Valle de la Luna, also known as Valley of the Moon, is a unique area with trails and peculiar rock formations shaped by mountain erosion. The landscape is characterized by its lunar-like appearance, created by a combination of heavy precipitation over the years and soft volcanic soil. Situated near La Paz, this dramatic badland features natural amphitheaters and eroded rock walls that crumble under your fingertips.
Absolutely stunning! 15 min from La Paz South, you have to go and see those incredible landscapes. Between Star Wars and the moon, it's a great site to visit. There are 2 tours, a 15 min and a 45 min one. The 45 min is the best. From the Teleférico green line last stop you can catch a collective bus or grab a cab. The entrance fee is 20 BOB. Totally worth it!

Don’t even think of not going! The geological site is extremely beautiful with breath taking views! It’s a STOP that you need to visit while in La Paz!

Nice park but not great for cycling. We are around sixty years old and found it too hilly to bike.

I visited Moon valley with a tour group in October 2025. Moon valley has sandstones and clay rich columnar structures and located in the lowest altitude of La Paz. As explained by our tour guide Milena, the origin of name is related to the astronaut Neil Amstrong. He saw a shiny patch on earth from moon and decided to visit the place once he arrived on earth. So that brought him to salt marshes in Bolivia. During the visit he arrived at La Paz valley and noted the present moon valley area. So he called out that it looks like in moon and so came the name Moon Valley 😊 Many foreigners and rich people and those having high blood pressure problems selected moon valley area as their residence because of favorable climatic conditions there. Also altitude sickness is not a big issue in this part. It’s very touristic and well managed by the government. But I still prefer the Animas Valley, which is not very accessible and having less facilities for tourists over Moon Valley 😊
Warshi D — Google review
This place is quite interesting yet a bit bland. Please consider to partner with Sony Pictures Entertainment to get the copyright of Starship Troopers. This place is perfect to be a Starship Troopers theme park. I have so many ideas for it, which not necessarily involves high-tech stuffs.
Yu L — Google review
Interesting place to see, different kind of landscape but don't expect any world wonders. Park is pretty run down and in need of maintenance with holes in the paths and broken bridges.
Niek W — Google review
After reading the reviews, I nearly was discouraged not to go. Some complain of this or that, look take a Trufi(local transport) which will leave you right at the entrance of it for BS3.8 one way and the same to return to downtown La Paz. Thus it is an amazing place. Sit down, take in the sights and enjoy. BS20 to get in, thus 28 Bolivianos at the most it’ll be what it’ll ran you. About $2.05 if that. Water and sunscreen if ya worry about the sun. From La Paz to here it’ll be a tad bit warmer because you’ll be coming down a bit lower than the 3600ish altitude!
Jay — Google review
Stunning views, easy hike, entrance fee is 20bs. There's two trails, total hike is 1 hour

