Santa Catalina Monastery, located in Arequipa, Peru, is a 16th-century monastery of Dominican nuns that offers guided tours to the public. This historical site was founded as a nunnery in 1580 and continues to function today. The monastery occupies a large area surrounded by imposing stone walls, resembling a fortress. Once restricted from public access, it has become one of the city's most popular tourist attractions and is considered a masterpiece of colonial architecture.
Ticket price was reasonable. Santa Catalina Monastery was quite a unique place and well worth a visit. There was a fair bit to see, with lots of different sections to walk through. The colours were striking and very contrasting, made the place feel lively despite its quiet nature. It gave a good sense of how the nuns used to live. I especially liked the old kitchens, simple but very interesting. Highly recommend it if you are in Arequipa.
River A — Google review
A beautiful place, a city within a city. The monastery is in very good condition, and the guides provide professional service in several languages. Regular admission is 45 soles, but on the 10th of each month, it's 15 soles. The only thing is that it's not recommended for wheelchair users or strollers (no ramps available)
Fernando N — Google review
Completely worth the cost of admission. I went here with my wife and 3 year old. They both enjoyed their visit. The site was bigger than most monasteries I have visited in the past. It was packed with fascinating information. It makes a great contrast with other Peruvian religious sites and gives you a fuller picture. One thing to note, it might not be the best place do go if you have a use a wheelchair or a stroller. Take your time when visiting and drink plenty of water.
John C — Google review
An amazing citadel, so well preserved and maintained it's unreal. Sometimes I had to remind myself I was not inside a replica at some amusement park but in a real monastery that's full of history. Entrance is S/45, then for an extra S/10 you can get a one-hour guided tour. We did just that and had the amazing Diana all to ourselves. Otherwise you can scan the QR codes along the way and read the information for free. One of my best historical site visits ever!
Eugenio C — Google review
Visiting the Santa Catalina Monastery is like stepping back in time. The colorful walls, quiet courtyards, and narrow streets create a peaceful atmosphere that feels worlds away from the city. Every corner tells a story, and the mix of history, art, and architecture makes it a truly unique experience. A must-see place if you visit Arequipa — perfect for wandering, taking photos, and enjoying a calm moment surrounded by beauty and history. 🌺📸
Daysy N — Google review
45 soles per person to enter. Although I found this to be quite pricey the Convent had plenty of information and we actually spent a few hours here as there was so much to learn about. You can pay 10 soles for a tour guide per person or download their app for free which explains each room. It really was fascinating and worth the visit here.
Kara H — Google review
A very beautiful and very old monastery that gives you an interesting view of the life of the nuns. Many of the old cells seem like the nun living in it might rewritten any minute. The fruit garden was one of my favorite places in the vast, colorful and beautifully decorated edifice. There is free wifi and a guide you can download if you don't want to take a tour guide which you'd have to pay extra.

Amazing place, full of Stories. A must visit. I recommend beeing there at 9, so it is not so crowed and you can enjoy the place almost for your own.

The Museo Santuarios Andinos, located in Arequipa, is a significant museum that houses the frozen mummy of 'Juanita,' an Incan princess who was sacrificed in the 1500s. The museum, which is part of the Universidad Catolica de Santa Maria, features around nineteen Inca mummies and various archaeological artifacts.
Don't be put off by the other reviews! We saw interesting artefacts, we weren't rushed, the lady who gave English tour was pleasant and the tip was only mentioned at the end. The fact that the 'mummy' is a real life replica is a good thing imo...I don't enjoy seeing real human dead bodies!
Rebecca — Google review
Infos/Tips: - It is clearly forbidden to take pictures inside the museum - It cost 25 SOL (without guide tip) - When buying a ticket, you will be assigned to a specific hour and a group (Spanish, English or French) - You CANNOT visit the museum without a guide - The visit of the museum take approximately 1 hours (You have the guided tour for 45 to 50 minutes) and then there is another room you can do at your own pace without a guide The Museo Santuarios Andinos is most famous for housing the well-preserved mummy of “Juanita,” also known as the “Ice Maiden,” an Inca girl who was sacrificed around 500 years ago on the summit of Mount Ampato. The museum provides a fascinating insight into Inca rituals, beliefs, and the scientific discoveries related to the mummy, as well as a few others
Thomas D — Google review
Just completed the guided tour of Museo Santuarios Andinos. As others have noted, the guide is mandatory. Entrance fee is 25 soles plus tip. Photography is not allowed. I had a private French-language tour since I was the only participant. The museum was crowded, so we explored rooms out of order when space became available. The guide rushed through the exhibition without allowing time for independent exploration. The entire tour lasted only 20 minutes. While the exhibition is interesting, I found limited value beyond what's readily available online (like the Wikipedia article on Mummy Juanita). I understand why the actual mummy isn't displayed for preservation reasons, but paying 30 soles (25 + 5 tip) for pottery, dolls, and textiles felt excessive. I'm disappointed and feel robbed. In my opinion, not worth the cost for what's offered.
Yuval B — Google review
Some of the most interesting artifacts I saw in Peru. The main exhibit is no longer exhibited to ensure its preservation, fair enough. However, the museum is very small. 25 soles + guide tip is obscene for such a tiny museum. Even in Europe, £5 would be overpriced for that. The mandatory guide told us some interesting things but the delivery was very flat and provided no better value than if they had put in signs. No photos, presumably because it's owned by a catholic uni.
Andy B — Google review
As mentioned, the guide is mandatory. Entrance fee is 25 soles plus tip. Our guide did not rush and left time for questions but we would have preferred to read the signs. The entire tour lasted only 20 minutes. The spiel did seem to gloss over what was effectively quite a brutal (I appreciate by modern standards) child murder and frame it as a privilege. But I guess that’s a matter of personal taste. I am quoting another reviewer below because I agree 100% with them. I found limited value beyond what's readily available online (like the Wikipedia article on Mummy Juanita). I understand why the actual mummy isn't displayed for preservation reasons, but paying 30 soles (25 + 5 tip) for pottery, dolls, and textiles felt excessive. I'm disappointed and feel robbed. In my opinion, not worth the cost for what's offered.
Cara D — Google review
The entrance fee is 25 soles, and it’s mandatory to visit the museum with a guide. However, the guide is not included in the ticket price, you have to pay extra, which makes no sense if it’s a required part of the visit. The tour goes at the guide’s pace and in the order they choose, so you can’t really take your time to read or explore everything. The famous “Juanita” mummy is actually just a copy, and even though it’s not the real one, they still keep it inside a sort of freezer — which also doesn’t make much sense. Overall, it’s not worth it and feels like a robbery.
Aida G — Google review
N.B. We didn’t actually visit - just wanted to say as we found it difficult to see from the website - a tour is mandatory (free; you pay the guide what you think at the end), you cannot visit and walk around alone. The tours are group tours, in different languages several times a day. I couldn’t see a way to book tickets or view the times in advance online. Also, I had read that Juanita is not displayed for a few months of the year as she has to be preserved. I can’t remember the period but I am certain it wasn’t for September. However when we got there we were told she wasn’t on display. For these reasons I believe it is best to go there in the morning and see what times are on offer for you to visit, and whether Juanita is on display, then you can plan your day.
Jenna W — Google review
I waited 15 minutes for the next tour. The guide was very nice and provided a lot of information during the museum tour. Unfortunately, ‘Juanita’ was not there, only a model, but that was fine too.

