Oshino Hakkai is a picturesque village located in Oshino Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, between Yamanaka Lake and Kawaguchi Lake. The village features eight ponds known as the "eight seas of Nunye," which are fed by melted snow water from Mount Fuji. This natural filtration process results in cool and pure spring water that has been revered for over 1,200 years.
This area seems very magical and surreal. The traditional houses are well preserved and nicely maintained. The clear water in those ponds and creek are very calming. It is a very popular tourist destination so there are many loud and annoying tourists as well.
World E — Google review
A very special indeed museum village which is an UNESCO World Heritage site. The village has 8 ponds which are considered sacred to the pilgrims who go to visit Fujisan. On a perfect day you can see the best views of Mount Fuji from the village. There is no entrance fee to visit the ponds and the village. Also a great Market is at the entrance to the village on the right side. Against a fee of 300 Yen we visited also the Hannokibayashi Folklore Museum. I personally recommend 2 hours for the visit. If you are coming by car a lot of parking spaces are near the entrance ( 200 - 300 meters by foot ). On the road from the parking spots to the main village entrance are a lot of tasty foos stalls. We ate some tasty fried baby octopuses, some Wagyu Skewers and some super tasty donuts. Jump over if you are in the region. It worth it.
Robert R — Google review
This place was beautiful and amazing to visit and experience. Even though it was a cloudy day, the spring waters were clear and beautiful. This place stays crowded, but you can escape that. Many places to try snacks and foods. The souvenir shops had a lot of good items. You can purchase fruits and many local foods. Their are walkable areas to enjoy some quietness. If you can book a group tour, it's better.
Natasha F — Google review
Oshino Hakkai is a beautiful and serene village area known for its crystal-clear spring ponds fed by Mt. Fuji’s snowmelt. The entire place feels calm and refreshing, with traditional thatched-roof houses and charming bridges adding to the scenic appeal. The ponds are incredibly clear, offering amazing reflections and views of the aquatic plants beneath. There are also small shops and snack stalls around, making it a pleasant place to walk, explore, and enjoy local flavors. A peaceful and picturesque stop that perfectly complements any Mt. Fuji or Lake Yamanaka trip.
Abhishek N — Google review
The village is enchanting and beautiful. It was crowded even at 9 am in the morning. The tranquility of the ponds and their crystal clear waters are amazing. Don't miss a visit to this enchanting village. There is also a small market with tax free that offers a variety of typical and touristic gifts.
Cynthia G — Google review
If you visit the Kawaguchiko area, make sure to stop by here too! There are several nice photo spots and small natural ponds — there are seven in total on the map. It’s not a big area, but it’s really interesting to see. One of the spots has an entrance fee of 300 yen, where you can go up for a great photo view.
Rico P — Google review
Meh... too many tourists. Bus loads! The place is too small to accommodate so many visitors. Overrated. There are many other alternatives in the area. Come only if you Xtra time or if you didnt plan your itinerary carefully and don't know where else to go. Me? I walked around for 10mins and left.
Vince C — Google review
A pleasant place to enjoy the view of Mount Fuji reflected in the small lakes in the city. You can also drink water from Mount Fuji at a fountain in the city. The area is full of small establishments selling food, drinks, and souvenirs. The place is quite crowded, but it's worth checking out. Check the weather forecast beforehand, because if it's cloudy, you won't be able to see and appreciate Mount Fuji.

Shinobi No Sato Ninja Village is a thrilling ninja-themed park located in Oshino Village, Yamanashi Prefecture. The village offers an array of interactive attractions such as the Karakuri House filled with ninja tricks, Ninjutsu Kaiden no Michi athletic experience, and a throwing star practice range. Visitors can also witness captivating ninja shows featuring authentic implements.
Great place to explore your inner ninja! Good show, good place to chill and visit and learn something about the way of the ninja. As for the food, unfortunately, there is no halal food option or a very limited seafood option. But overall experience was good and recommended for "Must Visit".
Sulaiman N — Google review
We had such an amazing lunch at Shinibi No Sato. The food was great and the atmosphere even better! The garden is beautiful with fantastic viewss of Mount Fuji. The staff and ninjas are wonderful and so entertaining. Highly recommend a visit here.
Kari G — Google review
The Ninja Village is nice especially for kids and the staff was brilliant (I saw some families with children and they were having a blast). We were here for lunch as part of an excursion and the food was good, with vegetables available (so, healthy choices possible!). I only think there should be more food for these excursions as there simply wasn’t enough for everyone. Beautiful scenery and views of Mount Fuji!
André M — Google review
Fun outing with the kids. When i came here pre Covid, there’s seafood set lunch. Now these’s none, so as muslim we have very very limited choice of food here (not recommended). There’s also an entrance fee of JPY1,800 per adult to enter this place (i deducted a star due to this). The place is clean and beautiful, with a garden overlooking mt fuji. Love that the place is not crowded even during golden week. All the ninjas (staff) were friendly and accomodative when you ask for pictures/ they even volunteer to take your picture.
Ina M — Google review
Such a tourist trap. We stopped here for lunch during a Mount Fuji day trip. The buffet service was poor, with limited options and quantities. By the time I reached the buffet table, even the rice was almost gone. Despite there being two buffet tables, each group was only allowed to use one, which was badly organised. I wouldn’t recommend this place. Also, the toilets didn’t even have soap to wash your hands. The restaurant view was beautiful though.
Letícia V — Google review
Absolutely lovely place. Amazing food and atmosphere, even got to see a ninja. Make sure to walk the garden as well
Kay I — Google review
Ate as part of a bus tour. It was buffet style. The food was mediocre and mostly cold (room temp). The "ninja village" aspect was pretty mediocre too. It looked like there was supposed to be some sort of activities or something in the garden area, but all looked disused and we're empty when we visited.
Brian M — Google review
We came here as part of our mt. Fuji trip. Had an amazing lunch experience here. Food was really great. Having lunch with a view of the Mt. Fuji, luckily it was a clear day and the mount was perfectly visible. The garden was so nice, but we could not see the ninjas as expected, not do any activities as there was some work maintenance going on. But still, it was so nice to stroll around the place.

