Bodies of Water
Lake Yamanaka, the largest of the five lakes located east of Mount Fuji, offers a picturesque setting for lakeside walks, bike rides, and various water activities. With its rich natural surroundings, it attracts tourists throughout the year to witness cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, vibrant autumn foliage, and snowy landscapes in winter. The area features numerous facilities including accommodations like inns and hotels, souvenir shops, camping grounds, a flower park, and excursion cruises.
This is a bit out of the way from other four lakes and quite a challenge bicycle ride from Gawaguchiko station, but it’s quite worth it. The bike path along the lake side is well maintained and less car traffic. There are many restaurants and cafes to take a break. Swans are very beautiful and they can be easily spotted.

First thing first, for those who has the need to go to toilet often, if you are coming here by joining open trip from Tokyo, then the first thing you can do is go to the toilet first or you will spend your time in waiting line because another participants will go too. They only have 2/3 rooms for female (it should be 2, iirc). After that, you can freely roaming around the lake. The lake, is the prettiest lake I've ever seen. It looks like a crysta navy blue. I was lucky to experience where the color of the lake and sky were same. I really recommend you to visit this first in the morning. You can find the open trip who puts this location as their first destination of the tour (I used the package tour from Trip, this is not an endorsement). If you are lucky, you can see swans here! They got one of the prettiest swans I've ever encounter. And if you are lucky again, you can see Mt.Fuji from here too! It was really a wonderful experience. *the swan cruise looks really elegant but I don't know how to hop inside. But it was unlikely to hop due to tour time limit.

Lake Yamanaka is a calm and scenic spot that’s perfect for a relaxing visit. The area is peaceful, with well-kept walking and cycling paths around the lake, and it offers a variety of outdoor activities like boating, fishing, and picnicking. If you’re lucky and the weather is clear, the view of Mount Fuji from the lake is absolutely breathtaking. But keep in mind—it’s often cloudy, and Fuji can be completely hidden. Early mornings tend to give you the best chance of a clear view. Even without seeing Fuji, the lake and surrounding nature are beautiful and worth the visit. A great place to unwind and enjoy a quieter side of the Fuji Five Lakes.

The first time I came here was for the fireworks on August 1st, 2025. I arrived around 2 PM and it was already crowded, haha. I ended up just wandering around the whole time. Mt. Fuji was covered by clouds, but it still looked beautiful🤍
S ( — Google review
It was fun feeding the birds and taking a ride around the lake. We didn’t get to see Mt. Fuji though because of the weather.

Yen200 / pax to buy food for swan. Better view of Fuji peak in the morning. Tip: check their live cam on their website to make sure the view is clear before coming.

Fuji Safari Park is very fun and interesting. You drive past the animals and get to see them up close. The large area is incredible, and you also have a view of Mount Fuji.

Nestled to the north of Lake Yamanakako, Nagaike Water Park is a hidden gem for those seeking breathtaking views of Mount Fuji. This picturesque spot offers free parking and is an ideal location for photographers and nature lovers alike. With its serene atmosphere, visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls along the lake's edge while capturing stunning shots of the iconic mountain, especially during sunset when the Diamond Fuji phenomenon graces the horizon.
An absolutely breathtaking view! Walk along the lake and enjoy the weather and the beautiful view of Mount Fuji. We went in January, it was a bit cold, we had to bundle up but the fresh air was worth it.
Veronica K — Google review
The best view for mt Fuji around the lake. Free carpark next to the park. Don’t miss the paths to lakeside and try your luck capturing Sakasa Fuji (Fuji mirrored by the lake surface).
Mato S — Google review
We spent our early Saturday at Nagaike Water Park and had an absolute blast! It’s the perfect spot for a fun day out with the family. The splash areas were clean, well-maintained, and just the right size for kids to enjoy safely. There was plenty of shade and grassy areas to set up a picnic, and the whole place had a relaxed, family-friendly vibe. The water was refreshing, and the park layout made it easy to keep an eye on the little ones while still enjoying the scenery. We’ll definitely be back this spot is a gem for warm-weather weekends!
Earl J — Google review
If is superb location for sunset and flower too. It is located just slightly pass Nagaike-iriguchi. The venue was awesome too compare to the usual park that everyone else goes. Slight feedback for those traveling by bus, Kindly travel back before 5pm because when the sun goes down transportation is not as easy at night unless you are fit to travel by foot
Michelle W — Google review
Nagaike Water Park near Lake Yamanaka was one of the best Fuji spots of our trip. Calm place, free parking and a crazy clear view of Mount Fuji right in front of you, with the reflection on the lake when the weather is good. We went early in the morning and it was super quiet, just a few people walking, taking photos and enjoying the fresh air. If you’re around Yamanakako, this is the perfect stop to breathe, shoot some photos and just sit down facing Fuji for a while.
Messaoudi R — Google review
A great spot to take photos or videos of Mount Fuji. There are small benches with roof so you can rest and enjoy the breathtaking view. I stumbled upon the area while cycling around Yamanaka lake.

Best view to see mount Fuji at Yamanakako. Very quite, a lot of parking space. There’s also have gazebo to enjoy your food. Big bus can’t park here. Only small car and microbus can park here

