Puzzling World is a popular attraction in Wanaka, offering a variety of mind-bending experiences for visitors. The complex features bizarre buildings, gravity-defying rooms, and illusions at every turn. Inside, guests can explore optical illusion rooms and tackle table puzzles at the cafe. The highlight is The Great Maze, an outdoor multi-level maze that provides a challenging experience for all ages.
It is a must do activity if you are in Wanaka or Queenstown. I love everything in Puzzling World. The maze is amazing, it took time for me to solve the maze. Other activities and presentations are must to purchase in the combo.
Robi I — Google review
A great spot everyone especially kids absolutely love it! They have good parking lot 🅿️ and free parking. The interior is very nice with a gift shop and a spacious seating area where every table is set up with different puzzles to try. Good coffee inside eat play and engage your brain- and get the kids off their devices for a few hours. There are two options one is maze only or illusion only room or combo .we enjoyed illusion room best is the slanted room I have near seen this before amazing work There’s also a café on-site offering food and drinks, so you can enjoy a bite while puzzling away. The exhibits lean more towards a younger audience, but still offer a fun and quirky experience. Highlights for us included the illusion room with 3D faces of Einstein, Mother Teresa, and Nelson Mandela, as well as the slanted room- which was a huge hit with the kids!
Adesh P — Google review
This a great stop for kids of ALL ages. It's fun and a great way to spend some time. It's definitely more fun in groups if you can. They have a great I door cafe and seating area and the gift shop has some great puzzle themed things
Hitesh P — Google review
Our kids loved this place. The maze, illusion rooms, and the cafe lobby with tons of puzzles to play with are all great!
Feiyu L — Google review
This was a fun thing to do after our previous activity was canceled. The tilted room makes you feel a bit weird but fun experience. The hardest part of the whole thing is exiting the maze
Brett R — Google review
We had lots of fun! Be aware of the Maze, it's not as easy!! We completed the task relatively quick but it took us a long time to find the exit 😂😂😂 Great family fun!
Yvonne C — Google review
Amazing place for relaxing your mind and quiet rest from driving. Many things for exploring here and good sport for photo
Reet K — Google review
This place is must visit whether you are with a partner, alone or with family. It’s fun. I was here with my mum and even she enjoyed here. We ordered coffees and croissants with chicken/almonds and they were simply delicious. Overall a magical experience. 🖤💙

Located just a short drive from the motel, Wanaka Lavender Farm is a picturesque rural complex that offers 20 acres of stunning lavender fields, charming farm animals, and beautifully landscaped gardens. Visitors can explore the grounds, interact with alpacas and miniature horses, and enjoy a cup of herbal tea at the on-site cafe while browsing through an array of lavender products. The farm is open year-round, with each season showcasing its own unique charm.
In a quiet farm area, your can see 20 acres of beautiful lavender fields, farm animals and gardens. As you wander through the gardens, you would see friendly farm animals such as goats, ponies etc. They make lavender products which are sold at their gift shop and they have an lovely restaurant that serves special ice cream, snacks and food. You can try the local honeys and lavender teas. Fee charged for entry. Popular place, need to go early to avoid the heat. Fair bit of walking around, some under shade. Terrain is pretty level. Toilets available. Wear comfy shoes, take water, wear hat, sunscreen. Beautiful place. Lots to see. Lovely place for picnic. Parking is easy and free. Great place for photography. Friendly staff and great service.
S V — Google review
Rating the farm and cafe as a whole, since we didn’t get to visit when the lavender was in season. 🫖 we sat down for a cup of purple tea, which happened to be the blend that sold out in the souvenir shop itself - but actually wasn’t the best i have had, though it still has a good tone of lavender to it 🍨 the ice cream was served in a cup which kinda surprised us as we expected a cone and was mainly lavender not chocolate - but well, how we feel are mainly based off expectations right? That said, the ice cream tasted mainly of chocolate so it wasn’t great either. Scone was affordable for the size, a little oily and slightly herbalicious, for those who enjoy that. 🌷 the lavender as mentioned wasn’t in season hence we couldn’t review that, but we do see patches and patches of those and imagined it would look amazing when it’s in full bloom and when there’s blue skies! The few cherry blossom trees around the farm was a welcoming sight though 🌸 🦙🐴 the alpacas and ponies are way too adorable, and was probably the highlight of our trip here, definitely one that is available all season long! Based on our trip here, we would probably not return if it’s not in season since the cafe didn’t have anything that we enjoy, but would see the lavender patches very worthwhile to come by and soak in (edited an image to show its potential)!
YY — Google review
We visited the Lavender Farm on 15 October and there were some flowers blooming but no lavender. The shop had alot of variety but the packaging was quite minimalistic. The lavender ice cream was premade in a tub and not a soft cone. We ordered the manuka and lavender ice cream but there was no lavender taste so I don't recommend it. It tasted like a honey ice cream.
Denise L — Google review
Visited the farm in the off season and it was still a pleasure and a delight. Make sure you get some ice cream before strolling the grounds. I bought tons of lovely farm-made lavender products before my departure.
Lillis T — Google review
Very cool and well maintained facility. Be sure to visit during summer to make the most of it Not much to see during winter but they have farm animals that you can hand-feed (alpacas & sheep), still a nice place to visit and spend an hour or two. Be sure to also check and test their selection of lavender teas
Rizky L — Google review
Very lovely open acreage of lavender fields. They weren’t in season during our visit however it was still lovely to stroll around and see the animals. Very cute shop inside too with some lovely products.
Georgie W — Google review
This was the highlight of my NZ holiday. The most beautiful warm welcoming from staff, exceptional value. The BEST hot chocolate I have ever had (must try the lavender hot chocolate) and the ice creams were nothing short of phenomenal. The animals were soo beautiful and funny especially the alpacas, the tall white one has a LOT to say and I will think of him every day until I return to chat again. The lavender farms are incredible even in winter when not in bloom so I can’t wait to return in summer and see them in their full glory. The shop is filled with beautiful handmade organic lavender products, the muscle and ache cream, silk hand lotion and lavender sleep balm are incredible and I will be purchasing these online when I finish them. Thankyou so much for an incredible memory Wanaka lavedner farm.
Johnny B — Google review
Must visit! I was with my husband and 2 young kids during autumn. It was low season and entry tickets were cheap, $7 adult $3.50 children. I imagine it would be extremely beautiful during summer/spring when the lavenders are in full bloom. We spent about 2hours there. Many beautiful spots for pictures. Farm animals there too and my kids had so much fun feeding the alpacas. I also bought a bottle of gardener hand cream from them. The scent is heavenly if you like lavender. Doesn't absorb quickly but once it does, the moisturising power stays! Highly recommended spot.

