History Museums
The Larco Museum, located in the district of Pueblo Libre, is a former mansion turned into a museum that showcases an extensive collection of pre-Columbian artifacts. The museum offers a comprehensive overview of 5,000 years of Peruvian history, art, and culture through its well-curated galleries. Visitors can explore ancient ceramics and textiles while strolling through lush gardens. Guided tours are available for deeper insights into the significance of the exhibits.
This museum isn't very big but it has amazing pieces. I would really recommend a guided tour which is offered at an extra 10 soles - it really does a much better job of explaining what we are looking at. Very interesting pieces divided in 3 areas: the main museum (perhaps 5-6 rooms), the erotic gallery, and visible storage. The surroundings are also very nice and there is a great fancy restaurant too. A big tip would be to come early: we got there at 10-ish and had a tour just for both of us; by the time we were going out there were lines for tickets and the museum was very crowded.

Beautiful museum of artifacts from ancient Peruvian civilizations, including ceramics, textiles, and metalwork. The exhibits are nicely curated, and the collection is huge, but for an entry fee of 50 soles I would've expected a bit more variety and some other content than just constant display cases with accompanying text. Very interesting, but after a while it gets a little boring. Beside the main museum there's a separate exhibit for "erotic" artifacts, mainly pottery portraying sexually explicit scenes. It's included in the main ticket price. There's also a souvenir shop and a restaurant on site. There are explanatory texts in several languages for all exhibits, so English speakers for example can easily follow along. There's also an audio guide available, but this we didn't try. We spent approximately two hours walking through the museum, stopping briefly at most exhibits.

The Larco Museum in Lima is one of Peru’s finest museums and a must-visit for anyone interested in history and culture. Housed in an 18th-century colonial mansion, it features an outstanding collection of pre-Columbian art, including ceramics, textiles, metalwork, and jewelry from ancient civilizations like the Moche, Nazca, and Inca. One of its highlights is the world-famous gallery of erotic pottery, which is both fascinating and unique. The museum also offers beautifully curated exhibits with clear explanations in multiple languages, making it easy to understand Peru’s rich cultural heritage. The gardens and café add to the experience, creating a relaxing atmosphere after exploring the galleries. Perfect for culture lovers, history buffs, and anyone wanting a deeper understanding of Peru before (or after) visiting its archaeological sites.
Purba D — Google review
An excellent way to familiarise yourself with the various cultures of Peru, both Incan and Pre-Incan. Lots to see so probably allow around 90 minutes. It is slightly cheaper to book a ticket in advance online than pay at the museum. The small gardens are very colourful. Worth going here and combining with the National archaeological and anthropology museum, which is about a 20 minute walk away.
A T — Google review
This is a must to visit if you make it to Lima Peru. There are about 45k of antiques found in different sites in the whole Peru. They belong to the pre Inca culture. It is so surprised to see how well they all were preserved after 2000 or 5000 years underground. I did not have much time there for the last visit but next time when I come back I think I will spend a whole day here. Highly recommended.

🌟 An unforgettable experience—leave yourself plenty of time! Visited on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 with reservations from 5–7pm. We arrived early but were overdue for dinner, so we hit the restaurant before exploring the museum. Though that left us only about an hour inside. Despite the short visit, every detail of the museum, restaurant, and grounds impressed me. 🍽️ The restaurant is beautifully designed—definitely a bit upscale for my “hole-in-the-wall” tastes, but still worth the stop. Prices are on the higher side. 🌺 The grounds are stunning, with vibrant flowers everywhere and photo-worthy views around every corner. 🏺 The museum exhibits are top-notch, A+. What can be said about this collection that hasn't already been said? The quality, detail, and condition of these artifacts that are hundreds and thousands of years old, are second to none. Simply extraordinary. I'd recommend 3-5 hours or more if you really want to absorb and appreciate everything. So I'll definitely be returning for another visit as 1–2 hours isn’t nearly enough. 🗣️ Guided tours in Spanish are available for 10 soles and last about an hour. They didn’t offer English tours during our visit, but I believe they do offer them. They provide self-guided audio devices in English for the same price—I'll try that next time because I'm a fan of moving at my own pace. 🎁 Gift shop: Prices are steep, but it's a welcome addition. Far too many sites in Peru lack gift shops and miss the opportunity to cash in on visitors after the experience. People want souvenirs and they're willing to pay for them! 📍 Overall: This is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Lima. Don’t rush it—plan time to explore, then unwind with a meal or drink afterward.

Lovely place amazing collection of Indigenous artifacts, beautiful displays, and the garden, just stunning small but packed full of wonderful art. It also has a large erotic art section, very Peruvian cultural art, but best to keep the kiddos out of that section. Very nice!

The Magic Water Circuit of the Reserve Park, situated in Lima's Parque de la Reserva, is a captivating attraction featuring 13 fountains that come alive with colorful lights and laser beams at night. This mesmerizing display of water, light, and music offers an enchanting experience for families, art enthusiasts, and anyone seeking visually stunning entertainment. Visitors can enjoy nightly performances showcasing choreographed light displays amidst the dancing waters.
What a fun place!! The light show was very cool. Make sure you check the times for that;) Cheap entrance fee, but be prepared for little kids to want to get tickets for ball pits and bounce houses, etc... You can easily spend half a day here, or just come and see the show and be on your way! Beautiful fountains. Clean and well-kept areas. Plenty of restrooms, for a small fee, of course.
Janette B — Google review
It was like Las Vegas to me. I found out about this place through trip advisor tours and they were charging like $24. I took a taxi from Barranco and paid 5 soles for entrance. Much better going by my own versus paying extra money. It was fun!
Yea W — Google review
I really affordable fun experience for families with young children. You can definitely spend more money if you indulge in the amusements inside, but overall a really relaxing way to spend an evening in Lima I took some pictures of the amusement pricing to share here There are three showings a night of the projected show on the main fountain It does make a difference in visibility to be right at the center Concessions inside are pretty reasonably priced
Postcard T — Google review
The Magic Water Circuit in Lima is a beautiful and unique experience, even during the day. While most people recommend going at night for the lights and music, we visited during the day due to our airport schedule and still really enjoyed it. The fountains are stunning, the park is well maintained, and it’s a peaceful place to walk around and take photos. You can still appreciate the creativity and variety of the water displays without the nighttime light show. A great stop if you’re looking for something relaxing and scenic in the city! The only bothering thing was that they charge for using the bathroom even once you have paid to get in.
Geoffrey B — Google review
Such a beautiful park, I Kept walking past my park as I was walking around the city & every time I looked through & saw the fountains I thought I must go but nothing quite prepared me for just how beautiful it was. It is a family park so be prepared for lots of family activities & you do pay extra for certain rides, experience & entry but for me it was equivalent of a mini Disney land so the prices were beyond reasonable & the queues were nothing in comparison of what you might expect in European parks with a Sumatra offering in my experience. I highly recommend spending the day into the evening here so you get the full daylight & evening experience. Do make sure your phone is fully charged as you may want to take 1000 photos 🤣! Enjoy.
Tanya O — Google review
The size of a small village, this theme park type attraction has 13 fountains dotted around, fun fair rides, food stalls, kids play area, a land train. A few times a day a water display occurs much to the delight of all.
J M — Google review
The evening water show is so cool and a great mix of water, lights, and projections to show Pervuian culture. There's also games and other activities for kids to do. The toilets are clean and provided toilet paper, though you do pay 1.50 soles to use.
Shawna F — Google review
It’s a nice place to spend an afternoon/evening and escape the streets a bit. There are various fountains and also a butterfly house (only 2 species are alive in winter mai to September I guess). The entry fee is 5 soles we had to pay an extra 5 soles for the tunnel/2nd part as there is a Te Amo Peru festival with various installations. Moreover there is an additional fee of 8 soles for the butterfly house. And there is also a Jurassic park/world exhibit which would be an additional 8 soles (we didn’t do that). There are plenty of games for children some food stands and the laser/light show in the evening is also a nice touch.