Oshino Hakkai is a picturesque village located in Oshino Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, between Yamanaka Lake and Kawaguchi Lake. The village features eight ponds known as the "eight seas of Nunye," which are fed by melted snow water from Mount Fuji. This natural filtration process results in cool and pure spring water that has been revered for over 1,200 years.
A very special indeed museum village which is an UNESCO World Heritage site. The village has 8 ponds which are considered sacred to the pilgrims who go to visit Fujisan. On a perfect day you can see the best views of Mount Fuji from the village. There is no entrance fee to visit the ponds and the village. Also a great Market is at the entrance to the village on the right side. Against a fee of 300 Yen we visited also the Hannokibayashi Folklore Museum. I personally recommend 2 hours for the visit. If you are coming by car a lot of parking spaces are near the entrance ( 200 - 300 meters by foot ). On the road from the parking spots to the main village entrance are a lot of tasty foos stalls. We ate some tasty fried baby octopuses, some Wagyu Skewers and some super tasty donuts. Jump over if you are in the region. It worth it.
Robert R — Google review
This place was beautiful and amazing to visit and experience. Even though it was a cloudy day, the spring waters were clear and beautiful. This place stays crowded, but you can escape that. Many places to try snacks and foods. The souvenir shops had a lot of good items. You can purchase fruits and many local foods. Their are walkable areas to enjoy some quietness. If you can book a group tour, it's better.
Natasha F — Google review
Oshino Hakkai is a beautiful and serene village area known for its crystal-clear spring ponds fed by Mt. Fuji’s snowmelt. The entire place feels calm and refreshing, with traditional thatched-roof houses and charming bridges adding to the scenic appeal. The ponds are incredibly clear, offering amazing reflections and views of the aquatic plants beneath. There are also small shops and snack stalls around, making it a pleasant place to walk, explore, and enjoy local flavors. A peaceful and picturesque stop that perfectly complements any Mt. Fuji or Lake Yamanaka trip.
Abhishek N — Google review
The village is enchanting and beautiful. It was crowded even at 9 am in the morning. The tranquility of the ponds and their crystal clear waters are amazing. Don't miss a visit to this enchanting village. There is also a small market with tax free that offers a variety of typical and touristic gifts.
Cynthia G — Google review
Meh... too many tourists. Bus loads! The place is too small to accommodate so many visitors. Overrated. There are many other alternatives in the area. Come only if you Xtra time or if you didnt plan your itinerary carefully and don't know where else to go. Me? I walked around for 10mins and left.
Vince C — Google review
When I visited, the place was packed to the point where it was hard to even move around . Taking a simple photo without someone stepping into the shot was nearly impossible. The tranquility that the location is supposed to offer gets lost when you’re shoulder to shoulder with large tour groups. Strongly recommended to visit early in the morning 🌅 Oshino Hakkai is absolutely beautiful. The ponds are so clear you can practically see into another dimension, and the backdrop of Mount Fuji looks like someone turned the saturation up to 200. It should be a peaceful, serene village… but apparently everyone had the exact same idea the day I went.
Filippos M — Google review
Beautiful place but very crowded with tourists. It’s better to visit early morning. Very comfortable to walk with your pet there. There is souvenir shop and food seller, I’ll recommend to try their mugwort rice cake and japanese peach tea.
Diva A — Google review
Very cute village and lots of vendors. However, some Chinese tourists were acting absolutely crazy over the water fountain to taste the spring water. They brought 5L water bottles to fill up the water and did not follow the line as they didn’t want to wait their turn. In that sense, the experience was terrible but nothing against the village. It’s quaint and beautiful.

Overall a good camping with some indoor places for kids to play on case of rain for example. The camping spots are okay. The one we got was wide but only made of stones which is not ideal to lay a tent comfortably, and not good to put tent pegs in. Very clean bathrooms and showers.
Colin M — Google review
Almost didn’t pay the entrance ticket to go in but we were glad we did. We didn’t spend long there. We went off season but the flowers were still blooming and capture many nice shots. It wasn’t crowded when we were there so we could sit down and chill.

Summer time is too hot to visit, but there are ice cream and drinks available to purchase. Rent a peddle car is a nice way to see the park. The view of Mount Fuji from the park is beautiful.

Nestled amidst lush greenery, Yamanaka Suwa Shrine is a tranquil Shinto sanctuary that holds deep cultural significance and is particularly revered for its associations with fertility and family blessings. Dedicated to the deity Toyotamahime no Mikoto, this shrine—also known as Yamanaka Myojin—is a popular destination for women seeking support in marriage, childbirth, and child-rearing. Visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of nature while enjoying stunning views of Mount Fuji and Swan Lake.
It's a beautiful shrine surrounded by plenty of trees and its two sections are connected over a bridge spanning the main road. Someone collected the fallen leaves into a heart and there's a post on to put your phone on top to take a good picture of yourself infront of the main building. You can really feel the care that is put into this shrine.
Tobias L — Google review
A nice hidden shrine on the way to Yamanakako. The walk bridge over the main road caught my attention. Quite a nice surprise.

It was beautiful during autumn. Located near the Yamanaka lake. A very good view featuring momiji and ginkgo leaves. The leaves also scattered around below, makes it a good spot for taking dramatic picture.

There are many sights around lake Yamanakako. This is one of them. There is another building to the left after you cross a bridge. There are mobile shrines inside which are used for a festival in September. At this shrine one prays for good childbirth.

Beautiful, peaceful, and easily accessible. What a wonderful place to go sit down and breathe in nature. A quick walk from lake Yamanaka and a must see. There are also little paths through the forests around the shrines if you'd like to have a little forest wander. Remember to respect Japanese customs and clean up after yourself. Enjoy the walk!
Theo S — Google review
The Yamanaka Sengen Shrine and Suwa Shrines are two intertwined shrines - one first established in 104, the other first built in 931. The Suwa Shrine was built to honour the god of agriculture - and to quiet a spreading epidemic. When bits were added in the 1500s and 1600s, the goddess of mothers and children was said to help make childbirth easier and safer if sacred waters were used The nearby Sengen Shrine was built to honour three gods in 931 - and was updated in the Edo era but destroyed by fire just after World War 1, so it was rebuilt in the 1920s and refurbished 50 years ago. To be honest, I have no idea of the difference between Suwa and Sengen ... and the brochures I picked up don't seem to help. Perhaps it's two variants of Shinto like Sunni/Shia, or Catholic/Protestants, or Pureland/Zen. Or perhaps I am completely wrong! The monk who was operating the info stand / Gift shop was friendly and seemed to want to be informative - but I had no Japanese, and his English was quite basic. It didn't matter - the shrines were peaceful and calming, and the architecture and statuary was quite charming. Certainly well worth an hour or two.

