Jeonju Hanok Village is a cultural village in South Korea featuring over 800 traditional wooden houses known as hanoks. The village is home to various guesthouses, restaurants, cafes, and traditional clothing rental shops. Visitors can experience the cobblestone lanes and unique architecture of the village while enjoying octopus grills at dusk. The attraction is easily accessible by taking bus 974 or 976 from Jeonju National Palace headquarters.
I really enjoy Jeonju and this Hanok village area is the heart and soul of the city. There are many great stores and the food is amazing. It just has a great vibe. There is lots to see for kids as well. There are historical sites like the Portrait Museum which was very worthwhile to see, where you can see it is literally the birthplace of the Joseon dynasty. Definitely visit the palace grounds. If you like theatrical food performances, visit King Bibim at Bibim Sori. There is also a beautiful catholic church to see which tells about the many Korean saints who have died over the years as martyrs.

Beautiful place, even if it's a bit commercial. Lots of unique stores, cafes, etc. It gets quite crowded but it's still very nice, it has a cozy vibe. Many locals visit it.
Adriana M — Google review
2025.9.16-17 We spent 2 nights in Jeon-Ju to soak up the this UNESCO historic village’s atmosphere. On a weekday…to avoid the crowds. It rained the 2nd day. So we were fortunate to catch the sunset on the 1st day. Our hotel overlooked the village. So beautiful. In the evening, it’s even prettier and romantic. While I am disappointed with the commercialisation (lots of Hanbok rentals, loud pop music being played, restaurants, souvenir shops), I realised it is absolutely necessary to sustain the site. As it is, there are many shops that closed with signages for rental. I personally prefer this to Bukcheon. It’s quaint and easier to walk (flat as opposed to hilly). Lots of historical and Confucian significance. There’s even a 600 year old gingko tree. Many of the restaurants here are as reasonably priced as the ones outside the village. Even for a non-history buff, I would gladly return to this village again.
L Y — Google review
Nice to go to on weekdays. A bit crowded at weekends and public holidays. Some good eating places and lots of souvenir shops. Recommend the shrine and the associated museum. If you're feeling brave you can walk around in traditional Korean costume!
Christopher S — Google review
Visiting Hanok Village was certainly a pleasant experience in spite of the overtly touristy vibe. However, it the neighborhoods immediately surrounding Hanok Village proved as interesting, if not more so, than the village itself.
Reginald W — Google review
I’ve visited Jeonju more than 10 times, and it never gets old! The Jeonju Hanok Village is beautiful — full of delicious local food, charming traditional houses, and fun activities to enjoy. This place is popular among both locals and tourists. Many visitors rent hanbok, which makes the whole atmosphere even more charming — it truly feels like stepping back into the Joseon era. A must-visit spot if you want to experience traditional Korean culture and take beautiful photos in Jeonju Hanok Village! 📸 If you prefer a calm and peaceful hanok experience, go to Andong. But if you like a lively, bustling atmosphere with lots to explore, Jeonju is the place for you. A one-day trip is doable, but it can be tiring with the travel back and forth. I highly recommend staying overnight in a hanok for the full experience. You can explore the Hanok Village, nearby hills, and the Nambu Market — there’s so much to see and taste here!
Vee — Google review
Jeonju is simply breathtaking place and far beyond my expectations. Super easy to get around on foot, bike or snoopy scooter, plenty of food, coffee and stuff do check out for the kids Must do when in SK

Gyeonggijeon Shrine, located in Jeonju, South Korea, is a significant cultural and historical site that holds the legacies of the Joseon dynasty. Built in 1410 to enshrine King Taejo, the founder of the dynasty, it features history exhibits and royal portraits. The shrine is a popular filming location for period dramas and movies due to its historical significance. Additionally, visitors can explore small museums nearby such as the Traditional Wine Museum.
The Shrine is a well-preserved historical site. It is surrounded by traditional architecture, beautiful gardens, and peaceful walking paths. The site is well-maintained and provides good photo opportunities. Moreover, the museum in the complex is also quite interesting and has different activities specially for kids.