Yamanakako Onsen Benifuji no Yu hot spring

Day-use onsen
Day spa
Super public bath
Yamanakako Onsen Benifuji no Yu hot spring is a picturesque open-air facility offering stunning views of Mt. Fuji. The building features two outdoor roof-covered baths nestled in natural surroundings, providing a serene and relaxing experience for bathers. With an affordable admission price and various amenities such as multiple indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, and a restaurant serving delicious food at reasonable prices, this hot spring is an ideal destination for a day trip from Tokyo.
One of the best onsen at the Mt Fuji area. For men’s bath, there are 3 pools indoor and 2 outdoor (can’t take photos). The indoor pools have a jacuzzi and a cold spring water, plus 2 sauna rooms. Wow. The outdoor pools have views of Mt Fuji (too bad, can’t see due to clouds). There are cafes to eat after the onsen and areas for massage chairs. It is a nice relaxation experience one need to do after a 11 hrs hike to Mt Fuji Summit.
Amos K — Google review
INCREDIBLY Tattoos UNFRIENDLY. Not mentioned once on the website. Even covers won’t do. More Cameras in the lockers than in a bank. Baths are good but not sensational. Staff was unfriendly, it feels they are entitled for their success quite a lot to make you feel like a nobody. And that’s was also towards Natives.
Fred S — Google review
Unfortunately, we couldn't see Mt. Fuji this day, it was raining. So we spent the whole day at the hot spring, and it was really good. The food was good in taste and price, the bath facilities were really good and the rest of the space was comfortable.
Marisa C — Google review
We had an amazing experience at the Onsen. The views of Mt. Fuji from the outdoor baths is unbeatable. The stone bath was really hot! It was the perfect way to warm up.
Morgan A — Google review
Really nice onsen. Clean facilities and great view of Fuji from the indoor bath. Need to bring or hire a towel. Make sure you hire a towel before you get naked!
Alex M — Google review
I wish I'd try and I trust the high alcaline (>10) bath water, sauna & steam room were great but... public baths only and no swimsuit allowed (in addition to a few more prohibitions): so you must be comfortable to go publickly naked. Open at 11am.
Giovanni N — Google review
This public hot spring near Lake Yamanaka has excellent facilities that are clean and well-maintained, with various types of baths and an on-site restaurant. However, the biggest downside is that everything costs extra money beyond the entrance fee - you have to pay for towels, pay to open lockers (though they refund the locker fee), and constantly make additional payments throughout your visit. This gets really annoying when you just want to relax. The facilities themselves are good with diverse options, and it tends to get crowded. Parking is quite limited, making it difficult to find a spot. They sell Yuru Camp merchandise, apparently because the place was featured in the anime. Be very careful in the outdoor baths - the floors are slippery from the mineral water, and there are protruding stones on the bottom that can painfully cut your toes if you’re not watching where you step. Despite the irritating fee structure, the hot spring quality itself makes it worthwhile if you don’t mind the extra costs.
Minwoo K — Google review
Bring your own small towel is fine. No need to rent a big towel because you’ll dry off very quick in locker room

In winter, the entire area is covered in snow and snow flakes stick to branches, making them look like flowers. The ideal time to visit is typically late April to mid-May.

Overall a good camping with some indoor places for kids to play on case of rain for example. The camping spots are okay. The one we got was wide but only made of stones which is not ideal to lay a tent comfortably, and not good to put tent pegs in. Very clean bathrooms and showers.
Colin M — Google review
Almost didn’t pay the entrance ticket to go in but we were glad we did. We didn’t spend long there. We went off season but the flowers were still blooming and capture many nice shots. It wasn’t crowded when we were there so we could sit down and chill.

Summer time is too hot to visit, but there are ice cream and drinks available to purchase. Rent a peddle car is a nice way to see the park. The view of Mount Fuji from the park is beautiful.

