit again if we find ourselves in the area.

We searched for the best greek salad on the internet. We have found this place. We ordered a lamb main dish and a greek salad. Both of the plates were fine. But I think the taste is ordinary. The tomatoes in the salad should be in better quality. It did not have a premium taste. Just ordinary tomato. Or the lamb was over cooked. It was hard to chew. Overall, the food was not that bad but for 36 euros (salad+lamb+2 soft drinks) I expected better.

Good value hotel! The location is convenient, just a 5-minute walk from the center and 15 minutes from the square where you can catch the airport bus. The room is comfortable and includes a fridge and air conditioning, which is a nice touch. The bathroom, however, is quite small. Overall, it’s a great choice if you’re traveling for a few days!

Lovely hotel. The breakfast was really good and the staff were very kind and helpful. The hotel is a short 20 ish walk from the harbour and about 5 min from lots of restaurants/shopping. The rooms were clean too.

I have nothing negative to say about this restaurant. The service is excellent, and the staff is polite, attentive, and knowledgeable. The food is absolutely outstanding. We tried dakos, beef tartare, gnocchi with cheese, and Iberico – each dish better than the last. 🤤 The portions aren’t too large, but with an appetizer and a main course, you’ll be perfectly satisfied. We also had a bottle of wine. 🍾🥂 And of course, a rakhi on the house. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant – you definitely won’t regret it. Also, definitely book a table. It gets very busy. Bravo!☺️

We left the main street, looking for a restaurant for lunch. What we found was this amazing place. A very beautiful ambience, extrem friendly service and delicious food, based on the Cretan cuisine. Absolutely delicious! Great service, food and atmosphere. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a different experience from most restaurants in town. A different twist. I can't recommend this place enough! We went with our family and had heard great things and were not disappointed. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was perfect - hidden away a bit, off the main road and perfect for something different. It's not cheap, but we'll worth the prices. Add it to your list for a special evening in Heraklion.

Nice hotel in the very center of Herakleio. It may tick the boxes for a five star hotel, but it doesn't feel like one. Room had a great view, was clean & tidy but was a bit strangely decorated, with a tiny WC and the glass covered shower + sink right next to the comfy bed, which came as a surprise. Reception of the hotel was super small (unlikely for 5* hotels). Table serviced breakfast (no buffet) had fair options but also felt somehow strange, as bacon & sausages with the egg came cold - probably cooked much earlier, pancake was burnt and there was no espresso or instant coffee available as the barista was not there and the waiter could not make a coffee (it was about 8am).

Me and my boyfriend had an amazing stay at this hotel. We were there for four nights, and the staff were always so friendly and helpful. Very special shout out to Nikos on the reception - for the very best food recommendations ever! He made our trip very special. Very close to Heraklion museum and local buses to Knossos, so perfect for us. The breakfast was great, the room was lovely, spacious and fully accessible. Lots of great food and drink options in the mini bar and they offered discounts at local restaurants too.

We travel the world and always book at 5 star locations. What exceeded the 5 stars at this hotel was the SERVICE. The entire staff wore smiles during our stay and aimed to please. Special honors to Chara and Makes who really stood out and made sure we were well cared for. The location was perfect and accessible to everything we desired to see. The breakfast had every group covered. We were in an upgraded room which was also perfect!

The location couldn’t be better: just a short walk to the Heraklion Museum and local buses to Knossos, with a taxi station right across the street and the central bus station within walking distance, making it ideal for exploring the area. Breakfast was a real highlight, offering fresh food, fruit, yoghurt, and eggs cooked to your preference. On two early excursion days, the team kindly prepared generous lunch bags to keep us fuelled while out and about. Our room was spacious, beautifully appointed, and fully accessible, complete with a balcony that offered stunning views over the city and harbour. We found this hotel by referral from another hotel that was overbooked, how lucky we were! This hotel is conveniently located in the city, close to restaurants, shopping and especial to the Archeological Museum, which is only a very short walk away. The room is very clean and comfortable, the breakfast was delicious. And the service was excellent, especially the receptionist Anastasia, She is the best! Every time you walk in the door, she greets you cheerfully with that big smile on her beautiful face. On our arrival, she took a map out and circled all the interesting places, and gave very detailed information and directions. We came across some difficulties in printing out the boat tickets the night before we leave, and she worked so hard and tried everything she could to help us. It was late and her shift was ending soon, but she kept comforting us while working out the solutions. We were very impressed by her and the hotel, we will defiantly stay here again next time we are in town.

