Antica Dolceria Bonajuto is a renowned chocolatier in Sicily, offering a variety of dark chocolate bars and pastries for take-away or outdoor enjoyment. The traditional method of production involves grinding cacao beans on a curved stone and creating cacao paste without any additional preservatives, fat, artificial flavors, or mechanized labor. This pure approach to chocolate-making is rare but still practiced at Antica Dolceria Bonajuto.
The service was really great. They were helpful and provided lots of samples to help us make our choice. The chocolate was definitely more bitter than normal because of the higher cacao content but we really enjoyed it and all the variations. Got three bars, some hot chocolate and a chocolate cake piece. The chocolate cake was delicious. The shop is down a side street but ample signage.
Eric T — Google review
We participated in a guided tour at Antica Dolceria Bonajuto, where we learned all about the process of making their chocolate, from start to finish. The tasting session was amazing – each chocolate was rich and full of flavor. We also enjoyed shopping in the charming store, picking some delicious treats to take home. A must-visit for anyone who loves chocolate and wants an authentic Sicilian experience!
Limor H — Google review
You have to visit this place if you’re a chocolate lover. It’s a little bit different than the chocolate that people are used to, but it’s still great. The staff if very friendly, gave us chocolate to try before buying and told us how it’s made. You can also get cannoli here. The most perfect cannoli I have ever eaten, crispy on the outside and soft not too sweet cream on the inside. Variety of flavours to choose from.
Gabriele E — Google review
A must-visit when in Modica! Antica Dolceria Bonajuto is not just a chocolate shop — it’s a cultural experience. The oldest chocolate factory in Sicily, it preserves the unique tradition of cold-processed Modican chocolate with incredible skill and authenticity. From classic bars to spiced and citrus-infused creations, every piece is rich in flavor and history. The staff is knowledgeable and passionate, and the atmosphere breathes timeless charm. Don’t miss the chance to taste a piece of Sicilian heritage — or take some home as the perfect gift!
Gianaurelio ( — Google review
A must go for a chocolate lover! Chocolate in Modica is different, they make it as ancient recipes mixing only cacao paste and sugar, therefore it doesn’t melt in the mouth but create a totally different experience! It tastes wonderful! And with many different flavors! The cassatina allo cioccolato is very very good!
Roberto R — Google review
After a long cycle and facing yet another hill ahead, I was grateful to stumble across this spot in Modica. Their freshly made cannoli were an absolute treat — crisp shells filled on the spot with rich, creamy ricotta that hit the perfect balance. Just what I needed to recharge before the next climb. A little slice of Sicilian heaven, and a must-visit for anyone passing through.
Aled D — Google review
A bit of a loud and confusing place, with multiple lines and a lot of shouting to order. But it works, and you get your order very quickly. We ordered a cold chocolate milk and a chocolate granita. I particularly enjoyed the chocolate milk, and I found the chocolate granita to be fine as well. For my girlfriend's taste, it was slightly too bitter, but for my taste, it was good.
Roy O — Google review
We came here for the chocolate Making tour, as well as to buy Modica Chocolate. We would highly recommend, the tour is very informative, hands on (such as cracking a cocoa bean and tasting it) as well as getting a behind the scenes look on how the world's most loved bean is harvested. The chocolate is also delicious. Tour offered also in English which was very clear and detailed.

Caffè dell'Arte is a charming café located in Modica, offering a delightful array of Sicilian pastries and sweets. Established in 1967, this cozy spot is known for its freshly made breakfast treats, including ricotta-filled brioche and coffee granita. The aroma of delicious brioches fills the air as they come straight out of the oven. Visitors can also indulge in local specialties such as cannoli and Modican chocolate.
We were only passing through Modica and stopped for a coffee and breakfast. The croissant with ricotta was amazing. I took the gelato brioche (I'm having gelato brioche every day in different places during our 10-day trip around Sicily 😅). This one was perfect. A bit less Gelato compared to other places but it was super tasty. The coffee was good and everything was less than 10 euros. Oh, they also bring their chocolate and you can spread it over your coffee. Nice touch.

Visit: 12/05/2023 Two people, for breakfast Amazing pastries and sweets, and one of the best “americanos” ever. A the attendant was so nice! PROS: - incredible pistachio and almonds granitas; - the creamy hot chocolate is rich and full of flavor; - the ricotta cannoli was delicious; - great “americano” coffee; - the attendant and the waitress were very kind; - the ambience is small and cozy; - the menu is really interesting; - prices are ok CONS: - I can’t find one For sure, this is a place you must visit whenever you come to Modica!

