Nojimazaki tōdai Lighthouse, situated at the southernmost tip of the Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture, is a 19th-century beacon offering stunning views and unique experiences. Visitors can climb its spiral stairs to reach an observation deck with a large lens providing a humorous atmosphere up close. The cape where the lighthouse stands is renowned for stargazing and sunset views, with a popular sunrise and sunset viewing bench on higher ground.
Worth the time and effort to visit it. Open skies, beautiful waves and rocks. And if you did manage to take the 88 steps to reach the top of the light house, you will be awarded with a breath taking view. Worth every calorie you burn.

As far as lighthouses go this one was ok, nothing special, it was the shrine at the foot of the lighthouse that was more interesting to me, especially when you find the secret they keep hidden in the small wooden enclosure at the head of the sando (a giant phallus🤣)

Awa Shrine is a serene Shinto shrine located in the eastern end of Heisaura Bay, surrounded by lush grounds and about 200 sakura cherry trees. As the main shrine of the former Awa Province, it holds great historical significance dating back to the Jomon period. The shrine boasts beautiful and well-kept buildings, a holy spring, and ancient remains found in a nearby cave.

There were many interesting aspects. Historical ancient remains from over 2000 years ago were found in the cave, there is a holy spring (you need to be cleansed before gathering water from it), the buildings are beautiful and well-kept, there are places to hike and see Fuji, and nature is respected and seems treasured (as can be seen in the bird sign). The fortune sheets are uncannily accurate. There was a singing Hototogisu.

The shrine was fine... pretty setting and easy to walk around, but the forest walk behind it was really nice. A couple of the high points had fantastic views. It was quiet too, so I got the place to myself. A full circuit of the forest path took about 1 hour.

Aloha Garden Tateyama is a delightful Hawaiian-themed park and zoo that transports visitors to a tropical paradise. Nestled among palm trees, this expansive venue features lush botanical gardens, vibrant greenhouses, and an engaging zoo where you can interact with various animals. The atmosphere is enhanced by captivating Hawaiian shows showcasing traditional Hula and Tahitian dances, along with unique culinary offerings that can't be found elsewhere.
Awesome place! Very large area to walk around. You can walk goats and hold geniepigs. Moderate cost and very kid friendly. Free parking. Lots of animals.
Paul A — Google review
Feels a bit under the weather. Maybe needs to find a new vocation rather than ‘ Hawaii’. How about conservation of rare plants etc?
Jim B — Google review
I really enjoyed this botanical garden. There are several large atria housing numerous tropical plant species. The musa paradiaca are absolutely huge. There are some interesting birds in the facilities, too. I went during a weekday and there was almost no one around. If you love plants, it's well worth a visit. Though it's a bit difficult to get to if you're not driving. I took the JR highway bus from Tateyama Stn. and walked a bit. I would definitely return.
M. D — Google review
Quiet place to view tropical plants. The place also offers good backgrounds for photo ops!
Sarah B — Google review
I loved the tropical rainforest garden and for family with kids, the animals feeding experience is good too. Some of the animals were not looking well and the space assigned to each species was too small for some. The entrance fee is reasonable and the parking is free so it's not bad. The Hawaiian dance show was nice. However it only has a little cafe that serves junk food. There are limited options and the taste was bad so I recommend you eat somewhere else after your visit to the park.
M M — Google review
Very chill place, you can stroll at your own pace and the place is not overwhelming. Takes two hours to slowly do the whole park. You can buy snacks for the animals and for 500 yen you get a big bucket of vegetables to feed almost all the animals. It was a lot of fun. The loco moco at the cafe, however, was microwaved and not worth 1,050 yen. Big free parking lot, though. All in all, I'm satisfied.

Shiroyama Park is a picturesque destination that beautifully combines history and nature, making it a must-visit in Chiba. Nestled at the base of the majestic Tateyama Castle, this park is renowned for its stunning cherry blossom displays each spring, attracting visitors eager to witness the breathtaking bloom. The park features lush gardens adorned with hundreds of cherry trees alongside other seasonal flowers like camellias and azaleas.
Pretty much the best spot around when it comes to watching the cherry blossoms bloom (late-March to early April). Great view of the city and Tateyama Bay as well (including the sunset).

It’s like most castles in Japan, but worth stopping in to take a look. Nice view from the top and you can take a look at some lyrebirds, a monkey and a speaking cockatoo on the way up the hill. Recommend visiting when the cherry blossoms are in bloom, unfortunately, I was too early.