Our visit here was peaceful and relaxed. It turned out to be a far more serene setting than expected and our visit was further enhanced by a chance opportunity to witness part of an annual eagle worship ceremony held only once a year.
Reginald W — Google review
Visited early November. The autumn colours here were amazing esp the vibrant yellow ginkgo trees. This required a small entrance fee, but trust me, worth every penny. The surrounding worth walking both day and night, great place to stroll around and take in the hanok vibes.
Pei — Google review
Nice. Not too many people. The buildings look like many other palaces, can't really enter any building, just like any other palace, but this place doesn't have many chambers to enter anyway. 3k won entry ticket. Many trees. Clean toilets. Interesting museum at the back with no extra cost. Spare 1 hour here.
Line S — Google review
It was quite nice, but I expected more. The entrance fee was 3,000 won. Compared to other attractions, that's quite a lot for what it offers. We tried three Western credit cards, but none were accepted. That's a bit low for such a touristy place. June 2025
O. K — Google review
Nice views from front gate. They don't want people to take pictures inside. The Shrine was about to close when I arrived.
Hayes W — Google review
Really nice shrine to visit while you are in Jeonju. Gives you all the history of the shine and area while you are there, as well as some fantastic Royal Portraits. Well, it was worth a visit and was only 3000₩ to enter.

Jeonju Hyanggyo is a well-preserved Confucian school complex from the Joseon era, featuring several historic buildings surrounded by majestic ginkgo trees. Established in 1354 during the Koryo Dynasty, this educational institution has over 650 years of history and tradition. The site includes significant structures like Daeseongjeon, Gyeseongsa, Myungryoondang, Dongjae, and Seojae.
Historic school. It's free and you walk around and there are interpretive trail that talks about each building and the history around the area.
Town T — Google review
This is a historical site with several huge ginkgo trees that have lasted hundreds of years. In autumn, the ginkgo leaves turn yellow and fall, covering the ground with a golden carpet, which is very beautiful. I am very happy to have the opportunity to come here and enjoy it during this golden season.
Wendy L — Google review
This was where the local elites used to go to school, and apparently they still advertise traditional Confucian teachings. That's totally cool!
龔振勝 — Google review
Beautiful place where you can admire old Korean architecture. It is a place where scholars would live and study and where they still hold lectures nowadays.
Alexandra V — Google review
One of the most zen area I visited whilst in Jeonju. There's not much to see there but you can really nice photos here when the grounds are littered with golden leaves from the gingko trees in the months of late autumn. Beautiful gingko trees that are a hundreds of years old. And close by are all picturesque spots.
Vonne L — Google review
Old Confucian school in Jeonju. You should visit this place since there is big tree where you can take beautiful photo during spring and autumn. Must do while in Jeonju
Sivansak N — Google review
Definitely worth the 3000 won. But not a whole lot to see. It is sad how much of Korea's history has been destroyed. This place does a good job though.

I like this old joseon era school. Nice to stroll around, take in the serene atmosphere, and admire the old architecture and ancient trees. Makes a nice stop, after visiting the mural village and omokdae.

Omokdae, located in Jeonju Hanok Village, is a hilltop lookout offering stunning views of the traditional Korean houses below. It holds historical significance as it is believed to be where King Taejo, the first king of the Joseon Dynasty, celebrated his victory against Japanese invaders. The site features a tablet with inscriptions by King Gojong and a pavilion house dating back to 1900.
It's beautiful both during the day and at night. During the day, you can enjoy the view of the Hanok village roofs, while at night, you can admire the city lights from Omokdae. The area is illuminated with floodlights, creating a charming atmosphere. It's a great spot for a short hike as well.
J P — Google review
coming here to see filming locations (2521) but found this beautiful traditional village. The area was clean and well build both in modern and traditional style. Was strolling around and found traditional well too 😊 everywhere in Jeonju such a magical for those who wanna escape from Seoul 🩷

