The Kurobe Gorge, situated in Chubu-Sangaku National Park, is a renowned V-shaped gorge in Japan and holds the distinction of being designated as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty and a Special Natural Monument. The area boasts primeval forests and crystal-clear streams that offer breathtaking views, transitioning from fresh greenery in early summer to deep green hues during the season and vibrant reds in autumn. Visitors can embark on an exploration of the steep gorge via a trolley train.
Beautiful place. Nice daytrip. We stay in Kanazawa, en came here early in the morning on a sunday. We could get ticket for at the station, no need in advance booking. We stopped at the first station and walked to the onsen. It was amazing, we had the whole open air onsen to ourselves. Due to the earthquake 2 years ago, the railway has been shortened. But it is still a beautiful scenery, and amazing onsen.

Actually awesome. The views were amazing and all the staff/workers were so lovely and enthusiastic. I've been mountain climbing in this region quite a lot, so it was nice seeing the mountains from the railway. It was also a lot less crowded than I expected (no queueing required for on-the-day tickets although it was a weekday). Totally worth the trip from Kanazawa.

Extreamly beautifull view. But you have to be prepare that for the half of the ride you will be in tunels. If you sit on the wrong part of the train you won't have the best view. Sit on the right part when you departure and on the left when going back to base station. At the last stop you have about 20 minutes but there ist nothing to do and no good view so you can go to the toilet and sit in the train. There are station along the way but if you get off there is no garantee you will get in on the next train so its a bit risky. All in all its a great expirience and i recomend you going there.

20251107 gorgeous views of the autumn leaves! I like the open car way more, although we booked the close window ("relax car"). To feel the breeze and the smell of the forests. Beware of stinky bugs and loud noise thou (my friend is afraid of the bugs, but they fly away soon if you keep on moving, taking pictures).
E. L — Google review
I wanted to ride it at least once, so I'm very satisfied! Depending on the season, please wear comfortable clothes after checking the weather and temperature in advance because the train is open-air seat.

This spot offers a stunning panoramic view of hills and a river flowing gracefully below—perfect for nature lovers and photographers. Traveling through the jungle in an open train added a thrilling touch to the experience, blending adventure with scenic beauty. A truly memorable way to connect with nature!
Saudeep B — Google review
Great views, very brisk for fall, so bring a coat. I would recommend concert ear plugs if riding in the open seat cars as the rails can be piercingly loud.
N L — Google review
One of the beautiful scenery I have ever seen in my life, worth the journey and the cost! PS. If you afraid of bugs get the closed car when buying a ticket to the train 😅

(Translated by Google) Its elegant design, inspired by the moon goddess, makes it easy to see why it was named "Selene." As you enter the building, the first thing you'll notice is the calming spatial design unique to a complex that also houses halls and conference rooms. The flow of traffic within the building has been carefully considered, making it easy to find your way to the art museum area. The lighting in the exhibition rooms has been carefully adjusted to ensure the colors of the exhibits are not overly washed out, creating an atmosphere that allows you to fully appreciate the "quiet power" of Japanese paintings depicting the nature of the Kurobe Gorge. Unazuki Station is the starting point for the Kurobe Gorge Railway, situated in Unazuki Onsen, a charming hot spring town at the gorge's entrance. The town offers hot spring baths, hotels, ryokan, museums, and walking trails leading into the gorge.
We had a really great day at the gorge, although it wasn’t open for all of the route because of the new year’s earthquake. Parking is only available at the station it seems (all other lots were private or belonged to hotels) and costs ¥1000 for the day. Not wanting to spend too much on parking, we ended up finding a free spot at the dam, which turned out to be a gorgeous spot. There is a free electric bus that stops by the dam and you can take it into the town to catch the train. You can also walk to the station where you get to pass the iconic red bridge.