Nestled along the picturesque bayside, the Nagisa Museum offers a delightful glimpse into Tateyama's rich fishing heritage. As you step inside, you're greeted by charming merchandise featuring Sakana-kun, the beloved honorary stationmaster—perfect for fans looking to snag unique souvenirs. The museum showcases fascinating displays of vintage fishing equipment and old boats that tell stories of traditional fishing methods. One highlight is the impressive aquarium filled with vibrant marine life, alongside artistic works inspired by Sakana-kun.
I had no idea that Jack Myall had bought an old house in Tateyama and was living there! My hero! What a surprise! There are pufferfish that have been kept by humans since they were eggs. They are very attached to people and cute.

Seafood restaurant
Tateyama Nagisa Shokudo is a seafood restaurant located in a casual setting with a spacious terrace and water views. It offers Italian-inspired dishes alongside seafood bowls. Situated near a resort, this restaurant is known for its great food, beautiful interior, and stunning view from the deck outside. Patrons highly recommend visiting this place, as it provides an enjoyable dining experience.
We stopped here on the way home from camping in Tateyama. We didn’t expect such a fancy place! Some patrons were dressed up really nicely, celebrating special occasions, and we were just in our room clothes from the campsite, but it didn’t seem to matter at all. The food was really great. Fresh, delicious seafood, generous portions, extensive menu. We felt spoiled for choice and the meals we ordered were fantastic. Our daughter (4) loved her kids plate. It was more expensive than the meal we intended to have, but it was good value for money. The staff were friendly, and accommodating in making sure we could fit with our pushchair (our infant was sleeping). If you have a dog, you can sit together on the terrace. We will definitely return one day.

The food is excellent and large portion. Water, tea and wet napkins are self service. And order is via tablet, so kinda impersonal. However, staff who brought the food was friendly and explained what fish was included in my fish dish & sashim plate. braised fish dish was excellent! tuna bowl was so so.

Fantastic little cafee by the sea. I got my amazing lunch in, what, like 5 minutes. Impeccably laid out with the finest care. And the fish variants and taste? Amazing! If you are hungry in Tateyama do go here!

Had lunch there after beach. The restaurant is nice, menu is good, prices slightly higher for cafe. I would definitely come back multiple times to try more things from their menu. Only thing I wish is they had bigger glasses for water or put on pitchers on each table

Tateyama Nagisa Shokudo is certainly a restaurant I would return to if I was back in the area. The food is great, the interior is beautiful and the view/deck outside is stunning. It’s no wonder it’s so good; it’s connected to a nearby resort. 100% would recommend this restaurant.
Kenji O — Google review
Ocean view of Tateyama Bay and possibly Mt. FUJI. Fantastic pastry and gelato and Italian coffee. Decent food, with an emphasis on seafood (but may not satisfy the refined palette). Large portions (for Japan), crowded on weekends and holidays. Several spacious booths for families or groups of up to about six. Plentiful seating indoors and, weather permitting, outdoors. Order by digital tablet or menu. Cash only.

A highly amiable lady suggested trying the widely favored Zundan (verdant soybean paste) Dango at the Japanese confectionery establishment 里見茶屋 だんご, which also offers complimentary tea for dine-in patrons. The Dango itself was exceptionally delicate and the service provided epitomized Japan's renowned customer service, leaving a lasting impression that entices one to return.
Super friendly woman recommended the most popular Zundan (green soybean paste) Dango and let me know that it comes w/ tea if you eat in. The dango was one of the softest I’ve ever had and the service was a perfect example of amazing Japanese customer service that makes you want to go back! Definitely recommend as a break spot after visiting Tateyama Castle:)
Jennie W — Google review
This small teahouse was a beautiful surprise. The matcha was drink-all you can drink. And it was of a good quality. It was refreshing after climbing up to Tateyama Castle and going back down on a rainy spring day. What I loved was the dango sampler plate. There were 8 kinds. It's the same basic dango (sticky slightly sweet pastry made from rice) but the toppings are so good: black sesame, ever reliable red bean, sweet soy sauce, and other bean toppings. It's delicate in texture and almost custard-like in consistency. And don't even get me started on their ice cream flavors! There was matcha ice cream, houjicha, and black sesame ice cream. It is a must-try. And the price is reasonable, too. But just like most small businesses in rural Japan, it's a one-man show. The guy was the waiter who took our order, the same guy who prepared it, rang up our purchases and served it. We had to help by cleaning up after ourselves, putting our used cups and dishes on the counter, wiping our table, and putting our chairs back. It kind of felt like the stall was the owner's garage and the back of the store was where he lived. I could glimpse into the kitchen and it looked and felt like someone's home kitchen instead of a commercial or industrial type with stainless steel counters, etc. One goes up Tateyama Castle to feast one's eyes on Sakura and the view from a lofty mountain. One goes down to the small ochaya to feast one's taste buds.

