Brecon Mountain Railway offers a classic steam engine journey with observation carriages, providing visitors with the chance to explore the workshop and enjoy picturesque lake views. The railway, located in Merthyr Tydfil, was established over 40 years ago and operates on a route that takes passengers through the breathtaking Brecon Beacons National Park. The journey includes stops at Pontsticill and along the Taf Fechan Reservoir before reaching Torpantau high in the Brecon Beacons.
The train trip was very nice despite a couple of showers. The walk near the station up to a viewing point I’m picking the carrier. It’s very nice. We got some lovely blackberries! We also had the afternoon tea which was very good in fact I would say it is better than what you get at the Celtic Manor very balance between sandwiches and cakes.

Had a great trip on the Brecon Mountain Railway, the views were really spectacular, with plenty of opportunities to take some stunning photos. It was our second visit, having been last year too and we were just as excited this time. My husband is a retired railway engineer so it was right up his street. We decided to treat ourselves to a cream tea in their cafe this time and it was delicious, you do have to pre book this though. As well as the lovely cafe, there is a shop to explore with many train related items and souvenirs to purchase. You can also take a look in the train shed too which has various engines and parts stripped down being worked on. I would highly recommend a day out here and more than likely we will be back to enjoy again in the future!

A lovely morning trip on this historic steam train 🚂 Lovely large windows and beautiful wooden curved slatted seats. They were comfy too. Nice to be on a proper old steam train. I live about 40 minutes away from here. Don’t know why I haven’t visited before! The information commentary given to us during the journey could have been louder. We only caught bits of the info whilst straining our ears. Steve, the guard I think he was, was a lovely guy. Helpful, knowledgeable and humerus. A great asset to the team. All the staff are polite and helpful. Good views during the journey. Back at the station at Pant we had a fabulous Afternoon Tea. Absolutely super! I would recommend this train 🚂 trip and the tea to everyone.

It was a phenomenal ride! Loved the atmosphere at the station, staff was great, trains are amazing and looked after with lots of love and care. I enjoyed the workshop and standing on the outside on a moving train the most! Oh and chocolate cake was just brilliant! Definitely recommend and will come back 😊

My parents and I had an incredible experience at Brecon Mountain Railway yesterday. We had two afternoon teas which were outstanding - the presentation, taste of everything and amount of food! The staff were all wonderful and couldn't have helped any more than they did. My father is disabled and he was looked after so well, both in the cafe and also on the train. There is also a lovely little gift shop with something for everyone! The train journey is a brilliant experience and the scenery is spectacular. I couldn't recommend it enough to anyone who wants to visit. We live locally and we honestly felt like we were on holiday! Thank you again!

A must do if in the area. Kids(4yrM & 2yrF) loved it especially since there was a play area at the last stop before return journey. Amazing views with commentary. Very enthusiastic hosts and workers. Definitely recommend. Gift shop not to be missed - my son loved the train whistle and v bought several for his friends as well.

Easy parking, plenty of space. Toilets good. Cafe good, we bought take away cups of tea which we took on our journey. Lovely train, carriages have big windows so plenty of space to see the beautiful views wherever you sit. Friendly staff, with some commentary of the sights to look out for. 35minute stop on the way back to admire the views and get drinks and ice cream! Loved the gift shop! Love trip, really enjoyed it!

Would recommend to all adults and children. What a wonderful experience to ride on a stream train in the beautiful Welsh countryside. Two stops including one by the reservoir where you could enjoy a drink and snack from the cafe and let the children play at the playground. Great family day out! Blue light card discount when you ring up.

BikePark Wales, located near Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales, is a thrilling destination for downhill mountain biking enthusiasts. The park offers 40 trails of varying difficulty levels, catering to beginners and seasoned pros alike. With courses graded from green to black, riders can easily find the perfect trail for their skill level. This EU-backed facility opened in 2013 after an investment of 1.8 million pounds and has since become the top mountain biking spot in the UK.
The forest here is a beautiful place to ride, I like to take a minute sometimes mid run to catch my breath and appreciate the peace and quiet in the woods.. I feel very lucky to have seen the bike park grow and develop over the last 3-4 years of me visiting, so a big thanks to the founders for taking that first leap when deciding to open the bike park. The team here are amazing, so much love and attention goes into the daily running of the bike park and woodlands, the mechanics, front of house, uplift crew, trail crew all busy work aways, smiling and take a min to help, advise and tackling daily challenges head on.. Great vibes, great times, love the new A470 as I can finally enjoy T2B laps. Happy days see you soon..

Can't rate this place highly enough. Great facilities.staff are friendly and the whole atmosphere of the place is great. Trails are well looked after and the uplift crews are always helpful. The cafe had a good variety of food and drinks for everyone. The bike repair shop could not have been any more helpful and service was fast and quality. Many thanks .

Excellent place. Best day on a bike I've had. Rode most of the blue and red trails and a couple of blacks. We did something like 22mi of descending in 1 day! Nowhere except a bike can you do that! Really good place to go and would highly recommend to anyone of any ability who likes mountain biking. Has a big reputation to live up to and it certainly does.

