Night market
Feng Chia Night Market, also known as Wenhua Night Market, is Taichung's largest and most popular night market. Established in 1963, it offers a bustling atmosphere with a variety of vendors selling food, clothing, accessories, and other goods. The market has expanded to include shops along Wen-hua street, Fengjia street, Fushin road, Xian street and more.
The food was delicious & cheap. Kiddos were enjoying the food too much, they didn't complain at all about eating while standing up the whole time. There were too many options to choose from. Although there was a language barrier, we managed just fine to order and purchase all the food.
Karina A — Google review
Tried quite a few things there, quite a variety. Not much game stalls. Most memorable from this night market is the chicken thigh roll that no one was queuing! Sausage frm the famous 大肠包小肠stall was also yummy! Pepper bun was nt bad only despite long queue.. their grape vinegar was nice and refreshing though. Sweet potato balls was ok only too, despite another long queue stall. Master of tea at the start of night market is very good.
Juan J — Google review
First visit, not overly crowded and can shop to your heart content. Things that I feel worth trying out were the fried milk stall (crispy on the outside but soft like tauhu milk filling inside). Huang ji sesame oil chicken soup, the soup was superb but too bad no 🍚 option. Another shop which tickle my tastebud was china street food dried vegetable pancake. Thin slice of pancake stuffed with "mui choy" crispy and savoury.
Lee C — Google review
This is such a well-rounded night market ,it has everything from food stalls, hole in the wall restaurants to clothing/ shoe shops, plus a few carnival and claw machine arcades. I’d recommend going earlier; we arrived around 6 p.m. and didn’t have enough time to see it all. Although it’s busy, the pathway is wider than most, making it easier to move around somewhat lol. There’s even a garbage bag near the front of the market (a rare find, haha). The washroom is located in a nearby plaza — just follow the signs downstairs — but do bring your own tissue paper. I also suggest exploring the area around the night market, as there are plenty of shops and restaurants. We took the HSR to Taichung Station and then an Uber, which took about 25 minutes. Don’t forget to bring cash!
Happy L — Google review
Feng Jia Night Market is one of those places where you walk in thinking you will just try a few snacks and end up eating nonstop because everything looks too good to miss. The food variety is amazing. I got grilled skewers, crispy chicken, fresh fruit drinks and some random bites that I couldn’t even name but tasted amazing. The smell of the stalls and the sizzling sounds really pull you in. The crowd is lively but the flow is smooth so you can walk around without feeling stuck. Prices are friendly and portions are generous which makes it even more fun to try many things. It is a great spot to snack, explore and enjoy the whole night market vibe. If you love street food or want to experience the energy of Taichung, this place is definitely a must visit.
Acsahh C — Google review
There are tons of famous local snacks around, and one of my favorites is the takoyaki! The grilled chicken chop takes about 18 minutes to cook but honestly tastes pretty average. The Taiwanese sausage wrap (big sausage wrapped around a small one) was super filling, not particularly special in flavor, but I just had to try it since it’s such a classic. The Matsusaka pork was tender and delicious, and the sweet potato balls were so addictive I couldn’t stop popping them one after another! There were still so many yummy things I wanted to try, but my stomach just gave up too soon.
Cheiro T — Google review
Fengchia Night Market in Taichung was super fun! There were so many different foods and snacks to try — everything looked and smelled amazing. It was a bit far from our hotel near Taichung Train Station, and we got a little lost trying to figure out the bus, so we just took an Uber in the end. But honestly, it was totally worth it. Great vibes, great food, and a really fun night overall! ✨
Natasha — Google review
Located in Taichung city very near the Fengchia university, this night market had had lots of different type of food...grilled oysters, sea food , beef, scallions pancakes etc etc. Long queues for at least 30% of the stores here. Check it out and I will be coming back next year again.

Nestled in the heart of Taichung, Maple Garden is a delightful urban oasis that offers a refreshing escape from the bustling city life. This charming green space spans 3 hectares and features a picturesque U-shaped layout, complete with a serene pond teeming with fish and turtles. Visitors can meander along winding paths surrounded by vibrant red trees and lush grass, making it an ideal spot for leisurely strolls or quiet moments of reflection.
Very well designed city park. The park are located into a depress where a pond took the centre stage. Geese, turtle and fish populated the pond. Music will be heard through the speaker in the heart shaped building. They purposely pump water uphill to create a stream for you to enjoy the sight and sound. Some path are created via stones or wood chips giving you another terrain experience. Because large luxury apartment nearby, the sun was shielded. You could be at the pond edge but it's well shaded . Love the red bridge on the pond , creating certain aesthetic to the whole dimension. Only nit pick is it lacked of playground for kids to monkey around.
Mark O — Google review
It features a central lake with red bridges, eco-friendly walking trails, and beautiful day-to-night scenery. Originally intended for construction, the site was transformed into a green space with flood control functions. It’s ideal for walking, jogging, picnics, photography, and birdwatching. The garden combines nature, relaxation, and sustainable urban design, making it a popular spot for both locals and visitors.
Purity B — Google review
Really enjoyed zenning out here. Came around noon when most of the grass was still within the shadow and I laid outside and looked up at the sky. Very relaxing and a fun place to take photos and see cool birds. Would highly recommend visiting. Bring some water though. If youre out for long you'll get dehydrated. Bathrooms were nice. Accessible washroom available. Sold TP 10元 for 2包

It is a beautiful park to have a nice walk. I personally think it really cool that it is submerged to the street level. It makes it a great escape from the city noise.

A beautiful garden to represent the green culture of TaiChung. A nice short walk for a change of environment while seeing different sorts of animals like swans and turtles! Once you check out the place, you'll definitely want to support their cause and insight on the environment!

A very small but beautifull park with small water body inside it. Great place for morning walks and having some quite me times.
Tarun M — Google review
It’s a hidden gem in the center of the city! We saw beautiful geese and birds! Had a nice relaxing time observing the birds and walking around. There’s a parking station right next to the park; very convenient! A hit while visiting Taichung this time!
Judy H — Google review
This is quite a wondrous place to visit. It is the only ecological park in Taiwan formed by digging deep into the ground. It's also an ideal place for many who have inclinations for a nice Taichung city view. No matter which season it is, walking in the Maple Garden is a visual enjoyment! You should definitely pay a visit to the infamous Daily greens, Kyoto. A tea house made from an old sake barrel! And yes the sky there is visually deep blue.

Nestled amidst the modern skyline of Taichung, the National Taichung Theater is a stunning architectural marvel that captivates visitors with its unique design and vibrant atmosphere. This contemporary venue, crafted by renowned architect Toyo Ito in collaboration with artist Cecil Balmond, features flowing concrete walls that create an enchanting interior reminiscent of a giant egg. Inside, you'll discover diverse performance spaces hosting an array of shows, alongside art exhibitions and cozy bookstores.
I had a great experience at the National Taichung Theater. The architecture is stunning and very modern—just walking around inside felt like being in a work of art. Even without watching a show, it was worth the visit for the design alone. Definitely a must-see in Taichung!

Beautiful architecture to explore even if you’re not coming to watch a concert. The shops on the ground floor sell is something to check out if you want to buy a souvenir. Also, there’s a cafe and observation deck on the top floor which has great views of the city.

Great design and good looking architecture. One of the landmarks and tourist attractions in Taichung. We spent some time inside and at the top, admiring the beauty and elegance of the building.

I went here for the cafe and it had more to offer than I expected. The coffee was so good. The theater has a art and craft space (I think, IDK how they call it) but they have many high quality wooden miniatures, felt animals, handmade souviners for quite affordable prices. But if you don't drink coffe or buy anything, you can still vosit for free

Located across from a large park and next to Intercontinental Hotel. This mall isn’t very big, but it does have a surprisingly spacious bookstore. It’s impressive to see so many books, especially in today’s digital age. They also sell vinyl records and turntables, which are quite rare to find in stores these days. There are several clothing shops, cosmetics, parfume (a lot of) and cute stationery stores. You’ll also find a large bakery, a few restaurants, and some food stalls. This mall is pet friendly.
Tessa W — Google review
It’s just an average mall in a big name location: it’s small, but does have a decent 誠品 bookstore; otherwise just go to Mitsukoshi or 大遠百 if you actually need to buy something.

One of my favorite department stores in Taichung, for its size and location, and also for the Thai/Vietnamese Noodle Restaurant downstairs, which has 5 choices of fabulous Tom Yam and Pho soups that are very satisfying and balanced. La Vida Hotel is a modern and stylish business hotel located in Taichung's Xitun District, just a short 2-minute walk from Fengchia Night Market. The hotel offers streamlined, Nordic-style guestrooms with elegant decor and premium stone materials. Guests can enjoy amenities such as a gym, dining options, and conference facilities. The location on a busy commercial street provides easy access to the vibrant atmosphere of the night market and nearby shops.
This is the best hotel I've ever been. The room is clean with full complimentary items for convenience. The room and bathroom are large with a hot tub, closet, bidet toilet (although in Japanese) , and a bolted down safe. Its location is next to the college night market, offering entertainment, food, and nearby convenient stores. The hotel offers exquisite varieties for breakfast, gym, complimentary tea time with games for kids, and a beautiful quiet garden. No unwanted insects here! Staff were courteous, professional, knowledgeable, and able to speak English. Secure elevator access added extra sense of safety and peace of mind. Having been a hotel manager myself, this hotel is easily a 5 star rating. I highly recommend this hotel to fellow foreigners traveling to Taichung, Taiwan. Book your room early and enjoy. To hotel staff: Great work and keep it up. You've earned my trust.

