Points of Interest & Landmarks
Katsuura Undersea Park is a nature preserve that features an ocean-viewing deck at the end of a pier, as well as an underwater observatory for watching marine life. Visitors can enjoy the scenic views of the ocean while walking down many steps to get under the water. The fish in the observatory are wild and represent those found in their natural surroundings. It is recommended to visit during weekdays since weekends tend to be crowded.
It is a very interesting place to visit, the waves are very strong on the surface of the water and crashing against the cliff to create the beautiful gradients against it. Then once you enter the undersea observatory, it is a whole new world, very calm and peaceful to view the sea life through the small windows. This structure is build in 1955, making it 70 yr old today! What a genius idea 💡 and who would have thought of this idea back in the day! Highly recommend when you are in Chiba and one who generally appreciates nature.
Geri Q — Google review
You can see Marine creatures living in their natural habitat and great ocean views. It's not an elaborate sightseeing spot, but a good place to feel the nature of the coastal area in the countryside. You need to walk down the stairs on your legs because there is no elevator or escalator.
Yuko — Google review
The location is beautiful and in terms of accessibility it will get 0 marks because the main attraction i.e. the undersea tower or park is not accessible at all. The main attraction is the undersea submarine park which 8 meter below water level. The problem is you have to go down using a spiral staircase. There is no lift or escalator that can help the people with disabilities. So for the disabled persons this place is not recommended. All other places except this location is accessible. It was a really sunny day when we visited the park. We went down but alas there is very few fishes that can be seen. The water was almost clear but we could not see enough fish. Bad luck for us. The ticket price was 650 yen/person. But we can see only the natural beauty of the location not fully enjoyed as we didn't see enough fish underwater. Another thing is that, the windows are not big enough, so sometimes it could really difficult to see underwater. Overall good experience but not what we were looking for.

Hijiki harvesting is a spring tradition in Katsuura City, Chiba Prefecture, taking place during the low tide of the spring tide in March. Fishermen enter the rocky shores 磯with sickles and backpacks, working together to harvest hijiki before the tide comes in. Around the rocky shores near Katsuura Marine Park, vast hijiki colonies can be seen, and you can observe local fishermen and their families gathering the seaweed. 三月はひじき漁が見られる。

Do you want to see fish in the wild under the sea without getting wet? This is the place. It's like an inverted lighthouse beckoning marine life to come say hello as they feed by the portholes.

When it’s sunny and the water is clear, your kids will love watching fish in the underwater tower. Entrance fee is a bit expensive but the scenery is wonderful!

Katsuura Marine Park Underwater Observation Tower

The Katsuura Marine Park Underwater Observation Tower offers a unique opportunity to observe marine life in its natural habitat. Visitors can witness various fish species and, if lucky, may even spot rare creatures like sharks and small dolphins. The tower provides an underwater viewing experience, making it a great option for those who don't scuba dive but still want to see fish underwater.
Visited on the sunny day, beautiful view of the pacific ocean. I enjoyed very much the underwater observatorium - saw lots and lots of fish swimming and hanging around. The weather was perfect and water was clear, beautiful fish swimming around. Had a great time with my partner here.
Edwin T — Google review
Pretty nice view. The underwater observatory is down around 96 steps with no elevator. They can hold baby carriages up top if you have one. The view downstairs is pretty nice viewing fish in their natural habitat. We went on a Saturday & it wasn't crowded at all. Walking to the observatory is also pretty nice since you are high up over the water.
Craig N — Google review
You have to park at the museum (which wasn't open the day we were there) and walk to this observatory. The pathway to the underwater observatory is the most scenic and best in good weather. The underwater observatory was underwhelming for myself but kids are fascinated by it. The ticket prices is on the high side too for nothing much of a view. You have to be lucky to spot some nice fishes.
Rtexal T — Google review
Prices are set by the clearness of sea water. the facility is getting a bit older and older ,I personally liked to visit to watch inside the depth
8358 Y — Google review
Place was interesting. You go under water 8 meters to look outside at fish. If it is clear? You can see lots of fish and things under water. If it is windy, the water will not be very clear, and you will only be able to see a few feet in the water, but they bait the fish to come close to the windows. The walk to the platform is interesting in itself. You get to see the result of many years of erosion be the waves and tide. I am uncertain if some of the shapes in the water were caused by acts of man. Overall, a good place to visit if you are in Katsuura prefecture.
Sean F — Google review
Good fun for kids to see the fish underwater. Cloudy and not guaranteed to see much but it is a fun experience to walk down the spiral steps and “go underwater”. The walkways to the tower itself is well worth it with incredible views of the ocean, brisk winds and sunshine.
Philippa H — Google review
Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea, but I liked it. It's a simple way to spend an hour or two. I enjoyed the concept (even though the water was kind of turbid on the day I went, making it difficult to see much). Best to go on a calm day; wind creates waves, which creates turbidity in the water.
M. D — Google review
Very nice underwater observatory and the view on the walk over is also great. A fairly unique attraction I think.