My partner and I had an incredible two days at Bike Park Wales last week and can't wait to come back when we next can. Day 1 we got through all of the "flow" Blue Trails and had a blast. We rode up the Beast of Burden and did the "Steep EBike Climb". Day 2 we thought long and hard about our Day 1 life choices as our thighs were SCREAMING! However, we had a few hours of private tuition session with Head Coach Griff Morgan. The "uplift" was included for the day in the tuition package and we IMPLORE YOU FOR THE LOVE OF WHOEVER YOU PRAY TO ***BUY THE UPLIFT TICKET***!!!!!! You are welcome. Our session with Griff was fantastic. We both have different strengths and weaknesses and ability in terms of biking and we could have done with separate lessons. However, Griff did an outstanding job of tailoring his tuition and knowledge so that we both got the most out of our time with him. He's also a thoroughly lovely chap to spend time with and was very professional when I sent myself A over T in slow motion by testing my brakes a bit too enthusiastically... During our 2 day visit we sampled the food and drink on offer. I can genuinely say the coffee is excellent. We also enjoyed a Breakfast Bap, a vegetarian breakfast wrap, a Chilli Con Carne Jacket Potato, the BPW Burger, the hot dog with the pulled pork on and a Pepperoni pizza and a meaty pizza as well as some of the bottled and draft Popty Ping Lager. Everything was delicious and generous in portion size. We also made use of the free e-bike chargers - thanks BPW!! All of the staff we met and spoke to were a credit to BPW. All friendly and helpful and engaged in their work which was lovely to see. Looking forward to when we can next drive up from Essex to stay so we can visit BPW again.

Great trails bit of a queue checking in but no queues for the uplift got 9 laps in definitely worth the £50. Definitely would recommend to any level of rider. Had a crash but all good other than my phone and helmet.

A Brilliant Introduction to Mountain Biking – Huge Thanks to Colin! I’ve just completed the beginner course at Bike Park Wales for the second time, and once again, it was absolutely brilliant. We originally completed the course 3or 4 years ago and we’ve been eagerly awaiting my friend’s daughter’s birthday so she could finally join the experience – you need to be over 10 to participate. She is a particularly confident person so was ok at this age. The course itself is a fantastic introduction to mountain biking, including full bike and equipment hire, a guided tour, and two exhilarating runs down the green trail ‘Kermit’. At around 5km, Kermit is well designed – flowing, fun, and confidence-building with features like banked corners, gentle rollers, and small descents that give a taste of everything the sport has to offer. The whole operation at Bike Park Wales is professional. Reception staff were friendly and helpful, parking was simple, and all the equipment provided was clean and well-maintained. I had a Trek Roscoe Hardtail for the day – a solid bike that was perfect for the course. A special shout-out goes to our guide, Colin, who made the day. This was actually the second time I’ve had Colin as a guide – the first being three years ago – and I was so pleased to see he’s still as brilliant as ever. He’s incredibly patient, encouraging, and attentive to everyone’s needs, no matter their confidence level or ability. He was especially great with my friend’s daughter, helping her settle in and build her confidence from the start. Colin is a true ambassador for Bike Park Wales and for mountain biking in general. The atmosphere across the park is warm and welcoming. I come from a skiing background, and the vibe at base camp really reminded me of that – friendly, inclusive, and buzzing with energy. It’s a place that could seem intimidating from the outside, but the team make it accessible to everyone, and you quickly feel at home. Personally, I’ve been working my way back to health after a difficult period, and this experience really boosted my confidence. Mountain biking is definitely a physical sport and does require a basic level of fitness, but the uplift service makes it manageable, even for those not at peak fitness. All in all, it was a brilliant day, great value for money, and an ideal way to get into the sport, whether you’re a complete beginner or just looking to get back into riding.

Ok, first the good points! Very good set-up, great visitor area, uplift queues werent bad at all considering there were 500ish riders... I think they said they had 15 vehicles running, so very quick, tracks were many and varied! Bad points, 3! Now these are my own little gripes that you may feel are stupid and not bother you at all! 1st, not massively steep, but I still had plenty of fun 2nd, more bike wash stations, and make them free! We've already paid you 56 quid, surely you can give us a 50p wash included via a token system or something when you sign in! 3rd, parking... now this is a little controversial, because if you get there early, parking may not be an issue... we arrived around 9am and almost had to park on the roundabout where the entrance is, actually, there were 2 cars on the verge when we left. The road in and out is also a single track fire road basically but with the added feature of parked vehicles from top to bottom... you'll see if you go!!!! Overall good days riding, just those little niggles for me!
Darksmoka — Google review
Had a great time at Bikepark Wales. From the start check in was super easy, and the uplift was easy and efficient, the maximum time we were waiting for it was about 4 minutes is great compared to other bike trail centres. Trails built really well, warmed up on blues, mostly rode red and 2 black trails and gave The Martian a go (but it was probably out my skill level). The trails are built super well and drain really well. It rained the day before and light rain for about an hour and trails were in super good condition. Although the board by the uplift said trails in good condition there were some people going around saying the be super careful as trails were slippery even though they werent which i thought was a bit weird. Online booking was bit difficult too. If you want to max out your time on the trails, bring a packed lunch and skip the cafe as it us super busy. Very good time!

During our recent adventure in Merthyr Tydfil, we stumbled upon The Hideout, a charming café that quickly became the highlight of our trip. This quaint spot welcomed us with open arms and served up delicious veggie and vegan breakfasts that delighted both adults and kids alike. The friendly staff took the time to chat with us, allowing for some fun practice of my Welsh skills while sharing tips about local climbing spots.
We're a family from USA, we stopped here for lunch during a visit in Wales in 2023. This was a super neat & quaint cafe, made us feel at home. Good prices, too. 5 stars, would recommend.