Hotel breakfast was good and we enjoyed the games corner at the lobby, it was a nice concept to have marble games in the games corner… we took out food from the night market and had it at the lobby area and it was comfortable and perfect location for this… perhaps the games room could be open till later without any snacks for hotel guests to take out night market food back to eat… hotel was really near the night market… rooms were slightly old but otherwise comfortable … lack of power sockets though and strange design where we could not position our plug properly without an adaptor due to the table design

Room need to check more air condition or cleaning carpet as cause smelly in room but all receptionist is very professional to handle with client need and offer good /better option if client complain or report thank you so much for everyone services good location not far from tourist attraction recommended

The area was great 3mins walk to fengchia night market. Parking was good. If you drive 9 seater van; they have a big parking space for you. Only 1min walk to the hotel. Breakfast is also good. If you travel to Taichung; please try to stay La Vida Hotel.
Antonio W — Google review
My main issue w this hotel was the showerhead. The water literally sprays in all directions. While i adjusted the heater to a suitable temperature, it will automatically turn very hot suddenly when i did not further adjust it. If you need travel adaptor can rent from them at 100 NTD deposit. NO free bottled water - need to refill at their water dispenser which ran out of water at one occasion which i wanted to refill water. NO toothbrush/toothpaste/razor provided. For this price i am paying, i expected more. But location is good near night market with lots of food, so paying for good location and nearby convenience. I paid for two rooms (same room type) but they had different layout one is better than the other. Including the toilet.
Lee Z — Google review
Hotel was clean, and staff were friendly and helpful. Room came with breakfast and the spread was a decent surprise. Hotel is within walking distance to Feng Jia night market, went there every night during our stay.. Really convenient place to find food. Experienced an earthquake on the last night of our stay.. The shaking woke my wife, but I remained fast asleep. Hotel is still standing strong 👍
Yeu F — Google review
We stayed at La Vida for 3 nights. The room was clean and comfortable. As we are traveling with a newborn, the hotel kindly provided us with a baby cot, baby bathtub and bottle steriliser. All the baby items were already in the room when we checked in. Fengjia Night Market was just 5 minutes away, which makes it really convenient for us. There is also a coin laundry just opposite, and we were able to do our laundry during our stay at a very affordable price. 10/10 would recommend, and we would definitely choose La Vida if we were to visit Taichung again in the future.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Although the room had no windows facing the street, it was large and comfortable. The room was kept clean and made up daily. Breakfast was with good variety although the menu didn't change from one day to the next. The hotel is just a couple of streets from Feng Chia night market making it super convenient. We enjoyed our stay here.

**edit** visited the restaurant again a year later. They renovated. It's still an insane amount of food. 😂 There were four of us and we ordered the four person set and it was an insane amount of food. There was lots and lots of meat! The banchan was unlimited but tasty. The overall quality of the food was great. The popcicle for dessert was amazing. The service was good. Our server was friendly and helpful. She cooked up all the meat for us that we couldn't finish and wrapped them up. However she was standing and serving us in an awkward position (at the end of our table on the same side as the next table). She got in the way of us teaching for our food. It's not a big deal as she was really nice but it's something the restaurant can improve. We would come back here again!

Chinese noodle restaurant
Taiwanese restaurant
Shandong Dumplings and Noodles is a must-visit spot in Miyahara, Taichung. Indulge in over 50 flavors of ice cream filled with various toppings at the quaint ice cream shop nestled among the main stores. While there, savor the flavorful Hong Shao beef noodle soup, although it may be slightly salty for some palates. For those with a more delicate taste, other broth bases are available.
I had the single most best bowl of beef noodles (soup) in my entire life in this lovely eatery. I ordered the Sichuan spicy soup beef noodles which was bursting with umami without being over-powering. They had a little kiosk to allow you to add condiments like vinegar, chopped garlic and spring onions, amongst other things - ALL FOR FREE!!! SHAME ON YOU HAI DI LAO AND BEAUTY IN A POT!!!!!!!!!! The xiao long bao was also extremely well done which I thought was as good as ding tai fung. They were juicy, delicious, moreish balls of flavourful pork all encapsulated in very thin skins of dough - LOVE!!

Delicious beef noodle soup. The Hong Shao beef 紅燒牛肉麵noodle soup was delicious but it's a bit on the salty side. For those who have a more delicate palate I'd recommend one of the other broth bases. The beef roll 牛肉捲is excellent but the soup dumplings 小籠湯包were only average despite being a recommended item. Will come back next time for some delicious 🐄🍜

Absolutely lovely stay at this hotel. We’ll definitely be back. The rooms are clean, spacious and luxurious. I adored the bathtub and separate rain shower! The view is gorgeous and the little touches made such a difference (like they had stocked the fridge with a coke can with my name on it! 🤩). Good service and everyone spoke Chinese and English very well. The fitness center is small but very nice, with towels and water available, and high-end machines. Adored spending time by the pool and the breakfast buffet was 🤤 out of this world. Can’t wait to go back.

Worst Hotel in Taiwan for Business Travelers June 2025 I only take time to share the best and the worst. I tried this hotel because of its proximity to our international branch office located in Taichung NTC (National Trade Center), which is right next to this hotel. Over the past twenty plus years of business travel to Taiwan, LIN is undoubtedly the worst hotel I have ever experienced. It is simply not a hotel for business travelers for the following reasons: 1. No USB port to charge the iPhone. This hotel stays in the last century still. 2. Even in the top-notch corner executive suite (#2124), the internet is unbearably slow, making it impossible to work. 3. The executive lounge is important for business travelers to wind down after a long day of work. Unlike many popular loyalty programs such as Marriott Bonvoy and IHG One Rewards, the executive lounge at LINS is simply a joke: a. Who in the right mind would put happy hour from 3-5PM, purposely putting business travelers out of reach?! b. The executive lounge on the top floor is not open most of the time. Instead, the bar on the 1st floor is used. The bar is nowhere near the comfort of the executive lounge. Worst of all, the food is controlled by the bar attender. One has to literally beg for some lousy finger sandwiches and bowl of salad. The main course for happy hour is usually one cheap dish like fried noodle. 4. It is important for business travelers to have the flexibility to change the schedule whenever needed. Over the past twenty plus years traveling in Taiwan, I have never had problem checking out earlier when business emergency calls for. However, I was not allowed to check out earlier w/o full payment, even when I gave plenty of advance notice. They simply ignore the difference between deposit and final payment and charge full payment upfront, thereby keeping guess hostage with money. Both my travel agent and Corporate travel director got involved, but in vain. We ended up checking out earlier with full payment, but blocking this hotel from our Corporate travel list going forward. In general, this hotel is all about profit, without regard to international business practice and standard. The front desk staff are simply rude as they have to defend un-defendable frequently. The breakfast buffet is chaotic, just like hungry peasants fighting for large selections of cheap food. It is not a hotel of class where guess will be treated with decency. It is a total embarrassment to the city and great people of Taichung. Dr. Z

The Lin Hotel in Taichung truly deserves its reputation as one of the city’s most prestigious five-star accommodations. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the grand and elegant architecture that immediately conveyed a sense of luxury. The hotel’s expansive grounds are beautifully designed, offering not only a spacious outdoor pool but also a charming green garden area, which is an ideal setting for weddings or outdoor events. The atmosphere is both serene and majestic, making every moment feel special. The staff were extremely professional and attentive, always ready to provide warm and efficient service. My room was remarkably spacious, tastefully decorated, and very comfortable. The soft carpeted floor added a cozy touch, making it especially pleasant to walk barefoot. Although my room did not include a balcony, the full-length glass windows provided a stunning view of the city, bringing in natural light that created a bright and welcoming environment. The bathroom was equally impressive, equipped with modern fixtures and high-quality amenities that enhanced the overall experience. Every detail reflected the hotel’s commitment to luxury and guest satisfaction. Another highlight of my experience was the breakfast area, decorated in vibrant green tones that created a fresh and welcoming ambiance. The buffet selection was outstanding, with a wide range of choices from Asian specialties to Western favorites, ensuring that every guest could find something to enjoy. Overall, my stay at The Lin Hotel was nothing short of delightful. With its magnificent setting, excellent facilities, and top-tier service, I can confidently say that I was more than satisfied and will definitely return in the future.

The rooms are big and comfortable for a solo/family traveller. A huge work desk and lots of space. However one issue that I see is that the toilet and bathroom doors have a glass door and so only one person or intimate ones can use it at a time. One can't go for a bath while the other is brushing. The breakfast buffet was big and had a good spread. You can easily spend a week here without getting bored. But it is the same items in the buffet everyday. The in-house TV can be better. It only has screen mirroring capability, and using phone and TV together is a pain. Being a smart tv id all standard apps like Youtube, Netflix are installed, we can cast to those applications, rather than mirroring screens. The rooms were cleaned everyday perfectly and condiments refilled regularly. The location is also perfect with access to shops and all utilities.

This is an absolutely stunning 5-star hotel that will give you resort vibes even though it is in downtown Taichung. The staff were above & beyond helpful. The facilities are breathtaking & the breakfast was on another level. 🫶🏻✨

We had to extend our stay last minute due to severe rain and flood risks, and the Front Desk team — especially Ms. Rebecca Chi and Mr. Jerry Huang - provided exceptional support. They were professional, patient, and proactive in helping us secure rooms during a busy national holiday period, offering the best rates and timely updates despite our changing situation. Their care and empathy, especially knowing we were travelling with my elderly mum, truly made a stressful situation so much easier. Thank you for the outstanding service — highly recommended, and we will definitely return!

Overall it’s an over priced hotel in Taichung! I stayed 6 nights with breakfast. The room I had was a suite, the size was ok. Over the 6 nights, they only had charges 1 bed sheets, I called a couple of times for extra toilet paper. They’re rated for a 5 star hotel but it’s more like a Holiday inn 4 stars suite in US. Their breakfast restaurant was big, including 5-10 styles dim sums, porridge with 5-10 pickle dishes, salad bar, fruit bar n desert bar, egg bacon section and some Taiwanese cold plates on the back, every section usually had a staff with chef dress behind. A buffet style breakfast but most of the time it’s empty n not reloaded, chefs were either not there or busy on their phones. I had to stand n wait or ask for things. I personally don’t prefer this treat from a 5 star hotel especially the price they charge in Taichung . It’s out from my list from now on.

Market
Yizhong Street Night Market is a bustling and trendy night market located in the heart of Taichung. It's a popular spot for students, with its proximity to several universities. The market offers a wide variety of food stalls catering to the local student population, as well as fashionable items and night market games. Despite being lively, it's not overwhelmingly crowded, making it an accessible and enjoyable experience for visitors.
One of the most well known and popular night markets in Taichung, with various stores selling food and clothes. Tried the famous chicken steak deep fried and fried egg pancake, delicious.

Not many food shops. We tried the steamed gyoza, the oden, the hakaho, all pretty good. One thing that spoil the evening is the constant fight with motorbikes. Taichung please do like Japan or Vietnam ,place barriers and guards at all access points so that we can safely enjoy our evenings.