Church
The Basílica and Convent of San Francisco in Lima is a Baroque-style Roman Catholic church and monastery known for its prominent library and underground catacombs. The monastery houses an incredible collection of ancient texts, some dating back to the Spanish conquest, while the basilica features a neoclassical style altar. The catacombs hold around 70,000 corpses, some arranged with a decorative sense. This site offers a glimpse into Lima's deep spiritual heritage.
Visiting in Lima with my daughter, we were told the Catacombs were a must-see. An easy walk from the Central Plaza, after a harrowing and very, very long taxi ride from Miraflores. On the approach to Basilica, we were offered private tours for 75s and 60s, but declined. The cost of admission, 20s, includes the tour, which was scheduled every 30 minutes, about 20 people at a time. Since there is no photography allowed, pics are only of area. The tour was actually very fascinating. Thousands of remains, some arranged in beautiful circles, some arranged on steps, and others arranged in bins by the different bones. Skulls in one, legs another, breastbones, etc. A great visit, well worth the time. One display that had me doing a double-take was Christ on the cross. It seemed as though it had a 3-D effect. As I looked closer, on Christ’s head was long flowing hair that was being blown by the wind (a fan). Wish I had taken a short movie but this was the starting of tour. Definitely a must.
L S — Google review
I wish I had spent more time here. The church is beautiful. You get a glimpse into the catacombs from inside. Tip: Entrance fee for the museum / catacombs must be paid in cash.
Tanya B — Google review
It's a really interesting and historic place to visit. My only complaint is that we're not allowed to take pictures for the museum and catacombs tour. However, despite that, still a five star stop for us.
Thomas G — Google review
It was a very nice experience to save a pair dance on the street outside the cathedral. Then we entered the exhibition hall and saw. So many people's bones skulls underneath the alter of the church. It was almost a journey of about 2 hours after that we entered the cathedral, there was Maghaz going on. And this one huge crowd sitting peacefully. Listening to Father. It was an amazing experience after that to see a parade in front of the presidential quarters. The guides explained everything very well. There are clean toilets on-site and all the artefacts and the architecture reflect European influence. In peru must visit
Dr.Mohina K — Google review
A visit to Lima would be incomplete, in my opinion, unless there is an afternoon spent seeing the Catacombs at this San Francisco Church. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, and made the 45 minutes of the tour of the museum & catacombs worth the long ride from Miraflores. Previously a monastery for the priests and members of the church, it has now been transformed into a museum. Rickety structures and the risk of collapse during earthquakes further add to the inhabitibility of the place. The catacombs have over 30,000 sets of bones, and this is presumed to be be just 20% of all the people that might have been buried beneath the church between 1600s to late 1700s.. they included people from all ethnicities (all Christian, of course), across all genders and age groups. Seeing child bones in the midst was a real sad moment, and a reality check. The church was closed, so we did not get to see the inside, but the outer gate was enough to understand the beauty of its architecture. Day & time of visit - Sunday, November, 12pm. Cost of entry ticket - 30 Soles per adult (card payment accepted). Tip for guide - cash only.
Harshita S — Google review
Indiana Jones Would Approve If you come to Lima and skip this place, you’ve made a mistake. A big one. Beneath the Basílica and Convent of San Francisco lies a cryptic maze of catacombs—more than 35,000 human remains stacked in perfect circles and lined along narrow hallways like some forgotten ossuary art installation. It’s four meters under the surface, damp, echoing, and unforgettable. Entry costs about 20 soles ($5.61 USD), and yes, you’ll need a guide. No worries—local guides will approach you the moment you step foot on the property. They claim it's tip-based, but plan to pay around 10 soles ($2.80 USD) per person. Worth every sol. Our guide took just three of us through, which made the experience even more surreal. The tour lasts about 40 minutes and includes the church above. While we wandered beneath, mass was underway above us—hymns reverberating through stone and bone. It felt like stepping into an Indiana Jones film, minus the booby traps. This isn’t just a tour. It’s an encounter with the past. Visceral. Humbling. Mysterious. Come for the bones. Stay for the stories. And don’t forget to look up—you’re walking under centuries of prayers.

Huaca Pucllana Site Museum is an ancient pre-Inca archaeological site situated in Miraflores, offering a captivating journey into Lima's pre-Columbian history. The clay and adobe pyramid complex provides valuable insights into the indigenous cultures that once thrived in the region. Guided tours are available to enhance the understanding of the site's historical significance, making it an educational destination for history enthusiasts, archaeology buffs, and families with older children.
2000+ years of history packed into the center of Miraflores. A must see when visiting Lima to acquire some of the history and respect for previous civilization. The adobe architecture is incredible as millions of bricks were assembled into the pyramid that took hundreds of years to assemble. Get to see some of the agriculture and animals of Peru - guinea pigs and alpacas. The museum offers some insight, but the real value is the guided tours that leave every 30 minutes and are offered in both English and Spanish. Cost of entry is S/ 15, about $4 (includes the tour)
Kristian P — Google review
The tour was excellent! It lasted about 40 minutes, and the guides were very knowledgeable. The ruins are in the middle of Miraflores, right next to a great restaurant with a beautiful view of the site. Just note that the night tour doesn’t allow you to go to the top of the ruins — that’s only possible during the day.
Magali B — Google review
An incredible archaeological site in the heart of Miraflores! 🏛️ The 2,000-year-old adobe pyramid showcases the remarkable craftsmanship of ancient builders. The 40-minute guided tour (S/15, available in English or Spanish) is informative and engaging. Note: the night tour doesn’t include access to the top, but we took it and still loved the experience. A must-visit for history lovers in Lima!
Manjeet D — Google review
I recommend going here for the last tour at 4 pm before the first closing time. You'll see the place come alive from the warm light and shadows by the sun being relatively low in the sky. Just don't miss the tour - you cannot roam around alone. The tour is included in the very reasonable ticket price of 15 soles. Also mind the instructions and do not step on the adobe tiles.
Ville K — Google review
Fascinating study of the dedication of the ancients in building structures covering great areas with handmade vertical bricks. On some you can even see their hand and finger prints! Our guide shared a wide scope of knowledge from all of those who lived here, their customs, foods they planted and consumed, burial rites, beliefs, skills... He was a great guide to his heritage and this enormous site in the middle of the city. (Unfortunately, there is a listing for a "minizoo" here. While seeing the 7 famous llamas, alpacas and dozens+ guinea pigs was an interesting part of the tour...that does Not qualify the Very minimum pen and feeding bin as a "zoo." There is a genuine one elsewhere. The handful of indigenousanimals here are just to enlighten visitors as to the animals the original denizens had for food, like the well-planted garden.) This is a healthy, enlightening educational walk through an amazing ancient world. (PS- Please bring some currency to show your appreciation to your fascinating guide!!)
The V — Google review
I want to say I loved it, listen - it's historical and the guide was good. Spoke very good English and the Llamas / Guinea pigs at the end are cute. It's interesting, and they're still excavating. The tour takes little under an hour.. tips for the guide are nice! They do a good job. You walk up some steepish parts, and it's sandy - so don't wear slides. ;) Worth a visit... And the restaurant overlooking the ruins is fab! But gets busy. There are other restaurants just outside too. (Not overlooking the ruins) If you're in Lima and like history.. go. I was just a little bit bored at times. 🙊

Coming to this restaurant is very special … not only do u get a sense of history you get authentic peruvain taste and super culinary experience. Huaca Pucllana: 4000-year-old pyramid, check. Boring guide who puts you to sleep, check. If you're gonna make me walk on ancient genius pyramid, at least make the tour entertaining. Suggestion: skip the guide and hit up the Larco Museum first. Learn more over there Trust me, you'll be way more impressed when you finally get to the real education. And honestly, just read the Wikipedia page, you'll learn more. Need tour guide and takes about one hour.

Lima Cathedral, also known as the Basilica Cathedral of Lima, is a grand Roman Catholic cathedral located in the Historic Centre of Lima. Founded by Francisco Pizarro in 1535 and completed in 1538, it is dedicated to the Virgin of the Assumption. The cathedral's exterior showcases Renaissance and neoclassical styles, while its interior boasts a stunning mix of Renaissance, neoclassical, and baroque decorations.
The Cathedral of Lima is a beautiful and historic place to visit, located right in the heart of the Plaza Mayor. We had the chance to explore it with a local tour guide, which made the experience even more meaningful. We learned so much about Peruvian history, colonial architecture, and the cultural significance of the cathedral itself. The interior is stunning — with ornate altars, religious art, and impressive woodwork. It’s a peaceful and educational stop that’s worth including in any Lima itinerary. Highly recommend taking a guided tour to fully appreciate everything the site has to offer!

A must stop when in Lima. It is 30 Sol for foreigners. Beautiful architecture, chapels, catacombs and Fransisco Pizarro's resting place - the founder of Lima. There are some great stories of him told through the mosaics and interpretive signs. Lots of places to explore including the library and catacombs.

Very impressive. Very open, you are allowed to look under (burial site) and behind the scènes (relics, private collection of jewelry, clothes and paintings). Upstairs you van visit the balcony and also the old private library. There is a toilet inside also, but we didnt need to use it.

A stunning cathedral full of history and beauty! The Basílica Catedral de Lima is an impressive and beautiful place to visit. The architecture is amazing, with incredible details both inside and outside. You can really feel the history of Peru and its colonial past here. It’s a perfect spot to take photos and learn about Lima’s culture. Truly one of Lima’s most beautiful landmarks !

After 40+ countries, we've seen a lot of churches, but this one was unique. Beautiful, somber, and a weeeee bit creepy all at the same time. We've visited many churches with crypts, but not like this. A few had a couple with the mother holding a baby. Skeletons laying out where they're within reach. I crawled through one area with my shoulders hitting both sides. The museum portion was very nice. The woodworking is amazing!

