Jeonju is known as a center of traditional Korean culture, anchored by its large Hanok Village with hundreds of preserved wooden houses, teahouses, and craft workshops. Visitors can explore historic sites like Gyeonggijeon Shrine and the Jeondong Catholic Cathedral, as well as museums that highlight local history and calligraphy. The city also hosts cultural festivals and performances that showcase Korean music, dance, and folk traditions.
With favorites like 연지본관, Gogung, and PNB bakery Main, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like 조점례남문피순대 and Sinbaengi Kimchi so you can get the best taste of Jeonju while you’re here. Jeonju Hanok Village is a cultural village in South Korea featuring over 800 traditional wooden houses known as hanoks. The village is home to various guesthouses, restaurants, cafes, and traditional clothing rental shops. Visitors can experience the cobblestone lanes and unique architecture of the village while enjoying octopus grills at dusk. The attraction is easily accessible by taking bus 974 or 976 from Jeonju National Palace headquarters.
I really enjoy Jeonju and this Hanok village area is the heart and soul of the city. There are many great stores and the food is amazing. It just has a great vibe. There is lots to see for kids as well. There are historical sites like the Portrait Museum which was very worthwhile to see, where you can see it is literally the birthplace of the Joseon dynasty. Definitely visit the palace grounds. If you like theatrical food performances, visit King Bibim at Bibim Sori. There is also a beautiful catholic church to see which tells about the many Korean saints who have died over the years as martyrs.

Beautiful place, even if it's a bit commercial. Lots of unique stores, cafes, etc. It gets quite crowded but it's still very nice, it has a cozy vibe. Many locals visit it.
Adriana M — Google review
2025.9.16-17 We spent 2 nights in Jeon-Ju to soak up the this UNESCO historic village’s atmosphere. On a weekday…to avoid the crowds. It rained the 2nd day. So we were fortunate to catch the sunset on the 1st day. Our hotel overlooked the village. So beautiful. In the evening, it’s even prettier and romantic. While I am disappointed with the commercialisation (lots of Hanbok rentals, loud pop music being played, restaurants, souvenir shops), I realised it is absolutely necessary to sustain the site. As it is, there are many shops that closed with signages for rental. I personally prefer this to Bukcheon. It’s quaint and easier to walk (flat as opposed to hilly). Lots of historical and Confucian significance. There’s even a 600 year old gingko tree. Many of the restaurants here are as reasonably priced as the ones outside the village. Even for a non-history buff, I would gladly return to this village again.
L Y — Google review
Nice to go to on weekdays. A bit crowded at weekends and public holidays. Some good eating places and lots of souvenir shops. Recommend the shrine and the associated museum. If you're feeling brave you can walk around in traditional Korean costume!
Christopher S — Google review
Visiting Hanok Village was certainly a pleasant experience in spite of the overtly touristy vibe. However, it the neighborhoods immediately surrounding Hanok Village proved as interesting, if not more so, than the village itself.
Reginald W — Google review
I’ve visited Jeonju more than 10 times, and it never gets old! The Jeonju Hanok Village is beautiful — full of delicious local food, charming traditional houses, and fun activities to enjoy. This place is popular among both locals and tourists. Many visitors rent hanbok, which makes the whole atmosphere even more charming — it truly feels like stepping back into the Joseon era. A must-visit spot if you want to experience traditional Korean culture and take beautiful photos in Jeonju Hanok Village! 📸 If you prefer a calm and peaceful hanok experience, go to Andong. But if you like a lively, bustling atmosphere with lots to explore, Jeonju is the place for you. A one-day trip is doable, but it can be tiring with the travel back and forth. I highly recommend staying overnight in a hanok for the full experience. You can explore the Hanok Village, nearby hills, and the Nambu Market — there’s so much to see and taste here!

Jeonju is simply breathtaking place and far beyond my expectations. Super easy to get around on foot, bike or snoopy scooter, plenty of food, coffee and stuff do check out for the kids Must do when in SK

Gyeonggijeon Shrine, located in Jeonju, South Korea, is a significant cultural and historical site that holds the legacies of the Joseon dynasty. Built in 1410 to enshrine King Taejo, the founder of the dynasty, it features history exhibits and royal portraits. The shrine is a popular filming location for period dramas and movies due to its historical significance. Additionally, visitors can explore small museums nearby such as the Traditional Wine Museum.
The Shrine is a well-preserved historical site. It is surrounded by traditional architecture, beautiful gardens, and peaceful walking paths. The site is well-maintained and provides good photo opportunities. Moreover, the museum in the complex is also quite interesting and has different activities specially for kids.

Our visit here was peaceful and relaxed. It turned out to be a far more serene setting than expected and our visit was further enhanced by a chance opportunity to witness part of an annual eagle worship ceremony held only once a year.

Visited early November. The autumn colours here were amazing esp the vibrant yellow ginkgo trees. This required a small entrance fee, but trust me, worth every penny. The surrounding worth walking both day and night, great place to stroll around and take in the hanok vibes.
Pei — Google review
Nice. Not too many people. The buildings look like many other palaces, can't really enter any building, just like any other palace, but this place doesn't have many chambers to enter anyway. 3k won entry ticket. Many trees. Clean toilets. Interesting museum at the back with no extra cost. Spare 1 hour here.
Line S — Google review
It was quite nice, but I expected more. The entrance fee was 3,000 won. Compared to other attractions, that's quite a lot for what it offers. We tried three Western credit cards, but none were accepted. That's a bit low for such a touristy place. June 2025

Nice views from front gate. They don't want people to take pictures inside. The Shrine was about to close when I arrived.