Highly recommend: 1. Watermelon juice - guy behind just keeps chopping and blending the entire time we queue, which moves fast but always constant. 2. Angel fried kitchen - salt and pepper flavour was our favorite. Very long queue so expect to wait at least 15min. 3. Smelly tofu - you will smell it from afar, and also hear the lady shouting for queue numbers. The queue speaks for itself. There are some indoor seats but you can get it for takeaway. There's only S for 5pieces and L for 8pieces. So good we had that twice in row. 4. Traditional peanut pancake / mee Jiang kueh - the peanut sauce is fan-flipping-tastic (pun intended). Get the sesame peanut butter mixed flavor to get the best of both worlds. They even offer a less sweet version!

A night market close to my hotel. It was a smaller night market as compared to Fengjia and is mostly frequented by students. Still, there is delicious food to be found there. Can visit this place if you have extra time, otherwise I would recommend that you visit Fengjia Night Market instead.

This is a huge night street market in Taichung! You can find lots of the usual Taiwan street food fare here including stinky tofu, fried mushrooms, grilled beef cubes, refreshing watermelon drinks (in the summer) and more. “Angel chicken” is especially famous here and there was a long queue ~15 min for a HUGE piece of Taiwan fried chicken. It was average in taste but the portion was indeed massive. The vibe was energetic, lively, and we even saw a couple of street performers when we visited. The location is really good for shopping — Lining the streets are also trendy clothes and accessories stores that open til late to cater to the younger crowds. If you head north and to the main road (Sanmin Rd), you can easily get to Chungyo Department store for even more mainstream shopping options too. For those interested in thrifting and vintage wear, there are lots of such stores in the southern end (Alley 5, Lane 19, Taiping Rd on Google Maps). Or you can search for a few of these stores: 公主毛病, 星期一古著/Blue Monday, mushroom_division.

Nestled in the heart of Taichung, Taichung Park stands as the city's oldest urban oasis, inviting visitors to unwind amidst its lush greenery. This expansive park features a picturesque manmade lake that mirrors the beauty of Sun Moon Lake, offering stunning views—especially enchanting at night when illuminated. As you stroll along its pathways, you'll encounter tennis courts and playgrounds perfect for families seeking leisure activities.
One of the most beautiful parks in Taichung, it is quite spacious with a lake in the center and various facilities such as restrooms and a playground. There is also a bridge 👍🏻 There are quite a lot of animals here, such as birds, squirrels, and fish 🐹🐦🪿🐶🐱🐟 It is very child-friendly and accessible for people in wheelchairs. One of the recreational spots I highly recommend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

A great park in the heart of the city, within walking distance from Taichung Main Train Station. There are various walkways, making it enjoyable to roam freely among the trees, near the lake, among rest areas and numerous artworks. It feels full of hidden spots and shady areas to relax or hide. You can also easily spot squirrels, which kids will love. The park has clean toilets, and it's also a pleasant place for pet owners to take a walk.

Miyahara is a renowned ice cream parlor located in a beautifully restored historic building with a rich past. Once an ophthalmology clinic during the Japanese colonial period, it later served as a health clinic before falling into disrepair. Today, it houses Dawn Cake, famous for its pineapple cakes and sweet treats. The elegant space features original red brick walls and archways, offering specialty ice cream flavors like kumquat lime and Sri Lankan black tea.
Delicious ice cream! I got a sundae, and the tea flavour was refreshing and fragrant. The chocolate strawberry flavour was rich and tasty. The floral citrus cake that came with the sundae was so good I almost bought a box to take home with me. Also a great spot to buy souvenirs. Well worth a visit!
M R — Google review
What a beautiful place for tourists to buy souvenirs back. The overall concept is interesting where they focused on confectionaries packed in book/CD/nicely drawn design boxes to create the atmosphere of back to the old days. A little pricey for the items but somehow you just have to buy a few back for your friends. We tried a cup of tea which the staff took time to create it. The tea taste was really good with flowery smell and taste. The tapioca pearls were soft. A nice touch to an unsweetened tea. Next visit, will go for the ice cream. Be prepared to stand to savor them.

We got here right at opening at 10am on a Thursday. We were 2nd in line. There were too many ice cream flavors to choose from, at least 50 flavors. We were not offered any samples. We settled on 2, tea flavored scoops in a waffle cup. With each scoop you have a choice of a free topping. Got a flower cake and a cheese cake as recommended by the staff. Good ice cream but nothing to rave about. There is no seating area inside so we ate our ice cream by the planters right outside. They have another shop not too far away that has lots of dining area and you can see them making fresh waffle cups. Right next door to this location is the famous building where the interior looks like a scene from Harry Potter. No food is allowed inside. A nice place for souvenirs or photo ops.

A Hogwartz-like sweets shop which attracts more visitors than any other shops nearby. It’s pretty cool as you visit but all the items inside are pretty overpriced. There’s a second floor where you can dine in for an afternoon tea or ice cream. Note the minimal spending per person for the sit down restaurant is NT500, including children. We wanted to try the ice cream since that’s what we came for, but the line was wrapped around like you are in Disney. As we were about to give up hope, we heard a staff was walking around the line to offer to-go ice cream tubes (1-serving size). I mean, it is definitely not as fancy as ones you’d get from the counter but we thought for the time we’d saved, it’s worth a try. We got the strawberry, caramel chocolate and mango. They were all delicious! Give it a try if waiting in line isn’t your thing.

Miyahara is a beautiful spot with stunning interior decor that makes the visit feel special. The coffee and ice cream are excellent—rich, flavorful, and definitely worth trying. The ice cream, in particular, never disappoints. The only downside was that the drinks took a bit longer to arrive than expected. Still, overall, it’s a great place to relax and enjoy quality treats.
Miranda K — Google review
This place is very hyped, and I think it’s somewhat worth it. Thankfully there wasn’t a long line when I went, which was before noon on a weekday. Still, they had a lot of customers. Anyway, I think depending on what flavors you get, it can be a hit or a miss. I got three scoops, but I think they gave me an extra one to try. It had raisins in it. I liked it. I’m not sure. I got black sesame latte (10/10), Tieguanyin (or Tieh-Kuan-Yin) tea (9/10), and Pistachio (8/10). It was a lot of ice cream and toppings. It’s delicious. Overall, I’d give it an 9/10. If you’re going alone, just get 1-2 scoops after figuring out the flavor you like. It will fill you up.

Whenever in Taichung, this is a must visit destination. Visited a few times, always enjoyed the experience. From the ice cream parlor to browsing through their souvenir merch to lunches / tea time on the 2nd floor. There's plenty of history here and an immersive experience. The food is actually quite good. The ice cream here was unbelievable. It is attached to the confectionary store, which is great for souvenirs, but really, you should be coming here for the ice cream. Taichung Second Market is an indoor market that has been around since the Japanese Colonial Era, serving as a trading hub for various commodities. Today, it's a popular spot for both locals and tourists to enjoy delicious local food during the day. The market offers a variety of traditional dishes such as Braised Minced Pork Rice, soup noodles, dry noodles, Japanese cuisine, sweet tofu, and tapioca desserts.
Old and dated market with couple souvenir, fruit, clothing, etc… along outside of the market. Most food stalls are in the middle and one side of the market. Good place to eat locals food for great price.

Personally I like this market. It’s always been a thing for me to visit the local market to have a good feel of their lifestyle. I find the market a unique experience for me. You can find what you would normally find it a market. There’s also plenty of food options available. I’ve tried braised pork rice and sashimi. I think it really got a good CP value. Should I return to Taichung again, I would probably visit this again as well as giving myself more time to explore surrounding neighbourhood.

This market is as traditional and authentic as it gets. 😍 This is definitely a one-stop shop for tourists as well as locals to come and get everything they need, from produce and vegetables all the way to good food. The establishments that receive good reviews for their amazing dishes will not disappoint. I think coming here is definitely a pit stop for those who are in Taichung for a short period to indulge in a foodie haven. Explore every nook and cranny you can, and the ones that garner a long queue will not disappoint.

Taichung second market has a very local charm, featuring both wet market and a wide variety of food stalls. It comes highly recommended by locals, especially for their famous 山河卤肉饭. We gave it a try and were pleasantly surprised. The flavour was well balanced - not too salty and not too overly sweet. The best part was the meat wasn't overly fatty, making it lighter and easier to eat. Overall, the market offer a great selection of local delicacies, along with a japanese stall selling a range of sushi and even sashimi, which adds to the variety. It's a great apot to explore and an excellent place for breakfast if you wan authentic local experience

For a rainy a Sunday, it was just ok. Many vendors were closed. The busiest stalls were the food vendors. There is definitely a lot of variety. One area had the heavy smell of urine right by a number of the eateries. It didn’t seem very touristy as the prices were reasonable. Compared to the Sixth Market, this is not a fancy place. Set your expectations as low as possible.

Not your typical night market. More like a traditional market. Can be wet and slippery. It’s a round in case you get lost. There is a beverage stall there that sells red tea and all. The tea may be too sweet for us, non-locals. 😆 can try their kind of breakfast, yam cake with egg. I feel can give it a miss and try other breakfast spots.

Arashi Braised Minced Pork Shop is a cozy restaurant tucked away in an alley of Taichung food market. They are known for their signature Arashi sauce, a Taiwanese braised minced pork sauce that pairs well with various dishes. One of their popular offerings is the combination soup featuring wonton, meat roll, fish ball, and radish, along with a flavorful sliced pork stew served on rice.
📍 ᴀʀᴀꜱʜɪ ʙʀᴀɪꜱᴇᴅ ᴍɪɴᴄᴇᴅ ᴘᴏʀᴋ - If you're in Taichung and craving authentic Taiwanese braised pork rice, Arashi Braised Minced Pork is an absolute must-visit! Established in 1992, this shop has won multiple awards, including recognition in Taichung’s Top 500 Dishes. Nestled in the bustling Second Market, it’s a local favorite, known for its rich flavors and traditional cooking techniques. Some say the minced pork here is lean yet flavorful, perfectly balanced between sweet and savory. Seating is limited, so it’s best to arrive before 11 AM to avoid the peak lunch crowd—otherwise, be prepared to wait forever! Ordering is straightforward: grab a plastic order card near the counter, mark your choices, pay, and receive a table number. The process is efficient, and despite the constant flow of customers, the staff remains friendly and accommodating.

