Dongdamen Night Market, also known as Hualien Night Market, is a lively and energetic outdoor market in Hualien, Taiwan. It's a popular destination for both locals and tourists, drawing visitors from near and far to experience its vibrant atmosphere. The market offers a diverse range of local street food that reflects the fusion of indigenous, Hoklo, and Hakka influences in Taiwanese cuisine.
Night markets in Taiwan tend to have narrow walkways n crowded. This is quite a breath of fresh air as the streets are wide n spacious, franked by rows of stores selling all kinds of Taiwanese food, tidbits, snacks, bubble teas, QQ eggs, BBQ fish, BBQ corns, cooked food, etc.

A main night market here in Hualian. Very easy walk in this used to be crowded night market. I was here on a Thursday night and the market has quieten down, we can also see some stalls vacant in this used to be brimming with visitors night market. Tourist has dwindled due to typhoon and weather change.
Do come at least once if you’re here, you will still feel the warmth and passion of the store owners for a pleasant local experience.
Not a very exciting market. Many shops still closed. Mostly games for kids and low quality food. Nothing I’d go back for.
There were a couple nice shop owners like the paint to number stall. Good prices and friendly.
The Jordanian artist next to him was also amazing. Very kind and took time to talk about his sand art with us.
There is some live music on different corners. Some was good and some wasn’t.

It was like visiting a town fair. Lots of games for kids to enjoy. There was a free concert when I went.
The food is the same you would get anywhere in Taiwan: noodle soup, fried chicken, sushi (looked great!) meat barbecue and seafood.

Chose the Sichuan pepper pork filling and was pleasantly surprised to receive a small drink to go with it. A total of just 65TWD is such a bargain for such deliciousness. Plenty of proper sitting places to enjoy our food!
Great local market. It looks better than most (if not all) night markes in taipei. Various vegan / vegetarian options. It has both food, drinks, random stors and games.
I visited during Taiwan national holiday and the atmosphere was special and lovely. My wife and I liked the buns shop and ate also a shaved ice desert. There were also some singers in each of the market streets.
Love the laid-back vibe of the place. Live music and the stalls were more spread out. While we went towards the end of the night, we still had a good time. Tried some food we've never had before, like birds nest fern.

Nanbin Park, also known as Pacific Park, is a recreational area that offers breathtaking ocean views and has designated pedestrian and bike lanes. It is an ideal destination for families with children who can enjoy the playground facilities while adults can take a relaxing morning or evening walk. The park's proximity to the Pacific Ocean makes it an amazing place to feel the wind and soak in the beautiful scenery.
That was such a beautiful surprise on my evening walk. Incredible, creative draftwood exhibition. You can smell the wood, sit in front if the ocean and listen to the waves. Perfect relaxation.

I forgot to book the tour so we got nothing to do, so we decide to give this park a shot in the late afternoon. We end up spending like 2 hours here just chill, take some photos, and watch the sunsets. I then go to this park in the next morning to watch the sunrise. You can get nicer view here than Qixingtan Beach. Here are some photos and footages I got during my time here.

This is a peaceful place to relax, workout, walk, and enjoy the sunshine and sunlight. Just be careful of the electric cars it is a bit dangerous
Absolute must-visit. Perfect for a morning walk with beautiful views of the ocean and mountains. Trail is well-maintained and there are family-friendly play areas with lots of space. Good amount of parking.
A lovely walk, well paved and sites along route. Beautiful coastal walk. On a hot day the sea breeze was sensational. The playground was also what I would imagine heaven to look like for kids.
Perfect spot to spend your time relaxing and feeling the wind. There's a lane for jogging and cycling. The beach definitely is not for swimming. It's very close to the night market so you can go there after enjoying the beach

Also known as Pacific Park. The park runs adjacent to the ocean where the local enjoyed cycling, jogging or leisure walking. Good for family outing with children playground. Great place for a morning or evening relaxing walk. Amazing park with the Pacific Ocean literally a stone throw away. Lots of marbles in the park.

Miao Kou Black Tea is a popular spot in Hualien, Taiwan, known for its bustling atmosphere and hearty snacks. The shop is open 24 hours a day and always draws a crowd of devotees. While waiting in line, visitors can watch as piping hot cups of tea are dropped from the first-floor kitchen through brass tubes.

Relatively small seating area and be prepared to queue. The pancake with pork floss was delicious! And washed them down with the peanut soup or almond drink.

Really. Really. Good. I had liming the day before and I prefer miao kou. Food was good and affordable and I even had 2 red tea in a day! - Went back during lunch to get red tea despite having this for breakfast. Encourage all tourist to pay this a visit! Beside this stores, there’s also gong zheng. These 2 restaurants are one of my favourite in hualien!
Another great treat, we had a local famous and popular breakfast. Ordered different ingredient egg pancakes, white radish cake with egg, traditional black tea and almond drink. Very tasty, delicious, actually somewhat brought back my childhood memory. It’s located by the Temple and business is busy with very reasonable price. Strong recommend you to try it.