Fuji-Q Highland is an amusement park located near the base of Mount Fuji in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi. It's a popular destination for thrill-seekers with its impressive collection of rides, including Takabisha, the world's steepest roller coaster, and other famous coasters like Eejanaika, Do-Dodonpa, and Fujiyama. The park also offers two haunted attractions - Hopeless Fortress and the Haunted Hospital.
This is my 2nd visit to Fuji-Q Highland, and I was worried about how the day would pan out as my last visit was atrocious! However, let me say that today was a very pleasant surprise! I paid for the priority entrance, which gets you into the park 30 minutes early (which is massively worth it). Head for the big coasters first - Zokkon and Fujiyama, as they get the biggest queues! They have a lot of great attractions, but make sure you read the opening times of all attractions as some things do close at 1.30pm and some open later in the day. They do have a detailed maintenance schedule on their website, but the opening and closing times did catch me out on my last visit. Also, attractions will close early depending on the queue times (for which they make announcements around the park), so make sure to plan everything you want to ride in time. There are vending machines next to each ride to buy fast passes, which is handy at busy times! The food stalls in the middle of the park are great, I had the Indian food which was lush. They are well-priced, too. There are lots of vending machines all around the park. There are at least 5/6 gift shops with lots of cool merchandise. There is also a 7-Eleven outside the park! Great for fussy eaters or cheap snacks! When visiting, make sure to plan ahead and get there early for a head start as when it's busy, it can be very unorganised and stressful.
Charlotte B — Google review
We went on a Monday in late October, and it wasn’t too packed. At most we waited an hour for one of the big roller coasters. If you are looking for a park with some of the best roller coasters ever then this is it! We loved Takabisha so much, it was scary and exhilarating all at the same time! Eejanaika is going to mess with your mind, all its twists and turns. But there are other great rides too, a special mention needs to be made for Tondemina (La pizza) ride that was fantastic. This park is filled with thrills. We had the Fuji pizza which was great. As a tip, the all day pass lets you re-enter, we went back to our hotel then returned at night, well worth it. I’ve read reviews that say the safety checks take a while and they do but honestly I was glad for it. Was it worth the money? Absolutely! I’d love to go again on a clear day when I can see Mt. Fuji.
Kyle W — Google review
Amazing rides - better than any other amusement park i've been to. They lack the intricate themes other amusement parks have (e.g., Disneyland) - more bare bones adrenaline rush. And they are very good at this - rides are so fast and frenzied that it's actually important to listen to the instructions and maintain the posture they tell you to have. They require emtying all pockets before boarding rides, and also remove glasses (they didn't even allow using goggles). They have free lockers at each ride. There are some vegan options in the food court (vegan ramen and curry). Amusement park food, not bad but not good either. there is also a Starbucks with some vegan snacks and vegan lattes. When we were there the lines were very short, so we would probably could have done without the priority tickets we bought. But I read and heard that in most times the lines are very long, and priority passes are recommended. We bought everything in the fuji Q website - if the site crashes, try turning off the google translation - it worked for us.
עמוס ר — Google review
We got there right as they opened and there were little to no lines which was great. We were able to get through a few rides in just over an hour which is awesome! As the day progressed, the lines did start to get longer, but we definitely got our money's worth with the day pass. I think the longest we waited for a ride was about an hour. Also, the views of Fujisan were breathtaking! Especially from the top of the highest roller-coasters. Definitely will visit again next time we are in Japan!
Bradford S — Google review
A must if you visit Fuji area. Not that crowded during autumn season, no long lines. Really fun amusement park. Great viewing spot of Fuji. Really cool roller coasters and also a really good and huge Haunted House of 3 floors or so. Available different types of food: recommend the curry pan. Naruto themed area was really fun and entrance has a direct train station: easy to visit.
Alexandra R — Google review
We went on a Autumn Thursday so there weren't that much lines! We were able ride all the rides that were open that day. They closed some down pretty early like the pizzala and the paniclock. I think Dodonpa closed down. However, the must-try rides for speed and thrill that are usually open are Fujiyama, Takabisha (the vertical drop was amazing), Eejanaika(fast and fun), and Zokkon. The Naruto village was a great place for me since Im a Naruto fan!
Ian F — Google review
The world’s longest and insane rollercoaster with a 3.5 g force. People who love the thrill. Can’t recommend enough. We stayed at the hotel in the park and get early pass into the park. I upgraded my room to the theme rooms and it was like living in the world of Lisa and Gaspard. Closest view of Mt. Fuji when your at the highest point on the coaster.
Iva T — Google review
We visited on a weekday and it was not too crowded actually. Most visitors are local Japanese. The park has English translations at every ride and facility. It was not difficult to navigate in the park as foreigners. We were thrilled at some of the rides and totally appreciated the effort being put in designing such rides. The longest wait we did was around 80 minutes but it could be longer on weekends. Purchase fast passes if needed. You will need to register for facial recognition right before entering as every ride will require that facial scanning for you to enter. Clean park. Excellent food options. Restaurants and food stalls charged reasonably and food actually tasted good.

Visitors can also witness captivating ninja shows featuring authentic implements.
Great place to explore your inner ninja! Good show, good place to chill and visit and learn something about the way of the ninja. As for the food, unfortunately, there is no halal food option or a very limited seafood option. But overall experience was good and recommended for "Must Visit".

We had such an amazing lunch at Shinibi No Sato. The food was great and the atmosphere even better! The garden is beautiful with fantastic viewss of Mount Fuji. The staff and ninjas are wonderful and so entertaining. Highly recommend a visit here.

The Ninja Village is nice especially for kids and the staff was brilliant (I saw some families with children and they were having a blast). We were here for lunch as part of an excursion and the food was good, with vegetables available (so, healthy choices possible!). I only think there should be more food for these excursions as there simply wasn’t enough for everyone. Beautiful scenery and views of Mount Fuji!

Fun outing with the kids. When i came here pre Covid, there’s seafood set lunch. Now these’s none, so as muslim we have very very limited choice of food here (not recommended). There’s also an entrance fee of JPY1,800 per adult to enter this place (i deducted a star due to this). The place is clean and beautiful, with a garden overlooking mt fuji. Love that the place is not crowded even during golden week. All the ninjas (staff) were friendly and accomodative when you ask for pictures/ they even volunteer to take your picture.

Such a tourist trap. We stopped here for lunch during a Mount Fuji day trip. The buffet service was poor, with limited options and quantities. By the time I reached the buffet table, even the rice was almost gone. Despite there being two buffet tables, each group was only allowed to use one, which was badly organised. I wouldn’t recommend this place. Also, the toilets didn’t even have soap to wash your hands. The restaurant view was beautiful though.

Absolutely lovely place. Amazing food and atmosphere, even got to see a ninja. Make sure to walk the garden as well
Kay I — Google review
Ate as part of a bus tour. It was buffet style. The food was mediocre and mostly cold (room temp). The "ninja village" aspect was pretty mediocre too. It looked like there was supposed to be some sort of activities or something in the garden area, but all looked disused and we're empty when we visited.
Brian M — Google review
We came here as part of our mt. Fuji trip. Had an amazing lunch experience here. Food was really great. Having lunch with a view of the Mt. Fuji, luckily it was a clear day and the mount was perfectly visible. The garden was so nice, but we could not see the ninjas as expected, not do any activities as there was some work maintenance going on. But still, it was so nice to stroll around the place.

