Nice, clean, and comfortable airport. It’s not huge, but has a good selection of restaurants and shops for travelers. We arrived early, so many eateries were still closed—most open at 9:00. Facilities are well-maintained, and signage makes it easy to get around. Security and check-in were smooth. There are souvenir shops selling Hokkaido specialties like Shiroi Koibito cookies and Royce chocolates, great for last-minute gifts. Seating is comfortable, with plenty of charging spots. There’s also a kids’ play area and an on-site hot spring. The airport feels organized and relaxed, making it a pleasant place to start or end a trip.

New Chitose Airport is a great example of how a regional hub can feel both modern and welcoming. The terminal is impressively clean with a warm, airy design — lots of natural light, wood accents, and an inviting layout that makes waiting for flights less stressful. Before departure, the airport really shines. There are plenty of food options, from casual Hokkaido specialties like soup curry, ramen, and seafood bowls, to popular cafés and bakeries, plus well-stocked souvenir shops filled with local chocolates and dairy products. It’s easy to enjoy a proper meal or pick up last-minute gifts before your flight. However, once you pass through customs and security, the choices narrow considerably. The post-immigration area has only a few shops and dining spots, which can feel underwhelming compared to the lively pre-departure zone. Travelers who want variety are better off eating or shopping before crossing into the secure area. Overall, though, New Chitose is a very good airport: clean, efficient, and friendly, with a touch of Hokkaido charm. It provides a smooth travel experience, especially for those connecting between domestic and international flights, and makes a great final stop before leaving the island.

Probably the best airport I've been to and I've been to a lot. It's not the newest or the most architecturally stunning airport but it has the most to offer. Countless places to gwt some great food at a good price, a beer or even some unique souvenirs at a great price which is rare at airports. One architectural point of note is the long arc of the terminal, which allows one a view of the planes and runway at any gate. Tip: if it's too busy near your gate, just walk away to a quieter spot and get a seat and a view. Just make sure you get to your gate on time!

I would like to thank staff at the Tourist Information Centre. We landed in Chistose from Brisbane and went to an English speaking staff member on the day we landed and she saw our drafted itinerary with day trip from Sapporo. The lady that helped us was kind and very helpful, she helped us organise our Otaru and Cape Kumari day trip. Where we were thinking of paying over 3 times on a taxi, she organised our Shako Shuttle Bus to Cape Kumai from Bikuni and saved a lot of money. The shakotan peninsula was beautiful and she reserved our seats and gave us a time to leave Otaru to Bikuni. We are most grateful to her for scheduling our shuttle bus.

Love the vibes here! Make sure you come earlier, there’s so many resto, foodcourt and shops and even onsen spa. It’s Just like little Japan in one place. But they close pretty early like 7-8pm.

I really love CTS Airport—everything is convenient and easy, from arrivals to getting into town. There are convenience stores, ATMs, restrooms, and money exchange counters readily available. Most of the staff can speak English, which makes the experience smooth and stress-free for international travelers. It’s a well-organized and welcoming airport that leaves a great first impression of Hokkaido.

This is not a normal airport. It was an airport which had shops for you to buy a lot of things as souvenirs. The largest inside the airport provide a variety of food for you to choose from. And the views you could see from the windows was spectacular

Fantastic! First time here can't believe I get to experience onsen in airport!! If you stay at air terminals hotel it free as well! It open at 5am so enjoy the outdoors hot springs as well! (There's wooden door) free locker too . It locations at 4F once you see Hatsune Miku turn right you should see the iconic design! Highly recommended I felt soo refresh too!