Mundo Alpaca is a must-visit museum and boutique in Arequipa, offering a unique experience with llamas and alpacas. Visitors can explore the habitat of these fascinating creatures and learn about their significance through detailed explanations. The museum also features textile exhibits showcasing items made from alpaca wool, providing an opportunity to purchase souvenirs. Additionally, Mundo Alpaca offers free tours of its facility, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the world of alpacas.
We really enjoyed our visit there, the staff was amazing, explained everything and answered every question you might have. It’s really informative and the alpacas & lamas are obviously cute. Its a great way to get to now the industry & traditions and get an idea about how important the lama & alpaca production are for Peru. The shop is nice and offers a variety of alpaca clothing and accessories. So you can get a good idea and feel how real alpaca wool/products feel. The staff there is also really helpful and there is no pressure to buy anything. They are part of the global blue Programm (tax free) We actually went there twice.
Lukas M — Google review
Mundo Alpaca was a pleasant surprise! We learned a lot about the clothing industry that uses Alpaca and Llamas fiber and the way the company - Michell y Cía is doing great work not only in producing clothing but also great work with local communities helping them grow, building schools and creating other social and environment projects. The entrance is free and you can even visit the store and buy some really high quality clothing items.
Madalena — Google review
Make sure you go in on the right hand side not through the shop. Some nice information and a few alpacas but they were in the back two out of three times. The shop has a very extensive selection of 100% alpaca clothes with a wide selection of colours for both men and women. The cafe is a great place to take in the beautiful garden. The fruit smoothie was a little under whelming. Needs more flavour but the chocolate cake which is the only option was good. If you are lucky! You'll see the resident cat asleep in the shop 🐈
Alex C — Google review
Free museum in a beautiful garden with different species of trees. You learn tons about the history of Alpaca breeding through the civilisations, as well as the wool industry. There's a small pen with llamas and alpacas, which you can pet and feed bunches of alfalfa supplied by the friendly staff. The establishment includes an art installation, a café and a store where you can browse baby alpaca & vicuña wool clothing items. A truly lovely experience.
Eugenio C — Google review
Lovely sanctuary for cameloids. Guide was very knowledgeable. It seems it was a sanctuary for people during Covid. They sell beautiful handmade textiles
Jolanta P — Google review
Our guide lead us to this place, we were able to feed some alpacas and make amazing pictures. There is a museum attached to it which shares the culture and knowledge of these animals. There is also a shop where you can buy high quality alpaca clothes. But they pricey.
Manuel-Johann ( — Google review
It's a small museum about alpaca, sharing how the alpaca wool is processed, and it's also interesting to feed the alpaca here. No entrance ticket needed.
SH W — Google review
This is a free place to see some llama and read about them and how they are able to weave it into clothing. It’s a nice place to stop and learn about this process.

The Basilica Cathedral of Arequipa is a massive Catholic cathedral in Peru, known for its on-site museum displaying religious objects and artwork. Despite being damaged and rebuilt multiple times due to earthquakes over its 500-year history, it remains one of the most beautiful Roman Catholic churches in the country. Situated in a popular tourist area near landmarks like the Santa Cantalina monastery and Colca Canyon, it attracts many visitors.
This is one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world. I must say the architecture is unique. All made in white volcano lava stone. I did not pay any money to enter but I just went to pray. I must say you can take a private tour and walk further down into the convent, I adore the sculpture of Lucifer.
Ljubica B — Google review
The Basílica Catedral de Arequipa is not just an architectural marvel — it’s a living monument to the city’s resilience, faith, and cultural identity. Whether you're a history lover, architecture enthusiast, or just wandering through Arequipa's beautiful center, this cathedral demands your time and admiration. It’s the heart of the White City — and it absolutely feels like it.

