Dongdamen Night Market, also known as Hualien Night Market, is a lively and energetic outdoor market in Hualien, Taiwan. It's a popular destination for both locals and tourists, drawing visitors from near and far to experience its vibrant atmosphere. The market offers a diverse range of local street food that reflects the fusion of indigenous, Hoklo, and Hakka influences in Taiwanese cuisine.
It was an amazing experience walking through this well set up, organised and clean massive night market! So much to see and so many food stalls to choose from. Tried the salted pork and oysters stall. E27 (if I'm wrong)It was sooo delicious and well worth the money Queued up for the French Toast Sandwich. Stall E80. Chose the Sichuan pepper pork filling and was pleasantly surprised to receive a small drink to go with it. A total of just 65TWD is such a bargain for such deliciousness. Plenty of proper sitting places to enjoy our food!
Flora T — Google review
Not a very exciting market. Many shops still closed. Mostly games for kids and low quality food. Nothing I’d go back for. There were a couple nice shop owners like the paint to number stall. Good prices and friendly. The Jordanian artist next to him was also amazing. Very kind and took time to talk about his sand art with us. There is some live music on different corners. Some was good and some wasn’t. Won’t be going back. Sorry.
Richard K — Google review
It was like visiting a town fair. Lots of games for kids to enjoy. There was a free concert when I went. The food is the same you would get anywhere in Taiwan: noodle soup, fried chicken, sushi (looked great!) meat barbecue and seafood. You would not miss much if you don't visit here.
Angelita A — Google review
Great local market. It looks better than most (if not all) night markes in taipei. Various vegan / vegetarian options. It has both food, drinks, random stors and games.
Shai M — Google review
I visited during Taiwan national holiday and the atmosphere was special and lovely. My wife and I liked the buns shop and ate also a shaved ice desert. There were also some singers in each of the market streets.
Ori B — Google review
A good balanced mixture of food and games night market. Varieties of local snacks that are worth trying. They have a designated area for people to sit down and enjoy the food. If you are good with carnival games, no harm try your luck to play and win some stuff toys as souvenirs.
Sandra L — Google review
Amazing night market! It's much more organised than the usual night markets in Taipei. The walking space between the shops is a lot bigger so even if it is crowded it is easy to walk around. The food selection is very good, everything that i tried tasted exceptionally! Definitely worth a visit!
Matthias K — Google review
Night markets in Taiwan tend to have narrow walkways n crowded. This is quite a breath of fresh air as the streets are wide n spacious, franked by rows of stores selling all kinds of Taiwanese food, tidbits, snacks, bubble teas, QQ eggs, BBQ fish, BBQ corns, cooked food, etc.

Hualien Cultural and Creative Industries Park, also known as A-Zone, is a vast multipurpose park located in the heart of Hualien City. Originally built over a century ago as part of a wine-making factory complex during the Japanese occupation, this elegant park spans 33,000 square meters and comprises 26 vintage factory warehouses that have been repurposed into industrial-style restaurants, shops, exhibition spaces, and creative industry hubs.
**Rating: ★★★★★** Hualien Cultural and Creative Industries Park is a brilliant fusion of heritage and imagination. This former industrial site has transformed into a vibrant hub of art and creativity, showcasing everything from quirky crafts to impressive exhibitions. It’s like wandering through a contemporary art gallery where the walls are historic buildings and the art is as eclectic as the crowd. Don’t miss the chance to indulge in some local treats—because art is best enjoyed with a side of delicious food! Highly recommended for those who enjoy a blend of culture, creativity, and a touch of culinary adventure.
Toon T — Google review
This place has a lot of potential for tourism, but seemingly not enough tourists to attract vendors or exhibitions. I visited noonish on Saturday, and only 15% of the area was in use. That said, it is worth a visit to see if it's having a good day. Of the 12 or so vendors, I was particularly impressed with a local potter.
Dominic R — Google review
The place was quite large yet no other activities to be done. Suitable for walking and relaxing for awhile.
汀汀 — Google review
This historical site is quite large and chill. At first, I thought it was closed but actually, some impressive exhibits were going on with little announcements or banners. There was an AI Music Hub which was very fun to visit, they projected sci-fi music videos all over the room and turned you into the main character This place is free entrance!
Lac T — Google review
A great place to visit if you’re into old buildings with history, picturesque, lots of for sale stuffs, more on women things, beter to visit this place on a not so sunny weather. Only 3 stars cause it feels like it’s missing something, maybe some food stalls, music, anything that is related to history of this place.