Mirador Killi Killi is a popular hilltop destination in La Paz, Bolivia, offering stunning panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. It is known for its dramatic vistas and scenic gardens, making it a favorite spot for locals to unwind or enjoy romantic moments. The viewpoint holds historical significance as it served as the headquarters during an indigenous siege in 1781.
Waaah such a beautiful place to see all of La Paz!! Would recommend going there around 5:30 and staying until 7 so you can see both the sunset and the lights at night!!!! Nice place for a lil picnick too I would say :)
Eva W — Google review
Great viewpoint for shots of the city. I'm not sure how safe the wall back would be at night, but getting there during the day was not an issue and I was able to take Uber back down. It is not a long walk to get to the viewpoint, but there is a fair elevation gain so if you have not acclimated yet you may want to consider having a car drop you off.
Parker V — Google review
Lovely mirador with a 360° view over La Paz. Resting area too so you can rest a little after climbing there and have a glance on the city. Definitely worth it!
Nathalie P — Google review
Things to Keep in Mind The climb up is quite steep; given La Paz’s high altitude, taking a taxi or cable car part-way may be wise if you aren’t acclimatised. Mirador Killi Killi is one of the best lookout points in La Paz. The view of the city and surrounding Andes is breathtaking. We took a taxi up to avoid the steep climb, arrived around sunset and stayed until dusk — the city lights and colors of the sky were unforgettable. Bring a jacket and water, and allow about 30-45 minutes to take it all in. Highly recommended for a short stop while exploring La Paz. “Killi Killi” comes from a small bird of prey (falco sparverius) that once inhabited the area. The site served as a vantage and control point during the 1781 siege of La Paz by indigenous leader Tupac Katari.
Vakhtang J — Google review
Great viewpoint right in the middle of the city!!! It's interesting to see the views of La Paz from the cable cars but from this viewpoint it is different because you are right in the middle of the city, surrounded by the populated mountains in the area. If you are in Sopocachi or nearby neighborhoods, it will be a small 25-40 minutes walk to reach the viewpoint. It is not necessary to pay an entry fee even though there were signs with prices. Nobody was working there to enforce the payment of a ticket. This place is good to visit after exploring the area around the plaza San Francisco.
Deric ( — Google review
Astonishing! Take a Trufi up there or walk it up, either way, a well kept and beautiful sighting of La Paz at nearly 360° all around. Enjoy!
Jay — Google review
A big walk straight up to get to the Mirrador but unreal views once you get there. A bunch of benches to sit on, a quiet chill spot. I have no doubt the sunrise or sunset would be amazing. When you see the street art below you are getting close to the Mirrador.

Plaza Murillo, located in the heart of La Paz's old town, is a grand square that serves as the epicenter of Bolivia's political life. Surrounded by stunning colonial architecture, this historic plaza is home to significant landmarks such as the Presidential Palace and the National Congress. The intricate facades and historical significance of these buildings offer visitors a glimpse into Bolivia's rich political and cultural heritage.
Ground zero of Bolivian politics, with the Presidential Palace and National Congress host here in some historic colonial buildings. Also a very beautiful cathedral is found in La Plaza and the open space around this square is very well guarded 24 hrs/day with plenty of military units and special police forces. The surrounding streets can be a nice surprise for visitors, with another main attractions of La Paz, starting from museums, mercados, boutique-shops, clubs, theaters, different churches and different impressive buildings.

Great to people watch and see Camino market 0km. Pigeons are pretty out of control, circa London 1985. Buildings of modern and old are mixed, changing of guards also possible to see. Only downside some off characters around, valuables as usual keep them close.

Full of pigeons, used to be great for pictures until that big ugly government tower was built. Still a significant part of the city, it is considered the starting point to measure distance in La Paz. You can find an old church, the old movie theatre and state buildings there.

The Museum San Francisco is home to exhibits on Bolivia's history and heritage, including archaeology, art and anthropology. The museum has bilingual staff who are happy to answer any questions in English, French or Spanish. The Museo San Francisco is a great place to start your exploration of Bolivian culture.
Really interesting. I love history. Dedicated to San Francisco's life. Lot of paintings indigenous influenced. The building was a Franciscan convent. The church and museum are worth a visit.
Julio R — Google review
The place is filled with history, they’ll take you around from one room to the next and try to retain as much of the information as possible. It’s amazing how detailed and well maintained they were. My guide was amazing, she’s a linguist so she’s working well with getting all the correct terms, and her history knowledge is amazing (she’s a history snob and loves it).

Really surprised by this. Hoped to have a wander around, but ended up with a tour (just my wife and I). Tour guide was outstanding. Really interesting and went to lots of places you don't without a tour guide. Had a great hour or so.

Our guide was very good. Interesting to see inside the building.

Definitely recommend visiting the museum and cathedral if you are staying in La Paz. Good activity to do on a slower / quieter day. Tour guides take you around the museum and part of the cathedral. Tours are available in English. Our tour was slightly rushed so a few rooms we didn't have time to read all the information about the place and purpose of each room. The tour did however take us to the top of the cathedral which we were not expecting so was a nice surprise. Good view of the plaza from the top and of the bell tower.
Tom B — Google review
I really recommend you to visit San Francisco. You will find ancient things that were used for eucharist and processions, in addition to old paintings and has guides who speak English, French and Spanish.