As a student I paid 5 sol, I got a guided tour of the cathedral, the museum and the bell tower. It was spectacular! No pictures were allowed in the museum but some pieces were breathtaking, I highly recommend. The bell tower had a fantastic view of the Plaza de Armas! Throughout the tour Percy, our tour guide, spoke Spanish to others in my group but changed to speak English to me and my sister. He was amazing!!
Joni D — Google review
Beautiful church and plaza in the area. Recommend to go inside if you have the possibility.
Theo M — Google review
Nice cathedral with good views from the rooftop. You must have a guide before you can enter so do have to wait for that but the guide is good. I’d prefer (and recommend) a fixed fee ticket price including the guide to make it more transparent.
Jason P — Google review
Ten soles for the ticket and whatever you want to pay for the mandatory tour. The guide only delivered the tour in Spanish but he was immensely friendly, knowledgeable and humorous. They take you to the museum (no photos or videos) and the rooftop. Absolutely worth the time and money and then some.
Saikhnaa — Google review
Beautiful basilica! Must see.
Michel L — Google review
Worth visiting. Not being used to hold regular mass except for special occassions, same as the Lima cathedral that been turned into a museum. Need to enter the museum to view the interior of the cathedral. The entrance is on the left side. The ticket to museum is accompanied by a guide. Beautiful architecture. No picture taking on the gold and silver collections at the exhibits. Youll be able to climb on the roof deck to see the bell towers and the views of the mountains and volcano surrounding Arequipa.

The Monasterio de Carmelitas Descalzas de San José y Santa Teresa in Arequipa is a stunning 17th-century convent that serves as a living museum, preserving its original layout and objects from over three centuries ago. The colonial-era buildings are renowned for their ornate painted walls and restored rooms showcasing valuable art pieces, murals, precious metalwork, and historical artifacts.
Beautiful spiritual place, lots of historic artwork and history of this monastery. As a foreigner in Arequipa I was eager to learn about the history of this place and they did a good job of explaining and inviting you in. Very peaceful, and at the end we were able to buy cookies that the nuns had baked. I wish they had a website where I could buy them! If you are in Arequipa stop by here!
It’s P — Google review
We had the wonderful opportunity to interact with one of the nuns to buy some cookies and to chat a little. All through a revolving "door", we didn't see each other, but could hear/be heard with no problem. If you visit the Monastery's museum, visiting the nun's "little store" is a must!
Rocio T — Google review
Beautiful! It is way smaller than Santa Catalina convent, but this one feels cosy and the museum is also very interesting. They have beautiful rare pieces of art. Also, the patio is beautiful and a quiet place to rest and enjoy. A must go! Entrance fee is 20 soles, but you can go on the 16th day of every month and you will get a 2x1 fee (10 soles each, if you buy two tickets).

Monasterio y Museo de la Recoleta is a former monastery located on the western side of the Rio Chili in Arequipa. It has been rebuilt several times due to earthquakes and now houses museums of archaeology, Amazonian artifacts, and a vast library with over twenty thousand works. The monastery itself is an interesting place to explore, featuring stunning cloisters and colonial halls that now host Universidad Nacional de San Agustin (UNSA).
Very large and diverse collection in the museum, the library is incredible and the church very pleasant to see. Barely any other tourist was in this clearly underrated place
Tom D — Google review
A decent stop although a bit of a weird mix of items, from stuffed animals to different country's currencies. The library was beautiful and the grounds were fine but not as well maintained as some other places, but it's a decent, shorter stop.

Nice collection of pre Colombian ceramics, textiles and artifacts. Very interesting historical Franciscan monastery. Very good view from the bell tower if you have the courage to take the 4 story spiral stairs. The entrance fee as of July 2024 is 15 soles efectivo only.
Sean R — Google review
Underrated! This museum has a surprisingly diverse collection, from pre-columbian art and religious pieces to coins, toys and even animals. The courtyards are beautiful and peaceful, I only met a few other visitors there. Don't miss the second floor, there's a really unique library up there and you can even climb the church tower for panoramic views 🌟

Nearly walked away after ringing the bell twice but it was worth the wait. There are so many gardens, galleries, historic coins, the church itself, the gallery and the bell tower which I recommend if you aren't scared of heights.
Alex C — Google review
We had an amazing time at this museum. It is very cheap in price only, there is a wealth of interesting artefacts to discover inside. Even without the exhibition the monastery would be worth looking at. I personally especially enjoyed seeing how the monks lived and would like to thank the super friendly guy at the reception (Friday Nov. 8) who took the time to personally explain some instruments and share some interesting facts.

A must visit in my opinion. 15 soles entrance fee. If you’re feeling adventurous, climb up the bell tower.

Iglesia de San Agustín, situated on a street of the same name, is a remarkable example of Baroque architecture dating back to 1575. Despite enduring significant damage from the powerful earthquake in 1868, the church underwent extensive restoration in the 19th century. This included the addition of Neoclassical embellishments to both its interior and facade. The church is admired for its grandeur and cleanliness, making it a beloved attraction in Arequipa.