This used to be a rice wine factory. It was more vibrant when I visited few year ago, with shops and cafes. Now it is being transformed into a cultural / artistic space - but still in the process and it was pretty sleepy when we visited recently. But I still enjoy the architecture and the space

Train station
Hualien Station is a modern and beautiful transportation hub that serves as a gateway for tourists visiting the scenic Hualien area. The station offers convenient connections to various destinations, including Taipei and Tainan. It has undergone significant renovations in recent years, enhancing its facilities and overall appeal. Nearby accommodations provide amenities such as free shuttle service and well-equipped units with kitchenettes and flat-screen TVs.
Very modern and well maintained. It’s much cleaner than the Taipei main station. There are not many restaurants or shops inside the station but enough to get a quick bite. Since it’s a major tourist destination, it’s very spacious to accommodate the crowds.

This the funkily designed main train station of Hualien. It has plwnty of information and electronic boards, which majes quite easy to navigate.
E K — Google review
Two full loaded bicycles just rolled them on without a problem. Great help and service from Information centre. We had purchased the wrong tickets, came back the next day received a full refund without any problems. Than you Hualien Station.
Ralf W — Google review
It is a functional train station but it is a bit dated.
Simon W — Google review
Beautiful train station, the nicest I saw in Taiwan. Compared to other stations along the west coast, this one is ultra modern and the building is gorgeous. The staff is super friendly but you won't have to interact with them too much since everything is automated. There are lots of connections from Taipei to the east coast and a few trains go as far as Tainan on the west coast. Great experience!
John — Google review
Beautiful train station with few convenience store, souvenir shops and eateries. The bus station is located just right in front and you may leave your luggage to go for your excursion. Many restaurants, car rentals, hotels and shops just across the road.
KS L — Google review
Very picturesque train station with lots of good amenities. Plenty of food stalls to eat and also buy souvenirs. Easy to do curb side drop and pickup. Staff is very friendly and some of them speak English as well.

Pine Garden, also known as Songyuan Villa, is a cultural park located in Hualien. It was originally a military site built in the 1940s and has since been transformed into a historical museum and art gallery. The park features well-preserved Japanese-style wooden houses from the colonial period, beautiful gardens, and numerous pine trees that create a peaceful atmosphere. Visitors can explore historical exhibits and enjoy art exhibitions while learning about the site's military history.
松園別館 is such a lovely place. It's an old building constructed during the Japanese era, which is located on a quiet hill overlooking Hualien City. The garden surrounding it is dotted with pine trees, hence the name of the place. On the second floor, there's a space where artists exhibit their works. We were lucky enough to meet 林正宗, the artist behind the paintings in one of the rooms. We chatted to him for about an hour, during which he told us all about the process and the very personal stories behind his works. It was such a joy to meet him and share energy with him! We left very fulfilled, with a postcard each with photos of 林's paintings on them. I would warmly recommend stopping by 松園別館 when you're in Hualien to immerse yourself in the peaceful atmosphere there. Next time we go, it'd be lovely to visit the café as well (:

Large comfortable rooms (two doubles in our room) and luxurious free standing bath as well as shower in bathroom. Lovely surroundings and view.

I spent more time here than I expected. It's just a peaceful, beautiful and historic place to wander around in. The view was great, the trees smelled amazing and there was a really helpful young man at the tixet desk who offered to take some photos of us which was a pleasant surprise.

It's a beautiful place with great views, good enviroment, kind-nice people and workers and a lot of history about Taiwan to know. It's kinda difficult get there if u don't have a car or scooters but It's a good location nearby to the downtown. ticket to entry is too cheap, there's some stores around where u can get souvenirs, food, drinks and stuffs. am rly enjoyed it my stay there.
Neftali G — Google review
Little exhibition place. It is a nice calming historical place which brings some of the history of Hualien to light. More of a place to stroll as opposed to a museum.
David C — Google review
Beautiful setting with Japanese-era military significance. Programming was a bit lacking for the cost of admission.