Ubara Swimming Beach, located in Katsuura City, Chiba prefecture, is a serene and secluded spot with a 430-meter stretch of coastline. The beach features calm waves that are perfect for swimming and sea bathing. One of its highlights is the picturesque torii gate of Ubara Yasaka Shrine, which creates a stunning backdrop against the sunset. Despite its proximity to the city, the beach boasts clear waters and clean sand.
This place is a hidden gem. Usually not too busy and they have parking. ¥1000 per day. Very clean and easy access. Very narrow streets to get there but that keeps it hidden and off the grid. The beach usually gets busy by 10am but usually plenty of space on the beach. Good for kids as the left side is usually calmer waves than the right side. Right side is good for body boards.
Brad C — Google review
A family friendly beach with no big waves. Even on a weekend it’s not too crowded. Separate marked area for swimmers and surfers. Car parking is uniform ¥1000 per day and there is shop which let you have shower for ¥200 per person. Unlike bigger beaches there are no shops where you can rent floats beach, umbrellas etc.
Naresh D — Google review
Very cute beach in the small gulf, the waves are small and good to learn surfing, you have to paddle yourself around and will not get smacked down by the waves. There are shattered shells on the beach so the sand is of brighter color. There is a small white Torii for your selfies and can hike around to caves and rock tunnels, some are forbidden entry and still beautiful. There is a food toilet on the top of the stairs to the beach. Not many eateries around, Ubara is a very small town with limited public transport.
ADEYTO A — Google review
One of the most family-friendly Chiba beaches on the Pacific side with smaller waves (thus not so much for surfers), fine sand, clear water, and not too crowded even during a warm August Sunday. Our 3yo girl enjoyed it a lot. Plenty of parking for free around. Beside that don't expect many facilities and bring your own stuff.
Tobias L — Google review
Nice small beach, I is worth visiting if you are in Chiba or Tokyo, there is a parking place and the access is very convenient, also a shower is available until 4:00 pm. some times people bring fireworks at night.

The beach is quite nice with a small water area where children can play. You can also do surfing. The nearby road is a bit small to come by car, but it’s still possible.
Thang V — Google review
The English translation of this place is a bit strange. It's not a resort, but it's a beach playground in Ubara. The view here is amazing, and the waves are perfect for surf beginner. Note: There's no public facilities here to wash so better come prepared with a large towel :)

Restaurant
Family Restaurant Kodama is a laid-back spot with a nostalgic atmosphere where you can enjoy traditional dishes like dan dan noodles, rice bowls, and noodle soup. The food is excellent, and the restaurant itself may be small in size but it has fast service. If you prefer an English menu, just ask and they will gladly provide one. Additionally, there's a compact parking area located across from the restaurant for your convenience.
Fantastic! Great food, great atmosphere, very reasonable prices. I'd eat here every day if I could.

Local famous tantanmen restaurant. They serve nonspicy Tantanmen and various kinds of Japanese set meals. Katsudon tasted good.

Great food, small place, but very quick. English menu is available upon request. Small parking lot opposite of the restaurant
Kathy M — Google review
Delicious food, life saver since there’s not so much options to choose from in the station area. The chyasyu tantanmen ramen was huge and tasty. The pork steak was good. Yes, tables are less so you might find yourself outside standing if you’re there during busy time. Staff could be more polite. The owner is exactly as in the picture. Smiling.
Kai — Google review
One of the few restaurants in Ubara, this is slightly larger than a hole in the wall. They have capacity for 8 tables with 4 people per table. Maybe a little more if they are all skinny. There’s was a short line when we got there, and they were busy the whole time. The locals all seemed to eat here, which is usually a sign the food was good. We all had the signature tantanmen, and it was the best I’ve had. It seems to be a favorite in the Katsuura prefecture, and is slightly spicy. I say it was slightly spicy, but my Japanese in-laws thought it was very spicy. Service was fast and friendly. There isn’t a whole lot to do in Ubara, other than the underwater aquarium and a couple onsen, but if you find yourself in the area, this place should be in your list.

Kappo Nakamura is a laid-back establishment with a cozy ambiance that specializes in serving traditional raw fish dishes. When visiting for lunch, one might initially perceive the restaurant as unwelcoming, but upon being seated, the staff provides explanations of the menu and offers detailed instructions on how to indulge in their delectable fare. A notable highlight is their unique bonito served with mustard, which may not appeal to all palates.
Awesome sashimi and cooked mackerel, not great wine
Selwyn B — Google review
One of the more popular and high-end options in Katsuura, this restaurant offers exceptional seafood—fresh, perfectly prepared, with the added touch of staff explaining the details of the menu and how to best enjoy each dish. Recommend getting reservations and being prepared to spend a pretty penny; the cooked dishes were outstanding while the sashimi set “gozen” had some great fresh fish, that was not the case for all the sashimi, so the price for the quality is quite hard to justify. Recommended dishes: 鯖の灰干し、お刺身盛り合わせ1人前, and whatever is in season.