Oke, for first time it was a little bit surprise knowing that traveler can't stay overnight in area sapporo airport building. We have early morning flight, and it was winter, because we are afraid there will blizzard in the morning so we choose to come night before flight and stay overnight in airport. That's we found that all area in airport will close and we must move out. Luckily the security told us that we can stay in airport onsen in 4th floor. It can be said a little bit like lounge? The facility available are onsen, make up room with amenities and hairdryer, yukata, locker, sleeping chair, full flowing water and breakfast. Breakfast available from 6 am. The onsen consist of 3 pools and many water taps and its stool. If you want a little bit privacy, go to onsen in approx 4~5 AM. It cost 4600 Yen/person if you stay overnight, and I think it was better than to have sleep in hard chair like another airport. It is suitable for visitor with early morning flight

Just filled my needs in the long waiting for my flight. At first I didn’t know they have onsen in the airport, and today is the last day of the trip, after return the rental car, I came to airport and thinking about how to deal with the 7 hours waiting time, onsen is very good, 3 hot bath, 1 cold bath, and 2 露天風呂, you can see the view from it, also they have steam room, even body scrub service( i didn’t try, it need to book in advance) and the relax room for you to sleep when you are sleepy, i do sleep for a while and charge my phone here, the massage chair is also nice and cheap(300 yen/ 15 minutes) in the lobby side they also provide massage service, around 9000 yen per hour if i’m not wrong. highly recommend if you do have time for your flight.

Had complimentary entry for the spa courtesy of staying at Air Terminal Hotel. However this onsen has a STRICT no tattoo policy even after I had covered it up with tape. Counter service was polite enough about it.

Very convenient if you are arriving late in Chitose or need to catch a very early flight the next morning. Price is good which comes with light breakfast, indoor and outdoor onsen are great including the sauna and steam room

Super convenient for staying overnight if you have an early flight. The 5 star rating primarily goes to the convenient location, otherwise it would be a 4 star rating. ¥4,600 for overnight stay, which I think it's a tiny bit much but still cheaper than any hotels in the near vicinity.

Rest easy, fly refreshed at Chitose Airport Onsen! I recently stayed overnight at Chitose Airport Onsen with my family to catch an early morning flight, and it was a fantastic experience! The facility is incredibly neat, clean, and well-managed, making our stay comfortable from start to finish. The highlight of our stay was the exceptional service provided by their manager, Mr. Take. He was courteous, caring, and welcoming, ensuring that we felt right at home. The two rest and relax halls with comfortable reclining chairs were perfect for unwinding after a long day of travel. However, be aware that you might lose some sleep if other guests are snoring loudly. Despite the overnight charge of 2000 Yen, the onsen is excellent value for money, especially considering the exorbitant rates of other airport hotels. The simple breakfast and free beverages available all the time were a nice touch and much appreciated. Given that Chitose Domestic Airport closes at 11:30 PM, forcing passengers to vacate the premises, the onsen provides a crucial and convenient option for those critical night hours. Overall, Chitose Airport Onsen is a wonderful place to stay, and I highly recommend it for any travelers needing an overnight stay before an early flight.

This is a ghost town, not sure why the management has made it clear to public about it. There is just one shop here, Krispy Kream and nothing else, like many Japanese stories this one might be another aswell where they open the entire mall because one shop is still here. Do not go to this place, it's waste of your time and money.

Now only the Krispy Kreme remains - every other store has completely closed. The lights are on, music is being played out of the speakers and the place is being maintained for now. The only visitors are locals getting by donuts or going for a walk. Few people seem like they are just having a look out of curiosity. Interesting but not worth a visit.

Except for New Balance & ABC-Mart Sports Outlet, this is a ghost town with all other shops closed. Wouldn't recommend this place. What a pity.

It is a fair size outlet mall similar layouts as those in North America. But many stores are closed leaving only limited stores that are open. Not too many people during the day. Some stores are heated. There are a few coffee spots and food places as well. Hope more stores will be opened and more people coming here.

Don't go! All shops closed except Seria ,ABC shop, GAP and Puma. It is like a ghost town. dont waste your time going. The alternative outlet is Mitsui Outlet but not easy access by train. Best is to take a bus from Sapporo JR Station.