Really nice viewing point of the Hanok village. No tickets necessary, just go up the stairs.
Mario — Google review
It's a bit of a hike to get to Omokdae. At the top, many people were resting inside as they were tired from the hike. What we enjoyed more was the view of the told town from the top. On a sunny day, it's very nice and good photogenic
Katethip V — Google review
The short path in the green hill through which I had to hike to get here, was good as well. I was waiting for a while, only until the sun set, but missed the peak photo time... Anyhow, the flamingo pinky sunset sky was so gorgeous, I was sorry not to seize the moment in my small phone cam. So, I recommend you to visit here and look at the unforgettable sight, in person :)
Caffe L — Google review
Historic site where you can sit, relax, and enjoy the view. Omokdae Historic Site is perched atop a steep hill and is notable as a spot where Yi Seong-gye, who would later become King Taejo, celebrated his victory after the war against the Japanese army at Unbong Peak in Hwangsan Mountain. Directly across the bridge from Omokdae lies Imokdae Historic Site, located at the base of Seungamsan Mountain. About 80 meters downhill from Imokdae, there are memorial stones and a building that was once home to Mokjo, King Taejo’s great-great-grandfather. The inscriptions on the stones are written in the handwriting of Emperor Gojong. Mokjo relocated to Hamgyeongdo following a dispute with the then minister of Jeonju, an event that King Taejo believed was pivotal in his establishment of the Joseon dynasty.
Town T — Google review
Beautiful pavilion and trees in bloom in the summer time but the leaves in trees block the view to the Hanok village below. It would be better during late autumn or early spring to see the village below. Nevertheless, the hill is not difficult to climb and there are many paths to get to and the top and down again. We went up the path in the corner of Taejo-ro and Girin-daero.
Len A — Google review
A place with a great view of Jeonju hanok village You need to climb some stairs but it’s worth There’s a pavilion for rest As if by some unwritten agreement, everyone there lays down to rest😂😂

Flea & Street Markets
Nambu Market, located in Jeonju, is the largest traditional market in the Jeollabuk Province and has been around for 200 years. Situated near the iconic 18th-century Pungnam Gate and the Jeonju Hanok Village, it offers a wide variety of goods including produce, handcrafted items, clothing, and everyday household products. The market is also a paradise for food lovers with its diverse range of traditional Korean street food and local snacks.
The Nambu night market at Jeonju is famous for street foods. It will be a good destination for street food lovers. The market is start from 5:00 pm. You can make a plan for your dinner with varities item here. I was almost fulled after trying some. The price is also reasonable. In most cases its around 6000 won which is lesser than any other places especially from Myangdong😃. If you visit Jeonju you can put it in your plan at afternoon or evening.
Kamrul H — Google review
Went to the night market, great food and lots of choice. There was a great atmosphere with lots of people all walking round. The beef noodles were great as was the deep fried octopus.
Heather D — Google review
Very lively both at night and during the day. In the morning -afternoon, it's a market selling various things such as vegs and fruits, banchan, kitchen utensils, clothes, wooden tools, flowers, plants and some cafes/ restaurants). At night (I believe only on Fridays and Saturdays) there's a night market, around 50 or so stalls in the middle. Tbh, the morning market is more interesting with authentic experience. The night market only sell modern Korean food, mosty sweet and deep-fried things.
Line S — Google review
2025.9.17 (Wed) I have to admit: I have seen many markets in Korea (Seoul, Busan, Jeju)…..this is the least lively. I came during the day, and midweek. The tourist office says it is “open”. I thot the redeeming factor is the bimbimbap. Even that eatery is closed 😅
L Y — Google review
It's really sad that I see some empty store fronts, especially for the ones outside. But I'm glad to see that there is still a lot of merchants that are able to make it through here. Not sure if like modern centers, do the merchants all pay the market, or does the transaction go to them directly? I also wonder if most of the restaurants here take credit card. If not, it's very limiting. Didn't buy anything, just walked through. BUT there's tons of stuff to get here.
龔振勝 — Google review
Famous market in Jeonju that you should go to. There’s so many snacks, food stalls and ingredients to buy here. Was coming here for snacking after went to Hanok Village. Love the ambiance here. 🥹😍

If you enjoy exploring traditional markets, this one is well worth a visit.