Yanahuara Plaza is a large, peaceful park with palm and flower-lined paths. It's a great place to relax and take in the view of El Misti volcano. Mario Vargas Llosa Palace is located nearby, making it an excellent location for business meetings or photo shoots.
Good lookout to the city and volcanoes. When there are events or celebrations, there is big food court and scene for performance

It wasn't that high as I expected. Not a good place to see sunset because it's opposite way. If the weather is good, it would be nice to see the Volcano Misti.

I walked up here from my hotel because I needed a walk. I was pleased I did. It was a lovely afternoon and there were lots of people. Nice little tourist stalls, bars, restaurants and heladería. I had a limonada up on Las Terrazas. There’s a nice little park too.

Nice place to stay for a little while. It is close to Arequipa's main square, and some tours take you there. You can find an impressive view of a volcano and a lot of "queso helado". Just bare in mind that it can be full of tourists and there is not a lot of space

The Cloisters of The Company is a charming pedestrian district located in the former cloisters of the Church of the Company in Arequipa. This 18th-century complex has been transformed into a hub of shops and cafes, offering visitors a delightful shopping experience within exquisitely preserved structures built with volcanic rock. The architectural style reflects a blend of indigenous and European elements, creating a stunning display of mansions, courtyards, cloisters, and churches.
Most beautiful architecture… the place is just simple stunning. The church is just breath taken full of arts snd sculptures…. Is free to enter your the yard and the church but you can pay for a tour if you wish. I advise to come here and spend time admiring the architecture. If you are religious this is the place.
Ljubica B — Google review
A unique and beautiful architecture in the center of Arequipa with a lot of small stores and things to see. 100% recommend to walk around the area here.
Theo M — Google review
This beautiful and historical yard is free to visit from the streets. You will also find restaurants and coffee shops in the yard. It is not a huge area, you can walk through it end to end within about five minutes. It will also help if you get some guides to explain when and how it was built, then visit the church near by.
Tim C — Google review
Beautiful place to walk through with all the old architecture. There are a few restaurants and stores but mostly the space is empty. It's privately owned and there is a sign at one entrance not to take pictures but no one enforces that.

Infos/Tips: - Take around 15 minutes to visit - Free entrance The Claustros de la Compañía (Cloisters of the Company) is a historic and architectural gem that offers a glimpse into the rich colonial past of the region. This site is notable for its beautiful architecture, cultural significance, and vibrant marketplace. The Cloisters of the Company are part of the larger La Compañía Church complex, which was built by the Jesuits in the 17th century. This Baroque-style church and its cloisters are located in the heart of Arequipa, near the Plaza de Armas, making it a central and accessible historical site. The Cloisters feature classic Baroque architectural elements, including intricate stone carvings and ornate facades. The use of sillar, a white volcanic stone typical of Arequipa, gives the structures a distinctive and elegant appearance.
Thomas D — Google review
The Compañía de Jesús was constructed in 1573 and reconstructed each time after Arequipa's many earthquakes. It is a complex of the historic church of the same name, shops, and restaurants amid ornate plazas and buidings carved from sillar, or compacted volcanic ash. The businesses here are somewhat more upscale than the typical souvenir shops and sell original art, clothing made from alpaca and vicuña, and Arequipa's famous Anis Najar.
Charles T — Google review
A must see in Arequipa. Beautiful place and some of the better shoos with Alpaca clothes. It was build as part of the church but is now a place with small shops, restaurants and cafes. Also a stop for many to have a picture in front of the fountain.
Jens O — Google review
It takes about five to ten minutes to walk around, the entrance is voluntary. The details of the columns are beautiful. Try to spot the references of Inca culture mixed with the Spanish culture carved in volcanic stone.

Perched on the west side of the square, Waya Lookout - Rooftop - Terraza offers a unique experience with its rooftop setting that allows visitors to freely wander around and capture stunning views of the square, church, and Misti Volcano. It's recommended to visit an hour before sunset for a less crowded experience and snagging the best tables with unobstructed views.
Guide said it was the best place to see the sunset. You get a 360 degree view. The roof below it overlooking plaza de armas is a little ugly, but you can still get some good pics. The chicken quinoa bowl was AMAZING! So many fresh vegetables and flavors. Very filling. More vegetables than quinoa so I didn’t just fill up on quinoa. My bill with the bowl and two Pilsen beers was just under 60 soles.

4.5/5 stars. Nice vibe, beautiful panoramic views of the city & surrounding mountains. Service was friendly if a bit slow, they were pretty busy when our large party arrived but fit us in on the rooftop! The lomo saltado was 10/10 delicious, the cuy was crispy, if an acquired taste, but the Sudado de Lomo was lacking in flavor, would not recommend

It houses over 300 works of art, including paintings, porcelain, and liturgical items from the 16th and 17th centuries. The museum also features peaceful gardens, an ornate sanctuary, and offers guided tours for a better understanding of its history.
One of the best museums in Arequipa. The beautiful grounds, gardens, architecture and art pieces are amazing. Most of the exhibits have descriptions in both Spanish and English and there is an English audio tour available via one’s cell phone. The entrance fee is 20 soles with additional discounts for seniors and students. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the facility is well maintained.

