Partnachklamm, located in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, is a narrow and picturesque gorge featuring waterfalls and a walkway, making it a popular destination for hikers. During winter, torch hiking tours are available in the area, offering an exciting way to experience the beauty of the gorge. The 703m long and 80m high Alpine wonder provides breathtaking views of spraying waterfalls, rapids, and calm basins.
A Must-Visit for Nature Lovers! 💚🏞️ Partnachklamm is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited — truly a wonder created by nature. If you ever get the chance, this place is an absolute must-visit! I wish I could go there again. The whole experience feels magical. The stunning gorge, the flowing river, and the natural ambience — it’s honestly hard to describe in words. You’ll be walking along the riverbanks, and much of the path runs through tunnels where it feels like it’s raining inside. It’s such a unique and refreshing feeling. A quick tip: If you can handle the cold, it’s better to wear shorts or something you can easily fold up. The pathway can get wet, and your clothes might get dirty by the time you exit the gorge. But if you’re sensitive to cold, make sure to carry a jacket with you. If you love nature, adventure, and breathtaking views, you’re definitely going to love this place!

A must visit for all people who like walking though nature. This place is amazing and so beautiful. U walk through it and wonder how nature works and see that if u leave nature to itself it does amazing things. People with wheelchair, strollers and people with walking handicap will have a hard time walking though here. Also when u go through the gorge is good to have a flash light, waterproof clothing and hiking booth.
Mary L — Google review
Beautiful experience! The Partnachklamm is very well maintained and easy to follow, with clear paths and a nicely mapped route through the gorge. It’s a relatively easy hike. It can get a bit crowded on weekends, but the scenery more than makes up for it. After exiting the gorge, there are plenty of hiking trails to choose from if you’d like to continue exploring. Highly recommended!
Andrej I — Google review
Amazing place, gorgeous. Nature is impressive and the power of water is very obvious here. Some parts are rather dark though, so maybe bring a torch or just use your mobile phone for lighting. The paths are narrow in some parts but seeing that there wasn't too much going on, it was not a problem. I can imagine that it might be bothersome on busy day.
Caughtbyfantasy — Google review
Visiting Partnachklamm – Beautiful, But Overpriced Partnachklamm (Partnach Gorge) is undeniably a natural wonder and a must-see if you're in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area. The gorge is stunning, with its narrow passageways, towering limestone walls, and the sound of rushing water echoing through the canyon. It's an impressive display of raw natural beauty that photographers and nature-lovers will absolutely appreciate. However, the experience does come with a downside: the entrance fee. At €10 per adult (as of 2025), it feels steep for what is essentially a short, 700-meter walk through the gorge. While the path is well-maintained and safety measures are clearly in place, the high price doesn’t quite match the duration or complexity of the attraction. There's no guided experience included, and facilities are fairly basic. If you're traveling with a family or on a budget, the cost can add up quickly. It would be more reasonable if the ticket included access to nearby trails or some additional interpretive content about the geology and history of the gorge. In short: Pros: Stunning scenery, unique experience, easily accessible. Cons: Short walk, crowded during peak hours, and overpriced for what you get. Worth visiting once, especially if you've never seen a gorge like this before — but be prepared to pay more than you'd expect for a brief nature walk.
Virgiele C — Google review
It’s a beauty. Observing the gorge and the surrounding was a very nice adventure. Obviously it might get a bit crowded especially on the weekends but the beauty wouldn’t allow anything to interfere. There is also a very nice hike route right after the gorge. Totally recommend.
Ali — Google review
Amazing experience walking along the catwalk and carved path through this glacial slot canyon! The water is clear and tinted ice-blue, rushing, and slicing through space that seems only a few feet wide, while you walk through cavernous tunnels and under overhangs. And then, coming out the other side, you get to walk back above and over it all! What a fun hike!! Just be prepared for some steep walking with good shoes, water, and a flashlight for those dark sections!
Brian B — Google review
An unusual gorge. I've been to many, but this one is very interesting. There are many sections where you simply walk through a narrow tunnel right in the cliff. A lot of people. Obviously, this place is very popular.

AlpspiX is a popular lookout platform that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the mountains and valleys. It was opened in July 2010 and features two steel footbridges crossing over each other in the shape of an X, protruding 25 meters off the side of the mountain. The platform provides superb views of Zugspitze and the surrounding mountains, as well as a panorama of Hollental valley 1000 meters below.
The hike from Alpspitze to Kreuzeck was an incredible experience. The breathtaking mountain views were truly stunning. The weather was perfect – sunny, but not too hot, which made the hike even more enjoyable. Interestingly, I didn’t encounter many tourists along the trail, allowing me to fully embrace the peace and closeness to nature. It was a calm and relaxing hike, perfect for disconnecting from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Adam A — Google review
When planning our trip to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, I was initially hesitant about spending the money to ride up the mountain—but it was absolutely worth it. The sheer scale of the mountains and the breathtaking views from the top are impossible to fully appreciate until you’re there. I took dozens of photos, but none of them truly capture the experience—this is something you need to see for yourself. We chose to hike back down, and the trails were clearly marked and well maintained. Our goal was to reach the Partnach Gorge, but a trail closure due to a damaged bridge forced us to take a 1.5-mile detour. If you're planning to hike, I recommend checking ahead for any trail closures so you can adjust your route as needed. This was a highlight of our trip and something I’d recommend to anyone visiting the area.

First time in my life going up this high. I have a fear of heights but in a very specific way. Tip if you do too: Do NOT get on the Alpspix platforms. ...But otherwise it was very nice! I enjoyed the views a lot and I would love to come back here one day.

This place is just amazing If you are a mountain and nature lover you must visit it. Easy access, safe and many activities to do(walking, running, bicycle) And the view is just amazing !!!!!
Bricks — Google review
Breathtaking experience and vistas. We were completely in awe. Felt like we were in heaven. Others must have felt it too as everyone up there seemed to be making an effort to stay as quiet as possible, as if not wanting to disrupt the peace and quiet. Must visit if skies are clear.
Sumitra N — Google review
Excellent experience. There is a restaurant at the base of the mountain and one on top. You can toggle between two different mountain tops and all of them have a restaurant. The views are amazing and it is very kid friendly as well.
Adam S — Google review
Amazing experience. I was up there by myself and it was so peaceful. Only setback is train is once an hour so I missed the train on my way back to Garmisch. But in the end the walk was beautiful. So not a bad thing!

