The 20 best bars and drinks in Mijas Pueblo

I want to preface this by saying that most restaurants in Mijas seem overpriced compared to other towns / cities we recently visited (Sevilla, Granada, Jerez) it seems most of the restaurants in Mija is catered to tourists and therefore we anticipated poor price to quality proposition. The food here was pretentious with small portions. We didn't see any locals at this restaurant. Ordered 3 tapas and drinks. The cod fritters were more dough than fish. It was beautifully presented but tiny and didn't have any fish inside. This was the most disappointing dish. Skirt steak mini burger was juicy and nicely cooked. Pork sausage mini burger was average. Nice touch with complimentary sweet liquor. Staffs were very friendly and nice. Unfortunately a disappointing meal for us and we left to find more food elsewhere.

I stopped in for a light lunch in between appointments in town. The staff were lovely, welcoming, and on top of things. The food was delicious. I enjoyed a nice rose. There were more than a few tourists..who lacked the finesse of an indoor voice but it is the beginning of the season here. All in all - it was a very nice lunch in town.

It’s not traditional Spanish taps though, the flavour is pretty good overall. It was lovely experience to have dinner with sunsets 🌅

Food was absolutely incredible, the staff are so attentive and welcoming and the ambience sitting on the streets of Mijas is unmatched. Definitely pre-book and didn’t see many walk-ins get a table, only a few inside. Recommend the meatballs!

Me and my boyfriend have been here every year since 2023 and we are always so happy with the food, service, everything. We also brought our family and friends along and they absolutely loved it😍 This time they really made something extra, we went here to celebrate my birthday and they came with some awesome cake and singing “happy birthday” to my without even charging for the cake🥹 super good food for a really cheep price, the service is always 10/10. You need to visit this restaurant.

Perfect Spanish meal, very good with distinct flavours from the tapas that we didn't found around. Smiling and kind waitresses. My fiancé loved the guacamole and the patatas bravas. I love the iberican jamon

Shouldn’t really be writing this review as making another reservation may be easier. The less people know the better, but to be fair to Vicky, her Papa, Alex and all the other staff, I have to say this place is absolutely amazing marvellous phenomenal and any other superlative you care to mention. The tapas, wines, services, and atmosphere is not bettered anywhere in Mijas Pueblo. Brilliant

We were honored to be the first participants in the "Date with Dubai" workshop, a truly one-of-a-kind experience. Led by Sara, whose warmth, humor, and attentiveness made the session extra special, the workshop was informative, hands-on, and engaging for both kids and adults. It wasn't just an activity—it was an adventure that allowed us to dive into the world of chocolate making while having tons of fun. This place is an absolute must visit. We did the 15 min chocolate experience with our 4 year old and 1 year old daughters. We all had a ball and all of the staff were so friendly. Afterwards we got a coffee which is roasted in house and some ice cream which is absolute incredible - also made in house. If you're in Mijas or even surrounding areas, this is well worth a trip! You get to choose your own ingredients, pour the chocolate yourself, and take home your custom-made creations (which, by the way, taste amazing 🍫!). The staff were not only professional but also incredibly engaging and kind. They made everyone feel included and excited. We learned a lot, laughed a lot, and – of course – ate a lot of chocolate! An absolutely fantastic place! Making your own piece of chocolate was such a fun and unique experience. Adrian was incredibly kind and helpful throughout the workshop, and his way of working with children is truly amazing. He managed to connect with my daughter despite the language barrier. Truly a magical experience – probably a magician himself!

We had such a wonderful experience here, the chocolate factory is perfect for both adults and children. There is a massive selection of toppings suited to all tastes, the experience is great too - you get to dispense your selected chocolate choice into a mould and decorate as you please, Adrián in the workshop is so friendly and funny and made our experience really awesome. It only took around 15 minutes for our chocolate to set and get packaged, so we enjoyed probably the nicest ice cream I’ve ever tasted downstairs while we waited, which not only has amazing flavour but also great value. We will definitely make Mayan Monkeys a regular choice when we come back to Spain!

A very picturesque place to stop for refreshments and a photo of the blue chairs against the white walled background and hanging plant pots. I feel that the place has lost its friendliness over the last couple of years and the staff aren't as attentive. My Spanish is not great but a caña de cerveza is definitely not a pinta, and could definitely not be confused with una botella de agua which is what I got instead of a small beer. (Maybe they thought I looked thirsty) It's still a very popular place though and seats are hard to get during popular times in tourist season.