Bakery
PNB Bakery Main is a renowned establishment in Jeonju, offering an array of delectable baked goods. The bakery is particularly famous for its Choco Pies, available in various flavors and sizes. Customers can enjoy the cozy and charming atmosphere while indulging in a quick breakfast or afternoon snack. The spacious two-floor bakery provides a wide selection of pastries, allowing patrons to fill up their own trays and pay at the counter.
I’m so into PNB products especially chocolate pie, just delicious and perfectly melts in my mouth. Kinda pricey but worth to try. This PNB is the main branch in Jeonju so their products is complete compare to other stores. FYI, there’s no parking area so you have to find one and walk about 7 minutes to PNB. The road around PNB is just crowded and lively in the evening 😍🥰

I got here late afternoon and could only see sweet things, would have liked to try something savory. Nonetheless the Apple Turnover (pie) was nice. Won't hurry back but as an institution, it's worth a visit. Lots of activity in the shop, it is clearly very popular.
Philippa C — Google review
We went at 8.30 am for breakfast and we're quite disappointed with each of the breads and beverages that we ordered. At 8.30 am, I expected the breads to be warm and soft since they were supposed to freshly baked, but I had to use the microwave in the store to warm them up slightly to prevent them from tasting like the previous day's leftovers. The castella was puffy and dry, and the coffee was not tasty either. We ordered the long sausage bread, the sausage bread, the chocolate soboro bread, the castella, an Americano and a latte. Everything was disappointing but expensive. This bakery ends up being a 1 star-deserving bakery that I wouldn't recommend. The only saving grace was how spacious the bakery is.
Michelle N — Google review
Historical bakery in Jeonju. Signiture choco pie is the most famous thing here, but I like all simple bread more. A few branches around Jeonju all same good quality. Must try bakery in Jeon ju.
Roy B — Google review
These sweets are disappointing. They look good, but the taste is not great. They have a really fake flavor that doesn’t taste like real chocolate at all. It seems like they use a lot of artificial colors just to make them look chocolatey, but it’s not true. They remind me of a snack popular when I was a kid called Phoskitos. Plus, everything is wrapped in plastic, which is annoying.
Vittoria M — Google review
Bakery is great, lots of variety of cakes and bakes. The choco pies are a bit too sweet for my liking though, particularly the original one. I tried the original and banana one. Original is like a chocolate donut pastry with cream and jam, dipped in chocolate. Banana one uses banana dough and banana cream.
Susan — Google review
This bakery is huge (two floors) with a wide selection of pastries, though it is most known for its choco pies. Like many other bakeries, you fill up your own tray and pay at the counter. They will cut and heat up your pastries for you if you ask. They will also individually bag each pastry if you are taking the food to-go. I went in the morning, and it was not crowded. I got a choco pie, a hotdog bao, a walnut cookie, and a custard bun, all for less than $10. - Choco pie: The chocolate was too sweet, but the inside was light and tasted like custard. However, it was my least favorite. - Hotdog bao: The bao had a layer of crusted egg on top, which added a nice crunch. Interestingly, the hotdog was also crunchy. - Walnut cookie: It was like eating a cake in cookie form. Very airy but very sweet. Not much filling. - Custard bun: Soft and fluffy.

As soon as you entered, you were immediately hit by the smell of fresh baked goods - magic! 🤩 The famous Choco Pies were made and packed right before our eyes, which added an authentic character to this place! not to mention the decor that showed the history of the place! The prices varied a lot depending on the items but the Signature Pies were reasonably proces - between 2.300-2.500 KRW 🍪 This bakery is unusual because it also serves as a tourist attraction, so you can see that they make sure that everything is done "for the public", but it is definitely worth going there for the iconic Choco Pies!!! 🤎🍫

Best bimbimbap i ever had ! Jeonju is the mothership of this famous Korean dish and this would be the best place to enjoy it. Had the raw beef taste one and it comes with many many side dishes. I love it where half way eating the service staff will come store it for you again by adding their famous soya bean paste with chili. Must visit. We had to take. Queue number from the cashier and waited outside.
Pris L — Google review
Jeonju famous local food - bibimbap. This restaurant is little out of main tourist area. There is no English menu or sign so might be korean / local place. Bibimbap was good with comes with stone pot + interesting sidedishes. We ordered seafood pancake as well. The taste seems it's microwaved. - taste was okay tho. If you want to visit i would recommend just bibimbap.
Eunice C — Google review
Best bibimbap restaurant in the area, better than the touristy famous Hanguk Jib. Family run restaurant with self made gochujang. You will find 3 generations of ladies running the place. Generous serving, very reasonable price, friendly service and very tasty food. 14 side dishes, rice served in iron cast pot, fermented soy bean soup and a kettle of barley water, all inclusive. Value for money and and you are not going to find a better bibimbap.
Lionel P — Google review
***This is my favorite bibimbap*** The meal includes 14side dishes and a soup as an accompaniment to the bibimbap. It really is a lot of food. Halfway through the meal someone will come ask if you want to add spicy sauce. Say yes and she will add an awesome green chili sauce and mix it in for you. I would say it is only mild to medium spicy. If I could only eat one bibimbap in Jeonju it would be at this restaurant.
Yu-Ting — Google review
How great! The best bibimbab restaurant ever. Can feel all ingredients in mouth and it goes crazy with kkaes ip or mug eun gi as recommended. Must try it with both side dishes. It has a kick. Hope I would get off some go chu jang.

One more best bibimbab shop in Jeonju with lots of side dishes and the staffs were really good. It is so close to family house restaurant. Even they taught us how to mix and eat the bibimbap. We have to go and book table, we need mobile number to receive or seat number. if you dont have mobile number you can approach them. Its always busy so plan accordingly. even you can book online. They also have vegetarian option. i recommend trying this one if you are at jeonju once.