Hualien Railway Culture Park offers a glimpse into the history of train travel in Taiwan, with its restored 1932 railway depot structures and machine yard. The park showcases the fascinating story of Taiwan's early railway development, from its construction under Qing Dynasty governor Liu Ming-Chuan to its completion during Japanese rule. Visitors can explore preserved Japanese steam locomotives, including a Nishia made in 1936.
A lovely place near the beach. The building has Japanese style and its open space has some great old giant trees. I love the historical value of this place.
Nguyen V — Google review
It's kinda boring here, even the entrance ticket is free. Everything seems very old and there are no activities or cultural events instead of the opening bookstore and a little activity for local families. But I think you can take good pictures here
Hoàng P — Google review
A very lovely and peaceful place, kind of a mini museum of Hualien railway history. There are some souvenir ink stamps to collect at the main entrance, they are very easy to see but also easy to miss. This place is free entrance! Don't expect too much or you will find it boring.
Lac T — Google review
The well-preserved heritage railway displays, along with the hands-on activities, made it a perfect outing for the whole family. The scenic surroundings added to the charm. Truly a gem in Hualien!"
Miley Y — Google review
A small museum with interesting displays of old railway gear and equipments. Buildings are very well renovated or preserved with the japanese theme from the old times. The miniature in the exhibition room shows what old Hualien train station & port and their surroundings looked like 40 years ago, however based on incorrect relative positions and distances. Free of entry, and definitely a must for railway fans.
Neil — Google review
No other interesting things to do other than sitting or walking. The area had grown grasses nearby and needs to trim.

Raining cat & dogs last month so we came here to chill at the cafe. Pretty cool place no much crowd, drinks taste ok though and price is pretty average also. Didn't walk around for long as the rain was very heavy and long lasting

Place of worship
Hualien Martyrs' Shrine, originally a Japanese Shinto temple built in 1915, was reconstructed in the 1980s as a Taoist building to commemorate local martyrs who resisted invasion. It pays tribute to figures like Koxinga and Liu Yongfu who fought against various invasions. The shrine stands out among other Martyrs' shrines in Taiwan as it is located on the same spot as the former Japanese Karenko Shrine.
A beautiful shrine by the river park in Hualien. The site was completely deserted when I visited. There are beautiful views of the skyline of the city at sunset
E K — Google review
This site used to be a Japanese shrine but had since been demolished to make way for Hualien Martyr's shrine. We were here in the afternoon and not a single person was in the compound. I was lost in reverie while sitting on the steps of the shrine, taking in the tranquillity of the surrounding, with faint Buddhist music playing in the background (not sure where the music was from - not the shrine definitely).
Henry C — Google review
Interesting, there were no people whatsoever. You can either enter through the front arc or from the back via that odd "amusement park" on the hill behind the shrine. There's really not much here but it still makes for a decent spot for some nice photos and it can be easily reached by bicycle. If you ride to Ci Xing Tan, you can take the cycling route along the coast on the way there then take the main road into the city on the way back and stop here.
Ivo N — Google review
it seemed no one here at the time I came

Hualien County Stone Sculpture Museum is a unique space that showcases both contemporary and traditional stone sculptures. It is the first museum in the country with a focus on stone carving, housing creative pieces from international stone carving events. The museum's layout includes various areas such as Collection Area, Display Area, and Modern Stone Carving Area. This museum showcases an impressive collection of of stone carvings, along with exhibits featuring artworks and products made from trees. They also host special events to highlight featured displays. The entrance fee is $20 for regular visitors , with special discounts available for students .
Angelique R — Google review
The outdoor display of massive artistic creations by sculpture artists from many different countries is on display here. Each piece is labelled with relevant information, including name and nationality of artist, title of work, year of creation, etc. It was an enjoyable walk while admiring at the different pieces of work. It is hard to imagine how each artist turns a large piece of marble into a perfect piece of work with shape, meaning that invokes the viewers' imagination.
Sylvia L — Google review
I really like going to museums so this one is a place that I did enjoy visiting. The ticket price is $10NT for students. There were also some guides around the place but for foreigners it will actually be hard since they only speak Chinese. We were really lucky that one of the guides did explain to us a few of the pieces.

Fantastic experience today! I booked only the night before and was lucky to see many dolphins, a whale and have an English speaking guide on board. Boat was great, it had water to drink and a toilet. Would highly recommend especially as they reached out to personally contact my WeChat which made logistics very easy!

While waiting in line, visitors can watch as piping hot cups of tea are dropped from the first-floor kitchen through brass tubes.
Rustic place that served traditional Taiwanese breakfast. Relatively small seating area and be prepared to queue. The pancake with pork floss was delicious! And washed them down with the peanut soup or almond drink.