Located in the center of Heraklion this hotel is the epitome of Greek hospitality. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and shown directly into our room. The room was clean, luxurious, spacious. Overall everything we were looking for with breathtaking views of the Port and the beautiful colours of the sunset. Everyone in the hotel made us feel at home and nothing was too much for them. Excellent breakfast, with local delicacies served daily from 7am till 11am.

What a wonderful hotel! As soon as we arrived we were greeted with a refreshing drink. Staff was amazing and attentive. The room was impressive- clean, comfortable, and the shower was amazing! Close to shopping and restaurants.

The food was good, we loved our lamb chops and pita with beef souvlaki. The portion was quite huge. The croquette was okay, but so impressed with the taste of it. Otherwise this place is a standard place in the tourist area. The price is ok.

Only negative thing here is too many mosquitos while we’re eating. Had to keep swaying our hands while eating to keep them away from food. Two of us girls ordered 30+ euros for 2 plates of meat ( 1/2 plate of mixed pork&chicken, 1 plate of lamb) and 1 yogurt, one sweets (honeyed fried crispy meatball?) The food is good. Lamb not as good as we had in Athens. But the service is good all waiters speak very nice English

October 2025: we got here because we asked where is the best gyro sandwich. It was next door and closed on wed. So this one was second best. It closed one was called Thraka. So here is a review to the Thraka alternative. The best product here is a gyro sandwich. Different sizes we got the soft pita which was ton of chicken and ton of fries in the sandwich. You have to share this one. After dropping the excess fries and egyro meat, you can finally handle the sandwich. Perfect seasoning. Not too strong for the chicken meat and Krispy macdonalds looking fries. 10/10 for the pita sandwich. We also got Mac and cheese sticks. Fried to perfection but no taste. Also some Greek dessert looks like little desks filled with cream and honey on top. That was great. At the end it's all fried finger food low quality looking grilled meats type of menu. It's a fast food authentic Greek restaurant. So stick with pita sandwich only here. Service was ok friendly and polite. With the older gentleman also standing Infront of the seating area like a maestro. But this one was more suddle than the one in kirkor the famous bougatsa place yelling at the workers. That was stressing is out. Place was clean.

The food was delicious and the portions HUGE! We had the giant pita with chicken gyros (which was indeed the biggest one I’ve ever had, even tho I ordered it without fries) and the chicken gyros in a bread loaf. The waiter was very nice as well - definitely a recommendation, especially to those with a big stomach/appetite!

We stumbled upon this place by accident on our first day in Heraklion, and what a great find! The food is truly traditional and absolutely delicious – the gyros and souvlaki were outstanding. Prices are very reasonable, and the atmosphere is casual and welcoming. We loved it so much that we made a special trip back to Heraklion just to eat here again. Highly recommended!

Food and service were amazing that we came here twice during our holiday. The gyros portion were very tasty and portion size very good for the price. Would definitely recommend. (looking for Halal info? - read the end! ) Food was very good (Vegetarian options) But, very very busy so the service was very slow difficult and delayed This is NOT fast food. Waited 31 minutes between order and food arriving. Most people had same problem, but also people were served in random order- catch the waiters attention if you want served first. If you are on sitting on the outside of the tables there are a LOT of pigeons flying around (I didn't mind though) Tables are very tightly packed and crowded. HALAL ? I asked, they said beef and chicken is halal. I have no evidence to know if this is true or not. I get the impression not. What I can say is that they use the same utensils and preparation area for the chicken, lamb and PORK, so for this reason I'd say all meat is definitely NOT halal. There are plenty veg options though. Just for those who wanted to know. Place- passable Service- very slow Food- delicious