The best dangos I have ever had in my 12 years living in Japan. It has a stretchy texture but it literally melts in your mouth in just 1 bite. Just like you are enjoying the love they put inside their hand-made dangos. Come with many options both sweet, like bean paste, and salty, like bacon and cheese. The only downside is that, there are only 2 people, a lady and her son? So service time is about 15 minutes or longer. But it is really worth the wait.

(Translated by Google) I was lucky to get there just in time because there was an opening, but if you are planning to buy some, it is better to make a reservation. I ordered a set, and these dumplings have a very soft texture. You can't really taste the dumplings themselves, and they are overpowered by the flavor of the seasonings such as the bean paste. So, it is not suitable for people who like the chewy texture of regular dumplings or those who want to enjoy the original taste of dumplings. The red bean paste had a weak red bean flavor. The bonito flakes were grilled, but they were not lightly burnt, but completely black. It smelled burnt and I couldn't taste it. I regretted buying a set of nine as a souvenir before eating them. I brought them home, but everyone in the family had to eat a bite. The souvenir dumplings were mushy around the edges, and the texture was very bad, making them even more unpleasant. They were not the kind of dumplings I would want to eat again.

The inside of the store is very thoughtful, with not only an eat-in space, but also merchandise and souvenirs. This time, I ordered the dango, and there was a dango named after Satomi Hakkenden, so although the price is a little high, my expectations are high. A bite, huh? What is this! Although it is shaped like a dumpling, it is extremely fluffy and has a marshmallow-like texture that makes your brain tremble. I took another bite and found the dango to be very smooth, an experience with a completely new texture! Yes, it tastes good. However, if you're imagining a normal bun, you'll probably be ``hmmm'' at the gap. Soba noodle shop
Handmade Soba Hide-chan is a renowned restaurant that attracts visitors every summer. The carefully sourced soba noodles and delicious soup stock are the highlights here. The side menu offers unique items, such as the homemade vegetable salad with delightful dressing. One of their specialties is the sake-steamed sea squirt, which is steamed with its shell on. Visitors also praise the salted red squirt from Nemuro.

The side menu has some unusual items. The homemade vegetable salad goes so well with the dressing that I have it every time. The exquisite sake-steamed sea squirt is steamed with the shell on. This year, I tried salted red squirt from Nemuro for the first time. First, it is served as a frozen rouibe, and as it gradually melts, the sweetness and saltiness become one, and it is quite delicious and goes well with sake. I'm looking forward to going again. I visited for the first time with my family the other day. The two kids had chicken dipping noodles. My husband has two types of mori soba. I had warm mushroom soba. I wonder if the soba production area changes depending on the menu... All of the soba noodles were very delicious, especially the chicken dipping sauce, which went well with the soba noodles. The flavor and oil of the fragrantly grilled chicken was amazing, and I would definitely order the Shamono Tsukesoba next time. There are some reviews saying that the owner is unfriendly, but he was very kind to us, even though it was our first time visiting with children, and he was a kind person. I instantly became a fan. I would definitely like to visit again when I go to Boso. This time, the two of us visited and had ``Seiro Soba'' and ``Wasabi Soba'' made with buckwheat flour from Togakushi, Nagano. The soba soup is an original made by the owner, and is flavorful, mellow, and goog. If you mix it with creamy soba water and drink it, it becomes even more rich and addictive. Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Daifukuji Temple (Gake Kannon), then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Sunosaki Lighthouse. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Daifukuji Temple, also known as Gake Kannon, is a stunning scarlet-hued temple nestled against a cliffside that offers breathtaking views of the coast. This serene Kannon temple features an impressive Buddha image carved directly into the rock, creating a unique spiritual atmosphere. While access to the upper areas may be challenging for some visitors due to steep trails, the lower main temple is easily reachable and provides a peaceful spot for reflection and prayer.
A peaceful and beautiful Kannon temple built on a cliff. Opens only till 430pm so plan your trip ahead. Climbing up the trail can be tricky for the elderly. The view at the top is great. The lower main temple can be accessed easily. A great place to stop by and pray for peace. Parking is sparse but there are other free nearby parking. Clean toilets are available next to the parking area

It's a challenging climb up the side of a hill. The steps are uneven and it was raining when we were there. However, elderly Japanese locals were climbing the shrine and so we had to try to climb it. There is nothing unusual to see because it looked like any other shrine. The rock formation above the shrine, however looked like it had been scratched by a giant predator. And the view from the balcony of the shrine with the Sakura adorning the path going up the mountain was quite lovely.

The temple looked very unique. I decided to visit the temple. I used a JR train. I got off at Nakofunakata station. Please check the timetable, as this location is not in the center of Tokyo. I mean, the trains don't run very often. I walked to the temple. I could see the temple far away. I arrived at the entrance. I had to walk up the stairs more! When I reached the top. The views were breathtaking. It was worthwhile walking!