Day 2

For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Fuji-Q Highland, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Kosaku. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Water & Amusement Parks
Theme Parks
Fuji-Q Highland is an amusement park located near the base of Mount Fuji in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi. It's a popular destination for thrill-seekers with its impressive collection of rides, including Takabisha, the world's steepest roller coaster, and other famous coasters like Eejanaika, Do-Dodonpa, and Fujiyama. The park also offers two haunted attractions - Hopeless Fortress and the Haunted Hospital.
Must-visit place for Naruto and rollercoaster fans. It was my first time in the rollercoaster and it was terrifying, but still fun 🤣 Naruto fans will have more than enough content to have fun with. Food is good, but a bit expensive considering the amount of it (still normal as it's amusement park) There are FREE tickets for just walking in, one-enter tickets and one-day tickets. The paid ones allow you to enter all attractions for free, but you still have to wait in the queues if you don't have priority pass for specific attraction.
Sebastian T — Google review
This is my 2nd visit to Fuji-Q Highland, and I was worried about how the day would pan out as my last visit was atrocious! However, let me say that today was a very pleasant surprise! I paid for the priority entrance, which gets you into the park 30 minutes early (which is massively worth it). Head for the big coasters first - Zokkon and Fujiyama, as they get the biggest queues! They have a lot of great attractions, but make sure you read the opening times of all attractions as some things do close at 1.30pm and some open later in the day. They do have a detailed maintenance schedule on their website, but the opening and closing times did catch me out on my last visit. Also, attractions will close early depending on the queue times (for which they make announcements around the park), so make sure to plan everything you want to ride in time. There are vending machines next to each ride to buy fast passes, which is handy at busy times! The food stalls in the middle of the park are great, I had the Indian food which was lush. They are well-priced, too. There are lots of vending machines all around the park. There are at least 5/6 gift shops with lots of cool merchandise. There is also a 7-Eleven outside the park! Great for fussy eaters or cheap snacks! When visiting, make sure to plan ahead and get there early for a head start as when it's busy, it can be very unorganised and stressful.
Charlotte B — Google review
We went on a Monday in late October, and it wasn’t too packed. At most we waited an hour for one of the big roller coasters. If you are looking for a park with some of the best roller coasters ever then this is it! We loved Takabisha so much, it was scary and exhilarating all at the same time! Eejanaika is going to mess with your mind, all its twists and turns. But there are other great rides too, a special mention needs to be made for Tondemina (La pizza) ride that was fantastic. This park is filled with thrills. We had the Fuji pizza which was great. As a tip, the all day pass lets you re-enter, we went back to our hotel then returned at night, well worth it. I’ve read reviews that say the safety checks take a while and they do but honestly I was glad for it. Was it worth the money? Absolutely! I’d love to go again on a clear day when I can see Mt. Fuji.
Kyle W — Google review
Amazing rides - better than any other amusement park i've been to. They lack the intricate themes other amusement parks have (e.g., Disneyland) - more bare bones adrenaline rush. And they are very good at this - rides are so fast and frenzied that it's actually important to listen to the instructions and maintain the posture they tell you to have. They require emtying all pockets before boarding rides, and also remove glasses (they didn't even allow using goggles). They have free lockers at each ride. There are some vegan options in the food court (vegan ramen and curry). Amusement park food, not bad but not good either. there is also a Starbucks with some vegan snacks and vegan lattes. When we were there the lines were very short, so we would probably could have done without the priority tickets we bought. But I read and heard that in most times the lines are very long, and priority passes are recommended. We bought everything in the fuji Q website - if the site crashes, try turning off the google translation - it worked for us.
עמוס ר — Google review
We got there right as they opened and there were little to no lines which was great. We were able to get through a few rides in just over an hour which is awesome! As the day progressed, the lines did start to get longer, but we definitely got our money's worth with the day pass. I think the longest we waited for a ride was about an hour. Also, the views of Fujisan were breathtaking! Especially from the top of the highest roller-coasters. Definitely will visit again next time we are in Japan!
Bradford S — Google review
We went on a Autumn Thursday so there weren't that much lines! We were able ride all the rides that were open that day. They closed some down pretty early like the pizzala and the paniclock. I think Dodonpa closed down. However, the must-try rides for speed and thrill that are usually open are Fujiyama, Takabisha (the vertical drop was amazing), Eejanaika(fast and fun), and Zokkon. The Naruto village was a great place for me since Im a Naruto fan!
Ian F — Google review
I personally rank Fuji-Q among the top theme parks of the world for the following reasons: high density of absolutely innovative roller coasters and thrilling rides; sections of the park with authentic Japanese anime IPs; unmatched location with views of Mount Fuji; and plenty of activities for non-thrill seeking visitors as well. Sadly the day I visited ended up with rainy weather since afternoon and I couldn't finish the non-rollercoaster rides... Will plan another trip there again to finish what I've missed.
Naisheng X — Google review
We visited on a weekday and it was not too crowded actually. Most visitors are local Japanese. The park has English translations at every ride and facility. It was not difficult to navigate in the park as foreigners. We were thrilled at some of the rides and totally appreciated the effort being put in designing such rides. The longest wait we did was around 80 minutes but it could be longer on weekends. Purchase fast passes if needed. You will need to register for facial recognition right before entering as every ride will require that facial scanning for you to enter. Clean park. Excellent food options. Restaurants and food stalls charged reasonably and food actually tasted good.

Arakurayama Sengen Park is a picturesque park known for its stunning views of Mount Fuji, a vibrant five-storied pagoda, and seasonal cherry blossoms. The park's iconic landscape has been featured in various media and is a popular spot for capturing the beauty of Japan. With its majestic shrine and breathtaking scenery, it's no wonder that this park is considered one of the best places to view Mount Fuji in the Fuji Five Lakes area.
Gorgeous scenery when you make it all the way up to the outlook area. The walk can be tough, definitely prepare for the weather because you will get extremely hot climbing the 400+ steps up the mountain. Japan humidity is insane. Felt so lucky to see Mount Fuji so clearly on this day.
Shiona D — Google review
This was my second time visiting this place. This time, I went by bus with a Japanese co-worker who kindly arranged the transportation for us, allowing us to experience the scenic ride to the area. The location is quite elevated, so I recommend visitors be prepared for some uphill walking. Doing regular physical activities like jogging, walking, or running beforehand can definitely help you handle the climb to the observation deck more comfortably. We visited in June, and the number of tourists was noticeably lower compared to the peak months of March and April, making for a more relaxed experience. There are public toilets and a drinking fountain (faucet-style) available in the area. You might notice warning signs about bears and monkeys, though we didn’t encounter any during our visit. There’s also a small restaurant nearby that serves ramen, karaage (fried chicken), and sells souvenirs. A good spot to rest and enjoy a meal after the climb.
Leo V — Google review
Going up was like hell. I’m not that fit, and those stairs really destroyed me. I had to catch my breath with every step I took. But once I got to the top, the view was absolutely mesmerizing. There was a big cloud covering Mount Fuji at first, so I waited and waited until the sky finally cleared. I’m glad I did, because after putting in all that effort, I didn’t want to just stare at clouds, lol. In the end, I’m really happy I made it up there and got to enjoy such a beautiful view.

I took the most iconic photo of Mt. Fuji in Arakurayama Sengen Park, and a real sense of accomplishment hit me after my eight day trip to Sapporo, Osaka, Nara, and Kobe. Seeing Mt. Fuji in real life felt like the icing on the cake of my Japan trip. Surprisingly, it is not only the view of the pagoda that is amazing. The park itself is stunning, with beautiful autumn leaves. In my opinion, it rivals the autumn colors in Hokkaido. The park can get busy, so it is best to arrive before the tour groups, preferably before 8:00 am. The photo area near the pavilion can be crowded, so do not expect to have it to yourself. From Kawaguchiko Station, take the local train to Shimoyoshida Station, then walk for about ten minutes. The pavilion is accessible after climbing roughly 400 steps. Highly recommended.