(Translated by Google) I made a reservation for dinner. According to Google information, it is open until 22:00, but after the coronavirus, it is now 20:00. Many stores in Katsuura are now closing early. I ordered two servings of the combination gozen. Based on the recommendation of the staff at the restaurant, I chose two dishes: mackerel ash-boshi and kama-ni. First, small bowls and chawanmushi are served. The amount of mackerel and kama-ni is quite large. All dishes are made with carefully selected ingredients and careful cooking methods. The sashimi of bonito is coated with mustard, then topped with green onions, and served with ginger mixed with soy sauce. You can really taste the bonito and it's very delicious. There is no odor at all. The owner's talk about cooking soon turned into a story about his career as a chef. Right now, I'm standing in the kitchen with my son. The agar agar dessert was also a special dish. It is currently the number one seafood restaurant in Katsuura. I hope to visit again soon. The Katsuura Morning Market is a charming street market located in the Hamakatsuura district of Katsuura City, Chiba prefecture. Dating back to 1591, this historic market offers an array of fresh seafood, produce, and prepared foods at great prices. Visitors can enjoy specialties like horned turban and Tantan Taiyaki while exploring the main shopping streets near Katsuura Station.
Open from about 6:00-11:00, but depending on the weather conditions the number of vendors might change. It's a small market, so you will find the standard things such as fruits and vegetables, mochi, tamagoyaki, shaved ice, coffee, tsukemono and grilled fish: not much but each and every one very delicious. About twice a month they have the so-called "Marché" where there's extra stands doing art, and selling chiffon cake for instance. If you try and chat with the locals you'll definitely be greeted with a warm, honest smile that will definitely make your day 😉 The morning market was one of the things that made my stay in Katsuura so memorable. At first glance people seemed to be wary of me, but once I got to talk to them they opened up completely in the blink of an eye! This is THE place to encounter and chat with the locals, and before we knew it we'd already been offered free coffee, horse mackerel and kinako jelly xD I literally went here little every day of my stay in Katsuura, and Spaice Coffee became a must-buy for the early mornings.☕ I definitely recommend coming early for the full experience of local life here. I bought a big bag of pears with spots on them for only 300 yen, and they were de-li-cious! I'd also recommend trying the grilled fish for only 100 yen, and of course the coffee which is definitely Instagram-worthy ;) Along the street where the market or held there are also the standard shops, so I recommend popping in there too for a chat and some kakikoori or tea ^^

They sell not only fish or marine products, but also sweets, flowers, and vegetables. The number of the shops seems to depend on the day of market. The staff is friendly and you can enjoy the vibe of local markets.

Katsuura Morning Market offers a charming, traditional atmosphere with a history spanning over 400 years. The market is best known for its local vegetables, dried fish, and specialties like warabimochi, which many visitors praise for its taste. While the market is lively on weekends and holidays, the number of stalls can be limited, especially on weekdays, and some visitors have found the selection smaller than expected. Fresh seafood is available but may sell out early, so arriving before 8 a.m. is recommended. Prices are not particularly cheap, but the quality of local products and the friendly interactions with vendors are highlights. Overall, it’s a pleasant spot for a stroll and sampling local flavors, though it may not meet high expectations for variety or bargains.

Amazing market. I used a JR train. The market was a bit far from Katsuura Station.I arrived at the market. I saw a lot of people and food stalls. I had already finished my breakfast. I walked around. I noticed that there were a couple of shrines and temples. I felt the history of Katsuura. The prices were a bit higher than I expected. I bought nothing. I wish I had been a hungry and rich man! People in western Japan say it's strange to grill and eat dried fish, but they don't know that drying concentrates the amino acids and enhances the flavor. I think there are dried foods available in Western Japan as well, but perhaps they are less common than in Eastern Japan.