Went to this outlet few years ago and it was great with lots of shops. However, most are shut down now, only around 8 shops are still opened at this moment (May 2024). Regret that I didn’t check the recent reviews before coming! It’s a nice place but super waste of time as only less than 15% of the shops are occupied and functioning … deserted outlet like zombie movies. Not bad if you don’t mind only a few shops, cos the outlet is quiet and spacious

Not a good idea to kill the time here. Aeon supermarket is okay, more choices but others are worse. Restaurant choice is less than Domestic airport. I got one set of Ramen and Pork with rice for 1,160 yen, not too bad.

I like it here cheap supermarket to get all kinds of items such as snacks and fresh fruits. Definitely cheaper than sapporo. Stopped by because i had to wait for the bus to go to lake shikotsu. Their tempura yams and pumpkin are pretty good. Various shops and food court is also in the same building.

What more can be said about Aeon? One of the largest brands in the nation Aeon typically offers a supermarket as well as a department store experience. We solely came in for the supermarket section and it was massive. Prices are reasonably priced and you'll be able to pick up all your essentials here as well as all the food you can imagine. If you're staying in the area as a tourist with a kitchen, then I highly recommend stopping by to pick up a few things to cook on your own. We bought a lot of Japanese beef and cooked them up ourselves; the beef was super fresh and flavorful so it won't disappoint!

AEON Chitose serves as the primary shopping hub in the city, providing a spacious parking lot that ensures convenience and ease of access. Its proximity to Chitose Station makes it even more reachable for shoppers who prefer public transportation. This multi-faceted store shines brightly in baby goods availability, catering to the needs of families with little ones. The ground floor houses a large-scaled grocery store, which makes shopping for daily necessities extremely easy and convenient. The lack of a similar competitive store in Chitose city lends AEON a monopoly, but this also comes with its own set of drawbacks. The mall could greatly benefit from adding more attractive tenants to diversify the shopping experience and cater to a wider customer base. Overall, AEON Chitose is a reliable one-stop shopping destination with ample facilities but could use a little more variety in its tenant mix.

Overall, this is a well designed and interesting aquarium. There are a large variety of displays, from huge tanks with lots of fish, to many smaller tanks with no tops, where you can look straight down at the fish and other creatures. The range of different species of fish is also impressive. As well there are frogs, snails, turtles, crayfish, and even an axolotl. Seeing the river through the glass is so unique. We loved watching these wild fish. All the tanks, water, and glass were spotlessly clean. We also liked the fact that the aquarium wasn't too big. It was just enough. My only unhappiness was the 3 minks going mad in a space that was too small for such active animals. It was distressing to watch.

Great place for kids to spend a couple hours. Lots of exhibits and the view of the lake is pretty neat. Can be done between 1-2 hours

For English speakers. A unique aquarium where most of the fish here are freshwater fish. You get to learn about how Salmon is caught and history of it. However many of that section is not in English and is all in Japanese. You'll need to use the translation app for that. They have a seasonal section too and for the summer they have bugs. Various beetles and even some snakes. Neat to see. The layout is great and the place is clean and well organized. I would definitely recommend checking this out especially if you are by the michi no eki right next door. They also have a underground section where you can see the actual river next to the building to see wild salmon if you are lucky to see them. All in all, highly recommend for family with kids to check out.

Great place to visit. We can see many species of salmon here. However, this place do not have special attraction like others aquarium. There also must visit shopping place and garden near this museum.

Surprisingly good and I loved the fact that you can actually see the river from below ground through the glass. There actually is a lot of salmons passing by.