The Cathedral of Lima is located at the Historic Centre of Lima. It was built in the year 1535, has been damaged by earthquakes, and rebuilt several times over the centuries, the last one was in 1940. It's one of the most important places to visit in Lima. Every part of the Cathedral is very beautiful. It has a museum which displays paintings, sculptures and ornaments. It also has the tomb of Francisco Pizarro, the founder of Lima.

Larcomar is a chic and upscale outdoor mall situated on the cliffs of Miraflores, offering stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. The architecture includes multiple terraces, providing panoramic ocean vistas from various points within the shopping center. It features an array of dining options, pubs, nightclubs, gift shops, boutiques, and a food court. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a cinema complex and a bowling facility.
This was a nice place to come and kill some time. You could do plenty of shopping there I had no need to shop. The views are amazing and there are several restaurants and bars where you can quench shit thirst. I felt very safe in this environment lots of security walking the premises. If you’re there in the evening, you can catch some very beautiful sunsets. I took a walk all the way down to the beach and walked on the pier everybody seem to be enjoying their Monday evening.

It's a shopping mall located right on the beach. The atmosphere is quiet and there's a cool sea breeze blowing all the time. Inside, there are many restaurants and shops. You can see the Pacific Ocean. I went in winter, the sea was rough, and the sky was always gray.

Shop of Shame!! If you're a shopper snob and looking for high-end brands or even mid-range quality, look elsewhere. This store is a treasure trove of low-end, barely recognizable American brands that you'd probably overlook in the States. It's like they've got a magnet for the most obscure imports. Locals seem to be few and far between, but the shopkeepers are enthusiastic about peddling Alpaca clothes to anyone who'll listen. Buyer beware!

The Museo de Arte de Lima is housed in the grand neoclassical Palacio de la Exposicion, originally built in 1871. The museum's collection spans from pre-Columbian artifacts to colonial-era art and republican-era paintings, offering a comprehensive view of Peru's artistic heritage. Notable exhibits include a collection of quipus, or 'talking knots,' used by the Incas as a form of communication.
This museum surprised me. It’s small but has very interesting exhibits. Since it’s not that big you can fully immerse in all of the rooms in 2-3 hours. It’s just not that popular among locals and not crowded at all.

Colonial style building housing Peruvian art through the ages. There are special exhibitions on the ground floor, as well as a cafe and gift shop. The main galleries are on the second floor. Entrance fee was a bit pricey at 40PEN per person. The surrounding gardens are also nice to stroll through.

I enjoyed this museum for a variety of reasons. It was clean, quiet, and very organized. There were some extraordinary pieces of craftsmanship that I'd never seen before. It'll take you a couple of hours to go through if you're slow like me. 😁 The surrounding park is nice too.

Love's Park, also known as Parque del Amor, is a popular destination in Miraflores, offering stunning views of the ocean. The park features a large kissing sculpture called 'The Kiss' by Victor Delfin and mosaic walls adorned with colorful benches inscribed with love-themed phrases by Peruvian authors. It's a romantic spot to watch the sunset and enjoy the company of your loved one. The park has become an iconic symbol for couples seeking an ideal setting by the sea.
El Parque de Amor, Lovers Park was a nice stroll overseeing the ocean and enjoy the crazy paragliders jumping off the hill to near death potential over the highway below and ocean. The favorite and iconic piece is the sculpture of the two lovers by Victor Delfín named El Beso...the Kiss was inaugurated on Valentines Day 1993. Take pictures, walk around, enjoy the ocean breeze, buy a lock from a salesperson, write the date, your lover and your initials, you get three keys one for them, one for you, and one key to make a wish and through the key over the cliff! Fun...fun...fun...

Lima Main Square, also known as Plaza de Armas or Plaza Mayor, is a historic and iconic public space located in the heart of Lima's historic center. It holds great significance as the birthplace of Lima and played a pivotal role in Peru's history, being the site where Jose de San Martin proclaimed independence for the country.
Lima Main Square is a stunning blend of colonial architecture, vibrant energy, and rich history. The colorful buildings, the Cathedral, and the Government Palace make it picture-perfect from every angle. The square feels safe, well-maintained, and lively with street performers and locals relaxing. It’s a great place to walk around, take photos, or just sit and soak in the atmosphere. A must-visit if you’re in Lima!

Nice square with colonial style and architecture, typical for similar plazas actor South America. There are some important buildings around to see. In principal, this is the most worth seeing site of the old part of the city, which otherwise doen not have much to offer.
Konstantinos K — Google review
Beautiful central area with lots of interesting sites in a walkable area including Convent of Santo Domingo, the Catacombs, many shops and restaurants. Great just to walk down the streets, grab an ice cream or a cocktail or check out the many vendors offering everything from alpaca clothing to T-shirts. All around the area are little rounded statuettes of women. I found one covered, instead of colorful paints, with reflective surface. One large stone commemorates the original Inca governing people of the area. Beautiful buildings with a variety of architectures. And the gorgeous tall water fountain in the very center of the square.

I recently traveled from Cusco to Lima, Peru, and was met with widespread protests. The police presence was heavy, with officers carrying full sets of weapons. The streets were blocked with trash and feces, making it difficult to navigate. To stay safe, we kept our distance and observed from afar. Areas like Miraflores and Barranco felt more secure than the city center.
SPICY — Google review
We spent a leisurely day exploring the heart of Lima and made our way to the city’s beautiful main square—Plaza Mayor, also known as Plaza de Armas. This historic square is the birthplace of Lima, founded by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro in 1535, and has remained the political and cultural center of the city ever since. Surrounding the square are several of Lima’s most important colonial-era buildings, including the Government Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace, the Municipal Palace, and the Lima Cathedral. The blend of Spanish colonial architecture and vibrant local activity gives the square a timeless charm. While we were there, we were fortunate to witness a Catholic procession passing through the square—an experience that brought the city’s deep-rooted religious traditions to life. The area is perfect for capturing great photos, soaking in the local atmosphere, and appreciating Lima’s rich history and living culture.

The Basilica and Convent of Santo Domingo in Lima is a historic 16th-century church with a rich heritage. The church, built in 1540, holds the relics of three saints and features beautiful architecture, courtyards, and gardens. Adjacent to the church is the Santo Domingo Convent Museum, which showcases stunning architecture and houses monks within its walls.
The convent is incredibly beautiful and has a rich history. It's definitely worth a visit to learn more about the colonial past of Lima.

Beautiful and historic, the Convent is rich in appointments, articles, paintings, and sculptures. Well worth an hour or so visit. And glance at one of the oldest libraries in the world. The gardens are beautifully kept and inspiring. One room was all about Mary and Jesus as a child. Another room had a very short doorway, so my daughter went in and took some pics. Must have been a crypt since one of the pictures she took was a window into a circle of bones. One large mural of an angel was a popular spot to take pictures. Maybe to see how you might look like with wings. Of course we had to do it also.

You could spend hours inside exploring the intricate architecture and artistry. The staff are incredible and the love they have for the property and grounds really shows. The National Museum of the Archaeology, Anthropology, and History of Peru in Lima is a treasure trove of Peruvian history and culture. Founded in 1938 by Julio C. Tello, it boasts an extensive collection of over 100 thousand artifacts from various Peruvian cultures, including ceramics, textiles, stone, organic and metallic objects. The museum provides a comprehensive journey through Peru's archaeological and historical evolution with exhibits from pre-Hispanic times to the colonial and republican periods.
My wife and I were happy that we decided to visit this museum this week. A few sections are not accessible, but due to the recent APEC summit, they have decided to go all in and they are currently exhibiting a few pieces they never exhibited before. There are pieces not even Peruvians have seen yet so, quality over quantity is the key. Last chance to see them too, as the museum will fully close for renovations at the end of February, and will not reopen until 2027-28. A real Tumi, several gold and silver pieces and the best preserved textiles we've had the chance to see, are only a few of the elements that make this a worthy visit. Additionally, this museum has the real Estele Raimondi, one of the most important peruvian monoliths that still exists. To finish, you will also get to see a well preserved colonial mansion, with original floors and a beautiful garden. Last notes: 1. There are two entrances to the museum. Start your visit through the second one, that leads to the "Casona". This is the one that has most of the things that can be seen at the moment. Once you finish there, you can go to the main one (way less things to see atm), but mandatory if you want to see the Estele Raimondi. 2. Most of the texts are not translated in English, but it is what you could expect when visiting a non-English speaking country. It is part of the experience when visiting a foreign country. 3. There are a few breweries near the museum you can visit after, especially the traditional Queirolo Tabern, which has traditional food and drinks.

What a wonderful day to visit! Today was a free entry day and the workers of the museum were so kind and helpful to guide us around the museum and ensure we saw all that we could. Even with some closures currently there was SO much history to learn about and beautiful artifacts to see. I would love to return again when the entire museum is open!