Museum
Tateyama Castle, located in Tateyama City, offers a unique experience with its hilltop location providing panoramic views of Tokyo Bay and the southern Boso Peninsula. While it's more of a museum than a traditional castle, it features an interesting exhibit about local legends. The short hike to the castle through Shiroyama Park is rewarded with stunning vistas and the chance to see Mt. Fuji on clear days. Visitors can also enjoy the beautiful surroundings, especially during cherry blossom season in April.
the view from the castle is beautiful .in the clear view mt.fuji also seen.

Entering the castle grounds is free. Even the parking is free. You can enjoy walking up the mountain and enjoying the spreading Sakura trees. Your kids can enjoy the Sakura in the playground area. Entering the castle itself, which is now a museum, costs around 300¥ but this fee and the ticket purchased at the castle museum will also serve as your ticket to the Hakkenden Museum. The castle museum's highlights are the woodblock prints and comics from the early 1900s, and the view from the castle's lookout point. At the other museum, the highlights are the hut or a replica of a hut from the 1800s before electricity and before the use of concrete and timber. It is made from bamboo and thatch roofing. It is an ordinary house from a village around Tateyama. They have beautiful brass and clay cooking implements, bamboo baskets and a loom. There is also an array of pictures from around the area before, immediately after, and 100 years after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923.

A spot you should definitely visit if you're in Tateyama. The castle itself is a little dissapointing - it's more of a museum than a proper castle, but it has an interesting exhibit about a local legend inside (all in Japanese). Nestled within the scenic Shiroyama Park, the Tateyama City Museum Main Building is a captivating destination that offers a glimpse into the region's rich maritime history and its past under the rule of the Satomi clan. This charming replica castle not only showcases an impressive collection of artifacts from around ten generations ago but also provides breathtaking views of Mount Fuji, Tateyama City, and Tokyo Bay.
This museum is up a mountain. From the free parking area, there are two ways you can go up the mountain. To the left are stairs and to the right is a sloping ramp where cars and taxis and wheelchairs can make its way up the mountain. The castle itself is a replica of the original. The facade with its architectural features was rebuilt from.photos but the inside could not be rebuilt. It was destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 and then it also sustained damage during WW2. The best things in the castle: 1) a stamp machine where you can get a medallion of the castle engraved with your name and the date of your visit. 2. A collection of comics depicting life in the castle and in the town surrounding it. The comics dated to the late 1800s and the 1900s to assist people who were illiterate when there was no free basic and universal education. 3. You can go to the very top of the castle and get a 360° view of the town, the surrounding mountains, the rice fields, the pier and the sea itself. 4. They have a collection of different varieties of Sakura (white and pink). 5. You can visit in the fall as well and the place would be flush with autumn hues. It's quite an accomplishment to climb to the very top. And you are gifted with a beautiful view of Sakura.

Go up the circular road up to the castle and enjoy superb views of Tateyama city. The castle is not big but still impressive by its elegant design. On the grounds there is a lookout with binoculars which are free, a gracious gesture by the Tateyama Lions Club. The place is swept by a refreshing gentle breeze. For a mere 400 yen you get access to the castle. Highly recommended. You can climb to the top for amazing views. Inside there are three stories of various exhibitions. Of particular note are the puppets from a Showa Era childrens tv show involving NINJAS! There is no english signage so foreignera will be on their own. The ticket also gives acces to the Tateyama City Museum, also located in Shiroyama Park. It's worth it. Take the Uchibo line and come to Tateyama.

Nestled in the heart of Japan, the Akayama Underground Bunker offers a fascinating glimpse into military history. This extensive underground trench stretches an impressive 1.6 kilometers, with 250 meters open to the public for exploration. For just 200 yen, visitors can step back in time and witness firsthand the remnants of World War II as they navigate through hand-dug passages that once sheltered soldiers and equipment from air attacks.
(Translated by Google) I visited for VR photography, but for 200 yen you can rent a helmet and flashlight and go inside. I think you'll be able to find your way inside without a flashlight without any hassle. It's also a little cold, so it's a good idea to use the restroom before going in! Two things to note: 1. There are some areas where the sand and smoke can be quite strong, so if you have a sensitive throat, it's best to wear a mask. 2. Be careful not to shine your flashlight on the ceiling in areas that are off-limits and dark. Reason: There are a lot of large centipedes (or maybe centipedes?) there. If you're not good with them, be sure to explore areas with streetlights!

There's a ton of sections that are closed to even worse, open but doesn't come with lighting, they lend you a small flashlight that's just a tiny bit better then your phone and if you actually wanna see stuff you should bring a big flashlight of your own. Also, it's kinda scary so not for everyone in my opinion.