Arenas & Stadiums
The Olympic Ski Jump, located in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, is a modern structure built on the site of a 1920s ski jump. It features a 100m-long start tower and hosts weekly tours for visitors. The stadium gained international fame during the 1936 Olympic Games and continues to be a popular attraction today. Situated in the Bavarian Alps, it offers a glimpse into Germany's sporting history and hosts various international and local sporting events.
The Ski Jump offers a dramatic blend of Olympic legacy, cutting-edge design by Zaha Hadid, and sweeping Alpine panoramas. Originally constructed in the 1920s and revamped for the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics—most recently rebuilt in 2003—this hill is a key stop on the Four Hills Tournament circuit . A fascinating historical layer adds depth to the visit: this hill and its surroundings were pivotal during the Tyrolean Rebellion of 1809 under Andreas Hofer—visitors can learn about these local “hostage” dramas and resistance stories during guided tours . Just downstream lies the stunning Partnachklamm, a 700 m gorge carved by the Partnach River near the Olympic stadium. A popular yet serene spot, it features waterfalls, carved tunnels, and rock walls soaring up to 80 m—perfect for a post-jump riverside hike . Visitors will find a small free parking lot near the base, plus a larger paid garage—both well signed. The on-site Sky Café serves hearty Tyrolean fare with spectacular views, and there are additional dining options near the stadium . One downside: the restrooms may benefit from better upkeep . Overall, the Bergisel jump is more than just a sports venue—it's a multifaceted experience combining historic drama, architectural beauty, alpine landscape, convenient parking, riverside hiking at Partnachklamm, and café culture.

This is a huge structure. Really impressive to actually watch someone on the jump. So brave (or foolish).

This place is open to visit for free to all the visitors. It is just at the starting point of famous tourist spot called Partnachklamm. Olympic events took place at this venue. Also this is available for skiing in winter at certain cost. This ramp is really big and there is a hotel at the bottom of the ramp.

Museum Werdenfels is a captivating attraction located in the charming town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. Housed in a 17th-century merchant's home, this museum offers an immersive experience into the local history and culture of the Werdenfels region. Visitors can explore a diverse collection of artifacts including archaeological finds from ancient trade routes, religious objects, carnival masks, folk art, and antique furnishings.
Housed in a 17th-century mansion belonging to a merchant, the Werdenfels Museum was created in 1895 from a private collection. Currently, the place consists of historic artifacts, documents, folk art, religious and sacred objects, art décor items and also prehistoric and archaeological relics from the Werdenfelser region. Walk in and you see just how the Alpine life was a couple of centuries back. The everyday objects reconstruct the bygone era. You can find old wagons, chariots, photographs, beautiful wooden furniture, personally owned objects, and tools that were used by the people of the region. The crafts section and the carnival exhibit that is showcased here that includes colorful masks and portrays the history of the festival are the highlights of the museum.

Nestled in the picturesque town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Wallfahrtskirche St. Anton is a stunning example of Rococo architecture, constructed between 1708 and 1738. This beautiful pilgrimage church features an eye-catching onion dome that can be seen from afar. Originally home to a small chapel built by cousins Jakob and Johann Lidl in the 17th century, it was transformed into its current form after the Spanish War of Succession.
I love this beautiful church with dozens of thought-provoking framed photos of young German soldiers lost in the world wars. Poignant and peaceful in a lovely setting.
Curtis C — Google review
I'd bet many Americans don't get to this out-of-the-way beautiful yet moving place. It was memorable and moving to my wife and I. Moving because it is not only clearly Holy, but also a statement as to the follies of men when they choose war. The many little plaques, and this is only one wall among many, not only here but throughout Germany, that speak of their war losses. Then the oil painting pictures combantants, and the translation basically thanks God that their prayers asking for no bombing were answered. (Perhaps a German could provide us an accrurate translation?) The combination of the painting with all those plaques created in me a very reflective mood. It's a beautiful church in a lovely location and a nice hike, whether going up the mountain and then walking down or walking up from Partenkirchen.
Jerome E — Google review
Beautiful place _ worth visit
Kokaroll — Google review
We discovered this place on our hike, not realising it was only minutes from our hotel. It's both a beautiful and moving church which acts as a memorial for the wars. It's a must-visit and I got more from this than most "tourist war memorials".
Jonathan G — Google review
Beautiful walk, beautiful church that I had the pleasure of visiting during a stage towards the Tannehütte route. A place of prayer disfigured (in my opinion) by the presence of numerous plaques of Nazi soldiers who fell in war. A reprehensible presence.
L P — Google review
Beautiful church interior. Painful reminder of the world wars on the way in through the main entrance from the Philosopher's path stairs (all the pictures of children parents would never see again). Worth a visit and you can reward the kids with a trip to the playground afterward.
K - — Google review
A very silent place, where you can feel beavenly. The walk up the hill is also mesmerising, with a silent gush of the wind, and a view of the whole town on one side. The church is very peaceful, as expected.