Minced meat is nice. To order, need to indicate on red or green menu (for dine in or takeaway). For dine in, they will give you a number. When called, then make payment and seats will be allocated. The place is busy and there's waiting time, so be prepared.

One of the best braised pork rice I had in Taiwan! This shop is quite near the back entrance of Taichung Second Market and couldnt be missed. Quite long queue with the option to take out, but they have a system for you to collect a number to wait for your seat to dine in, hence freeing you up to shop elsewhere while waiting. I waited around 20 mins on a Sunday morning at 11am for a table for 5. Portion for the rice and noodles were decent and small-ish, but that is quite normal in Taiwan. Great to share and hop around to eat more. Tried the minced pork noodles with a chicken roll (意面+鸡卷), meatball rice (肉丸仔饭), minced pork rice (肉燥饭) as well as sliced pork rice (梅花肉饭). My favourite were the sliced pork rice and the minced pork rice. The sliced pork were tender and nicely marinated. The minced pork also have a nice ratio of pork and fat, which melts in your mouth. Love it! The meatballs, however, were abit dry and bland for me. The noodles were also dry and slightly disappointing. For the drier dishes, what saved them were their delicious houseblend plum(?) sauce. Not sure whats in them but they were great and savoury with a nice plum flavour which is fragrant and not too overwhelming. They sell them on the side and its a great addition to the braised pork rice as well. Service is quite fast and ordering was easy with a check list to fill in. As the queue were getting longer, they do expect you to order quickly and provide concise replies to any questions, all nice and polite. Overall, no complaints and would absolutely go back for their braised minced pork rice!

Good rooms, clean and wide bathrooms. Accomodating and friendly staff. But there was a bug on my bed. I'm glad it wasn't a bedbug, though. Other than that, everything is good.

Stayed here for 9 nights and it was very peaceful and quiet in the room. Yes you can hear the karaoke singing in the pantry area but that's about it. The room and bathrooms were clean all the time, with wet and dry section for shower. The staffs were friendly. The location is directly below a bus stop where you can take bus to almost anywhere in taichung.

I traveled to Taichung to visit my firend. And for some reason I was a bit under the weather, sleep a bit too deep and rush catch the last minute to check out. But after that, while I was resting in the lobby, reception come to told me that after check out I was not allowed to charge my device and even use the toliet. I mean Taiwan is pretty convenient, most 7-11s have toliet and there are charging place at the train station, which is very close. But I feel sad about their hostile, snobby approach. There are plently hostel with similar price point around this area, I'd recommend to try somewhere else.

I like the hostel. But unfortunately they don’t allow you to charge your phone in the lobby after you checked out and waiting for a friend there 😔

I love this Inn, even though the location quite sketchy and quite hard to find but, you eventually will find the lift that leads you to the inn. Location was good, easily access bus stations and nearby the 2nd market which people said has good breakfasts (unfortunately I didn't visit here) The service was good, the receptionist was nice and the greatest thing is they have a DOG. I fell in love, one thing for sure, if you get food with you, it will keep begging and giving you puppy eyes, but please DO NOT feed the dog. Onto the room, I booked female dorm, and I couldn't find anything to complain about, it's clean, it's fresh, it spacious with good curtains and lighting and locker. Toilet and shower room is also nice and clean, they provide toiletries, shampoo, soap, tooth paste, towel, tooth brush, glass, and hairdryer. I just love this full service kind of inn, it makes my travel easier and lighter. They also provide breakfast and snacks, sadly I didn't had the time to try the breakfast due to my short trip and rush itinerary. They also have public refrigerator, you can use it just need to inform the front desk staff so they could help you to marked your belongings. All in all, this is a good place, good for solo or with friends. Will book again if I come back.

Extremely clean place, with the best toilets I've ever seen in a hostel. The shower cubicles have 2 compartment, one for showering and one for drying off! They have great amenities, a washing area with a drying machine (not those with hot air, its those that acts like a centrifuge but its good enough), air drying services, washing services and great wifi! The breakfast buffet is reasonable too. Very nice and clean environment overall. I was unlucky enough to have a room full of heavy snorers, but the provided earplugs are great. They provide a very well thought out basket of accessories for you when you arrive, there's earplug, water, facial towel, bathing towel, cup and toothbrush!

Taiwanese restaurant
"Shan Shin" is a cozy and inviting restaurant in Taichung, offering a relaxed ambiance and familiar meat, seafood, and vegetable dishes. The restaurant is part of the city's diverse food culture, providing an extensive menu that caters to various tastes. Its elegant dining room features floor-to-ceiling windows that let in the warm Taichung sun, creating a pleasant atmosphere for enjoying innovative Taiwanese dishes designed for sharing.
We try Shan Shin in Taichung on or vacation in April but I forgot to write a review. So we decided to try this restaurant because it was super crowded in front, which is always a good sign. At first, we were told the restaurant was full, but soon after, a kind lady came to us and let us know they had a spot available. The atmosphere felt like a true Taiwanese family-style restaurant, with big tables and a warm, welcoming vibe. The portions were huge, incredibly flavorful, and there were so many options that I wanted to try them all. The staff were wonderful — always checking in to make sure the food was good and that everything was perfect. We didn’t take many photos, but we enjoyed every second of our meal. It was a lovely night, and we absolutely loved this place. If we come back to Taiwan, we’ll 100% be back at Shan Shin. Keep up the great work!

Food is good and reasonable price. There are some interesting dishes for you to try. The fried pork knuckles is a must have for sure. I would recommend to give this restaurant a try if you are nearby.

We visited Shan Shin during our workshop in Taichung with a group of twelve people and had a wonderful dining experience. Since we were twelve, we were able to try a wide variety of dishes, and everyone was fully satisfied. In particular, the Roasted Duck & Duck Bone Soup, Boiled Fish With Pickled Mustard, and Fish Maw and Crab Roe with Tofu Stew were outstanding and left a deep impression. The manager kindly explained that some dishes may take longer to prepare, so it’s best to decide the menu in advance when making a reservation. We followed this advice and enjoyed a smooth dining experience within the 90-minute seating time. All the staff were very kind and attentive, which made the experience even more pleasant. One more tip: if the in-app reservation system doesn’t work, you can also make a booking via LINE chat, and the staff responds very kindly.(@922gpxxr) Although we couldn’t take many food photos because everything was enjoyed so quickly, the taste and service left a strong impression. Highly recommended for group dining and anyone who wants to enjoy authentic and creative Taiwanese cuisine. 🌟

We had a wonderful dining experience at Shan Shin. The ambience was elegant yet comfortable, and the service from 琇庭, 宜妤, and AA was outstanding – very attentive, warm, and professional. They also paid careful attention to my daughter’s food allergy request, which gave us peace of mind and made the meal even more enjoyable. The food was excellent. Our top highlights were: • Scallion Chicken (蔥油雞) – tender, juicy, and bursting with fragrance. • Seaweed Egg (芥菜炒蛋) – homely and flavorful, one of our favorites. • Braised Beef Brisket with Vegetables – rich and hearty. • Stir-fried Broccoli with Mushrooms – fresh and crisp. • Oyster Tofu – unique and delicious. • Steamed Fresh Fish – perfectly cooked and fresh. Overall, Shan Shin delivers great food, wonderful service, and a memorable dining experience. Highly recommended!

Restaurant
Taichung's diverse food culture offers a wide array of dining options, and the Tourism and Travel Bureau has curated an extensive list of selected restaurants to cater to every palate. Among the notable additions are 'Tu Pang,' 'FReNCHIE FReNCHIE,' and 'Pork Rong.' These establishments join renowned eateries such as 'Shan Shin,' 'Isagi,' 'Yet-Sen Mansion,' and many others.
Whenever I walk into a new restaurant, get greeted like an old friend by a charming crew, followed by one of the most amazing meals ever, then that day is a great day in my book. And today was one of those days as the Chef and his crew here at Tu Pang prepare and serve a truly fantastic meal. The no-menu multi-course meal is envisioned and created and then executed by a fabulously talented and skilled Chef who takes top level (mostly Taiwanese) ingredients and magically turns them into artistic and scrumptious creations that leave you tasting and guessing and savouring every morsel of every plate. As he and his staff bring each course to the table, one will receive a thorough explanation of the origin of the ingredients as well as the thought behind the dish which actually is a big part of the experience of eating here in itself. I won't go into the individual dishes as they vary from day to day according to season and availability, but the duck breast alone was probably the most savory and exciting and yummy duck breast I've had in my life as it was aged and smoked and seared and plated to absolute perfection. The restaurant is situated in a 60-year-old cosmetics factory that's been converted into workspaces and coffee shops and this wonderful place, and so the architecture and layout and decor add to this splendid experience. Make sure to make a reservation and enjoy a truly memorable meal at Tu Pang. 👏🫰👏

Had the best time and experience! Chef really knew how to use local ingredients, all the dishes were very unique and delicious. Non pretentious and good food. Great staff and chef who introduced every course by himself. Very nice space, good alcohol menu, and honestly very good price for the quality of the meal! Recommend for any special occasion for food lovers, truly a culinary experience we will remember forever.

What an amazing experience we had tonight at Tu Pang ! The evening was like opening a jewelery box, and marveling at every dish like a treasure to discover. The meal tells the story of the place, of the chef, of Taiwan, its culture and its people. It blends personal experience, the use of local products, and reflects an ecological concern, as well as a certain nostalgia. The entire staff is really attentive and helpful (as tourists in Taïwan, we met some difficulties that had nothing to do with the meal, and they took the initiative to guide and help us). The chef is really passionate and enthusiastic, and I hung on his every word as he described each dish. I couldn't recommand it more, and we wish the best to the entire staff.

Thank you to The Kitchen. The entire experience from the presentation of the food and the thoughtfulness of the chef, allows one to fully understand the vision of the kitchen. The staff is lovely with very attentive hands. The ingredients very fresh and flavorful. At times one has to close their eyes to experience the flavors. Vegetarian and vegans are welcomed here as the chef can play with his creative mind and serve whatever is needed.