A very quaint, old school looking tea shop situated in front of a temple (thus the name of the shop). This place literally transports you back in time with its decor. Ordered the black tea (the actual Chinese name is translated directly as "red tea"). Tastes rich and sweet. The almond milk tea felt a bit diluted. The carrot cake with egg was delightful and the bacon egg roll was simple and nice. Liked the chill relaxed atmosphere.
Old fashion traditional red tea and breakfast shop, they sell very interesting and good taste desert that you don’t see it everyday, do recommend to visit when your around, but since is Covid time, there’s no seats for you to sit down and eat they only do take out. Overall good experience.
Authentic local breakfast “red tea opposite the temple”. Frequented by locals. We had warm soy milk (Dou jiang) and Chinese donuts (Yu Tiao) as well as egg crepes (Dan bing) stuffed with corn and pork floss. The soy milk is fresh, sweetened with sugar. Balanced with the donuts which you dip in. They also serve local macarons and stuffed meat glutinous rice pyramids. A nice casual breakfast.

This place has a lot of potential for tourism, but seemingly not enough tourists to attract vendors or exhibitions. I visited noonish on Saturday, and only 15% of the area was in use.
That said, it is worth a visit to see if it's having a good day. Of the 12 or so vendors, I was particularly impressed with a local potter.
The place was quite large yet no other activities to be done. Suitable for walking and relaxing for awhile.
This historical site is quite large and chill. At first, I thought it was closed but actually, some impressive exhibits were going on with little announcements or banners.
There was an AI Music Hub which was very fun to visit, they projected sci-fi music videos all over the room and turned you into the main character

A great place to visit if you’re into old buildings with history, picturesque, lots of for sale stuffs, more on women things, beter to visit this place on a not so sunny weather. Only 3 stars cause it feels like it’s missing something, maybe some food stalls, music, anything that is related to history of this place.

This used to be a rice wine factory. It was more vibrant when I visited few year ago, with shops and cafes. Now it is being transformed into a cultural / artistic space - but still in the process and it was pretty sleepy when we visited recently. But I still enjoy the architecture and the space

Pine Garden, also known as Songyuan Villa, is a cultural park located in Hualien. It was originally a military site built in the 1940s and has since been transformed into a historical museum and art gallery. The park features well-preserved Japanese-style wooden houses from the colonial period, beautiful gardens, and numerous pine trees that create a peaceful atmosphere. Visitors can explore historical exhibits and enjoy art exhibitions while learning about the site's military history.
松園別館 is such a lovely place. It's an old building constructed during the Japanese era, which is located on a quiet hill overlooking Hualien City. The garden surrounding it is dotted with pine trees, hence the name of the place. On the second floor, there's a space where artists exhibit their works. We were lucky enough to meet 林正宗, the artist behind the paintings in one of the rooms. We chatted to him for about an hour, during which he told us all about the process and the very personal stories behind his works. It was such a joy to meet him and share energy with him! We left very fulfilled, with a postcard each with photos of 林's paintings on them. I would warmly recommend stopping by 松園別館 when you're in Hualien to immerse yourself in the peaceful atmosphere there. Next time we go, it'd be lovely to visit the café as well (:

I spent more time here than I expected.
It's just a peaceful, beautiful and historic place to wander around in. The view was great, the trees smelled amazing and there was a really helpful young man at the tixet desk who offered to take some photos of us which was a pleasant surprise.
It's a beautiful place with great views, good enviroment, kind-nice people and workers and a lot of history about Taiwan to know. It's kinda difficult get there if u don't have a car or scooters but It's a good location nearby to the downtown. ticket to entry is too cheap, there's some stores around where u can get souvenirs, food, drinks and stuffs. am rly enjoyed it my stay there.
Little exhibition place. It is a nice calming historical place which brings some of the history of Hualien to light. More of a place to stroll as opposed to a museum.

The store offers a variety of options including steamed pork buns, shrimp dumplings, rice dumplings, and braised pork rice. Despite the long queues, the ordering process is swift; however, be prepared for a wait as the food takes some time to be ready after ordering. The minced meat bao is highly recommended despite its slightly thick skin.
The first time I tried xiaolongbao, it was really delicious. I dont recommend the dumpling but the noodle and the xiaolongbao. I just dont like how few the seats are.