First week 3 Sunday lunches by delivery didn't happen as waitress lost order. Rang and spoke to owner the following day who very kindly offered the next 3 meals on the house plus desserts. They were delivered quite late and had shredded meat which was presumed to be whatever was left over...random vegetables too. Didn't complain as they were free but gave the young lady delivery driver £10. Ordered yesterday for delivery today @ 2.30pm 2 x lamb dinners and 1 x beef. The beef was shredded again and as there was no lamb a pot of mixed meats to share between the other two I have a photo. This was a dessert sized portion of scraps of shredded chicken and beef. Random vegetables etc ... some had cauliflower cheese, some had cabbage, some frozen yorkshires, roasties and stuffing so can only assume that yet again we had the leftovers although copius amounts of peas and carrots. Contacted the owner who said the beef was slow cooked so no slices? and thought the small pot of scraps was ok but offered to bring more chicken and beef and was leaving immediately. Nothing arrived with no explanation. So £38 for very very poor food which was cold and inedible. Filed in the bin So several weeks on and no refund but 3 "free" meals I didn't want and lady who brought them knew nothing about a refund even though it had been discussed via phone. Yet again scraps of meat no lamb even though I paid extra same tired vegetables so let's leave it there. Do yourselves a favour and try tge Conservative Club across the road...gorgeous dinner for the same price.

My husband and I went to this cafe for lunch today. We checked the closing time & it was 3pm. After a 30-minute walk, we arrived at 1.35 pm. We were told that they were "closed sorry ". I responded that I thought they were open until 3 pm. The lady responded with, "we are open until 3 pm, but we like to finish earlier." In that case, "The Hideout," owners, I suggest you advertise your opening and closing times correctly. Say that 3pm actually means 1.30pm. Then, in the future, customers will know to arrive at least 1.5 to 2 hours before your advertised closing time in order to sample your (hopefully) delicious food. Food, no comment. Staff and customer service 0/10. We shan't be back.

I ordered a Sunday lunch and now we have them every Sunday the beef is beautiful not to fussy about chicken think i maybe processed there is 2 vegetables are beautifully cooked and portions are great shame they don’t do cabbage instead of peas and carrots the gravy is delicious homemade gravy they are also going to do Christmas dinners for ordering. Well done keep up the good work

Absolutely outstanding Sunday lunch delivery. Home made & so tasty. Delivery within 1 hour. 5th time I've ordered over the last 6 months & have never been disappointed

Lovely cafe, great food and amazing prices when you consider the cost of living crisis we're in right now...staff went above and beyond for us and were very accommodating! Unlimited condiments on the table which is always a plus in my eyes! Quiet location but still in town

Walked in and asked to leave because they had a booking then told we could stay, so that was embarrassing, then they bought my kids drinks over within about 5 mins which they had finished by the time my mocha eventually arrived. Won't be coming back again.

We came to see Tom Jenkins and the people the poet on Saturday 20th August 2022. Great venue, beautiful building inside and out. Staff very helpful and friendly. In fact a gentleman at the door gave us directions to the room. See respite not being visually disabled the gentleman noticed me trying to get up the stairs and pointed out a lift. He followed me up and got me a seat. At the end of the evening he showed me to the lift and asked if I was ok going down on my own, because my husband and son had used the stairs. Very helpful and polite.

What a gorgeous tea room. Delicious and extremely good value. Family run, which gave it that extra special touch. Will be back for more hand-made cakes and to watch the birds in the garden. Stunning location. Dog friendly. Visited twice as it was that lovely.

Seems this pretty hideaway cafe with it's lovely relaxing rear garden is actually very popular spotting place for everyone from the locals, hikers, Motorbikers, cyclists, the army and tourist! Even though it was very busy, we found a nice quiet place to eat delicious Italian style ice cream and watched the chaffinches hunting for breadcrumbs! Tea served in pretty decorative china cups and ground coffee cafeteria. Looking forward to returning for cream tea next time we're in the area on holiday!

A Perfect Post-Hike Treat at Old Barn Tea Room After completing the iconic Horseshoe route around Pen y Fan, there’s no better place to refuel before heading home. Old Barn Tea Room is a welcoming spot where the staff are truly attentive and polite, making every visit feel special. Food arrives quickly—just what’s needed after a long trek—and the cakes are an absolute highlight. The Victoria sponge is wonderfully light, while the coffee and walnut strikes the perfect balance of richness and texture. Pair either with a freshly brewed tea or coffee, and you’ve got the perfect way to round off an adventurous day in the Brecon Beacons. A word to the wise: they don’t accept card payments, but bank transfers are an option, or simply bring cash. Honestly, it adds to the charm of the place, keeping it delightfully traditional. Not my first time here, and certainly not my last—if you’re passing by, this place is a gem worth stopping for!

Brilliant place to visit. Cash only and no mobile phones perfect. Linda and staff super friendly and food is amazing. Homemade scones with clotted cream and jam. Plus we tried the ham cheese and onion sandwiches. No plastic ham but fresh boiled ham thickly sliced with grated cheese and red onion. Definitely my favourite place. Can’t wait until it reopens in February.

The Old Barn Tea Room is an absolute gem. From the moment you step inside, you’re struck by its rustic charm – it really is an old barn that’s been lovingly transformed into a tea room, and the atmosphere is both warm and welcoming. The service here is, quite honestly, the best I’ve ever experienced. The staff are incredibly attentive without ever being intrusive – they notice the little things, anticipate what you need, and make you feel genuinely cared for throughout your visit. It’s rare to come across such consistent thoughtfulness and friendliness, and it makes the whole experience stand out. The food is excellent – beautifully prepared, presented with real care, and just as good to look at as it is to eat. There’s plenty of choice on the menu, and something to suit every taste. The selection of teas and drinks is outstanding too, with a wide variety that really adds to the enjoyment. Altogether, The Old Barn Tea Room offers a combination of outstanding service, lovely food, and a unique rustic setting that makes it a real pleasure to visit. It’s the kind of place you leave already planning your next trip back.