Scenic spot

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Nestled on the serene Lake Wanaka, #ThatWanakaTree is a solitary crack willow tree that has gained fame as New Zealand's most Instagram-famous tree. Partially submerged in the lake, it stands against the backdrop of the majestic Southern Alps. A short stroll along the stunning lakefront leads to this iconic spot, where visitors can savor takeaway beverages while soaking in the crisp Wanaka air.
Taking a walk along Lake Wanaka was such a relaxing and chill experience. The path is easy and scenic, with stunning views the whole way. The mountains across the lake were dusted with snow when I visited, which made the whole scene feel almost unreal. Standing alone in the water, it had this quiet, almost poetic feel to it—kind of lonely, but beautiful in a peaceful way. It’s one of those spots that makes you stop and take it all in. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Wanaka. Bring a warm drink, take your time, and just enjoy the stillness.
張晏榕 — Google review
Also known as the That Wānaka Willow, it is the nickname of a willow tree located at the southern end of Lake Wānaka in the Otago region of New Zealand. The tree grows alone in the water and is a popular destination for tourists to take photos. It was planted as a fence post and unexpectedly grew. It has since become a popular destination at Lake Wanaka. It is easy to get to from the public car park nearby. Easy terrain but a fair bit walking. Check the tides before planning a visit as water can cover the tree trunk - though not totally. Popular with photographers, so you may have to wait your turn. Toilets available nearby. Cafes and restaurants available in around the lake car park. Free entry. The lake itself is a beautiful place. Lots to see. Lovely place for picnic. Great place for photography.
S V — Google review
Wānaka is absolutely beautiful — a perfect mix of mountain scenery, a peaceful lake, and a friendly small-town vibe. The famous lone Wānaka tree is even more stunning in person, especially at sunrise or sunset when the light hits the water. Great cafés, scenic walks, and endless photo opportunities. A must-visit spot on the South Island!
Anna D — Google review
100% WORTH VISITING. There are magnificent views and the park benind it and the place itself if super picturesque and photogenic.... Even when it is crowded, there is ample of space and very beautiful and worth visiting.
Siddhant V — Google review
The Wanaka Tree is one of those iconic spots that looks beautiful in photos, especially with the lake and mountains as its backdrop. When I visited, the weather was gloomy with rain, which made the view a little less impressive compared to the postcards and online shots. It’s still a unique sight, but in my opinion, it’s not really worth making a special trip just for the tree. The experience is much better if you’re already staying in Wanaka town, where you can enjoy the lakefront, local cafes, and the relaxed atmosphere while also taking the time to see the tree. It’s a nice stop, but the real charm is in exploring the town and surrounding scenery rather than focusing on a single photo spot.
Daryl — Google review
It’s just a tree - were the comments i heard various times from our friends who visited, though i must say the highlight wasn’t exactly the tree, but the snow capped mountains as its backdrop. While we visited the beach prior to the tree, we were drawn into the mountains in the distance rather than looking for where the tree was, and remained the same focus while taking photos with the tree. It being a tree in the river definitely is worth a visit, though it’s also a good walk along the beach with the majestic view in the background 🏔️
YY — Google review
Visited early Oct. Very serene place at night. Many photographers as expected. Sunset time is nice. Abit chilly at night so do dress layered.
Eileen S — Google review
A site to see simply because other people have seen it. I spotted the tree on GMaps having no clue as to why it was pinned and It was an easy stop for us as we passed through Wanaka on our way over the pass to Haas. We hit this spot at the tail end of the shoulder season, and it was already crowded with other tourists. I mean, the lake, mountains, and semi-submerged tree were quite pretty, but we had just traveled through Fiordland and up into the Southern Alps where gorgeous views pop into view around every bend. So, if you have loved award winning photos of the tree, maybe just hold onto the magic of those instead of tracking down from the car park and milling around with everyone else to take a mediocre snap of an over-touristed bit of shrubbery.

Specialty Museums
The National Transport & Toy Museum in Wanaka is a must-visit for car enthusiasts and those young at heart. With over 50,000 toys and vehicles on display, including trucks, cars, motorbikes, airplanes, military vehicles, and tractors, the museum offers a nostalgic journey through collectible relics. Visitors can explore an extensive selection of dolls, teddy bears, battery-powered toys as well as a kids play area and toy store.
This place is astonising and huge! I could not believe how much toys they've managed to collect and kept well in this place. It is more than just transports and toys museum. It collects other old valuables such as type writer, cutleries, drinking cans/glass bottles, old computer system, etc. Most of the vintage cars are kept in good condition. The only down side is the hangers smell heavily of petrol and metal(which I guess is unavoidable...). Well worth $23 for an adult. Plenty of free parking on site. I will definitely return to this gem as it's venue is still expanding with more to see.
Justin Y — Google review
This place really impressed me! I didn't have high expectations going in but was blown away by the volume of interesting artifacts. Everything from antique spoons to X-Men toys. It also feels like they continue to add, maintain and build upon the collection and venue. Great spot, would highly recommend.
Ben M — Google review
Great place to visit, brings back memories of toys from my childhood and more recent ones my kids have had. Lots of great old cars, trucks and planes. Model trains are great also. Lots of lego put together. Very good to just walk around and non stop looking at all the pieces.
Jason R — Google review
A huge and great museum for automobile enthusiasts! With a myriad of cars, fighter/passenger planes, tractors, trains, tanks, ambulance, fire ambulances and model cars on display, those who are really into them could really spend hours and hours here! ✈️ 🚗 🚒 🚋 🚜 The cars aren’t really arranged in a particular fashion, with bits of an assortment kept in each hangar, with some being really dusty as they are kept on sand, perhaps for a particular reason. The model cars selection wasn’t too huge, though there’s some unique Oxford ones i haven’t seen before - can’t find a souvenir to bring home unfortunately.. Definitely a must visit if you are into automobiles, particularly classic ones!
YY — Google review
The Vintage Transportation Museum is a great place to visit. It has a full range of classic cars on display, all very well kept and interesting to see. There’s also a wonderful collection of old-time toys, which adds extra charm and nostalgia. It’s an enjoyable spot for both car lovers and families. Highly recommended!
Xiao C — Google review
This is one of the most enjoyable 2 hours I have spent in a museum. So much to see and just when you think you have seen something, look up and there is more. Old cars, planes , toys, there is so much to see.
Melissa M — Google review
Great museum. Lots of cars snd toys from my childhood. Quite a few planes too. A fun couple of hours!