Nambu Market, located in Jeonju, is the largest traditional market in the Jeollabuk Province and has been around for 200 years. Situated near the iconic 18th-century Pungnam Gate and the Jeonju Hanok Village, it offers a wide variety of goods including produce, handcrafted items, clothing, and everyday household products. The market is also a paradise for food lovers with its diverse range of traditional Korean street food and local snacks.
The Nambu night market at Jeonju is famous for street foods. It will be a good destination for street food lovers. The market is start from 5:00 pm. You can make a plan for your dinner with varities item here. I was almost fulled after trying some. The price is also reasonable. In most cases its around 6000 won which is lesser than any other places especially from Myangdong😃. If you visit Jeonju you can put it in your plan at afternoon or evening.
Kamrul H — Google review
Went to the night market, great food and lots of choice. There was a great atmosphere with lots of people all walking round. The beef noodles were great as was the deep fried octopus.
Heather D — Google review
Very lively both at night and during the day. In the morning -afternoon, it's a market selling various things such as vegs and fruits, banchan, kitchen utensils, clothes, wooden tools, flowers, plants and some cafes/ restaurants). At night (I believe only on Fridays and Saturdays) there's a night market, around 50 or so stalls in the middle. Tbh, the morning market is more interesting with authentic experience. The night market only sell modern Korean food, mosty sweet and deep-fried things.
Line S — Google review
2025.9.17 (Wed) I have to admit: I have seen many markets in Korea (Seoul, Busan, Jeju)…..this is the least lively. I came during the day, and midweek. The tourist office says it is “open”. I thot the redeeming factor is the bimbimbap. Even that eatery is closed 😅
L Y — Google review
It's really sad that I see some empty store fronts, especially for the ones outside. But I'm glad to see that there is still a lot of merchants that are able to make it through here. Not sure if like modern centers, do the merchants all pay the market, or does the transaction go to them directly? I also wonder if most of the restaurants here take credit card. If not, it's very limiting. Didn't buy anything, just walked through. BUT there's tons of stuff to get here.

Pungnammun Gate, also known as the South Gate, is a 600-year-old landmark in Jeonju, South Korea. It stands as the last remaining gate of the four that were once part of Jeonju's fortress walls. This ancient structure has survived turbulent times, including damage during Japanese invasions and fires during King Yeongjo's reign.
As I know this is a huge South gate near the main villages of Jeonju. It isn’t someplace you actually visit. Solemn place for prayers. Not allowed to take photos inside though. Im not sure if the sign says not to do photo shoots with the hanbok. I didn’t take any photos inside just to be sure. But outside the yard is a beautiful garden to take pictures.

Before coming here, I suggest you read up on Korea's Catholic history, how it started, how it spread, and the people who died for that cause. Look, I'm not a Catholic, but you have to know the history in order to realize the religious and regional under currents that play into today's Korean politics. Otherwise, this is "just another Catholic Church" where tourists still wearing hanbok frollick & prance around and taking glamour shots 'for the gram'. Another thing is, they actually let you go inside the main hall and pray. Check it out, it's got some nice pieces. I'm not religious, but hey, Pascal's wager says it doesn't hurt to pray for me becoming a better boyfriend to my girlfriend.

2025.9.16-17 I first saw this church in the evening. I was looking to visit the next day (a rainy day). Well I was wearing skorts and was denied entry by a sister. It has historical significance, especially those who were martyred for their faith.

Kalguksu restaurant
Veteran Kalguksu is a renowned spot in Jeonju, known for its simple yet delicious menu featuring only three items: kalguksu, spicy noodles, and dumplings. The milky broth of the kalguksu sets it apart from those found in Seoul. The restaurant's minimalistic approach to both its menu and service adds to its charm. Visitors praise the flavorful noodle soup and generous portions at affordable prices.
It’s amazing the food here, i specially recommend the cold soy bean noddles. Very very local and fast service. The dumplings and the noodles are the only thing in the menu but wow!!!!! Also a must try the spicy warm noodles with egg
Alejandra M — Google review
We ordered the Kalguksu and Jjolmyeon. The Kalguksu soup was delicious, it had perilla powder and seaweed o top. We both preferred the Jjolmyeon, the noodles were chewy with nice fresh cabbage, zucchini topping and the red pepper sauce just made it more flavourful. :)
Michaela W — Google review
I don’t understand why this place only has a 3,7/5. The kalguksu is the best I’ve had in Korea so far. It’s super tasty with lots of spices and the broth is thick and contains an egg which makes it even more ‘full’. The staff isn’t rude or anything, it was just a bit weird that when she brought over my order the only thing she said was ‘pay now’… Anyway, loved the food and that’s what I came for.
Anouk K — Google review
Patronised the moment it opened at 9am, but there were a few patrons already. We ordered kalguksu and meat dumpling. You can choose to have mixed dumpling if you wished to try both meat and kimchi. The soup was so savory and flavourful. Thinly skinned mandu reminded me of xiaolongbao. Equally good. Dont be startled, a gentle reminder; to pay the moment food is served, accept both cash or card.
Pei — Google review
Very tasty anchovy soup. Noodle texture is good, but too much noodles. Dumpling good too. First restaurant that does not serve kimchi.

Jjolmyeom cold noodles was just refreshing. The soy bean sprouts and vegetables were crunchy. Dumplings also must try. Kalguksu noodles bland taste mixed with perilla seed, seaweed, egg soup is an unique experience

Food was delicious. The mangdu (dumplings) were fresh. The kalguksu was a mouth watering bowl. It left you feeling a bit lighter after eaten so much meaty meals during our stay. The price for both mangdu and kalguksu was KRW 17,000. The service was average but efficient. I lower my expectations on hospitality after first few days in South Korea. I just wish I have enough time to try the Hanok gimbab on the same street.

If you're a fan of Korean cuisine and find yourself in the area, be sure to check out 조점례남문피순대. Tucked away in a local market, this spot is renowned for its flavorful sundae soup. Unlike other places, their black sausages are generously filled with meat and served with noodles.
The Jeonju experience wouldn't be complete without trying their famous 피순대 in the market. A two-page menu with only four dishes you can choose among. That's how much they trust their product and they're not wrong. Brilliant.