So friendly and helpful, especially when one of us navigated crutches 🤔. Great cream tea and cake. Thank you. 😀

It is a pretty place, particularly on a sunny day because the garden is lovely, but the food is quite average (we had two different types of soup and they were both over-seaseoned with pepper and salt). The tea is served in lovely cups though so I would recommend going there for an afternoon tea as the scones looked delicious.

Located in the heart of a stunning forest, Garwnant Visitor Centre is a popular destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts. The center serves as the starting point for various walking trails and mountain bike routes, offering opportunities for adventure and exploration. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a play area, low ropes course, and two puzzle trails suitable for all ages. For those looking to improve their mountain biking skills, there's a child-friendly skills park with obstacles designed to build confidence.
Was an amazing day out. The visitor centre is lovely and has everything you need but only takes card. There's no reception in the area at all which is fine but just something to consider. The walks were great and gave me son loads of confidence. Definitely recommend it. Carpark was also very reasonable.

Had lots of lovely memories here It is looking a bit overgrown and a private company have added some holiday lodges Still a wonderful place to walk dogs cafe amazing lovely staff I never know why it is never busy It so deserves to be packed Beautiful scenery around

The visitor centre is a nice place to visit for walkers. You get great views and a nice place to eat and drink. The visitor centre sells things that are for a certain kind of person, driftwood ornaments, etc. It lacked information on the centre and on the pursuits one could do around the area. The outside could do with a bit of a spruce up. They have a lovely place in an amazing area but are missing the chance to do something to entice people to come back. If you have limited mobility, it's a long way to go fo a cup of tea 🍵 that's if you can find it, sign posting on the main road can be a bit small leading up to the turn off. We saw the name, but no idea what the rest of the notice said.

We spent an afternoon here with our 18mth. old granddaughter. There was so much to do, adventure playground for older children a swing park for little ones, wood carvings of different types of characters/creatures from rabbits to the Gruffalo, bike hire, restaurant, walks and all this surrounded by the most beautiful scenery. Definitely worth a visit, we will definitely be going back, our Granddaughter loved it and so did Nanny and Bampa.
Haulwen E — Google review
Good little visitors centre with cafe and gift shop. Good for kids but not so much if you're into your walking/hiking. Trails were poorly marked and the "Wern Walk" was quite boring as half of it is along a trackway with cars. Stick to the Taff Trail.

Great setting and facilities for everyone, children park and walked suitable for all.

We come to garwnant a lot, but must warn people how extortionate the prices are to eat in the cafe. It’s verging on criminal. £18 for a burger, £4.40 for a COKE. Even snacks and small cakes are £3.85-£4.00. This is meant to be a family friendly place, but you’re deterring people from eating in your venue due to your pricing. I spoke to 5 people today who all felt the same and won’t be coming back. You’re a mile away from Merthyr. Not London.

We visited Garwnant Forest in Bannau Brycheiniog for a lovely walk on a very cold and frosty day. It was very enjoyable and we easily reached our 10,000 step mark. Some lovely views. We then had a very filling meal in the cafe. Good value.

Nestled in the heart of Merthyr Tydfil, Haystack Cafe is a delightful spot that has quickly become a local favorite. With its charming decor featuring wooden tables and quirky accents like garden forks and vibrant pictures, the ambiance is both inviting and unique. The cafe boasts an impressive menu known for its massive pancake breakfasts and mouthwatering dishes like the Chorizo Stack, which combines poached eggs, halloumi, avocado on sourdough with spicy red hollandaise.
We visited the amazing Haystacks in Merthyr Tydfil this week, and have to report what a wonderful experience it was. We brought our baby in pram and our dog, and we're looked after so well. The staff helped us choose our table, with plenty of room to accommodate the pram and dog, and we're so attentive throughout our visit. They really are dog friendly, as they made sure our lab was well looked after with lots of fuss and even gave her a sausage as a treat. The food was exceptional - I can't quite figure out how they were done but the eggs on the farmer's s breakfast are some of the best I've ever tasted. Me and my other half shared a breakfast between us, as we also wanted to sample the pancakes (both breakfast and pancake portions were more than enough to share). We had the Kinderella pancake stack and it was every bit as tasty and decadent as we hoped for. We can't wait to come back and try more of the dishes, especially as it is also great value IMHO. Decor is brilliant too, and the atmosphere even on a moderately quiet week day afternoon was great.

Visited here from Manchester, really loved the decor and atmosphere. Came for a coffee on the Saturday and it was such a rich coffee, gorgeous. Came for the food on the Sunday and was equally as nice. Would definitely come again
Amber — Google review
Had a coffee (flat white) and a bacon and sausage brioche roll.. it was ok.. but not for the price... Tbh, bacon was tough (like a buffet bacon) - it was thick, but that wasn't it. Coffee was fine.. I personally thought it tasted burnt - but that may have been the roast and my taste. Not a fan of the trendy, now not trendy mini shovels instead of just simple spoons. Atmosphere is nice. Decor looks really intriguing towards the back, looks like a very nice place for potentially cocktails, but on the basis that it closes at 4:00 p.m. I don't think that's an option. Maybe I just had a bad day. Everyone else seemed to be enjoying the rest of their food.

Got here at 1pm on a Saturday and got told we were waitlisted. The waiter told us that there would be a 50 minute wait which we agreed to do because we had heard excellent reviews about this place. There was no booking system which would really benefit this place so be prepared to wait. Once inside I had ordered the 'Pretty in pink toast' in which I did not enjoy as there was too much beetroot puree. After we were finished with our meals, we ordered pancakes for dessert. Even after we had finished the pancakes, our previous plates were still left at the side of the table. The staff could see the plates (we were right by the entrance) but didn't bother to take them away. They were not busy and only seemed to remove plates once the customers had left.