Kuhflucht Waterfalls, located near Farchant in Germany, is a stunning natural attraction featuring three steep and rocky waterfalls set amidst forested walking trails. These falls are among the tallest in the country, with a height of 270 meters. The area offers picturesque views of Garmisch and the Zugspitze, making it perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and photography lovers.
Pictures NEVER do a place justice. This is a beautiful trail with at least 3 falls, the bigger one being the one noted in Google Maps. Definitely worth a visit. The water is ice cold and you get a good mist standing at the bigger water fall. I am sure this would be amazing in the summer! The trail is a bit steep in some sections, but very well maintained. No stairs to the falls, but I’m not sure I’d brave taking a stroller on this trail. I don’t recommend flip-flops. Wear at least some solid hiking sandals. Closed sports / hiking shoes are best, but some of you people just have to have free feet or something. Wear flip-flops at your own risk! 🤣
A. F — Google review
Nice walk, family friendly, but not suitable for baby buggies, as the last part is very steep in some places. I recommend you take hiking sticks along.
EMK T — Google review
Scenic waterfalls can be found with a moderate hike of approximately 400 meters in elevation gain. This path is less frequented by crowds, and the summit offers breathtaking views. It is a family-friendly destination, suitable for both adults and children.
Sreedhar K — Google review
If you like scenic trails and want an outdoor experience with beautiful views of Garmisch and the Zugspitze this place is one of many around this area to get some great exercise and photos. If you haven’t hiked up to straight across eye level be prepared. Level of difficulty is a 4 out of 5. You must wear proper hiking gear. Check the weather forecast. Backpack with water and food. A full battery for your cellphone. Walking stick. If you are out of shape do not attempt. Coming down will weaken your legs. It’s is steep and many treacherous exposed tree roots to trip over.
Edward M — Google review
This is a real find. It's a beautiful spot that is really accessible to most, the path is a well maintained gravel path. You could reach the main bridge with the big waterfalls in 45 minutes, but it would be better to enjoy the journey and longer at the many spots where you can see the cascading water work its way down into the valley. To note: the way up is the way down. We parked at the sports field, but there are several points to access this trail.
Timothy H — Google review
It was a wonderful visit. The natural beauty is surreal. The waterfall and the river is delight to watch. The hike is steep so I would rate it medium, depending on what time you plan to visit. The trail is sometimes slippery because of frozen steps.
Sabin B — Google review
This waterfall is amazingly beautiful. It takes about 30 minutes or so walking from Farchant train or bus station to this waterfall. Along the way, you will enjoy the views of the forest around. This is an easy to medium hiking as the mountain is a bit steep for some parts. But it is really worth the effort. This place is a must for hikers. You will thank me for recommending this waterfall to you.
Chananart C — Google review

Mountain cable car
Zugspitze, the highest peak in Germany, offers a breathtaking experience for visitors. Whether you're ascending via the modern cable car or the cogwheel train, the journey to this pinnacle is as awe-inspiring as the destination itself. At almost 3,000 meters high, it provides unparalleled panoramic views across four nations. The newer cable cars since 2017 offer a faster ride and clearer vistas.
It was very well organized, one of my favorite places in Germany . Was windy that day, but it was fun . The food is very good . Scenes make you feel above the world . Suitable for all ages, especially if you are a ski type . You can't get bored from going there 🥰.
Ahmed S — Google review
Visiting Zugspitze was an incredible experience — we were lucky to have beautiful weather, which made the views even more stunning. We bought a cable car ticket for €66, which takes you all the way to the peak of Germany’s highest mountain. The ride itself is smooth and scenic, and once you reach the top, you’re greeted with breathtaking, snow-clad mountain views — truly a sight to remember! After spending some time at the peak, we took another cable car to the glacier area, which is open depending on the season. The views here were even more spectacular, and we got to see people skiing, which added to the lively atmosphere. One thing to note: the last cable car down is at 4:45 PM, so make sure to plan your visit accordingly to make the most of your day. Highly recommended for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone looking to experience the beauty of the Alps.
Swapna S — Google review
We visited Zugspitze hoping for those famous panoramic views from Germany’s highest peak — but the weather had other plans! The skies stayed cloudy and we didn’t catch the 360° vistas, but to our surprise, it started snowing — in June! ❄️ Despite the limited visibility, the experience was still magical. Riding the cable car up through the clouds, then stepping out into a snow-covered summit was surreal. The observation decks and facilities are very well maintained, and there’s still a thrill in knowing you’re standing at 2,962 meters above sea level. We’ll definitely come back on a clearer day — but even with the clouds, Zugspitze gave us a unique and memorable adventure!
Shreya G — Google review
Incredible experience. We took the cable car and the views were amazing. You can walk around and eat lunch at the top. Would definitely recommend having a glass of wine down by the lake after!

worth the 75 euro ticket - beautiful views from the highest point of germany. very well maintained. good food and drink options available. recommend the short via ferrata to the peak!
Minty C — Google review
What a great place! We visited in July 2024 and the weather was perfect. We went earlier in the day so we were able to get in and our before the clouds came in and obstructed the views. Saying the views are spectacular does not do it justice. They are amazing and go for miles. The staff that we encountered were very kind and helpful. They spoke enough English that we were able to get by easily. The temperature was a bit cooler up there, than at the bottom so please keep that in mind, but it felt great and we loved it! The winds are also a little more brisk, but again they felt great. We were able to get around up there easily and even the one in our party that is scared of heights was able to navigate up there easily. Would recommend and we will be back when in the area!

Location is so great, my kids were so happy to ski there. Even beginners were enjoying it. I spent full day in the restaurant watching my kids

O man what a great place! The kids went skiing for the first time and we enjoyed watching them while sipping our beer. There was plenty of food options and great indoor and outdoor seating. Can’t wait to go back to check it out sometime soon

I grew up in GAP and see a very positive development. My mom still lives here, so I‘m coming back for family reasons from time to time, but I have to admit, that in the meantime, when people ask if it‘s worth a visit I‘m feeling comfortable to confirm. It‘s not an Austrian style small snowy ski village in the middle of the slopes, but you can have a good time skiing in GAP for a few days for sure! There is something for everyone, but I would recommend it for a skill level above beginners. There are no wide flat slopes from button to top. It more offers a wide variety of slopes - also some interesting once for experts. But you also can learn to ski here. I did and so my kids are doing right now.

I love Garmisch Klassik. The ski area offers not only the fantastic 3.6 km long World Cup Kandahar downhill run but also other great runs. Fantastic!!

Great place to ski. Many runs to choose from. Make sure to hit it in January and February when the snow pack is the best.