I had no idea where I was heading into - but this place offers sensory overload for transport and toy fans and horrified me in how much stuff as a generation has landed in landfill rubbish cause no one kept it. here they have kept everything!

Basecamp Wanaka Climbing Centre is the perfect spot for families with kids aged 3 and up to embark on a thrilling rock climbing adventure. The indoor rock climbing walls are vibrant and engaging, while outdoor climbing excursions offer an unforgettable experience. The Clip n Climb session features automatic belay systems, allowing even preschoolers to climb safely and independently on various themed walls.
Nice climbing gym! Indoor and outdoor roped climbing (lead and top rope), with a small bouldering area and also kids area. Staff were great and the vibe in the gym was really nice!
Heiko G — Google review
Great bouldering room and climbing walls. Some tough holds in the bouldering room for sure
Hayden T — Google review
Small but affordable. Roughly 15 4-6 clip rope climbs and a similar number of boulder problems. Tons of fun stuff for kids.
Garet W — Google review
Great fun for kids, with good attention paid to safety. All ages and levels of ability are catered for in a "no frills" environment, and supervision is good while at the same time unobtrusive.
Hugh W — Google review
Great for fit energetic people, good value. A bit in need of a make over, sitting area for people watching a bit messy. Could do with a tidy up and more seating
Angela L — Google review
Best climbing wall I'm town. Great for meeting people to climb with.
Neil M — Google review
Great gym near town. It's small, but has a variation of top rope and lead routes, a bouldering cave, and some fun auto-belay setups that are great for training.
Chris J — Google review
Went to the Clip ‘n’ Climb a couple of days after Christmas. It does not have a massive selection of Climbs but totally enough for a small group of children. We took 6 children of various ages and there were climbs suitable for 4-14 year olds. Had a good time watching the children climb. Staff were helpful, but not intrusive. We were mostly left to enjoy ourselves. They hung near enough by for safety and helping where needed There is a playground outside, good for any younger children.

Cafe
Cinema Paradiso is a unique boutique movie theater in town, offering a quirky vintage experience. The theater features old sofas and even has seating inside a vintage Morris Minor car. Guests can enjoy gourmet food from the on-site cafe before, during, and after their movie, with freshly-baked cookies and homemade ice cream available during the interval. It's the perfect spot for a cozy evening or to escape rainy weather.
What a fun movie watching experience. It was a rainy evening so it was a perfect time to be indoors. Very cosy cinema with even a halftime for people to get food and have their bathroom break. I had their pizza which was absolutely delicious. Didn't realise that you can seat in the car also, would definitely try that when I come back here.
Alex L — Google review
Great movies, really comfortable seats, staff were very friendly. And the cookie sandwich was sinfully good!

The Gluten Free cookies are incredible! Showing all popular movies and bookings available through the website. Cinemas are cozy and full of comfortable couches. Definitely recommend ordering some halftime homemade cookies!

Oh my god, I’m obsessed with this place !!! Found it by accident on maps as we got to Wanaka and it was the best experience. We loved the sofas and comfy vibes and adored the baked cookies in the interval! It was soooo worth it and think you should defo go!!
Asha S — Google review
I absolutely loved this cinema! Apart from the cool part of having a sofa instead a regular seat(don’t worry normal seat also available) I love the fact that you can order food or sweets ahead and it will be ready for your break! But the great thing of all is the fact that they have options for vegans from starters to the famous warm and delicious cookies!
Meir C — Google review
The way movies should be! With an intermission break (5-10mins) halfway thru the movie. So you are able to get a freshly baked cookie (still warm), another cheeky glass of wine/ beer, or a quick pit stop to the bathroom before going back to watch the remainder of your movie. Great atmosphere, with great seating options available in three cinemas on-site. Cinema 1 & 2 are the larger cinemas, while cinema 3 is more cosier. Lounge options, bean bags, sitting within a car in cinema 1 or 2. Food is lovely, cookies are super tasty and a huge variety of ice creams to choose from.
Peta L — Google review
What a great Cinema, warm and cosy with three Cinemas. Lovely staff, a great size screen. A huge variety of seats to choose from, including seats inside of cars which really adds to this Cinemas charm. They even have a half time at this Cinema which is amazing as you can order food to be ready then, Mum and I had hot freshly baked cookies that were amazing. They serve the usual Cinema treats like popcorn, lollies and drinks, along with a variety of alcohol, pizza and other things. All in all a great Cinema well worth a visit

Skydive Wānaka is a top skydiving operator in New Zealand, offering tandem 200kph freefalls over the stunning Lake Wānaka. Whether you're a parachuting pro or a first-timer, this experienced company provides an unforgettable freefall experience with expert tandem instructors.
Friendly and helpful staff. An error had apparently occurred when I made my booking so there wasn’t a spot for me, but they told me to come anyways and they would take a look at if they could squeeze me in. Did get a spot in the end which I was thankful for as I lived 3+ hours drive away. The initial drop is fun and then the pressure kind of made it hard to enjoy the view lol. It was fun to try but I don’t think I’ll do it again.
Helena W — Google review
I did a skydive in late June 2024, and it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment I received the message and email confirming it was 'all go' for me, I was over the moon with excitement. Upon arrival, I joined the other jumpers and suited up in the skydiving gear. The anticipation built as we boarded the plane, and before I knew it, I was free falling through the sky. The sensation was indescribable, like an exhilarating rush of pure freedom. The view was absolutely breathtaking, with expansive vistas stretching out beneath me, making me feel like I was on top of the world. The weather was perfect, with sunny skies and smooth conditions for the jump. The entire experience was enhanced by the camaraderie with the other jumpers and the professionalism of the staff. It was truly an amazing adventure that I would eagerly do again in a heartbeat!