I happened to come across the wife of the head priest as she was returning from an outing, and was able to see the transoms inside the main hall. Many Ihachi works remain in Kamogawa City and Isumi City, but they are rare in Katsuura. This temple was founded by Uemura Yasutada during the Keicho era (1596-1615). Each of Ihachi's works has a sign saying it was made in 1805. Katsuura's Hinamatsuri 🎎 is famous for the Big Hinamatsuri displayed on the stone steps of Tomisaki Shrine, but it seems that Kakuoji Temple also displays a large Hinadan. Most tourists come for Katsuura's morning market, Big Hinamatsuri, and Katsuura Tantanmen, but I would also recommend going to see Nami no Ihachi's sculptures. It was very vivid and left an impression on me. Regarding the origin of Kakuo-ji Temple itself, it is written as follows in "History Walk ⑫ Chiba Prefecture History Walk", Yamakawa Shoten, pages 253-254, so I will quote it here. After seeing the hina dolls, I thought it would be a good idea to take a walk inside the temple and learn about the history of Katsuura City. Walk southeast from Katsuura Station, cross National Route 128 at the Katsuura City Tona intersection, and walk about 1km to Kakuoji Temple (Jodo sect) next to the city library. This temple is a famous temple built within Katsuura Castle by the Uemura clan during the Keicho era (1596-1615). Later, when Yasukatsu Uemura died in 1634, it was moved to its current location and named after Yasukatsu's childhood name, Kakuomaru. The grounds include the graves of the Uemura clan, the Hokyointo pagoda, and the sculpture of Takeshi Ihachiro Nobuyoshi, known as the Ihachi of Waves. Additionally, the ``Uemura Tosa no Kami Hudasho,'' which relates to the origin of the morning market in Katsuura, remains. According to this document, all sales that were taking place in other areas of the castle town at the time were prohibited, and only allowed in Negoya, a town in Katsuura castle town. The morning market has continued for about 400 years. Today, it is considered one of Japan's three major morning markets, along with Noto Wajima (Ishikawa Prefecture) and Hite Takayama (Gifu Prefecture). Approximately 70 stalls are lined up on Shitamachi-dori during the first half of the month and on Nakamachi-dori during the second half from around 6 a.m. until noon, every day except Wednesdays. Furthermore, I will transcribe the information boards and other things I photographed to the extent that I can read them. Jodo sect Kakuoji Temple [Translation/commentary] Keicho 16, 1611. Keicho is the name of the earliest era of the Edo period, after the Battle of Sekigahara (1600), before the Osaka Winter Siege (1614) and the Summer Siege (1615). Yasutada Uemura, a descendant of the Toki clan, a direct line of the Mino-Genji clan, was a descendant of the Toki clan, a direct line of the Mino-Genji clan, and later became the Yakushi betto of Horai-ji Temple, which he called Anyo-in. A hero of Nansou who led monk soldiers to join Tokugawa Ieyasu in the Battle of Gahara, later returned to secular life and became a vassal of Ieyasu, and occupied Tateyama when Ieyasu moved to Kanto (1590). In preparation for the Satomi clan, he was assigned as a hatamoto in Katsuura (3,000 koku) along with Tadakatsu Honda (100,000 koku), one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Tokugawa, who was assigned to Otaki. At that time, he concentrated the markets that were held in each village at Negoya (Katsuura) as a daily market, and since then started the Katsuura Morning Market, which boasts a 400-year tradition. After that, it continued as Yasho (added to 9,000 koku - Yasutomo - Tadatomo (ranked as a feudal lord with 11,000 koku) - Shōcho - Tsunetomo. Kakuo-ji Temple is the family temple of successive generations. The ``Ko Uemura Ode Monument'' (composed by Atsushi Shioya) on the left as you enter the main gate of this temple is detailed. The translation is listed below for your reference. "Shotokuhi Monument" [Translation] Legend: We tried to make the expression easy to understand while making use of the original text. Order of the Second Rank, 1st Class, Duke, Tokugawa Family (Iesato), Large Frame The Uemura clan originates from the Toki clan in Mino. During the Entoku era, his distant ancestor Mochimasu Toki moved his residence to Kamimura-go, Totomi Province, and took the surname Kamimura from that place name. He later changed his name to Uemura and moved to Mikawa, where he became a subordinate of the local ruling family, Nagachika Matsudaira. That child, Ujiyoshi, had three children, and when they became adults, their names were Aki and Yasumoto. Both of them were loyal to their two lords, Kiyoyasu and Hirotada. Taisho Sakyo lost his parents at a young age, so he was raised by his cousin, the head priest of Horai-ji Temple, and became a pharmacist. In the 3rd year of Genki, he took part in the battle between Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu and Takeda Shingen at Mikatagahara with his monk soldiers and achieved great results, gaining a territory of 3,000 kan in Haibara District, Totomi Province, and returning to secular life, calling himself Tosakami Yasutada. Later, when Prince Ieyasu opened the Edo period, Yasutada was given the land of Kazusa Katsuura. In his later years, he shaved his head again and called himself Niihoin. His son, Yasukatsu, was brave and served in the army at Sekigahara and Osaka in winter and summer, achieving great military success. Yasutomo, Tadatomo, and Masatomo (Makitomo continued, and the number was increased until it became a daimyo with 10,000 koku. Seicho's son, Tsunetomo, was implicated in the sins of his relatives, The castle land was confiscated, but the shogunate recognized the achievements of the generations and continued the family name with Tsunetomo's son, Hikitomo, as the hatamoto. His descendants inherited the name and ushered in the new government of the Meiji era. Originally, Katsuura was a seaside village, and the people made a living by fishing. This was exactly the case when Yasutada was sealed in this area. We repaired the castle walls, set up markets, cleared wastelands, promoted industry, changed the boundaries of rice fields, and used this as an opportunity for development and promotion. Yasukatsu also inherited his father's compassion, worked to educate the people, and built a temple. This is the current Kakuoji Temple on Mt. Shusui. Chozaburo Uemura, a descendant of the Uemura clan, invested his fortune in renovating this temple, which had been left unrepaired for a long time. During the 150 years that the Uemura clan ruled Katsuura, good government was practiced, and people still revere their virtues. For this reason, the funds were donated competitively, and the mission was accomplished in no time. Volunteers recently conspired to erect a stone monument and asked me to draft an inscription to commemorate this enduring virtue. I have decided to write down, unwritten, that the legacy of the Uemura family has deeply touched people's hearts, and that the nostalgic gratitude of the local people will never go away. It says, The hill of Kakuo is blue and blue, and the sea of Naruka is bright and colorful. Ah, Mr. Uemura, the one hundred and fifty-fifth generation of conquering the one side of this world, the 155th generation of the people, the rich people, the wisdom, the light, the abundance of sweets, the bereaved love, the blessings, and the rich monuments of virtue. Great service and friendly staff who rented us bikes (available from 9am to 4/5pm depending on the season) and offered to keep our suitcase (whilst we were struggling to find the vocabulary to ask them ourselves). They offer a Sports and regular (with a little motor attached and basket) bike - both are ¥1,500 each. The bikes come with a phone clip for handy navigation and a lock with key for when you make stops along the way.