Only a handful of items on the menu, mainly soups with blood sausage. I've never had that before anywhere but I understand now why they've only had these on the menu for decades. The soup was perfection! Incredible value too 👍🏼
Ajay A — Google review
Super delicious hand made sundae and sundae kukbap! I absolutely loved it, the chillies are super spicy so be careful! I loved the sauce on the table to dip the sundae. Everything was super good and I still find myself craving it whenever I think about it.
Alexandra V — Google review
The food's delicious. They'll hand you a menu, and they're great with customers. It's good for foreigners too.

Excellent, really good location to Taste blood sausage and you can make your dish Nice and spicy
Tom B — Google review
I’m so sorry but the stall had a really strong smell, the food was also too strong for me and my wife, I thought it was just me but locals around didn’t seem to finish any dish too
Waffles X — Google review
I wanted to try this meal and I wasnt dissapointed. I wouldnt normally eat pig offal due to past experience but this was very good indeed. No nasty smell or flavour, very clean. The blood sausage reminded me slightly of blood sausage at home. Seamed a lot more blood in it than ones Ive tried in markets before, this was much higher quality and very tasty. The soup stock was really nice. Probably the most filling meal Ive encountered in Korea so far. Thank you
J — Google review
It's a great place for a foodie. I recommend the Sundae Guk, a type of Blood Sausage Soup, it's the best. Enough spice for a little kick but not to spicy.

Restaurant
Sinbaengi Kimchi is a charming restaurant located in Hanok Village, offering an authentic and delightful dining experience. The traditional hanok-style building provides a serene view of the garden, creating a comfortable atmosphere for visitors. The friendly staff welcomes guests with an English menu available for convenience. Known for its exceptional bibimbap, the restaurant also boasts a variety of homemade kimchi, including radish, spinach, and classic cabbage options that are bursting with flavor.
Best 김치전 I’ve ever eaten! The 비빔밥 was also delicious! Classic korean restaurant, super nice owner. Will go back for sure!
Andrea — Google review
I'm confused about the low reviews here. This place was recommended by our hanok host and it was lovely. The location is pretty and we had bibimbap and sprout soup which both tasted very fresh, the kimchi was very delicious and the owners were kind. Kimchi jeon was yummy too
MartinaDB — Google review
We joined a kimchi workshop here and had an amazing time! The experience started with a tasting of different types of kimchi, which was both fun and delicious. After that, we rolled up our sleeves and made our own kimchi, while also receiving the complete recipe to take home. We even learned how to prepare kimchi pancakes and tried Korean rice wine. Everything - workshop, food and drinks, was included. The space was very clean, and the hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended — just be sure to book in advance to secure a spot!

Master of kimchi place if u have interested try this soup here is not bad. Tbh this soup taste is almost similar everywhere in Korea(not crazy good or bad) at least here's master of kimchi place so worthy
Lo M — Google review
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Our best dinner in Korea was at Sinbaengi Kimchi! The kimchi was unbelievably delicious, bursting with fresh, balanced flavors. The bean sprouts and rice soup were absolutely heavenly, and the atmosphere was beautiful and relaxing. But what truly made the experience unforgettable was the service — the staff treated our family with such kindness and warmth that we felt right at home. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Jeonju!
Nick H — Google review
The white kimchi rice porridge is worth a Michelin star. This delicate porridge balances the sweet starch with the sour kimchi in a deep broth with egg. Great restraint in ingredients allows the simple rice and sprouts to shine.

Restaurant
Jongno Hall is a traditional Korean restaurant known for its delicious bibimbap. It's recommended to arrive before noon to avoid long lines, and it's helpful to understand Korean or use a translator as there is no English menu. The food, especially the kimchi, is highly praised, and the bibimbap comes with a flavorful sauce made from fresh ingredients. The restaurant offers a clean and pleasant dining space with robot waiters for locals and attentive service for foreign customers.
This has to be my favourite meal in Korea thus far! So good. I had the bibimbap Jeonju style which is a must! You have to get the Tteok-galbi as well. It was so good! Slightly more expensive as I was a single diner but well worth it! Food was so quick as well
Taylor A — Google review
They can make your bibimbap and banchans vegetarian or vegan upon request. However, it wasn't the best bibimbap we tried, you can find better in Jeonju.
Kasica A — Google review
Ordered Tteok-Galbi and bibimbap. Both tastes pretty good. Price is a bit on the high side. Service is ok only.
Mei C — Google review
You have not been to Jeonju if you have not tried Bibimbap. Put this into your must-eat-list when you come to Jeonju, and their bibimbap by far was the best i have had during my entire 10 days of Korea trip. We also ordered the tteok galbi served on the sizzling plate, it was truly amazing! Wish i could turn back time and go back there again! Highly recommended.
Brenda — Google review
Went there on a Tuesday noon for early lunch. Try to be there before 12 as a line will start to form for waiting. You need to at least read Korean and understand it or use a translator as if there is no English menu. The food was super good and the kimchi was amazing! I do recommend the bibimbap for sure! And don’t forget to have some free coffee located near the cashier after you pay for your meal!
Deena A — Google review
It was suggested by my hanok host after I asked him. The space was clean and pleasant. There were some robot waiters for the korean people, but the ladies were assisting with waiting for the couple of foreign customers there. Most importantly, the food (Jeonju bibimbap and side dishes) was excellent, only for ₩12,000 (less than €9).
I Z — Google review
The best bibimbap I had so far in Korea! Friendly staff and very flexible: they made one for my wife with cooked meat and fried egg instead of raw. They even have a robot-waitress! Highly recommend if you want to try an authentic bibimbap.
John B — Google review
This place was recommended to me by a local resident for their traditional Jeonju Bibimbap. For someone who is familiar with korean food i recommend the raw beef bibimbap, but if you are not into raw beef go for their normal bibimbap. Its all in their sauce really, very fresh ingredients and a healthy meal to carry on your tours.