Great ski resort. Pretty easy to navigate. Pistes for all types of abilities. Lift ticket was reasonably priced too. Parking was also reasonably priced

A wonderful place and a piece of heaven indeed. Cable cars are available all the time during winter season and slopes are so great for skiing. Beginners, intermediates or advanced will have fun there. The view from above is amazing. Staff there are helpful. The bar up there is full of all kinds of hot & cold drinks, food and alcohols. Prices are ok. Highly recommended for families as children can have their own part of the fun.

Absolutely amazing. Phenomenal runs and great views. When it comes to the alps Garmisch is on the easier end. The runs are long, wind through the mountain, and very enjoyable. Highly recommend if looking for beginners and experienced skiers/boarders that want more than downhill slopes.

Eckbauerbahn is a popular cable car and mountain destination, perfect for families with children. The area offers stunning panoramic views of the Alps and provides sled rentals for an enjoyable experience with young ones. Additionally, visitors can find a restaurant and playground at the top, making it an ideal spot for families to spend quality time together. Despite initial concerns about pricing, many agree that the breathtaking views and overall experience make it well worth the cost.
We came here on a Sunday after a small snow storm came through the night before. It was a great excursion for a day, riding the gondola to the top of the mountain and sledding at the top. They have sled rentals for 10€ a person and there’s a restaurant up there as well. The restaurant was a little pricey, but the food was amazing. Beautiful views and relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend visiting in the winter, and I’m sure summer time will be beautiful as well — and you can do some hiking too!
Tela R — Google review
Make sure to look up conditions on the hill before going. It looks like a pretty good area but it was completely covered in ice when we came making walking very dangerous, let alone using the playground or sledding or skiing.

First of all, if you want to came here, you better be coming in the morning, because even in working day ,in our case Friday, it was so busy that we end up looking for parking an our. The ride from the top was awesome, great looking wiews, when you are at the top of the mountain, there is playground for kids, and 50 meters away there is restorant with great prices. There is a road, down the hill, where you can walk, and go to Partnamklam ,I don't know the name correctly, you will get there about 1our and 15 min. Enjoy the wiews 😊

Alpspitzbahn Station is the base for gondola transport up Alpspitze mountain, offering a quick and easy way to reach the AlpspiX viewing platform. The station has nearby restaurants and ski rental facilities. Visitors can enjoy beautiful views on the cable car ride up and down, with a capacity of almost 50 people per trip. The area offers hiking opportunities and stunning panoramic views. Despite being less famous than Zugspitze, many visitors find it more enjoyable.
Beautiful and cheaper experience compared to the zugspitzebahn. We arrived at about 10 am on a monday in holiday season but we had the to ourselves it seemed. Nice place for hiking and enjoying the natural alpine environment.
Ivo H — Google review
We couldn't have picked a better day than this to ride the gondola up to view Alpspitz. The correct parking lot was a little tricky to find, and we had to walk a way to the station. But once there, the lines were short and we were able to purchase tickets and hop on a gondola within 20 minutes. The views were spectacular. There are many trail options once at the top. We decided just to relax on the patio and take in the view with lunch, which was delicious. An amazing experience.

Nice ride to Alpspitze 😁 summer 2025 the price was okay with 39 euros for a return. Nice restaurants at the top and very good hiking possibility at the top, with spectacular view towards Garmish P. And the Valley...

Great service offering a quick and easy way to the the AlpspiX viewing platform! There's a cable car every 10 minutes and almost 50 people can fit in one go. Although in corona times, they usually keep just 20-25 at a time. It's clean, well maintained and has a huge free parking lot. Found the prices to be expensive though. But totally worth the experience!

What a lovely place I’ve been to with my family! Very nice and relaxing with lots of walking and stores open. A wide selection of restaurants from different places, and a very nice park just near the casino in front of the fountain. We took a stroll around the park and enjoyed the beautiful Sounds of Nature and the small Trailwalk leading up to a small Bavarian themed carnival, which only had a carousel and about five other games, such as hit the darts. Keep in mind that most stores around this place closes around 6 o’clock so if you’re coming here I suggest coming out around 2 PM staying for about two hours just the perfect amount of time you need for this beautiful place.

Great moderate hike starting from the Partnachklamm exit. The trail takes about two hours, mostly on wide and well-maintained paths, with handrails in steeper spots and benches along the way for breaks. At the top you’re rewarded with stunning views of the Alps. The Alm serves cold beer and tasty food, making it the perfect finish to the hike. A very rewarding experience!

Burgruine Werdenfels, located just north of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany, is a 13th-century castle ruin perched 80 meters above the valley. The area around Lake Eibsee offers mountain biking opportunities with diverse trails and stunning views.
Nice, little ruins. Can see the valley and the mountains which were being to be snow covered. Nice walk up, stopped at a waterfall before the castle ruins. Stop at the Burgruine Wedernfels Hütte, a very charming restaurant right before the ruins. Good hearty food, nice atmosphere.

Beautiful and nice castle ruins in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. I came to the trail head by public bus, then hiked for 30 minutes or so to the castle ruins. The ruins are wonderful and this spot is calm and peaceful. It is perfect for hikers. The views from the top is awesome. I came on a sunny day in Autumn, the scenery is amazing. Recommended to nature lovers.
Chananart C — Google review
The ruins are beautifully placed on the mountain giving a perfect view of the valley. From the parking lot at Pfleger See (Berggasthof Pflegersee) you can walk to the ruins through the forest in 20-30 minutes. It’s an easy walk – just up and down some small hills. On the way you can find different information boards telling about the castles history (I think the first board is right at Pfleger See). After the tour you can take a swim in Pfleger See and eat at the Berggasthof. Menu, quality and prices are medium but fair.

Plus, the staff are friendly and trained in various skill ranges, so your family can have lots of fun no matter their level of expertise.