Great and friendly staff. The bike was fantastic however the brakes were too close to the front basket. That being said, this one is a sure win compared to other bike rental places I've been to. All in all a great experience.

I had came here planning to rent a crossbike for three days. Please Be forewarned that bicycle rentals must be returned before 5pm (same day rental), making it next to impossible to plan any sizeable trips in the area. The staff was very friendly but the rental policy is less than ideal. I was able to rent a bicycle from the Ryōkan where I stayed, so if you decide to stay somewhere and want convenient Transportation options besides a rental car, make sure to check with your host!

The beach, situated in front of Mikazuki Hotel, features free parking and a south-facing orientation with concrete walls creating a calm lagoon area safe for children to swim. Maruro is a seafood restaurant that offers a delectable sashimi set comprising of locally sourced fried white fish. The staff at Maruro take pride in providing detailed explanations about the various types of fish they serve, thus enhancing the dining experience. The generous portion size and the piping hot serving temperature add to the overall satisfaction. Additionally, their well-seasoned side dishes, such as hijiki and loosened meat served in small bowls, are particularly notable.
Excellent quality and price but very crowded on weekends. I could enter after 1 h when arriving at 11:20 on a Sunday. Only 30 customers were served that day. Everything on the menu is great, I chose the aji fry and sashimi set.

Great find! Luckily the place was open for a very early dinner @4:45pm. Welcoming and friendly couple - Google translate camera came in handy for the menu on the wall in Japanese only. The set meal is a deal! Under ¥2,000 per head for a filling mix of sashimi, rice, miso soup, pickles, and deep fried seasonal fish. Next table ordered the fried squid which looked great although we were already stuffed from the set. Help yourself to water and hot tea.

The condiments included wasabi and grated ginger, which I was grateful for and went well with the bonito sashimi. The rice was also freshly cooked and delicious. Chinese restaurant
Nestled along a quaint road near Katsuura's Yamago Fresh Fish Store, Amakaraya is a charming Chinese restaurant that beckons food lovers with its inviting atmosphere. After the pandemic, it now closes at 8 PM, making it an ideal spot for an early dinner. Upon entering, you'll find cozy table seating and a slightly elevated area to your left.
(Translated by Google) It is full of bright red chili oil, and the appearance of the ramen makes a big impact, appealing to the spiciness. However, it is not just spicy, but also has the umami of soy sauce and the natural sweetness of onion. The deep balance becomes addictive the more you drink it, and at first you feel "It's delicious! It's spicy! It's crazy!"! The noodles are medium-thick and straight, and are smooth and surprisingly well mixed with the soup. The toppings are plenty of coarsely ground meat, onions, and white scallions. The juiciness of the minced meat and the crunchy sweetness of the onions add texture and flavor. The spiciness is quite strong, so if you are a beginner or don't like spicy food, we recommend choosing "mild" or "medium spicy". This bowl captures the characteristics of Katsuura Tantanmen, and you can enjoy the refreshing spiciness and the lingering sweetness and umami aftertaste. It was the best, with the "just right spiciness" and "satisfaction" that makes you want to return.