Nestled in the heart of Arequipa, the Casa Museo Mario Vargas Llosa is a captivating tribute to the life and literary genius of Nobel Prize-winning author Mario Vargas Llosa. This museum occupies the very house where he spent his childhood, offering visitors an intimate glimpse into his formative years and the rich cultural backdrop that shaped his writing. With only 48 visitors allowed each day, it’s essential to plan ahead for this unique experience.
I was very impressed by this visit and the way they organized the museum and maintained the original pieces. The visit was about one hour long, but time really flew. The guide provided us with a lot of information about the personality of the writer, his life and activity. I strongly recommend!
Delia D — Google review
I loved this museum - it was like stepping through different movie sets and the lighting was superb. I was the only visitor, which made me think it’s under appreciated. The videos were high quality and the guide was excellent. It does help to have read some of Mario Vargas Llosa’s work. If not it might inspire you - he’s a Nobel prize winner and deeply humanitarian author. However some works are more accessible than others and many deal with difficult subject matter. Maybe start with Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter, which is very funny and brilliantly captures the vibe in 1950s Miraflores, Lima. In fact, reading his work inspired me to visit Peru!
Mark R — Google review
Amazing experience. The museum is mostly and audio/visual tour of Vargas Llosa's life. However, it is done with different rooms set up to represent times and themes in his life. For example, one room is the inside of a Lima street car. Of course, there are lots of mementos, photos, and copies of his book. And the museum has his real Nobel medal. (They give every winner two of those.) The tours are only in Spanish. The woman who gave most of our tour spoke very clearly, however. The one member of our group with the lowest level of Spanish understood much of what she said.
Don M — Google review
The tour and videos are all in Spanish so I'd say you need an intermediate level of Spanish to visit the museum. The guide led me through the house and in each room there is a video giving some information. Most of the rooms are dimly lit and I was alone on my tour so I felt slightly uncomfortable throughout. Some creative exhibits though.
Rosie G — Google review
Very interactive museum with great storyline and great interior, as well as staff. We felt warm welcomed and given a lot of attention!
Martynas S — Google review
Selective, sycophantic and hagiographic. An unfortunate interactive format that, at some points, did not work and was just distracting. There is essentially nothing left of his home - all has been converted into a Disneyworld pastiche, in the service of the technology. An early low point was the virtual recreation of the moment of his birth (!!) that largely set the tone for the rest of the visit. Hard to imagine a more self-serving glorification. It did not inspire any of us to want to know more, much less read any of his work. Happy to leave and escape the embarrassment.
Adrian C — Google review
Be careful - there a lots of fake reviews regarding the museum from bot profiles from India and Pakistan. There is very little information online, only that it closes at 4 pm. We arrived at 3.01 pm. The gates were locked. They accepted our entrance as they saw we were foreigners - they seem to grant some kind of preference to foreigners to the detriment of Peruvians, which seems kind of crazy. It all seemed very improvised, and the place seems kind of abandoned. They dont provide change for cash payments. Do not waste your time.

Good spot to get some pretty decent food and chocolate drinks. Don't sit at the cylindrical coil table. I made the mistake of putting my feet on the bottom part of it which nearly flipped the table. (Translated by Google) Located next to the Plaza de Armas, this colonial house is one of the best-preserved from the period. The feline-shaped knockers on its main door stand out, a symbol of high military rank indicating that, for years, the property was in the hands of soldiers and their families. You can also see the bulla, flower-shaped ornaments very common in colonial architecture. These ornamental details are repeated throughout the house, both in the metalwork and in the ashlar carving, reflecting the artistic style of the period. The art is relevant and intriguing. I received the warmest welcome by the hostess of the museum who gave me an explanation of the museum. I was here in total for about 45 minutes.

I liked this art gallery! It’s completely FREE! And the location is great, in the downtown. The exhibition was well organized and all the pieces of art were so beautiful. I got know it was a Russian artist exhibition, that warmed up my heart as I’m from Russia 🇷🇺🫂 Highly recommended to visit this place ✅

Yanahuara Scenic Overlook is a breathtaking spot in Arequipa that offers stunning views of the city and the Misti volcano. The overlook is composed of engraved arches and panoramic vistas, making it a popular place for tourists to take pictures and enjoy the natural beauty.
Not to be missed. Excellent point of view. Discovered as part of a bus city tour. But you could just easily walk there.
Jean M — Google review
The Yanahuara overlook is definitely a spot worth visiting in Arequipa. The views over the city with El Misti volcano in the background are just amazing, a perfect place for photos and to take in the scenery. The stone arches with engravings give the place a nice authentic touch and make it feel special. For us, it was a bit difficult this day since it was a public holiday and quite crowded, but even then, the atmosphere was nice and lively. If you catch it on a quieter day, I can imagine it’s even more relaxing. Overall, a beautiful place to spend some time and enjoy the view of Arequipa
Peter — Google review
Cool spot with a church, garden, and some stalls. Nice viewpoint to see the city and mountains. This weekend, there will be a food market.
Johann H — Google review
The view of el Misti and the city is very nice, especially at the sunset time.
SH W — Google review
Definitely worth to visit, you have an amazing view over the City with Misti behind it, it’s within walking distance of the old town but you could also take a cab there. We went there in the afternoon and in the evening, we would definitely recommend going there in the evening (supposedly the sunrise would look amazing too due to its orientation but we didn’t do that so no guaranties). Next to the viewpoint there are some places selling souvenirs and there was a cart selling juice.
Lukas M — Google review
A bit crowded with locals but very nice atmosphere and we liked it a lot.
Frank L — Google review
Went on a Sunday, not too crowded on a tour. Excellent for photos of the volcanoes and even couples to group photos. The history of the arches and the church with the green cross was cool. It's probably 15-20 minutes walk from the shopping square over the river.
Bill D — Google review
Beautiful viewpoint to see the city from above and especially the volcano Misti. Very imponent. A mandatory picture. The place is usually crowded. There was a local market with very interesting objects like an old Arequipan passport.