Amazing view specially if Mt. Fuji shows during your visit. Always crowded so having a good photo without photo Bomber is hard to get. Note: No Entrance Fee but long hard walk. Not suitable for little ones. You need to climb the 398 stone steps to reach the top of the shrine for better view. Drink lots of water . Perfect time to visit: spring and winter

Iconic view of Mount Fuji and Chureito Pagoda! Arakurayama Sengen Park is breathtaking, especially during cherry blossom season. The iconic view of the red Chureito Pagoda with Mount Fuji in the background is unforgettable and perfect for photography. The park is well-maintained, peaceful, and offers a lovely walk up the stairs with scenic spots along the way. A must-visit for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone wanting the classic Mount Fuji experience!

Early morning visit yo snap some photos of Fuji-San along with the ever popular Instagram snap of having Chureito Pagoda in the foreground and Miunt Fuji at the back. Weather was good this morning. Happy with my snaps. 😊 Note… It’s quite a walk up to the observation deck.

The place itself is of unparalleled beauty. I visited during Autumn and the colours of the Maple Corridor were surreal. The market is like any average tourist trap worldwide. Bad food, sketchy souvenirs, absurd prices. Highly recommended as a stop, once in a lifetime experience

Nestled to the north of Lake Yamanakako, Nagaike Water Park is a hidden gem for those seeking breathtaking views of Mount Fuji. This picturesque spot offers free parking and is an ideal location for photographers and nature lovers alike. With its serene atmosphere, visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls along the lake's edge while capturing stunning shots of the iconic mountain, especially during sunset when the Diamond Fuji phenomenon graces the horizon.
An absolutely breathtaking view! Walk along the lake and enjoy the weather and the beautiful view of Mount Fuji. We went in January, it was a bit cold, we had to bundle up but the fresh air was worth it.

The best view for mt Fuji around the lake. Free carpark next to the park. Don’t miss the paths to lakeside and try your luck capturing Sakasa Fuji (Fuji mirrored by the lake surface).

We spent our early Saturday at Nagaike Water Park and had an absolute blast! It’s the perfect spot for a fun day out with the family. The splash areas were clean, well-maintained, and just the right size for kids to enjoy safely. There was plenty of shade and grassy areas to set up a picnic, and the whole place had a relaxed, family-friendly vibe. The water was refreshing, and the park layout made it easy to keep an eye on the little ones while still enjoying the scenery. We’ll definitely be back this spot is a gem for warm-weather weekends!

If is superb location for sunset and flower too. It is located just slightly pass Nagaike-iriguchi. The venue was awesome too compare to the usual park that everyone else goes. Slight feedback for those traveling by bus, Kindly travel back before 5pm because when the sun goes down transportation is not as easy at night unless you are fit to travel by foot

Nagaike Water Park near Lake Yamanaka was one of the best Fuji spots of our trip. Calm place, free parking and a crazy clear view of Mount Fuji right in front of you, with the reflection on the lake when the weather is good. We went early in the morning and it was super quiet, just a few people walking, taking photos and enjoying the fresh air. If you’re around Yamanakako, this is the perfect stop to breathe, shoot some photos and just sit down facing Fuji for a while.

A great spot to take photos or videos of Mount Fuji. There are small benches with roof so you can rest and enjoy the breathtaking view. I stumbled upon the area while cycling around Yamanaka lake.

Kosaku is a popular restaurant located in Lake Yamanaka, known for its delicious and filling dishes. The menu features specialties like pumpkin hota and jumbo prawn tempura don, served with flavorful miso soup. The restaurant offers traditional and table seating, making it suitable for various preferences. Visitors can expect a short wait during peak times due to its popularity. Additionally, the establishment provides ample parking space and follows safety measures such as providing hand sanitizer and ensuring social distancing.
I have to admit, it’s a very local taste and appreciation… the horse meat sashimi was really tasty… the soup in the pot had a unique taste but overall decent to Savour… The seats were the one that I was very uncomfortable with because my leg cramped 4 times throughout the meal… Will definitely come back again… 👍🏻👍🏻

Buta niku hoto 豚肉ほうとうwas good. Serving is big, with plenty of carbs in it, pumpkin, potato, yam… lunch was a lot more crowded but dinner was more manageable. Managed to get a seat without much waiting. Worth your time if you’re in the area 👍

Delicious traditional thick noodle houtou. The soup is very flavourful and comes with a lot of ingredients. We went for the pork version as well as the chicken, seafood and veggie option. Both were very delicious. Additionally we also ordered the mixed tempura. Wait time is around an hour to get a table. We went on a Saturday at 5.45pm. By around 7.15pm the chef put a sign at the front and the registration counter to indicate that they were not accepting any more customers presumably as they utilised their food inventory allocation for the day so come early to ensure that you are able to dine here.

They take names and pax writing to queue at entrance . Queue was super fast I waited 15mins before I get in. The restaurant is like a big canteen hall inside . Staffs are mostly elderly Japanese so they do not speak English . Service is slightly slow , I tried to raise my hand to get alert to put order but it seems not a proper way to do in Japan . 🥴 Food is ok . We were starving as this is our first meal in Mount Fuji area . I ordered the mix tempura which is 1 fish & 1 prawn . U can see how HUGE is the fish and prawn. They offer free parking behind and infront of the restaurant . When queueing outside there’s some bench and u can directly see mt. Fuji in front of u . U can take a walk at the black sand area behind the restaurant after u eat

We went for dinner before 7pm and it wasn’t crowded. They have english menu but cant staff cant speak english well. Weather was cold at -3 so hot noodle soup and Porridge really warm our bodies. Fried Chicken was Crispy, chunky and delicious. Overall Food was tasty. Highly Recommended if you are in Yamanakako to try out local delicacy Hoto - Noodle Soup!