Average food. Nothing special really. The waitress gave one menu for 2 people and after 2 minutes she came back to take the order. Seriously? Fame must be more for the location than the food. As you can see, it’s a great spot for photos. Anyway, I don’t recommend. You can find better places.

Everything was delicious, simple dishes but sooo tasty. Very cute location with the pop of blue outside.

Cute cafe restaurant with delicious little bocadillos, we stopped by twice to take a break from climbing right down the road. It’s shaded up until around early afternoon, which makes it a great spot for late breakfast before the heat picks up.

The initial staff approach before we were seated was slightly odd. However, it then improved a lot . The garden is truly lovely. The food was decent. I was a bit sad they run out of the bbq mix (it was only 13:30). The beef flank I ordered was then a bit dry. The beef filets we had were delicious though as well as the sea bass. The jacket potatoes are a nice touch. I would prefer to have a choice on the filling. The herb mayo was decent but not my favourite.

This is an OUTSTANDING restaurant. It should have a far better rating than this in my opinion, I can only think because its a little more on the expensive side, catering for tourists over locals perhaps? All of the meat and fish dishes we had were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The goats cheese starter was incredible. I found my favourite wine here! The secret garden is such a beautiful spot to eat or drink, we ending up coming twice within a few days. It was not "busy" mid May. Staff attentive and friendly. Good varied menu. Great range of drinks and cocktails.

The Secret Garden is amazing! The food was full of flavor, the vibe was super cozy, and they’ve got great choices for kids. Perfect spot for families or just a relaxed family lunch. We will come back to have a night out as well.

A hidden gem! Lovely atmosphere and great food Really nice atmosphere - a spacious garden round the back with great seating, lovely lighting and good food. We had the gazpacho, goats cheese and green pepper starters. Then we had the beef, truffle burger, and sea bass. Don’t forget the desserts - really nice tiramisu, lemon pie, pistachio cheesecake and carrot cake.

So very wry disappointing such a great setting should be 5 star all the way but unfortunately not. First the atmosphere is terrible so flat and dead ( idea for owner manager a guy plays Santorini’s in los boliches ever Friday night pay him any amount to living up your place )only music came from a tapas bar around the corner from you looked fabulous on or way home would rather go there next time Next the food was very poor I got baby lamb shank it was barley warm sent it back to re heat could see Chef was not happy sent it back with no sauce and dry as a bone Second and last time here think you live on location, looks amazing but so very very poor

It is a true wonder and the ambiance is so nice and beautiful. We had no reservation and they made us a space available and it was amazing. We loved every second of it.

We were eating two times at this place. Both times was a great success. First visit we ordered 5 tapas and 3 main courses for 5 people. The food was great, only "but" we ordered too much food. Second time we ordered 3 tapas and two main dishes. Great. The service is super. Both ladies smiling while serving the 10+ tables. The kitchen is small, but the food they is superb. The menu is not big, but we could find new dishes both times. Advise book your table early in the day.

The most tender chicken I’ve ever had—in a Caesar salad, no less! The croquettes, pork, and prawns were equally delicious.

Ate here 3 nights over 5 days. Had different courses each night and literally could not fault one thing. Every bite of every dish on each night was amazing. Highlights for us were the tomato and tuna salad, the patatas bravas and the chick peas! Highly recommended, and we will be back when we are next in Mijas. Oh, the service was brilliant too! ❤️

Really nice restaurant with lovely staff. Our waiter was Fernando and he was a really nice guy. The El Diablo dog was the nicest hot dog I've had in my life. Good value too. Highly recommend.

It's exactly the kind of local independent restaurant you'd think should cook straight to your heart. But sadly, they struggle with consistency. We came at 7:00 PM as they opened and ordered potatoes, croquettes, ribs, entrecôte, and asparagus salad.The croquettes were excellent. However, the asparagus salad consisted of just two green asparagus and two red onions. Apparently they didn't have enough asparagus and improvised, so we received these half-seared and half-raw onions instead.The ribs were tasty, though unfortunately the BBQ sauce was more like upscale ketchup and lacked any real seasoning. Finally came the entrecôte, which was so tough that it was the first steak I've ever had to send back to kitchen. I must say they did remove it from the final bill. The service gave their best.