A lot of the museum is under renovation- but it was still worth the trip. We learned so much about Peru and how it won its independence. The staff was very friendly but not many English speakers and the Spanish I practiced for did not help here. But still, not big issues. Beautiful building as well.
Karl W — Google review
A lot of the museum was under renovation but it is still worth visiting. Free entry. First section was around the campaign for Peruvian independence while second section had Incan and Pre-Incan artefacts.
A T — Google review
The museum is definitely still being remodeled and lots of areas are not available. It was free for English speakers because very little signage in English. No English audio guide was available. There are some QR codes and English translations in the second building. Some interesting exhibits to see but challenging without translation or audio guide. Go if you are good with just walking around and looking at exhibits or feel like translating lots on your phone.

The Site Museum and Archaeological Sanctuary of Pachacamac is a significant historical site located just 35 kilometers southeast of Lima. It features remains of pre-Incan pyramids, temples, and buildings dating back to 200 AD to 700 AD, with some structures built during Inca occupation in the 15th century. The modern museum on-site showcases artifacts and archaeological discoveries from the sanctuary, including ceramic offerings from the Wari period.
This place is incredible! We arrived just a couple of hours before closing time, but we still managed to see what we wanted to see, even with a stroller. It’s an impressive ancient archaeological site in Lima, and the hike to the ruins is a great way to experience it. If you’re in Peru, this is definitely worth a visit.
Liam S — Google review
Pachachamac has a history dating back to 200 BC and it has influences from Lima, Wari, Ychma and Incas culture. It used to be a pilgrimage centre and Pachacamac was a feared god with power to cause earthquakes. The current site has a museum and the excavations from the structures built centuries ago - Sun Temple, Pachacamac, Acllawasi. During Inca rule (the last kingdom before Spanish Colonialisation), many people user to visit this site as a pilgrimage and many pyramids were built here. Sun Temple is supposed to have quite an ideal location based on planets and it faces the sea. There was a school built for girls called Acllawasi where they were taught day to day routine work. The excavation work is still in progress here. Entry ticket is 15 Soles for regular route and 20 Soles for special route. It was great knowing about this much ancient history. If you are a history buff, then this site is a must visit in your Lima it itinerary. Guided tours are available in both Spanish and English and cost 50 Soles.
VIPUL T — Google review
I was blown away by the scale and significance of Pachacamac. The archaeological sanctuary is expansive, with sweeping desert landscapes, coastal views, and remarkably well-preserved structures that speak to centuries of continuous occupation and worship. Walking among the ruins—especially the Temple of the Sun and the Painted Temple—you really feel the spiritual and historical weight of the site. The on-site museum is excellent: modern, informative, and well-curated, with artefacts that add depth and context to what you see outside. Exhibits are displayed beautifully, and the signage (in both Spanish and English) helps paint a vivid picture of the cultures that once thrived here. Highly recommended for anyone interested in Peru’s pre-Hispanic history. Come early, wear a hat, and give yourself time to explore—it’s absolutely worth it.

This sanctuary and museum is located around 1 hour from miraflores . I was impressed by the museum that although it is smaller you will enjoy learning about the culture then it has a restaurant clean restrooms and the huacas you can go by car or walk it will take 1 h or less depending on your own time and the general price is 15 soles less than 6 dollars
Gabriela M — Google review
We had an amazing time learning about the religious significance of Pachacamac throughout the centuries. The museum was a definite highlight; well laid out, informative, and with interpretive signs in both English and Spanish, which made the experience accessible and engaging. Walking through the archaeological sanctuary was enjoyable, though it wasn’t quite as visually spectacular as some other sites in Peru. Still, the overall experience was enriching and well worth the visit for those interested in pre-Columbian history and ancient Andean spirituality.

The museum is modern, clean and very well curated, offering a clear explanation of the history of Pachacamac and the different cultures that lived here — from the Lima and Wari to the Inca civilization. The ruins are vast and impressive, with temples, plazas and stunning views of the valley and the Pacific Ocean. Entry costs S/15 per person, and you can explore the site either by walking or by car. Highly recommended to go with a guide to understand the cultural and spiritual importance of the place.

Super cool to see the history here and learn about the different cultures that developed it over the millennia. I definitely suggest taking the orange route - walking through the streets and getting the tour guide as well. Totally worth it! Cabify was like 59 soles for each way from Miraflores Lima (about an hour with traffic each way tho). There wasn’t anyone there when we went.

Iglesia Las Nazarenas, or the Church of the Nazarene, is a remarkable historical site nestled in Lima, Peru. Established in 1771 under Viceroy Amat's guidance, this church stands on land once inhabited by freed Angolan slaves. A captivating mural of Christ painted by one of these former slaves remains a focal point within its walls, having survived a devastating earthquake in 1655.
This si a very busy church! You will see plenty of street vendors outside and both locals and tourists visitors within the church ground. It has very beautiful architecture both inside and outside of the church. It's walking distance from the main square of Lima and by a busy busy main road. There is no wait nor ticket, the church is free for access to all (and rightfully so, why would you want to pay to visit God?)

Historical church were the Señor de lo Milagros rests. Every year in October, the devotees take the image on a procession around Lima. Thousands of followers sing and pray in their path. Burning the Palo santo incense. The church is a beautiful gem inside. It is a must visit place, and after the visit, you should visit the shops of Turron de Doña Pepa and King Kong deserts. They are delicious.

Beautiful church on Tacna Avenue, downtown Lima. Every year, during October, the Lord of Miracles goes in procession around the city. Catholic or not, as a cultural event, it's a must see.

Every year in October teams of 36 members of the Hermandad del Señor de Los Milagros de Nazarenas (Brotherhood of the Lord of Miracles) carry the Image of the Lord of Miracles through the streets of Lima in what has become a world-famous procession of the faithful. This is the church that houses the Image and where the procession originates each year. Our visit was pleasant and spiritual. The creche was spectacular!

In this church there is a representative painting of the crucifixion of Jesus called "Señor de los Milagros". She is adored and venerated by her believers who during the month of October come to show their devotion in the greatest Christian procession in the world.

The Catholic Church and Sanctuary of Nazarenas is one of Lima's oldest churches, dating back to the mid-17th century. Its story began in 1651 when a humble man of color painted an image of Jesus crucified. Remarkably, that image has endured for 374 years and now resides on the main altar of the church. The church has been the point for the world’s largest Lord of the Miracles procession, held every October since 1776, drawing thousands of followers from Peru and around the world. Incredible must-do in Lima. The main square of Callao became an amazing tourist place with good restaurant options and a lot of street art. The Callao monumental is a building with a lot of expositions and an amazing terrace with increíble views of the coast and the port. If you go on the weekend you can catch live shows. Safety tip: Take an Uber and explain to them to reach the place via the port which is way safer than other routes. Be careful of your surroundings and try to go with a group.

Fascinating and worth checking out if you're in Lima for more than a few days. It can come off as sketchy to some tourists so be sure to visit during the day. Those who are interested in art should consider booking a tour; there's a lot to see and the story is super interesting. We visited independently and took an uber over and wandered around snapping photos. I recommend visiting on the weekend for a more festive atmosphere, otherwise it may be very empty. Loads of good photo ops.

CALLAO MONUMENTAL– URBAN ART PROJECT IN LIMA We'd heard a lot about the art project in Callao, Peru showcasing some of the best street art, contemporary galleries and artists throughout Lima. So of course we had to check it out and learn about the area, and experience first hand the epic impact its had on the community! While purposely getting lost in the amazing artistic streets of Callao, Peru we stopped for some delicious pasteries at a local favorite hotspot and enjoyed the colorful hanging streamers in the corridor walkway. At a cafe we met an incredible local Albert from a near by Cuban art gallery that volunteered to show us around for the afternoon and we were eager to JUMP at the chance! You could feel the pride he had for his community as he showed off DOZENS & DOZENS of murals from small hidden away ones to some 5 stories tall! INCREDIBLE DOESNT BEGIN TO DESCRIBE OUR DAY!

When visiting Lima, it's important to plan your day trips carefully. For a relaxing experience, consider strolling along the Malecón de Miraflores, a stunning boardwalk that spans several neighborhoods and offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. You can start at Malecon Saenz Pena in Barranco, visit the Dedalo art gallery, and then leisurely walk towards Larcomar, a modern shopping center with various shops and dining options.
A beautiful walk with perfectly landscaped surroundings and stunning ocean views. An old lighthouse, monuments, artwork, a pagoda on a cliff. Great exercise with an ocean breeze! Not to be missed.