The autumn views at Asahigaoka Lakeside Greenspace Park by Lake Yamanaka were spectacular with maple 🍁 trees; from red, golden to yellow colour. The ground was covered in fallen leaves. 🍂 Highly recommended visiting place during fall season.

This is a cozy and beautiful place where you can enjoy the seasonal changes in the scenery. The events are held in each season. In the autumn, the Red leaves are breathtaking and it is not so crowded here even on weekends. Eating mitarashidango In front of firewood is amazing.

Super public bath
Yamanakako Onsen Benifuji no Yu hot spring is a picturesque open-air facility offering stunning views of Mt. Fuji. The building features two outdoor roof-covered baths nestled in natural surroundings, providing a serene and relaxing experience for bathers. With an affordable admission price and various amenities such as multiple indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, and a restaurant serving delicious food at reasonable prices, this hot spring is an ideal destination for a day trip from Tokyo.
One of the best onsen at the Mt Fuji area. For men’s bath, there are 3 pools indoor and 2 outdoor (can’t take photos). The indoor pools have a jacuzzi and a cold spring water, plus 2 sauna rooms. Wow. The outdoor pools have views of Mt Fuji (too bad, can’t see due to clouds). There are cafes to eat after the onsen and areas for massage chairs. It is a nice relaxation experience one need to do after a 11 hrs hike to Mt Fuji Summit.

INCREDIBLY Tattoos UNFRIENDLY. Not mentioned once on the website. Even covers won’t do. More Cameras in the lockers than in a bank. Baths are good but not sensational. Staff was unfriendly, it feels they are entitled for their success quite a lot to make you feel like a nobody. And that’s was also towards Natives.
Fred S — Google review
Unfortunately, we couldn't see Mt. Fuji this day, it was raining. So we spent the whole day at the hot spring, and it was really good. The food was good in taste and price, the bath facilities were really good and the rest of the space was comfortable.

We had an amazing experience at the Onsen. The views of Mt. Fuji from the outdoor baths is unbeatable. The stone bath was really hot! It was the perfect way to warm up.
Morgan A — Google review
Really nice onsen. Clean facilities and great view of Fuji from the indoor bath. Need to bring or hire a towel. Make sure you hire a towel before you get naked!
Alex M — Google review
I wish I'd try and I trust the high alcaline (>10) bath water, sauna & steam room were great but... public baths only and no swimsuit allowed (in addition to a few more prohibitions): so you must be comfortable to go publickly naked. Open at 11am.
Giovanni N — Google review
This public hot spring near Lake Yamanaka has excellent facilities that are clean and well-maintained, with various types of baths and an on-site restaurant. However, the biggest downside is that everything costs extra money beyond the entrance fee - you have to pay for towels, pay to open lockers (though they refund the locker fee), and constantly make additional payments throughout your visit. This gets really annoying when you just want to relax. The facilities themselves are good with diverse options, and it tends to get crowded. Parking is quite limited, making it difficult to find a spot. They sell Yuru Camp merchandise, apparently because the place was featured in the anime. Be very careful in the outdoor baths - the floors are slippery from the mineral water, and there are protruding stones on the bottom that can painfully cut your toes if you’re not watching where you step. Despite the irritating fee structure, the hot spring quality itself makes it worthwhile if you don’t mind the extra costs.
Minwoo K — Google review
Bring your own small towel is fine. No need to rent a big towel because you’ll dry off very quick in locker room

Hirano Beach is a popular spot adjacent to Communication Plaza Kirara, known for its easy accessibility by car. It offers stunning views of Mount Fuji and the Yamanaka Lake, making it a great place for photography. The beach is relatively less crowded compared to other tourist spots, providing a peaceful and relaxing environment. Visitors can also enjoy observing swans and geese in the clean waters of the lake. However, it's important to be mindful of keeping the area clean and respecting the wildlife.
Nice Beach.. It's actually a lake.. for sunset, it's a nice place.. Transfer to this place is quite hard with bus .. they come every 30 minutes.. with taxi are expensive.. we spent almost 16000 Yen for round trip.. It's a pre-wedding foto destination.. beside us, some couples were shooting their pre-wedding sessions

I’ve been here for photographing and chill many times, either good or bad weather, sunrise or sunset, crowded or not crowded, snowy or clear, you can check some of the media I posted here to check the real look and photography you’ll expect to get. The basics knowledge is: you need a great weather that’s at least clear, and not that windy, for the best experience. If you can’t see My. Fuji that day, you can try to come back again around sunset time to try your luck, or just skip this place. Phone, camera with wide lens can do the best job for photography. Lower your body to get the best reflection if possible:) It won’t be too crowded at all even it’s the popular season (as for now)

Hirano Beach is a beautiful and peaceful spot, perfect for a relaxing day by the water. The scenery is stunning, with clear views of the lake and surrounding hills, and on clear days, you can even see Mount Fuji. Swans often glide across the water, adding to the calm atmosphere. It’s clean, not too crowded, and has a relaxed, local feel. A lovely hidden gem for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy nature.

"Hirano Beach – A Tranquil Morning with Mount Fuji's Reflection" Hirano Beach, located on the northeastern shore of Lake Yamanaka, offers a serene setting to capture the majestic Mount Fuji mirrored on the lake's surface. This picturesque scene is best viewed in the early morning when the water is calm and the skies are clear. The beach's popularity as a prime photography spot means it can become quite crowded, especially during peak seasons. Visitors often arrive early to secure the best vantage points, so it's advisable to plan accordingly. Despite the crowds, the breathtaking view of Mount Fuji's reflection makes Hirano Beach a must-visit for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
PotDoi S — Google review
Great views of Mt Fuji with beautiful swans. You can buy some feed for the swans and you can take the swan-inspired boats out. P.S. travelled there during Golden week so it might have been more packed than but you can find opportunity to take photos in spite of the crowd.

Hirano Beach at Lake Yamanakako is a quiet, scenic spot ideal for relaxing by the water with unobstructed views of Mount Fuji. It’s one of the best places around the lake to take a peaceful stroll, have a picnic, or simply sit and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The beach is not crowded, making it perfect for those looking to escape the busier tourist spots. The air is fresh, the lake is calm, and on clear days, Mount Fuji creates a stunning backdrop for photos or quiet reflection. There are a few cafes and rental shops nearby for paddle boats and bikes, adding to the laid-back atmosphere. Whether you’re stopping by during a drive around the Fuji Five Lakes or staying in the area, Hirano Beach offers a serene and memorable experience close to nature.