Costa Coffee is a popular counter-service coffee chain that offers a wide variety of high-quality hot and iced beverages, along with sweet snacks and sandwiches. Located at Unit 12-13, Cyfarthfa Retail Park in Merthyr Tydfil, this branch provides a range of delicious options for coffee enthusiasts and food lovers. While the space may be a bit cramped and lacking air conditioning, the friendly staff are known for their professionalism and attentiveness to customer needs.
I come here for a coffee once or twice a week. A very, very busy store for its size, consistently full whatever day or time I am there. Lovely staff to talk to and who are constantly flat out working everytime I visit. People have left comments criticizing tables not being clear. How hard is it for you to clear the tray on the table yourself? Blame the previous people who left it.

Called in Costa in NEXT carfartha retail park merthyr Wednesday 7th May. Very disappointed. There was a long queue . I waited for 20 minutes and was second in queue and the girl serving then stated only take out cups and we couldn't sit in to drink them. A few of us asked why she didn't announce this earlier to save us waiting and she said she was too busy? Disgraceful, I'm disabled and having a hip replacement in a fortnight. There were other people sitting in the cafe so I sat for 30 minutes to rest so I could have had a coffee but she said NO

The girl on the coffee machine took 25 mins to serve us because she was having a long in depth conversation with every customer to the point it was becoming awkward as she was giving details about her private life. She told one customer she loved chocolate and wanted to lick the cappuccino dust. She told another she’d had two takeaways that weekend. She poured the milk with her mouth inches from the cup breathing all over the rim. The whole experience was rather bizarre and her behaviour was really unsettling.

Marks & Spencer is a delightful shopping destination that offers a fantastic experience for both clothing and food enthusiasts. Recently, I took my daughter for her first bra fitting there, and the service was exceptional. Maria, who assisted us, was incredibly understanding and made sure my daughter felt at ease throughout the process. We left with the perfect fit and a selection of underwear that brought her joy. For those looking to do their weekly grocery shopping, Marks & Spencer provides an excellent range of products in its food hall.
Brilliant for our weekly shop…parking is easy and only 15 mins from our house. Some clothing bargains to be had and also a lovely cafe. Lots of other stores around also.

Super disappointed in the cafe! The food I asked for on the menu wasn't available so the tomato soup was recommended. Although I didn't have an appetite for soup I figured that because it's M&S it should be nice. Mistake! Tomato and basil, it was so bland and had lumps in it! I've had better canned tomatoe soup from Lidl! The hot chocolate cost over £4 and the picture looked amazing, tall cup with loads of squirty cream and chocolate dust, when it came, the cream was flat with a stupid swirl of what was probably meant to look like a chocolate pattern! Greggs hot chocolate is half the price and way better.. Onto the cakes. After all my disappointment with the soup and chocolate I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt, their cakes MUST be nice, this is M&S! 😂 Where does M&S get off charging nearly £4 for a smidgen of a slice of lemon drizzle cake that is a weak excuse for one of the best cakes on the planet? In summary Overpriced nasty food. I won't be going there again. This is not just food! this is not food at all actually!! Shame on you M&S, what happened to your quality?

A lovely little community cafe in the middle of Merthyr Town. Places like this really need our support. Not a huge menu but well presented with friendly service and good value. Live music provided by a group of elderly gentlemen who obviously meet regularly and were very talented and enjoying themselves - really lovely to see!

Caffi Soar was the highlight of our trip to friendly Merthyr Tydfil. The lovely man there rustled up fab veggie and vegan breakfasts for us and our two children and took the time to chat with us, giving me a chance to practise my dodgy-but-improving Welsh. During my recent visit to the Asda Merthyr Tydfil Superstore, I was truly touched by the incredible support from the staff. When I unexpectedly felt unwell while shopping, their kindness and willingness to help made all the difference. It’s heartwarming to see such a dedicated team ready to assist customers in need. A big thank you to everyone at Asda Merthyr for their outstanding service!

where do I start? The shop was an absolute pigsty cages left in the middle of Isles. Isles left bare and nobody restocking them. And what stock was on the shelves were so far from the price labels. You’d have to be Miss Marple to work it out. don’t even think about trying to make a complaint. You’ll spend an hour on the phone to an Indian call centre who doesn’t understand the law of the UK! they dont have the ability to take it any further so what’s the point in wasting your time with a phone call! all in all worst Asda experience ever, the only redeeming quality was a woman on the customer service, albeit stood away from her post talking to a colleague, was happy to refund me for my absolutely abysmal bacon roll. AVOID LIKE THE PLAUGE 🤢🤮

Really bad experience at self checkout. 11am on Saturday morning, most tills busy and no member of staff present. The machines themselves are awful and needed assistance 3 times in total (the last occasion was when no staff member present). The last assistance was needed to confirm visually I'd brought my own bag. The system needs a complete rethink if you need someone to confirm this. Everyone was waiting for someone to arrive so I went to the customer service desk to say no one was at self checkout. They just said "someone will be there shortly" and made no effort to contact someone about this. Eventually someone did arrive but then had to deal with pretty much every service station at once. No apology or explanation why no one was there on a busy Saturday morning.
Ian F — Google review
Unfortunately, ASDA has gone down hill drastically over the years. The gas station no longer accepts payment at the windows, you have to pay by card at the pump. On a Friday evening, they have no more than three tills open at one time. So you either have to queue up or go to self service. In fact, it was only two weeks ago that they had NOBODY on the checkouts. So you go to self service and then you're standing around for a good five minutes waiting for an employee to come on over to make sure you haven't missed any items. Here's an idea...why not have more people on the check outs? It's actually a proven fact that theft from stores are considerably a lot lower (and queues are quicker!) when checked out by staff and not self checkout. Absolutely mortifying. Two awful experiences in the last two weeks. I will be surprised if ASDA still remains at the top of Dowlais in the next five years. Absolutely shocking.