The al fresco dining experience at Lakeside Cabin, an Italian restaurant situated by Lake Yamanaka, was fantastic. Patrons enjoyed their meals surrounded by nature and the establishment offered ample outdoor seating. Families with small pets and young children also felt welcome in this family-friendly environment. The service provided was satisfactory, ensuring a pleasant dining experience for all guests. The beef curry dish received positive feedback for its taste and quality. However, the Margarita pizza failed to meet expectations in terms of flavor.
It’s a wonderful dinner. We had pork steak and 4-cheese pizza, and those were heavenly delicious. Highly recommend dine here if you’re looking for a quality western food in a reasonable price.

I ordered a tea and pasta, and they forgot to make my pasta. I rang the automatic bell 3 times and no one answered. (I think they are broken) I had to go into the restaurant to talk to a server. The patio is dog friendly with a decent view but that is the only good thing about this place. Poor service
Jin K — Google review
The outdoor seating was great. I was with my family (including a small dog and one-year old). Service was decent. I had the beef curry, which was good. My wife had the Margarita pizza, which wasn’t that good.
Brandon N — Google review
We had a pasta that was just bad and a margherita pizza that was average. The stuff doesn’t speak English almost at all. Took us 10 minutes for a simple order. For lunch they have only 8 dishes that’s it! Don’t forget to get the Japanese written bill with you on your way out to pay, otherwise you will have to go back to your table to bring it. You can off course try to argue but it would be pointless cause they just try to communicate with you in Japanese.
Leonidas K — Google review
Nice place overlooking the lake. Great food. Moderate prices. Menu for weekend and weekdays is different, but such information is not posted on website. We went there on a Monday evening based on the information on their website only to find out we only had a choice of 6 dishes for dinner. A very big disappointment for us leading to our rating.

Waited 30 minutes to be seated when there were 4 free tables on the terrace and 1 inside. One couple before me then me and neither were seated for that half hour. So I left. Appalling service, how slow and inefficient!! Updated: just cycled to the other Italian restaurant 200 meters away. Was seated in 2 minutes.

Very friendly owner, guided us to our next destination with their own map. Personally I love their udon with horse meat so much! Would have try our their tempura but is sold out that day.

Found this little gem on the way cycling to Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine. Cozy little restaurant but the udon is amazing! The black sauce condiment is nice, suggest to try putting it into your udon halfway through eating to enhance the flavor. Price I think it's very reasonable. Highly recommend.

Thick chewy wholesome upon with perfectly poached egg and grass-fed slices of succulent beef. Absolute heaven. Today, on mountain day (they are open folks!), the husband and wife team served a full house. But they did so with such attention and care, that we felt so homey. Must add their secret blend of spices that you find on each table. One regular serving is more than enough for guys. Ladies will be definitely full!
W. L — Google review
Probably the best udon noodle I've had in Japan. They are not too thick and the perfect chewiness. The broth is super light, but flaverful. I recommand having the meat and vegetables tempura. The poach egg is also super good (it make the broth creamier and rich). I had the large portion (+100y) and it was HUGE. Maybe the normal portion is enough. Very cheap for the delicious food your having.

I had no idea that Italian cuisine could be so delicious! The owner of パルコ・デル・チエロ, Morita-san, was incredibly friendly. Luckily, my wife is able to converse in Japanese as her family lived in Shizuoka-ken before moving to the U.S., allowing us to have a meaningful conversation. We indulged in their Omakase dinner and were even given our own private room. The restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere with a stunning garden.
Never knew Italian cuisine could be so good/oishi! And the owner Morita-san was so friendly. Fortunately my wife speaks passable Nihongo since her family lived in Shizuoka-ken before moving to the U.S. so they were able to carry a conversation. We had their Omakase dinner. Even had our own room!

(Translated by Google) I visited on a Sunday lunchtime in April. I was shown a seat on the terrace, and the weather was nice and the atmosphere was very nice. The most reasonable lunch menu was a salad and pasta or salad and pizza set for 2,500 yen. Drinks can be added for an additional 500 yen. All the dishes were delicious. In particular, the pescatore was a luxurious pasta that contained a lot of seafood. I think it must be a good shop as there seem to be a lot of regular customers. However, I feel that the pricing is bullish, perhaps due to regional characteristics. I don't think it's bad, but considering the price, I think I'll choose another store next time I'm in this area.

Proximity is everything
For day 3, we bundled attractions like Yamanakako Hirano Onsen ISHIWARI-NO-YU and Hirano beach and other places within a close range, so that the time it takes to travel between all of them is less than one hour. Combined with the average time people spend there, your day should take about 7 hours.

Super public bath
Nestled near the serene Lake Yamanaka and the majestic Mt. Ishiwari, Yamanakako Hirano Onsen ISHIWARI-NO-YU is a charming traditional onsen that beautifully blends wood and stone architecture. This inviting hot spring facility boasts an outdoor tub crafted from hinoki cypress, offering visitors a unique bathing experience surrounded by nature. The onsen's water is known for its exceptional quality, featuring a high alkalinity with a pH of 10.
Get 10% off after you add them as friend in Line. They provide free shampoo and soap but you will need to bring your own towel. The hot spring is not big for both indoor and outdoor. Note their operating hour to avoid dissapointment.