The Malecón in Miraflores is one of the most beautiful spots to experience in Lima, especially in the morning. Walking along the cliffs with the Pacific Ocean stretching endlessly in front of you is truly breathtaking. The fresh morning breeze, the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks, and the calm atmosphere make it a perfect place to start the day. The parks along the Malecón are well-maintained with colorful flowers, palm trees, and jogging or cycling tracks where you can see locals staying active. In the early hours, it feels peaceful and less crowded, giving you uninterrupted views of the ocean and the sunrise glow reflecting over the water. The scenic beauty, combined with the clean pathways and green spaces, makes the Malecón a must-visit not just for tourists but also for anyone who loves nature and tranquility.

The Bridge of Sighs, also known as Puente de los Suspiros, is an iconic wooden bridge in Barranco. It offers stunning views of the city and is a popular spot for people-watching. According to local folklore, crossing the bridge while holding your breath and making a wish may make it come true. Built in 1876, the bridge has endured significant damage during historical events but has been rebuilt multiple times.
This is a beautiful tourist attraction in Barranco, Lima, Peru. Don't believe the legend that if you hold the hand of the one you love and cross the bridge while holding your breath, if you make it to the other side you will be together forever... total and utter lie 🤣🤣 Other than that there is a beautiful spot, art, food, and more to see and or eat. It also leads down to the beach.

At the Bridge of Sighs, we lucked out-the garúa had faded, leaving us with clear blue skies and a warm breeze. According to legend, if you hold your breath while walking across the bridge, your wish will be granted; and if you cross it with your lover, you are said to be blessed with eternal love. The surrounding area is delightful, with a cute park, vibrant murals, and intriguing street art that make it a perfect spot to wander and explore. Lovely area to walk around and explore or take your pup out to enjoy.

This bridge itself is pretty standard - about 40 feet long with no major views to speak of. But that's not what makes it special. The real treasure is the shops surrounding it, filled with unique art designs, cool jackets, t-shirts, and bags. It's evolved beyond just a marketplace - it's now a hub for creative expression. While the restaurants nearby are okay, they're not the main draw. The real highlight is the eclectic mix of art and shopping that makes this area worth exploring.

Nestled in Lima, the Museo Oro del Perú y Armas del Mundo is a treasure trove for history enthusiasts and culture seekers alike. This museum offers an impressive glimpse into ancient civilizations through its extensive collection of pre-Hispanic gold artifacts, showcasing intricate jewelry like earrings and bracelets that reflect the craftsmanship of bygone cultures. Visitors can marvel at how these exquisite pieces were not just adornments but also symbols of social status and ritual significance.
Actually pretty amazing. The arms of the world display was amazing, almost overwhelming. I would not be surprised if the largest in the world in one place. The assorted gold and antique items (some over 1,000 years old) were arranged quite well. Although I was expecting more, it was an extremely sad realization that thousands of TONS of gold items were plundered by the Spanish - and forever lost to the world.

Lima has a lot of museums and based on your interests, you can visit them. I decided to visit this Gold Museum which has a special exhibit of Golden artifacts. The entry ticket to this museum is 40 soles. They also have a Mummy exhibit which was quite fascinating. Apart from that there are arms exhibits. One hour is enough to visit this museum. You can hire a guide as well. I found the prices a bit higher though.
VIPUL T — Google review
Fun-sized collection. In the arms side, there are guns, rifles, swords and uniforms from many different places. Even a sword that belonged to Sultan Mustafa II of Ottoman Empire. On the gold side, the most interesting to me were the mummies and other burial related items. Lots of gold but not much extraordinary except a couple of primary pieces.
C G — Google review
Beautiful collection, although a little repetitive. The museum is split in two levels: the bottom has all the gold collection as well as ancient tools of (pre)Inca culture. The upstairs section contains a huge collection of weapons, samurai armour and swords, and more. If you are into weapons, you will love the upstairs bit. The gold collection was impressive.
Roos K — Google review
A global traveler’s immersion into Peru’s Golden Treasures. It’s a great museum, thanks to foresight and generosity of Sñr Miguel Mujica Gallo whose personal collection has become a national treasure 🇵🇪🇵🇪🇵🇪that now educates the world of ancient Peruvian cultures. The collection is very well curated, with annotations of the periods and tribal identities 👏👏👏. The golden artifacts illustrates why there was so much greed of the Imperial Conquistadors that drove them to enslave indigenous peoples of the Old World. So varied golden treasures😎😎😎😎😎, from personal adornments to practical home utensils like cups and goblets to deities to tribal symbols including crowns and headgears. In addition to the gold, the museum also carries pottery. Like the gold, each of the pottery is a tribal pride and of daily importance to peoples’ lives. The other half of the museum is a curation of military arms/armaments and uniforms. Perhaps the most interesting are the medieval armory and the collection of daggers and swords. Some of armory are pieces art themselves, the most eye catching are the collection of Japanese Samurai. THIS NATIONAL TREASURE NEEDS MORE PUBLICITY. We only saw this by chance looking for things to do in Lima on Google.

Entry fee is not bad for what you are paying to see. Incredible collection of historical artifacts, weaponry, armour, and uniforms. I was blown away by the amount of guns in this museum, and was equally impressed by the displays of European and Asian armour/melee weaponry. If you're not here for the weapons, that's fine because the displays of historical artifacts is fantastic. I'm not very interested in these kinds of artifacts and yet even I could see that the displayed items were very fascinating. I will say that this museum takes a long time to see everything. If you want to be able to look at all the displays in detail, expect to spend a few hours.
Ben R — Google review
Its a really nice museum, have a really interesting collection. The collection is so big that looks like they need extra spaces to show all .

There is a small admission fee to enter the museum. The Museo Oro de Peru y Armas del Mundo houses a vast collection of artifacts from various countries, many of which were generously donated. Visitors have the option of exploring the museum on their own or taking a guided tour. While a limited number of artifacts have been sent to Brazil, please note that some of the items on display may be replicas or photographs. Nevertheless, there is an abundance of fascinating exhibits to admire, making a visit to the museum a worthwhile experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and hope you will too.

We been there in Saturday right in the morning, it was very organized, very clean, a lot of places to buy food and souvenirs, it’s looks like the animals are getting good care, nice place to come and visit for people how like different zoos, the only reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 is that the toilet cubicles were without locks and lack of toilet paper 🧻.

A nice zoo to visit while in lima. Enclosures are well maintianed and plenty of animals to see. Majority of enclosures where impressive although a few bigger animals could do with better designed encloaures. Price is good and place gets busy fast. I highly recommend this zoo in Lima! The ticket prices are reasonable, and the cages, tanks, and enclosures are well maintained. What amazed me the most is that there’s an Inca archaeological site inside the zoo—this was my first time visiting a zoo like this, and it was awesome!

Loved every second in the Zoo. It was amazing, great area with so many animals. They have so much free space to roam around. Very clean and animals are well looked after. We only had 2.5 hours which was not enough. It was also very nice that they had the ruins as part of the area. The ticket gets you also entry to the botanic gardens. In comparison, I saw the Zoo in São Paulo a few weeks later, the Lima is a million times better. More animals for visitors to see and better facilities. Loved, loved, loved Limas Park of the Legends Zoo.

Go for the architecture and the layout of the gardens, both of which are stunning. The art is an interminable display of yet more Christian allegory, heavy on the “constipated figurative” school, none of which is especially interesting if you’ve been to a single church at any point in your life.

Nestled in the heart of Lima, the Place of Memory, Tolerance and Social Inclusion (LUM) serves as a poignant exhibition space dedicated to exploring Peru's tumultuous history from 1980 to 2000. This era was marked by violent confrontations between the government and terrorist factions like the Shining Path and Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement.
The museum explains the violence that occurred between the Shining Path libration army (Maoist socialist group that gain power in the countryside) and the military. There were many victims and you get to hear their stories. Unfortunately the English explanation was non existent. The QR codes were suppose to take you to a Google drive page with English audio but I didn’t find it there on occasion. Also, the building is built on the cliffs and being surrounded by the cliffs did not make it easy to receive any signal… what I did realized was that there were a lot about the Shining paths atrocities but there wasn’t much regarding what the military did to the citizens caught in between. I’m just a casual visitor but I could tell it just from following up on wiki that there’s more to the story. Exhibition aside, it’s an excellent contemporary architecture that is built into the cliff side. The entrance of the building makes you descend into the depths between the building and the cliffs methodically creating the feeling of being stuck between a rock and a hard place which is what many of the victims felt. The entire museum is connected via ramps (close to being wheelchair accessible) and light penetrations from both sides (from the windows) as well as from top to bottom (from the circular sky lites and glass gaps between the slab). The roof is an open space with amazing views of the Pacific. Highly recommend it for people who enjoy history and contemporary architecture.