If I could give it a 0 I would. Didn't have any kids menu (keep in mind it's school holidays and lunchtime) asked for jacket potatoes no cheese. Eventually the cheese was located from where it was hiding took them 40 mins to bake a potato that was already baked .. the lady although sweet lacks customer service skills seemed to suggest it was our fault the jacket potato had run out because we ordered 3 (sorry for paying and offering food off your menu). Checkout my 4 year old could run faster. Just appalling in general. Avoid! Especially with kids and especially in the holidays! Sorry to say went to Tesco cafe yesterday and the service was night and day in comparison. Super disappointed.

If you're on the lookout for a cozy spot to enjoy hearty meals, look no further than the Welsh Cafe. Diners rave about their generous portions and quick service, making it an ideal choice for a satisfying meal. From classic bacon and sausage rolls to juicy burgers paired with chips, there's something for everyone. While some dishes may lack a bit of seasoning, the quality of ingredients shines through in every bite.
Classic British Cafe fayre but the prices were great and they had a good selection of meals on the menu. We went for the all-day breakfast and were not disappointed. I had an omelette with mushrooms, chips and salad and it was very reasonably priced. Cooked well and quickly. Someone in my group tried the pancakes and was very pleased with those.

I don't tend to write many negative reviews as I like to give everybody a chance but the experience we had today here did not match the 4,4 stars it's currently got. Off the bat, the young woman who served us was really antisocial, just did not seem like she wanted to be there working. Took our order, all fine. Food came out and we noticed we were missing a fork from the table so my friend politely asked for one. She said nothing, nearly looked inconvenienced and went and fetched a fork. When she came back, we both said thank you but didn't even get a look back. I had the poached eggs on toast and it was lukewarm at best, felt like it had sat around for a while before coming to us. Taste was okay. My friend had the jacket potato & said that it was cold, tough & the onions she was served tasted rotten and had a brown tinge to them. She left half of it as she could not stomach the taste of it all. The drinks we had were really nice, quite the redeeming factor of the meal. We will not be returning.

Myself and my husband was here this morning, We were greeted by a lovely young woman that delivered some delicious food. We were very put off by an older staff member speaking very rudely to the girls who expressed concerned about the heat (my husband and myself both agreed it was warm in this establishment) Not the first place in merthyr we’ve witnessed older authorities using their power against the younger generation. Overall lovely food and service but won’t be returning to any place who shut down their staff.

Im always here having a breakfast on a Saturday and food is amazing, once went in on a Saturday to the chef in the kitchen shouting and threatened to kick the 2 women (that worked there)out of the shop, wasn’t very pleasant to be sat there while the chef is shouting their business around while customers there, not the way to be speaking to your staff!! Exceptionally when you’ve got customers!! And the two women always bring a brilliant service with a smile 😀

Can't give a review for food as we didn't stay there long, literally walked in and asked if we needed to book or if we could just sit in, after rolling her eyes, the young lady behind the counter said abruptly and angrily, 'you can sit wherever, but it's cash only today'. I ignored her tone and asked where the closest cash machine was to be told in the same tone "it's a city, there's cash machines everywhere" I politely said thankyou, left the shop and went to another nice cafe down the road where the staff were nice and I left a tip. Would not reccomend speaking to the staff in there.

The center features impressive indoor climbing walls, bouldering, group accommodations, and a well-equipped gym. Visitors can also explore the man-made caving system and take on the aerial course. With over 23 instructed activities available, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
We recently booked rock UK for an hour’s climbing party for our daughters ninth birthday and we couldn’t be more impressed! She took eight friends to climb with her but they were more than happy to accommodate at ninth child who wasn’t climbing but wanted to watch. In the end she did climb! Extremely friendly welcome , exactly the right level of fun but safe teaching encouraging teamwork and learning. Feel like we’ve found an absolute gem. The girl’s instructor, Kirsty, was an excellent tutor and really good with the girls who were very excited and keen to get climbing! I couldn’t recommend rock UK highly enough for a birthday party and we really glad to have found it for future activities. My daughter had an excellent time, we will be back! Thank you!

We come here weekly to visit the cafe for a coffee, hot drinks are always good here. The cafe is dog friendly, there is one unisex toilet and a disabled toilet. There’s outside seating with a children’s play area and also a small soft play area inside. There’s a good selection of snacks, sweet treats, ice cream and soft drinks on offer with some vegan options. Food prices are on the higher side, there’s usually a long wait for hot food items. Important to note that the cafe takes bank card only.

Just had a wonderful afternoon taster caving with our fantastic instructor, Chris. He was friendly and reassuring and great with the kids (cautious 9yo and unpredictable 5yo). Despite their early concerns, both kids ended up completing all the challenges happily and were really chuffed with their achievements. As an artificial cave (and therefore not too deep underground), it was a great opportunity for them to try it out without the daunting-ness of rivers/a big cave mouth/deep underground/slippery walls. I would highly recommend it for anyone trying it out for the first time! What was also great was that there were multiple routes connected - so when my husband and I, who are a wee bit more on the curvaceous side couldn't get past a tight part, we could scoot through a different route while the kids sat safely in the destination chamber and waited for us. Altogether a fabulous afternoon, and exceptional value for money with the "come back this Easter 1/2 price offer."