Absolutely delicious! I had the Modica hot chocolate and some filled croissants — both were amazing. The service was warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere relaxing. Will be coming back to try more !Highly recommend Caffè dell’Arte if you're in Modica!

Cannolo here is not just a dessert; it's heaven. It's the best I've had in my life, with tasty ricotta and a perfect crunch.
Matt R — Google review
The best Modican hot chocolate we had ever tried. We also asked for heavy cream (panna) - fabulous and unforgettable. They’ve got many options and the cornetti tasted fresh and light. We chose to seat inside but I saw that they’ve got many tables outside as well.
Ettore B — Google review
TLDR: friendly staff, delicious chocolate and cannoli, decent prices! Originally we just came in for a cannoli, but we ended up leaving with a bag of chocolates! First off- the cannoli itself was really good. They fill them as you order so they don’t get soggy. (But we got them to go and they were still crispy after a couple of hours) the ricotta cream was fluffy but not too sweet, and they were very generous with the pistachio sprinkles. They then offered us some chocolate and hot chocolate samples, and told us a little bit about the history of the cafe and chocolate shop. (You can really tell how proud and passionate they are about their chocolates!) Apparently the father of the cafe owner was one of the chocolate pioneers in Modica, and he still insists on making chocolates by hand to this day. They have a great selection of chocolates at a fair price (tad bit lower than other places in the area). They even sell 100% cocoa chocolates and their hot chocolate powder! Oh, if you haven’t had Modica hot chocolate, I highly recommend it if you like chocolate fudge. They make their hot chocolate with either water or milk, depending on your preference. Milk can be a little too heavy, but it makes a great dipping sauce if you have it with a pastry!
Allie L — Google review
The best Granita/Cremolata in Modica? Yeah, yeah, much debate about this - every place has the best, I know. But this is *good*. Locals swear by it. A lot. Not just the locals - we were there pretty much every day for granita/coffee in the morning, and a couple more during the day 😜 (And yes, the brioche is pretty damn amazing too - just the right texture for dunking)
Mahesh P — Google review
We had a very complete breakfast with local products. We tried the hot chocolate, Pistacchio croissant, the sicilian cannolo (ricota filling with pistacchio) and their great expresso. All of this for under 10 euros. Great price for very good quailty in Modica's main street. The staff was all super nice and made us feel very welcomed. If you are in Modica, dont look much further!

Cafe Adamo is a must-visit spot in Modica, known for serving the best gelato in town. The pistachio gelato is particularly famous, but the chocolate flavor is also highly recommended for its decadent taste. Visitors praise the friendly and accommodating service, with English-speaking staff making the experience even more enjoyable. The cafe's cremolata is highlighted as fabulous, especially flavors like ricotta, almond, and strawberry.
Absolutely delicious butter croissant. I’ve never enjoined a plain croissant so much in my life. We also tried the cassata siciliana and it was the best we had on our trip so far.
Judita M — Google review
Here I tasted one of the finest ricotta granitas in all of Sicily. The texture was perfectly smooth, the flavor rich yet delicate, and the sweetness impeccably balanced. What truly stood out was the presentation – original, elegant, and visually inviting, adding an extra layer of pleasure to an already exceptional dessert. A memorable stop for anyone who appreciates granita at its best.
Vladimir B — Google review
Adamo Caffè was our final stop in Modica after a long day of sightseeing, and it provided a much-needed and wonderfully refreshing break before driving on to Marzamemi. The Highlight: Cremolata! We highly recommend trying their specialty, the Cremolata. This is a dish unique to this cafe, a delicious hybrid of granita and ice cream that is lighter and even more satisfying than typical Sicilian granita. It's clearly made with fresh, local ingredients, and it was much tastier than any other similar treat we had during our trip. Our cappuccino was also excellent. We weren't hungry enough to try the solid food, but the display of pastries was exceptional and looked absolutely delicious—I regretted not having room to try them! The location is great for a quick stop and the staff was friendly. If you are looking for a unique and super-refreshing way to cool down and recharge in Modica, be sure to stop here and order the Cremolata!
Halide E — Google review
Great experience and the employees were so helpful helping us pick the best combination for our breakfast, also helpful suggesting local shops to go too! We went twice during our trip to Modica
Hannah B — Google review
Everything was excellent but the cassata adamo was something else. Sweet but not overly, light and with Modica chocolate pieces. Also great brioche, cremolate di limone and you have to try the freddo cappucino alla ricotta
Gonçalo C — Google review
Excellent ice cream and service - we got to have a free taster of their Easter cake and water. The ice cream was amazing with a generous portion. Would recommend.