Visitors can savor local specialties like the delicious Fuji Palace fried noodles available in sauce or salt flavors.
Beautiful place. Mount Fuji can be seen very well from here, because the temple is much higher than the plains. The temple is very interesting to see. Everyday, many visitors come to visit this temple. Paid Parking 🅿️ available ✅

Absolutely stunning view point. It’s beautiful at sunrise. I imagine a little nicer than sunset only due to the direction of the sunrise. It would be beautiful to see with a snow capped mountain. Let’s of stairs to climb, but the payoff is worth it.

Sensō-ji Temple is absolutely beautiful. The atmosphere walking through the gates and along Nakamise Street is unforgettable — vibrant yet still spiritual once you reach the temple itself. The architecture is stunning, and the surrounding area is full of history and culture. Definitely worth the visit!
Janine C — Google review
Absolutely stunning view. It's no coincidence that it's featured in many a travel photographers profile or book about Japan. It took us underneath a quarter of an hour to get to the top - theoretically, as you almost reach the top there's a queue waiting for the viewing platform. It's very crowded, not all people are friendly and polite and the whole experience is at the beginning (depending on your arrival time) a rather stressful one. But the views make up for it, no matter the time of day or the time of year. Photography advice: 16 to 24mm for the grand vista shots, up to 70 for details. Tripod is possible if wanted, but mind some people bumping into it. Theres facilities, the locals try the best to keep them clean, which is unfortunately not so easy as it seems.
Thomas P — Google review
Visiting Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine in November was one of the most beautiful moments of our Japan trip. The entire hillside was covered in fiery red autumn leaves, and every step felt like walking into a postcard. The colours were so bright and vivid that we stopped many times just to take them in. There are two main ways to reach the famous viewpoint near the Chureito Pagoda. The first is the long staircase almost 400 steps that climbs steadily up the mountain. It can be a bit tiring, but it’s shaded by trees and gives you peaceful moments to enjoy the autumn colours along the way. The second option is to take the road that winds up to a small parking area near the top. From there, it’s a much gentler walk, perfect if you prefer something easier. Once you reach the top, the scenery is absolutely worth it. The view of Mount Fuji rising behind the pagoda is breathtaking, especially in November when the red leaves frame the scene perfectly. We arrived in the late morning, and the mountain was clear, glowing softly under the sun. It felt like a moment you just want to stand still and appreciate.

With its majestic shrine and breathtaking scenery, it's no wonder that this park is considered one of the best places to view Mount Fuji in the Fuji Five Lakes area.
Gorgeous scenery when you make it all the way up to the outlook area. The walk can be tough, definitely prepare for the weather because you will get extremely hot climbing the 400+ steps up the mountain. Japan humidity is insane. Felt so lucky to see Mount Fuji so clearly on this day.

Going up was like hell. I’m not that fit, and those stairs really destroyed me. I had to catch my breath with every step I took. But once I got to the top, the view was absolutely mesmerizing. There was a big cloud covering Mount Fuji at first, so I waited and waited until the sky finally cleared. I’m glad I did, because after putting in all that effort, I didn’t want to just stare at clouds, lol. In the end, I’m really happy I made it up there and got to enjoy such a beautiful view.
Laloena A — Google review
I took the most iconic photo of Mt. Fuji in Arakurayama Sengen Park, and a real sense of accomplishment hit me after my eight day trip to Sapporo, Osaka, Nara, and Kobe. Seeing Mt. Fuji in real life felt like the icing on the cake of my Japan trip. Surprisingly, it is not only the view of the pagoda that is amazing. The park itself is stunning, with beautiful autumn leaves. In my opinion, it rivals the autumn colors in Hokkaido. The park can get busy, so it is best to arrive before the tour groups, preferably before 8:00 am. The photo area near the pavilion can be crowded, so do not expect to have it to yourself. From Kawaguchiko Station, take the local train to Shimoyoshida Station, then walk for about ten minutes. The pavilion is accessible after climbing roughly 400 steps. Highly recommended.

Described by the Japan National Tourism Organization as “A vividly hued park with an unbeatable view of Mt. Fuji”, it does precisely that provided the weather conditions permit. We came here last October 24. The day started rainy then cloudy. As the day progressed, the sun peeped a bit. Unfortunately, throughout these changes, Mt Fuji remained shy. We just had to content ourselves with some photo ops. There are 2 ways to climb to the top-one is an uphill slope while the other is through the stairs. Either choice, be sure to stop once in a while to appreciate the lush green surroundings and the cool, clean, crisp air. Climbing up and going down tickled our appetite so we bought some hot and sweet potato snacks. Fruits like grapes, oranges and apples were being sold at the bottom, too. Word of caution: The climb might be too taxing for seniors, persons with mobility issues and/or or people not used to walking uphill/climbing many flights of stairs. I personally enjoyed the hike that came with the view
Susie S — Google review
Honestly, a great view for Mt. Fuji viewing. However, lots of tourists takes you away from the mindset that you're going to visit shrines that are sacred to the Japanese. Also, beware the food places. Because of the heavy number of tourists, the prices of the food and parking have shot up relative to the average costs you see in the cities of Tokyo or Osaka. Make sure to bring food from a kombini if you don't want to spend inflated prices for fries or takoyaki at the food stands.
Enrico P — Google review
The place itself is of unparalleled beauty. I visited during Autumn and the colours of the Maple Corridor were surreal. The market is like any average tourist trap worldwide. Bad food, sketchy souvenirs, absurd prices. Highly recommended as a stop, once in a lifetime experience

I have to admit, it’s a very local taste and appreciation… the horse meat sashimi was really tasty… the soup in the pot had a unique taste but overall decent to Savour… The seats were the one that I was very uncomfortable with because my leg cramped 4 times throughout the meal… Will definitely come back again… 👍🏻👍🏻

Delicious traditional thick noodle houtou. The soup is very flavourful and comes with a lot of ingredients. We went for the pork version as well as the chicken, seafood and veggie option. Both were very delicious. Additionally we also ordered the mixed tempura. Wait time is around an hour to get a table. We went on a Saturday at 5.45pm. By around 7.15pm the chef put a sign at the front and the registration counter to indicate that they were not accepting any more customers presumably as they utilised their food inventory allocation for the day so come early to ensure that you are able to dine here.