I found this restaurant by searching for tantanmen and that's all I wanted to try. It had a lovely atmosphere that felt very local - the staff spoke to the customers and seemed to know each other which really contributed towards the positive vibes. It's my first time having tantanmen so I can't speak for the comparative flavour, but what I had tasted very good. It was a soft spicyness with some deliciously sweet leeks and onions. I was provided a towel and a jug of water. The staff spoke to me to ask about where I was staying which felt very welcoming. I would warn foreigners that I didn't see any English on the menus but I'm sure some Google translate and pointing ought to do the trick!

In addition to the Katsuura tantanmen, I ordered fried rice and gyoza. I was told that gyoza cannot be added, so you have to order the amount you want first. The tantanmen contains sweet onions and is surprisingly refreshing. The fried rice also has a mild flavor. (Translated by Google) It's a Chinese restaurant, but they also serve Katsuura Tantanmen. It seems to have quite a good reputation, so I went there for lunch. There were two counter seats, but they might not be in use. Two tables that seat four people. One table that seats six people. Two raised tables. I ordered Katsuura Tantanmen for 900 yen, and fried gyoza for 500 yen. The total was 1,400 yen. Payment can only be made by cash or PayPay. I thought it was not very spicy. The soup felt a little sweet. The ingredients were minced meat and onion. There was also what seemed to be dried shiitake mushrooms. There was also some shredded scallions on top. I wouldn't say it was bad, but it didn't have much impact, and it felt just average. I was personally disappointed that it wasn't very spicy. The gyoza were the type that were strongly seasoned. I thought there was less filling compared to the size of the skin. This can be said about other Katsuura tantanmen, but considering the quality, quantity, and taste of the ingredients, I felt it was a bit pricey. Thank you for the meal.

(Translated by Google) Katsuura Tantanmen (900 yen) has a moderate spiciness and mellow sweetness, and is delicious to eat. The sweetness you feel in the spiciness makes you feel happy. I recommend it. I thought that the amount of onions and other ingredients was a little small, but it was within the acceptable range. Bottled beer (700 yen) is available in large bottles of Kirin and Asahi. I was quite happy that it came with pickled cucumbers. I was the first customer to enter the restaurant at around 11:20 on a weekday Monday in September 2024. After 11:30, three groups of about 10 customers arrived. Overhearing the conversation with the staff, it seems that everyone, whether they are children or elderly people with small appetites, must order at least one dish. There were no exceptions, so families should be careful. After my meal, I left the restaurant and was taking photos of the exterior when the proprietress kindly spoke to me. Her warm and friendly personality made me feel warm and fuzzy inside too. I visited on a Saturday after 7:30pm. Three groups of customers sat at an open table. Everyone around me seemed to be locals. [Katsuura Tantanmen] Of course I ordered Katsuura Tantanmen. The soup is like regular dandan noodles. I don't even use shibama sauce, I just used a lot of chili oil with a soy sauce base. Although it does look reddish, When I scooped it up, the color was similar to soy sauce ramen. In fact, the spiciness is quite modest, It has a taste that even people who don't like it can enjoy. A light soy sauce-based soup, Accented with chili oil and chili pepper, Furthermore, there is a sweetness from the large amount of fried onions, The sweet and spicy finish is just like the store's name. The crunchy, candy-colored onions are addictive. Although the amount of ground meat is quite modest, Unlike the meat miso-style seasoning like regular Dandan noodles, You can enjoy the pure flavor of the meat. Japanese restaurant
Iso cuisine Bokutei is a delightful Japanese seafood restaurant that captures the essence of traditional dining. With its charming tatami tables and cozy atmosphere, it's perfect for families or anyone looking to enjoy a meal in comfort. The menu features an array of fresh sashimi and specialty dishes like the renowned "Are!"—grilled pickled tuna served with mayonnaise, all at an affordable price point. Diners rave about the generous portions, making it ideal for students or those with hearty appetites.
Great Japanese style seafood restaurant Selling Sushi and all types of other fish style dishes Lunch time is very reasonable between 1,000 and 2,000 per set meal. Views from the restaurant over Katsuura Bay are also very nice. It’s a classic family run old style Japanese eatery. Always good times .