Cheap if you have your own towels. 3 Small baths, very crowded, outside bath wasn't that warm in my visit. 100 yen lockers are refunded. Restaurant was more like a cafeteria and didn't look appetizing. Plenty of parking. Lots of tourists.
SAinJP — Google review
Not a great experience. Came with my partner in the evening. Not busy there. I purchased an Onsen ticket. My partner wasn't allowed because of tattoos which was expected and okay for us. It was getting dark and cold outside and we asked if he can sit inside to wait for me. Lady showed us a sum on her calculator saying 750 yen. We were quite confused and she stated that he has to pay a fee for being in the building. I asked to show me the sign saying so. There was a sign in Japanese in the entrance, however it didn't state any fee to pay. 750 yen to just SIT inside the building while waiting for me seemed like a joke as the bathing fee is 900 yen. Seemed like some kind of harassment to get my partner out of the building. We asked if he can eat in the restaurant at least but not even that was allowed only with an additional 750 yen. Never experienced something like this in Japan. Onsen itself only ok. Low quality shower products, lack of cleanliness (hair everywhere) and hair dryer only with extra payment. And after the visit I felt like getting a bladder infection, so not sure about the hygiene level of the water.
F. F — Google review
A traditional onsen that seems to be oftened by locals in the area. They have big baths and changing rooms, but not quite spacious enough to accommodate so many people. The saune could only have 3 people inside. Their outdoor baths were very nice and quite hot. Food were fairly priced and tasted fine. There are a lot of stuff being sold in the facility and the lounge space was definitely relaxing, though the space is limited. It’s not a big facility, just worth its price. 😊
Ann S — Google review
Nice onsen near Yamanakako. Several types of baths, both indoor and outdoor. The building also hosts a small market with local vegetables, a small restaurant (ramen, etc.) and several tatami rooms just to relax between the baths. The place is clean and well organized, with a nice garden in the middle. You can rent a towel on site, no need to bring anything.
Stéfan - — Google review
Nice Onsen up the mountain. It has a busstop with not so frequent busses. Two outside baths which were nice and quiet.
Bartu N — Google review
Visited the onsen a couple of days ago and really enjoyed it! 1.) It is separated in gender, so if you visit as a couple set a time, when you meet again, there is a clock inside. 2.) We had backpacks which were no problem, there are lockers inside. 3.) We don't speak Japanese but were welcomed warmly and everyone was really friendly and helpful!! 4.) There are 5 "pools" and I recommend watching some videos "how to Onsen", copy the people around you and just relax. Thank you for the friendlyness

Hirano Beach is a popular spot adjacent to Communication Plaza Kirara, known for its easy accessibility by car. It offers stunning views of Mount Fuji and the Yamanaka Lake, making it a great place for photography. The beach is relatively less crowded compared to other tourist spots, providing a peaceful and relaxing environment. Visitors can also enjoy observing swans and geese in the clean waters of the lake. However, it's important to be mindful of keeping the area clean and respecting the wildlife.

I’ve been here for photographing and chill many times, either good or bad weather, sunrise or sunset, crowded or not crowded, snowy or clear, you can check some of the media I posted here to check the real look and photography you’ll expect to get. The basics knowledge is: you need a great weather that’s at least clear, and not that windy, for the best experience. If you can’t see My. Fuji that day, you can try to come back again around sunset time to try your luck, or just skip this place. Phone, camera with wide lens can do the best job for photography. Lower your body to get the best reflection if possible:) It won’t be too crowded at all even it’s the popular season (as for now)

Hirano Beach is a beautiful and peaceful spot, perfect for a relaxing day by the water. The scenery is stunning, with clear views of the lake and surrounding hills, and on clear days, you can even see Mount Fuji. Swans often glide across the water, adding to the calm atmosphere. It’s clean, not too crowded, and has a relaxed, local feel. A lovely hidden gem for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy nature.

"Hirano Beach – A Tranquil Morning with Mount Fuji's Reflection" Hirano Beach, located on the northeastern shore of Lake Yamanaka, offers a serene setting to capture the majestic Mount Fuji mirrored on the lake's surface. This picturesque scene is best viewed in the early morning when the water is calm and the skies are clear. The beach's popularity as a prime photography spot means it can become quite crowded, especially during peak seasons. Visitors often arrive early to secure the best vantage points, so it's advisable to plan accordingly. Despite the crowds, the breathtaking view of Mount Fuji's reflection makes Hirano Beach a must-visit for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

Great views of Mt Fuji with beautiful swans. You can buy some feed for the swans and you can take the swan-inspired boats out. P.S. travelled there during Golden week so it might have been more packed than but you can find opportunity to take photos in spite of the crowd.

Hirano Beach at Lake Yamanakako is a quiet, scenic spot ideal for relaxing by the water with unobstructed views of Mount Fuji. It’s one of the best places around the lake to take a peaceful stroll, have a picnic, or simply sit and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The beach is not crowded, making it perfect for those looking to escape the busier tourist spots. The air is fresh, the lake is calm, and on clear days, Mount Fuji creates a stunning backdrop for photos or quiet reflection. There are a few cafes and rental shops nearby for paddle boats and bikes, adding to the laid-back atmosphere. Whether you’re stopping by during a drive around the Fuji Five Lakes or staying in the area, Hirano Beach offers a serene and memorable experience close to nature.

Another gem and a good spot to take photos of Mount Fuji. Less crowd since it is quite far from the usual tourist attraction. I came here for the sunset and there were professional photographers at this spot. It is a park so they were playgrounds and public restrooms and vending machines. There are also ample amount of paid parking space that cost around 300yen and has to be paid by cash. There are boardwalk around the lake where you can stroll around take photos of Mount Fuji.

While some Tiktokers gatekeep this location, we are here to share this awesome stopover. We came here by car, and it was an open space with playground for kids, toilets, open park, and walking paths for leisure. Be sure to walk along the wooden walkways for best views of Mt Fuji.

Last two years I came to Yamanashi I stayed around Kawaguchiko lake but this time (mid of October 2024) I decided to stay close to Yamanakako lake because I found several nice places and nice reviews about those places where this communication plaza was one of them. Yamanakako is more peaceful compared to Kawaguchiko. The communication plaza is huge. Many people came here to run in the morning. Me and my family just went there for the view. We took lots of photos cause every places are beautiful. It’s a little sad we could not enjoy Fujisan view cause he’s hiding under the big clouds that day.