Hidden in the alley in the West District, Tu Pang is a unique place to dine. Owner/chef is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about local ingredients, and dedicated to promoting seasonal and regional harvests and fresh catches. The restaurant is cozy and food is good, and at thee d of the meal, chef/owner will come out from the kitchen and share his philosophy and story for the food he designed for the guests. There’s always something new about this place, and always some new knowledge to take home with a satisfied meal.

Science Museums
Nestled in the vibrant city of Taichung, Taiwan, the National Museum of Natural Science stands as a premier destination for those curious about the wonders of our planet. This expansive museum features five permanent exhibition halls that cater to visitors of all ages, showcasing everything from fascinating dinosaur fossils to intricate butterfly ecosystems and even the marvels of human anatomy. One highlight is the enchanting 'Bird Garden,' where nearly a hundred bird species can be observed in their simulated habitats—perfect for nature enthusiasts and families alike.
The National Museum of Natural Science is such a fantastic spot! It’s huge, beautifully maintained, and incredibly affordable, just NT$120 for adults and NT$60 for kids under 12. You really get so much value for the price. The exhibits cover so much ground, from dinosaurs and the history of life, to human cultures, science and technology, and even a gorgeous botanical garden with a rainforest greenhouse. Everything feels fresh, well cared for, and thoughtfully presented. The layout is easy to navigate, with clear signs and plenty of space to explore. Even when there are large school groups on field trips, it’s big enough that you can simply wander to another area and enjoy things at your own pace without feeling crowded. The restrooms were spotless, which is always a plus, and the gift shop was excellent, full of unique science-themed items and fun souvenirs for all ages. Overall, it’s the kind of museum you can easily spend hours in without running out of things to see. Clean, spacious, affordable, and full of fascinating displays, definitely worth visiting.

This museum was much bigger than I expected and you could easily spend all day here. Probably at least half of the exhibits have English translations, and for the others, google translate camera function worked a treat. We also went to the science theatre to watch a film and they gave us headphones so we could get English audio. Absolutely must visit with kids.

Just spent an entire day exploring the National Museum of Natural Science (國立自然科學博物館) in Taichung, and it was a spectacular journey through time and space! 🤩 This isn't just one museum; it's a massive complex packed with discovery. Every hall offers a world of exploration. We started with the incredible Life Science Hall, where we saw everything from realistic wildlife dioramas like the zebra on the savanna 🦓 to massive whale skulls and fossils that make you feel tiny. It’s an immersive look at evolution and biodiversity. Next up was the Earth Science Hall, where you can gaze up at a glowing, detailed model of the Sun 🔥 and explore models of ancient creatures like the Keichousaurus fossil! It’s mind-blowing to consider how vast and ancient our planet's history is. 🌏🦴 And don't miss the fascinating Human Culture Hall! I loved seeing the detailed models of ancient architecture, like the multi-story wooden pagodas—a true testament to human ingenuity through the ages. The whole place is beautifully designed and highly interactive. Whether you're a science enthusiast, a history buff, or you're just looking for a fantastic family day out, this museum is a must-visit. You’ll need a few hours, minimum, to cover just the highlights! A truly enriching and educational experience. 💯📚

There are other halls filled with science & historical artifacts as well. Consider to spend half a day to appreciate the spectacular displays put up by the curators, it will sure to take your breath away! 👏👏

Fascinating dinosaur exhibition. Sounds and movements included. Plus many more sections about the origin and development of the human species. When we arrived just before the ticket gate an older lady approached us telling us that because it was Friday and we appeared to be seniors that it was FREE. She took us to the ticket gate and we were in. Thank you lady you made Taichung proud. Thank you Taichung a city of so many kind and helpful people.

Liuchuan Riverside Walk is a charming river path in Taichung City, lined with restaurants and illuminated gardens that make it a popular meeting place after dark. The trail follows the Liuchuan River and is known for being the first riverbank developed using ecological methods in the city. At night, the walkway is beautifully lit up, attracting locals who come to relax after work.
The Liuchuan Riverside Walk is a peaceful urban retreat in the heart of Taichung, offering a scenic escape from the city’s bustling streets. This beautifully landscaped riverside promenade stretches along Liuchuan (Willow River), featuring tree-lined walkways, charming bridges, and well-maintained green spaces.

This river walk is ordinarily a very pleasant oasis in the busy city of Taichung. But During Christmas, this river walk turns into a beautiful light show. It's so festive and bright colorful LED lights all over. It is very crowded though, so it might be best if you visit right after the holiday when most Taiwanese are working.

Nestled just outside Taichung, Rainbow Village is a delightful explosion of color and creativity that captivates visitors of all ages. Once a humble veterans' village constructed to house Chinese soldiers, this charming locale has transformed into an artistic haven thanks to the remarkable efforts of Mr. Huang, one of its last residents. His vibrant murals adorn the walls and streets, showcasing whimsical depictions of animals, dolls, airplanes, and even beloved manga characters.
A beautiful little village full of Taiwan’s history. You can really feel the vibe once you’re there. Whether you stay for 5 minutes or 30, it all depends on your mood and interest. Don’t forget to stop by the lady selling souvenirs at the entrance—her prices are very local and fair! It’s free to enter though. Easy to get here by bus from the city.

Love the colourful village, really brighten up the visit. Can be a bit hot sometimes and no much space to rest. Visitors all busy taking Instagramable photos. There's also a talented busker performing, and some activities to keep young kids occupied. There are a lot of interesting artwork and we spent almost 2 hours there, although the place is actually quite small and the visit can be completed in less than 30mins for some.

Is such a cheerful little spot, full of colors, art, and stories behind every wall. It’s a bit warm walking around, but the bright murals and cute photo corners totally make up for it. Just take it slow, grab a cold drink nearby, and enjoy the happy vibes! 🌈

Really enjoyed coming to this place, although it is quite a long bus ride away from north district and it is maybe smaller than one would think. I think there's a lot of art to admire, you can also walk along one of the walls to try and find your Chinese zodiac sign which is pretty cool. Additionally, there's a wall where you can leave a special message and hang it there. I enjoyed that concept of leaving something for others to see. If you go, plan in advance while considering bus routes, weather, and while a 711 is somewhat near (north) make sure to bring WATER!

山河魯肉飯 is a popular counter-serve restaurant located in Taichung's Second Market. It offers a variety of pork rice dishes, seafood, and fried vegetables. The stall is situated near the east entrance of the market and provides ample seating for its customers. Known for its fabulous pork belly and delicious green veggie soup with sweet potato and tiny fish, this eatery also offers an array of reasonably priced side dishes.
You come here for the food not the atmosphere. Food is great, we had the pork belly rice, minced meat rice, pork trotter rice, tofu , bitter gourd soup and egg. Everything was on point and nice. Portion is small so try more items.

The food is okay, but not worth waiting in line for 10 mins. However, the traditional market is pretty cool, and you can see many traditional Taiwanese food. Oh and btw the QR code on the counter doesn’t work….

Classic braised pork rice shop serving Taiwanese delicacies. I recommend coming in the morning as the shop can get quite busy.
Aviator C — Google review
Good value and very authentic ordering and taste. The braised pork was very good, just the way I liked it. The veges and sides were also pretty decent. I love the radish pork rib soup, really feel quite homely when tasting it. Due to it being more of a historic site, hygiene is not the best and is not really a place you want to linger. The chopstick that I had was also quite badly burnt somehow. However worth a try for some good and authentic taste TW food for very reasonable price.
Wilson S — Google review
Very soft and tender braised pork rice. Their fish set meal, salted vegtables and veggie starchy soup (a bit bitter after taste) is also good. Would recommend to visit early as they ran out of pork slices around 8.45am...so come early to avoid disapointment. They have a larger seating area in the market.
Ryan T — Google review
C [better value elsewhere / CP 值低] · its a famous braised pork rice thats located right in front of Taichung Second Market entrance · one small bowl was about 70 NTD as of May 2025 · asked for lean meat = still got a fatty one? (dont think they care at this point) · also have to clean up after yourself (no service) · they never wipe down the tables here (its incredibly dirty with oil + leftovers from others) · miso soup was also terrible (the tofu was overcooked) tldr: plenty of other local cuisine options to choose from - SKIP!
Meow C — Google review
Their 卤肉饭 was sold out, so we ended up getting the 肉燥饭 instead. It was actually quite tasty, just that the portion was a bit small. The tofu and summer ma xi soup didn’t really do it for me though. The tofu was quite bland, and the soup (which I heard is a Taichung specialty) was bitter and slimy, so I couldn’t really appreciate it. The pork leg, on the other hand, was the highlight. Super tender, full of flavour, and nicely braised, even though it had quite a lot of bones. If you are visiting, I would definitely recommend going for the pork leg!

Great option for breakfast when you stay near Taichung train station 台中車站. May not be the best soy-stewed pork rice 爌肉飯 I’ve tried, but it’s still tasty. I would recommend their spiced corned egg since the sauce is well done!! My personal tips while dining in Taichung second market第二市場 is to grab a cup of老賴紅茶 together with the meal.

However, the portion was a bit small. I found it perfectly filling, but I'll be hungry in the afternoon and need more. If you want a full meal, you might want to order more. If you have a small appetite, I recommend giving it a try.

(Translated by Google) This time we ordered the meat sauce mozzarella burrito and the vegetarian fried mushroom burrito. The meat sauce and cheese go really well together 😍 It was so delicious and the portion was huge. After eating it, I was super satisfied with a cup of coffee. My boyfriend is a vegetarian so he was very satisfied with the fried mushroom. I will definitely come back next time~ (Original)

Yakitori restaurant
"鳥苑" in Taichung is renowned for its exceptional yakitori, expertly prepared by chef Tommy. The menu features a variety of chicken cuts, fish, vegetables, and duck, all skillfully selected, stored, salted and barbecued to perfection. Additionally, the restaurant offers a superb selection of rare sake and well-chosen wines from a simple yet impressive list.
Torien Yakitori is, without a doubt, the best Yakitori restaurant in Taichung. Even as someone who isn't a big fan of chicken, I was amazed by how delicious they made it taste. The owner and staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, adding to the overall fantastic experience. All dishes are cooked to perfection right in front of you in an open kitchen, which adds a delightful touch to the dining experience. While they do accept walk-ins, I highly recommend making a reservation to ensure you get a spot.