We came here to eat souvlaki with the suggestion of our hotel. We ordered chicken gyros and kebab gyros. Kebab meat was so tasty. In my opinion, chicken gyros was the best. Chicken was marinated with oregano. It really tastes homemade not artificial döner like in Germany. In addition, I believe all Greek restaurants do not use ready fries. They prepare themselves. Because when you eat you can feel that it’s homemade like your mom’s home. Prices was really good because portions were really big. We come also here later another time to eat chicken gyros plate. It was really hard to finish but so tasty. I also leave the prices on down for those who wonders. Kebab souvlaki: 2,8 Euro Chicken Gyros: 3,6 Euro Chicken Gyros Plate: 8,6 Euro Soft drinks: 1,5 euro

Absolutely unbelievable. I’ve been all over Europe, and this is without a shadow of a doubt one of the 3 best pizzas I’ve ever eaten. I chose the Pesto pizza (vegetarian friendly) for €7, and my god it doesn’t disappoint. Friendly staff, highly highly recommend for anybody on their travels! I enjoyed it so much, I’m writing this review right after eating as I’m waiting to pay.

Original Italian restaurant! The pizza was very good, although they were out of basil - which was quite a let down. The bill was a bit inflated and unexpectedly so; I'm guessing it was either the couvert or the liqueur that we were offered afterwards. Unpleasant surprise anyway. The staff was friendly.

I was here with my wife during our honeymoon. The staff and owners were very kind and the whole atmosphere really made you feel at home. The food was great and the dishes authentically Italian. We will definitely come back if we visit Heraklion again. Highly recommended!

This is a safe bet if you're in the centre of Heraklion and want a solid family meal. Burgers, pitas, pizzas, pasta, salads all on offer with table service and a few tables outside. Prices are reasonable and you'll spend about 10 to 15 euros each with a decent dinner and a drink. I've always enjoyed the burgers here which are large and tasty.

I'm so disappointed. It used to be one of my go-to places for pizza, but this time, we ordered two pizzas—one was burnt and in very bad shape, and the other wasn’t that good. I hope they don’t repeat this disappointing experience. 😞 and the order was late additionally.

Delly's is one of Heraklion's more popular restaurants. However, if there is one thing certain, they should never try to cook either hamburgers or hotdogs. It is a customary mistake for many Greek restaurants to try and smother out the lack of taste in a cheap cut of meet with either sauces or ketchup and mustard. In Delly's' case, wrapping said meat in a half a pound of unnecessary bread makes these comfort foods filling, if not satisfying (or correct). I know, it's a bad review (but a generous one) from an American who is pretty much made out of burgers and dogs from birth, but maybe it's a good lesson. If you cannot make something amazing, do not put it on your menu. This is from a former food and beverage manager (decades ago). Do not expect the perfect burger or hotdog here. The photo is of "part" of the excess bread, ketchup, mustard, and whole pickle slices that camouflaged a cheap sausage.

Had a huge burger. It was okay. Not the best one I ever had. Maybe 6 or 7 out of 10. If this was the first burger in my life I would be blown away, but unfortunately it was not ... Fries were fine. Staff was super helpful.

Amazing service with a smile on their faces. One of the biggest advantages of this place is the prices and portions of food. We didn't expect such big portions! We got our food in less than 10 minutes. Free toilet here was a relief after hours of walking. I can happily recommend this place to anyone who visits Heraklion! :))

We visited this restaurant in Heraklion twice—first with family for lunch and then again with just my husband and our son—and both times were fantastic! The food is amazing. We had salads, pasta, and pizza, and everything was fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. If you’re not too hungry, it’s definitely a good idea to share! The staff were super friendly, the service was excellent, and the bathrooms were very clean—which is always a big plus when dining out. But what really makes this place a winner for us are two things: 1. The desserts! As is tradition in Greece, they offer a sweet treat on the house at the end of your meal—but here they go above and beyond. You get a proper-sized waffle with chocolate and ice cream, and if you’re a larger group, they’ll also bring a delicious slice of cheesecake. Who doesn’t love a good surprise dessert? 2. It’s the perfect spot for families with young kids. They have a designated play area with trained staff to look after the children, so you can enjoy your meal in peace while the kids have fun. You really can’t beat that! If you’re in the Heraklion area, this place is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be going back next time we’re in town!

Absolutely breathtaking! The food is very well and neatly prepared, reasonably priced, and the staff is the best! After they saw us struggling to finish our food that we loved! Gave us great recommendations, and everyone was friendly. So many families were hanging out making use of the child playground. We loved it!!!