All the best to the eventual full reopening of Kurobe Gorge. At the moment one can only ride to Nekomata. There is so much to see on the way there and the scene is gorgeous; an the train ride was pretty fun. Nekomata itself however, not so much, as it is currently occupied completely by construction vehicles.
Hsien-Chih C — Google review
Walked from the train station to the dam - crossings along some bridges, through tunnels. Beautiful views in early June with lush greenery in the mountains. Path is mainly paved. We encountered monkeys with their babies - obviously don't approach them but they're cute. There's a dam museum which closes at 4.30pm - we didnt get there on time but I presume a lot of the information would be in Japanese. Next day we caught the train to nekomata. It's a 100 minute return open air train ride with no toilet on board. It doesn't go the whole length to Keyakidaira as a bridge was damaged by the January 2024 Noto earthquake. Train ride is beautiful but would have been better if you could get off and do walks. We took the 9am train which meant there weren't many people and we got the whole car to ourselves. The train after us was super busy. Glad we packed a jumper, 9am train ride in early June was cold

This place is really recommended to come. The atmosphere is perfect, especially in the autumn season. I recommend reserving the ticket for Kurobe gorge railways in advance because the route inside takes time to walk; if you book on the day, the returning ticket will be available only early. So you can walk there only a short time while the location is vast. I checked the internet almost one month in advance, but all tickets were sold out. However, they suggested checking again 10 days before your trip; they will release more tickets. I waited until midnight, and I got the tickets. After I reserved for a few hours, the tickets became less available. If you want to come here, please plan your trip wisely.

Frienly. Perfect for sightseeing. Don't forget trying to use Kurobe railway, you will have unforgetable experiments. This area is so beatiful. However, there are only 1 or 2 restaurants after 5p.m, so that please be careful, may be you can't find anything to eat if you stay here overnight.

This is more in regards to the Kurobe Gorge Railway as a whole. Unazuki Station serves as the starting point to this epic 1.5 hour (each way) journey. Located in the delightful town of Unazukionsen, this station is about a 3 minute walk from Unazukionsen station. The tickets for the Kurobe Gorge Railway are purchased here. Once you are aboard one of the petite train cars, get ready for some great views. Pro tip: go to the restroom first as you will really wish you had!

Unazukionsen Station is a small local train station located in the charming Unazuki Onsen town. To get there, you can take the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kurobe Unazuki Onsen Station and then transfer to the Toyama Chiho Railway from neighboring Shin-Kurobe Station.
Status at Nov 2023, Small Local Train Station, has 2 coin locker boxes. You can leave bags or small size luggage in these boxes in case of hurriedly to go to book Kurobe Gorge TRAM. If having large luggage, recommend to rent coin locker at Kurobe-Unazukionsen station instead. Beware, there is limited number of large size coin loggers at Kurobe-Unazukionsen Station. (Translated by Google) This station is a gateway to power development and tourism, and a transfer station for the trolley train at Unazuki Station. Unazuki Station is located a few hundred meters from Unazuki Onsen Station on the local electric train. Surrounded by mountains, the fresh air filled the air as I got off the train, making me realize how far I'd come. ✨️ In front of the station is a famous hot spring fountain ⛲️, spewing hot water ♨️ at about 60°C. Souvenir shops are scattered around the station, and while I browsed them after getting off the trolley, the local electric train connections were convenient. However, perhaps because it was a weekday, there were only a few to a dozen passengers on both the way there and back, so it was a bit lonely. The trolley train was reasonably well-traveled, but I wonder if most of the people riding it were on tourist buses...? Tochi Hot Spring (Tochinoyu) is a small public hot spring bath nestled in the Kurobe Gorge, offering gender-segregated outdoor baths with stunning views of the river, gorge, and passing trains. It's an ideal spot to unwind after exploring Unazuki, especially during autumn when you can admire the vibrant colors of the mountains across the river.
10/10 would absolutely visit again. This was my highlight for the day spent in Kurobe gorge. Spectacular view in a quiet, natural hot spring. You could hear the river bubbling beside you. And at the end a monkey showed up and sat on the fence watching me bathe. It was like out of a movie. Bit of a walk from the town site but the end reward was worth it.