A must-have Bolivian experience. There are all the touristy vendors, but everything else as well. If you like the energy of all kinds of people, products, sights, etc., then go here. It's far more than just shopping.
Chuck L — Google review
Usually this place hosts a lot of different sizes of fairs. There is parking close to the area, sanitary equipment. Really close to the cable car interconection (light blue line). There is always food options (try to chose the boiled or fried options). Worth to visit in Alasitas fair (at the end of January)

The Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of La Paz is a grand and awe-inspiring structure with a soaring dome, neoclassical ornamentation, and an Italian marble altar. Originally built in 1622, the cathedral underwent reconstruction due to safety concerns and was finally completed in 1989. With immense stained glass windows, five naves, and seating for nearly one thousand pilgrims, it stands as one of La Paz's most impressive religious landmarks.
Built in 1835, a neoclassic architecture with baroque elements. There are five naves in the interior but seems to need some love and maintenance both inside and outside. Visitors are free to enter and pictures with no flashes are allowed. The entrance has staircases and doesn’t have accessible ramp.
Sarry Z — Google review
Located in the city center plaza, cathedral I would say is quite boring. It’s dark inside, not much to see or do inside either. Spent about 30 seconds inside and came back out. At least admission was free
Allen L — Google review
On the corner of bustling Plaza Murillo stands one of La Paz’s most impressive religious structures, the Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace. In 1622, construction of the Cathedral first began, taking 70 years to complete. Initially, the building was made from stone, brick and lime, however in 1831 cracks started to appear threatening to collapse the Cathedral. In 1831 the decision was made to demolish the building completely. In 1834 several taxes were imposed in the department of La Paz in order to raise the 30,000 pesos a year needed to reconstruct the Cathedral. Construction on the current Cathedral began on March 24, 1835, led by architect Manual Sanahuja. The Cathedral was officially opened in 1925 as part of the centenary of the founding of the Republic of Bolivia. However, work remained to be done. Furnishing of the interior continued until 1932. The building itself was not completely finished until 1989, over 150 years since construction began, when the two lateral towers on the outside of the Cathedral were added to coincide with a visit by Pope John Paul II.

Montículo is a charming park located in the tranquil neighborhood of Sopocachi, offering stunning views of the city and surrounding mountains. The park features a Neptune fountain and is known for its romantic ambiance, making it a popular spot for couples. The Inmaculada Concepcion del Monticulo church within the park is a favored wedding venue due to local beliefs about its luck-bringing properties. This off-the-beaten-path destination also attracts poets and writers seeking inspiration.
This place is the heart of Sopocachi, always has been the quietest place of the neighborhood. The church, park, trees, guard the site from noise and traffic. Many students take advantage of the site to read and learn, couples of its intimacy, and most people, like me, for meditating and enjoying peace along some of the most beautiful sights of La Paz. Undoubtedly, it’s a place to visit if you are in the city.

Sucre Square, also known as Plaza Sucre, is a green central square in the heart of the medium-sized city of Sucre. It features a statue of statesman Antonio José de Sucre and is overlooked by a small church. The square serves as a convenient meeting point and is surrounded by restaurants and shops. However, it's important to note that there is a famous prison located across the street, so caution is advised when considering any unofficial prison tours.
The tour was excellent! Matt was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable about the city, the history and culture. He was most entertaining and I would highly recommend this tour!

A lot of history happened here, which you should find out about before visiting. We were lucky enough to find a very good local guide, Max, from Red Hat, doing a walking tour that included this dafuq square. It's also a very short distance from a couple of museums and of course there cathedral is right across the street.

The name they call this square is San Pedro. The prison is located here, you can pay to enter. Also people pay to live there as it has everything apparently. The square itself has a few vendors and a good ice-cream/milkshake place there also there's a church(San Pedro)

A tidy public square, not too large, with a large statue that serves as a handy meeting point. This place is also called Plaza Sucre. (Translated by Google) 100% recommendable to go and do some trekking. Take a bus (2bs) or a taxi (5-6bs) and have them drop you off at the door. In Wikiloc you can find more routes but the main one is this one. Very beautiful and very quiet to go for a morning or afternoon. Take water and food. About 6 km.