I did the 15,000 ft one and it’s AMAZING!!! This is one of the best experiences to date for me. I can’t say how professional, friendly and care the Skydive Wanaka team is. From the moment I tried to book a spot 3 hours before the jump to being dropped off at the town center. The tandem master Aaron was absolutely amazing, he knew exactly what he was doing with care, so it really felt like I was in good hands which I absolutely was. Mike, the supporter was also friendly and supportive along the way. I mean, to have a group of professionals taking care of you from the start to the end, what else’s better. A 10 outa 10. Highly recommend the 15,000 ft package as it’s simply outa this world, literally.
Dean D — Google review
Our booking was cancelled due to the weather, which is understandable. However, they charged a 1.2% card payment fee that they refused to refund, which is ridiculous. We had bookings with other outdoor activity providers that were also cancelled due to the weather, but we had no issue getting a full amount back, including the card payment fee. Moreover, they returned the money through “refund” instead of cancelling the original payment, which could result in exchange loss if you’re using a foreign credit card. BOOK THE ACTIVITY WITH THEM AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
Jeffery H — Google review
It was my first time skydiving in Wanaka! At first, I was really scared, but the thrill when I jumped was amazing! One downside is that the weather changes very quickly. If you’re planning to try it, make sure to check the weather beforehand. Cancellations often happen due to wind or cloudy conditions, so check the weather every day! When you meet the team, they are super friendly and helpful. I was lucky to be able to jump, and it was thrilling and so much fun. Because of the air pressure, my ears hurt a lot and I couldn’t focus properly, so be careful — it really hurts! Anyway, I had a great time!
정연수 — Google review
Our booking was cancelled twice. Rescheduled twice to a later timing. Went to the location when no cancellation was issued. Saw a flight going out and wondered why wasn’t it offered to us, we’ve been waiting since 8am. Checked in at 230pm. Paid for the additional video taking, which was not cheap ~NZD$700. Then they cancelled. There wasn’t even an announcement. Had to deduce ourselves from other disappointed customers leaving. Then went ahead to refund the costs. But not the 1.2% card payment fee. Was not made clear to us about the terms and conditions. If you are going offer a payment method and push the cost of having that available to the customers why offer at all. Whole situation was frustrating and badly communicated. Had to pay for the entire day to be wasted. Why not only take payment after or only before flight? Doubt they would improve.

The experience includes untouched snow runs and a delicious lunch in a secluded hut surrounded by picturesque mountains. Guests also appreciate the care taken to ensure a safe and enjoyable time, from booking with Zoe to riding with experienced guides.
Such a fantastic day out with Southern Lakes Heliski. James (guide) and Blair (pilot) were amazing and super safety conscious. For someone who was very nervous about flying they helped ease some of the nerves. Although it was very early in the season we had 6 runs of untouched snow and it was magical. We stopped for a delicious lunch of soup, sausage rolls, gourmet sandwiches and yummy sweets in a little secluded hut surrounded by snow topped mountains. 10/10 day! CAUTION: you may never be able to ski/board resort fields again after this experience!

Great day heli skiing even though the snow hasn't been great this season. 5 stars to the Southern Lakes Heli team who managed to pull together a brilliant day. Can't wait until the next one. Not sure I will ever be able to stand in queues again! Thanks very much.

What a magical day! We were so lucky with the most perfect weather, but what really made it was the awesome care Southern Lakes Heli Ski took to ensure we had an amazing day. As a first time heli skier, Phil (guide) made me feel so relaxed and confident, he really took interest in ensuring we all had a safe and enjoyable time...and I had complete confidence in Liam (pilot) who made exiting and entering the chopper as easy as possible. The lunch was divine and the apres lakeside drinks and nibbles topped off the most epic day. This was a bucket list experience for me, and one I'll never forget for all the right reasons thanks to the professional and fun operation of SLHS - thank you!

Absolutely awesome experience. Our guide (Jam3$) was great and took care of our party and made sure all participants felt comfortable. The views, guides, pilots were all brilliant and the untracked runs inspired us to book again for the very next day. Thanks for a great day!

Had a great day out on Sunday 6/9/15. Blue bird conditions, clean powder and lots of terrain. The operation ran very smoothly. The guides were great- friendly but very efficient and making sure everyone was getting where they needed to go and getting the most out of the mountain. thanks for a great day out Ollie

POW! Thank you Southern Lakes Heliski for a day of rad! Our trip on 1/8/15 was everything and more than we anticipated. 8 heli-drops of deep untouched pow in bluebird conditions was a dream come true. Quality guiding and thanks to Phil for getting us the goods each run, he's extremely knowledgeable and had the perfect balance of safety with a relaxed fun vibe for our group. Same for pilot Tim and the rest of the crew. From starting the booking process with Monica to the end of day celebratory beers, the crew were a pleasure to deal with and highly informative. Can't recommend it enough! I've been on a powder high since. If you want deep untracked powder, wide open fields into stacked gullies, loaded wind lips to smash and slash, and incredible scenery to take in all around you - go with Southern Lakes Heliski! Cheers guys.

From the booking and organising with Zoe through to the days riding with our guide Tarn (probably spelt that wrong sorry) it was an epic experience! Smoothly run and very professional with a great feed in the middle of the day. Will definately be back for more! Thanks Team!!