It’s a traditional tea/snack shop. The cake (Chinese macarons) was very soft and not too sweet. It’s semi outdoor so no air condition

Really. Really. Good. I had liming the day before and I prefer miao kou. Food was good and affordable and I even had 2 red tea in a day! - Went back during lunch to get red tea despite having this for breakfast. Encourage all tourist to pay this a visit! Beside this stores, there’s also gong zheng. These 2 restaurants are one of my favourite in hualien!

Another great treat, we had a local famous and popular breakfast. Ordered different ingredient egg pancakes, white radish cake with egg, traditional black tea and almond drink. Very tasty, delicious, actually somewhat brought back my childhood memory. It’s located by the Temple and business is busy with very reasonable price. Strong recommend you to try it.

A very authentic shop selling legendary drinks and various foods. Good service. I really like the black tea, toast, and traditional foods such as: dan bing.
Adrianto O — Google review
A very quaint, old school looking tea shop situated in front of a temple (thus the name of the shop). This place literally transports you back in time with its decor. Ordered the black tea (the actual Chinese name is translated directly as "red tea"). Tastes rich and sweet. The almond milk tea felt a bit diluted. The carrot cake with egg was delightful and the bacon egg roll was simple and nice. Liked the chill relaxed atmosphere.
Wei L — Google review
Old fashion traditional red tea and breakfast shop, they sell very interesting and good taste desert that you don’t see it everyday, do recommend to visit when your around, but since is Covid time, there’s no seats for you to sit down and eat they only do take out. Overall good experience.
Esther L — Google review
Authentic local breakfast “red tea opposite the temple”. Frequented by locals. We had warm soy milk (Dou jiang) and Chinese donuts (Yu Tiao) as well as egg crepes (Dan bing) stuffed with corn and pork floss. The soy milk is fresh, sweetened with sugar. Balanced with the donuts which you dip in. They also serve local macarons and stuffed meat glutinous rice pyramids. A nice casual breakfast.

A little underwhelming during winter (mid Jan). I'm sure it's more lively and pretty during the high season. There's really not much to do here since no one is playing volleyball and it's somewhat deserted. Good starting spot for a bicycle tour to Ci Xing Tan though!

Beautiful! Love having my morning coffee there!

The park is currently undergoing construction as it will be know as Pacific Ocean Park also known as Beibin Park. Colourful park with a statue of Guan Yin - Goddess of Mercy. Along the rocky beach, the local are fishing in the Pacific Ocean whilst other laze around the park. Good for jogging and cycling.

Hualien Fishing Harbor is a vibrant and environmentally friendly multi-purpose harbor located in Hualien City, Taiwan. It serves as both a fully functional fishing port and a picturesque spot for visitors to enjoy stunning ocean views. The harbor offers an array of fresh seafood options, allowing guests to handpick their ingredients and have them cooked to order at local restaurants. Additionally, it provides the opportunity to embark on ferry tours for dolphin or whale watching.
amazing view! But if you have motion sickness, please have medicine handy prior to the trip as the boat can be shaky and make you feel sick.

Kinda sad to see a once popular spot now but a near deserted harbour. Came in the morning, half expected to see some fisherman bringing in new catch, but there was no one and nothing going on. Hoping one day the fish will come back and reinvigorate the harbour and the town. Btw, if you are thinking of jogging to the lighthouse like me, I don’t think you can. The entry appeared to have been blocked off.