Nestled in the heart of Arequipa, the Museo Arqueológico UNSA is a treasure trove for history enthusiasts and curious travelers alike. This charming museum showcases an impressive collection of over 11,000 artifacts that span thousands of years, offering a glimpse into the rich tapestry of ancient civilizations that once thrived in this region.
Amazing and short museum to see the artifacts and art of the region through the different eras. They had about 5 mummies as well! And only 5 soles entry. Don’t miss it while you’re in Arequipa.
Miguel L — Google review
Very interesting, short visit. Be aware there are 3 skeletons/mummies on show. -1 star as it feel like you’re being followed around, and reminded not to take photos when you aren’t even taking any photos.
Joshua G — Google review
Very small but well ordered and maintained museum with a decent variety of artifacts. Cost is low, was 5 soles per person. It only took us about 18 minutes to go through the small galleries and we enjoyed them and took our time. The mummies were very fascinating to see. No photographs were allowed in the interior gallery of the artifacts, but the lady working told us the small section after the ancient artifacts with the bench and holy family and replica heads was ok to photograph. Only improvement I would recommend to the museum is to add a English version of the write up on more of the displays; about half had both Spanish and English language write ups, but a couple more would be neat. Overall, it’s worth a visit !
A. T — Google review
It’s a very short museum, maybe 15 minutes or so, but it has some neat artifacts and some beautifully preserved mummies. Visit is only 5 soles ($1.50ish) and I enjoyed it well worth that. My only problem is that there was not much information in english (or Spanish, for that matter) and I didn’t see anywhere to get a guide- but I also didn’t ask. This little museum is definitely worth a visit!
Nikolas W — Google review
Small but cool and well kept museum with ancient tapestry, big collection of pre-incan ceramics, mummies, wood carvings. Maybe the most interesting museum in Arequipa. Lovely lady named Gloria made me a short but informative tour for free. I popped for 15 minutes but spent there almost an hour. Worth to visit. Entrance fee is only 5 soles.

Nestled in the vibrant Plazuela de San Francisco, just above Santa Catalina, the Museo Histórico Municipal Guillermo Zegarra Meneses serves as a tribute to Arequipa's rich history and local heroes. This charming museum is dedicated to showcasing significant figures such as army leaders, revolutionary icons, presidents, and celebrated poets like Mariano Melgar.
This museum offers much diversity in a stone building with beautiful red colored wood floors. The history of earthquakes in Arequipa with photos, a coin laminator from the 1500's, a flag (very old) made of bird feathers, including hummingbird feathers, artwork, some appears to be political, and commercial fishing maps.

This is a wonderfully diverse museum. History of local earthquakes, numismatics, art, satirical art of Jorge Vinatea Reinoso, history pre Hispanic Peru and famed Peruvian authors. And more.

A decent place to see some folk art and other history about Arequipa. The cost is 10 soles (5 if student.. I also got in for 5 saying I was a professor but not sure that will work for you.) For 5 soles, I would say this place is worth it. For 10, it is up to you. Anyways, it is open more than other places, and it has clean bathrooms if you need one.

And its condition in the face of past earthquakes. On "Museum Day" admission is free, but when there are cultural events admission is also free. It has a small concert hall where students from the UNSA Faculty of Arts perform opera, music, and theater. You can see their activities on the Facebook page Professional School of Arts - UNSA. Good one stop place for souvenir shopping. It is a fairly large place and appeared to have all of the goods I saw in the street markets and more. If you're looking for a culinary adventure, the Peruvian Cooking Experience is an absolute must! This delightful cooking class offers a chance to dive into the rich flavors and history of Peruvian cuisine. Participants have enjoyed crafting traditional dishes like ceviche and lomo saltado, often with personalized instruction in intimate settings. The friendly instructors make learning fun, even if you’re not a seasoned chef—who knew cutting tomatoes could be such an art?
We had the most wonderful Peruvian cooking experience with Ally! From the moment we started prepping ingredients to the final beautifully plated dishes, everything was done with such care, authenticity, and passion. Ally guided us through each step with patience and enthusiasm, sharing not only the how, but also the why behind each element of the meal. Cooking from scratch made us appreciate the depth and flavor of Peruvian cuisine even more—and the end result was absolutely delicious. Every bite was a celebration of tradition and taste. Ally’s warmth and energy made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this for anyone looking to dive into Peruvian flavors in a fun, hands-on way!

*Update* - I’m responding to the experiences response. I’ve attached the booking confirmation with the prices of $32 per person… if the website tells you this don’t believe it. *Original* It is a reasonable experience and the instructor was very nice; however, it loses points for: - being a different price from the price stated when booked. It is not the $32 per person that it claims to be when you’ve booked for two people, it’s 130 soles per person flat fee ($35.80). I think it’s a bit shady to offer one price online and then be given a separate price when paying which is 10% higher. - if I was a solo traveller I wouldn’t do this experience. Not everyone gets to actually cook their meals because there isn’t enough space meaning some people are support staff which I don’t think is very good. - we got given the photos and the recipe book promptly after session; however it didn’t include the right recipes and/or showed different steps to those we were shown in the class??