I didn't like how their xiaolongbao (小籠包) is more of a baozi (包子) with thick skin and no juice inside. The sweet and sour soup (酸辣湯) just tasted sour with 0% spiciness👎🏼
The only thing that was decent was the steamed dumplings (蒸餃).
These may be the best dumplings I have ever had! I had to get help from a local to order, one who spoke English. You take an order docket and mark what you want before going to the counter to pay and with a very short wait your food arrives. Once I got past ordering (no
English translation or photos but it is in Taiwan so I cannot complain it’s in their language) the food was so delicious. I could have eaten bags of these dumplings. They are soft and juicy and had some insanely good sauce with garlic and soy on the tables to ramp up your food. Highly recommend you add this to your ‘must eats’ while in Hualien.

the queue is insane when we went in the late morning, it might be deceiving that the queue to order moves really fast but man the wait for food to be done after you’ve ordered takes SUPER LONG so be prepared 🙃 food wise, we tried the 小笼包 which was super value for money like NTD5 for 1 包 where to find 😭 and the dumplings which were super good especially with the sauce with loads of garlic in it soak the dumpling in that and its super good 😍
after this we went to try the 小笼包 at the other popular 周 store which was NTD6 for 1 包 and to us it was the same hahaha but can definitely tell that the filling is slightly more at the 周 store!
Crowded and you need to grab your seat yourself. So probably if you are alone, kinda not easy to get the seat n order. Really too many ppl the time I visit.
Fairly daily meal place with localized bun and dumpling. Randomly drove and visited at 8pm thought still got many local residence having supper. No ac or fan outside but food taste still ok as didn't notice is a famous store.
Hands down the best bao and dumplings I ate in my life. The dumplings meat is very fatty, the flavour exploding in your mouth. I’m personally not a fan of dumplings with thick layer of bao, but my friend said the flour coating the dumplings were amazing. Overall life changing, must visit

Dai Ji Bian Shi is a popular dining spot in Hualien known for its signature dish, the Bian Shi or wonton dumplings. The restaurant's straightforward establishment serves only one item on the menu, but it's a gourmet legend. The delicate dumpling skin encases flavorful meat fillings and is served in a clear broth with various condiments for self-service. Despite the no-frills service, visitors can expect an authentic local dining experience.
The shop only sells wonton soup, so it is easy to order, just come in and show how many portions you want. I got my lovely huge steaming bowl in few mines. Soup is really good. The broth is not too strong, so you can really enjoy the taste of dumplings, which are really good and you will get a generous number of them. I will come again for sure! The price is 70NT for one soup, pay in cash.

Beautiful made traditional dumplings. The pastry is paper thin with a silky texture and literally melt in your mouth. Served in a clear broth with various condiments at self service.

This is a very famous old shop and the service is fast. Dumplings are well made, love the dumpling skin and the portion of the filling but I don't really like the "porky smell".

This old shop serves wanton and there is nothing else on the menu. The wanton is good - the wrap is silky and the fillings are tasty. It was once visited by the president long time ago.
The soup stick isn't salty and the wantans /dumplings are well made - they don't fall apart sitting in the soup. Nice for a quick bite, though not as cheap as other street food.

Dongdamen Night Market is a sprawling and vibrant night market located on the grounds of the old Hualien Train Station, making it the largest in Hualien County. It offers a wide variety of food, games, and trinkets, creating a wonderland of aromas from grilled steak and sausages to traditional Chinese favorites and Stinky Tofu. The market also features carnival-style games, making it an enjoyable place for families.
This is my second visit to Dong Men Night Market after the earthquake, and it's great to see the place thriving again. It's truly spoiled with choice, offering a huge variety of delicious street food, snacks, and local treats. The atmosphere is lively, and there’s so much to try—from savory bites to sweet desserts.
Despite the challenges, the market is bouncing back strong and still offers an amazing experience. Definitely a must-visit for food lovers!

Most popular night market in all of 花莲.
From arcade games to popular foods for locals. They are fun to play and are very cheap, so does with the food. Ranging from stinky tofu to burned corn.
The burned corn is the most popular in 东大门, meaning that you need to queue. I also tried some steak owned by an old couple, very aesthethic and delicious.
The only thing that needs to be improvised is the trash bin. I walked almost for a kilometer and didint found any trash can at all.
Best night market in Taiwan for sure. Very organized, clean, wide and open, with plenty of unique places to have food, aboriginal food, fun activities, live performances, etc.
I highly recommend the Chipo Hot Dog it was really goooood.
A fun night market, all of the foods you can expect. Especially loved the duck stall, cho dofu, grilled seafood, duck blood skewer, pork blood soup. Beautiful music, good vibes, cute dogs, fun times!
Not as crowded as other night market. Some empty stalls. Its spacious and has many food stands, games, souvenirs. Has big and spacious dining areas in the back of food stands.
Night market dongdamen right next to the seaside walk. Large parking, many food stalls and easy to access to the beach side via a bridge to stroll around after a big meal.
This is a must stop place for foodies who love street food and variety!
The way this night market is built is very well thought of in terms of recreational activities and large groups of visitors. The path was wide and spacious, which allows great open air ventilation. The night market also has recycling trash disposal areas (manned by staffs) qnd also with toilet stalls at the end of each stretch, and even a breast feeding room for mothers at the centre of the area.
Though each stretch of the night market sells faily similar items: fruit juice, sausages, stinky tofu, coffin bread etc. The live singing and resting areas make this an ideal spot for a fun, loving night life! Food prices here range around NT 50~100.
Far away from train station without any public transport for connection. But it is tidier and has more space than other nightmarkets