No bus was running on the weekdays! It is worth the visit although I walked for 40mins to get there lol Be careful when you walk through the tunnels where cars are passing by as well. The tunnel is the only way you can get there.
Isabella — Google review
About an hour from Unazuki Station, it is located just where the river curves. It therefore provides a panoramic view of the river and the surrounding mountains, and with good weather you can enjoy many layers of steep hills, all the way to the farthest snowcapped peaks. Have a break inside with a drink, or a simple meal of noodles or grilled rice balls, or the full experience with the open air hot spring. Beware that Google Maps will try to guide through roads for cars, completely ignoring the paths for pedestrians. From Unazuki Station, go to Yamabiko bridge, then Unazuki Dam Viewing Platform, then to Unazuki Dam. Going to the dam is the most important part, as you will avoid walking through a dark and dangerous tunnel.

(Translated by Google) Last year, while riding the trolley train, I discovered a cozy hot spring on the opposite bank of the Kurobe River! I searched for it on Google Maps and visited it for the first time. This time, for the second time, I avoided the crowded Unazuki Onsen town and branched off towards Tochinoyu just before, which allowed me to get there without traffic jams. Even during the autumn foliage season, I can bathe without waiting, which is always comfortable. The indoor washing area is small, but the open-air bath is the best! The disclaimer "may be visible from outside" is striking, but you can soak in the hot spring without worrying, and the view of the trolley train slowly passing under the cave is amazing. After bathing, cool off with some Toyama Prefecture Koshihikari Monaka ice cream (containing Koshihikari rice). All items in the facility, including bathing tickets, are purchased from ticket machines. *There are a lot of insects until the peak of the autumn foliage season.

Nestled in the charming Unazuki Onsen of Toyama Prefecture, Okame Noodle & Sake Bar is a delightful culinary gem that you can easily reach by train from Toyama Station, taking about two and a half hours. Just a short two-minute stroll from Unazuki Station leads you to this cozy spot where the owner crafts mouthwatering dishes like "Bocci Nabe," with fresh ingredients changing daily.
Enjoyed the black ramen, which was even more delicious on a cold evening. We also ordered the gyoza. Would recommend having dinner here. I think we also met the owner/chef (mentioned in a lot of comments). Although he didn’t smile much, he came across polite and kind (possibly just a man of few words? lol)

河鹿(かじか) is a popular kamameshi and oden shop that offers a touch panel ordering system. The kamameshi, made to order, takes about 20 minutes and is known for its delicious gomoku rice and firefly squid. Additionally, the grilled fish is topped with kelp. Oden is available as an assortment of items or as single servings, featuring Toyama specialties such as firefly squid pickled offshore and kelp tightening.
I enjoyed the dishes I ordered at this family run restaurant - it is one of the 3 restaurants open in town on a Monday. Service is great - the staff is patient with me when I have to use a translator app to read and communicate in Japanese. Food is served at reasonable speed. The restaurant accepts credit cards.

We liked the seating of the table but are not impressed by the food. Might be because we are not japanese, but everything seems to be mainly cooked in broth. If this is your thing go for it, but not for us. Also barely any meat (other than seafood) and vegetarian options. Sorry

We were a bit wary of what was written earlier about customer service here but it went well as we got there early to study the menu and ask questions. My husband speaks adequate Japanese and we managed to order a delicious meal of crab kamameshi, firefly squid, braised pork and sashimi wrapped in sea kelp. The food is very tasty. The drunk guest at the counter made the staff smile & laugh. Know that water & tea is self-service and there's a kamameshi vending machine outside if it's too crowded or you're pressed for time.

Did not want to eat hotel food, which tend to be too filling. Oden or precooked vegetables and fish cakes in soup stock is very good here. BUT the maid or server behind the counter pretended not hear us. We screamed, shouted and somehow got some food, but if you are in a hurry or not likely to be loved by the woman, seek other eating place. Be aware of the unsophisticated country bumpkin.