IG: @jojo_gourmand The sight and scent of meat sizzling over an open flame satisfy something deep and elemental within us. Yakitori is one of the best ways to savor a whole chicken, and Chef Tommy of Torien 鳥苑地雞燒 understands the relationship between flame and flesh, knowing just how to cook each cut to draw out its best flavor. 🗺️ Yakitori & Japanese 🏷️ NT$2000+

It seems to be two seating and gotten the 8:30pm round. The restaurant will keep people waiting outside and usher name by name. There are people still dinning and finishing. Easy booking via online from google map link. Deposit required. We gotten the set menu price around NT1700. You can add more food at the start or midway. If you have food restrictions, they can switch the skewers. Food is nice but not outstanding. Worth a visit due to the price but probably more to explore. They do have Chouchin, the immature egg York with ovaries tube. Unfortunately, didn’t get to try. The option of rice and noodle, I prefer the noodle. The Kawa Skin is the very crispy type, I suggest to order. Overall dinning is about 2 hours without drinks.

Awesome place to visit while in Taichung! If you are a fan like me of Yakitori! This place is one of the best i have been to!

Great yakitori place. Service is good and all the pieces are seasons great. Only thing is that the counter infront of the grill gets really hot and uncomfortable especially in the summer heat.
Averell C — Google review
The food and atmosphere are excellent, if your are in the area this should be top of your shortlist. The chicken wing stuff with scallops is amazing.
Steve B — Google review
Best yakitori in Taichung, chef Tommy is skillful and knowledgeable about how to select, prepare, store, salt and bbq various cuts of chicken, as well as fish, vegetable and duck. The wine fridge holds a great selection of rare sake, along with a simple list but nicely picked wines.
Rachel A — Google review
I had the honor to visit for dinner on the 25th of March. The yakitori here is top notch, probably the best I’ve ever had in Taiwan by far. Everything was cooked with great technique and just the right amount of time. Apart from the chicken, the duck breast was also outstanding, so juicy and flavorful. I thought it’s also interesting that they offer parts of chicken that you may not see everyday in other restaurants, such as the top of heart, stomach skin, and ankle. ( I didn’t get to try these unfortunately) We had a little incident with the glass of sake that I ordered, but I think the chef handled it really well. He was extremely kind and helpful. A few little recommendations I have for the restaurant (just my personal opinion): 1. I thought the timing for serving each dish could be improved, at some point I was still enjoying my soup dish but my chicken fillet already came from the grill. 2. One of the appetizers from the set menu was a combination of 3 tiny plates. One of them was chicken gizzard (I believe) served with chicken consommé jelly and italien seasoning. I thought the italien seasoning was a bit overpowering and off balance. The dish is already delicious just with the consommé jelly. Overall, a very pleasant experience, big fan of the yakitori here, the chef clearly knows what he is doing, big thank you to the team, can’t wait for my next visit!

Banquet hall
潮港城國際美食館 is a popular buffet restaurant that offers a wide variety of delicious food at a very reasonable price. The festive atmosphere makes it an enjoyable place to dine, especially for those who love seafood. The banquet hall provides a pleasant setting for family lunches, and the fresh and tasty seafood dishes are highly recommended.
We came here for famility gathering. We were given the VIP room and absolutely love their services. A great selection of cruisine from different continental. Love It!

Pleasant place to lunch-in at the banquet hall with family members. All kind of seafood tasted were fresh and delicious. Also, the chicken soup was tantalising and special as it took 6 hrs to boil it. A wonderful place to dine-in in a cosy restaurant with high level of service standard. Highly rated to my expectation.
Pow C — Google review
When it opened was quite chic but like most venues in Taiwan, struggling to remain presentable and profitable so food quality is slipping and interior atmosphere is less than chic

Good good buffet restaurant. I would recommend this place to anyone who is not allergic to seafood. Very festive place indeed. And the price is very reasonable. For adult single entry on week only cost 800 new Taiwan dollar. That is a great price point. And food quality is vary satisfying. They even offer shrimp tempura in size of my palm.

They have lots of different types of food and meiji ice cream is a must for desert. Especially green tea and red bean flavour. But be prepared to queue up for sushi🐟 and steaks and a few other popular soup dishes. Overall not too bad you just have to be quick.

Keep it simple
For day 4, these 3 places should be enough to fill your day with something exciting to do in Taichung. Start the day with LIHPAO Discovery Land and make your way through the city to get to Dajia Jenn Lann Temple. This should take about 8 hours of your day.

Theme park
Water & Amusement Parks
Amusement park
LIHPAO Discovery Land is a vast theme park that offers an array of thrilling rides, including roller coasters and wave pools. Visitors can also explore a new outlet mall inspired by Portofino in Italy, featuring a stunning view of Taiwan's tallest Ferris wheel. In addition to the water park and go-kart track, there are escape rooms and the opportunity to witness the Taichung fireworks display on New Year's Eve.
Suitable for family, friends, couples, groups for one day trip. Can take a lot of pictures. Exciting rides for all ages. The bathrooms are clean and there are plenty of places to rest. Highly recommend to come during weekday and avoid summer time
陳瑞楨 9 — Google review
More family-friendly than thrilling, but some of the rides were actually quite exciting. Spent about 2+hours here but could definitely have stayed longer if we took all rides and retook those that we liked. Would recommend going if you had a day or even just half a day to spare in Taichung. Special shoutout to the Monga Chicken store inside the park - one of the better fried chicken cutlet stores in Taiwan! The neighbouring outlet mall was also quite cool and plentiful if you're a shopper. Do check out the park's website to see if you can take the free shuttle buses back to the train station / Taichung.

Great extreme rides for adults; the Gravity Max was closed during our visit, but we still enjoyed the rest of the rides because there’s not much people during that day. The place is a bit old, and would be great if other parts are maintained.
MJ C — Google review
We visited during our company tour so much fun especially the gravity max
Love P — Google review
Very nice park if you can come on a weekday, which was the case for us. As a result, no waiting or no more than a minute for attractions (and restaurants), easy to find a table for a break or a snack, and sometimes the feeling of being alone in the park. The park is not very big, but it's clean, safe, nice and with a variety of attractions for children of all ages. We also liked that the restaurants had close to regular food prices instead of the steeply marked up prices that you often see at other parks. Downside of weekday visit, not everything was open, in particular some food vendors, but this is very little compared to the happiness of kids, going from attraction to the next without waiting. It is also advisable to buy tickets in advance with an Internet sale, as it is significantly cheaper.
Martin M — Google review
A decent local theme park for families. As this theme park was opened since 2012, it's expected to see the place looks rundown and some abandoned rides. Still, there's some thrilling rides for adults and family-friendly rides for kids are available. And of course, the main attraction seems to be the Line Friends Town.
Horatio T — Google review
I went here on a weekday. Although it was a weekday and it was December 29th, there were a lot of children on a picnic at the beginning, but the wait for the rides didn't take more than 30 minutes. However, what is lacking is that the employees sometimes work too slowly and sometimes take off equipment around 4 o'clock without giving proper explanations. The rides were so fun and included a viking ride, a mini roller coaster, a big spinning roller coaster, etc. It seems like there will be a lot of people on the weekends, so I recommend coming on a weekday. If you want to ride all the rides even when there are no people around, you will have to stand in line again. There is a place where shows are held near the entrance. The hours are from 9:30 to 5:00, so you can go on all the rides. At the end, you can draw a certain piece of paper and receive a product. (100 won for 2) There is nearly no people around 3 to 5 o'clock. So you can scan what you want to play in the morning where there might be a lot of people and then play or ride the rides from noon to the end. I hope this helps.
Jiwon K — Google review
A good place to set free your inner child, you can get really into here! I spent three hours, enjoying nearly all way. Nice facilities with good music. The wooden horses are too slow, though. Some facilities may only interest children. Nonetheless, the best part was the show on 19:30, don't miss it! They have shows and fireworks that grant you a great evening. Certainly don't miss out this place if you like theme parks or have children with you!

Flower market
Zhongshe Flower Market in Taichung is a must-visit destination for flower enthusiasts and photography lovers. Situated just 45 minutes away from the city center, this expansive 6-hectare market boasts a stunning array of colorful blooms that enchant visitors throughout the year. The landscaped garden beds showcase an impressive variety of vibrant flowers, making it an ideal place for leisurely strolls and photo opportunities.
We reached the flower garden from Taichung via a local train then got off at Taian station and transfer via Taxi. The ticket is reasonable, we paid for the tour only. The flowers are beautiful, colorful and maintained. Adding to the beauty is the mountain that can be seen in the background. The place is ideal for family and friends. We went early to avoid crowd and flux of tourist in the afternoon. Nice tourist destination.

It was rainy when we visited Zongshe Flower Garden, so we didn’t get to fully enjoy the scenery. Still, the place is beautiful and worth visiting on a clear day. We tried their noodles and they were surprisingly delicious—definitely a must-try! I hope the staff can work on being a bit more conversational with tourists, especially those who don’t speak Mandarin. Adding pictures to the menu would be a big help too, so visitors can easily understand what’s available.
Juliet G — Google review
I personally wouldn’t recommend the grill food + flower viewing combo set for travelers, since the food is just average and nothing worth mentioning. Instead, we got a separate flower viewing ticket and it was really worth it. The sight of so many flowers blooming together was refreshing and uplifting. I’d recommend tourists come here for the photos, a relaxing stroll, and the rejuvenating vibe.

A flower paradise in Taichung! Perfect for photos and a relaxing stroll through colorful blooms. Don’t forget sunscreen - best to visit in the morning or afternoon when it’s not too sunny!

We took a train to go here (51 NTD fare). The problem with going on a train is that the bus is inconsistent with the schedule on Tai'an Station station. From this place going back to the train station, we waited for the bus to arrive at posted schedule but no bus arrived. So we took an Uber and paid 115 NTD 😭 The place itself is not that big. You can find rows of lavander flowers. Flower are arrange for pleasing appearance. For us it is not worthy to visit this place if you are on a DIY tour. you may skip this place because of the bus sched inconsistency thus ruining your itinirary schedule. eat before you go here. very few restaurant on this area.