(Translated by Google) When I visited, I felt that it could do with being busier, as a facility? as a historical site? Maybe? The scale of the site cannot be compared to the former Oya Stone Quarry, but I think it is a very valuable facility from a historical perspective and should be better known. To enter, you pay at the entrance to the adjacent building, are given a yellow helmet and a flashlight, and are shown to the location of the underground bunker entrance. Although it is a little far away, the wire mesh door is easy to tell that you are here. Upon entering, you can smell a slight moldiness and feel the cool air. The temperature drops sharply as you go deeper, making it a very comfortable place to be in the summer. As you walk through the dimly lit mine, the unique wavy texture of a hand-dug tunnel and the two-tone and three-tone layers of the rock create an optical illusion, giving you a strange feeling that makes it difficult to grasp the distance. There are some handwritten captions and parts surrounded by rafters that give it a handmade (cheap) feel, which is a bit of a letdown, but as this is a place to display historical heritage, it can't be helped as they are operating within a limited budget. That said, I think that if they could operate the place in a way that emphasizes its appeal as an attraction and sense of adventure while retaining the atmosphere and rarity of the place, it could attract more visitors.

If it's crowded, park in the parking lot reserved for pool users. The hall is accessible by walking past the pool (about a 2-minute walk). After paying at the Toyotsu Hall ticket machine next to the bunker, a staff member gives you a helmet and light, and you're free to explore. The atmosphere suddenly shifts as you approach the bunker. There isn't much electricity inside, so without a light, it's easy to fall. It's cool for a while from the entrance, making you feel like you're in a summer resort, but as you go further inside, it gets hotter thanks to the emergency exit that leads outside. It's fairly spacious. There are signs at key points, and while there are no obvious remains, the vivid traces of hand-digging give a real sense of how much people actually used the area. A quick exploration takes about 10-15 minutes. Finally, return your gear to the basket at the desk in front of the hall. I think this level of quality is reasonable for 200 yen for adults. It is said that there are few sites like this in Japan, but the Akayama Underground Bunker, with a total length of approximately 1.6km, is one of the largest underground bunkers in the country and is one of Tateyama City's most representative war relics. It is unclear when it was built, but it is said that no other bunkers of this size were built before the outbreak of the Pacific War in 1941 (Showa 16). On the other hand, there are also testimonies that construction began in the early 1930s, but it is a historical fact that the military at the time only began to build air-raid shelters in earnest after 1942 (Showa 17). The distance between the large underground bunkers built throughout Japan is generally 10-20 meters or more (the Zozan Bunker at the Matsushiro Imperial Headquarters in Nagano City is 25 meters). However, the Akayama Bunker is only 5-10 meters wide. Its construction suggests that it was likely built after 1944 (Showa 19), as the end of the war was imminent. Toward the end of the Pacific War, when U.S. air raids intensified, the Akayama Bunker was used as an air-raid shelter for the Tateyama Naval Air Group, as evidenced by the remains of a power plant inside, testimonies that the Tateyama Naval Air Group actually conducted its administrative work in the bunker near the end of the war, and testimonies that it also served as a hospital. [Excerpt from the on-site information board] It's been a few years since I last visited, and it feels less like an obscure spot than before, with tickets now available at ticket machines. However, the illumination of the rental flashlights is still low... If you're just looking around, the interior lighting is sufficient, but if you're interested in exploring the off-limits areas further back, we recommend bringing your own flashlight.

A nice lighthouse with a good view of the nearby Islands and faraway mountains. If the weather is clear you can Mount Fuji. In my picture on a cloudy day we had a partial view of Mount Fuji. The climb up to the lighthouse is short and easy. Parking is sparse and if you want to park further and walk. Worth a stop by if you are nearby

Located at the southwestern tip of the Bōsō Peninsula, it serves as an important navigational landmark marking the entrance to Tokyo Bay. The view is magnificent. I’ll come back again in the clear air of autumn. It has also been designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. It seems to be a popular spot for couples, so the three rough-looking old guys that we are decided it was best to make a graceful exit.