(Translated by Google) I went there for the firefly squid kamameshi. It's a restaurant during the day and a restaurant/izakaya at night. I visited during lunch hours, and when entering you enter your ticket into the ticket machine just inside the entrance and wait outside. In more rural areas, payment is cash only, but it's convenient that they accept various forms of payment. The oden emphasised the flavour of the ingredients, which I liked. When the firefly squid kamameshi was served, the rice was just about finished steaming, and it cooked to perfection while I was eating it. The firefly squid also had a flavour that emphasised the ingredients, but it was delicious with a seasoning that didn't have any unpleasant smell. Day 2

North side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the north side side of town. Start the day off with Uozu Aquarium, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Unazuki Beer Hall. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Uozu Aquarium is a compact aquatic attraction that showcases both marine and freshwater creatures, including a diverse collection of fish species. The facility also boasts a captivating penguin exhibit where visitors can observe these charismatic birds being fed. Moreover, guests can explore an underwater viewing tunnel for a unique perspective on life beneath the surface. Although renovations or updates may be necessary, Uozu Aquarium remains an affordable destination suitable for families with children seeking to bond over nature's wonders.
A small yet impressively diverse aquarium in terms of species variety. Many of the animals on display are ones we’ve never seen in any other aquarium before. The deep-sea section is particularly fascinating and a true highlight. The entire exhibit is very child-friendly, with tanks, aquariums, and terrariums thoughtfully positioned at the perfect height for young visitors. You’ll spend around an hour here, making it ideal for a short visit. On the downside, some of the tanks are quite small and a bit outdated. Nevertheless, it’s a great spot for a brief stopover and definitely worth a visit.

Honestly it's pretty great, I've visited a lot of aquariums and this is really the perfect size and location if you have (younger) kids or just for couple hours, it's not like a full day affair that the bigger aquariums are. It's interesting and just long enough for them to stay intrigued, there's a wide selection of weird fish, large central viewing pool with a tunnel, some jelly fish, amazonian / tropical jungle river animals, and even doctor fish you can touch at the end which kids will love. Couple seals and even penguins. Theres a place to each outside serving your standard selection of ramen, udon , curry etc basically easy staples at reasonable price. A large park right next to the place with some slides and activities and an amusement park ( free to enter) across the street with various rides and a bug trampoline for kids up to 12 years old can use. All in all totally worth your time for a easy relaxing day out with minimal logistics for a family or just a date.

Compact aquarium with interesting activities and I really enjoyed the variety of sea creatures at the aquarium even though i couldn’t understand most of the information in Japanese (I used google translate for most). Even on a weekend, the crowd was manageable. My children enjoyed it very much!

It is said to be the oldest aquarium in Japan. The explanations are very concise and easy to understand, and are designed to allow visitors to learn while having fun. Although the building is old, it is well maintained and clean, and you can tour the entire aquarium in an hour.

Ishidahama Beach is a small, tranquil beach located just a short walk from Ishida Station on the Toyama Regional Railway. The pebble shore is enclosed by a fence, providing a safe swimming area. Miyano Sports Park is a spacious park with various amenities such as slides, swings, and ample parking. It offers beautiful cherry blossoms around the large parking lot, making it an ideal spot for picnics and enjoying the scenery without leaving your car. The park also caters to the elderly and people with disabilities. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a stunning view of Kurobe city from the hill within the park.
It was a great experience. A huge park with lots of accessories like slides and swings. More than sufficient parking available. It was not so crowded. But there may be some people with kids lined up for swings and slides. You can see a beautiful landscape view of Kurobe city up from the hill. Green forests and huge playgrounds are enough to keep you engaged for one to two hours within the park. A beautiful temple is worth a watch. Mesmerizing red bridge is worth a watch but it closes after 4 or 5pm. Numerous restrooms available at different locations. Overall highly recommended beautiful park for kids.