Natalie V — Google review
This place wasn't on my itinerary, but I am so glad that I went. The place does a great job of explaining the years of terrorism and violence in Peru. I had read a lot about those difficult years before and how Peru struggled with extreme violence and instability. These exhibitions may be too graphic for some people, but I don't think it's good to hide the truth, especially when there are so many different narratives about these events. There's a section where they display the testimony of either actual victims of terrorism or close relatives of people who died during these years. I was holding back my tears. Some people say the exhibition is biased in favor of the Peruvian government, but I didn't think that way because there are several mentions of how the Peruvian government also participated in the violence. It is sad that the most affected were the working class and rural people. This was a tragedy. The museum is located in a very good area, but I recommend to use a car or Uber/Cabify to get there. Entrance is free of charge and you just have to complete a simple form with your info. The only thing I would change is that we need English translations because I think the world needs to know about this and stop pretending terrorists are social leaders. ¡TERRORISMO NUNCA MÁS!
Eduardo R — Google review
This is an interesting, informative and well presented museum dedicated to the tumultuous and traumatic period in Peruvian history between 1980 and 2000. Entrance to the museum is free of charge and one has to sign in with security at the entrance and record an official ID number- I used the number of my German passport. The security/museum staff were all courteous and professional. The restroom within the museum was clean and well maintained. The museum is well organized and exhibits are presented on several different levels of the museum structure. Within the confines of the museum is a library with books and other materials pertaining to this chapter in Peruvian history. The narratives of the exhibits are exclusively in Spanish. Despite my minimal understanding of Spanish I still found the museum profound and as someone who enjoys contemporary history definitely worth a visit.

This museum has a great architectural profile with a rich history of the violence uprising in the country. The way you move through the museum is interesting, as you get rewarded with amazing views of the pacific coast after the exhibition(s)

Great museum. Learned a lot about the lost decade of the 80s and the terrorism of the SL. Very well curated with testimonies of victims and those who lost friends and family. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Lima

LUM is one of those places that stays with you long after you leave. The building itself is striking. If you’re into understanding the story of violence, the Shining Path, the conflict years (1980-2000) and the politics, this is a must visit. Inside, everything is in Spanish, but Google Translate come to rescue! It gives voices of those who lived through the internal conflicts. It’s moving and I thought they did a good job in being honest.

Insightful and well laid out museum. However no explanation or audio guide other than Spanish. Phone reception is patchy so we only managed half the exhibition (front half of each floor) on google translate. I hope the government give them the funding to provide multi language information in future on this important topic (or just start charging tourists - we would have been happy to pay). I understand English tours can be booked 2 weeks in advance.

Palacio de Torre Tagle is a striking Spanish baroque palace in Lima, Peru, housing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Its distinctive pink facade and ornate features make it a standout landmark. The colonial building boasts Moorish-style balconies carved from dark wood, adding to its unique charm. The ornamental door and stone-carved frame showcase its historical significance.
This building is a gem of Lima's balcony tradition. If you come to the historic district, be aware that the balconies on the facades are a symbol of the city's architecture. So you can better appreciate the city's Spanish-period architecture.

Fascinating building in Lima acknowledged for its style, grace and richness. It was built in 1735 by the Marquis of Torre Tagle. This exquisite building is considered to be the best surviving colonial house in Lima with the superbly carved intricate balconies, elaborate doors and a courtyard surrounded by rooms and ironwork.
CK C — Google review
Beautiful colonial building with amazingly well restored balconies. Unfortunately, it was closed to the public when I was there.
Marc R — Google review
Update June 2024: The palace is now open to the public Saturday and Sunday from 400pm to 700pm... they have free guided tours. You must first register at the office next door and show your identification. As always, check for updates before going. ------ I came here in late June 2023 and the security guard said it is closed to visitors, since the protests in Peru that happened earlier this year. There is no date set for reopening, so don't make a special trip here

Was not open for public but the exterior was so pretty. Especially the wood work for the balcony was boss.

Customer service is exceptional and the staff are very responsive. I wanted to give a full 5 stars; however, they didn’t provide essential safety equipment such as a helmet or life vest, which I feel is really important. I asked about it before starting the flight, but the conversation was diverted. I was a bit scared because I didn’t feel fully geared, even though everything turned out fine. Safety should always be a top priority, and proper gear helps customers feel secure. I did receive the video, and I’m still grateful for their service.

10/10 experience! They were very quick to respond to my questions via WhatsApp (even at 8pm on a Sunday!) Very thorough with the information that you're given before the flight, as well as videos on how it is when you'rein the air and how to find the area. It's in a further part of the coastline, but they offer free rides from a central place in Miraflores! This was a gift for my stepdad and my brother, they both had a great time.

The Catacombs of the Convento de San Francisco are a must-see for anyone interested in history. The labyrinthine tunnels date back to the 16th century and contain some of the most surprising and fascinating art collections in all of Spain. The Catacombs of San Francisco convent are a maze-like series of tunnels that date back to the 16th century. It is one of the most interesting museums in all Spain because it contains some very unique art collections.
Cheap to enter, tour is included (runs about an hour long). Spanish language tours run more frequently. I waited 25 minutes for the English tour which went by quickly and you could always walk down a block to get the famous Churros de San Francisco while you wait for the tour to start. Incredibly informative, excellent English speaking guide. Money and time well spent. No photos allowed once inside.
Naceam A — Google review
This was a really interesting place to learn more about and admire the surroundings. The problem is that it is so busy that all the tours rush you through and give little time to admire the paintings, history, architecture and catacombs. The interpretive signs are in both Spanish and English but we were rushed through so quickly that we did not have time to read them. The mandatory tour guide was a knowledgeable fellow.
Geoffrey B — Google review
We did enjoy the tour, sometimes the guide who you must go round with speaks a little fast which means you loose facts but the building is extremely beautiful. Just note that you are not allowed to take photos anywhere which is a shame because this would promote people to visit not the other way around.
Alex C — Google review
Museum for the Franciscan Monk monastery, the cathedral, and for the underground catacombs. Beautiful place, with original murals, paintings, carvings, architecture, and human remains (in the case of the catacombs). Catacombs are creepy but all very interesting. Visits are by tour only. English and Spanish speaking tours start every 20 minutes or so. No pictures or video are allowed inside.
Johan B — Google review
Overall, not that interesting. If you've been to catacombs in Paris, Palermo or Naples this will feel underwhelming. They force you to follow an English-speaking guide who was completely unintelligible and might as well have been speaking Quechua. The entire complex is in dire need of a cleaning. I'd happily pay 4x the entry fee to be able to explore on my own, read the signs, and yes, take pictures. Seems like a missed opportunity for the city.
Nathan J — Google review
It is not allowed to touch or take a photos but I had a chance to do it 😂 take a short guided tour better . Nice place worth to visit

An unexpectedly beautiful place. I've visited many churches and cathedrals in Europe, so I was not expecting something new, but this place surprised me. We were not allowed to take pictures but it had nice art and intricate designs. Definitely worth a visit! You will pay for a guide as part of the entrance fee.

Fantastic place to visit in Lima. The guided tour was great although we did have to wait over an hour for an English tour. The building is beautiful, including the main church, the library and many other rooms. The catacombs are fascinating and the guide was brilliant at proving enough history and facts to ensure an educated and respectful visit. It was a shame we were not allowed to take pictures to remember the visit. A well worth visit!

Peruvian restaurant
Fine dining restaurant
Research foundation
Central, located in Miraflores Lima, is a renowned restaurant owned by chef Virgilio Martinez. It stands out for its unique approach to haute cuisine, focusing on Peruvian biodiversity and using ingredients from different altitudes and regions of the country. The restaurant has been consistently ranked among the top 50 restaurants globally and was awarded first place in 2023 for its innovative culinary concepts. Central also prioritizes sustainability and conscious use of natural resources.
Let's start out by saying this was a dining experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. The food was interesting, and sometimes over the top, but I understood what they were trying to do. Central is experimenting with ingredients, and they're trying to use every piece of every food available. This is to be admired. I have to be frank. Some dishes were excellent and others were just weird, but the overall experience was memorable, especially the service. They have been ranked 'the best restaurant in the world' a few years ago, and some would think this 'allows' them to have an attitude. This is precisely the opposite of what I experienced. From the moment I walked through the entrance, I felt very welcome, even though I was a solo diner. From the tour of the garden to the presentation of my table, to the stories behind every course (including the local drinks/wines), every moment of my dining experience was fantastic. The team even allowed me to take some photos of the kitchen. I felt like a VIP, even though I am sure I was just an average guest. So the food. Some dishes were among the best I have ever had, while others just didn't work for me. But over 13 courses and maybe 30-35 individual dishes, this was to be expected. This is not a cheap experience, but if you can afford it, you will not regret dining here.
Keith M — Google review
Same as Maido, I left rather dissapointed food-wise. There was nothing wrong about it, but at the same time, there was nothing special about it. The experience on the other hand, was quite unique. Also a beautiful garden! One more issue I had was that the tip is not included, which I would honestly expect given the already very high price.
Michal J — Google review
What an experience! From the warm welcome to the goodbye, everything was absolutely top-notch. Due to a cancelled flight I missed my original booking and had to cancel last minute, but the staff at Central were incredibly helpful and managed to move my reservation to another day for lunch without any issues. The journey through Peru was amazing, and I tasted flavors I didn’t even know existed! The presentation & plating was one of the best I have ever seen and the wine & non-alcoholic pairing was amazing! All the staff were extremely warm and welcoming but Arianna made our lunch experience extra special! We will definitely be back. :)