They take names and pax writing to queue at entrance . Queue was super fast I waited 15mins before I get in. The restaurant is like a big canteen hall inside . Staffs are mostly elderly Japanese so they do not speak English . Service is slightly slow , I tried to raise my hand to get alert to put order but it seems not a proper way to do in Japan . 🥴 Food is ok . We were starving as this is our first meal in Mount Fuji area . I ordered the mix tempura which is 1 fish & 1 prawn . U can see how HUGE is the fish and prawn. They offer free parking behind and infront of the restaurant . When queueing outside there’s some bench and u can directly see mt. Fuji in front of u . U can take a walk at the black sand area behind the restaurant after u eat

So amazing, we went at 2pm on a Thursday (22/12/22) and was seated straight away. The pumpkin hota had great flavours and tasted so healthy and wholesome, it is also very filling. For me I loved the jumbo prawn tempura don, the pickles are the perfect accompaniment to the prawns. Also each prawn was huge, I would estimate at least 70grams excluding the coating and very fresh. I loved the miso soup that came with the dish. Parking outside and there is both traditional and table seating.

It's a popular spot in the neighborhood, often bustling with eager customers even before opening time. The parking lot fills up quickly, indicating its widespread appeal. The menu features various mouthwatering options such as lemon custard, pumpkin pudding, sour cherry, and banana chocolate pies.
Has the best chocolate cake and macadamia custard tart ever! The cake was so decadent and served with fresh cream! Everything perfectly balanced. The liqueur frosting was strong though but I loved that.. The vibes were immaculate. This is a gorgeous place for some fresh pastries!

Came on a cold Saturday around 12. There was a wait of almost an hour with more than 10 groups ahead of us. I searched for cafes around Yamanakako but I wasn't planning to come here. However, we came because the bike rental owner? At sansui recommended the apple pies here. As he said it was so popular and he was right. When it was our turn to order, it was sold out. I hope they can make more of the apple pie especially on busy days because it is popular. Had the apricot cheese cake and the pear almond pie instead, which are not bad at all. The coffee was great though I wasn't expecting the latte to be served in a "bowl" not a cup. Their blend coffee is unexpectedly good. On cold days like today, i recommend to sit indoors because only 2 tables outside have heaters. They also have a small boutique with random items to check out while waiting. Lots of car parking space. And bikes can be parked near the entrance. Kids under the age of 10 are not allowed in the store :)

Atmospheric cafe with delicious deserts. They have nice outdoor terrace with Lake Yamanaka view. The parking is free of charge with plenty of space. They don’t allow kids under 10 which is great and ensures visitors can spend their time in relaxed and quiet settings.
Paul — Google review
They allow dogs that bark loudly on the terrace, but children under 10 years old aren’t welcomed in the shop. I suppose that’s the privilege of being a well-known spot in a popular holiday resort area — you can afford to be exclusive, and people will still come in droves. I was recommended this place on social media as a must-visit for cakes at Yamanakako. The cake itself was fairly average, but the waitress who served us came across as rather passive-aggressive. Instead of making us feel welcomed, it felt more like she was showing us how not to enjoy our time there. The unspoken message seemed to be: have your cake, pay up, and get out as quickly as possible so the next group of customers can come in and hand over their money. Very disappointing. If anyone asks me for recommendations in the future, I’ll have to tell them not to visit here at all, given the concept of this store. That said, I genuinely wish the shop the best with its current business strategy.

Sunday: I walked over with my 5 year old and saw the No Kids under 10 sign. I sent her back to our cottage and waited in line to ask for takeaway pie. “No takeaway today, so sorry.” Monday: Husband and I decide to alternate taking turns getting pie alone and minding children. I wait in line and ask if they have takeaway today. Not today. I ask what day they would have takeaway. Some internal discussion and the answer, “Tomorrow will have takeaway.” Husband suggests I order 4 slices of pie and claim I can’t finish and ask for a box. I order 1 slice to eat there and propose to bring back some of its packable. Pie is not packable, all drowned in melted ice cream. Tuesday: Our last day in the area, I invent an excuse to keep us in the area until Papermoon opens at 11am. I wait in line and confirm takeaway is possible today. My turn comes, I am asked for my order. Apple pie? “No Apple pie takeaway.” They do give me 4 slices of the dark cherry pie though. My kids enjoyed them! But if I’d known, I would have tried the Apple pie when I came by myself on Monday. Pie was very delicious though!! Glad I got to have 2 slices.

Truly one of the most beautifully rustic and peaceful cafe experiences in Japan! Overlooking Lake Yamanakako, this cake shop has been operating since 1985, and offers such a wide range of homemake cakes that are to die for! Try the dark cherry pie, lemon custard tart and the boozy chocolate cake! The menu is also seasonal, so winter season comes with its own unique flavours! It opens at 11am, but the queue starts way before that. Be sure to be there early if you don’t want to wait.

Yamanakako Panorama-dai is a must-visit lookout point offering breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Fuji and Lake Yamanakako from an elevation of 1,090 meters. The spot is particularly remarkable at sunrise and sunset throughout the year. Visitors can also enjoy the sight of lone Japanese maples (momiji) near the trailhead parking lot, which provides access to a hike up Mt. Myojin in Yamanashi Prefecture.
Panorama-dai has free but limited parking, and there's even a toilet nearby, super convenient. The view from up there is really nice. You can see Lake Yamanaka, all the little houses below, and on a clear day, Mt Fuji in the background. When I went it was cloudy, so I didn’t see much of Fuji, but the view was still worth it. The whole place looks like a miniature model from above, pretty cool. Just a heads-up though: there are wild blueberries or some kind of berries on the ground, and if you’re not careful, they’ll stain your car’s white carpet or your clothes, especially if your kid walks over them and you carry them after. Happened to me lol.

The view is quite nice but if you’re going for sunset it’s not a spot for winter since the sun sets behind mountains and it won’t look pretty unless the clouds turn red. This is definitely an autumn and spring location. The parking is also very limited and technically you cannot park on the side of the road which people still do so drive slow and avoid peek times. I think it looked nice during the day as well so go then if you don’t want to do U turns back to back finding a spot to park.
Kohki Y — Google review
The viewing spot is about a 45-minute drive from the Kawaguchiko area. Unfortunately, we visited on a cloudy day on 22 August, so the famous view was hidden. The location is only accessible by car, and parking is quite limited, though we were lucky to find a spot upon arrival. Basic facilities such as toilets are available, which makes the visit more convenient.