The attached restaurant offers a lunch buffet from April to November, featuring local ingredients and Unazuki Beer. Visitors can enjoy three kinds of beer brewed with water from the Kurobe River and locally harvested barley. The facility also includes shops selling local specialties and unique souvenirs.
A great place for some delicious craft beers and good food. The restaurant is quite large and spacious - it has a beer hall vibe to it. Plenty of seating. Perfect for large gatherings. The staff were super nice and friendly. They were knowledgeable about the beers they served and were very helpful. The small supermarket across from the brewery/restaurant is also great. I dined at the renowned Katsubee Kurobeten and indulged in their famous pork cutlet set meal. The meat was incredibly tender, while the breading provided a delightful crispness. The miso soup complemented the dish perfectly, especially with its flavorful clams. The meal itself consisted of fried pork alongside rice, cabbage, and miso soup - a generous portion that left me satisfied.
This was my first restaurant that I ate at when I moved to Kurobe 5 years ago, and it's still one of the most filling and delicious teishoku style restaurants that I've been to in and around the area. Though it can be a tad pricey for certain dishes, the quality and quantity of food is well worth it.

There were already quite a few cars parked there. I sat at the counter and looked at the menu. As expected, the Kurobe Meisui Pork is the best here! I went for the tender loin. It was a 200 gram pork cutlet. They only serve three servings a day! The sesame seeds are brought at the same time as the pork cutlet. The pork cutlet gets cold while it's being grated. You need to add it before the pork gets tough. I added shichimi pepper to make it slightly spicy. Of course, I also added mustard. I mainly use a spicy sauce. I'm reluctant to add salt. It was delicious with just the right amount of fat. The egg yolk in the batter made it a high-quality pork cutlet. I ordered seconds of rice and cabbage. The rice grains were shiny. I paid 2,354 yen with PayPay. I think it was worth that much. If you like bold leaders of industry with a vision, if you like learning about product manufacturing and innovation, if you like thoughtfully curated museums, then you are coming to the right place! Today's tour was conducted entirely in Japanese so if you are still learning Japanese or don't speak any, it would be good to walk around a little first in the hall on the right-hand side. Then you'll be more familiar with the content. I didn't check if they had any guides who spoke another language or an app or an audio headset. I really enjoyed learning some of the stories behind this company! The cafe had tasty food as well as tourism brochures for the surrounding area. One of the cafe staff recommended the Kurobe fish market to me and I'm glad I went. I had a crab bento there and it rocked! Definitely worth the trip to Kurobe! (This was my reason for travelling up here from Tokyo in fact!) If you travel to Kurobe and don't know what else to do, I highly recommend saving a good chunk of time for the Kurobe Gorge to enjoy it's views, hiking, and onsens!

Shin-Kurobe Station

Train station
Shin-Kurobe Station is a convenient transfer point for travelers heading to Unazuki Onsen Station. Located just outside the Kurobe Unazuki Onsen Shinkansen Station, it allows for easy access to the Kurobe Gorge. Despite being an unmanned station, passengers can obtain round-trip tickets to Unazuki at a lower cost and enjoy the picturesque views while waiting for the train.
You can see a stereotypic Japanese country side summer landscape. It’s so nostalgic😍

Nice station to change/from to the Shinkansen. Tickets cannot be bought here, so you gave to board the train, take the numbered ticket indicating the stop you boarded and pay on leaving the train (or station in case of Unazuki). Museum
The Kurobe River Electricity Memorial Hall offers a fascinating insight into the history of power generation in the picturesque Kurobe Gorge. Visitors can explore the challenges faced during the development of hydroelectric power plants and learn about the unique methods used to maintain the flow of Kurobe spring water. The museum features interactive exhibits, including a realistic theater experience simulating a ride on the Torokko Train, making it an engaging visit for both adults and children.
We came to Kurobe Unazuki Onsen the week after the end of the scenic train 😭. But lucky we managed to find this museum to get a feel of how the train ride would have been like. There's a VR train ride in the museum that you can enjoy. The place also tells a lot about the history of the dam and train ride. When I was here there's no one besides me and the counter staff. I was able enjoy the exhibitions peacefully 😊 I feel it's worth a visit while waiting for your train ride or if u are unable to ride the train like me. Syokudo and Teishoku restaurant
Iwata is a charming eatery that offers a delightful array of dishes, with katsudon being one of its standout offerings. This hearty pork cutlet bowl features thick meat simmered in a sweet and rich sauce, making it a comforting choice for many diners. While the preparation takes time, resulting in slightly higher prices, the quick frying ensures you won't wait long to enjoy your meal.