Nestled in the charming Dajia District, just a short drive from downtown Taichung, the Dajia Jenn Lann Temple is a stunning tribute to Mazu, the revered sea goddess. Established in 1730, this ornate temple not only serves as a spiritual haven but also houses a cultural museum that enriches visitors' understanding of local traditions. Each spring, it becomes the vibrant heart of an extraordinary event—the Mazu Pilgrimage—recognized globally for its significance.

Located in Dajia, Taizhong. A beautiful historical Chinese temple. There is a lot of street food outside the temple which you can visit after visiting the temple. The architecture of the temple is incredible. It is near the train station which is about 10mins walking distance from the train station. A lot of people went for the prayer. Or you can just visit. No ticket is required for visiting. Overall a good place to visit when you are coming to dajia

In 2022, April 1st coincides with the first day of “March” by Lunar Calendar. There is saying that this month is the month crazy for Mazu, one of the deities in Taiwanese culture. Among all religious activities around Mazu, Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage is the biggest one. The duration usually spans 10 days 9 nights. The route covers a lot of towns and villages in central Taiwan where Mazu worship is deeply rooted in the soil and people's blood. If you visit Taichung, Changhua or Yulin during this month, why not join part of this event hailed by Discovery Channel as one of the world's 3 major religious festivals?

Very disappointed. They should not say they are lavender forest but I think they can call lavender Gardens. Anyway I went there April 2025 no lavender at all, only small garden for hydrangeas. Also the ticket includes free ice-cream but the machine broken so they offer buy 1 get 1 free ice-cream instead. It was acceptable but also not our responsibility. You should keep maintaining. Staffs are untrained, everyone look confusing when I ask something. Don't say it is not the lavender season. If it's not the season you should closed and keep maintaining the good 'garden'.
CK K — Google review
This place is lovely! Even when the lavender is out of season, the other flowers are gorgeous to walk around and look at. It is small and a little hard to get to if you're a tourist, but very peaceful, and their ice cream is so yummy. It's cool too to see the kinds of products they can make from the plants. The staff is also very kind. I couldn't find a taxi to get me off the mountain and went to ask one of them for help, and she instantly made a couple calls to find me a ride and even informed one of the other employees of the situation too so that both of them could help me if I needed while waiting.

Peaceful and Refreshing Day Out Visited Taipei Lavender Garden and really enjoyed it. It’s a calm spot to unwind and just enjoy being surrounded by nature. There are lots of lovely lavender and rose products, soaps, creams, massage oils, teas and everything smells amazing. They also have aromatherapy areas, which add to the relaxing vibe. We tried the lavender, oolong, and lemongrass ice cream, all really good and not too sweet. The cafe serves nice picnic-style food that you can enjoy outdoors, which makes the whole experience feel cozy and laid-back. There are walking trails around the garden, so you can stroll around, take in the scenery, and just slow down a bit.
Gina G — Google review
Very expensive for entry and they give you 100nt tokens to take off when you buy in the grounds, but it’s very expensive, for example a coffee is 180nt for just a basic black coffee. The ice cream they sell is 150nt with token you still need to pay 50nt. If you’re giving token I think items should be a small bit lower in cost, everything is inflated. The one star is solely because of the cost it’s very expensive considering the local cost in Taiwan. The ground are beautiful and well kept, staff are nice, the girl at the entry where you buy the ticket is really nice. I don’t think I’d comeback due to the cost. But overall was a nice experience.

Unless you drive , otherwise, it’s a long way to visit there. And, It’s relatively small that I expected. Maybe I visited it in late September and low season, not many places are truly spectacular compared to the lavender season. And you have to be creative if you want to take some great photos with different flowerings season.

Really beautiful place but the entry fee of 350 dollars is quite expensive. The lady on the gate wasn’t very nice either her manner is quite rude. The restaurant food didn’t try, it’s very expensive even with the 100nt voucher the give you we did spend it or order food. Good place to take wedding photos if you want to. Not easy to get there if you don’t have a car. Overall it was ok, one of the places once you see it once you don’t go back. Really suggest look at the entrance fee before planning to go there. There actually isn’t much to do here only walk around.

Xinshe Castle is pure magic 🌿🏰 – like a European fairy tale hidden in the heart of Taiwan. Perfect escape from city noise, with peaceful gardens, stone castles and fresh air that makes you forget the world. Best way to get here? Rent a scooter in Taichung 🛵✨ The ride itself is part of the adventure – winding roads, jungle scents, and breathtaking mountain views. Honestly, it’s something you just have to experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking to relax, recharge, and capture unforgettable moments 📸💫

It’s an amazing place! We just went there this afternoon for the first time (Tuesday) and there was hardly anyone else. It’s just like our own castle and that experience was fantastic. There’s a great little wooden trail which was nicely taken care of. Just come and you won’t be disappointed. I heard the castle was built 20 years ago, it’s hard to see a private location that’s well maintained in Taiwan for that long. Take your time there, have a cup of coffee, stay chill.

It’s quite far from Taichung city. And no public transportation that go to this place. So, you need to use your own car / motorcycle or taxi. Meanwhile, it’s bit pricey. The admission fee is $350 per person. Although you get a credit of $100 per person to use on drinks or food, the food and drink there is quite expensive too. The castle is huge and beautiful. A great place to visit if you like beautiful scenery and you have more free time~

The Natural Way Six Arts Cultural Center, also known as the Taichung Butokuten, is a historic building with traditional Japanese architecture. Originally built in 1937 as a training arena for judo and kendo for correction officers, it was later recognized as a heritage landmark by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government. The center now offers courses in various arts and cultural practices such as tea art, guqin (Chinese lyre), archery, and kendo.
Beautiful and peaceful place with Japanese architecture and ambience. Visit in the afternoon to marvel at the antique buildings and garden towards the sunset. If you want to try the kendo or archery session, you need to book in advance.

This building complex was built in 1937 during the Japanese colonial period. The Taichung Butokuten served as an arena for judo and kendo practice for prison officials and correction officers. In 2004, the Butokuten was registered as a heritage building by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Taichung City Government. If you like Japanese architecture, you should visit this heritage building. I also enjoy the ambiance here, which is quiet and perfect for relaxing and taking a break from busy city life.

he Taichung Prison Martial Arts Field, located in Taichung City, Taiwan, is a historical site that has been in use for over a century. Originally built as a training ground for martial arts and combat techniques by the Japanese military, it was later used as a venue for public punishment during the Japanese colonial period. After Taiwan's liberation, the field was repurposed by the Nationalist government and became part of the Taichung Prison. The inmates were trained in martial arts as part of their rehabilitation program and the field was used for demonstration and competitions. Today, the field is open to the public and is a popular tourist attraction. Visitors can observe the inmates' daily martial arts training, witness demonstrations of various martial arts styles, and even participate in workshops and classes. With its rich history and cultural significance, the Taichung Prison Martial Arts Field serves as a unique and fascinating destination for those interested in martial arts and Taiwanese history.

It is so calming when I come here. There is a music show that we can enjoy with many choice of food and beverages. Actually there are many person that come here for praying (I guess) but this is also one of the itinerary when you come to Taichung. You should try to come here since it is close to the station

When the first time I saw this place, an old fashioned building standing right here, every time I passing through the road, it always caught my attention. Today, finally I got time to explore the unknowns, and I was fully in love with the building and its outdoor area, such a nice place for a Saturday walk with families or friends.

We went to visit too early in the morning. We will definitely return another time when the shops are open and hopefully, when there is an arts event. Nevertheless, the place was hauntingly beautiful and very relaxing. The place is connected to a open park and a public sports track where. Overall, very relaxing!

I already came here many times. This place brings me an old, chill and peaceful vibes. It's worth recommending and visiting, not only for its old and special architecture but also for the feels of itself.

Park
Calligraphy Greenway is a unique outdoor space that offers a serene retreat with its grassy areas, sculptures, and walkways. It is surrounded by various eateries and an art museum, creating a vibrant atmosphere. The band-shaped city space connects several notable attractions such as the National Museum of Natural Science, Citizens Square, CMP Park Lane, and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts. This green belt stretches from the science museum to Civic Square and includes Art Museum Parkway.
Calligraphy Greenway is a refreshing stretch of greenery in the heart of Taichung, offering a perfect blend of nature, art, and city life. This beautifully landscaped park is ideal for a leisurely stroll, with tree-lined paths, open spaces, and creative public art installations scattered throughout. The greenway connects several cultural and shopping districts, making it a lively yet relaxing spot to take a break. On weekends, you’ll often find street performers, pop-up markets, and families enjoying the outdoors. There are also plenty of cafés and restaurants nearby, making it easy to grab a coffee and soak in the atmosphere.

A Taichung local introduced me to this place. It's such a nice place to hangout and take a leisure walk with your friends and family. There are so many good eateries near this area, so you can also grab a meal together and relax. The michelin star ice cream place "MINIMAL" is near this place. This area is apparently called "Qinmei 勤美" and locals love this place. This walkway stretches all the way from the National Museum of Natural Science to the Taichung Civic Square. During weekends, there are lots of pop-up stores and local vendors selling various things from snacks to cute handmade things. Also, busking and other public outdoor activities are enjoyed here. I took a late-night walk here along with my friend, after a rainy day and the mood was so great :)

Quite amused to see this famous World of Warcraft character in the middle of a peaceful park with elderly doing tai chi. Finishing of statue is good, well made and didn’t see much sign of wear & tear. Nice to clock in some steps around this park while looking at locals with their kids playing and exercising

Simple amazing spaces for a walk or exercise. It's rare to have such a large park like this in the middle of business center. Highly recommend taking a walk the entire park then visit the museum.

With its reputation for authenticity and attentive staff, Copain stands out among the many places serving Italian food in the area.
Simply Delicious! A restaurant with a Japanese take on Italian cuisine! It's close to the Taichung station & Toroko Mall. Friendly staff and Chef! 👌🍝🍕☕

Only tried a few dishes, but they certainly didn't disappoint! I totally recommend their Copain Pizza. The spaghetti here is pretty good as well, and their Japanese originals are certainly interesting. Didn't get to try their tiramisu (it was sold out) but I heard it's great.
Amanda F — Google review
I thought every Japanese restaurant is a strong believer of "Customer First". Apparent not every single one! At least Copain in Taichung, Taiwan is not. I just requested a cheap normal lemon wedge for the black tea I ordered. However, two staffs told us they do NOT supply lemon wedge with the drink. I can't believe it! Who drinks black tea without lemon wedge. I can understand if the restaurant doesn't offer lemon wedge for every customers. Nevertheless, I can NOT accept the attitude not offering lemon wedge even after customer specifically request it. Conclusion, I will NEVER come back this restaurant AGAIN!