We are only new to Heliski and wrre super excited but nervous! Months before our trip the crew ftom Southern Lakes fielded my barrage of questions and calmed my nerves without even batting an eyelid. Our day started with a scenic shuttle ride through Wanaka to a boat and we were ferried across what could be arguably one of the most breathtaking views I have ever seen! Prior to jumping in the heli, we were safety briefed and handed our beacons probes and packs ! It was mid September so we were afforded a beautiful bluebird spring day. Skiing the Minarets was an amazing experience and we highly recommend thos world class operation... i cant wait to stay in their lodge

Hook Wānaka - Lake to Plate offers a unique culinary experience where visitors can catch their own Chinook salmon from the spring-fed fishing lakes. The talented team then prepares the fish to perfection, offering options such as filleting, smoking, and serving it as sashimi on a giant platter. Alternatively, guests can place an order with the kitchen and enjoy the tranquil ambience while savoring tasty food paired with fine wines from the region.
Love going to Hook. Nothing beats catching your own salmon and then having it cooked for you. The grounds are nicely manicured and the pond is big enough that you aren't crowded in. We enjoyed a beer and pineapple chili margaritas on tap while we waited for our sashimi and hot smoked salmon. Service was exceptional. Even if you don't catch a fish, they have other options for food which was also very good. We got a pizza and fries as well. Very enjoyable and would definitely go back again. Highly recommend.
Tracy C — Google review
It was such a beautiful spot for fishing and good for whole family as well. My 9 yo learned how to fishing from one of the young staff members. He then caught 3 fish and we had once grilled shared with whole family in the cafe. The chef was great, the dishes we're delicious. The only thing that could be improved is the wait time for the food and more staff to help out the cafe ad fishing areas. We will definitely come back.
Patrick G — Google review
We enjoyed lunch at Hook Wanaka followed by fishing for salmon in their pond. The staff were very helpful and gave us tips on how to fish for the first time. We were able to catch 4 fish successfully in 50 minutes. They had 2 ponds that you could choose from. The closer pond had fish that was 700g to 900g. The 2nd pond was over 1kg. It was a very fun experience and highly recommend it for families including kids.
Denise L — Google review
Had great time with friends fishing the salmon here. The food was delicious. However, the ordering system was a bit off, the staff said it was the new system. Overall, it is a great place! Must visit with kids!
Varanya V — Google review
They changed the menu when I visited in August 2025. We were a little disappointed that fresh oysters weren't available and seems like the fishing is paused too. Nonetheless, we thoroughly enjoyed the food and good service. The salmon platter is very delightful, my friends and I really liked the salmon sashimi with charred mandarin orange and yuzu miso dressing. The grilled salmon was pretty good too with a delicate cripsy skin.
Lee L — Google review
I was very excited to visit and fish for my dinner.. was a popular place and was busy when we arrived, still the staff were very professional and got me fishing ASAP. Within minutes the first bite and fight was on. A lovely 1.9kg salmon which was plenty to feed our party of four. But as a keen fisherman I wasn’t done🤘🏼 So another crack I had, a second 1.9kg fish was brought in and off to the kitchen we go. The girls were lovely processing the order of my slimy friends and so we had one 1/2 grilled w/ Asian glaze 1/2 sashimi and one cold smoked citrus glazed for takeaway.. A must visit in Wānaka ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thanks to all including the lil’ guy checking if we needed a hand landing one. NOT SURE? JUST DO IT
Dean T — Google review
This has been the highlight of our trip! We had a great time fishing for salmon. The staff were so helpful in explaining the best ways to catch the salmon and suggested the best spots to fish. We caught a salmon and opted for the glaze and graze option. It was affordable for a 1.7kg Salmon and the miso glaze was delicious. We sat outside while we ate and watched everyone else catching fish.
Ellie B — Google review
What an experience. We had our lunch here on our way from lake tekapo to Queenstown. Everything here was perfect! You pay 10nzd for some tools to fish a salmon at the lake and within mins, we caught one. And we got the fish weigh about 2.5kg and we decide how we want it done. So…We had it sashimi and we ordered some rice and oysters to pair with it. It was delicious. Highly recommended!!

Experience the ultimate lake and mountain adventure with Wanaka Water Taxi & 4x4 Explorer. Start your half-day trip with a scenic boat cruise across Lake Wanaka, offering breathtaking views of glacier-carved mountains and alpine peaks. Explore Mou Waho Island with an informative and enjoyable water taxi ride, followed by a 4x4 excursion the next day for an unforgettable experience.
We initially booked the Mou Waho Island Express trip in the morning, but it was canceled as we were the only ones on the boat. The team was incredibly kind and accommodating, offering us alternative options. We chose the Explorer tour to Mt Burke, which was an unforgettable experience. A scenic boat ride followed by a 4WD trip up the mountain, where we enjoyed breathtaking views in total solitude. Our guide was fantastic—knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate. The provided picnic with muffins, cake, and fruit was a great touch. An amazing experience with a lovely company—highly recommend!

This was a great adventure! Thank you to Sean, Tony and Krystal for the wonderful boat ride and 4x4 ride up the mountain to not only see a beautiful landscape but to experience the strong and changing winds. They also served us a wonderful light lunch that was delicious. Everything was amazing! Would highly recommend. Great company to use.

I throughly enjoyed my experience this morning! I felt really well looked after and comfortable from the offset. It was just me and another couple so a nice intimate group size to get to know each other and share an experience! The water taxi was great and the 4 x 4 up the track was even better! Loved the views despite mixed weather and the banter from our driver (I'm sorry I can't remember your name I think it began with a T 🤣) I really enjoyed every part of it. Great facts about NZ flora and fauna en route and some delicious muffins and brownies after we came back down (too windy and chilly up the top). Would highly recommend!!

Such a fantastic tour!!! We flew down for a few days in Wanaka from North Auckland, and wanted something interesting and adventurous but suitable with our two year old Fred. The Mou Wahou Island Tour (3hrs) was just perfect!! Hannah was an exceptional guide, informative (so many awesome facts about the place and island and birds)! Birding heaven on the island too. We saw the Bluff Weka and plenty Bellbird. Thanks for accomodating us Wanaka Water Taxis!

We had a fantastic experience with Wanaka Water Taxi and the Mou Waho Island tour. Although the day started with some rain and heavy cloud cover, we were lucky that the weather cleared just as we reached the lookout. The 40-minute hike to the top was absolutely worth it—the views were breathtaking! Our boat captain, Brent, was incredibly knowledgeable and shared many fascinating facts along the way. This tour is a must-do, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

During summer months (usually December to April), the snowy trails transform into a thrilling bike park.
I could not imagine a better place to spend my time. As a beginner to mountain biking it was a supportive environment to learn and progress throughout the season. Trails were always super fun and help at base was abundant. Post ride delights at Velo always a shout as well.