We took the class featuring the sea menu (ceviche y pescado al mancho) with our two kids, 10 & 12. The class was small enough to feel like a private session, and the host was friendly and attentive to make sure we were following along. The name of this house is due to an old blackberry tree that grows in the main patio and belongs to the Banco de Crédito del Perú. Anyone can come and see it because today it works as a museum. On its façade you can see a large door made of ashlar. Where two angels hold a crown on a shield, which in turn is composed of a castle, a puma, a bird and two crossed keys. And this is completed with carved windows. Inside, colonial and Republican Peruvian furniture has been displayed. Its large rooms have ashlar vaults with carvings, as well as doors, windows and anagrams of Jesus, Joseph and Mary also carved in the center of these vaults. The second patio had the kitchen, servants' rooms, stables, pantry, storage rooms, among others. Likewise, this colonial residence houses a valuable collection of paintings from the Cusco School; there are more than 3 thousand volumes in its library, especially on the subject of Hispanic literature. In addition, there are old maps of America drawn by the most famous cartographers of the 16th and 18th centuries. (Original) De estilo barroco y del siglo XVIII. If you're looking for an unforgettable adventure, the "Trek Travel On Road" tour in Colca Canyon is a must-try! Led by the exceptional guide Armando, this two-day trek offers a unique experience as it takes you on a less-traveled path compared to other operators. With his multilingual skills and extensive knowledge of the area, Armando ensures that every question is answered while keeping the atmosphere light with humor.
We did the Colca canyon Trek for 2 days with Armando. It was absolutely breathtaking. The landscape is nothing short of spectacular. Everything we saw was perfectly complemented by Armandos stories about the present and the past. If you plan to book this tour, you cannot make a better decision as to go with Armando.

We did the 2 day Colca Canyon tour with Armando and we could not recommend him enough. Armando is a fantastic tour guide who speaks multiple languages and knows everything about the local area and beyond, there wasn't a question he could not answer. We learnt so much and had an amazing time. We did not see any other tour groups on our way down which meant we got to enjoy the trail all to ourselves for most of the journey. We were a small group and got to stay in a really nice hotel, all of the food was good as well! Unfortunately my partner got very ill whilst we were on the trek and Armando was fantastic, always checking on him and he also organised alternative transport for him as he was unable to continue with the hike. We were so grateful. This is the only company you should consider visiting Colca Canyon with, every part of the tour was exceptional.

We (32 and 34) had a great time with Armando during the "3 Days 2 Nights" trekking tour in Colga Canyon! Thanks to his friendly, informative and caring nature, we were able to thoroughly enjoy our time, even though we were not perfectly prepared for the trek in terms of physical fitness and equipment. He always kept us on the right pace and constantly provided interesting information about the canyon, the locals, plants and even star constellations. He did this for us in English without any problems. The fun and recommendations for the right drinks at the right time were also never lacking! 🎉 He also selected wonderful accommodation with very good food. The highlight was the oasis with pool in Colga Canyon! And most importantly, his professional manner always made us feel completely safe! He seems to be prepared for every (emergency) situation. Stay as friendly and committed as you are Armando! 😊

We can tell that Armando and Edgar work with passion, and they clearly make the difference compared to others. Highly recommend!! Thank you !

I’m not even sure I can put into words how insanely good the 2N1N Colca Canyon trek we did with Armando was. I had good expectations of this trip from word of mouth anyway but Armando blew it out of the water. He was recommended by somebody and I’m so glad we went with him. The fact he goes the other way to all the other tours, meant that when we were hiking, we were practically alone the whole time and barely crossed paths with many other people, it just felt so peaceful and serene and also meant our hike up on day 2 was less steps, though more incline but felt easier on the legs and we got to appreciate the views more than the other way around. The nights accommodation was really nice too, bed was so comfortable and dinner was good. We visited the oasis for lunch and an hours relaxation and this was appreciated as we got to enjoy the pool in the hot sun rather than later in the day! Could honestly not recommend Armando any more. Let him take you on an incredible adventure into the Canyon. 🙌🏽

An amazing trek with Armando! We did the 2 day 1 night trek in late March 2025 and had the best time, Armando does the trek the opposite way to all other tours so you benefit from the paths and the oasis being quiet. We saw an amazing sunrise on our way back and didn’t see another person for 5km! This has definitely been one of the highlights of our trip to Peru!

The tour goes into a reverse direction compared to the majority of other tour operators (it is a tough hike though, but doable if you’re fit) so most of the time it is just you walking in the impressive nature, on top of that the accommodation also seemed more comfortable compared to the other tours. Armando is a great guide who shares a lot of knowledge, humor and greatly guides you through the trek! Highly recommend!

The Museo Arqueológico San Agustín is home to the famous mummy known as Juanita, a young girl who was sacrificed and offered to the Incan gods over five hundred years ago. The museum provides a small yet well-informed space where visitors can learn about this extraordinary piece of history. The guide offers unique knowledge and answers all questions, making it an excellent place for photography and leisurely walks.