Lovely little tapas bar. Our server (lady with red hair) was very kind and helped us with our Spanish. We got white Sangria which was lovely. The guacamole that came with the nachos was delicious. Overall very good value for money! Would come back again :) (Is cash only be aware)

Came here for the view however the food tasted amazing and the service was too class! Despite only knowing one word in Spanish the staff tried their best with English which I can appreciate is probably not what they want but they did make us feel extremely welcome! Value is very good and food tastes amazing for the price! I would definitely recommend here plus the view was amazing! It's empty in the pictures due to the high winds and poor weather being similar to England

Food is wonderful, service is always with a smile, We are repeat annual visitors who come for the taste. Chicken Roquefort, chorizo in red wine sauce, and meatballs in curried sauce are always high on our list. Can't fault any of the dishes we've ever ordered and we usually order up to a dozen between 4 which is enough to fill the table. Those not driving also enjoy the cocktails and they will make them without alcohol if you want. Mijas gets very hot so ensure you organise a table in shade and then you're set for an hour or so of tasty tapas and drinks. Don't be put off by the lack of scenic view from your seat since the food is the attraction. It's also great value - bring cash not back card, there's cashpoints nearby.

A very popular restaurant in the heart of Mijas - and for very good reasons. It has a wide variety of options on the menu and they’re all very good. A recommendation is the ribs, although I must say the size of the portion could be bigger. Service is quite good. Be sure to reserve ahead since especially in summer this place is busy and many people are denied a table every night.

Surprised to find such good quality food and service in the centre of the tourist spot (bus stop outside), but we were warmly welcomed and sat indoors. Great choice menu and tapas selection. Waiters were friendly. Our salads were plentiful and tasty

Visited the town, very relaxing and we stopped here for a quick bite to eat. We ordered Oxtail croquettes with goat cheese and prawns and rice with masala sauce. The prawns with the crispy rice on the outside and soft on the inside was really good. The oxtail initially was good but then it took on the same texture plus the seasoning could have been better. The goat cheese was ok but over powered the meat flavor. However all other dishes that I saw looked good so I be back to evaluate more. Service was pleasant and efficient.

The happiest restaurant and the best food we’ve ever tasted. Cannot recommend this place enough the staff are the friendliest, kindest and most welcoming people. The food is amazing every mouthful is like an explosion of taste in your mouth. Can’t wait to go back.

The portion sizes are just right and everything is top quality ingredients - also the prices are very reasonable . Would actually give this 6 Stars if I could - can’t wait to return!

In my opinion the best restaurant in Mijas. The service is outstanding and the variety of choices fantastic. I have been here with groups many times and have not been dissatisfied once. Just the opposite. It keeps evolving over the times and I am happy to be a repeating client. As it is important to satisfy my clients this is a no brainer. Thanks for the continued satisfaction. Came here for my 40th Bday. Very nice dinner and experience! Tiny details here and there that would have suited my taste slightly more but all in all an amazing place to be at! Prawns tartar as starter and probably best cheesecake we have ever eaten in Spain. Big thumbs up!

Surprisingly good food , would definitely go again

Amazing tapas menu. Every dish was packed with flavor and special in its own way. From meatballs to pork sandwich, or black pudding, all were great dishes. The staff was very nice and friendly. The restaurant had an outdoor heating which made sitting outside a lovely experience in the autumn days. I would definitely come again.

I’ve tasted garlic bread and now, cold soup. Cold. Soup. It’s the future. We toured the Pueblo a couple of weeks ago in our JBA Falcon. Made a video and posted on a well known video channel. Links are not allowed here, but should be an easy search.

Lovely lunch. Great salad, delicious hake and shrimp fritters, calamari and aubergine with honey. The desert cakes are great too! Good service, very reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

Outstanding. The food was incredible and portions large. The calamari was outstanding and the gambas pil pil excellent too. Our kids shared an Iberico Secreto pork steak and loved it. Prices were reasonable for the quality and portion sizes.