(Translated by Google) The first time I ate it was at the shop on Dayong Street. Their pasta had its own unique taste. • Yuzu Pepper Seafood Pasta The aroma of yuzu is quite strong, and the Japanese-style taste is not like traditional Italian pasta seasoned with sauce. The refreshing taste is a perfect match for the springy noodles. • Margherita & Hub Pizza The crust of the pizza is thin and crispy, mainly because of the strong wheat aroma, and there is a lot of cheese. • Baked Brulee I really like to eat it with vanilla seeds, it will enhance the flavor by more than one level. The sugar part is very thick and it tastes crunchy. A low spend of 170 or a main meal. There are 4 of us. We originally planned to order 2 pizzas and 1 pasta, plus 4 set meals, but we had to make up 4 main meals and ordered 1 more pasta. Delivery When we come, we will be given an extra tong to divide the food, but the 4 main meals are a little bit filling. I hope there can be more different choices in the a la carte category. The clerk speaks Japanese very well ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ (Original) 第一次吃是去大勇街那家店,他們家的義大利麵有屬於自己獨特的味道。

(Translated by Google) The vegetable soup is fresh, sweet and delicious, especially the addition of German sausage slices, but I prefer the spinach soaked in the soup. The pizza tastes neither tough nor hard, but has just the right texture. The aroma and melt-in-one taste of the cheese are obviously different from the two-color cheese in the market. The cheese here is obviously higher-end. I recommend the Japanese yuzu pepper shrimp noodles, they are delicious! It’s delicious, comes with a medium roll and five shrimps. It’s quite affordable in the Western District for 240 yuan. The taste of Tiramisu is soft, soft but not rotten, and the milky taste is rich but not greasy.

Yi Deng Liang Beef Noodle Restaurant is a no-frills eatery located in the southeast of the city, offering simple and affordable dining experience. The menu features hearty staples such as pork noodles, fried rice, and dumplings. The standout dish is the beef noodle soup with its clear yet flavorful broth. The restaurant's mastery of soup base allows for a deliciously beefy flavor without excessive additives. Additionally, patrons can enhance their meal with spices for an extra layer of taste.
Enjoyed our meal very much here! Service was prompt, the grandmother at the counter was very warm and friendly. Most importantly, food was delicious and very comforting! Would come back here again. 1 large beef noodles, fried bean paste noodles and 8 soup dumplings. Total was 258 NTD.

Walked here from the comic museum. Visiting during non meal hours so the place was relatively empty. But right after I ordered, people started streaming in. Most people ordered their fried rice or fried noodle. I had beef noodle, but the fried rice really looks delicious too. Will try it if I ever go back again.

Excellent prawn fried rice, rich taste coats the mouth. Water dumplings filled with fresh chives and pork- excellent. Fried chicken drum very savoury, had to order extra. Probably avoid pork chop on rice and beef on rice - personal taste really Would definitely come back for fried rice and water dumplings 👍👍👍

Clear clean yet very beefy soup! When one has their soup base mastered no need for other things to add. Their beef soup/ noodle soup is fantastic if you prefer beefy clear soup not like others that adds million different stuffs to boost their soup.

The soup was very plain for this kind of beef noodle. Dumpling was ok, not impressive. Beef tripe was simply horrible. Wouldn't visit again as there are many beef noodles that taste better.

Visited this restaurant because of the good reviews, but was extremely disappointed. The beef noodle soup was very bland, and the beef pieces were very tough unfortunately. This was not worth 140TWD. Thankfully, the pork cutlet was better, but still not outstanding.

Yakiniku restaurant
Restaurant
"俺達の肉屋 日本和牛燒肉店" is a renowned restaurant that specializes in serving freshly cut wagyu beef and traditional Japanese dishes, complemented by a selection of beer and wine. The establishment is known for offering high-quality cuts of meat that are tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Guests have the option to choose set meals or seek recommendations from the attentive servers based on their preferences for leaner or more marbled cuts.
The rice bowl, drinks, high quality cuts of meat and the beef soup finish. We loved it all. There’s no good way to describe the experience that will do this restaurant justice. We ate at a popular steakhouse in Taipei the night before and this experience came across more memorable. Each bite is perfectly curated and expertly cooked table side by the staff. We had an amazing experience where the conversation felt like we were among friends. Our servers were happy to provide recommendations of Taichung and share their own preferences for the meal. My mandarin is at an elementary vocabulary level but they were extremely patient and attempted to describe each cut and the ideal pairing before eating it. The drinks were a nice reminder of our trips to Japan where we could order highballs or shochu sours in different flavors. Highly recommend if you’re in the area and I hope we get to experience this again.

High quality of beef, wagyu, chicken and pork with exquisite skills of grilling by the staffs, everything is perfect, we especially like having different kinds of beef at once to taste the difference

The atmosphere is great, and meat quality is good, there’s a waitress with professional skill of barbecue and served you everything, need to try once when you in Taichung.
Chris C — Google review
The dining experience here is quite questionable, and I think it is overrated. The quality of the meat seems great, without a doubt, but it was not as good as they claim; it was only good for picture ,not for taste. It was flavorless, quite oily, and even a bit sour for the soup. We expected more from a place that was awarded by Michelin. It was hard to appreciate the texture and layers of the meat, and the arrangement of the dishes made the experience even worse, easily getting full because of too much oil and feeling tired of continuing this meal. It was a wise decision to serve such small portions, as it's hard to develop a desire for more bites. The seats here are small and limited, which is understandable, but since it's a barbecue place, it makes air circulation difficult. The servers are good, but it seems not all of them are well trained. There were a few times they did not introduce the dish to us without our asking, and they seemed don’t have much enthusiasm for this job. I have had a few experiences of having Japanese barbecue at this price in Taiwan and even in a few countries. As the place is recognized by Michelin, we had high expectations and had been looking forward to it for a while. However, after this meal, we felt lost and empty, confused about what we had been eating and why we were here. Overall, it was quite disappointing, and I would recommend going to another place at this price to gain a better, more exclusive experience. It's just not worth it here!
Kn — Google review
Great cuts. Tender, juicy, full of flavor. The cuts are presented first then prepared after your camera takes the first bite. Do the set meals if you're not sure what to order or tell the servers what type of cuts you prefer (leaner/more marbled, etc). Service was phenomenal. Each time providing what cut they're cooking at the moment, texture, flavor profile and suggested dipping sauce. What stood out the most was noticing my friend didn't eat all of the meat from some of the cuts due to the thick tendon. They apologized in the end and provided other cuts free of charge.
Danny L — Google review
Really impressed with the experience. The meat cuts were carefully chosen and thoughtfully prepared. The staff were friendly and explained clearly in English where each cut came from and its origins. We left feeling satisfied and full.
Edward N — Google review
This way exceeds my expectation. 1 star Michelin. The shop is nicely renovated and we got seated at level 1, right next to the kitchen. The staff will explain how to order, either set for 2x or ala carte. Ordered the set since this is my first time and the staff will grill on behalf. Food: 1. 5/5 First came the 2 assorted starters which are the marinated/preserved veg. It’s nice on its own. 2. 5/5 raw beef with egg 3. 3/5 kurobuta fats mix with rice with raw egg 4. 5/5 beef tongue (thin cut). This is seriously good with just pinch of lemon and without sauces. The boss explained the cut and how he adapt to asians liking. Not chewy and very tender. 5. 5/5 5 cuts. One of the cut texture is like aburi toro. Fatty and textured. 6. 5/5 assorted veg. Seriously juicy and very fresh. 7. 5/5 fillet mignon. The way they prepared, searing it twice and wrapping in aluminium foil to let the internal cook, it’s beautifully cooked. It’s served with salt marinated pepper seed. Crazy good. 8. 5/5 soup. The soup is beefy and clears the oil in the mouth. The small piece of tongue meat is so tender. Overall, this has to be my best Yakiniku experience, both the quality of the food as well as how the boss and staff will explain and expertly cook the meats. This truly deserves a one star.
Isaac H — Google review
To sum up: Food and service are ok. However, this is ruined. The atmosphere is terrible, it’s extremely loud, the table and setting are very small and overall it’s just really uncomfortable. I would not go here anymore.

Master Of Mushroom Restaurant is a hidden gem located in an out-of-the-way spot, accessible by a one-hour bus ride from Taichung. The restaurant offers a diverse selection of mushrooms and fungi, available as prepared snacks or in dried packages. The menu is updated seasonally to showcase creative hometown flavors and new themes.
Yesterday we went to the master of mushroom restaurant, undoubtedly, the mushroom hotpots there were describable fresh and delicious! Every single mushroom contained the sweet and fully flavoured sauce!!! It’s worth to try their foods. HOWEVER, the service there was not welcoming and no waiter come and check your hotpots from time to time and see if you need anything. So, overall, I have no doubt about the foods but the service.

Fresh ingredients with reasonable local price. You would need to gather all request in once as their staff work fast & very busy from table to table. Can be impatient with repeated request. You can shop for many interesting snacks for gift here. Love their steamboat. Bought many snacks too👍🏼

A must visit for mushroom lovers. Hot pot with their mushroom broth was excellent. The price is also fair. A good selection of mushroom and fungi, both as prepared snacks and in dried packages. The location is a bit out of the way. It is reachable by bus from Taichung for about an hour's time. Also, if you like hiking, there are a selection of hiking routes around the area, where you can plan your day depending on your level of fitness. Watch out for stray dogs when going up hiking routes, though, we had to detour after we were chased away by a pack of three dogs. Google Map routes are good enough to navigate the well marked trails.

Dishes mostly made using mushrooms. Many different varieties of mushrooms you can try. But do not over order as the portions are quite huge. To me, the dishes were not bad. However, they didn't exceed my expectations.

The set meal for two can in fact feed three or even four people. Apart from mushrooms, they also serve meat and seafood. Overall, I love the taste of the food. One can also get a good scenic view if he sits by the window. It’s away from Taichung city centre. So if one is driving, there’s an open spaced car park opposite the restaurant.