Steamed bun shop
Deli
Gong Zheng Bun Store is a bustling spot known for its assortment of steamed buns and dumplings, along with refreshing beverages. The store offers a variety of options including steamed pork buns, shrimp dumplings, rice dumplings, and braised pork rice. Despite the long queues, the ordering process is swift; however, be prepared for a wait as the food takes some time to be ready after ordering. The minced meat bao is highly recommended despite its slightly thick skin.
The first time I tried xiaolongbao, it was really delicious. I dont recommend the dumpling but the noodle and the xiaolongbao. I just dont like how few the seats are.
Hoàng P — Google review
I didn't like how their xiaolongbao (小籠包) is more of a baozi (包子) with thick skin and no juice inside. The sweet and sour soup (酸辣湯) just tasted sour with 0% spiciness👎🏼 The only thing that was decent was the steamed dumplings (蒸餃).
K M — Google review
These may be the best dumplings I have ever had! I had to get help from a local to order, one who spoke English. You take an order docket and mark what you want before going to the counter to pay and with a very short wait your food arrives. Once I got past ordering (no English translation or photos but it is in Taiwan so I cannot complain it’s in their language) the food was so delicious. I could have eaten bags of these dumplings. They are soft and juicy and had some insanely good sauce with garlic and soy on the tables to ramp up your food. Highly recommend you add this to your ‘must eats’ while in Hualien.
Emma K — Google review
If you are in this area then you have to come here. Their food is so good. Steamed buns and dumplings are amazing. Their soups are awesome. The price is very affordable. My wife and I ate here 3 times in 2 days! Thanks you for the great food!!
Philip F — Google review
the queue is insane when we went in the late morning, it might be deceiving that the queue to order moves really fast but man the wait for food to be done after you’ve ordered takes SUPER LONG so be prepared 🙃 food wise, we tried the 小笼包 which was super value for money like NTD5 for 1 包 where to find 😭 and the dumplings which were super good especially with the sauce with loads of garlic in it soak the dumpling in that and its super good 😍 after this we went to try the 小笼包 at the other popular 周 store which was NTD6 for 1 包 and to us it was the same hahaha but can definitely tell that the filling is slightly more at the 周 store!
Hui L — Google review
We were waiting next door and we saw all the fanfare with the new decorations at what is now a new location for Gong Zheng Bun Store. Bought a few 小笼包 to take away, was good and got some more. Delicious, but less meat as compared to those at 周家.
Samuel G — Google review
Hands down the best bao and dumplings I ate in my life. The dumplings meat is very fatty, the flavour exploding in your mouth. I’m personally not a fan of dumplings with thick layer of bao, but my friend said the flour coating the dumplings were amazing. Overall life changing, must visit
Bing S — Google review
We came here following the rave reviews in Google, and we are not dissapointed. The mince meat bao is superb and a must order. The skin is a tad thick but is still manageable. There is a short queue for dinning in, and you will need to order ahead while queuing to shorten the preparation time. You can literally see your order being made at the same time. The bao comes in individual pieces or basket of ten. There are a few soups to try and also to wash down with soya milk or red tea.

Hualien Gangtian Temple is the largest shrine in Hualien and a classic Taoist temple dedicated to Matsu, the deity of the seas and fishing. It's free to enter, but donations are appreciated. The architecture is breathtaking with intricate details that captivate visitors. The atmosphere is serene, with burning incense sticks adding to the ambiance. Located near Hualien Baseball Stadium, it's a must-visit for Taoism devotees and anyone seeking tranquility.
The place is huge!! You can see the beautiful mountains at the back. It’s a magnificent view. The place is like a maze! You can actually get into the dragon to climb the stairs to the third floor. There’s a lot of worship halls, murals, lanterns, art… totally worth the visit.

Vincent O — Google review
A really fascinating, magnificent place to visit, more of must place visit for devotees of Taoism. The place is tranquil and calms ones mind. Do spend some time to study the buildings, you'll be surprised how deep it's meaning is. The place is off the main streets of Hualien, so flagging down a cab back to the city can be a problem. It took me about 35 minutes of walk back to Hualien station. Special thanks to Elder Zhang (if I remember correctly) for imparting his great knowledge to me, really blessed to be fated to meet him in the temple. For those fated, spend some time with him, he'll share something which no ordinary people will see.

Four-Eight Highland is a remote coastal lookout with an elevation of 48 meters above sea level. Although officially closed due to unstable terrain, it still attracts visitors who enjoy the lovely view and take photos. Accessible by bicycle via a cycling route, the viewpoint offers panoramic vistas of the Pacific Ocean and is not well-known, allowing for a peaceful experience without crowds. Visitors can also explore a tunnel and flower garden nearby.
Free museum-like space. It’s a green space mostly with a large garden but underneath? There is a tunnel that was used as a fort so that makes it a 5 star. Plus, it’s FREE. You’ll spend 20-40 minutes here depending upon if you walk the tunnel.