Fuengirola L — Google review
A multi-functional ice sports facility located in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. Affordable, and accessible, the location offers fun for the entire family, just beware there are crowds of unattended children skating and falling on various directions and thus, ice skating may not be fun for all and at time even somewhat perilous ⚠️ Without many alternatives nearby in the tourist town, the location remains a popular destination for ice skating, ice hockey, curling, and figure skating. The stadium is open to the public for recreational skating during specific hours, and rental skates are available on-site, making it accessible even for beginners willing to learn while dodging unattended children and inattentive adults. It often hosts professional ice sports events, so it’s a good idea to check the schedule in advance to avoid conflicting with event days. The facility is well-maintained and offers a family-friendly atmosphere, with options for spectators to watch games or performances. There’s a small café where visitors can grab a snack or warm drink. Also a few vending machines offering drinks and snacks. Parking is available nearby, but during peak times or events, it’s advisable to arrive early to secure a spot unless you are forced to resort to the other paid parking lots nearby. Dress warmly, as it can get cold inside the rink, even if you’re not skating but beware your belongings as you may leave them while you skate. For those looking to try ice sports for the first time, staff members are generally helpful, and lessons may be available depending on the season. The stadium is in a beautiful alpine setting, so you can combine your visit with other activities in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, such as skiing or exploring the town.

We Danes get to see our beautiful Garmisch-Partenkirchen at least once on New Year's Day, when the world-famous Skijump competition is held. We normally snuggle up on the sofa with a bag of delicious chips, trying to cure a post-party hangover. It's so different though when you're actually there! Without any snow and the stadium closed in the summer, you can really see the historical elements of the place, including some really interesting bits from the Second World War (like the emblems). We did a quick walk around the grounds, made a few touristy pictures and left after having a great time. It's definitely worth a visit!

Fantastic cable car! You can get out halfway and we thought that was it and were happy but then you do the other half ascent! Just wow! You are in the clouds, above the clouds and it is just awesome 🥰 helpful staff who understood our English. Love Germany 🇩🇪 and its beautiful natural landscape. Pictures will never do it justice 🥰

Amazing half-day trip! Plenty of parking (€6 for a day ticket). No waiting line for the cable car. The views on the way up are great, and the view from the top is absolutely amazing. There are places to eat at the base and the top (prices differ), and lots of seating. Great for kids too! Highly recommend for an easy, scenic outing.

Amazing views! Best thing to do on a Sunday when most things are closed. Went in mid-October. Was worried about visibility the day we had tickets for but cleared the cloud line about halfway up, and was warmer at the top. Beers at the summit restaurant paired perfectly with the view. Did not disappoint!

Station for the cable car to go to the top of the mountain. Staff at the ticket counter are friendly and helpful to get the best value. We went to mittelstation and then hiked the rest of the way up that was very gruelling. Would bot recommend hike from the base to the summit as no real views and first section is fairly boring. Cable cars fit four normal size people and had great views

A nice excursion! The Wank cable car is almost antique, which is interesting and nice too. At the summit, there are easy walkways suitable for the elderly.

I personally hiked the mountain and found it very nice. Most of the route was relatively easy and suitable for most people. Plan for 5-6 hours up and down.

Railway services
The Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Mountain Railway is a narrow-gauge cogwheel railway that takes you to Germany's highest point at 2650 meters above sea level. You can bring your furry friend on the train and some cable cars, and further information can be obtained at the reception. The ticket from Garmisch costs 63 euros per adult, and it's advisable to bring a sweater as it gets cooler at the top.
We visited this past week. We took the train up to the Zugspitze and the Cable Car back down. It was a perfect day. Clear, slight chill in the air at the top which was refreshing. The views of the mountains and lakes were amazing. Staff everywhere was helpful and friendly. This was worth every penny for the entire visit. We ended up walking from Grainau back into Garmish to the train station. The walk was about 6.6KM and the scenery, landscape, and views were amazing. Highly recommend!! We had a blast.
Michael M — Google review
Cogwheel train ride starts from here and its up to Zugspitz. This station is just a 5 minute walk from the 'Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bahnhof (Main station)'. Full ride is about 70 minutes with hourly departures. You can experience Zugspitz and Obersee . Make sure to come early atleast 30-45 min before train departure as they limit capacity of people that can get inside and it’s first come first serve basis. It is very overcrowded! Winter time they closed the ticket sale early. Some people missed the train rise because the ticket sale was closed for the day, however next day ticket was available. So please plan accordingly. Check the schedule for times because it does not run late in the evening. Best way to buy ticket in advance and reach there early on the journey date. Ticket price is expansive (72 euro). The train goes very slowly and passes through a very long tunnel. If you want to enjoy the scenic view, then try for cable car. However, still it will be a pleasant and enjoyable journey through the mountain. This cogwheel rail will take you from Garmisch to Eibsee, you can take a cable car from Eibese else you can continue this train till Zugspitzplatt. You can take this train one way to the top and return it by cable to the Eibese.
Animesh P — Google review
What a waste of time and money! It is the highest summit of Germany and yes the view is nice. But… The cable car was under maintenance and we had to take the train up to Zugspitze. It only went every other hour - we waited after ticket purchases (75€ per person!!) for 45min. Then it was so crowded that we had to stand in a very warm and smelly train. That train takes 45 min up the mountain. Lucky us it got stuck in a tunnel for 1h until we needed to leave the train and board another. Over all it took up our entire day and a lot of nerves and energy!! And when we were up, clouds covered Eibsee.. well - just take a nice hike instead or the cheaper ride to Wank!
Surftravel — Google review
This is not a cheap experience so you need to pick your day carefully weather wise. Go as early as you can. We went up at 9.30am which was great but as we were returning, coach loads and crowds of people were coming up. Once you buy the ticket, you can either go up on the fast cable car or the slow cog train, and coming back is the same - you choose. The train goes through the long mountain tunnel. It's very clean and spacious. I don't recommend buying advance tickets because if the weather is poor, you will see nothing!
Annie P — Google review
I visited here in Mid Aug 2022. You need to Buy ticket of 63 euro per adult from Garmisch. A little cooler up here, so bring a sweater. Lunch is a little expensive, but you pay for the view. Wear good walking shoes. You can also hike. Beautiful hike and great views from the peak! It’s definitely more rewarding to hike rather than to take the lift, and if you have an overnight at Knorhutte, it isn’t hard to hike both ways. Breathtaking views, few nice cafes on the top to go and enjoy a light snack/ meal or a coffee. Would really recommend, even if you aren’t a skier! The top of Germany is a wonderful tourist spot. There's a cogwheel train to take you up till the skiying ground and from there by cable car. There's another ropeway cable car that takes you from foothills to the peak. There are several viewing platforms and restaurants. The peak is divided between Germany and Austria.
STG — Google review
So you need the 75 euro round trip which covers the cog railway and the cable car there and back. Get the train from Garmisch to zugsplatz 75 euro for all this is cheep considering how expensive things are in london .
Bret S — Google review
I had the bad luck of bad weather, but it did not stop me from getting at the peak of the mountain. The train ride was amazing, very beautiful. The final stop was also nice, but i can imagine is much better in good weather. There is also a restaurant + a museum (which i did not visit)
Theo — Google review
Nice and small train, that brings you to such an amazing place :) I liked, that they showed on tv, almost in the end of journey, a bit of a history of a tunnel and especially, the possible escape from a tunnel in case of emergency. It also stops at some point and let you go outside to make pictures of a wonderful nature.