'More than I expected! Chitose Aquarium is fun for adults too." The Chitose Aquarium, the home of salmon, was a stopover during a trip to Hokkaido. To be honest, from the name I thought it would be a small facility specialising in salmon. But I was disappointed in a good way 😊. Admission is 800 yen for adults. The museum is spacious and has a wide variety of exhibits. Not only can you learn about the ecology of salmon, but you are also welcomed by a variety of other creatures 👌. The following exhibits left a particularly strong impression on me: - Sturgeon: the sight of this huge freshwater fish swimming leisurely is a powerful sight. - Chinese eel: the way it peeks out of the sand is adorable and you can't stop looking at it. - American mink: swims underwater and climbs trees like a little ninja. - Eboshi chameleon: it was refreshing to see it on display without a fence and to be able to observe it up close.  In the Underwater Observation Zone, located underground, visitors can observe the actual Chitose River through a window. If you are lucky, you can even see salmon running upstream up close, giving you a first-hand look at the workings of nature.  The museum is clean and the exhibits are carefully explained. There was a sense of ingenuity throughout the museum to make it enjoyable for both children and adults. Especially for men in their twilight years like me, it is a valuable spot where you can forget your everyday life and refresh yourself 📣. If you visit Hokkaido, please stop by. It is definitely worth more than the price!

A ten out of ten aquarium. Beautifully presented. Lots of variety. A viewing room into the river where there also fish to see. I really liked the aquarium on Lisbon, but in its own way this is as good. Well worth a visit.

The taste is passable, but not too surprising. The lamb flavor itself is not too strong. The sauce is quite salty. 3.5 Stars.

As our last meal in Hokkaido, we went for another round of lamb BBQ inside the airport. They have a special sauce for the lamb that is pretty rich that is best enjoyed with some rice or udon. This is one of the restaurant in my to go list. I love to have lamb bbq in Sapporo during winter time to keep me warm. The set portion is good for one person, and if you are hungry, you can add on rice and miso soup for free. And I appreciate the staff try their very best to communicate with me in English. Also they have individual packs for the meat if you love to buy it back home town as souvenirs.

Obviously it’s a famous brand and it has many stores in Hokkaido. I got my hopes up but I think it’s too salty. The lamb is tender though.

Excellent food - you've found a real gem here. The experienced chef knows how to cook European food and we had an excellent tomato and mozzarella salad followed by vegetarian alio olio and braised beef. Good wine and great bread too!

I cannot recommend this spot highly enough. Understated decor and a quiet location disguise the complexity that lies within. It’s best to order one of the Omakase courses. There are several options ranging from lighter to extravagant, based on how much you’d like to eat. (There is also an a la carte menu.) The chef is a culinary genius; every component of the meal was surprising and delightful. He speaks very good English and carefully explained the nuances of each plate. From the fresh, house-made walnut baguette at the beginning to the strawberry cardamom compote and panna cotta at the close, I was amazed by the subtlety and flawless execution. There is a nice wine selection as well. I only tried red, but the Bordeaux and Cabernet that I had were both incredible. This restaurant alone is worth making a trip to Chitose, and if you find yourself here already it’s not even a question. I will be back as soon as I can!

The restaurant uses mainly Hokkaido ingredients and the elaborate cooking brings out the delicious flavor of each ingredient. The satisfaction and happiness you get is worth more than the price. The chef explains the dishes thoroughly. The grilled abalone with abalone liver sauce was so delicious I nearly fainted.

We stayed at the Best Western Plus for the night and wanted to try something different from typical Japanese food. Just a 3-minute walk away, we found an Italian restaurant called Akioka. The chef spoke English, which made ordering easier. We had a duck dish, chicken, and spaghetti with crab meat — everything was delicious!

A very good restaurant within the small town unexpectedly, the chef was very nice and had introduce us different daily fresh ingredients. Unfortunately the light course require the whole table to order, at last we ordered a la carte, but was very nice. The environment was very relaxful and the service is nice :) food are served hot and beautifully (sorry for my bad camera skills) would definitely come again if we travel here. Chitose is a small quiet town, and it is the last night I stayed in Hokkaido. At first, I didn't expect to have a great dinner here, and after searching from Google, my wife show me this place and I chose here. Surprisingly, all of my family like this dinner very much, especially the beef steak, which doesn't show in the English menu, but I saw from the review, so I asked the chef. It was fantastic. The fish saute was also very good.