WOW! Just WOW! From the moment we walked in to buy our tickets for the day until the moment we drove out the gates. This was just a fantastic day The girl checking us in was more than helpful in giving us trail info and tips. The trails were so well maintained and the views at key lookout areas were amazing. The Mototapu loop is a bucket list type ride. And Hare Time is a brilliant long jump trail that other bike parks should aspire to. The bean bags down at the cafe were a nice touch - a great place to flop and recover while contemplating another lap.

Excellent. Great trails both down and up. They are well planned and safe, yet lots of fun. Good easy climbing and great jump trails down with good flow. Well priced and lots of scope for a good day with the cafe on site.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of the natural world, from powerful waterfalls to tranquil forested pools and sculptural rock formations. Experienced guides ensure safety while encouraging participants to step out of their comfort zones.
The experience was great! As beginners, it was a great gateway to canyoning! Yorik the instructor was clear and patient, letting us experience and even be scared, and gave us confidence. The scenery is amazing, the trip was well suited for beginners. The walk at the beginning was hard, but it was definitely worth it

We had an amazing time in Robinson Creek for some intermediate canyoneering. Yorik was an amazing guide. The scenery was absolutely stunning. There was many fun jumps and abseiling opportunities. You will not be disappointed. It was the highlight of our stay in Queenstown
Brett W — Google review
We did the intermediate experience, I was so nervous beforehand but it was so worth it! It was so much fun and it pushes you out of your comfort zone in a safe and controlled way. Jon was a fantastic guide! Highly recommend to anyone thinking about trying it!
Gabriella P — Google review
My son and I enjoyed a good day out but unfortunately we were left very disappointed. We booked the intermediate Big Nige trip. We then had a good trip out to the canyon but only experienced one decent slide and 1 big jump. We left feeling satisfied but not fulfilled. Unfortunately, that night were we informed that they had downgraded our trip to the beginner canyon for safety reasons as I was a little slow. After climbing to Mueller Hut and back and then out to Rob Roy glacier the day before I was tired but was so keen to experience all that canyoning had to offer. There was no discussion with the change with the guide or from deep canyon until that night. Hence we requested a credit for the difference between the price of the two trips but they were unwilling to move. They even told us to chat to our booking agent about refunds. So we drove all the way back to Wanaka to do so. Once there they called Deep Canyon who refused to budge. Another hour and fuel wasted. This was a very expensive trip for us and surely this was the minimum they should have offered. Fortunately the rest of our NZ holiday has been great
John H — Google review
This was absolutely awesome!! Second time canyoning now, but it was still just as incredible as the first! Shout out to Jon and Yorik, our guides for the day, they did a fantastic job; great instructions on what to do in each situation, and just keeping it fun the whole time! and the lunch was perfect. Cheers guys!

Canyoning was awesome! Robin is a real pro, he understands individuals personal limitations but is still very encouraging for people to leave their comfort zones, with safety always at the forefront. On booking, we asked for Imp Grotto with a group of three, and were told that it would be numbers permitting. But on the day of the activity, Robin arrived in his car, loaded us in and off we went. The drive out was very scenic and Robin was a great host. A quick safety brief, and then an excellent way of turning our wetsuits into a backpack, off we went. The actual canyon was incredible. Very remote, we swiftly climbed up a proper goat track to get to the beginning of the canyon. Another safety brief and a practical explanation of the activities, off we went. Robin set up the first rappel and away we were! Down some big waterfalls, then some rock slides, a couple of jumps and more repelling, plus a nice display of how the pros do it as Robin removed all the gear on his way down. On finish, we jumped off the bridge a couple of times for some more excitement to finish. Then halfway on the drive back, we stopped for a fresh lunch in which Robin accommodated for all dietary requirements. All in all, an excellent experience that I'd recommend to all.
Anthony D — Google review
Went on the Big Nige tour for the first day of the season. Having never done canyoning before it was an amazing experience of abseiling, sliding and jumping into pools. A good balance between thrills and challenge i look forward to canyoning again! The guides were helpful and friendly too.

The company is also involved in conservation efforts, including predator eradication to protect endangered species like the Alpine Parrot and Rock Wren.
Sometimes you just have to write a review because the experience was that good and you want others to enjoy it. We had a fantastic time on the island and our guide was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I only wish my memory was that good and then I might be able to remember names! We do remember Sally, the adorable Weka bird who came to meet us and we enjoyed helping to plant a tree and help to restore this island to its former glory. The views are simply stunning.

Completed a half day island trip with a little hike with Chris today and it was excellent. Chris’ knowledge and passion for his work and the environment absolutely shines through and makes the tour great. After a short boat trip across the lake we docked at an island and walked the mile or so to the hilltop lake and then a couple of view points. Some stunning views, opportunities to see weta and weka and Chris talked us through a host of the flora and forms. Definitely do this if you are staying in Wanaka. Excellent.

In 3 days she taught my partner and I everything we needed to know and more to feel totally safe and confident taking on multi-pitch climbing on our own. Not to mention the extremely fun days of getting out to some really beautiful places with packed lunches that put my meal prep to shame! Llewellyn was super attentive, always very thoughtful and really made sure we were getting what we wanted out of our time with them. Thanks to you both for an absolutely incredible experience that we definitely consider a highlight of our time in New Zealand!

My Husband and I really enjoyed our climbing experience with Wanaka Rock Climbing. We did the 2-day multi-pitch climb at Mt. Cook with Tim as our guide. Tim was experienced, knowledgeable, and friendly. Our climbing level is 5.11 indoor top rope and 5.9 outdoor lead, and this was our first multi-pitch. Tim chose fun climbs that also challenged us. We would and have already recommended Wanaka Rock Climbing to our friends.

Awesome experience, the guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and found climbs well suited to our abilities and let us make the most out of day! Perfect for any level of climbing experience.

I can highly recommend these guys! My husband and I spent an awesome day out with Llewellyn climbing the Grand Travers of The Remarkables. He is really professional and reliable guide with deep knowledge and huge experience. He did his best that we could enjoy the climb and he told us lots of information about NZ mountains as well. We would definitely go for another climbing trip with him.