What kind of new opening hours are these, the average person works Monday to Friday 9 - 5pm, their travel home may take 1 hour give or take for traffic, by the time they have Dinner, grab kit, & kids and drive over to the centre, that would at most leave them just if they're lucky 2 hours to climb, and that's only week days, most people only have chance to climb on weekends, Saturday your only open now until 5pm , Sunday plus Monday your closed 😲😯 Sataurday is normally rammed with ques behind people to have a go of the route because that's the only day most can get there.. You state this in your mission statement - We're passionate about getting people climbing and enjoying outdoor activities. Your not helping with those ridiculous opening hours,. Think they need reassessment seriously, they are stunting alot of people learning or experiencing new skills..

Nestled in the heart of Merthyr Tydfil, The Tiger Inn is a charming hotel and restaurant that exudes warmth and hospitality. With its rich history as a coaching inn, it offers guests a unique blend of character and comfort. Visitors rave about the delicious meals served here, particularly enjoying the delightful breakfast options. The welcoming atmosphere makes you feel like part of the family, with attentive staff who go above and beyond to ensure your stay is memorable.
Really nice hotel, decor is beautiful yet quirky and unique in its own way, rooms are comfortable, staff very friendly and accommodating. Decent prices for its very central location, parking is just 2 min away on foot, and breakfast options are very affordable. Would definitely recommend.

If you have not been to The Tiger Inn then you absolutely have to go. We held a Celebrant training course there this week and what a week it was. I can honestly say we felt like family when we left. Sarah and team were incredible, absolutely nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was amazing and what a comfy bed. Thank you so much for allowing us to host our training in your beautiful Palm room and Sarah next time! Fantastic place. xx Tess - The Academy of Professional Celebrants.

I had a very comfortable stay in this hotel, which has a wonderful character (from its history as a coaching inn). The breakfast was delicious, and the complimentary Welsh cake on arrival was a lovely gesture. Many thanks!
Michael M — Google review
Mixed experience. Stayed at hotel for 1 night as a couple. There were a couple good things overall: the room was reasonably clean, and the hotel is very close to the bus station and train station. The bad things were: - We received an email with check-in details that clearly stated that we were entitled to a complimentary breakfast sandwich, however when I asked about it, the member of staff made up excuses about how it was a special offer around Christmas but they had long since removed it from the website. I showed her the email and she admit it shouldn't have been on the email, but refused to offer us complimentary breakfast and just apologised instead - terrible customer service. - There was no handwash or soap provided. - The shower gel that was provided was practically empty on arrival. - We (a couple, who had booked the room for 2 people) only had 1 cup, which was dirty and had lipstick stains on it. - The mirror light in the ensuite didn't work. - The towels had stains on them and they all smelled really bad (I think they had been washed, but maybe dried or stored improperly). - We received an email after booking telling us that check-in would be at 11:00, however when we arrived around 14:00, we were told that check-in was at 15:00 but fortunately the room was ready early. Don't think I would recommend this hotel, there are plenty of others in the city you can go to instead.

I stayed here with a friend during a road trip and a trip to Bike Park Wales. We arrived very late but Sarah checked ahead with us so that she could let the night porter know. When we arrived we were greeted by Phil the night porter and he was great. Very easy going, helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed our pints and our chats with him. Phil let us store our bikes in the lockable garage which helped a lot too. Our twin/bunk bed room was all we needed. Enough space, comfy and clean and everything worked. Breakfast was very nice too and the coffee was great. Highly recommend. Phil and Sarah were fantastic hosts.

Just popped into the Tiger for a quiet drink in a very comfortable lounge. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Looking forward to having a pint on my next visit to Merthyr Tydfil.

We didn’t stay at the hotel but we ate breakfast in the cafe after walking around in the rain trying to find somewhere that was open/could fit us in on New Years Eve. The service was excellent! The staff were very nice and welcoming. The cafe it self was beautiful and had a very homely feeling towards it, the whole group appreciated the cleanliness of the bathroom too. We all really enjoyed our food - particularly the eggs Benedict, French toast, omelette and smashed avocado. The earl grey and spiced Indian tea were very nice as well. Don’t usually leave reviews but I had to because we had such a great time!

Tiffins is a delightful culinary gem that keeps drawing me back for more! The Indian buffet offers an impressive array of fresh and flavorful dishes, complemented by stunning desserts that are simply irresistible. The warm hospitality from Naz and the attentive staff enhances the experience, making every visit feel special. With freshly made naan bread brought right to your table, it’s hard not to indulge in this feast. If you haven't yet experienced Tiffins, you're truly missing out on a first-class dining adventure!
Ate here again this week. Honestly can’t get enough. Fresh, tasty food and quality service. Awesome variety on the Indian buffet and if that’s not enough the deserts are stunning. If you haven’t yet been, you’re missing out. Thank you for a quality dining experience 😁
Karl G — Google review
This has to be the worst indian I've ever had. To start with there is no ambience in there, when shown the dishes which there was not much selection, no signs to say what your eating but I thought why not give it a go. The food was cold and the currys were tasteless and to be honest weren't sure if it was chicken, if your going to open an Indian restaurant then make sure you hire a chef that knows Indian spices. The owner fair play couldn't do enough for us but by then it was too late, he said in 3 weeks he will have it like other Tiffins (good luck with that) but yet he still charges £14.95, so I'm sorry to say that I will NEVER go there again. Please read the reviews before going and save yourself some money
Victoria S — Google review
AVOID AVOID AVOID (Not the real Tiffins) Lovely owner but the food is terrible, nothing tastes like an Indian should. Food is cold and lacking a decent selection for it to be called a buffet. It costs £14.95 pp but it's probably only worth a fraction of that because of the quality. This is not to be confused with the successful Tiffins Indian Buffet that exists elsewhere like Cwmbran/Newport. The Merthyr Tiffins standard of food, service and restaurant decor is no way near as good as the real Tiffins! Please note any positive reviews on here or TripAdvisor have been left by the owner !
Alfie — Google review
Wasn't a fan of the food the curry was watery and just looked a mess on the plate, nothing was labled up, so it was pick a curry and hope it don't burn your mouth off, also very very little selection and was going to charge us for having two slices of cheese cake! (All you can eat mind) deffo don't recommend and it's deffo no real tiffins, on the bright side the people working there was kind and helpful.
LeeSmithYT33 — Google review
First class food wonderful service can't wait to go back, Indian food at its best all was well labeled and the cheese cake was delicious. Naz you've excelled yourself compliments to everyone. 😋😋😋

Absolutey gorgeous food with a warm welcome from Naz who can't do enough for you, even in the buffet his chef brings out fresh homemade naan bread which is the best I've ever tasted.