Maybe it's busy at certain times (early mornings? Weekends?) But whenever I've been there this place has been absolutely empty. The roof area of the youth market is a nice space which I imagine is great fun when busy.

Nature & Parks
Deokjin Park, located in Jeonju, is a serene and picturesque garden known for its stunning lotus flowers adorning the large natural pond. The park features a decorative pagoda that can be accessed by crossing a wooden bridge, adding to its charm. Spanning over 13,000 square meters, this oasis within the city offers a tranquil ambiance and lush greenery. During the summer months, visitors flock to witness the beautiful lotus flowers in full bloom.
This is the most exquisite park I’ve ever seen. What an experience it was to see all the lotus leaves and a couple of flowers in bloom.
Rachel R — Google review
It was being fully renovated (8th March '25) but we couldn't find any information on that beforehand so we basically went here to see a pile of soil. You can go a little further into the park but the bridge is closed for a big part.

Beautiful place to watch the sunset, it's next to the uni district. Lots of food and sports court nearby. Definitely a spot not to miss.
91 C — Google review
This park is a lovely place to walk around. The main draw for me was the library in the middle of the pond. The library is gorgeous, built in a traditional hanok style with books focusing on Korea and Jeonju in particular. The library is currently open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is a wonderful place to study or just take a quiet break.
Meg H — Google review
A large park with a very relaxed atmosphere. It's interesting to see how the environment changes during the seasons. Has a nice walkway over the lake and a small waterfall. Great place to spend the day.
Brendan S — Google review
I have been there 2 times~ First, I went in may 2020 and there was a lot of construction…. But, we went there over the summer 2023 for the lotus blossoms at the end of July! The construction has made the park look a lot better and more fun for people to walk around. There’s a waterfall, some jungle gyms, and lots of places to relax!
Queen B — Google review
Deokjin Park was beautiful! We visited the park three times. The view from the top is even more beautiful so search for “Cafe Hanol” if you are interested. The path around the park is well-maintained and very safe for everyone. Saw many people taking photos and enjoying their drinks. I also recommend taking a walk at sunset because the area lights up. Strongly recommend!
Hugh S — Google review
Beautiful and English friendly! I was here wayyy longer than intended because there was so much to see. There were quite a few people for a rainy day, but it was still peaceful and easy to find solace. The library is new (in '22) and it's a nice addition. Bring the fam, bring your frens or just enjoy yourself!

The JeonJu Hanji Paper Museum is a fascinating and well-presented museum dedicated to traditional handmade Korean paper. Visitors can learn about the process of making hanji paper as well as its numerous uses, and even have the opportunity to make their own sheet at no cost. The museum showcases various unique paper crafts, including an attractive paper tie and pair of socks that can be purchased as souvenirs.

Jeonju Zoo, located just a kilometer away from Deokjin Park in Jeonju city, South Korea, has been open since 1978 and is home to over 670 animals including tigers, lions, giraffes, rhinos, camels, and hippos. The zoo also features a small amusement park and sports facilities like soccer and volleyball courts. It's a great place for families with kids as there are baby strollers available and games for children to enjoy.
One of the nice place in Jeonju for kids to time pass, cheap and best place with lots of animas, now they are doing some renovation so not able to see hippo and giraffe, etc., lots of things to explore they have baby stroller for kids, they also have games for kids. nice canteen where you can have nice food. good parking out side the park good to reach by bus and taxi. Lots of animals from different places. recommend this if you have kids.
Muthukumar T — Google review
Jeonju Zoo is the third-largest zoo in South Korea, following Seoul Land Zoo as the largest and Everland Zootopia as the second. Despite its scale, the zoo is not very well-known even among Koreans. This is likely due to Jeonju’s limited recognition and accessibility as a travel destination. The zoo itself is very affordable, offers plenty of parking spaces, and provides a comfortable atmosphere as the animals are housed in spacious enclosures. However, if asked whether Jeonju Zoo is a must-visit, it falls short in that regard, which is a notable downside.
Dochi F — Google review

Highly recommend! Overall it's an pretty good zoo. The price is super low as of writing 1300 Won per person plus 1000 won for parking. The zoo is actually pretty large! There are a pretty large variety of animals and small aquarium too! The zoo is also a pretty good park and has rides. Location is great right near downtown.