If you're looking for an authentic Korean dining experience, look no further than 전라도음식이야기. This restaurant offers the traditional Hanjeongsik, a full-course meal featuring a variety of savory side dishes like japchae, kimchi, and beef bulgogi. The epic spread is best enjoyed with a group of 3-4 diners.
This is a very nice restaurant with brick walls and wooden floors. There are shared rooms for large groups and private rooms for those who want privacy. Each floor has its own toilet. The food here is delicious, very easy to eat. The side dishes are diverse and extremely attractive. Staff are friendly and very enthusiastic. Please book a table in advance so the restaurant can prepare more carefully. I really like this restaurant. Will definitely come back it given the chance. You should try it.

We had a group dinner for foreigners at this restaurant, which was picked precisely for the food experience. Jeolla is famous for its food and the variety of side dishes. The food was ok but it could have been better for the amount of money one has to pay per meniu. The staff was a bit tired and unfriendly since we were the last customers. Overall, I had expected more from a restaurant that is specialized in serving Hanjeongsic ( it is a Korean-style full-course meal characterized by the array of small banchan plates in varied colours).
Melline G — Google review
Horrible. After looking at blogs and seeing posts about famous celebrities visiting, we were sorely disappointed with their food. For the money, the quality of the food and taste was way off.

(Translated by Google) I came to Jeonju for a summer vacation with a friend who lives out of town, and found this place after searching for it. The atmosphere, both inside and out, is quite upscale. The staff are polite and attentive. The portions and sides are generous enough to satisfy. The clean and neat atmosphere is perfect! However, the taste... was a bit disappointing for my taste. Please keep in mind that this is just my personal preference. (Translated by Google) Going to a Korean restaurant, you'd expect a colorful yet clean menu and a Korean meal (a full Korean table). But... We ordered a Korean meal for 30,000 won per person. The main dishes were bulgogi, boiled pork, and tteokgalbi (grilled short ribs). The rest of the main dishes were just average side dishes. While the taste is a matter of personal preference, if you go expecting Korean cuisine, you'll likely be very disappointed. The six side dishes and soybean paste stew were bland. The braised mackerel served with rice was the best. I don't know when the kimchi was made, but the rice was well below its optimal temperature, making it taste like cold rice. Zoo
Jeonju Zoo, located just a kilometer away from Deokjin Park in Jeonju city, South Korea, has been open since 1978 and is home to over 670 animals including tigers, lions, giraffes, rhinos, camels, and hippos. The zoo also features a small amusement park and sports facilities like soccer and volleyball courts. It's a great place for families with kids as there are baby strollers available and games for children to enjoy.
One of the nice place in Jeonju for kids to time pass, cheap and best place with lots of animas, now they are doing some renovation so not able to see hippo and giraffe, etc., lots of things to explore they have baby stroller for kids, they also have games for kids. nice canteen where you can have nice food. good parking out side the park good to reach by bus and taxi. Lots of animals from different places. recommend this if you have kids.
Muthukumar T — Google review
Jeonju Zoo is the third-largest zoo in South Korea, following Seoul Land Zoo as the largest and Everland Zootopia as the second. Despite its scale, the zoo is not very well-known even among Koreans. This is likely due to Jeonju’s limited recognition and accessibility as a travel destination. The zoo itself is very affordable, offers plenty of parking spaces, and provides a comfortable atmosphere as the animals are housed in spacious enclosures. However, if asked whether Jeonju Zoo is a must-visit, it falls short in that regard, which is a notable downside.

Highly recommend! Overall it's an pretty good zoo. The price is super low as of writing 1300 Won per person plus 1000 won for parking. The zoo is actually pretty large! There are a pretty large variety of animals and small aquarium too! The zoo is also a pretty good park and has rides. Location is great right near downtown.

Nice place, cheap entrance fee, many animals, but if you go very hot time if sun is hot some animals hide and some place reflect the light because of glass i can’t see well. This place not too big so good to come with child and picnic, but the weekend too much people and no parking space. When i was there i saw some poor animals look not good, poor health i hope now they are good.

Deokjin Park, located in Jeonju, is a serene and picturesque garden known for its stunning lotus flowers adorning the large natural pond. The park features a decorative pagoda that can be accessed by crossing a wooden bridge, adding to its charm. Spanning over 13,000 square meters, this oasis within the city offers a tranquil ambiance and lush greenery. During the summer months, visitors flock to witness the beautiful lotus flowers in full bloom.
This is the most exquisite park I’ve ever seen. What an experience it was to see all the lotus leaves and a couple of flowers in bloom.

It was being fully renovated (8th March '25) but we couldn't find any information on that beforehand so we basically went here to see a pile of soil. You can go a little further into the park but the bridge is closed for a big part.

This park is a lovely place to walk around. The main draw for me was the library in the middle of the pond. The library is gorgeous, built in a traditional hanok style with books focusing on Korea and Jeonju in particular. The library is currently open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is a wonderful place to study or just take a quiet break.

I have been there 2 times~ First, I went in may 2020 and there was a lot of construction…. But, we went there over the summer 2023 for the lotus blossoms at the end of July! The construction has made the park look a lot better and more fun for people to walk around. There’s a waterfall, some jungle gyms, and lots of places to relax!

Deokjin Park was beautiful! We visited the park three times. The view from the top is even more beautiful so search for “Cafe Hanol” if you are interested. The path around the park is well-maintained and very safe for everyone. Saw many people taking photos and enjoying their drinks. I also recommend taking a walk at sunset because the area lights up. Strongly recommend!