Our family of four spend an incredible day climbing the single cone mountain of the Remarkables in March 2018. It was one of the highlights of our six week trip to New Zealand. Llew and Dave were patient, experienced guides and although all of us found the experience challenging (and a bit scary!), we felt safe the entire time. Two of us went with Llewellyn taking the easier ascent and two went with Dave and we all met at the top of the summit for lunch and abs sailed down together. On top of it all they’re both really nice guys to spend the day with. Thanks again Llewellyn and Dave! It was an experience none of us will forget and an amazing, inspirational, introduction for our kids.

We had a great time rock climbing! Our guide was really caring with safety instructions, funny, informative and helpful with notions about climbing. Amazing experience, probably one of the best during our stay in NZ. Absolutely recommended!

I had a great time on my one-on-one day with Wanaka Rock. Very flexible itinerary to suit my wants and experience level (experienced, but out of practice). Picked up a few new tricks, and came away with some great coaching advice on how to improve my form. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend Wanaka Rock to anyone looking for a great adventure in the area.

2nd visit to the place for rifle shooting. A very relaxed environment and lovely accommodating owner. We have been to another outdoor shooting range but the kids prefer this one. Will drop in again next time in Wanaka!

Our visit to Crossfire Wanaka was a delightful experience from start to finish. We were warmly welcomed by a gentleman who was very nice and informative, setting the tone for our day. He sold us a fantastic package that included golf, archery, and shooting air rifles. My husband and I started off with a friendly competition, which quickly became quite competitive – we had a blast! The atmosphere was perfect as we visited on a quiet day, and the manager was kind enough to let us take our time and truly enjoy ourselves. Crossfire Wanaka provided a wonderful and memorable day of fun and games! Highly recommended!

Hiking area
The Mount Iron Track is a popular short walk in Wanaka, offering stunning panoramic views of Lake Wanaka and the town. The 4.5 km loop trail starts just outside of Wanaka and ascends nearly 250m to the summit. The track zig-zags through scrubby bushes and low trees, providing glimpses of Wanaka township and the lake before reaching the ridgeline that leads to the summit.
Absolutely awesome track. You can see more than just Wanaka the town and the lake but also the whole valley from the top. The hike wasn't too bad. It does require some fitness level. My Strava says it it 2.7 miles with 790 ft of elevation gain. We took it easy and we took a lot of pictures. Lots of families with little kids going up while we did this track. If you are looking for a short (under 2 hours) of hiking in this area, I would recommend this track.
Ino S — Google review
An easy track! You can take your kids and walk around here. I would definitely recommend it if you just wanna have a simple hike with good view on top.
Catherine L — Google review
One of our first full “hike” here in New Zealand and we thought it was a pretty simple one to go for - with good views and a decent trail up and down the mountain ⛰️ Tip: Start from the right, and come down from the left once you reach the summit. We would advise to start from the right side of the track, as it was a little more dangerous coming down from that end, having gone up from the left and down from the right. To solidify our point, joggers were going up and down the same way (from the left) on our way up. The right side of the track was much more stoney, and we had a couple of slips/ankle twists. Apart from that, the views were fairly good for the effort, and there’s benches from time to time to let you rest on the way - took us 1.5 hours for the entire trip, with 2 short breaks to enjoy the view and a leisure pace throughout.
YY — Google review
A reasonably steep walk up to the summit for some lovely views! We did the loop anti clockwise - most people were doing clockwise but the climb is steeper that way! Toilets are near the parking are which is handy!
Jennifer P — Google review
Not an easy track if you have never done one before. Locals seem to be going twice as fast as us and made it look easy, while we had to stop thrice on our way up to catch our breath. About 45 min going up and 30 coming down. The view was good from the top. Take 2 hours and enjoy it, don't rush it.
Karan K — Google review
Nice hike - Children and family friendly - onto Wanaka’s in-town hill. We did it with a 5 and 7 year old who didn’t do much hiking before (though you can’t really call it a ‘hike’ yet) It’s either possible as loop or up and down same track. Amazing views!! Once in Wanaka, it’s worth it!
Alex W — Google review
Quite steep in places and quite rocky so make sure you’ve got good shoes! Also I’m sure the views are great on a clear day but we went on a cloudy day.

Visitors can also make use of public showers for a fee, which is convenient for travelers in campervans.
My dad could not write a review as he does not have a google account: “Had a fantastic second visit to play Pickleball. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Facilities immaculate. Puts the UK to shame. The changing rooms blew me away. Carpeted floors!! My daughter who lives in NZ loves the centre. I would highly recommend. Your prices are amazing. I hated reading the rip off reviews and had to respond. Your prices are a fifth of those in the UK. Kind Regards Dean”

Superb pool with hot bath (without whirlpool) and length pool, as well as a shallow pool for children (but accessible to adults outside hours reserved for swimming school) and a paddling pool with water jet for the little ones. The men’s and women’s locker rooms are very spacious with showers and toilets- and there are even 3 changing rooms for families. The pool also has a gym where there are ball games and a large outdoor football field. The price per adult is $8, a little more expensive than in Christchurch where you can have for $6 sauna and hammam, but this pool is really very good anyway ☺️
Jennifer — Google review
We went at peak time on a Saturday and it was busy. Small changing area and people seemed to leave their gear in the change room so meant that we had to wait a couple of mins until we could change. The pools are small and I found the toddler pool cold- my daughter had fun regardless... 3 stars mainly for the generous amount of toys available for kids to enjoy!
Sophie W — Google review
Showers were not hot by any means. Paid $5 for an almost warm shower. Do not go here if you want hot water, its not worth it. You end up colder than before you got in.
Natoia R — Google review
As others have shared, showers for public use for a fee - great for those traveling in campervans. Staff was very kind. Manage your expectations- it is very much so a communal shower space (makes sense as its intended purpose is for after pool or gym). 1 hook, but no where to put anything in the shower. Water is operated by a button that you press and have to keep pressing every 15-18 seconds, or it shuts off automatically. Water is hot! And there are hair dryers. Changing room is an open concept. Reasonable for the price