Nice place, cheap entrance fee, many animals, but if you go very hot time if sun is hot some animals hide and some place reflect the light because of glass i can’t see well. This place not too big so good to come with child and picnic, but the weekend too much people and no parking space. When i was there i saw some poor animals look not good, poor health i hope now they are good.

Jeonju Nanjang is a unique and entertaining experience that offers a glimpse into Korea's past from the 1940s to the 1980s/early 90s. This interactive museum features well-crafted setups using everyday items from those times, allowing visitors to feel like they've traveled back in time. The museum showcases various aspects of daily life, including old snacks, dolls, school uniforms, and more.
I've had such a great time at this museum. If you're curious how Korea looked in the post-war era (mostly the 1950s~the 1980s), then you're going to love this place! So many things to see and check! Definitely take your time. It might take you more than 2 hours to see everything. Totally recommend it🤗

A man was giving and baking sweet potato 🍠 and give it to us for free and it was delicious 🤤 the place is so Instagram worthy, and you can really learn a lot about the older Korean generations and how people used to live before Korea became such a modern society here since it’s literally at the street and it’s so easy to visit during the day

I’ve been here 2 times and was impressed to see that they’re always expanding and adding more stuff to their collection. You walk through the different decades of Korea and can see classroom, towns, transportation, shops, etc. There’s a lot of interactive exhibits like an old arcade and some Korean traditional games!
Queen B — Google review
This place has a massive collection of memorabilia and items from the past - would definitely be appealing to Koreans who have lived through the different periods in recent Korean history. As a tourist, it was hard to understand the meaning of the exhibits and the context without any signage or explanation. Not worth the ticket price if you are not a huge fan of Korean history and memorabilia.

Rental costs 10,000 won per person, while the tea experience is 15,000 won per person.

Disappointing Experience at Hanboknam in Jeonju – Be Cautious Before Booking I had a very disappointing experience renting hanbok from Hanboknam in Jeonju. The shop itself was much smaller than expected and extremely disorganized. Despite having a reservation, we had to wait a long time just to be acknowledged, and the staff seemed overwhelmed and uninterested in helping unless you were upgrading to a more expensive package. If you book a basic hanbok, be aware that the selection is extremely limited and unappealing. It felt like we were being pressured to upgrade on the spot because there was almost nothing decent available in the basic section, and barely any staff to assist unless you were spending more. We had to repeatedly ask for help just to try things on. Also, nearly everything comes with an extra fee – accessories, hairstyling, even storage. Our group of five was only given one locker because we didn’t opt for the more expensive package upfront, which we didn’t know was necessary until we saw how basic the standard option was. Overall, it felt like a bait-and-switch experience. I would not recommend this place unless you’re ready to pay significantly more than the base price just to get decent service and options. Definitely do your research or consider another rental shop in Jeonju that treats customers more fairly.

Very wide selection of hanbok, with packages starting from 1.5 hours (a good amount of time to stroll around the Hanok Village for a photo session, and more than enough in August under the strong sun). A basic hairstyle is included in the price. There are also a few decorated spots in front of the shop for fun photos in costume (e.g., a swing). On our visit, there was only one staff member available before noon on a weekday, so it took about an hour for preparation (dressing, hairstyle, and payment) — though this might not always be the case. We paid 25,000 won for a 1.5-hour rental of a 'premium' hanbok. Lockers and accessories were included.