Beautiful and English friendly! I was here wayyy longer than intended because there was so much to see. Very interesting how the theaters here have a lot of arcades and game machines to bring in the kiddos. This theater even features a board game room, which is pretty neat. Then right to the other side of the ticket office, is the Bodyfriend Lounge. Take that in for a bit before you accidentally misread it. This is where a couple of massage chairs are located, where you can pay for 10 minutes of a massage. Tons of movies, lots to watch too. Interesting thing for the film festival though, the entrance is where you enter from, BUT they open up the emergency exit when the movie is done playing to create a smooth one-way flow of people out the doors. Also, the layout of certain theaters in here, may be slightly different than what is show when you pre-order tickets. If you get the A7 seat, expecting one side to be open, you may find yourself enclosed by a railing, FYI.
龔振勝 — Google review
Quite a large mainstream theater. Though it seems less lively than CGV. The towering complex has about the same amount of screens, it just takes longer either by riding escalators or waiting on an elevator. Given that CGV is nearby and offers better accomadtions and has a more intuitive design, it's probably better to go there instead.

2025.9.16 Tues Our first main meal in Jeonju. Recommended by our hotel’s receptionist. His personal favourite. We later found out it is a famous restaurant. It is delicious but since bibimbap is birthed in JeonJu…..i expected more. I have tasted better bimbimbap. We also later found out that it is expensive by local standards. Bec it only sells bimbimbap, we had to order 2 sets and were completely stuffed.

I came to the restaurant because the reviews were very high, as well as the restaurant is quite famous in this place. We arrived at lunch time, the shop did not have any instructions on how to go up to the shop. At lunch time, the restaurant is quite empty, the staff are not friendly but still do their job very well. The food is delicious and the panchan is varied. The serving size is large, 1 portion is enough for 2 people.

We had fun, and the bike lane is a bit far, so ready your biking skills 😉. And oh, beforehand the takeoff look where the camera is, it is on the right side. So you can have a better picture (not like us). The picture is printed after the ride, and it costs 7,000 won only! The ride only takes about 10 to 20 minutes. i guess it depends on how you ride the bike. The ticket is much cheaper online.

In all honesty, it's underwhelming and boring. Kids who are now attuned to ipads, video games, etc will probably be bored after 2 minutes. There isn't anything of value or beauty to look at as you pedal. Just some light gimmicks in the tunnels. Going mid day during the summer is a mistake. You will cook alive. I suppose it would be more fun in a group.
John-Henry K — Google review
Very short rail bike experience (about 7km both ways) but appreciated that the owners have put in effort to do up the route with cute little signs and decorations. Scenery isn’t that breathtaking either, but you do get to see the KTX train zipping past beside you occasionally Not really worth the ticket price unless this is the only rail bike experience you’re going to have in Korea.

It takes 30 minutes in total. Not really hard working for this activity at all. The only thing is that this place can be a bit far from jeonju hanok village(the center of the city), so better to take a bus or a taxi to get here. Or drive on your own. :)

This place holds good memories for me and my husband. We took the tram to see the view. May be a bit tired but happy. There were both smiles and laughter, taking turns riding bicycles having fun.

Was a fun activities with the kids. Very tiring cycling the first 20-30mins. On the return it's a slight downhill, and so no need to cycle. Loud music blasting through the ride, with light show thru the tunnel. Very fun.

Hangugjib Bibimbap is a traditional family-style restaurant located at Eojin-gil 119, open every day from 10.30 a.m. The place is highly recommended by YouTubers and Hanok owners and is known as a Michelin Star Bibimbap restaurant. It offers a spacious premise with a carpark and backyard, providing an authentic home-cooked feel. The menu includes both hot and cold options, with the hot bibimbap being particularly popular.
Before heading to Jeonju Hanok Village, we stopped by this Jeonju bibimbap restaurant. We ordered the 3-person set with yukhoe (beef tartare) and yukjeon (pan-fried beef slices). The portions were generous, and the yukhoe in particular was absolutely delicious.
Michelle Y — Google review
The food was good, however the service was really bad. In the middel of our dinner they forced us to pay the bill already and the AC was turned off since they wanted the customers out 40min before the closing time of the kitchen. It is clear this restaurant, once famous because they served the first bibimbap, now is looking customers that come eat, pay and get out as fast as possible. A pity

The mains were simple, yet delicious. The side dishes were also very tasty, except the bean sprout soup or whatever it was. That didn't have much flavour, but everything else was great. My seafood pancake could have done with maybe another minute or so of cooking because some bits tasted a tiny bit undercooked and had that raw flour flavour. In total I paid 30,000 won. I want to go back to try the raw beef bibimbap. I left feeling full and satisfied.

Ordered the dolsot bibimbap. Tasted healthy and fine. Vegetables looked very fresh. The air circulation inside the restaurant was kind of smokey. I ate it once but don’t think I would return. They validate parking for one hour.

It made the Michelin guide for a reason. Pretty great bibimbap, the pancake and beef are quite tasty also. The atmosphere is open and vibrant, simple yet traditional. We had no issues getting a table as walk-ins.
Graeme M — Google review
The waiter accommodated our request and made the Dolsot Bibimbap vegetarian for us. They also refilled the side dishes, which were just as tasty as the bibimbap. I would definitely come back. Highly recommend to vegetarian and vegans 🌱 🥑 who want to enjoy bibimbap!