Qixingtan Beach: A Pebble Paradise in Hualien Qixingtan Beach is a stunning coastal gem located in Hualien County, Taiwan. Renowned for its unique pebble shores and breathtaking ocean views, it's a popular destination for both locals and tourists. Key Features: Pebble Beach:Unlike traditional sandy beaches, Qixingtan is covered in smooth, rounded pebbles. This creates a distinctive atmosphere and texture that's ideal for leisurely walks or simply relaxing by the water. Panoramic Views:The beach offers panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, making it a great spot for watching sunrises and sunsets. The vast expanse of water and the rugged coastline create a truly awe-inspiring scene. Stargazing: Qixingtan is known for its excellent stargazing conditions. With minimal light pollution, visitors can enjoy clear views of the night sky and even spot the Milky Way. Water Activities: While swimming is not recommended due to strong currents, the beach is suitable for other water activities like surfing and paddleboarding. Nearby Attractions: Qixingtan is conveniently located near other popular attractions in Hualien, including Taroko Gorge National Park and the Qingshui Cliffs. Wear Comfortable Shoes:The pebble beach can be a bit rough on your feet, so it's best to wear comfortable shoes or sandals. Check Weather Conditions: While Qixingtan is beautiful in any weather, it's always a good idea to check the forecast before your visit. Bring Sunscreen and a Hat: The sun can be strong, especially during peak hours. Protect yourself by applying sunscreen and wearing a hat. Respect the Environment: Keep the beach clean and avoid littering. Respect the natural beauty of the area. Overall, Qixingtan Beach is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Hualien. Its unique charm, stunning scenery, and peaceful atmosphere make it a truly unforgettable experience.

Although officially closed due to the terrain being unstable, there were still a few people visiting and taking photos of the lovely view. The viewpoint can be easily reached by bicycle following the cycling route foe about 20min, depending how fast a rider you are. There's a path leading into the bushes which I suppose would eventually bring you to a spot where you can see the light house from the other side, but I couldn't find the path between all the bushes and plants. Definitely worth a stop if you're going to Ci Xing Tan anyway.

We had a hard time finding the trail. We drove all the way past it and went all the way to the top. So we had drive all the way back down. If you see a trail with many people walking and many traveling shuttles then you are in the right place. There is no parking area. They use one side of the road as parking. And the other one for cars to go forward. Tourist will need to stay on the parking side to avoid coming cars. The place is beautiful, worth going but just know there is many traveling tours. There is also a restroom and store there. They sell cakes, juice and coffee.

I also saw that they had some special stamps, which were given to somebody ahead of me, however, they didn’t want to give them to me and instead sent me to stamps that I alteady daw before. That was rude, beacouse we are also tourists. Why couldn’t we get them????

Lovely bike ride. Crystal clear lake. One thing I hate is the little black fly that bites. You won’t know they bite you until a day later. It leaves very very itchy red bumps. I wore shorts and both legs are covered in itchy red bumps. It’s day 5 and still itches and red!!! Please wear longs and put insects repellent on. You can Google about them and it’s very common in Taiwan. I think I was bitten in Taipei and Taichung too

(Translated by Google) I remember when I came to Hualien for the first time, I often came here to worship because I was nearby. It was also the first temple I came to Hualien to worship. This year, I still come to Fu'an Tuigong with my family to light up lanterns and pray for Tai Sui. The service staff are as usual , are very patient and help believers with services and answers. The temple staff are very kind, and the temple officials are also very kind. It is a popular Tuigong temple in Hualien City. There is a giant Tudigong statue on the second floor that is very conspicuous. You can ask for fortune-telling and ask questions, and you can also come here to replenish your luck in normal times. During the Lunar New Year, there are openings to replenish luck. Wu Caishen also provides some wealth lanterns and you can throw a cup to ask for the mother of money. Lord Tiger also offers believers to exchange for the mother of money. Usually, they light ten sticks of incense. , the temple is considerate of the believers and does not open the second floor for worship when it rains, so they light nine pillars of incense on rainy days. Attached is the Amnesty Day in 2025. If you have time, you can come and say hello to the Tudigong. The Tudigong loves mochi the most. There are also the most authentic traditional mochi nearby (but usually if there is a big festival, you have to call to make a reservation). During major festivals, the temple also puts on plays for the Earthly God to enjoy^^ (Original)

Finally found a good place for hot springs. A big spa complex with 4 different pools with different temperatures. They provide almost everything except a swimming hat (you can buy it there for 100twd). Totally recommend. 30min drive from taitung

Really nice hot springs — we went on a quiet day so it was extra enjoyable. The place is clean, and the water is pleasant. Make sure to bring your own swimwear and swim cap, otherwise you’ll need to buy them at the entrance. The area isn’t very big though, so it might get crowded on busy days.