Had a really great experience renting hanbok from hanboknam! Wide varieties of hanboks, and I had such a memorable time with my partner! The staff were very nice and genuinely want to make us look pretty and handsome! They even gave us service by letting us use the bag and rent the shoes for FREE!!
ZiTing L — Google review
Very friendly staffs, and also very nice hanboks to choose from. However, there might be times where the shop is too occupied to the extent that the staffs are too overwhelmed to help u. Hairstyles - 3 kinds( ribbon hair, half up, and the full up style) Hair Accessories requires topping up of 3000 won, quite worth it they will put a lot of clips.
Jade L — Google review
I used the free pass service to enjoy the whole day. It was reasonable as it included various services like bags, shoes, and hairstyling. Moreover, the clothes were extremely clean and well-maintained. The staff members were incredibly kind as well. Thanks to them, I had a delightful trip.👍

Amusement park
Located within the Jeonju Zoo, Jeonju Dreamland is an amusement park offering thrilling rides for visitors of all ages. Notably, the carousel from Dreamland was featured in BTS's Love Yourself music video. While some may find the facilities a bit old, they are well-maintained and hold sentimental value reminiscent of childhood memories.
Entrance fee only 3000원 but we can enjoy zoo and amusement park. There are so many spot for taking picture and picnic ground.

Had a great time with my 3 year old. I think older children would find the park a bit lame.

Parents love to visit and can have a fun at jenju dream land, with their children. I can't say facilities are quite mordern because a bit old, but no problem with enjoying it, still work well and feel a sentimental value alike playing back on time when I was too young. Yeh, no issues on safety measures. What's more, quite genourous on tickets of riding the plastic horses and bikes and taking a train on the rail and getting on the aircrafts etcs Try one time is about 2,000 won. You can buy one ticket, only 5,000won for 3 time uses regardless of the different kinds of facilities. I recommend going the zoo around dream land and taking a nap under the many trees at park. And you can visit at the dream land. You will feel fresh with beautiful trees and harmonious atmosphere. Try it and take a rest!

Ajung Lake, located in the eastern part of Jeonju, is a stunning destination that transforms with each season, offering visitors a unique experience year-round. This former reservoir has been beautifully converted into an eco park featuring scenic nature spots and environmentally friendly playgrounds for children. The illuminated boardwalks make it perfect for evening strolls, while the vibrant flowers from local nurseries add to its charm during the day.
Great place to walk around. Love walking around my fiancee and her family here. I love finding all the lizards and bugs here too. You can make a full circle around the lake but one part goes up a little mountain. So it can be a little hard for some people. They are working on making a second route that is easier. It is almost done.

(Translated by Google) Ajung Lake is the eastern starting point of Jeonju and is a place visited by many people due to its beautiful scenery. Its mysterious appearance changes in all four seasons, spring, summer, fall, and winter, giving enjoyment to those who visit this place. Many people walk and enjoy along the deck installed on the lake. The area around the lake is filled with flowers grown at a nursery in Jeonju City, taking your breath away. There is a parking lot below the lake, so even those using land vehicles can use it without any inconvenience. On the other side of the parking lot, there is a cafe on the second floor. Unlike what it looks like from the outside, the spacious and refreshing atmosphere, as if it had been transported from nature, enhances the taste of coffee and desserts. The Jeonju Crafts Exhibition Hall is a complex consisting of three different halls: Craft, Special Exhibition, and Experience. It showcases traditional Korean crafts and offers visitors the opportunity to learn about Korean history and culture through displays of traditional craftsmanship. The on-site shop provides an array of cute souvenirs, including gemstone bracelets and wood magnets. While younger visitors may not find it as engaging, it's recommended for those interested in traditional crafts or visiting with their parents.
Has everything and more than you expect. Just make sure you have room in your luggage. Have fun.

I walked into the store at the front and found a lot of cute bookmarks, but then the cash register was not working so the employee took us to the back where there were more crafts. I was actually having a hard time finding souvenirs during my trip to Korea. However, I liked this place had everything, some things maybe out of others’ budgets and other things at reasonable pricing. They have many handmade or locally made things here - accessories, home goods, hand mirrors with mother of pearl, lots of bags and scarves, etc. The staff are also very attentive and nice.

There is no particular difference from Insa-dong or Bukchon, and the fact that they have a variety of products makes it easy to look around at once. I wish there was something unique to Jeonju. I wanted to bring one if the characters were more diverse and pretty, but I couldn't really choose.