If you're looking for an enriching experience in Arequipa, the "Walk for Tips" tour is a fantastic option. Arriving early allows you to explore the charming streets without the hustle and bustle of large crowds. The knowledgeable guide, Carlos, ensures that everyone feels engaged and informed with personalized maps highlighting local eateries and attractions. His expertise extends beyond just guiding; he provides valuable insights into local cuisine and transportation options throughout Peru.
Carlos is an incredible tour guide! He gave one of the best walking tours I’ve ever been on, making sure to customize the tour based on people’s interests. He is fluent in many languages and even provided individual maps and printouts of food recommendations for each person to take home. If you are in Arequipa I highly recommend going on one of his tours!

Carlos was the best tour guide we could have ever wished for! Super knowledgeable, prepared and patient with all the questions we asked him. We were all given a map where he had personally made a note of places to eat, visit and shop which meant we were able to continue visiting Arequipa on our own after the tour ended. Moreover, Carlos gave us leaflets of typical foods to try and where to eat them and another leaflet of local bus routes. Highly recommend doing this tour if you want to learn about the history of the city from a local. Thank you Carlos!

Carlos was a fantastic guide around Arequipa and shared loads of interesting details about the city, sparing no effort to make the tour as informative and engaging as possible. He patiently answered all of our questions about the local area and Peru in general, and made great recommendations for attractions, restaurants, and bars - 5 stars!

An amazing walking tour in Arequipa. If you’re looking for a walking tour, don’t hesitate to do this one. Carlos is so passionate and knowledgeable about his city, and provides you with loads of tips and recommendations. The tour lasts around 3 hours and is great.

I would definitely recommend the free walking tour through Arequipa with Carlos. He speaks English, French, Spanish and a little bit of German. Carlos is very flexible, so that we did a private tour in the afternoon. He prepared a lot for us (a list of the local dishes to try, some nice and affordable adresses for lunch/diner) and gave us a lot of tips about travelling Peru (the costs of taxi, public transportation, etc.). Furthermore, he knows a lot and on very details his city, so that we didn’t need to ask questions. Very nice tour :)

Aquatic Park Tingo is a fantastic summer destination in Arequipa, perfect for families looking to have fun together. This vibrant water park features three heated pools suitable for both kids and adults, ensuring everyone can enjoy a refreshing dip. Additionally, there's an expansive lake spanning nearly 4,000 square meters where children can delight in whimsical boat rides shaped like animals. To top it all off, the food court offers a variety of options to keep you fueled throughout your day of adventure.

There is one who even appeared in the newspaper and they still have her working under the name VIVIANA and she is the head of the room. The other one is Vilma, which is why they fired her from the island, another casino, how ugly it is. You have women to entertain your men and I think that you are interested in people playing, not entertainment for their husbands, and the bosses turn a blind eye to this, especially someone who is pregnant, they fire them. to good girls and they leave the prostitutes, it's ugly that a casino like this beautiful one even has ordinary and vulgar bosses who don't listen to you, they leave you talking to yourself, you leave bitter because of this type of staff, you cut off the good guy, and they leave the cool guy. I lost a BRACELET of great value, I asked them to see the cameras and I told several bosses and from November to date there has been no response and I even asked this Viviana if sir I will ask and to date nothing Fia, my husband had left his purse behind and we realized that the man in the bathroom had taken it, they are thieves, both for the machines and for the staff who work, and the bosses don't listen to either of them. The pregnant woman is very ordinary and the another worse one I don't know Pi You can talk to her but I will also make a complaint to MINCETUR to check the machines since we as Chileans play a lot and don't pay anything, all Chileans complain but it would be good for mincetur to check them (Original) Este casino sobre todo el de tacna algunas anfitrionas de meten con los chileno hay una que salió hasta e el diario y todabia la tienen trabajando de llama VIVIANA y es jefa de sala la otra es Vilma por eso la despidieron del isla otro casino que feo que tengas mujeres para entretener a lis hombres y yo creo que a Ud les interesa que la gente juegue no entretencion para lis maridos y las jefas hacen vista gorda a esto sobre todo una que esta embarazada despiden a chicas buenas y dejan a las prostitutas que feo que un casino como este n bonito tenga hasta jefas ordinarias y vulgares que a uno no la escuchan la dejan hablando sola uno sale amargada por este tipo de personal al bueno lo desvincula y al moló lo dejan a mi se me perdió una PULCERA de gran valor pedí que vieran las cámaras y le dije a varias jefas y desde noviembre hasta la fecha no hay respuesta e incluso le pregunté a esta tal Viviana si señito preguntaré y hasta la fecha nada un fia a mi marido se le había quedado el monedero y nos dimos cuenta altiro y el del aseo de lo había llevado son ladrones tanto para más máquinas como personal que trabaja y las jefas no escuchan ninguna de las dos la embarazada es un muy ordinaria y la otra peor no se Pi Puede conversar con ella pero también haré un reclamo a MINCETUR para que revise las máquinas ya que nosotros como chilenos jugamos mucho y no pagan nada todos los chilenos se quejan pero sería bueno que mincetur las revise

It has terraces where there are barbecues that you can rent your space with large picnic benches with screen roofs that can seat about 8 people easily. The staff are on hand to bring more chairs and use pallets to provide small extra tables if required. The staff are exceptionally polite. There are clean toilet and hand washing facilities. It has a area of animals with ducks, guinea pigs, rabbit and a pair of vicuna that the staff will show you . For about $40 for the whole day its a great value.