Ski resort
Hausbergbahn, located in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, offers a great experience for both skiing and hiking. The area provides stunning views and well-maintained trails. It's recommended for skiers of all levels, with friendly staff and a cozy place to relax after hitting the slopes. The location is convenient, with quick access to ski and sledging slopes for kids. While some visitors noted limited vegetarian options, the overall atmosphere is described as polite and respectful towards learners.
Absolutely gorgeous place to ski! With such beautiful mountain range with lovely members of staffs! I have skied in many different ranges across the globe, and the Hausbergbahn Bergstation Garmisch-Classic is one of the place I would recommend for any level of skiers. Friendly staffs, and great place for a pint to warm yourself up! When I was there, they had natural snow that it was a lot more fun and refreshing to ski on actual snow in a while!

Near to cable car station, friendly staff, quick access to small ski/sledge slope for kids. 1 less point for lack of vegetarian options .In today's times, having a tourist stop without vegetarian/non meat options(only pommes/French fries ) is market ignorance. :p . But at least they took card payments :) :)

Great ski venue. Lots of great blues, reds and blacks. No greens so beware! Typically well run by the Germans. Zugspitz is a must too. The slopes were v well maintained
Kenny N — Google review
I live in München and I hate it here. This is the worst ski place you can visit. On weekend especially! What makes it worse is the following: Ski slopes are barelly connected and barelly is really streatching it. Ofthen times you will have to push yourselves uphill with ski poles. Lifts are in generous word ancient. Yeah they will kinda argue that they are vintage and classic but thats just an excuse. Basically most important connecion lifts are two seaters. Yeah Im wish Im just angry and exaggerating. Buts its true. To be completely honest slopes are groomed and marked properly. Also the whole thing is really small, if there isn't such traffic one could go through all slopes in less then 2 hours. And last but not least pricing is just pure robbery. You pay €66 for day pas, like it's huge real ski resort and parking is not even included in the ticket. If you wanna see some world renovn ski resort you will not find it in Garmish they where popular back in 84' when Bosnia hosted Winter Olympic! Today its old small and run down expensive money grab. If there where 0 stars I would given it. Garmish if you are reading this, it's 25' nobody is using 2 seaters! Shame on you for pricing it like you did!
Senad C — Google review
We were there in the spring and it was great. We bought a combo ticket since it is only 10€ more to go up a second time. The second day we did the Garmisch Classic which is more for hiking than the Zugspitz which is mainly just to get a great view from high up (which was also great). Many of the trails were closed so if you are going for large hikes or want to go to the top be sure to check what is open but for us it was fine. The views are great and the trails are really well maintained. A great way to pass the day here.

Kreuzeckbahn Talstation offers a pleasant 10-minute ride with stunning views of the mountains and surrounding area. The cabin can accommodate around 10-12 people, and entry and exit are smooth. It's a great starting point for a combination trip, where you can see the Zugspitze and plan a scenic route using other cable cars like Hochalmbahn and Alpspitzbahn.
Not much to really say about this place. Just a cable car to the top of the hill. You can either take the garmisch classic ticket that covers both the upwards and return rides for 33 euros (as of this writing) or you can take a single journey one. Just make sure to check the timings for your plans. The ride itself has great views.
Vivek M — Google review
Fantastic ride up to the mountain right next to Zugspitze (Zugspitz cable car was closed for maintenance on that day). Return ticket permits using 3 Seilbahns on Kreuzeck, including a 1km stroll from one mountain station to the next. We loved the views and having lunch at the Berghütte.

Nice and quiet ride. Somewhat small gondolas, but nice and of course a spectacular view. Ends at 1700 meters. Possible to hike 325 to the top.

Romain P — Google review
DO NOT USE: The descent on the Kreuzeckbahn is shockingly overpriced — €23 per person for a five-minute ride with no clear pricing shown until after you’re already on the way down. There was no visible sign or warning at the top station, making it feel intentionally misleading. If you’re hiking, avoid this service entirely and walk down instead. Poor value and poor transparency.

Historical landmark
Riessersee is a picturesque small lake near Garmisch that offers a tranquil and beautiful outdoor experience. Surrounded by mountains, the lake provides stunning reflections on clear days. Visitors can easily access it from town by following a trail from the train tracks. The area also features remnants of an old bobsleigh track from the 1936 Winter Olympics. A walk around the lake takes about 45 minutes and there are amenities such as a restaurant, hotel, and paddle boat rentals available.
This lake was a hidden gem . It had great views of Zugspitze. There is a marked area for swimming and rentals (boat and SUP). Relatively less people a day the water was very clean. There is a bit of a climb (approx 80m elevation gain) when trying to reach here from Garmisch-Partenkirchen by foot.

Beautiful lake. Lovely for swimming and relaxing. Only downside was the area set aside for swimming that you had to pay for was quite small. Toilets and changing rooms avaliable.

I visited in the summer and was a bit disappointed. I didn't inform myself properly and didn't know that there was a bar, restaurant, and a hotel right by the lake. It was quite crowded and loud from tourists. The water wasn't cold and crystal clear but warm and muddy. It was nice anyway, just not what I expected.