Korean traditional full course meal restaurant
Gogung Suragan is a branch of the renowned bibimbap restaurant Gogung, located in Jeonju Hanok Village. The restaurant offers delicious bibimbap made with rice cooked in cow-bone broth, locally-grown bean sprouts, marinated beef, fresh vegetables, and homemade red chili pepper paste. Despite being cheaper than the main branch, the quality of the bibimbap remains consistent.
The food is delicious and the restaurant is beautiful, I like it

Very efficient service (less than 2 min but I was by myself) I took the traditional bibimbap, it’s full of different ingredients and taste quite good. I do prefer a cold bibimbap so that’s not the best I had but worth a try if you’re in Jeonju. The sides dishes were very good and generous. (Sorry I forgot to take a pic before mixing hehe)

A famous bibimbap restaurant in Jeonju. If you are looking for a clean restaurant to serve guests, this would be a good choice. It is worth a visit.
Jung-Woo C — Google review
Bibimbap is one of the most popular Korean food, often seen as the most famous traditional one, foreigners love it The city of Jeonju is said to be the birthplace of it And Gogung is one of the oldest and most famous restaurants serving it, having it as their specialty even (they've since then opened another one in Seoul) Knowing that, it was a safe bet indeed And it did deliver, it was yummy, be it before I would mix it or after doing so... to the point that I finished it all, not even leaving a single grain of rice haha And I also finished most of the side dishes (only a couple were a bit too spicy for me - who have a low tolerance - but more than half weren't, all good), that included bean sprouts soup Service was immediate (I went there on a weekday 6PM), food was prepared in advance The place is big. You can even find a small shop for typical good and drinks to take out There is food models on display in case you didn't have any idea of that to expect But also the menu has clear pics and is bilingual The restaurant is located right by beautiful Deokjin Park, very convenient after a stroll there Definitely recommended!

My airbnb was about a half mile from here so my wife and I went here a few times. Everyone knows that Jeonju is the city of “Bibimbap” and this is the most popular place that we could think of. (My wife is from Jeonju) I tried both Dolsot (hot pot) and the regular bibimbap. Both are so extremely goood. The side dishes are all great too. Be sure to grab a plum tea before you go.
Benjamin Y — Google review
Came here during lunch hours right when they opened at 11. The restaurant became full quickly but also people ate much faster than us. We got the traditional raw beef bibimbap and seafood pancake. The bibimbap was good but it was different than what I’ve had in the past. The flavor was much more mild. Unfortunately the raw beef flavor wasn’t very strong but it was still good for what it was. The seafood pancake was also a different style that I’ve had before. This had layer of egg on top of it. Never had egg in my seafood pancake before so that was unique. They also have a self service drink area with tea, plum juice, coffee, etc. Also, you can refill your own side dishes. Overall, the experience was good and really enjoyed it.

I tried several bibimbap restaurant while my stay in Jeonju, and I personally think their Jeonju Bibimbap is the best. Besides, I also ordered their minched meat but taste is fine. My Dad ordered their Bulgogi bibimbap and he likes it best. Restaurany is easy to find, right along the main road of the touristy aisle. Really enjoyed my lunch here

If you're looking for the best bibimbap in Jeonju, look no further. Gogung can be quite packed during the day with lines all the way into the courtyard. Inside, they serve their signature bibimbap, in particular with the raw beef tartare.

Beautiful gazebo at night when we visited. It's not very big so the tables are limited. However, there was a group of young people (probably locals) who brought in food and drinks to dine here. That's actually really nice because you have the sound of the river and the crickets as background. Lights come from the lamposts and the hazy spotlight surrounding Cheongyeollu. Jaman Mural Village in Jeonju, South Korea is a picturesque cluster of hillside houses and narrow passageways adorned with a variety of anime-style murals. While Busan's Gamcheon often gets the spotlight for its artistic charm, Jaman Mural Village offers its own outdoor art gallery that shouldn't be overlooked.

Most murals are very tired. There are a couple of cafés at the tidier end that work hard to entertain. A nice experience, the old school villages need to be seen and appreciated in comparison to the super densely packed islands of blocks of flats in the cities.

L Y — Google review
Super funky place to visit if you're in Jeonju / the Hanok village. You have beautiful views of the surrounding landscape, nice alleyways and coffee shops, too. The murals are also very quirky and great for pics!! Went during the week in the late morning and it was really quiet!
Olivia M — Google review
Beautiful village. Not much to do except view the murals.
Rachel R — Google review
Expected the place to be in better condition and pieces give the place character. Most murals are old, houses dilapidated but still worth the walk through.
Gdr — Google review
It's quiet but still good to visit and take some pictures there. It was raining when I visited but the pictures still came out good haha. It is located near the Hanok Village so you can have a short visit here when you are going to Jeonju Hanok Village.

Jeonmang | Cafe & Guesthouse is a must-visit spot in Jeonju Hanok Village, offering mesmerizing views of the traditional houses. The beautifully decorated bar on the two upper floors provides outstanding panoramic views, making it perfect for capturing memories and enjoying the scenery. Whether you visit during sunset or at night, the rooftop seating offers a great vantage point to admire the village roofs and lighted streets without any uphill climb.
A nice Cafe, I had a beer (San Miguel)... the view on the roof top is beautiful. Desserts look delicious 🫰🏻✨ a must in Jeonju.

Jeonmang has tasty espresso drinks and a fantastic view of the Hanok Village! The interior is also cozy in case the weather is bad!
Alexander W — Google review
A super coffee shop with a wonderful view over Hanok Village. The coffee taste was amazing.
Jürgen M — Google review
Nestled in a cozy corner with a breathtaking view, this charming café is the perfect tea stop. The warm, inviting ambiance and the picturesque surroundings make it an ideal spot for relaxation. A must-visit around Jeonju area.
Shella — Google review
The view of the rooftop is spectacular, especially for sunsets. They serve coffee in paper cups, which can be a turn-off point for some people like me, but overall I would rate this place, including the coffee, high.
Elnur K — Google review
Came here for the view above all else. It has a rooftop seating with a great view of Hanok Village and it’s surrounding area. Ordered the cafe latte which was ok but would be better if it’s hotter. The cake I had was a bit dry. A nice place to chill and soak in the view.
Jet Y — Google review
As mentioned in almost all reviews- great place for the view and to get great photos but drinks are pricy (6000-8000) and the tiramisu was not worth the 7000 won price.
Gdr — Google review
I went there just before sunset. I ordered hot tea and red velvet cake, then sat on the rooftop. It’s cold and windy, but I great spot to see sunset and Jeonju Hanok Village’s view. It’s a decent drink and cake. I also love the inside interior, it’s beautiful. You should go there if you visit Jeonju :)