Yamanakako (山中湖) is a picturesque town located on the shores of Lake Yamanaka, one of the Fuji Five Lakes (Fujigoko) in the Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. It’s a fantastic spot for those looking to enjoy nature, outdoor activities, and stunning views of Mount Fuji. Whether you’re visiting for a day trip or a longer stay, there’s plenty to do and see in Yamanakako, especially if you’re into peaceful lakeside retreats, hiking, or exploring the Japanese countryside. Yamanakako is known for its serene atmosphere and close proximity to Mount Fuji. It’s the second-largest of the five lakes that surround the iconic mountain, and its location offers excellent views of Mount Fuji, especially when the weather is clear. It’s a quieter alternative to some of the more tourist-heavy areas around Mount Fuji, like Fujikawaguchiko, making it perfect for those who want to escape the crowds while still being close to the natural beauty of the region. Things to Do in Yamanakako 1. Lake Yamanaka (Yamanakako): • Lake Yamanaka itself is the main attraction. It offers a variety of outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, and cycling around the 14-kilometer shoreline. Renting a boat or a pedal boat on the lake is a fun way to enjoy the views and the peaceful waters. If you’re into fishing, there are many spots around the lake where you can try catching bass or trout. • The lake’s promenade is also perfect for a leisurely walk or jog. In the warmer months, the area is great for picnics, and you’ll often see people relaxing and taking in the stunning views of Mount Fuji. 2. Mount Fuji Views: • From various points around Yamanakako, you get clear, unobstructed views of Mount Fuji. The lake’s shoreline provides some of the best spots to snap photos of the iconic peak. The views are especially beautiful at sunrise or sunset, when the lighting creates a breathtaking reflection on the lake’s surface. • If you’re an early riser, you may even get the chance to see the famous “Diamond Fuji”, a phenomenon where the sun aligns perfectly with the peak of Mount Fuji, creating a diamond-like effect at sunrise. 3. Fujisan Juku no Mori: • A forested park near Yamanakako, Fujisan Juku no Mori offers a chance to hike, enjoy nature trails, and explore forests with scenic views of Mount Fuji. There’s also a Fujisan Juku no Mori Museum that provides information about the history of the area, Mount Fuji, and the ancient Fujisan pilgrimage routes. 4. Yamanakako Hananomiyako Park: • If you’re visiting in the spring or summer, Yamanakako Hananomiyako Park (Flower Park) is a beautiful destination. The park is famous for its seasonal flowers, including lavender fields, sunflowers, and cherry blossoms (in spring). It’s a great spot for a relaxing stroll and offers great photo opportunities. • The park has a flower museum and other facilities, making it a perfect spot for families or anyone who loves nature and flowers. 5. Oshino Hakkai: • Located near Yamanakako, Oshino Hakkai is a small village that’s famous for its eight crystal-clear springs that come from the melted snow of Mount Fuji. It’s an idyllic, traditional setting with preserved old buildings, beautiful ponds, and the stunning sight of Mount Fuji in the background. It’s a peaceful place to wander and enjoy the old-world charm of rural Japan. 6. Yamanakako Onsen: • If you’re looking to relax and unwind, Yamanakako offers a number of onsen (hot springs) where you can soak in warm, therapeutic waters with views of Mount Fuji. Some of the onsens even have outdoor baths (rotenburo) that let you enjoy the natural beauty of the area while you relax. • The area’s onsen are generally less crowded than those in more famous hot spring towns, offering a quieter and more peaceful experience. 7. Yamanakako Village History and Culture: • You can also visit local cultural spots like Yamanakako Art Museum and local shrines to learn more about the history and culture of the area. The town has a calm, rural vibe and is home to local crafts, small shops, and eateries serving regional delicacies.

When the weather is clear, it’s an amazing view deck and a good half-way rest place along the mountain road with modern design. The only issue is the parking area is too limited compare to the among of visitors to this place.
Michael J — Google review
Limited parking spots. I recommend driving past this panoramic point until you reach a point where you can park on the side of the road. Better views, no people.

This spot is a must-visit if you're driving. Visited this observation spot on 28-Mar-2024 and was disappointed cause we can't see anything due to poor weather. We were lucky to revisit this place again on the next day when the weather turned good. The view was magnificent but the annoying part was the crowd of tourists (we included 😂). Also remember to hike up the small hill for better view (see video) There's no facilities nearby besides a toilet.

Fantastic views of Mt Fuji and Yamanakako. Parking is extremely limited though, I was extremely lucky to arrive and have someone leave. Might be best to plan for a weekday if you can.

Nestled along the shores of Yamanakako Lake, the Yamanakako Communication Plaza Kirara is a delightful destination that offers breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji. This expansive complex features an open-air theater and sports fields, making it perfect for various events and activities throughout the year. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls along well-maintained walking paths while soaking in the stunning scenery.
When I visited, part of the lake was still frozen, creating a stunning contrast between the lake and Mount Fuji. This area is not crowded, allowing you to fully enjoy the beauty of Fuji. However, I would recommend it more for those who drive or rent a car, as getting here by bus might be a bit inconvenient.

Another gem and a good spot to take photos of Mount Fuji. Less crowd since it is quite far from the usual tourist attraction. I came here for the sunset and there were professional photographers at this spot. It is a park so they were playgrounds and public restrooms and vending machines. There are also ample amount of paid parking space that cost around 300yen and has to be paid by cash. There are boardwalk around the lake where you can stroll around take photos of Mount Fuji.

Best place to snap Fujisan when the weather is good, and bright. We went here after researching over TikTok for the best views. While some Tiktokers gatekeep this location, we are here to share this awesome stopover. We came here by car, and it was an open space with playground for kids, toilets, open park, and walking paths for leisure. Be sure to walk along the wooden walkways for best views of Mt Fuji.

Last two years I came to Yamanashi I stayed around Kawaguchiko lake but this time (mid of October 2024) I decided to stay close to Yamanakako lake because I found several nice places and nice reviews about those places where this communication plaza was one of them. Yamanakako is more peaceful compared to Kawaguchiko. The communication plaza is huge. Many people came here to run in the morning. Me and my family just went there for the view. We took lots of photos cause every places are beautiful. It’s a little sad we could not enjoy Fujisan view cause he’s hiding under the big clouds that day.