This place was a hidden jem. We came in the afternoon and it was nice and quiet for a walk. We had full view of Fuji and could just relax and enjoy the moment

Sweet love shower 2023 Beautiful space near Yamanakako Lake with mount Fuji view Access by bus and car 🚘 ———— I wanted to share my excitement about the upcoming summer music festival. The thought of dancing under the open sky to our favorite tunes is truly exhilarating. I can't wait to create unforgettable memories, surrounded by the vibrant energy of the crowd and the enchanting melodies that will fill the air. See you next time

A perfect view of Mt Fuji !! It was a beautiful day indeed. We could see Fuji san and enjoy the view. It wasn't too crowded. There is a small park for kids too. Highly recommended!!

Huge park lands area for all to enjoy. Kids playground, concert area, decked walking path with views of Fuji and toilet facilities. Also has a car park. Looked like in warmer months there is a fee for parking but it was free when we were here. Fuji is in full view here. We came for that and wasn't disappointed at all. Gets cold though with the breeze!

Papermoon is a charming rustic-chic cafe and home goods shop adorned with dried flowers, offering an array of delectable cakes and pies. It's a popular spot in the neighborhood, often bustling with eager customers even before opening time. The parking lot fills up quickly, indicating its widespread appeal. The menu features various mouthwatering options such as lemon custard, pumpkin pudding, sour cherry, and banana chocolate pies.
Has the best chocolate cake and macadamia custard tart ever! The cake was so decadent and served with fresh cream! Everything perfectly balanced. The liqueur frosting was strong though but I loved that.. The vibes were immaculate. This is a gorgeous place for some fresh pastries!

Came on a cold Saturday around 12. There was a wait of almost an hour with more than 10 groups ahead of us. I searched for cafes around Yamanakako but I wasn't planning to come here. However, we came because the bike rental owner? At sansui recommended the apple pies here. As he said it was so popular and he was right. When it was our turn to order, it was sold out. I hope they can make more of the apple pie especially on busy days because it is popular. Had the apricot cheese cake and the pear almond pie instead, which are not bad at all. The coffee was great though I wasn't expecting the latte to be served in a "bowl" not a cup. Their blend coffee is unexpectedly good. On cold days like today, i recommend to sit indoors because only 2 tables outside have heaters. They also have a small boutique with random items to check out while waiting. Lots of car parking space. And bikes can be parked near the entrance. Kids under the age of 10 are not allowed in the store :)

This is a quiet and cozy cafe located a bit far away from busy tourist areas along Lake Yamanaka. The cheese cake is delicious, but it's a pity that the apple pie was sold out when we arrived.

Atmospheric cafe with delicious deserts. They have nice outdoor terrace with Lake Yamanaka view. The parking is free of charge with plenty of space. They don’t allow kids under 10 which is great and ensures visitors can spend their time in relaxed and quiet settings.
Paul — Google review
They allow dogs that bark loudly on the terrace, but children under 10 years old aren’t welcomed in the shop. I suppose that’s the privilege of being a well-known spot in a popular holiday resort area — you can afford to be exclusive, and people will still come in droves. I was recommended this place on social media as a must-visit for cakes at Yamanakako. The cake itself was fairly average, but the waitress who served us came across as rather passive-aggressive. Instead of making us feel welcomed, it felt more like she was showing us how not to enjoy our time there. The unspoken message seemed to be: have your cake, pay up, and get out as quickly as possible so the next group of customers can come in and hand over their money. Very disappointing. If anyone asks me for recommendations in the future, I’ll have to tell them not to visit here at all, given the concept of this store. That said, I genuinely wish the shop the best with its current business strategy.

Sunday: I walked over with my 5 year old and saw the No Kids under 10 sign. I sent her back to our cottage and waited in line to ask for takeaway pie. “No takeaway today, so sorry.” Monday: Husband and I decide to alternate taking turns getting pie alone and minding children. I wait in line and ask if they have takeaway today. Not today. I ask what day they would have takeaway. Some internal discussion and the answer, “Tomorrow will have takeaway.” Husband suggests I order 4 slices of pie and claim I can’t finish and ask for a box. I order 1 slice to eat there and propose to bring back some of its packable. Pie is not packable, all drowned in melted ice cream. Tuesday: Our last day in the area, I invent an excuse to keep us in the area until Papermoon opens at 11am. I wait in line and confirm takeaway is possible today. My turn comes, I am asked for my order. Apple pie? “No Apple pie takeaway.” They do give me 4 slices of the dark cherry pie though. My kids enjoyed them! But if I’d known, I would have tried the Apple pie when I came by myself on Monday. Pie was very delicious though!! Glad I got to have 2 slices.

Cute little cafe, I enjoy the no children under 10 policy to keep the atmosphere quiet & calm, it is a vibe. Tea was amazing, bought some to take home with me!

Truly one of the most beautifully rustic and peaceful cafe experiences in Japan! Overlooking Lake Yamanakako, this cake shop has been operating since 1985, and offers such a wide range of homemake cakes that are to die for! Try the dark cherry pie, lemon custard tart and the boozy chocolate cake! The menu is also seasonal, so winter season comes with its own unique flavours! It opens at 11am, but the queue starts way before that. Be sure to be there early if you don’t want to wait.