We sadly had a meal to forget here. The service was nice & the location ok but we went for the menu of the day. We can’t comment on the normal menu. We couldn’t finish the starter & I left the main part of the main meal. As you can see it’s egg & chips but the meal makes you believe you’re ordering aubergine. We are big foodies & cautious in these times about reviews but this was a moment to forget. I truly believe the chef must have been off or there was a problem.

I've had breakfast here for 3 days and each time it makes me smile to see the locals with their coffees and brandy before the tourists arrive. It isn't the smartest place, but the coffee is good the older waiter is funny if only for his patience with me and my terrible spanish. What I like most is that coffee is 2€ and everything happens when they are ready. This is to my mind exactly what Spain is all about. If you want white washed furniture, Instagram and sharp lines, go somewhere else. This is unashamedly a traditional Spanish bar and proud of it. PS the pan y tomatoes with oil is lovely

New owner and new menu this year. Very good food now. Very reasonable prices, both for food and drinks, compared to other restaurants in Mijas Pueblo. The waiters are very nice. I had a problem with one of them earlier, but I think and hope, that problem has been resolved after a conversation with Simon, the owner. Well worth a visit.

We ordered the mixed fish platter and grilled prawns, and it was an awful experience. The food tasted off, almost like the fish wasn’t fresh, leaving us feeling uneasy for the rest of the evening. We couldn’t even finish it—it just didn’t taste right. For €50, including coffee, it was money completely wasted. If you value your hard-earned cash, avoid this place. Absolutely not worth it.

I kinda feel robbed of the money we spent considering the low level of food we got served. The main question is, have they actually got a chef in the kitchen or is it just someone giving it a try, but failing?

Love The Lemon Tree! Thoroughly enjoyed my visit, great cappuccino to start, sunny terrace, good value menu with quality food. Craig came out and said hello to myself and other customers, and the waiting staff were friendly and helpful. It’s located on the Plaza in the corner next to the colourful steps that everyone loves to get a photo of, so plenty of people watching to enjoy. Popular place all throughout the day, so reservations recommended xx

We had a good meal, good service, and a good explanation on why we could not have what we came for. Nice to see a chef dressed like a chef, and all other staff dressed appropriately and very pleasant to deal with. Over all very good.

We decided to eat at the Lemon Tree because a friend recommended it to us. I'm so pleased we did. The food was so tasty and the owner and staff members were so friendly and welcoming. It's a must to go to when visiting Mijas.

We ate at this cafe on a cold rainy day and it was just what we needed. I had a Jacket potato with cheese and beans. It was the best Jacket potato I've ever had. It was huge and steaming hot, so soft. It was so hot the cheese was melting on it. Owners and staff lovely, service great. Beautiful little cafe in a beautiful location in the corner of the square. Would highly recommend it 👌

Went to this restaurant once for lunch and twice for dinner and the food, service was excellent. Tapas at lunchtime, we had the nachos delicious, dinner great selection of food and very very tasty. If you find yourself in Mijas Pueblo go here.

Have just had a terrible experience at the restaurant been coming yearly for many years . Calamari was overcooked but we could let that go because the star dish of seafood paella was to come. Another disappointment looked like a puddle in paella pan with two grilled large prawns floating around. Very like a very wet risotto. I did complain but was told it must be a one off. If the staff had any pride they would never have presented dish to customer.

More than fine, but nothing exceptional – rather touristy. The menu does feature Spanish classics. Prices are high by Spanish standards, though probably normal for Mijas Pueblo. The flavours were okay; I’ve eaten worse in many places but also much better elsewhere. The service felt a little awkward at times, but it was attentive.

Don’t ask for much when just ordering a beer and a cider but this experience was not a good one. The waiter was obviously having an extremely bad day but he let it make its way to the customers, tried so hard to make him crack a smile with my fantastic attempts at Spanish but no luck… also I asked for tap water and he gave us bottle water

Great experience. Don’t get fooled by the «tapas available mondays and wednesday», you can still order the slightly bigger «raciones». Recommend the fried aubergines. Potatoe tart was basically just a vertical farmers omelette, but taste-wise good. Excellent staff and really nice sitting out on the street. Great view up Calle San Sebastian to the top of the mountain

I love this place, great staff, Pepe very helpful, nice bloke too, food is great, friendly atmosphere, a pleasure to eat there, and it's dead handy, especially if you stay at TRH hotel just across the road like I do. Being a solo traveller I don't have to buy for others, and I don't have the cheapest meal on the menu, so £30 + (including a bottle of the excellent house red) just for me is fine, it's quality food in my opinion. Inside it's nice and cosy, larger outside seating area, with the BBQ, also has a bar attached, so one stop shop really. Should have taken more photos of the food on previous visits, will do better next time! Cannot recommend enough, looking forward to my next visit in July.