The store has an old-fashioned feel, and it feels like being at my parents' home, and the staff there are also relatives, so it was very comfortable. I had the katsudon and chashu noodles. It was so sweet and delicious that I wanted to eat it every day. It was a restaurant that I would definitely like to visit again. Keyakidaira Station is the final stop on the Kurobe Gorge Railway, situated at an elevation of about 600 meters where the Babadani River meets the Kurobe River. The station boasts its own observation deck, souvenir shop, and information center. Visitors can explore various trails leading to nearby attractions and enjoy stunning panoramic views of the gorge's geological wonders, with the Kurobe River flowing below and towering mountain peaks.

I found myself with an hour to kill here after I missed my train by less than ten seconds. The views from this location are amazing and there are a few shops to help while away some minutes though expect to pay a premium given the remoteness of the locations. The restrooms are large given the size of the station but they can be quite busy right after the train comes in (the ride up is about 90 minutes)

This place is amazing!!! I visited here during the autumn, so the colored leaves were beautiful. Even though the transportation fee for coming here and seeing the Kurobe gorge is expensive, it’s really worth the price. It’s a gorgeous and calm place. I recommended walking to the Babadani onsen. It takes around 1 hour, but it’s stunning.

A great area to stroll around with beautiful landscapes. There are several spots to visit, it's better to visit the visitor center to get the information of each places, they also includes the time require to walk from one place to another. The highlight here is the red bridge, the best spot to photograph it is from below the bridge, near the river.

Sarutobi Canyon, located near Keyakidaira Station, offers a serene and picturesque setting. The area is ideal for a peaceful stroll, with the sound of the flowing river providing a soothing soundtrack. While some parts of the path may be closed, visitors can still enjoy beautiful views along the way. A rest area before the closure point allows for relaxation while taking in valley and river vistas.

(Translated by Google) It's truly a beautiful scenery. I didn't meet many other people, probably because it was a short walk, but it's a must-see spot if you come to Keyakidaira. Thanks to this, I was able to enjoy the spectacular view all to myself while listening only to the sound of the river flowing, even though there was no one else around. As for how to get there, there is no road marked, but it generally follows the river. There is a road that goes down the road to Sarutobi Sanso and goes to Sarutobi Gorge. It can be slippery, so it's a good idea to wear shoes that take this into consideration. (Translated by Google) I traveled to Keyakidaira Station, the terminus of the Kurobe Gorge Trolley Train, and then embarked on a journey into this hidden gem, heading for Sarutobi Gorge, renowned for its breathtaking scenery. While it takes time and money to get there, the trolley train itself is a significant attraction. As some reviewers have said, "I preferred it to Takachiho Gorge," the sense of accomplishment and value for money was immense. Keyakidaira Station is significantly cooler than Kurobe Unazuki Onsen Station, so I highly recommend dressing warmly. The afternoon I visited in late October, the temperature was a chilly 12°C. However, the clear air, combined with the purity of the water, provided a pleasantly refreshing feeling. Sarutobi Gorge is an easy 20-30 minute walk from the station. However, I felt that the journey itself was one of the highlights of this place. The walk along the riverside, with its ups and downs, is by no means easy. You'll be awed by the topography carved by the rapids of the narrow, deep valley, and you'll have to navigate through several dimly lit tunnels and narrow, slippery paths. I was also afraid of falling rocks along the way, tapping the handrails with a bear repellent stick as I went, so I can understand why people said it was a bit scary. It may be difficult for those with weak legs, but the thrill and sense of adventure were one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much. Unfortunately, I also faced the reality that the trail leading to Sarutobi Gorge was closed due to the disaster that occurred in 2019. Many reviews have mentioned that falling rocks prevented them from getting close and they unfortunately weren't able to see it up close, and it seems that many people are eager to try again. You can proceed all the way to the rest area just before the road closure sign with a pole, and you can go a certain distance, so it's okay if you're hesitant. I also took a relaxing break on a bench just before the road closure, admiring the view of the valley and river. Being able to have the spectacular view all to myself, surrounded by no one else and listening only to the sound of the flowing river, allowed me to fully appreciate the truly beautiful scenery, and I truly felt that this alone was worth visiting. The view from this place can only be described as magnificent. The scenery is at its best on a clear autumn day, and the autumn foliage season, especially early November, lives up to its reputation for being particularly beautiful, allowing me to see the spectacular autumn leaves, and I was deeply touched by the beauty of the natural scenery. Sarutobi Gorge, with its narrow river where it's said monkeys jumped over, is also known as "Keiunkyo," which further speaks to the splendor of its scenery. It's a place worth returning to again and again, and the scenery is, needless to say, beautiful. It's a truly beautiful place, far from the Japanese clichés. There is also a foot bath near the station, so you can soothe your tired body after a long walk, and for more advanced hikers, there is the option of walking to Sobadani Onsen, which is another attraction. While I was thinking about how difficult it would have been to get here without this train, I thoroughly enjoyed the magnificent natural beauty created by the deep valley of Kurobe Gorge and the quiet, relaxing time.