Banya Dolsotbap

Korean restaurant
Banya Dolsotbap, also known as hot pot rice, is a popular dish originating from Jeonju. This flavorful meal consists of steaming white rice topped with an assortment of vegetables, mushrooms, and ginseng. The ingredients are mixed in a hot dolsot bowl to create a delicious combination of rich and interesting flavors. One can visit renowned restaurants to savor this renowned dish that is favored by locals and seasoned with tasty soy sauce.
One of great Bibimbab restaurant in Jeon ju. Hot Stone pot Bibimbab with flavour. Great atmosphere, all dishes with full flavour. Strongly recommend.
Roy B — Google review
Worth travelling to this renowned restaurant to try dolsotbap. Filled with locals, so you know the food is good. I liked how you season the rice on your own with their soy sauce, which is surprisingly tasty (not just salty).
Alfred S — Google review
I had bibimbap at this restaurant, and I think it’s a really healthy dish. It contains a variety of seasoned vegetables and is rich in nutrients, which is good for the body. Since it was served in a hot stone bowl, it stayed warm and tasted even better. As it’s a famous dish from Jeonju, it felt even more special.
Olivia L — Google review
Amazing food with lots of rich and interesting flavors. The main dish had a slightly earthy tasty and it paired well with the sauce provided (soy based with added peppers, sesame, and veggies mixed in; pictured next to the potato in the picture). The kimchi had a wonderful spice to it and it was also very different from other kimchi I've had around town (so far my favorite kimchi). On the same plate as the kimchi was a stringy green vegetable with a savory/salty profile that went well mixed in the clay pot. the root served on a small grill was unique in texture and taste: it popped not unlike a leafy herb or pepper (mint/basil) but still held a consistent earthy flavor closer to tumeric than a beet. The potato was perfect: gentle sweetness and a tinge of tangy and salty. The pepper was closer to a cucumber and it was served with a miso-tasting dip. The most interesting item was the clear noodle in an almost yogurt like purple-grey sauce. It was slightly tangy and sweet, and I could not put it down. The darker leaf reminded me of hoja santa, a very nice treat. The service and presentation were both terrific as well. We were assured that everything was all plant based/vegan/vegetarian unless meat or fish was specifically ordered. The staff member we talked to happen to be an English teacher and was willing to answer all of our food related questions.
Christian M — Google review
Traditional dish. Recommended by a native of Jeonju.
Yanfei L — Google review
I'm not sure why this place is well-known. Maybe uniqueness plus authenticity. Respect the ingredients from organic farms. However, it is simply too pricy, and I couldn't enjoy brown rice soup (누룽지) after the stone earthware (돌솥) because they don't serve you warm water and a lid - meaning they expect you to leave quickly. Many people would visit once but rarely twice, I guess.
Sungsoo L — Google review
It was ok. Don't know what the fuss is about. Their kimchi works wonders in your mouth. But not the main menu.

Drawing was harder than I thought, so Ryan and Chun-sik drew it, but the rest were messed up, so I just poured all the chocolate water... haha. They made 5 pieces per person and let the chocolate water harden in the refrigerator. They gave it to me. When I got home, I put it in the refrigerator and ate it. It was delicious haha. I waited in the waiting area below for more than 30 minutes and went up because the team in front of me was finished, but they told me I couldn't come 20 minutes late? Haha. I was told to wait at the bottom, so I waited and explained that the team in front of me had finished so I went up, but they were stubborn and told me to wait until the next time. What are you telling me to do when I’m not ready? If this is the case, why do you take phone reservations? This is my first time coming to Jeonju and seeing a place as absurd as this. If anyone tells you to go, stop them. In particular, the person conducting the experience on the second floor is very harsh. Hawaiian Recipe is a small restaurant that offers a variety of rotating curries, with bibimbap always on the menu. The curries draw inspiration from Japanese, Thai, and original flavors. The restaurant can accommodate dietary restrictions with advance notice for vegan or vegetarian options. With a handwritten menu at the door, the place promises an exceptional dining experience. Currently offering bibimbap and curry dishes, Hawaiian Recipe ensures quality in its limited offerings.
The meatball curry I had here was one of the best things I've eaten in Korea. Rich flavours, beautiful plating and not very expensive at all. Service was supremely friendly and the restaurant is very cozy. A rare but very easy 5/5 on all fronts.

(Translated by Google) These days, they are popping up in different neighborhoods, so I went there when I was curious. At 1,500 won per plate, it is good value for money. I went on a Sunday evening and it was full of people. We sat down right away, but There was a waiting line later. I didn't know it was so popular, The seasoning of the rice is appropriate, and the amount of rice is also appropriate. However, it is not moist and sticky and it is a mechanical rice, so it is a shame. FlatfishㅡSea breamㅡSalmonㅡTunaㅡSwordfishㅡSalmon, etc. The best live fish was sea bream, and salmon was also of good quality. Two pieces of flounder are also priced at 1,500 won, so it's great value for money. I enjoyed the live fish cake sushi the most. Live fish seems to use astrological words the most, All mini udon noodles are 1,500 won, good for mouth-watering. What's disappointing is that they don't put many types of live fish on the rail. Lots of fried food, macarons, cakes, etc. Of course, if you order it separately, we will make it for you. One customer even loudly asked for some live fish. The overall opinion is that there is a legend that the price of beef came up after eating it without any hesitation because it was cheap...