Just visited this place and the staff were lovely and very helpful and the house white was delicious and excellent value. I had the Iberian pork strips from the barbecue, which were tough and uninspiring. We also had the barbecue chicken kebab, which was dry and underwhelming. In summary, nice staff; less than good food.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant. Always make time to come here when we’re in Spain. The prawns with peppers are so nice, best way I’ve ever had prawns served. Wood fired barbecued meat is cooked to perfection. Staff are really friendly and happy and always welcoming. Don’t miss out. Simply put bloody lovely.

Superb restaurant, fantastic service, fresh dishes, lots of choices and great for the little ones too, really enjoyed sitting outside enjoying the food and drinks here, excellent atmosphere and tasty food, prices are brilliant compared to the centre of mijas, we read the previous reviews and it is definitely a must if you visit mijas, 10/10 we will be back! recommend trying the specials, tuna steak was amazing!

Visited for my brother in law's 60th birthday lunch. Nice big table set up for us all with the birthday boy facing us. Very attentive waiters getting everyone drinks. Menu nice, translated to English. Shame no BBQ food on at that time of year. I got the chicken with a mustard sauce. it was delicious, I would've liked more mustard flavour but maybe that's just my preference. Everyone at our table enjoyed their food. Saw a massive steak, nice eggs for the vegetarians, pork. We got some lovely starters too, pil pil prawns, bread rolls, croquettes, artichokes, olives, caprese salad. Staff lovely and funny. Made him a special birthday cake, which was delicious, like kinder tiramisu, soft and fluffy sponge. Would definitely go back.

Such a cosy atmospheric pub with lots of character. We just had drinks but food at other tables looked absolutely delicious. Wines were good, service great, all in all a super place. We will return!!

We have frequented this fabulous lively bar a number of times over the years. There is a wonderful patio area and restaurant upstairs meaning it's a much bigger establishment than the frontage suggests. Drink measures and prices are reasonable. I nearly down rated it to 3 stars because they blatantly give little bowls of nuts to their local customer but not the tourists and it is very obvious. Maybe they don't want visitors and are happy with just their local regular customers.

Great atmosphere and vibe in the garden hidden in the back of the restaurant. Staff were very welcoming and accommodating. Would definitely recommend when visiting Mijas for an enjoyable meal and evening.

Absolutely lovely bar in a picturesque location of Mijas! We ordered food that was perfect and a very generous portion. My husband said the prawns were so fresh! The service was so friendly. We highly recommend.

What a gem of a place, staff lovely, drink prices cheaper than others, food exceptional, live music and frequented by locals (always a good sign), people dancing in the street. One of our faves on holiday and definitely coming back in future.

Our new favourite in Mijas since our old favourite closed down during Covid. Great little bar with a nice upstairs seating and view. The view is not as good as the ones in centre of Mijas but the food is great. Simple, honest local cooking. Service is attentive yet very "Spanish". Great atmosphere if you prefer local bars. Been here twice and never disappointed.

Waiter was rude. He got sit us to different chair for two, even when the place was empty in second flor into the corner instead of nice view. (We came quite late for lunch) We asked for drink list with price. He refused to bring us that and did not explain what drinks do they have and he was very arrogant that we don’t know some local specific drink names. The pasta was slightly undercooked, but the taste was good. The price was reasonable, but the experience would have been much better with a drinks menu and more respectful behavior toward tourists. I do not recommend this place for visitors — it was supposed to be a nice end to our trip in beautiful Mijas, but unfortunately, we didn’t have a great time.

A regular here for many years. Never disappointed. Juan and his team are always friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. The menu is authentic Spanish sensibly priced but I recommend booking at peak times.

What an excellent find. We asked the tourism office for recommendations where locals would go and very quietly (he did not want to appear to favour any one restaurant), he gave us a few suggestions with El Nino being his favourite. We had the very reasonable 9Euro lunch with appetizer (bread soup or tomato salad), a main dish and a simple dessert. With a cold beer on a hot day, it was perfect. The pictures speak for themselves. BTW, it's on the outskirts of town and a bit hard to find but worth it.