The Best Dining Experience in the World Central is, without a doubt, the number one restaurant on the planet. The entire experience—from the storytelling behind each dish to the flawless execution—is unforgettable. Virgilio Martínez, the visionary chef and owner, is one of the most creative talents in the culinary world today. His ability to take you on a journey through Peru’s ecosystems, altitudes, and ingredients is nothing short of genius. Every course is a revelation. The tasting menu is a beautifully choreographed journey through Peru’s diverse landscapes—from the Amazon to the Andes to the Pacific. Dishes like “Extreme Altitude” and “Amazonian Water” are not only exquisite in flavor, but also rooted in deep cultural and ecological meaning. The presentation is stunning, and each plate tells a story. The service and coordination were absolutely perfect, making the entire experience seamless. The liquor pairing (maridaje) was outstanding—thoughtfully curated to elevate each dish. Dining at Central is not just a meal—it’s a profound, inspiring experience. Truly the best I’ve ever had. Make a reservation—you’ll remember it for the rest of your life
Jose S — Google review
This is a fabulous experience. They are so meticulous with every detail. It was wonderful to watch the bustle of the open kitchen, like a show. All the dinner ware and serving plates/dishes were so delicate and beautiful. And I love their theme of sourcing food from all altitudes in Peru. Most of the ingredients I have never heard of or tried before, so it was really intriguing. The service and atmosphere was definitely fit for a number one restaurant of the world. But I personally feel the food fell a little short. There’s prob a reason why every part of different animal and plants are not eaten, because it doesn’t taste great. But Central wanted to incorporate all parts into the meal. In the end it has the taste great and a few dishes did fall short. We also had a server who did not speak English very well and I couldn’t understand her explain the dish.
Jing Y — Google review
And finally Central. The flagship restaurant of legendary Peruvian Chef Virgilio Martínez. The restaurant is known for its contemporary interpretation of Peruvian cuisine using modern techniques. Each dish represents a specific Peruvian ecosystem, defined by altitude, ranging from below sea level to the high Andes. Central was crowned the world’s best restaurant for many years. The tasting menu typically features 12 courses. The dishes were “academic”; beautifully crafted but not always memorable in flavour cohesiveness. The experience is experimental with lot of effort in carving visually appealing dishes but the final outcome is confusing. One leaves without understanding what food did he have. The dining room is bright, minimalist, and open, with stone tables, floor-to-ceiling windows, and an open kitchen
Habib M — Google review
“Dining at Central is not just a meal, it’s a journey through Peru’s ecosystems. From the moment we entered, the experience felt like visiting a living museum: the garden and entrance are filled with plants, trees, and ingredients that later appear on the menu. We were welcomed with warm towels, seated at a beautiful table designed with privacy in mind, and immediately noticed how attentive the service was. Every course came with its own unique cutlery and a small theatrical demonstration – sometimes a book with QR codes explaining the plants, sometimes an entire octopus or stones representing the Andean landscape. Even small gestures, like discreetly wiping drops of water on the table or changing napkins when leaving the table or before desserts, showed remarkable attention to detail. The 12-course tasting menu was extraordinary. Each dish represents a different altitude of Peru, from the depths of the sea to the highest Andes. Highlights included the Warm Sea Current with lobster and razor clam, Rainforest Connection with Amazonian fish, and the spectacular desserts inspired by the Sacred Valley and 100% cacao. Every plate felt like a masterpiece, both in taste and presentation. Service, storytelling, and culinary creativity are perfectly intertwined at Central. It’s educational, emotional, and delicious at the same time – an unforgettable dining experience and truly deserving of being named the best restaurant in the world.”

This great palace is also situated in the main square - Plaza Mayor. It is the official residence of the President of Peru and the seat of government. The building is very Grande and impressive. The Palace is fantastic. The changing of the Guards takes place everyday at noon, be sure to get there 15 minutes before as it does get very crowded. The ceremony is pretty amazing to watch, first there is a band performance and then the guards change. You can also visit inside but will need to pre arrange in advance.
Aladar K — Google review
The Palace was built by Francisco Pizarro in 1536, after the foundation of Lima City by him in 1535. He became the governor of New Castile in 1529. The building served as the head office of Pizarro's administration. On Sunday 26 June 1541, thirteen supporters of Diego de Almagro with his son Diego de Almagro II, (whose father had been executed in 1538 In Cusco by Pizarro's brother Hernardo), stormed the building and assassinate Pizarro after a big fight with swords. On 1542, it became the viceroy's residence and seat of the government Casas Reales.  The most recent alterations to the building were completed in the 1930s, under the direction of President Oscar Benavides. The Changing of the Guards is a major tourist attraction at the Government Palace. It takes place at noon daily on the main esplanade looking onto the Plaza de Armas.

Casa de Aliaga is a historic mansion in Lima, Peru, dating back to 1535 and considered the oldest dwelling in the Americas. It has been continuously inhabited by the same noble family since its founding, showcasing a mix of architectural styles from the 16th to the 19th century. The house reflects the maximalist sensibilities of Peruvian aristocracy and features Baroque, Moorish revival, Art Nouveau, Neo-Baroque, and Beaux-Arts elements.
Casa Aliaga, located in Lima, Peru, is a fascinating glimpse into history as the oldest continuously inhabited residence in the Americas—and possibly all of South America. Founded in 1535, it has been home to 17 generations of descendants of the original owner, Captain Jerónimo de Aliaga. Since the family still lives there, tours are only available with a guide, but this adds to the exclusive and intimate feel of the experience. Lots of options... Many of the same things are sold at various stores within the market. Most things are reasonably priced . Some of them very wildly depending on the vendor. There are a lot of colors and beautiful garments . There are a lot of mementos and souvenirs that one can find. We had to mix chocolate with milk/water ourselves - and you do not really know how much you should put in hard to mix and you end up with some kind of stratified formation. Taste was okey(ish) but general impression was “meh”. Staff wasn’t really interested in visitors (exception was a guy working there - very friendly and engaged in his work). Seems like we were caught in some kind of tourist, generic trap.

A wonderful place for chocolate lovers! 🍫 They offer an incredible variety, from roasted and raw chocolates to those infused with coffee beans, chilli, and even alcohol. The staff were very friendly and generous, letting me sample many different kinds. You can pay by card or cash, and the place is clean and well maintained, including the restrooms. Definitely worth a visit!
Manjeet D — Google review
Place dedicated to cocoa and various products made from it. Lots of chocolate bars and other similar stuff is sold here. There are some items which can be consumed on site like hot chocolate (unfortunately only option is a mix with milk). Some cakes are available as well, taste is pretty decent. There are some sets offered, which are quite a good deal.
Bartosz B — Google review
So the difficulty is, the website advertises this as a museum and it is absolutely not a museum. It's a chocolate shop with one wall dedicated to a short history of chocolate. Also, it's not clear from the website that the workshops happen at the site in the market near Miraflores whereas this site is where the shop and info are. That said, the samples are very nice as are the staff. It's just a bit unclear as to what it actually is.
Rajin C — Google review
A fun selection of chocolate for sale. I would really wouldn't consider it a museum on chocolate, but you can see the process used to make a chocolate bar. There are quality chocolate items for sale.

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Lomas de Lucumo, located in the south of Lima, is a hidden gem offering a serene escape from the city. This eco-park boasts lush vegetation and unique wildlife due to the humidity from the nearby sea. Visitors can explore craggy rocks, verdant landscapes, and even ancient Inca ruins. The area is perfect for trekking, cycling, and rock climbing. While not frequented by many tourists or locals, it provides a safe and enjoyable experience for nature enthusiasts.
This place is a great location to see some nature around Lima. The place is about 60min away from Lima and reachable by local busses. The entrance is 8 soles. Not many tourists come to visit as this hike is still a hidden secret. The (long) walk is about 7.5km. The shorter one might be around 5km. The way is muddy in winter so make sure u wear some good shoes.
Pipi L — Google review
The walk times listed are for a family walking, if you’re fit, healthy and can walk at a reasonable pace you can knock them down by 1/3. The views are terrific and the guides try to be helpful and fun, I do advise going there by the bus but not tour companies (or at least not leaving with them) as they take you around more sites (expensive touristy restaurants, a gimmicky mandarin field tour and wine tasting I wouldn’t recommend.

A good area for trekking during winter-spring. The route is open until 3pm or so. Sandy trail on the way out.