Aimoto Bridge, originally built in 1626, was reconstructed with steel after being destroyed by a flood in 1969. Positioned at the point where the Kurobe River emerges from the plains, it offers stunning views of Aimoto Dam and the fish ladder upstream and widens downstream as it flows into the Sea of Japan. The bridge replaced its predecessor located 60 meters upstream and is situated where the river is narrowest.

What it once looked like is certainly a strange bridge. I couldn't help but get out of the car and take a walk around Aihonbashi. The view from the middle of the bridge was amazing. Nestled at the base of the south ski slope in Hakuba Iwatake Ski Resort, Hakuba Hitotoki-No Mori is a delightful new facility that offers a unique experience compared to its counterpart, Mountain Harbor. To reach this scenic spot, visitors can take a gondola ride up and then descend via the 5th line south lift. While small and medium-sized dogs are welcome in cages (which can be rented for free), larger breeds must either walk from Mountain Field or stay behind.

The Kurobe City Art Museum is a captivating destination that showcases the works of artists with local connections, as well as pieces from Japan's modern painting mainstream. The museum offers breathtaking views of Mt. Sogatake and the Tateyama mountain range throughout the year. What's there to say? Just look at the pictures and just go!! So beautiful! Along the way, stop by the kurobe dam to take photos of the alpine mountains 🏔️ and take a slow walk along the snow wall. There are 6 modes of transport, so be very vigilant of your timings especially if you're traveling alone. Check weather conditions before proceeding with the route. Also. Have an open mind, there are many inconsiderate tourists.

I have no idea why people can give a 5 star to such a messy unorganized company. Apr 17, snow was said to be the reason, instead of cancelling some morning tickets, all were kept loading onto the cable cars. We were delayed getting on the cable car by two hours and there wasn't enough time for going to the end station at Ogizawa. We were hushed and rushed to go from 2:10pm in 4 hours. No sight seeing, nor getting out to see the snow wall which is has too deceitful photos on the web. We were push and hurried to transfer from one vehicle to another, barely make it to the last bus service. I feel so humiliated and the chaotic mess of people got stuck waiting at all the stations was a joke. Besides, why the shipping of luggage has to be started at Toyama? We didn't know service was delayed until we were at Tateyama, to late to back out as luggage was already shipped. Why luggage has to be in Shinano-Omachi and not in Ogizawa or Nagano. We had an express bus ticket from Ogizawa to Nagano that we couldn't get off at Shinano-Omachi! There were many tour groups got stuck the same time. A tour guide mentioned the schedule was delayed very often. This part of journey is the most disappointing and upsetting and it made me feel like I don't want to go visit Japan again.

Must visit and ensure you queue for the individual line, don’t mix with the tour group

Cool day there. Wonderful views. Did it from Nagano side as a return ticket up to Murodo. Don’t forget to ask for the 2000 refund if you collected all the stamps!!

What an amazing experience. 10/10 will visit again.

Japan's most famous snow cliff is the "Snow Wall," or Yuki no Otani, on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. The 20-meter-high snow wall is naturally formed by the accumulation of thick snow during the winter and is open to the public in spring, typically from mid-April to mid-June. Visitors can hike among these snow cliffs for a unique experience amidst the breathtaking scenery.