Furutsu is a small and intimate Japanese restaurant in Hualien that offers an authentic dining experience. Despite limited English, the staff are friendly and eager to assist foreign patrons with the menu. The establishment's focus on fresh ingredients is evident in their sashimi, which is highly recommended. With seating for only 10 guests at a time, the owners strive to ensure a welcoming atmosphere and a memorable dining experience. They even provide images of the fish being served.
A small, intimate restaurant that seats 10 at a time. The owners are very friendly and welcoming! They truly want their customers to have a good experience, and they even find pictures of the fish you’re eating so you know what it looks like! The food is delicious and authentic. You can talk to the sushi chef and ask him questions while he makes the sushi in front of you. The fish tasted super fresh, and the service was unbelievable. They are fluent in mandarin and speak a little English. If you ask them a question that they don’t know how to answer in English, they try their hardest to figure out how to translate it back to you. I can’t wait to visit this place again they next time I come to Hualien!

2nd time came here the uni nikiri was still impressive but the sashimi don was just normal. The sashimis were thickly sliced.
This place does an amazing omakase dinner for only 10 people. Advanced reservations a must, but I got in the next day. Set price at NT $1000 or 1500. I decided to go "first class" and it was awesome.

The thing I found interesting was there was no soy sauce served, almost everything was "sauced" by the chef. Attentive service, even showing pictures in books and on phones of what you are eating. Well worth it!
The hype is real. Awesome omakase at a price (NT$1500 per pax) you can’t possibly get in a major city. Just come and try if you are a sushi and Japanese food lover. Remember to call a couple of days in advance as they can only take 10 person per session.
One of the best meals in my life and I mean it. Chef's choice of sushi, sashimi and other seafood dishes was really amazing. The staff was also very friendly. These combined make this place a must go in Hualien, if you look for unique culinary experience. Thanks guys and good luck in making other foodies very happy people!
A gem in the city of Hualien! I have been reading reviews of Furutsu for a while and finally decided to dine in for their nigiri lunch set at a super steal price of NTD 400.
Coming from LA, a place filled with gazillion glam and glitz sushi restaurants, I wasn't sure what NTD 400 would include. Little did I know I was in for a pleasant surprise that this meal is easily one of my TOP sushi places. With the price & the quality of the fish, you really can't find this anywhere in Taipei (my meal could easily end up to NTD 2000+ with what I added on to my already filling nigiri set).

Made a reservation last minute and luckily they have a spot for me. Keep in mind that this is a RESERVATION ONLY omakase style sushi bar. Please don’t feel offended if they send you away even with empty seats. What I’ve been served below could differ as the chef serves seasonal fresh seafood.
Upon walking in I was immediately greeted by the super friendly owner, the wife & the staff.
The nigiri lunch set consisted of the followings:
Appetizer- ginger (a bit too overpowering to refresh my palate in between nigiris), daikon (YUM), seaweed with clams
Seven nigiri consists of seasonal local catch, which includes several different white fish and amaebi & heavenly oh so tasty ikura & tamago!

This isn’t one of the phony sushi bar that wants to seek media attentions and attract celebrities, this is a legit, small 10 seat sushi bar with a passionate sushi chef who enjoys his work in serving some of the freshest and best seafood!

For day 2, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Sheng An Temple. Not quite as popular as Dongdamen Night Market, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 11 hours.

I had an absolutely amazing time here! From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the lively atmosphere and the beautiful scenery. The rides were thrilling, and the breathtaking views made the experience even more special. When I visited, the flowers were in full bloom, adding a vibrant splash of color to the surroundings. It was truly a sight to behold, making every moment feel magical.
One of the best things about this place is that there are so many picturesque spots to take stunning photos. Whether you’re a fan of nature, amusement parks, or just looking for the perfect background for your pictures, this place has it all. Every corner was beautifully designed, making it a paradise for photography lovers.
As for the attractions, there were plenty of rides to choose from, catering to all kinds of visitors, from thrill-seekers to those who just want to enjoy a relaxing day. But for me, the highlight was definitely the cable car—especially the Sakura cable car. The bottom of the car is transparent, allowing us to see everything below as we floated high above the breathtaking landscape. It was both exhilarating and mesmerizing, offering a completely unique perspective of the area. I couldn’t stop admiring the incredible view beneath my feet!
Overall, this place is an absolute must-visit! Whether you’re coming with family, friends, or even on your own, there’s so much to see and do. I had so much fun and can’t wait to come back again for another unforgettable experience!