Experienced the food here on September 1, 2025 and it was amazing! The use of Hokkaido ingredients in his European designed dishes is fantastic.

We drove 20 minutes just to have their noodles. Take note, very few parking lots. Thus you can imagine how reputed the ramen is. They close at 1930h so coming here late can lead to disappointment. Affordable yet delicious, its a comfort bowl of goodness you'll appreciate.

Excellent place for a ramen. It was a good alternative to Menya Rey Ramen just a few blocks down. The noodles was done perfectly al Dante, and the broth packs a punch. Portions were decent and overall excellent.

Excellent noodles. Nearly certain that they make their own noodles. Broth is very good. Very efficient turn over. Cash only. Ample parking. Smells amazing as soon as you get out of the car. Definitely worth the stop here. The spicy one had heaps depth in the broth. Great find!!

Wanted to eat sushi at the restaurant opposite but had to wait an hour so we decided to pop over to this ramen stall. Which to our surprise served very very good ramen. I can taste that every bowl of ramen was slightly tossed in the wok. The slightly charred flavour gave this shop’s ramen a unique and wonderful smell. Their pork is also amazing, not too fat and it is nice and soft. Really live this place.

Came here on a Thursday afternoon around 1330 and the place was quite full. Till we left at 1400 it had a steady amount of people coming. Ordered the spicy miso 900 yen and the standard miso ramen 850 yen and both were really good. They add shredded ginger which gives it another level of taste and complexity. The shop is super clean/ well designed and not like a typical ramen joint. They have around 10 car spaces you can use for parking Only find out about here because Toyota rent a car had a ramen recommendation list of chitose and was really glad we decided to go! Definitely recommend going.

I keep coming back to iori. It’s good. Simple and done well. Very meaty broth, but a clean meaty flavor. A good layer of oil, nice meat, a little ginger. I opted for the larger “omori” size and and egg. The ajitama was nicely executed. Will try some fried rice next time I go. The table next to me had a plate and it looked (and smelled) great.

Sheltered outlet with a food court and a few restaurants. There are two buildings : clover and maple malls. If you are a tourist, head to the information counter to redeem your voucher.

A bit out of the way, but it is actually an easy commute from central Sapporo for tourists (train then bus). They have really good deals on winter clothes and shoes. Even had a blundstones pop-up, unfortunately no big sizes.

This outlet mall is fantastic, offering a wide variety of brands and an impressive shopping experience. The mall is spread across two buildings, conveniently connected by a footbridge, making it easy to navigate. The discounts here are incredible, with plenty of options to suit different tastes and budgets. The food court is a nice addition, providing a great spot to recharge during a shopping spree. I tried the banana crepe with cream and Nutella—it was absolutely delicious and a perfect treat! I also picked up some body care products and sportswear as a reward for the day, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchases. Overall, this is a must-visit destination for anyone looking for great deals, variety, and a fun shopping day out!

Most shops offered good discounts. Bought the most things from Nike. Had very awesome Butahage butadon and takiyaki at the food court.

It’s a fully indoor premium outlet, has the usual big brands, but didn’t feel like there was big discounts so we wrapped up pretty fast within an hour. When we were there, Ralph Lauren was close for renovation, reopening only some time in November. It’s still a good stop before Sapporo city as we were driving from Obihiro

6 Jul 2025 Visited on Sunday 12pm. Quiet and not crowded. Calm and peaceful environment to take a walk around. However, was disappointed to not find any alpacas here. Came here for the alpacas but they were not here anymore. Only had sheep around here, but u can’t get up close to take pictures with them. Tomato tree was quite interesting to see. Overall not worth a visit if you want to see animals

This place is great if you want to be amongst nature and see animals and plants The have the biggest tomato plant in the world which is cool! They also have sheep dog race and show which is fun to watch. Kids seem to enjoy it a lot. The pizza here is very fresh and tastes great! Its made from the tomatoes and cheese which is made on the farm itself. The workshop for alpaca 🦙 making is cute! They have a souvenir and gift shop too with a lot of items made in the farm itself. You can get here from Eniwa station by a local bus which comes every 30 minutes on the hour. We took a taxi which costed about 1500 yen. Its fun to come here if you have some time until you take the flight Overall nice place for a pit stop!