The view is just worth it. You can walk around the lake and there’s a restaurant where you can sit near the lake and enjoy your meals. Its not expensive at all and the view is just worth watching.

After failing to park at the so-called eibsee, we happened to see a sign and went for a walk. I haven't enjoyed peace and quiet like this in a long time, instead of running to see this or that and jumping with the crowd. We just drank coffee basking in the sun and contemplating the majestic Alpine, snow-capped peaks. Small but 100% pleasure
U-Laz — Google review
This lake is nice, calm, peaceful and beautiful. It's on a mountain, so you have to hike up a bit. Walking around the lake would be nice, I suggest you to do it. It take 15 minutes or so to do that. There is a restaurant at the entrance you can enjoy some food and drink. If you are a nature lover or hiker, you should not miss this lake.

Königstand is a breathtaking vantage point that offers some of the most stunning panoramas of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the majestic Wetterstein Mountains. Perched approximately 700 meters above the town, reaching this scenic spot involves a challenging hike of about 4-5 kilometers each way, typically taking around two hours. The trail can be narrow in places, but it rewards adventurers with serene nature and spectacular views at the summit—especially if you’re lucky enough to have clear weather.
A must visit on the itinerary, when visiting Tirol/Bayern.

NEVER use the „Maurersteig“ if you’re a not a professional hiker!!! We chose this route and barely made it on top. If you still want to go - it’s better to leave your dog at home for this one. (Translated by Google) To my surprise, there was no Google Maps entry here, although this wonderful viewing plateau can be found on every hiking map in Garmisch and the surrounding area. Therefore it was created by me. It is listed as a summit at 1480 meters. The path there is identical to the climb to Kramer (Kramerspitz) up to a signposted fork. Due to the weather at the beginning of May, we took this shorter route (4 year old with baby carrier also included). It's a wonderful tour with fantastic views along the southern slope of the Kramer. The starting point is either the Bayernhalle (708 m) or the St. Martinshütte, which you have to hike to first. Ascent 2-3 hours, sure-footedness and a head for heights are no mistake here. The route should not be walked with flip flops.

Very disappointing fountain. Looked up fountains in GAP after a trail run in the heat to cool down and rest my tired little legs, only to find this fountain's water to be super murky and gross 🤢 Maybe it's a biotope now we can at least see some rare bog species in there in the near future...

(Translated by Google) Although it was covered, it suffered the same fate as the Richard Strauss Fountain in Munich. However, you can still see some of them and know their names are Salome, Electra and Daphne. It's worth it. It's okay if you squirt or not, and it's okay if you can't see them all. My only slight objection is, why not use the Marshal's wife? She should be more famous than Daphne, right? I know that Daphne is a Greek myth, Salome is a biblical story, and Electra is a Greek tragedy. They seem more suitable than the Marshal's wife or Sophie of Der Rosenkavalier. There are many opera roles, so it’s really difficult to choose.

We’ve been tobogganing a few places and this one was decent, but perhaps more geared for beginners than those wanting an exhilarating ride. It leaves from the middle station, which does have great views. You’ll then tap your ticket and go through a 2 minute walk in a tunnel before reaching the start. The run itself is a bit narrow, so usually just 1-2 people at a time in parallel. The incline wasn’t great, but it did have a lot of hairpin-like turns. When we were there it was a lot of beginners, so too narrow to pass in places, and when they were blocking the path we had to stop - and it was hard to get going again given the not-very-steep incline. At the end, it stops at the street (basically), so you have to walk about 5 minutes on the sidewalk/pavement to reach the gondola if wanting to go again. I also dislike Solder’s ticketing barricades generally as it feels you have to tap in everywhere (on the gondola, to get to the middle station restaurant, to enter the toboggan run) and my card seemed to be slow to react so would hold up the line. Tickets are easy to purchase at the bottom, and there are several toboggan rental places within 25-50 meters, which was very convenient.

(Translated by Google) Mountain Cart in Sölden – a mountain tour with speed and views On a sunny summer day in Sölden, the experience begins at the Gaislachkogel Mittelstation, where you are met by a number of sturdy three-wheeled carts – Mountain Carts – ready for the day’s descent. Helmets are handed out and a brief instruction is given, and the atmosphere is relaxed and expectant. Right from the start, you can feel that safety is in control and that the route has been well thought out. As soon as you get in the cart and roll out onto the gravel road, the mountain landscape opens up with impressive views of the snow-capped peaks and the green valley. The tour follows a winding route, where every bend provides a new perspective on the Alps – and new opportunities to feel speed and control. Along the way, you encounter wide bends, rocky passages and long stretches with plenty of room to give it a little extra gas. The surface changes between firm gravel and loose stones, but the wide wheels and low center of gravity of the cart make you quickly feel safe while driving. The kart itself feels solid and easy to operate. There is no engine – everything is done in freewheeling, controlled with hand brakes and weight shifting. It gives a fantastic feeling of freedom, where you can adjust the pace according to your desire and ability through the mountainside. The price for one trip is 31 euros for adults and 24 euros for children under 15. If you want more than one trip – which many do – there is a discount when purchasing multiple admission tickets. This makes it ideal to take several trips on the same day, especially if you are in a group or just want to experience the mountains from the cart again and again. When you reach the bottom, you are left with the feeling of having been on an adventurous journey. The combination of fresh mountain air, the adrenaline rush of the turns and the view that is almost indescribable makes the trip something truly special. It is an activity that does not require experience, but still gives a sense of both action and control. A perfect summer experience in the Alps – and definitely something you will want to repeat.