(Translated by Google) After visiting Okinoshima, I wanted to eat ramen for lunch, so I searched on Google Maps and found this restaurant with good reviews. I thought it was irresistible for back fat lovers! So I went there! Ramen 790 yen, seasoned egg topping 60 yen. I chose the extra rich version. They explained that the seasoned egg that day was overcooked, but I still liked it so I ordered it. I think it's usually more half-cooked. I love back fat ramen and go to a lot of different places, but this is the first time I've had such a gentle and well-flavored back fat ramen!!! The flavor is not strong, but it's full of flavor, and even though I'm used to lighter flavors, it's very easy to eat, and it really was as gentle as the reviews said. My husband ordered the rich version and we compared the flavors, and both were delicious! I ordered the extra rich version, but it was so gentle and well-flavored that I could drink the whole soup. I think they probably only accept cash. There is parking for about three cars, and it's behind the restaurant. I'm grateful for everyone's reviews, as I'm sure I would never have come across this flavor if I hadn't searched on Google Maps. It's been a while since I've had ramen that was so well-made and had such a personal touch. I'll definitely go back when I come to Okinoshima again! I ordered the maximum amount, "extra rich," but the back fat wasn't too heavy and I was able to eat it easily, so I hope this helps when choosing your menu. (Translated by Google) Usagiya in Tateyama City is a ramen shop beloved by YOSHIKI. This popular ramen shop offers four levels of back fat, attracting both locals and customers from outside the prefecture. There's only one ramen menu, but you can choose the amount of back fat to suit your taste, from light to extra rich. The soup, despite the back fat, is light and rich, creating a flavor you'll never tire of. Adding garlic midway through adds a punch and makes it even more delicious. The curly noodles are a perfect match with the soup. The ramen at this shop is best known for its incredibly tender, tender pork slices. The recommended topping is the pork slices. The side dish, "pork rice," is also popular and delicious. The shop is run by grandparents, creating a warm, homey atmosphere. The polite and warm service seems to further increase customers' satisfaction with their trip. Apparently there can be long lines on weekends and holidays, but it seems to be relatively empty on weekdays. Please note that the shop is only open during lunch hours. It's located near Tateyama Castle, so it's a great place to stop by on a stroll. Unagi restaurant
Izuki is one of the top two establishments in the Tateyama, Minamiboso, Awa region renowned for its outstanding broiled eel dishes. This restaurant boasts a stunning Japanese modern design both inside and out, complete with a meticulously crafted tsuboniwa garden. Guests can choose between traditional tatami seating or regular tables, with the option to reserve a private tatami room or even utilize the upstairs area for special occasions.
This is one of the two traditional eel unagi restaurants in Tateyama and features a nakaniwa 中庭, a central enclosed Japanese garden, as well as a tastefully planted and upkept outside perimeter in the Zen kara sansui から山水 fashion. The three prices for eel on rice, unajuu うな重 are all the same quality eel in different amounts (sizes), though the amount of rice stays the same. With the eel comes your choice of regular dark miso soup or a broth with eel liver (kimo), which is considered a delicacy with rumored health benefits. I usually order the fried chicken on rice torikaraagejuu 鶏の唐揚げ重, while my Japanese spouse orders the smallest eel dish, "ume". Be sure to try the 山椒 sanshou Japanese pepper in the little wooden container. We shake it liberally onto eel and fried chicken, but it's a bit of an acquired taste (as is wasabi). Sanshou 山椒 has a slight numbing effect and is a key ingredient in the Chinese dish Mabo Tofu 麻婆豆腐。

Syokudo and Teishoku restaurant
Arakawa is a popular eatery frequented by many, including Michael Westin, who commutes to work daily on his bike. The store showcases food samples that reflect its rich history. The slightly tanned appearance of the staff hints at their resilience. Lately, sauteing has become a favorite cooking method, especially with the savory sauce they offer. One must try their delectable pork sautee dish accompanied by a mini salad for a health-conscious choice.

A short walk from Tateyama Station is this popular restaurant, ``Arakawa Shokudo''. The exterior has a melancholy atmosphere, and the interior has a very old-fashioned feel. In the popular program "Ad Street Heaven" broadcast in 2016, it was ranked 17th in the Tateyama special episode, and has been introduced as a popular restaurant loved by locals. I visited on this day around 12:15 on a weekday. The restaurant was almost full, and even though it was lunch time, it was so popular even though there weren't that many people around. It's a level that makes you think that everyone who works around here is using it. In addition to the omelet rice I ordered, many customers ordered fried shrimp, katsudon, and chicken saute, which are unique to areas near the sea. It's affordable, delicious, and served quickly. If you have a chance to stop by for work, please consider it as a candidate. Please be careful as it is a range.” Originally, this place had received harsh reviews for its vinegared rice preparation, but due to the typhoon, the business was abandoned. All business operations have been suspended. There was a notice saying that the restaurant had moved. Well, if you come here, it's customary to go to a certain restaurant that is famous for inaka sushi, so you can say that there is no problem. Some people have written various things about it, but it's a normal fishing port scenery, and it's not like there's filth strewn about like at Shinbashi Station right before the last train. In short, there are no people, in a good or bad way. It's the only third-class fishing port in Minamiboso, so I think it has potential... During a visit to Awakoyasanmyoonin, in August 2021, it was disheartening to witness the aftermath of war air raids which had caused significant damage to most of the temples. However, at present, these religious sites have been restored to their former glory. On that particular day, a red stamp served as a record-keeping tool and was inscribed by the wife of the chief priest. Looking forward to another visit during warmer weather.