Beautiful place Here and a fun SAFe experience (I was worried on the way in). a hill trek embedded in cloud. easiest way to get here is by Uber. cost us 65 Sol to get dropped off at the base. there are 2 paths (picture posted), the higher path that went left was closed due to cloud, so we turned right and went down. Fun locals that are helpful if you know Spanish. Meals, snacks and water available locally. Safe place to come for a trek.the ground is a bit slippery due to the clay texture so maybe scuff your soles up a bit t get added grip Enjoy!

International airport
Jorge Chavez International Airport is the main airport serving Lima, Peru. It features an on-site shopping center and a hotel, making it convenient for travelers. Lima itself offers a rich tapestry of experiences, from its delectable cuisine to its vibrant arts and culture scene. The airport also provides amenities such as internet access, recreational areas with table tennis and billiards, as well as shared kitchen and BBQ facilities at PayPurix Hostel.
Was my first experience in the “New” Airport Jorge Chávez! My way was quickly because choose to travel in Sunday. 2 nice bridges mark our welcome to the airport. When my taxi left me, people with orange jacket help in all. I win a troller to my bags and the people that rent them not are available to follow you offering that or the others with offering protect your bags. My friends told me that I have to walk a lot but didn’t was that with an authorized taxi. Inside the airport all was perfectly signed and people answer your questions very kindly. Machines and all are the last ones… totally modern and working very well and fast. The line to old people, disabilities and children are very important and are there in all the process Left my preferred country in the world with a kind of proud. A modern and confortable airport is great!!!!
Diana C — Google review
Historically bad airport!!!! They hand search your bag at the gate to prevent you from bringing liquids on the plane. Hello? What was the point of security? This is actually the craziest policy I’ve ever heard. Let me be clear: 1 you go through security. 2 you buy a water bottle, let’s say you buy it from Starbucks. 3 you are NOT allowed to bring the Starbucks water bottle on the plane!!!! Does that make any sense to anyone? Let’s not forget that the brand-new $30 billion airport conveniently doesn’t have a single water fountain. Idek what to think. If I was a flight attendant whose job it was to serve water to passengers, I’d be pissed. Absurd. I still can’t comprehend. I’ve never experienced anything like this. Very frustrating. I had to add a pic so y’all can understand me properly. Bills Mafia style folding tables at the gate so we can hand search every bag. Nuts.

This airport is less than 6 months old and is going through some growing problems. But overall this is a large, clean and well designed facility and the lines moves along fast enough. But they could use few more workers to direct people and stop people from cutting lines.
Jesse L — Google review
Wow. Wow. Wow. One of the best airports I had been at. This airport was designed keeping in mind that humans are around using the facility. I was told the airport was opened last June 2025. Everything is new and extremely well designed. Some Area in the airport still under construction but, it does not interfere with its regular operation. Every corner and space is being designed with attention to detail. Two things I have not seen in other airports: the seats inside the airport do not have the dividers between them like many other airports. This means, if you need to get a nap you can do it without any interference (see photo) Just stretch your legs and relax. I noticed that the international gates are private surrounded by glass. Looks very nice. The restrooms are spacious, clean and organized. The duty free area offers a large selection of merchandise very well displayed. Plenty options when it comes with restaurants and coffee shops. We loved everything in this facility.
Jackie E — Google review
5-star facility with 3-star service. Transferred here twice recently. 1) No proper transfer channel between domestic and international flights - you have to exit and re-enter the airport. 3) Poor signage and very few staff speak English. 3) Boarding gates announced only one hour before departure, causing large crowds to gather in the central shopping and dining area (seems intentional). Beautiful new terminal, but still a long way to go in terms of passenger experience.
Charles Z — Google review
A very modern airport thatvis easy to navigate around. Arrived for a domestic flight and within 30 minutes got my back checked, ticket and through airport security very efficient. Many options for shopping as well as places to eat.
Craig B — Google review
If you're going to come to this airport as your layaway then I would highly suggest that you make sure it's at least 2 hours because the walk is far. This was my airport to catch my connecting flight to LAX and it was an hour layaway. My flight arrives a little early so it helped out a lot. The walk to just go past customs is far and if there a long line then it might take a while. Then the walk to the connecting gate is another distance where you have to walk through their little mall and then another path.
Peter X — Google review
Complete chaos, my clients are oftentimes having to wait an hour on the tarmac to get a bus rather than a gate. Immigration is now doing biometrics (photos and fingerprints) causing even more delay. The new "modern" airport is almost a replica of the old terminal but far slower. Poor signage and overly aggressive security,. All of this creates major issues with going to and coming from the terminal as well.

Peruvian restaurant
Restaurant Huaca Pucllana offers an elevated Peruvian dining experience in an elegant setting with stunning views of the pre-Incan stepped pyramid, Huaca Pucllana. The restaurant is located in the Miraflores district of Lima and boasts a unique open-air patio adjacent to the ancient adobe temple. Under the leadership of chefs Marilu Madueno and Andrea Masaro, the restaurant presents a modern interpretation of Peruvian cuisine, showcasing a variety of traditional ingredients.
A must do in Lima ! If you want a delicious lunch or dinner while enjoying a historic site in the Peruvian history, that is your place ! We had lunch on the monument. Their food was delicious. I recommend trying their Peruvian specialities. I definitely advise you to try !
Noé D — Google review
I’ve been here twice and both times the experience was similar - palatable food, mediocre to poor service, all in a beautiful setting. The second time I came was to bring my daughter because the atmosphere is amazing. Next time, we will go on the tour (which is well worth it) and simply slip into the restaurant for a picture. The food is generally not that good, edible, but not terrible… and very expensive for the quality. The service was inattentive both times. The last time, we asked for the space heater to be turned on. The server turned it on and it went off (maybe out of gas). I asked again for him to turn it on, it didn’t go on and he just quit working on it, nor did he bring another one over to replace the one that wouldn’t turn on. Both times I remember looking around for at least 5 minutes for someone, anyone to bring me a check. It also took several minutes to find someone to bring me a spoon for my stew. It’s amazing how hard it is to find a server given how many there are around and we sat at 5:30 PM so the restaurant was less than 1/4 full. But the setting is picturesque, especially with Huaca Pucllana lit up at night. Without tip or any alcohol, the pictured meal cost over PEN 300!
Eugene R — Google review
This restaurant in placed in a privileged place and the food is fantastic. However, I felt waiters are not there to make your experience unique like the surroundings but to do their job and that's it. Maybe the administration needs to change the way they operate; I was assisted by, at least, 5 different waiters who didn't know what stage of dinner I was in or about the last request I had made. This place has the potential to be in the top of every list. Don't waste the opportunity.
Antonio T — Google review
Dinner when the lights come on and the pyramid lights up is the best time of the evening! The food is great and the atmosphere even better. 2000+ years of history while sipping cocktails and enjoying gourmet Peruvian cuisine. The stuffed pepper and a chocolate sundae for dessert… extra yummy!
Kristian P — Google review
After an evening tour of the Pucllana archaeological site, we wanted to have dinner overlooking the ruins. Everything we tried was delicious, and the view made the night feel both romantic and magical. The service was attentive and friendly, adding to the experience. We especially enjoyed the cheesy scallops, the crunchy-yet-sweet shrimp, and the perfectly cooked beef tenderloin with scalloped potatoes. To finish, the volcano cake provided just the right touch of sweetness to end the evening. It is definitely a good idea to reserve a table in advance if you want a better viewpoint of the ruins. The restaurant is beautifully designed and can accommodate larger parties or intimate dates. The prices were higher than some spots in Lima but fair considering the quality of food and the ambiance.
Desiree M — Google review
Pricey, but good ambience and the food is decent. There is a large outdoor (covered) section so the noise level is low despite the place being about 80% full at round 2:30PM. Our local tour booked this place, situated right next to the archeological site (admission to the site not included). Although both dishes are good, I would highly recommend the duck one on the left.
Paul L — Google review
I tried the yucca and cheese empanadas, potatoes stuffed with meat, causitas Pucllana, and the classic fish cebiche — everything was delicious! For dessert, I had the suspiro de limeña topped with meringue. It was very sweet, and I absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was amazing, especially with the beautiful view of the Pucllana ruins. Highly recommend!

The Bad 1. They cannot accommodate allergies. They said they could, they cannot. 2. If you have any substitutions made they will not season your food. 3. It’s expensive and not value for money. 4. Their wifi does not work. Couldn’t load a web page or call an uber home 5. With substitutions the food was bad imagining without them it would probably be okay The Good 1. Corvina tartare was great 2. Service was good and attentive 3. The drinks were good, we had the mule and Paloma

SSHH del Parque Kennedy, located in Miraflores, is a vibrant and lively spot that captures the essence of South American energy. On a Saturday evening, visitors can immerse themselves in the local culture by strolling through a craft market, observing people dancing, and admiring the work of talented local painters. One unique feature of this park is its population of cats, which adds an element of curiosity and delight for children.