There are many tatami tables and two tables with chairs. I ordered ``Are!'' which seems to have been a specialty of the restaurant even before the 2023 Buzzword Award winner ``Are!''. Grill pickled tuna and serve with mayonnaise. 500 yen with salad and platter! The flavor is strong, but it's delicious and filling, so it's enough to have just this and the rice. This time, I also ordered the very popular seafood bowl. It comes with a small bowl of boiled fish and hijiki, and fishball soup for 1,500 yen. This is also a very reasonable price for a tourist destination. The seasoning of the boiled fish was also delicious. I was able to use PayPay, so that was helpful. I was able to eat delicious and reasonably priced meals without the crowds compared to downtown. New Fukuya is a unique eatery that combines the elements of a ramen shop and a set meal restaurant, giving off an impression of having been in business for nearly half a century. Unlike other Katsuura Tantan noodle establishments that close for lunch at 2:00 PM, New Fukuya remains open throughout the day, potentially due to the ongoing pandemic situation. I chose this restaurant after comparing it with other restaurants because I saw some rave reviews on Google. It was delicious! I ordered Katsuura tantanmen, tofu tantanmen, gyoza, and fried rice. I thought the tofu tantanmen was better than the Katsuura tantanmen. If that were all, I would have given it 4 stars, but the fried rice was 700 yen, and I really felt that it was a waste for the quantity and quality. Personally, I was disappointed to have to pay 700 yen for just that, just to eat fried rice. Also, they don't provide paper aprons, so be careful if you're eating tantanmen. There's a Family Mart nearby with a large, easy-to-use parking lot. There's a 7-Eleven further up, but the parking lot isn't large or adequate. It’s a nice beach! It was not crowded at all. We went in mid June so the water was too cold to swim since it was a cloudy day. That said it was so nice for tidepooling and climbing on the rocks. Saw lots of cool critters! I think if it had been a hot day the water temp wouldn’t have mattered.

I was really disappointed with this beach. The water didn’t feel clean, there was a dead fish floating near where people were swimming, and the smell was awful. The public toilet was in terrible condition — overflowing trash, used sanitary products, and a muddy, dirty floor. It really ruined the experience. Not what I expected from one of Chiba’s "top" beaches!

Okitsu Beach, located in the Okitsu Prefectural Natural Park, is a family-friendly destination with calm waters and a 2km stretch of white sandy shoreline. The beach is surrounded by picturesque green hills and white cliffs, creating a scenic backdrop for visitors. It's an ideal spot for swimming due to its shallow waters. Additionally, there are public toilets available on-site. The beach is easily accessible from Kazusa-Okitsu Station, just a 4-minute walk away.
It was windy and Moriya had big waves. We moved to Okitsu and the difference was night and day. So much calmer. Recommended if you have little kids.

(Translated by Google) I go there once a year. It's like a swimming pool so it's great for families. The current is gentle so it's safe for small children. It's quiet so weekdays are the best. Parking is free and the toilets are clean. Showers are also free, but only with water. Please make sure to take your trash home with you. It's a shame that sometimes people just leave it there! My third-grade daughter was scared of the ocean but was interested. We went as a group of four, including my energetic dad, and it was just right! There are no beach shops so the beach itself isn't crowded, and there are lifeguards on hand so you can play safely. We only went up to our knees, but the area for playing on the rocks and the area for swimming were clearly separated, making it easy to play. The fact that there is water taps and parking is free is a big plus. Hiking Trails
Ubara Utopia, located in Katsuura City, is a coastal area with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Its name originates from a plan to develop it as a villa area during the Taisho period. The natural beauty of dramatic sea cliffs and cavernous coves makes it an unforgettable destination. Visitors can enjoy walking along the coastline and exploring various viewpoints near the cliffs. The area offers picturesque landscapes and energizing surroundings regardless of weather conditions, making it a fantastic place to visit.
The sea breeze smells wonderful, and you get a panoramic view of the calm Katsuura Sea, making it clear why this place is called an ideal paradise. I don't often feel the urge to revisit places, but this is definitely somewhere I want to return to.

A very curious lookout point with various paths to different end points. The start is through some tunnels and trails. The main lookout point is on rocks that has been carved by the waters, probably a long time ago. Spot the car ruin amongst the bamboo forest along the way, that looks pretty cool too.

From parking lots, you can walk to several viewpoints near the cliffs. It’s hard to go up and down with stylish footwear. The scenery is so nice that it’s worth visiting.

Specialty Museums
Nestled along the serene coastline of Minami Boso, the Coastal Branch of Natural History Museum and Institute in Chiba is a delightful stop for anyone curious about marine life. With an affordable admission fee of 200 yen, or free entry for seniors over 65, it’s an inviting spot to explore. Although the museum is compact and primarily features first-floor exhibits aimed at families with children, it offers insightful displays that delve into the ocean's structure and ecology around Katsuura.
Fun day trip to this hidden gem. Learning new things about the ocean and deep sea. The museum is not big but it is very cheap and interesting especially if you have interest in science. I enjoyed my visit, staffs are friendly, tickets & parking are cheap. With beautiful weather, we enjoyed the beautiful pacific ocean view and sound of waves.