Great outing. Definitely recommend for at least half a day! Although it was very empty, it was a lot of fun. Not sure about the authenticity… The staff are very friendly and there is a lot to do! Great value for the ticket. They also accept student ids from outside of Taiwan.
Went on a weekday afternoon. No queues for tickets, gondola and rides. Wear shorts and sandals for water rides. You’ll get wet. Lockers cost $20, and $99 for a raincoat. Might wanna get a cheaper one before coming.
Once the fun is over do visit the cultural village for a glimpse into Formosan aboriginal history
If you’re planning a trip around Sun Moon Lake, this place is definitely a nice add-on for a half or full-day visit.
🎢 Theme Park Side
Surprisingly fun! There are roller coasters, a big drop tower, and some smaller rides, not huge like Universal, but enough to keep you entertained for a few hours. It’s quite family friendly too. If you go on weekdays, lines are usually short.
🏞️ Cultural Village
This is the highlight. The shows are well done, especially the dance performances; they’re lively and meaningful. You can actually learn a lot about local aboriginal culture here.
🌸 European Garden Area
A bit random but really pretty! There’s a European style castle, fountains, and flower gardens, perfect for taking photos.
🚠 Getting There
Best way is by the Sun Moon Lake Ropeway — super scenic ride and drops you right at the park entrance. You can also drive or take a shuttle bus, but the cable car view is worth it.
🍱 Food & Tips
Food options inside are decent, not too pricey for a theme park, though not gourmet either. Try to go early so you can catch both the rides and the shows.

Honestly, it’s a nice blend of culture and fun. Great for travelers who like exploring cultural spots with a touch of adventure.
This place is so fantastic. There are lot of rides that you can enjoy. There are lot of spots that you can enjoy taking photos ☺️. It is a must visit place if you are going to Taiwan 🇹🇼. I also recommend going there during cherry blossom 🌸 season because it is much beautiful.
We took the Sun Moon Lake Ropeway from Ita Thao to enter the park (highly recommend). The park was both incredibly entertaining and informational. As someone that was unfamiliar with Formosan Aboriginal history, I enjoyed the cultural exhibits and showcases. The staff were very friendly.
Avoid at all cost especially with small kids und er a hight of 130cm and over 100cm. There are hardly any rides for that hight yet you still have to pay .
In general the park costs way more than it's worth. Even as an adult the rides deliver very little with many rides being closed at random times throughout the admitting short opening hours
The other thing that I found to be quiet weird is the disconnect between the name of the place and it's actual theme, there's nothing aboriginal about the Spaniards, Alladin, space mountain or Aloha a dinosaur theme ride which was out of order.
Do not go here this place is a tourist scam it's not worth it and is best to be avoided
The water theme park was not packed. You could ride the rides a couple of times. The place looks magical. I would go back

The art work of this Taoism temple is incredible. Yu Wang Dian on the 5th floor of the back building provides a great view of Hualien- it’s beautiful mountains and residential area alike.
This temple was very higglety-piggelty which made it very interesting to visit, but what was amazing about my visit was that a lovely guy from the temple took me to get tao, apparently the festival only happens twice a year and I just happened to visit on that day, I got prayed for and given free food and books and prayer cards, I didnt have much on me other than a packet of Oreos! So I gave them that to say thank you! What beautiful kind people!

Swallow Grotto Yanzikou Trail is a beautiful and scenic hiking trail located in Taroko National Park. We had a hard time finding the trail. We drove all the way past it and went all the way to the top. So we had drive all the way back down. If you see a trail with many people walking and many traveling shuttles then you are in the right place. There is no parking area. They use one side of the road as parking. And the other one for cars to go forward. Tourist will need to stay on the parking side to avoid coming cars. The place is beautiful, worth going but just know there is many traveling tours. There is also a restroom and store there. They sell cakes, juice and coffee.
Beautiful trail to hike to appreicate the beauty of Taroko Gorge. The trail is narrow as most of the trail is shared with a single road on the left. But it is a very see the rock formations and the different layers of rocks.
A must place to visit by joining the 1 day tour including the Taroko Gorge. The views here is awesome and the walk is long but good pave way all along.
This trail is so magnificent. We can see natural rocks and blue water flowing under it. And the cave is good too. But the cave is also for cars driving. So we need to be so careful while enjoying the scenery.
Cool route through the gorge with nice views. The route is next to the road so can be driven as well. There is limited parking but you can stop beyond the white lines (much easier with a scooter). Very popular trail with tour groups!
Swallow Grotto
Spectacular views; you cannot miss this place if you visit the National Park.
Try to see the swallows that have their nest on the grotto wall.
There is a cafeteria in the middle of the train where you can get expresso and waffle
Very cool trail to go through some semi dark tunnels and see the gorge in all of its glory. At the end of the trail there are some parking on the side of the road with restroom and resting area to relax. A must see place.

For day 3, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Qixingtan Scenic Area, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Four-Eight Highland. All together, your day would be filled with about 6 hours of non-stop fun.