I am visiting my boyfriend’s hometown of Modica from London and of all the places he has taken me this is by far my favourite place that I hope that I will continue to come to. The people are kind, warm and friendly and the cremolate is the best food I have had so far in Sicily. Not only this, but I went to collect some coffee beans and an espresso cup and saucer as a gift for my family and friends and they were so helpful and kind and went above and beyond by going to a separate place to vacuum the coffee beans packet to keep them fresh on my return journey to London. Grazie mille amici miei.

Especially creamy and delicious ice cream. It’s overwhelming how many different different tastes they have. The only “negativeness “ is that you can hardly choose something because you would love to taste it all ☺️

L'arte del Cioccolato Torrone Cannolo is a renowned chocolate shop in Modica, Sicily, known for its exceptional quality and freshness. Visitors praise the affordable prices and the fact that the chocolate is made on-site. Additionally, this establishment is celebrated for serving some of the best cannoli in Sicily, prepared to order for maximum freshness.
Best chocolate in Modica I have been to almost all of the chocolate shops and I would say this is the best. My reasoning comes down to 2 things. 1. the chocolate is fresh and cheap. 2. they make it there and the owner was nice.

(Translated by Google) During our stay in Sicily, we discovered this delicious artisanal pastry shop, which produces authentic Modica chocolate unlike any other! The owners are incredibly kind, and as soon as you enter their pastry shop, you can feel the history behind it and the passion they put into their work every day. When you enter, don't be fooled by the sparsely stocked display cases; they make everything fresh on the spot, so ask for whatever you want and it will be given to you! For breakfast, you absolutely must try the brioche and granita! The granitas are all delicious, but especially the almond one and the "incappucciata" coffee one with whipped cream! They also make all the almond paste cookies and gelato, as well as, of course, the chocolate, both in the classic bar form and the "Cuticci" version, inspired by the cobblestones typical of the city streets. If you find yourself in Modica, you can't miss it!

Fargione Gelatai • Fuori dal Comune is conveniently situated near the La Perla restaurant where many enjoyed their supper. It served as the final purchase made on Sicily before boarding the bus to catch the ferry back to Malta. The gelato shop offered a wide selection of attractive pastries, but being unfamiliar with abundant gelato options in America, visitors opted for this delightful treat instead and were not disappointed.
By far the best hazelnut ice cream I have ever eaten in my life and I'm not exaggerating. The canoli are a dream. They have a seemingly endless selection of cakes and baked goods. It's a family owned business and they are truly proud of what they do. I also tried their creation ciuri ciuri a mix of pistachio almonds and something else. Very delicious 😋 but I fell in love with their hazelnut ice cream nothing could best that. They also have a very good selection with vegan bin dairy flavours for those who can't or don't want to eat milkproduce. They are super super friendly very patient with us (obvious tourists).Space inside is limited, but they did a great job providing seats outside. When we visited it was mid March, so too cold to be outside.there were a lot of locals that coming to eat or drink something. That's always a good sign. Prices are appropriate not too expensive.

Conveniently located next to the La Perla restaurant we had supper at, this was our very last purchase made on Sicily before heading back to our bus to catch the ferry back to Malta. Many attractive pastries were also available but as Americans not always accustomed to having wide availability of gelato in our country, we chose gelato instead and were not disappointed. The 2 mini cones stuck atop each of our generously filled gelato cups really tickled us. Cute presentation. Nice folks. Tasty gelato. A full 5 stars.