Very large garden and farm combination. The Ginga garden requires a few to enter but I think it is well worth the cost. The wood work at the main restaurant is amazing and so are the many artworks found around the park/garden.

The most incredible gardens I have ever visited in my life. Such expertise ! I got goosebumps so many times, and they kept me on my toes, the entire time. Each garden has it’s own fantastic narrative, with every little detail breathtakingly beautiful. I felt like I was a little kid again, eager to discover what was in store for me next !

Must visit if you have some time to kill before going to the new chitose airport. Great atmosphere and many things to do.

Not worth to go and pay 1200 yen / pax. Things to do - walk the garden (not much flowers bloom yet and I was not there for flowers), you may take a tram at specific timing (we didn’t know until we walked a lot) - only a few alpaca and there’s no interactions - a lot of walking in the garden and from garden to animal farm - nothing much to do / see I thought it’s a waste of money and time and trip Perhaps you may try going during the special dog/sheep show timing, otherwise I don’t recommend

On May 9, 2025, I was attracted by the cherry blossoms in the vicinity. Having taken photos to my heart’s content, I wondered what was the building in the background. So I learned it’s a visitor’s center; but as a visitor, I was only interested to see the cherries in full bloom!

We've accidentally got on Ice festival there, was very beautiful for only 500yen. Recommend to come with kids or for couples, very fun and romantic. Lake is also breathtaking! Many food shops and restaurants around. For drivers there is HUGE free parking lot. My friend recommended marshmallow to try inside of the ice village.

Great place to detour. There is welcome center with koganee (local salmon like fish) aquarium and local live frogs and lizard exhibits. The welcome center itself is cozy with great snacking lunch place nearby

This place is the big shrine in Chitose. Many kind of tree and view point. The view might look better if the tree is brooming. Anyway let's make a deep meditation here.

Peaceful and not crowded. Some local even collect spring water from the shrine. There is a park beside the shrine where you can take a stroll to kill time and enjoy the nature.

There's a chocolate shoppe, a factory behind a display class for passersby to see, plus a mini-museum all within the same area! The museum has an interesting display of their history of products, the creator as well as how they were advertised throughout the years. It's an iconic chocolate from Hokkaido, and I recommend to everyone who is here to stop by and see. It's located near the central cafeteria of the airport too, so it's hard to miss it.

Visited in 2018. First place I stopped by after touching down in Hokkaido and I absolutely love this place. There was a display on how chocolates are made and a bakery with all their chocolate goodies. You can get Royce chocolates here as well to bring back as souvenirs.

Got the bread with nama chocolate as the filling. This is nice but I would prefer it baked less brown so I can heat it up without worrying it burnt. The crossiant is not nice even after being toasted. It may not be made of butter. The price does not justified the quality. I expect the bread to be golden yellow brown instead of baked so dark brown. Should not buy again unless i c an improvement.