Bodies of Water
Lake Yamanaka, the largest of the five lakes located east of Mount Fuji, offers a picturesque setting for lakeside walks, bike rides, and various water activities. With its rich natural surroundings, it attracts tourists throughout the year to witness cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, vibrant autumn foliage, and snowy landscapes in winter. The area features numerous facilities including accommodations like inns and hotels, souvenir shops, camping grounds, a flower park, and excursion cruises.
This is a bit out of the way from other four lakes and quite a challenge bicycle ride from Gawaguchiko station, but it’s quite worth it. The bike path along the lake side is well maintained and less car traffic. There are many restaurants and cafes to take a break. Swans are very beautiful and they can be easily spotted.
World E — Google review
Lake Yamanaka is a calm and scenic spot that’s perfect for a relaxing visit. The area is peaceful, with well-kept walking and cycling paths around the lake, and it offers a variety of outdoor activities like boating, fishing, and picnicking. If you’re lucky and the weather is clear, the view of Mount Fuji from the lake is absolutely breathtaking. But keep in mind—it’s often cloudy, and Fuji can be completely hidden. Early mornings tend to give you the best chance of a clear view. Even without seeing Fuji, the lake and surrounding nature are beautiful and worth the visit. A great place to unwind and enjoy a quieter side of the Fuji Five Lakes.

The first time I came here was for the fireworks on August 1st, 2025. I arrived around 2 PM and it was already crowded, haha. I ended up just wandering around the whole time. Mt. Fuji was covered by clouds, but it still looked beautiful🤍

It was fun feeding the birds and taking a ride around the lake. We didn’t get to see Mt. Fuji though because of the weather.

Fuji Safari Park is very fun and interesting. You drive past the animals and get to see them up close. The large area is incredible, and you also have a view of Mount Fuji.

This is one of the deepest lakes that are surrounding mount fuji. We took the boat ride to the middle of the lake to view mount fuji behind us, unfortunately it is really difficult to see a perfect mount fuji during summer. There are a lot of clouds. This lake has very limited tourist. We also bought the 100 yen food to feed the swan and the koi in the lake. The kids love it.

Great place to visit. Plenty of nice views around the lake, with views of Mount Fuji. I recommend getting a bicycle at one of the shops along the lake and cycle around. One round will take you about 1 hour plus, and you can stop by along the way for nice coffees. Comparatively, I think here has less attractions but it is definitely quieter compared to more popular lakes which are more accessible.
Gan D — Google review
I love the lake its less crowded compared to Kawaguchiko lake and there are a lot of spots where you can capture Mount Fuji photos. You can drive around the lake or cycle around the lake. There are several convenience store and restaurants as well as many parks around the lake too. It is a very enjoyable route to see Mount Fuji.

Marutaka, a restaurant situated on the eastern side of Lake Yamanaka, offers set meals and is particularly popular for its lunch menu. It is known for providing reasonably priced options, making it an ideal choice after a run around the lake. One can select from various dishes, such as smelt fry, without worrying about the cost of rice as it is complimentary. The set meal consists of generous portions of side dishes like salad, pickles, cold tofu, and miso soup.
Very simple place and food but the miso ramen with pork was so good we came back for both nights we slept in that area. And the pork katsu was very good too.

The set meal of stir fried meat & veggies was good, but the spicy miso char siu ramen was really delicious. Prices were very reasonable. Cash only. No English menu so we just used google translate. There was only one lady served for the whole restaurant, so she was really busy. Just be patient and chill. We did and we enjoyed our meal.

20230830 - they serve typical Japanese foods like ramen, deep fried pork rice, fried vegetables with pork, curry and so on. I had barbecued pork ramen and fried dumplings today. Both are very delicious. The barbecued pork is super tender and noodles are chewy. I feel that I can eat double. Their prices are also pretty reasonable. That enables me to order what I’m interested without cost concern.

Gout-Temps, a Western establishment nestled amidst the picturesque Japanese mountains, offers patrons an extraordinary and distinctive dining experience. With its exceptional cuisine and impeccable hospitality, this restaurant leaves guests feeling grateful for their visit. The delectable fare served here is of superior quality, accompanied by top-notch service that exceeds expectations. As visitors eagerly anticipate their return, Gout-Temps becomes a cherished sanctuary celebrating England's rich heritage in a unique setting.
As it was in the mid-afternoon and all the restaurants were closed, we decided to try this restaurant as it was open. I was not expecting a British pub. Complete with its eclectic decor, completely run by Japanese, all while listening to loop of the Beatles. They have some good set meal options. I elected for the A Set with Shrimp and Mushroom Pasta. My wife got the Chicken set. These included salads and drinks. We asked for hot tea and got black tea in fine China! (The tea was good as well!) I was surprised at the food. It was really good! My pasta was perfect. My wife's chicken steak was also tasty. Her set included dessert, so she selected the Fruit Tart. It was outstanding!! If you are looking for a unique experience, in a castle-like setting, and with tasty food, then give this one a try.

Lovely restaurant at Yamanakako / Hirano area. The previous owner built this unique European house and the current owner turned it into a restaurant. It's really interesting that you don't feel like you are in Japan! There are so many interesting decorations outside and inside of the restaurant. We even saw a huge santa as part of the Xmas decorations:) Few vegetarian options available (margarita pizza, avocado cream pasta and desserts). Good for a quick bite after a long hike near Yamanakako ;)

The pizza was not good. Incredibly thin and the sauce had a canned flavor. The tea and pasta was very nice. The tea pots were very cute. They seated us in a corner that was freezing but they had a heater that warmed the place fairly quickly. The service was fast. Overpriced for what we got.

Ramen restaurant
I have sampled both shoyu (soya sauce) and shio (salt) ramen at Komen-ya Reel Cafe, and without a doubt, the shoyu variety emerged as the clear winner. Not only were the noodles incredibly tasty, but the broth displayed a well-seasoned flavor profile. Additionally, their chashu rice was top-notch.
We arrived at 14:00 for late lunch, 30-minute before restaurant close, but the place was packed, so we put our names down and waited outside for about 30 minutes on a freezing cold day. Their signature dish is soy milk ramen which is unique, rich and delicious, the ingredients like char siu , eggs , seaweeds, saffron (藏红花)were served separately in plate... one should personalize "creative decoration" 🤣 on to the large ramen bowl. 🍜

Good “gourmet” lamen, a bit expensive but I think it’s because of the location. I really like the chashu. Expect to wait more than one hour on the weekends.