Qixingtan Scenic Area in Hualien is a serene coastal spot known for its picturesque gravel shore and clear blue waters. Windy as of 9th May and beautiful place to do a casual run. Has a clean public toilet. There are many rocks between the beach and the sea shore line. There's also some interesting children's playground.

I took a bike from the hostel and rode towards the beautiful promenade. There was an art festival in the stones and trees nearby. The sea was beautiful and calm. The cycling path was comfortable and safe for cyclists and pedestrians.
Very beautiful vistas of the mountains behind Hualien and a nice beach. There are plenty of cycling and running areas.
There was also a beach sculpture display with stones and wood that was very creative and fun to view. The views here are simply breathtaking, I highly recommend making a stop here when visiting Hualien.

Hualien Gangtian Temple is the largest shrine in Hualien and a classic Taoist temple dedicated to Matsu, the deity of the seas and fishing. It's free to enter, but donations are appreciated. The architecture is breathtaking with intricate details that captivate visitors. The atmosphere is serene, with burning incense sticks adding to the ambiance. Located near Hualien Baseball Stadium, it's a must-visit for Taoism devotees and anyone seeking tranquility.
The place is huge!! You can see the beautiful mountains at the back. It’s a magnificent view. The place is like a maze! You can actually get into the dragon to climb the stairs to the third floor. There’s a lot of worship halls, murals, lanterns, art… totally worth the visit.

A large temple with the all the details, colour and beauty of these Taoist temples. Interesting are the two Dragon towers either side of the entrance with spiral staircase inside each.
A really fascinating, magnificent place to visit, more of must place visit for devotees of Taoism. The place is tranquil and calms ones mind. Do spend some time to study the buildings, you'll be surprised how deep it's meaning is. The place is off the main streets of Hualien, so flagging down a cab back to the city can be a problem. It took me about 35 minutes of walk back to Hualien station.
Special thanks to Elder Zhang (if I remember correctly) for imparting his great knowledge to me, really blessed to be fated to meet him in the temple. For those fated, spend some time with him, he'll share something which no ordinary people will see.
Gang Tian Temple, a goddess Matsu temple. Pretty impressive large temple but certain area of temple require upkeep. Two large dragon mouth at front the temple. Climb the spiral stairs from left & exit on right. Quite a distance from Hualien town centre.

Absolutely, yes! Selection: incredibly great, colourful, good, excellent quality, large and varied. Prices: I buy when the price seems okay/reasonable to me or when fixed prices are clearly displayed. All the sellers were very friendly and nice. My purchase: 1 large roll? 25 TWD, 1 good handful of vegetables 25 TWD, 1x rice with vegetables + dessert 70 TWD. Everything was very tasty, good and of impeccable quality. In the afternoon, at a stall with Vietnamese sellers, I was completely unexpectedly given a bottle of water and a sweet drink, which surprised me enormously and made me very happy. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for this once again. I also really liked the order, tranquillity, cleanliness and solidity. It was nowhere near as crowded as other places, which was an added bonus. I felt completely at ease and would recommend this market.

Exploring the local wet market as a tourist is a great way to immerse yourself in the community's daily life. I noticed that the smell in this wet market is much better than most wet markets in Malaysia. But not sure how it is perceived by the locals.
So far I was here only in the evening and I was surprised that even atound 8 pm few stalls were still open. The fruit xhoice was great and price decent. Will see how it will chabge tomorrow morning.

Beibin Park is a charming waterfront recreational area located between Hualien and the Meilun River. It has recently been transformed into an open-air art gallery featuring whimsical three-dimensional paintings of marine life. A little underwhelming during winter (mid Jan). I'm sure it's more lively and pretty during the high season. There's really not much to do here since no one is playing volleyball and it's somewhat deserted. Good starting spot for a bicycle tour to Ci Xing Tan though!

The park is currently undergoing construction as it will be know as Pacific Ocean Park also known as Beibin Park. Colourful park with a statue of Guan Yin - Goddess of Mercy. Along the rocky beach, the local are fishing in the Pacific Ocean whilst other laze around the park. Good for jogging and cycling.
Nice place to hangout!! Lots of activities happening. A place for skateboarding and beach volleyball are there. Car and bike parking facilities are available.

Although officially closed due to the terrain being unstable, there were still a few people visiting and taking photos of the lovely view. The viewpoint can be easily reached by bicycle following the cycling route foe about 20min, depending how fast a rider you are. There's a path leading into the bushes which I suppose would eventually bring you to a spot where you can see the light house from the other side, but I couldn't find the path between all the bushes and plants. Definitely worth a stop if you're going to Ci Xing Tan anyway.
At here , you can easily have a great view of The Pacific Ocean . And most importantly ,it’s not a well know sightseeing spot . So you can stay here for a long time without being disturb from other tourist .
Here you will experience a big wing. So you better have a cloth or court on side .
Remember take your camera batteries ,because it’s a beautiful place .
Quite a nice area to stop by. We were looking for the tunnel but we were amazed by the flower garden right next to it. The tunnel is quite long and it took about 10 minutes to hike to the end. You get rewarded for your "long" walk with beautiful ocean views.
The power of the internet and picture apps on the phone can make places famous and popular no matter how boring they are. This is just a tiny cliff overlooking the beach without much to see really.