New Chitose Airport is a most amazing airport. It is not only somewhere you go through, but also a destination in itself. This Royce Chocolate World is one of the many things that make this wonderful experience. It is a tiny museum where you can see a brief history of chocolate, including a very nice collection of chocolate packaging and another of printed advertising. There is also a modern demo factory in production behind a huge window. Royce is a great chocolate and this little exhibition area really makes our Hokkaido trip more memorable

The chocolate from here is the best!! They have a bakery as well with pastries and fun souvenirs to take home. The bus from the station is very convenient! Try the chocolate ice cream soft serve and the other items they have 👍

Very cute food; it’s not GOOD but not that bad either. Decision to have sweetened chocolate powder in their mozzarella pizza is bold but made it more interesting. Very comfy space generally, with some tatami-floor low tables. Service was nice, but they tried to speak English with me and I thought they were speaking Japanese lol, some chaos ensued, they do have an English menu though. A mix of couples, kids, and random people like myself there, but Japanese kids make zero noise…

it is the new experience in new chitose airport. If you the fan of doraemon, should not be missed. Even the space is not that big but that also many room to explore. You can take a picture of doraemon mascot. There are shop, cafe ,library, and playgrond.

First time to eat in an anime theme restaurant and it definitely brings out the child in me. I enjoyed eating finger foods that look like toys, though I have to remind myself that these were seasoned for kids as target customers. Overall its a great experience for anime fans like me.

Cute little cafe with Doraemon themed foods and desserts. The food itself is pretty average as you'd expect. Not particularly well decorated, only mildly linked to the Doraemon theme. Some good ones like the memory bread with maths written on it. Service is minimal but ok.

We went for the onsen and lunch buffet package. ¥3700 gets you entrance into a nice quiet onsen with a huge sauna after lunch. Really nice and relaxing. However the highlight was the Buffet! Freshly cooked behind the buffet line - huge array of salads and the hot food was fantastic. Highly recommend if you spend a day on or near Lake Shikotsu but make sure you have enough time to enjoy the food and onsen. Afterwards walk along the lake and enjoy a soft cream!

But after 30 minutes no service are there, many guest has finished eat and come outside, but they don’t bring new guest inside. I just want have a lunch not a afternoon-tea! I finally go to another restaurant nearby, there were still lots of people waiting there but no staff to call any people inside. So if u like useless wait just go there.

I've been here multiple times and it's always beautiful. You can walk, use the sightseeing boat, swanboats, paddle boats etc. They all cost between 1000-2000 yen per 30mins to 1 hour. Perfect place to rest with family or even alone. Though make sure to bring CASH!! All the restaurant use cash expect for 1 or 2 store. There's an ATM on the map nearby but closes at 12pm. Lake Shikotsu, a stop between 2 cities! Driving from Sapporo to Noboribetsu isn’t that long, about an hour and a half, or so I thought! (Read the bottom part) so we decided to make a stopover at Lake Shitose! About half way between Sapporo & Noboribetsu. What an amazing destination & a total favourite with both locals & tourists alike! They have this humongous Tourist Information Center, a whole bunch of very popular restaurants, and an activity Center, can rent canoes and all kind of other lake related stuff! My lady wanted to do the “Swan Ride” on the lake, but unfortunately closed as the water was a tad choppy! A lovely park for a nice stroll and of course a promenade, to wander along! Enjoyable for a 90 minute layover so to speak! Certainly worth it! too #googlemaps! Spectacular lake view surrounded by interesting volcanoes. I suggest coming in autumn when most of the leaves are yellow and red, which will enhance the experience. You can go stand up paddle boarding and pedal boating on the lakes. On a clear day, the reflections of the clouds and mountains in the water is incredible. When you take photos of the fish, the reflection makes it look like the fish are swimming in the clouds. Perfect for any occasion, this place is a must come.

It was magical! We went while the sun was still high and we walked around, ate, and stayed till we got to experience the sculptures being lit up at night. It’s very cold, but there are heated pathways to melt the snow so that it’s not slippery and easy for anyone to walk or push their baby strollers. Beautiful area, cable car was fun. The bears in their mountaintop park was entertaining. The Ainu huts was educational and an extra bonus was a large 4 point deer lounging about 20 yards from us.

Great place to visit. Not too touristy and quite scenic. The walk to the natural foot bath was great. Only problem is the local soba noodle places have really long lines and they close early. So make time sure you budge time if you wish to have lunch there.