The exhibits are not very extensive, but if you visit before summer, you will be able to enjoy swimming, clam digging, and playing on the beach from a different perspective than usual. There were handouts prepared for each exhibit that looked useful, such as dangerous creatures, so I took them all, thinking I would put them in a file later lol 200 yen worth. If you are interested in the content, please visit the website. Now, regarding the content of the evaluation, the road to getting there is narrow. It's hard to pass each other in the small tunnel. Location...I wonder if something can be done about it. And even though it is so remote, there is a fee for parking. And it's time-based. It's probably due to various reasons since it's close to the sea, but I felt a little unsatisfied. It's a bit of a shame, since the exhibit is pretty good, with easy viewing and large skeletons. (Translated by Google) Located on the calm coast of Minami Boso, this museum is a place that seems to epitomize the charm of the ocean itself. Admission is a reasonable 200 yen for adults and free for those 65 and over, making it a great place to drop in casually. The museum is small, with exhibits only on the first floor, but that doesn't stop you from feeling the deep attention to detail that went into each and every exhibit. I was particularly impressed when I saw barnacle and fish models placed even in the dark corners under the rocks, realizing that this was created by people who truly love the ocean. The staff, who call the fish "these kids," also treat them with affection, and it felt worth visiting just to be able to talk to them. The exhibits mainly consist of stuffed animals and skeletal specimens, but there are also several species of live fish on display, making it feel like a small aquarium. There are also many impressive exhibits, such as real whale bones and stuffed birds, that are well worth seeing. The museum divides Chiba's oceans into four sections: Tokyo Bay, Uchibo, Sotobo, and Choshi. Visitors can systematically learn about ocean currents and the creatures that inhabit them. Special exhibitions are also held regularly, and when I visited, I was amazed by the exhibit of tiny shells. There's also a section where visitors can observe tiny shells that are difficult to see with the naked eye under a microscope, allowing them to experience previously unknown mysteries of the ocean. During the summer vacation, children's worksheets and craft workshops are also held, making it a great place to find topics for their independent research projects. Seeing the children diligently digging into their quiz forms, I realized this is a place where learning and fun come together. This museum is adjacent to Katsuura Underwater Park, so it's recommended to visit both. Stopping by before heading to the park will deepen your knowledge of marine life and allow you to enjoy the fish from the observation deck even more. Parking is ample, and while there's a fee, it's based on an hourly rate, making it convenient to access by car. The building is surrounded by nature, and there are many ways to spend your time, such as enjoying the view from the cool interior of the building or going outside to play on the rocks. This place is not just an exhibition facility, but a space where you can experience the beauty and wonder of the ocean with all five senses. It was a little inconvenient that you could only pay with cash, but it was a place that was more than worth it. Upon visiting Matsubaya Hanten for the first time after a day at the beach, one is greeted by a store that exudes nostalgia and familiarity. Dining Saya is a charming little eatery nestled near Moriya Beach, perfect for those seeking a delightful culinary experience. This cozy spot, transformed from a private home, accommodates just a few groups, creating an intimate atmosphere. The highlight of the menu is undoubtedly the soki soba; its rich broth infused with bonito flakes offers an incredibly satisfying flavor that transports you straight to Okinawa. Complementing this dish are delightful rice balls served as a complimentary treat, adding to the overall dining experience.

The food was absolutely delicious. The rich soup was complemented by the aroma of bonito flakes, giving it a gentle yet satisfying flavor. The soki was incredibly tender! Ebine is a delightful ramen restaurant in Katsuura that offers a delicious variety of noodle dishes. The tan tan noodles are particularly enjoyable, providing a satisfying balance of flavors without overwhelming spice. Families can also choose from options like chashu shoyu base ramen and regular miso ramen, both of which receive high praise from children. The owner personally oversees operations during lunchtime, ensuring friendly service and adding to the welcoming atmosphere.

So if you sit near the entrance, the people waiting next to you can be annoying.

(Translated by Google) I went on a motorcycle tour to Chiba for the first time in a while and stopped by Ebine for lunch. There were six of us, but they were very accommodating and we were seated in 10-15 minutes. Given the heat, I recommend bringing a parasol for those waiting. The flavor was among the best I've had in Katsuura. The sweetness of the onions, the savory flavor of the green onions, and the slight spiciness all blended beautifully together. The owner's personality was evident in the homemade stereo speakers and the group of people playing with their motorcycle model kits. This is Bio Car Natakoko. There's a parking lot across the street from the restaurant. I'd love to go again.

(Translated by Google) I had Katsuura Dandan noodles for lunch on a drive to Moriya, which has the most beautiful sea in Chiba Prefecture. It seems to be frequented by local regulars. (Original) 千葉県で1番に綺麗な海の守谷までドライブの昼食で勝浦担々麺を食べました。 地元の常連のお客さんが利用しているみたいですね。