Shōmyō Falls

4.6

Waterfall
Shōmyō Falls, located along the Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route in Japan, is a magnificent sight to behold. Standing at 350 meters tall, it is the country's tallest waterfall and consists of four stages. During spring, the snowmelt on the Midagahara plateau gives rise to Hannoki Falls, creating a stunning twin waterfall effect alongside Shōmyō Falls. Additionally, visitors can witness Somen Waterfall appearing next to them as a rare spectacle.
Amazing view in autumn!

Worth the short detour from Tateyama, especially if you have a car (but there's also a bus). Starting point of many trails in the area. We were lucky enough to also see the Hannoki Falls (adjacent), as it had been raining during the day (tallest waterfall in Japan)!

(Translated by Google) November 8, 2020 The peaks and Shomyo Falls received their first snow cap.It has been a long time since I came here, but the waterfall, autumn leaves, and snow cap are impressive. You have to walk about 1km from the parking lot, but it's worth the walk. It seems that things like electric wheelchairs are also available for rent, so even people with disabilities can cope with the situation to some extent. However, it is already cold this season and you need to take measures to protect yourself from the cold.

(Translated by Google) In conclusion, the promenade is currently closed, so you can't go to the waterfall viewing platform near Shomyo Falls. However, the scenery along the way was very good, and the color of the river was clear and beautiful. It's the end of April, Golden Week, and there's so much snow left, so I guess the best time to see it is around the end of May. Nowadays, you can only see the waterfall from a distant observatory, so I hope this will be helpful for those who are planning to visit in the future.

(Translated by Google) I visited in the middle of summer. With water spraying all around, it was very cool! I think it's easier to visit in the hotter months as it's not as crowded. Although the path from the Shomyo-daira parking lot is paved, it is a fairly steep uphill climb, so you'll need comfortable shoes, water, and sunshades.

(Translated by Google) The scenery was spectacular. The rice balls we ate on the benches at the observatory filled with ions while listening to the sound of the waterfall were delicious. It was fun to see alpine plants along the way from the parking lot to the waterfall.

Conveyor belt sushi restaurant
At Kito Kito Sushi Restaurant, the ocean's bountiful fish are savored as they sway in turbulent waves, resulting in delectable flavors. This charming establishment offers reasonably priced sushi dishes served on delightful express models that captivate children's hearts. A wide selection of delicious fish and high-quality rice await diners who can conveniently make reservations through various online platforms, especially recommended for weekends and holidays.
Great local sushi shop from Toyama . Good selection. Love it

Nice Sushi Restaurant. You can order on a tablet or take sushi from the moving belt, carefull as there is no actual sushi on the belt, when there are few visitors. Me and my family came here multiple times, even driving over an hour from our home because it’s the best sushi in our vicinity.
Wilhelm V — Google review
Although the quality is pretty good for the price(which isn't low), the wait times at Kito Kito can be pretty long, as there isn't that much space. The shinkansen kaiten is fun for the area, and I like the old-fashioned style of the interior. My friend however was chastised a few years ago when she wanted to put ponzu sauce on her tempura, which one of the sushi chefs came out to tell her not to do that, which was pretty rude. Other than that, it's a decent place.

Here, fishes in the sea are tossed about by heavy waves, and therefore taste very good. In this restaurant, reasonable sushi dishes are served. The dishes are delivered on charming express models : ) Children loved them much ! A lot of kinds of delicious fish and also good rice. Reservation via internet and so on is available, which is recommended especially on weekends and holidays.

(Translated by Google) As you can see in the photo, the red meat is really vibrant. It's the first time I've ever seen it like that. The flavor was so rich that I ended up ordering three plates. The other toppings also surpassed the best sushi I've ever had in my life. As someone who usually thinks that 100 yen at sushi restaurants has become around 150 yen, the prices are all a bit dizzying, but after eating one plate, the price doesn't even matter. It even feels cheap. I was right to come here. If I have the chance, I'll definitely go again.