When I parked my motorcycle in the parking lot and went through the gate, I saw ginkgo fruits falling, and just as I was reminded of my mother's love of ginkgo, a cheerful woman's voice said, "I might get my feet dirty! I'm sorry!" When I saw it, a woman wearing a robe politely said, ``Please come visit the main hall. It's cool because it's air-conditioned. If you have any questions, please ask. The bikes are cute.'' At this point, it has become an unforgettable temple ^ ^ After visiting the main hall, we cooled down indoors and visited the 88 sacred sites of Mt. However, there isn't much traffic, so even a camper can go there. The parking lot is gravel. There are trees overhanging the parking lot, so be careful when parking tall cars in the parking lot. [Praying at the temple] I searched on Google and found out that this is a temple that is a direct descendant of the Shingon sect of Mount Koya. They say that the fire in the inner sanctuary is always lit. *I received hot water boiled with a fire lit by Kukai at Mount Misen in June 2024, so I'm very interested in this temple again. As with Mount Koya and Mount Misen, I have been guided to many places related to Kukai. But actually, I was looking for Cliff Kannon on Google and headed there, and ended up at this temple (I went to Cliff Kannon after this, but couldn't get to the top due to a landslide). It seems that Kukai called me again this time. A woman called out to me from the main hall and gave me a detailed explanation inside. It was a very homely experience that will become a memorable part of my trip. Next time, I'd like to try copying sutras and making the pilgrimage to all 88 temples. Thank you. I'm grateful to Kukai. All buildings except the bell tower, including the main hall, were destroyed by air raids during the war, and even the bell tower still has the burnt marks from the air raids, testifying to the tragedy of the war. The main hall was rebuilt in 2012 with eyes from all over the country. Inside the main hall, there are many wonderful Buddhist statues, including the principal image of Nyoirin Kanzeon Bodhisattva. We also got to see some limited-time Buddhist paintings. There are a wide variety of Goshuin stamps, and I was confused, so I ended up getting a double-page Goshuin stamp with Kobo Daishi's strawberry stamp on it. Thank you for responding so quickly. Before leaving, I was advised to stop by the Awa Koyasan 88 Sacred Sites on the left side of the temple grounds, and since I had time, I only looked around the area near the entrance. If you go all the way to the back and come back, please pay the entrance fee of 300 yen. The stone Buddha in the mountains is very mysterious. In particular, temples carved out of rock walls to enshrine Jizo and other Buddhas are often seen in Tateyama City and Minamiboso City. Is it a characteristic of Chiba Prefecture or the former Awa Province? I have less than 6 months left in my job in Goi, Ichihara City, so I decided to drive to Tateyama City, a place I rarely get to even though I live in Chiba Prefecture! Today, the weather was nice and we left the accommodation at 7:00am and drove for about an hour via the Higashi-Kanto Expressway Tateyama Line, arriving at the parking lot under the cliff Kannon! First, we will visit Daifukuji Temple (Gaki Kannon), Suwa Shrine (Daifukuji Temple), Nagoji Temple, Tsurugaya Hachimangu Shrine, Tateyama Castle, Tateyama Shrine, Suzaki Shrine, and Awa Shrine in Tateyama, and then head to Awa Koyasan Myonin Temple! After driving for about 15 minutes from the Awa Shrine worshiper's parking lot via National Route 410, we arrived at the Awa Koyasan Myoonin parking lot! When I prayed at the main hall, there was a goshuin written on the left side of the gift box, so I received the goshuin of ``Fudo Myoo'' for 500 yen! Mandarin restaurant
The Mandarin restaurant, known as Hoki-rou, is a delightful Chinese eatery that offers delectable dishes. It is rumored that the chef has a prestigious background working at the former Imperial Hotel. The establishment takes great precautions to ensure safety from infectious diseases and also provides convenient take-out options. Whether you dine alone or with others, there are no concerns about using their services.
(Translated by Google) This is one of the recommended lunches in Tateyama. Authentic Chinese food for around 1,000 yen! ! ! Although it looks expensive from the outside, the lunch menu is reasonably priced and filling. Even so, it's not always crowded, which I find strange. What I always order is black sweet and sour pork. When I ate it for the first time, I was surprised at how delicious it was. Plenty of quantity. Even with shrimp chili, sometimes the size and amount of shrimp is disappointing. Please rest assured. The shrimp are really big and there are a lot of them. The noodles are served in large bowls, and every dish is sure to satisfy. Why isn't it crowded? Locals are always visiting. I guess everyone just doesn't know. That's why I am writing a review. It's a little too quiet, so I think it would be a better atmosphere if there was some music playing. anyway! ! ! Please go and try it✴︎✴︎✴︎ (Original)