M&S Cafe offers a cozy and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a casual meal or a quick snack. Despite the bustling crowd during lunchtime, the cafe maintains a relaxed vibe. Diners can indulge in delightful options like the Grazing Platter, which impresses with its homemade quality. While some items may feel slightly pricey, many agree that the experience is worth it.
Lovely cafe with lovely food. Staff very helpful and friendly. Very much enjoyed my cake and roll.
Tyler H — Google review
Came in with mum this afternoon I understand it’s a Sunday but it was only 2pm , the food choices were next to nothing, empty boxes where there should have been sandwiches and other refreshments , the cakes on display looked dry and Victoria sponge cake was just sliding off in layers. Some cakes on display under the see through domes looked like they were touched and probed, by other customers, the state of the tables were outrageously dirty it’s a real big let down for such a staple when it comes to what used to be the best part of shopping visit to somewhere like M&S. Archie Norman would not be impressed at all at this lack of can do attitudes and sloppy staff .
Nathanial H — Google review
Comfortable and relaxed cafe area, was really quite busy when we arrived, around 1pm on a Monday so not sure why. Opted for the Grazing Platter for £8.95, was pleasantly surprised at the quality, as good as you make at home, would recommend. Bit pricey with the total bill, but as they say you get what you pay for.

Always enjoyed the food at M&S café - however the state on the tables, chairs and cutlery here may just put a stop to my visits 🤢 Always justified the prices for the "cleanliness", however I've had cleaner tables in Wetherspoons 💀

Great brunch earlier today - my friend and I popped in after our walk around the park with my Goldador. We were quickly seated, we opted to use the QR code to order, but we were served our coffees and food quickly. It’s great to have a place that’s dog friendly, and genuinely dog friendly. Buzz was offered a puppuccino and was even treated to a sausage that got served the same time as my friend’s breakfast. Thank you to Chris in particular!

Popped in here yesterday after a lovely cycle from Cardiff with friends. I ordered the tuna melt and it was the best tuna melt I have had for years. Very tasty and a generous one to boot. Glad I didn’t order chips too LOL. The coffee was also very nice in this establishment. Please support this Local business the staff are all very nice. You are served quickly and the table was nice and clean Too with a very comfortable couch to sit on.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We celebrated my sister’s 50th birthday at Gatto Lounge on 28th October, and it was absolutely fantastic! There were 17 of us in total, and from start to finish the service was excellent. Steve, Sam and Chris were amazing – so friendly, attentive, and really went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect for our group. The food and drinks were all delicious, and the atmosphere was spot on for a special occasion. It was my first visit to Gatto Lounge, but it definitely won’t be my last. We all had such a great time – highly recommend! 🎉🍸🍽️
Tanya P — Google review
My review is mixed. On my first visit I found the staff helpful & friendly, I returned a week later with a group of friends. On this occasion, one of the servers was abrupt, slamming things onto the table. Had that been my first visit, I would not have returned. We left after our main meal to get coffee and dessert elsewhere. Perhaps she was having a bad day. However, the food was good and the other staff we met were polite and efficient.

I am a regular customer in the Gatto lounge and I absolutely love it. But I just wanted to leave a review tonight for a special thank you. We had my aunties 50th Birthday meal tonight. There were lots of us and the gatto lounge were absolutely incredible. From the food, drinks, customer service. Everything was perfect. Alot of my family hadn’t been to the gatto lounge before tonight and they can’t wait to return. Thank you so much for making a special occasion one to remember. A special thank you to Steve, Chris and Sam. 10/10 customer service.

What can I say ..........stunning stunning food ! Absolutely delicious......spoilt for choice...we ended up choosing fully loaded hot dogs and pepperoni pizza fries.... Delish... Soft fluffy brioche rolls.....gooey cheese ,oodles of jalapeños,. the fries tasted amazing. We were served by a lovely young lady who was very informative helped us choose our order and kept us up to date on when our food would arrive. She was a credit to your team...we also had the privilege of meeting the chef as we had enquired about the gooey cheese used, what a lovely man , chatty, helpful and clearly proud of the roadhouse and its staff and menu. We will most definitely be back and we have already highly recommended to our family and friends. Thanks for a perfect experience x

First time here. We had a lovely breakfast after climbing pen y fan this morning. The lady that served us was so friendly and lovely, bless her she was the only one on the floor. I was quite disappointed with the toilets as they were not clean and hygiene is my main priority, but the food and the service was great!

Over an hour wait for food! And we weren't the only ones. Could hear another family say they were missing elements from their food and that they had also been waiting some time. Over the years I have had nice service and lovely breakfasts, however this must have been with the owners. We ended up asking for our food to go. Only put the 2nd star because the food was actually half decent.

One of the last remaining Italian cafes in the town. Great coffee - as you would imagine. Pies are definitely worth a try. Always friendly service.