Just visited this restaurant for lunch. Absolutely brilliant food. If you are passing through Hualien and need to fill up I would highly recommend this place. I usually highly critical of western food in Taiwan and the so called high rated places usually get a zero from me. This one time I was impressed. I think that the main reason for this is the owner (bless his heart) works alongside his staff churning out the dishes. He is a dying breed of restaurant owners that actually runs the kitchen shoulder to shoulder ensuring every dish that passes his counter is perfect. I'm no michelin star fan and think they are overrated and believe the true essence of a meal is in the passion one puts in to make it and Three Koala's in Hualien is no exception to that rule. We had the spicy wings, honey wings, cheese burger, minced beef panini and a few drinks. Every item was tasty and served with.
Now to the highlight of our lunch - Dessert. We ordered 2 brownies with ice cream. I have eaten brownies all over Taiwan for the last 5 years. This was "The Best" I have ever eaten period.
I never give a 5 star rating. But today "Three Koala's" deserves every corner of every star it's rated.

I love this restaurant because the food is always delicious and the price is also reasonable. The pizza is relatively small for an adult, therefore it’s best to order pizza long with another dish, like I did. Eating here reminds me of back home in the West.
I ordered the bacon, egg, cheese beef burger and it was PHENOMENAL!! The meat was perfectly juicy - not over cooked/dry and not bleeding on my plate. The French fries were nicely seasoned (and not super greasy!) and the honey mustard mayo dipping sauce was a yummy compliment to the fries. The atmosphere was clean and cozy. You must eat here and have this experience!! 🙌🏽👏🏽👍🏽 And the Oreo Milkshake? Let’s just saw it was so delicious (not too heavy) that it disappeared quite quickly. 😋🙈😆

Hualien Leisure Marina offers an exciting opportunity for whale enthusiasts to observe a variety of marine creatures, including humpback, killer, sperm, false killer and pygmy killer whales. Additionally, playful dolphins such as spinner, bottlenose, pantropical spotted and Chinese white dolphins can be spotted during the whale-watching tours. The best time to visit is from April to October when sightings are more frequent. It's recommended to book in advance due to high demand for these professional guided tours.
Fantastic experience today! I booked only the night before and was lucky to see many dolphins, a whale and have an English speaking guide on board.
Boat was great, it had water to drink and a toilet.
Would highly recommend especially as they reached out to personally contact my WeChat which made logistics very easy!

We got to see dolphins, the whales were playing hide and seek (and they won) but the experience was totally worth it!
Awesome experience! Very easy to go through. Bought tickets, reserved timeslot, got on boat, sailed onto ocean. We saw many many dolphins! Dolphins swam very close to the boat, and we got so many pictures. It was extremely cool. We only saw Bottlenose Dolphins though.
Well organized professional tour. Managed to see lots of dolphins but unfortunately whale was not looming at our place .

The Hualien Harbor Landscape Bridge is a stunning destination that offers visitors an unforgettable experience. As you make your way down from the bridge, you'll be greeted by a striking mosaic mural adorning the warehouse wall, part of an artistic transformation of the area in collaboration with local organizations. One standout feature is the "Wind Seventy" mosaic sculpture, inspired by Taiwanese artist Yeh Wang's work and brought to life by talented artists Hou Tai-an and Sung Cheng-wei.
Beautiful place to enjoy the scenery of sea water, ship, and harbour. Recomended to came here in the morning and evening. The jogging track also available and clean.

We went during sunrise but could not go to the bridge as it was closed. The sunrise was good.
A red bridge cross the Hau-Lian port. One can see boats and ships entering and leaving the port. A nice sightseeing place.

Totally boring and be careful of the pack of stray dogs.
This footbridge affords a view of the harbor and the Hualien coastline. It also leads to a promenade along the harbor. You can also relax at a nearby coffee shop, or have a bite to eat at the adjacent restaurant. This area also marks the entrance to a tree-lined bicycle/pedestrian path that exits at Bei-bin ocean park, perhaps 1 km South. It's a pleasant, easy stroll with many people along the way.