Great bar at the end of the village on calle coin. Excellent tapas on offer with a small beer and tapa on offer for €1.60.

A local lovely place with nice friendly staffs. I brought two friends here for some coffees and all of them want to come back here again. It's also a good place to have dinner with family and friends. There could be a struggle in finding place to park the car on the busy night. Make sure you plan the trip ahead and check up before coming in.

Good location and a great selection of wines to see and buy. The restaurant was another matter. We were shown to the back terrace, very quiet and comfortable, accompanied at another table by some discerning French Canadians, and the service was good until the arrival of a bunch of tourists doing the "ruta de la tapa" a Town Hall and local business initiative throughout July and August where tourists "do" a selection of bars and restaurants in Mijas, one after the other, eating a tapa and drinking a glass of wine (or more) at selected locations, the Museo del vino obviously being one of them. The waiter had to constantly run after the "tapa" tourists, trying to get through to the terrace, to tell them the restaurant area was out of bounds. Service was virtually forgotten for the table guests as the tapa tourists were served their booze and cheapo tapa before moving on ! Soldiering on through the evening I tried the Crujiente de Cochinillo that was nothing more than a compressed piece of pork reheated (Candido would be turning in his grave). My partner had a piece of salmon that was nothing special. Steam cooked with some "cava" sauce on top. No one could suggest any good wines by the glass; the wine by the glass was more a question of what they had left in a bottle than a "real" suggestion to accompany a dish. The height of sloppiness was the dessert, hailed as an iced dessert, two flavours; it was nothing more than 6 spoons of chocolate mousse of which two had a strawberry jam dollop on the top. This restaurant, as do may other on the coast, need to know where they want to be positioned. There are far better tapas bars in Mijas than this Vinotheque trying to add full restauraunt service to a wine and tapas "theme". Best avoid during July and August until after the "ruta de la tapa".

Had their wine menu with 3 wines and 3 tapa. It's really good value and the service is excellent, the host was very friendly and served tasters of wine in the bar afterwards, when we wanted to buy a few bottles 😊

Great wine and authentic Spanish tapas, excellent manchego and chorizo! Highly recommend to have a table in the garden.

Ruta de la tapa 2018. If someone in Spain can make me connect with my homeland serving a beef stew with chips, we have a winner.

What a pleasant surprise to find a very friendly atmosphere and staff at this restaurant. We have been traveling from the US for a few days and came upon this lovely restaurant. Excellent service, very elaborate menu with a great selection of dishes. Everyone in our group ordered a different dish and everything was excellent. Will return again soon, but in the meantime give this our 5 star rating for service, atmosphere, presentation and taste. Thank you for the experience eating here.

We ordered the grill platter for 2 - it’s an absolute horrible dish. I see the restaurant has other fine recommendations. It’s not for this dish I’m sure - my recommendation is to take it off the menu. The location is good, beers cold and staff is friendly- so 2 ⭐

Bar Restaurante La Plaza in Mijas Pueblo is a fantastic spot to savour authentic Spanish cuisine in a charming setting. Situated in the town’s main square, it features a lovely outdoor terrace that’s ideal for watching the world go by. The dishes are consistently fresh and full of flavour, and the new barbecue section is definitely worth trying. The menu offers a wide variety, with options to suit every taste. The service is excellent, with warm and welcoming staff who make you feel right at home. A perfect place to enjoy a laid-back meal in the heart of Mijas Pueblo.

Right in the heart of the main square there is loads of choice but this place was excellent. Fantastic freshly made seafood paella, great burgers and lovely desserts. We sat for a good few hours in the sun enjoying the food, drinks and atmosphere. Very friendly and helpful staff - especially Maxi and Tony!

We went here the first day of our trip with friends. The food was pretty good, but not the best we had. The most expensive meal we had the whole trip (and that was without drinks and including a trip to a steakhouse). Would recommend finding other local restaurants around the corner!

Wonderful beer and a cracking paella served by some super friendly staff that spoke good English and were still gracious enough to indulge my fledgling Spanish mumblings. Come here, you will love it.