Closed. Owners keep changing. The below is not necessarily the case. Best Chinese food (Japanese style) in all of the Tateyama, Minamiboso, Kamogawa "Awa" area. Reopened with a great new Chinese cook and new management in late Nov. 2021. Now unrivaled, high quality, flavorful ingredients, delicious soup stock and noodles, ramen, gyoza, very good cashew- chicken. This is the kind of Chinese food we've been waiting for.

This place reopened a while ago, and we all went to eat there during the pre-opening, and the gomoku noodles that came out were completely different from the one in the photo, so I thought I'd never go there again, and it closed right after that, so I guess it's true! ! Just when I thought about it, it was reopened again💦 I revisited it to see what it was like and if it had gotten better. My late parents liked this restaurant and used to come here often, so I stopped by while visiting their graves. result… The gomoku noodles were much better than last time. The shrimp chili was also delicious. That's how good it was. In any case, we don't have enough manpower. Drinks and food, even though we don't have enough manpower. It's even more clumsy because he doesn't bring it on a tray, he just carries it in his hand. Drinks never arrive! The same menu as other tables' orders comes first. Even though it's the same noodle dish, ramen doesn't come out. The fried rice is also bland. Only food comes at strange times🍚 The image on the tablet and what came out are quite different. Anyway, the food service time was too slow. I feel bad because some of the dishes came earlier than the customers who had just entered and ordered them. I'll never go again. Maybe it was because it was a public holiday and the weather was bad? The number of customers was good, but If you're going to this store, I don't think you can wait unless you have plenty of time and stomach. (Translated by Google) It was my first time visiting. There was a lot of volume for the price. However, when I came to the shrimp chili, it was 1,000 yen with so many big shrimp in it? I was so excited, but when I ate it, I found that it had a very thick coating on it, and I was very disappointed, as there was more batter in my mouth than shrimp. I have never eaten shrimp chili with such a thick batter. And shrimp of this size won't cost more than 1,000 yen. So minus 2 stars. However, the sauce was delicious. Also, everything my family ordered was delicious, so I probably won't order the shrimp chili again, but I might come back to try other things. I don't usually eat almond tofu because I don't really like it, but it was delicious. The management seems to have changed, and although the building and name are the same, the food is completely different. I was especially disappointed in the noodles that my companion ordered. The soup is too lukewarm. Moreover, the noodles are frozen for commercial use. The soup also tastes like industrial concentrated liquid soup. There was no sense in serving the soy-sauce-flavored char siu, which also appeared to be in a commercial retort, on top of the salt ramen. I heard that the store had been run by a hired manager for about eight years, but the owner has now taken over the store directly and it has been reopened. The staff was a little awkward, but everyone was polite. I ordered a single piece of mapo. There is a small size for 1,400 yen and a large size for 2,100 yen, and since I was alone, I ordered the small. (There are many Chinese restaurants with this kind of price, but I wonder if they can do something like a set meal style, or a price and quantity that is easy for one person to order.) Being able to order only a single item on a large plate seems a bit old-fashioned. cannot be denied) The taste was quite delicious. It was piping hot with a lot of oil. Salvia Coffee is an exceptionally pleasant coffee establishment with a serene and enchanting ambiance. In addition to their self-roasted assortment of coffee beans, the cafe offers an atmosphere that suggests they take great pleasure in providing customers with exceptional coffee. This charming retro coffee shop boasts a remarkable selection of high-quality coffees in a tranquil and intimate setting. It is adorned with numerous pottery cups on display, adding to its uniqueness. The wishful desire for this cafe to be conveniently located nearby amplifies its appeal.
A very nice coffee place with quiet, calming and lovely atmosphere. Beside the fact that they have a variety of coffee beans which they roast themselves - which I won’t describe much but leave it for you to explore - the shop offers a feeling which indicates that they enjoy serving you good coffee.

(Translated by Google) I happened to stop by for lunch while on a road trip to Tateyama. There is parking for a few cars in front of the shop, and it seems there is a second parking lot on the other side of the train tracks. The exterior of the shop stands out with the bold slogan "Coffee beans are alive," but inside it has a relaxing atmosphere of a classic old-fashioned coffee shop. The staff were very attentive, and quickly poured me a refill after I finished my cold water, which I appreciated. I had the shrimp gratin and coffee lunch set. The gratin was served piping hot and delicious. Eating something like this in a cool shop in the summer feels like a luxury.