Nice hot spring pool place with both cold and hot pools available. Even have a water slide, but it’s only for kids under 140 cm tho. The food is nice there, especially the beef noodle soup (because the soup bowl was humongous.

It's a brand new Hot Spring and future geothermal Electric Area. People are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is very good with creative as well as very tasty food. Very creative hot spring with cold water pool area and play area for kids. It's about less than 10 minutes away from the main road but worthwhile to go visit. It's surrounded by Mountain with beautiful sceneries.

The hot springs area is a little Paradise. The facilities and service are first class both for the spa and the restaurant. Importantly the water is directly from the natural hot spring and not just heated spring water. Its all well worth the journey and the expense

Jennifer L — Google review
The atmosphere of the hot springs was very peaceful and relaxing. The changing rooms were very clean. The pudding after the hot springs was delicious and a nice touch, although there was a bit of confusion about how to get it and who was joining the activity so I felt like this part could’ve been smoother. The time dedicated to each activity was about right for me although some people finished making the wreaths earlier and were waiting around for dinner. I feel that there could’ve been more proactive instruction and organisation during this craft session and perhaps it would be nice to do something connected with the local indigenous culture. The meal included various dishes that were all well-presented and well-introduced. I particularly liked the creative table decorations which brought some Christmas magic to the room. The atmosphere was a bit awkward at times with the music and some technical issues, but Santa Claus performed well and entertained the kids and adults in spite of those. I do think the organisation and overall smoothness of the day could have been better. The highlight was definitely the food, with a variety of dishes, using some new flavours and ingredients that I hadn’t tried before, although for me personally there was a bit too much and I felt very full by the end. However, there was the option to package the leftover food and take it away. The other highlight was hearing the Bunun children sing, along with an explanation of what each song was about. I felt that this was the most touching part of the day. Overall a good experience.

Theme park
Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village is a vast amusement park that showcases live performances by Taiwan's indigenous people and offers various rides. It can be accessed from Sun Moon Lake via the impressive Sun Moon Lake Ropeway, providing stunning views on the way to the park. Visitors are pleasantly surprised by the combination of adventure park thrills and rich history about the Formosan Aborigines. The outdoor museum displays different ethnicities of Taiwan, offering demonstrations of their traditional ways of life.
I had an absolutely amazing time here! From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the lively atmosphere and the beautiful scenery. The rides were thrilling, and the breathtaking views made the experience even more special. When I visited, the flowers were in full bloom, adding a vibrant splash of color to the surroundings. It was truly a sight to behold, making every moment feel magical. One of the best things about this place is that there are so many picturesque spots to take stunning photos. Whether you’re a fan of nature, amusement parks, or just looking for the perfect background for your pictures, this place has it all. Every corner was beautifully designed, making it a paradise for photography lovers. As for the attractions, there were plenty of rides to choose from, catering to all kinds of visitors, from thrill-seekers to those who just want to enjoy a relaxing day. But for me, the highlight was definitely the cable car—especially the Sakura cable car. The bottom of the car is transparent, allowing us to see everything below as we floated high above the breathtaking landscape. It was both exhilarating and mesmerizing, offering a completely unique perspective of the area. I couldn’t stop admiring the incredible view beneath my feet! Overall, this place is an absolute must-visit! Whether you’re coming with family, friends, or even on your own, there’s so much to see and do. I had so much fun and can’t wait to come back again for another unforgettable experience!