Hualien Martyrs' Shrine

Hualien Martyrs' Shrine, originally a Japanese Shinto temple built in 1915, was reconstructed in the 1980s as a Taoist building to commemorate local martyrs who resisted invasion. It pays tribute to figures like Koxinga and Liu Yongfu who fought against various invasions. The shrine stands out among other Martyrs' shrines in Taiwan as it is located on the same spot as the former Japanese Karenko Shrine.
A beautiful shrine by the river park in Hualien. The site was completely deserted when I visited. There are beautiful views of the skyline of the city at sunset

This site used to be a Japanese shrine but had since been demolished to make way for Hualien Martyr's shrine. We were here in the afternoon and not a single person was in the compound. I was lost in reverie while sitting on the steps of the shrine, taking in the tranquillity of the surrounding, with faint Buddhist music playing in the background (not sure where the music was from - not the shrine definitely).
Interesting, there were no people whatsoever. You can either enter through the front arc or from the back via that odd "amusement park" on the hill behind the shrine. There's really not much here but it still makes for a decent spot for some nice photos and it can be easily reached by bicycle. If you ride to Ci Xing Tan, you can take the cycling route along the coast on the way there then take the main road into the city on the way back and stop here.

I went on a Thursday evening and there was not a single person there other than me. It was very serene, and the colors and design of the shrine were really beautiful.

A very popular spring onion pancake with a fried egg!! It’s delicious but a little bit greasy if you’re not used to eat “deep fried egg”. I do like it personally. The only concern I had was that the colour of the oil which was used to fry the cakes seemed a bit too “dark”. I think they should change the frying oil more frequently.
Okay the photo I took might not be as appetizing as you think, but this taste wayyyyyyyy better than the other famous ones! Please pay this shop a visit people! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Just average, may be a good alternative if you are sick of the long queue at those popular scallion pie shops in Fuxing Street.
My family and I LOVEEEEE this place! I hate to write a 5 star review for this place as this is a local gem, but the owner is too nice and kind that I had to make sure he stays in business so I can get my scallion pancakes whenever I want it for many years to come!

Country Mother's is a charming American and European brunch spot with a cozy country home atmosphere. The menu features generous portions of classic favorites like eggs Benedict, wholegrain waffles, and the European Omelet with Dijon Sauce. The attentive and friendly staff ensure a pleasant dining experience, although it can get quite busy on weekends. The varied menu includes options ranging from waffles and pancakes to omelets and eggs Benedict, along with an array of juice and drink choices.
Western style brunch with good size portions. The staff was very attentive and friendly. There was street parking pretty close. The restaurant has seating in two areas to accommodate a or of people but it is a great place so it was full when I went on a Saturday. (Worth the wait) There was a lot of variety from waffles, pancakes and French toast to Omelettes, eggs Benedict and much more. There were also quite a few juice and drink options. Everything was fresh and served pretty quickly after ordering.

Huge portions of quality food at a very reasonable price. We came by on a Saturday around noon and waited 10 minutes for a table for 2. The employees were SO friendly to accommodate how we could not speak or read any Chinese. You basically get seated with a menu, then mark a laminate menu in Chinese, then pay for your meal, then wait for the delicious items to be served.
Tasted like a real, American breakfast. We ordered their CM (Country Mothers) breakfast that came with eggs, potatoes, their homemade bread and choice of meat - we got bacon. Also got their French toast side (huge portion, came with 4 pieces of toast cut into triangles for 8 pieces of French toast) and their veggie omelette side - super good. Perfect amount of sweetness with the French toast and the omelette was 2 eggs with a delicate balance of veggies (baby corn, bell peppers) and cheese. I ordered their Banana Yogurt Salad that was a delicious blend of sweetened plain yogurt, bananas, walnuts, mulberry jam, mint leaves and cornflakes. Their black iced tea is pre sweetened. Orange juice freshly pressed.
Interior makes you feel more at home, with its big open windows and photos of 80’s looking dogs up on the wall.
Help yourself to water. Best to pay with cash. Our total was under 600NT for us to feel so satisfied!
Large hearty breakfast, portion is very big when considering typical people, even a big eater will satisfied after trying their full meal. I recommend trying their beef.
Great place, all the menu is amazing. Must have: cinnamon roll, egg and cheese scramble, focaccia, chile con carne, quesadilla, hash brown sandwich. Everything tastes great and their meals come with a drink. The manager is very friendly and she can accommodate your dietary restrictions. If you cannot eat many carbs, she can replace the potato wedges for broccoli and hollandaise.
Good American brunch in Hualien! Loved the cinnamon apple pancakes and salmon eggs benedict. The mulberry yogurt drink was really yummy too! Good experience overall!
We came here everyday for breakfast during our stay in Hualien. It's one of the only places that serves western style breakfasts early in the morning. The service is fantastic and on our second return they remembered how we liked our drinks and were very welcoming. The quality of the food is great and they were even able to customise items for us. Would recommend the Eggs Benedict. The main server/manager speaks English which made it easier for us to order as our Chinese is very limited. The place gets very busy so be sure to reserve a table or get there early - you might need to line up and wait, especially at weekends.
Fresh toast is mediocre, it’s very plain. I would prefer more soggy and milky flavor. Orange juice is really bad, taste like made from chemicals. Potato and apple stuffing is delicious. Foods were served very quickly. I probably won’t visit this place again since their French toast is not good as I thought.