What a lovely guy Giorgio is - we visited in 2016, just looked in the door and in 5 minutes he had us making ciocolata a la modica. Neither of us spoke the same language but it was a riot! You cant buy this sort of thing, it was molto speciale.
Dwayne P — Google review
Giorgio and his shop are the hidden gem of the city. In a city of chocolate covered in big tourist attractions and very good chocolate this place is quiet and unassuming. Do not let that fool you, this man makes the best chocolate in the entire city, honestly it’s the best chocolate I have ever had and the highest cocoa content I found among the different ones I purchased. He is beyond friendly, he let us try all his different flavors and they all packed 10x the flavor as any other chocolate in the city. Most of the pepper chocolate had hints of pepper his had a real bite. The hazel nut, lemon and orange were incredible, and his hot cocoa was rich and delicious. I ended up buying more chocolate bars here than any other shop I went into. By talking to him even through translation I could sense his passion for what he made, he referred to his kitchen in the back as his “laboratory” and the things that came out of it blew me away. I honestly have half a mind to move here and study under this man in the art of chocolate because I have always liked chocolate but never knew it could taste this good. Beyond words Bravo!!

Hannah B — Google review
We stepped into a small pastry shop and were immediately immersed in Giorgio’s world of chocolate magic. We were warmly welcomed and offered samples of his handmade chocolates, crafted with different flavors in "Giorgio’s laboratory." The chocolates have a unique texture and taste—characteristic of Modica chocolate—but with very intense and distinct flavors (cinnamon, chili, coffee...). In addition to the chocolates, we tasted and bought some fantastic marzipan pastries, as well as the unusual but incredibly tasty mpanatigghi—a true specialty of Modica. To top it all off, we enjoyed an amazing granita bursting with rich fruity flavor. Giorgio speaks only Italian, but you’ll easily understand everything he wants to share through his immense enthusiasm and love for what he does. Highly recommended!

The cakes at Dolci di Antonio, also known as Pasticceria Dolcesalato di Antonio Pitino, are renowned for their exceptional quality and taste.
(Translated by Google) It is known that Modica has a highly respectable confectionery and pastry tradition. As far as I'm concerned, "Dolcesalato" is probably the first among the first. The fresh pastries (cakes, pastries...) are delicious, the tea biscuits are refined and very assorted, and the little sweets are absolutely worth trying. In summer the ice cream shop (ice cream cakes, mini and maxi cones, frozen mini pastries, semifreddos and, finally, the legendary "hedgehogs") is truly unmissable. The woman, in addition to letting us taste various types of chocolate, explained the uniqueness of Modica chocolate, which is cold-processed and therefore preserves the sugar crystals that don't melt during processing. This tradition was brought by the Spanish, who in turn learned it from the Mayans. We purchased several bars ranging from 70% to 100% chocolate, orange peels, and a traditional fig and almond nougat. (Original) Ottima cioccolata e prodotti dolciari tipici siciliani.

(Translated by Google) I'm not questioning the quality, but rather the service. The package arrived open without a piece of the order, with no notification or signature from me (obviously, I wouldn't have accepted the package). The company told me it wasn't their fault and they couldn't do anything. So? The customer is paying for things they didn't receive. It's not the money lost, but rather the company's actions, which, due to a (probably) bad-faith error on the part of the courier, are missing, resulting in the loss of the customer. My response: the email you sent me is a perfectly fair response to the customer (even though I still haven't received anything after 10 days), but what you said on the phone is the real problem: treating a customer like a piece of junk. Update: I received the shipment of the missing piece, thank you.

Madiha O — Google review
(Translated by Google) Even considering the low propensity for innovation and variety of choice in pastry shops in Modica, Mignon's offering is almost a miracle. When elsewhere you always find only the classic traditional sweets made with the recipes of your ancestors (sacrilege to modify them!), here you immediately notice that there is a desire to offer something different. There is a correct entrepreneurial spirit that can be seen in some things, such as when for example they make you try a new cream or pastry; or when even if you show up later than the peak time you always find a certain variety, a modus operandi unknown to many other pastry shops where the right amount is prepared but often not enough and whoever arrives later sticks around. The flavors of the creams are correct, good. As is right, custard has one flavour, white another, Chantilly another (there are some patissier "chefs" who have yet to understand this). I recently tried his stuffed panettone: really good. The place has light and bright environments, they convey a sense of cleanliness which is important for a pastry shop. A couple of tips: ok at Mignon it's all mignon, but there are some desserts that should also be offered in normal sizes such as babà or cannoli. Plastic spoons must be kept available to allow the customer to be able to taste or consume some pastries that are difficult to eat with bare hands. A final suggestion for the chef: "Do we want to offer those successful sweets called cassatelle di Agira in Modica too?" I don't think it will be difficult for him to achieve them. 5 stars! 5 stelle!