Great outing. Definitely recommend for at least half a day! Although it was very empty, it was a lot of fun. Not sure about the authenticity… The staff are very friendly and there is a lot to do! Great value for the ticket. They also accept student ids from outside of Taiwan.
Poseidonas — Google review
Went on a weekday afternoon. No queues for tickets, gondola and rides. Wear shorts and sandals for water rides. You’ll get wet. Lockers cost $20, and $99 for a raincoat. Might wanna get a cheaper one before coming. Once the fun is over do visit the cultural village for a glimpse into Formosan aboriginal history
Nasrul L — Google review
If you’re planning a trip around Sun Moon Lake, this place is definitely a nice add-on for a half or full-day visit. 🎢 Theme Park Side Surprisingly fun! There are roller coasters, a big drop tower, and some smaller rides, not huge like Universal, but enough to keep you entertained for a few hours. It’s quite family friendly too. If you go on weekdays, lines are usually short. 🏞️ Cultural Village This is the highlight. The shows are well done, especially the dance performances; they’re lively and meaningful. You can actually learn a lot about local aboriginal culture here. 🌸 European Garden Area A bit random but really pretty! There’s a European style castle, fountains, and flower gardens, perfect for taking photos. 🚠 Getting There Best way is by the Sun Moon Lake Ropeway — super scenic ride and drops you right at the park entrance. You can also drive or take a shuttle bus, but the cable car view is worth it. 🍱 Food & Tips Food options inside are decent, not too pricey for a theme park, though not gourmet either. Try to go early so you can catch both the rides and the shows. 💬 Overall Feel Honestly, it’s a nice blend of culture and fun. Great for travelers who like exploring cultural spots with a touch of adventure.
Cheiro T — Google review
We took the Sun Moon Lake Ropeway from Ita Thao to enter the park (highly recommend). The park was both incredibly entertaining and informational. As someone that was unfamiliar with Formosan Aboriginal history, I enjoyed the cultural exhibits and showcases. The staff were very friendly.
Jonathan P — Google review
Avoid at all cost especially with small kids und er a hight of 130cm and over 100cm. There are hardly any rides for that hight yet you still have to pay . In general the park costs way more than it's worth. Even as an adult the rides deliver very little with many rides being closed at random times throughout the admitting short opening hours The other thing that I found to be quiet weird is the disconnect between the name of the place and it's actual theme, there's nothing aboriginal about the Spaniards, Alladin, space mountain or Aloha a dinosaur theme ride which was out of order. Do not go here this place is a tourist scam it's not worth it and is best to be avoided
Ilan K — Google review
The water theme park was not packed. You could ride the rides a couple of times. The place looks magical. I would go back

Located in Hualien, the Manbo Ocean Ecological Leisure Park is a stunning garden that was once a military site. It now offers breathtaking mountain and ocean views from its observation deck. The park is adorned with vibrant flowers, making it a picturesque spot for nature enthusiasts. Accessible from Si Fang Ba Di and Seven Star Beach/Lake, this beautiful garden provides an opportunity to immerse oneself in the natural beauty of the area.

Beach
Qixingtan Beach is a stunning natural attraction in Taiwan, known for its sweeping swimming area where the mountains meet the sea. The beach offers dramatic views of the coastline and distant mountains, with trails and pavilions for visitors to enjoy. The incredibly blue water and fine sand make it a comfortable spot to relax under the sun. While not ideal for swimming due to its rocky terrain and strong waves, the beach's unique pebble formations create a captivating backdrop.
Just loved it... The colour of the sea water, the mountains, the pebbles..... This place is just full of peace 🕊️ and marvelous beauty 😍...
Ananya P — Google review
Very windy and sunny! Think we gotten a sunburn here. But it was so fun walking along the beach, finding the perfect pebble. The toilet was closed at that time, so be aware of your toilet needs. There's an old lady selling snacks by the carpark too if you want to buy snacks.
L ( — Google review
Really wonderful beach. The highland is an especially beautiful part. Be careful of the lady who is renting bicycles though, they are in terrible condition. Choose the cycles with wider tyres. The ones with thinner tyres are susceptible to punctures. Check brakes and tyre pressure as well. There is a restaurant on the beach but we didn't have time to try it out.
Rahul K — Google review
A good place to relax, but swimming is not possible due to dangerous waves and currents.
Josef P — Google review
Relaxing and beautiful stone beach. Not much else to do here, but the experience of just watching such a great view and watching and hearing the waves coming in was pretty awesome. Even the mountains surrounding the area were pretty nice
Ronnie F — Google review
A beach in Hualien that's facing the Pacific Ocean. The waves are really strong here, so swimming is not advisable. It's near the airport so fighter jets come across from time to time. The visitor center doesn't open up until 10AM. It's nice to go here via bike and follow the biking trail.
Marc J — Google review
Beautiful beach with crystal clear water. Make sure you take your own shade as there is none on the beach ⛱️ nice town to look around after you have had an afternoon on the beach. Cafes and restaurants here as well as a family store. Nice place to spend the morning or afternoon
Chloe R — Google review
I was here a few months ago and I also have been in many other beaches in Taiwan. The few words that I would like to describe this beach are folksy, pebbly and spacious. Since this beach is something that better to sightsee and enjoy the landscape from another side of Hualien mountains rather than swimming or doing water activities. You can try to build the rock tower as high as you can and take many photos with good natural colors. I’d rate this as 7/10 for a seashore to visit.