Alpspitz-Wellenbad is a facility that offers various swimming options. It has an outdoor pool and indoor pools equipped with slides and diving boards. Additionally, there are multiple saunas available for relaxation. This center also features a wave machine, flume, spa facilities, and family pools in its swimming area called the Swimming Pool. Moreover, the Ice Sports Centre within the resort provides both indoor and outdoor rinks for activities like ice skating or ice hockey.
Great local pool with a few different pools and slides. We went there at Easter and it was way way too cold for any outdoor swimming, but the indoor pools were fun. The main pool has a wave machine in it which made really big waves. We were there for an hour and the wave machine was only put on once but it lasted for what felt like a long time. It was super good fun. The kids' pool has a waterfall type umbrella in the middle and a powerful fountain spray up thing, but again these only came on once while we were there. Beside the main pool there's a terrifying diving pool, which was being used by some terrifying pre-teens. We stayed well clear. There are also are some cool looking flumes, but these weave in and out of the building and, again, it was simply too cold. There's free parking outside, the staff are friendly, the changing facilities are clean, the lockers easy to use and the hair dryers are (wait for it.....) free to use!! The no-charge hair drying was what swung the 5-star review but it's also just basically a good fun swimming pool.

I saw some of the complaints in other reviews but we had a great time. With your tourist pass if you stay in Garmisch you get free access for one day (note that you cannot leave and return though). The place has a lot of pools including for little ones, a wave pool, an Olympic pool for laps, a hot pool at 32° and two awesome slides; one regular which turns round and round and one that is just a drop. There are pools inside and outside, a play area and the staff was great. One issue I can agree with is that the hours and what is open can change randomly it seems, as the sauna was closed when we went. Also note some items cost extra including hot tubs or the sauna. Still we had a blast.
Michel C — Google review
They don't let anyone in one hour before closing and do not bother to mention it anywhere in their website. Doesn't matter for how long you want to stay there or if you have a free ticket or not. So for all of you who plan to get there for a hot sauna after a freezing hiking day (like I did, oh boy how disappointed I was to find that out), get there 1 hour before the official closing time.
Michael S — Google review
Great pool for families. In doors and out doors. Baby pool. Slide and diving boards. Quite cheap. 13 Euro for 3 hours for family of 4. You can also buy a ticket for all day and sit outside on the grass and enjoy the fantastic views. Well worth a visit.

Indoor and outdoor swimming! Olympic pool. High Jump platforms. Family friendly. Friendly staff! Happy hour/ reduced entrance prices Mon -Fri. Reduced schedule, closed at 20:00.
Gigi R — Google review
It's old, smells weird, you can't find a pool where you can really have fun, like the one in Farchant, here you're just swimming lanes, jumping from a driving board, using one of the two fun water slides, or in the warm pool. There is this one lifeguard who just has an arrogant way of existing, so I wouldn't recommend going there if you want to have fun. As always, the food and drinks are expensive. This is only my opinion and my experience, it can be different for you.
Benjamin G — Google review
They write it closes at 9pm but actually do not let you in after 8pm. Pretty bad experience to cross the city with my baby for a quick evening bath to be refused bluntly, "German" style.
Florian R — Google review
This place was my first experience with a real German sauna. Very relaxing, breathtaking views from the terrace, outstanding staff, and overall an incredible place to go relax. I highly recommend it!

Casino
Casinos & Gambling
Spielbank Garmisch-Partenkirchen is located in the heart of the popular Bavarian resort town, offering a sophisticated atmosphere for all classic casino games. Visitors can enjoy various card games and roulette on multiple tables, as well as electronic roulette options. The casino has friendly staff and a dress code that adds to its classy ambiance. While the slot floor is relatively small, there are good options available. The establishment also offers bars on both floors and updated operating hours during Covid19.
Very friendly to tourists, almost all the dealers speak English. The pit boss, Sam, and Chris were awesome and made us feel very welcomed. Had a great time gambling. This particular casino group requires that you wear a blazer or sport coat of some kind, if you'd both have one, they'll loan you one. The one I got was huge, but serviceable, it made me laugh.

This is one of the worst casinos that I’ve ever stepped foot in for several reasons. The most apparent shortfall is their casino chips. They might as well be using plastic bicycle chips purchased from the local convenience store. They are these tiny plastic chips that have no weight to them at all. My second complaint is that they advertised poker on their website, but there were no games running when I showed up. They also made us pay for drinks and it was a hassle to even get one served. I had to ask them to send the waiter to the blackjack table. I believe that drinks should be offered and not the other way around. Before anyone thinks I’m just a bitter gambler after losing. I did manage to win my last spin of roulette for a profitable session. It was not enjoyable though getting paid out in tiny rubber discs. I would avoid this casino. It is a Mickey Mouse joint with no class.

Gambling is fun! You meet people, have some smiles, make conversation, lose some dollars, and think - yea worth it. Well not here!!! This casino is a funeral Parlour in disguise. I was told on the roulette table while winning that i should "keep it down" people are concentrating on "winning." If a frog pharted it would have shattered the silence in that room. Go here if you want to feel what death is like

Me and my Boyfriend are on holiday here, so we thought it would be nice to take a look in this casino. From our hotel, this was a 40-minute drive... Unfortunately, we couldn't even see the inside of the casino because they didn't accept an ID card. They only take pasports, which is what they told us. We explained that ID and pasport are practically the same thing, but it didn't matter to them. We were told that that's just the rules the casino lives by, and they admitted to having more problems with this matter. Under the circumstances, we'd expect some kind of understanding and maybe some kind of an apology for not being clear enough about this on their website. We only got a simple 'no' about coming in from the receptionist. It's a shame. It would have been a lovely evening, I think.
Elena J — Google review
The management here is disconnected from players. They follow a "tradition" that you should win and lose silently. Don't yell if you win and don't grunt if you lose. This is not las vegas! its such a pathetic imitation and depressing at that. Come if you want to see a bunch of skeletons, in silence, being skeletons.
Angelo C — Google review
Great place for fun if you don't take gambling seriously. The ladies at the reception were extremely friendly and helpful. Had a wonderful glass of prosecco there. Definitely going back when I visit Garmisch again.
Rashedboss2000 — Google review
This is the first review I write on a casino. If the people in Garmisch didn't deserve a positive review, who else would? Everyone is just so kind, patient and generous with information. Even though casino is not the place to make money, the one in Garmisch is definitely a friendly place for fun, a casino with a big heart so to speak.