Red Bridge Berries (PYO Strawberries) offers a delightful experience for families and couples alike. Visitors can enjoy the thrill of hand-picking fresh strawberries in the expansive fields, with rows upon rows to explore. While there is a per person cover charge and a minimum weight requirement, it's an enjoyable activity that provides an abundance of strawberries for meals and snacks. The farm also serves delicious fruit ice creams made from their own produce, perfect for cooling off on a hot day.
Had a wonderful experience picking strawberries here. This makes for a great afternoon activity close to Wanaka. Staff members went over some basic etiquette on how to pick the berries, and we were then on our way. The strawberries are charged per kg (depends on season, but very reasonable), with a minimum pick of 0.5kg per adult. There is also the choice of purchasing pre-picked strawberries and other items at the shop, in case you want more.
Justin L — Google review
Sweet strawberries, you can pick them if just buy a box in the shop. It’s $3 per entry for picking, $12 per kg you have picked. We skipped the picking part coz the weather was just simply too good to be standing there picking, we might not be able to stand the heat. So we bought the strawberries at the shop with some delicious ice creams, then sat outside in the shade to enjoy them. Nice place to stop by and enjoy some fresh strawberries, btw, those strawberries are none chemicals, can eat straight away.
Allen S — Google review
PYO strawberries - we pluck mostly the small little cute size, and it tastes really sweet. The PYO strawberry is based on weight, which is NZD 16 per kilo, and top of it, there's charges on the entry fee of NZD 3. We bought the homemade strawberry balsamic, watermelon, strawberry ice cream, and smoothies. My girl loves the sandpit area but definitely brings your hat with you as the UV is strong.

In general I do not like ice cream, but as I saw the sign - I thought, that I wanted to try out the ice cream! And what should I say - best ice cream ever… and there is even a frozen yoghurt too! Went to Red Bridge Berries on the next day too, as this needed to be a stop along my travelplans! Appreciate the kind service, the good ice cream, the nice cup - and this lovely spot!

Had a great time picking strawberries here. Staff are friendly and will give instructions how to pick strawberries and where to pick them. Strawberries are sweet. The place was big and there are rows of strawberry plant. At the end, there are watermelon plants but still no fruit. (We went 2nd week of January) After a great time picking strawberry we had strawberry ice cream which is perfect after a day under the sun. The ice cream tastes good and refreshing. Inside the cabin you can buy other local items and pre pick strawberry. Definitely we will be back next year. But we will wait for the watermelons .

Good riding and tracks, it's just that I found following the map and trail markers more difficult than I think they need to be. The ones I rode had hit and miss signs stating their name. The map is marked with numbers and symbols denoting ride direction. I just think that the track signs could also have their name and number and whether it is no entry, two way and it's grade. Possibly even colour code so non locals would no trail grades.

Good hip for learning trix, amazing bowl even though I’m not even a major vert skater but it’s well built and pretty much a perfect half pipe 😽😽 What else, the euro gap requires heaps of speed but once you got a feel for it you be aight. It even has a MINI with no coping I landed my first front 50 270 out 🤯 Top of it all the local community made me feel like home, absolute shredders too I just don’t got enough words to describe how amazing this place is. Awesome MTB trails! I rode round comfortably on a hardtail hired from the Bike Lounge in Wanaka. The trails are smooth and fast. Really great riding! You access the trails from the back of the campsite car park. Bear in mind the trails are one-way. I chose the hard option half way and found it challenging, but not impossible. Enjoy!

Great little 11km circuit. Lots of nice bermed flowy corners with only a little bit of climbing descending. Mostly in shade apart from the first and last km. But that's actually not the main reason we were there... So back to business. The day started slowly and the fish seems to be a bit lazy. But davys skills and experience on the lake got them out of their hideout. So we caught the first really beautiful brown trout and cooked it straight away on board. What a lunch! Second one was a shine, nice rainbow. And last bit not least another big boy, brown trout. So dinner was safe! Thanks Lake wanaka for giving us food. And Davy for making this happen :) We had been out a bit longer than actually planned. But that's fishing, sometimes you just forget about the time... The communication worked out perfectly . I forgot my beanie at the end of our trip I went to the office and ask the ladies to give him a call... So I can might pick it up myself if he finds it. He had a look and a day later I picked it up from the I site office because he dropped it off there the next day. Super simple witouth any problems. It was too small for him anyway I guess :) So thank you very much for this awesome day and see you soon!

Awesome experience, Davy was absolutely amazing for our fishing charter. He does the most fishing charters on the lake more than the other companies and knows all the best spots to catch fish. Very well rounded and charismatic character, experienced fisherman. Good outlook and role model for life in general. He cooked up our fish on the bbq for lunch on the boat and Gillette the other we caught so they would fit in our camper fridge for us to cook up later.

A fantastic day out, Davy was extremely friendly, patient and informative. We were lucky enough to catch 4 large trout and enjoy them BBQ'd on the boat. The boat itself was extremely warm and comfortable (even on a slightly windy day) and the homemade muffins and tea were an extra treat! Thank you so much once again - will definitely be booking in for another trip soon!

Had a fantastic day on the lake with Davy. Very organised, great warm boat. Davy has abundance of knowledge and experience and is overall a good character. Really appreciate the flexibility accommodating for having our 9 month old boy on the board too. Highly recommended!

We had a great time with Davy out on the lake. He was a great guide and entertained us even when there were no fish. We did however, catch two fish and they were both delicious. It was a lovely experience and we will definitely come again!

Great morning spent with Davy on the lake. Caught three trouts and eat them on the boat. Davy gave us the left over fish in fillet to bring it back home. Thanks a lot !

Nestled between the charming shops of Wanaka and the Community Center, Bullock Creek offers a delightful escape into nature. The picturesque boardwalk, lovingly created by the Friends of Bullock Creek, invites visitors to stroll along its serene path while keeping an eye out for fish swimming in its crystal-clear waters. A short yet pleasant walk meanders around the creek, featuring a quaint bridge that adds to its charm.
Cute ducks are in the creek.

The creek is located between the first block of shops in Wanaka and the Community center. There is a small walk around it as well as a metal birds statue. The walk around the area is quite short but is quite nice as it goes over the creek on a small bridge. It is small and quite easy to miss.

From wine tasting at Maori Point through to exploring the old Bendigo mining town and completing our tour with a cold beverage at a beautiful lakeside pub.