Udon noodle restaurant
Restaurant
Watanabe Udon offers an authentic local dining experience where the staff speaks only Japanese and the menu is exclusively in Japanese as well. The service is friendly and accommodating, and guests are required to remove their shoes before being seated on the tatami platform. The restaurant can get crowded during peak hours, but it's worth it for their delicious homemade udon dishes like the classic egg and beef udon.
If you are looking to immense yourself in a local dining experience, this is it. Everyone speaks only in Japanese and the menu is only written in Japanese. The service is very friendly and patient so don’t worry about that. You have to remove your shoes before stepping up the tatami platform. We dropped our stuff at the table and then proceeded to order at the counter. They will serve the food at your table and you can pay at the counter after your meal. Self-service water dispenser is also available next to the counter. The homemade udon was thicker than usual and had a great bite to it. Simple, satisfying bowl of udon in an old-school local eatery setting. The beef was super yummy.

Cafe
Before the start of the new year, I enjoyed a delightful brunch with my friends at Noah Cafe. This charming establishment offers a warm and inviting atmosphere and boasts a splendid vantage point from where you can admire the majestic Fuji-san. Although not the most exceptional, their homestyle dishes are more than satisfactory, satisfying your hunger perfectly. The highlight was definitely their generous and delectable chiffon cake.
Stunning Mount Fuji views from Lake Yamanaka! Parked for free at Nagaike Shinsui Park and strolled along the lakeshore. Lunch at Cafe Noah (4.6 stars!) was a highlight. Delicious Hayashi rice, cheesecake, and pizza with reasonable prices (~4500 yen for three). Cozy atmosphere with Fuji photos, plus window seats offer breathtaking views. Friendly owner even gifted us a Fuji photo! Located on the quieter north side of the lake with easy free parking across the street. Highly recommend!

We stopped there while we were cycling at the lake. We had a hot chocolate, a cheesecake and a chocolate cake. Everything was delicious, we got some cold water for free. But the two ladies made the difference. They were so friendly and we had a nice talk with them, showed them where we are from on a globe and wrote in the guest book. Thank you for the tasty food and the kind welcome!

The service staff in the store were extremely rude. I came here just for taking photos, but they wouldn't let customers move around. We could only sit in our assigned seats, not even allowed to stand outside. However, if new customers came in, they would force us to change seats, even if we had arrived earlier and were already eating. It was a really bad experience. The food and coffee were both frozen solid and tasted terrible. This photo was taken when we had already sat down, but the waiter forced us to move.

Had brunch with friends here before new year’s. A cute little cafe with cozy ambience and a very good view of Fuji-san. Food were not the best, but quite good homecooked meals just enough to fill you up. Their chiffon cake was big and tasty! A friend from Japan brought me here last month. It is said to be the oldest and most famous art museum in yamanaka lake. It is also the only christmas-themed museum in Japan. Many of the pieces in the museum come from Europe in the last century (my native Germany) and are handmade, a rarity these days.

Nestled near the serene Lake Yamanaka and the majestic Mt. Ishiwari, Yamanakako Hirano Onsen ISHIWARI-NO-YU is a charming traditional onsen that beautifully blends wood and stone architecture. This inviting hot spring facility boasts an outdoor tub crafted from hinoki cypress, offering visitors a unique bathing experience surrounded by nature. The onsen's water is known for its exceptional quality, featuring a high alkalinity with a pH of 10.

Cheap if you have your own towels. 3 Small baths, very crowded, outside bath wasn't that warm in my visit. 100 yen lockers are refunded. Restaurant was more like a cafeteria and didn't look appetizing. Plenty of parking. Lots of tourists.
SAinJP — Google review
Not a great experience. Came with my partner in the evening. Not busy there. I purchased an Onsen ticket. My partner wasn't allowed because of tattoos which was expected and okay for us. It was getting dark and cold outside and we asked if he can sit inside to wait for me. Lady showed us a sum on her calculator saying 750 yen. We were quite confused and she stated that he has to pay a fee for being in the building. I asked to show me the sign saying so. There was a sign in Japanese in the entrance, however it didn't state any fee to pay. 750 yen to just SIT inside the building while waiting for me seemed like a joke as the bathing fee is 900 yen. Seemed like some kind of harassment to get my partner out of the building. We asked if he can eat in the restaurant at least but not even that was allowed only with an additional 750 yen. Never experienced something like this in Japan. Onsen itself only ok. Low quality shower products, lack of cleanliness (hair everywhere) and hair dryer only with extra payment. And after the visit I felt like getting a bladder infection, so not sure about the hygiene level of the water.
F. F — Google review
A traditional onsen that seems to be oftened by locals in the area. They have big baths and changing rooms, but not quite spacious enough to accommodate so many people. The saune could only have 3 people inside. Their outdoor baths were very nice and quite hot. Food were fairly priced and tasted fine. There are a lot of stuff being sold in the facility and the lounge space was definitely relaxing, though the space is limited. It’s not a big facility, just worth its price. 😊
Ann S — Google review
Nice onsen near Yamanakako. Several types of baths, both indoor and outdoor. The building also hosts a small market with local vegetables, a small restaurant (ramen, etc.) and several tatami rooms just to relax between the baths. The place is clean and well organized, with a nice garden in the middle. You can rent a towel on site, no need to bring anything.
Stéfan - — Google review
Nice Onsen up the mountain. It has a busstop with not so frequent busses. Two outside baths which were nice and quiet.

Visited the onsen a couple of days ago and really enjoyed it! 1.) It is separated in gender, so if you visit as a couple set a time, when you meet again, there is a clock inside. 2.) We had backpacks which were no problem, there are lockers inside. 3.) We don't speak Japanese but were welcomed warmly and everyone was really friendly and helpful!! 4.) There are 5 "pools" and I recommend watching some videos "how to Onsen", copy the people around you and just relax. Thank you for the friendlyness

This unique tour offers a delightful experience as you glide across both land and water, making it perfect for families looking to create lasting memories together.
🚌💦 Yamanakako KABA – A Must-Try Amphibious Adventure! 🗻🛶 This was one of those experiences that totally exceeded expectations! From land to lake, the ride was not just scenic — it was fun, thoughtful, and unique. 🎤 The Japanese guide was a total gem! Even though the tour was in Japanese, she held up a translation chart in English and Chinese as she explained — super considerate and engaging. You could feel the effort to include everyone, and it really made the experience more enjoyable. 🌄 And oh, the view of Mt. Fuji from the lake? Absolutely breathtaking. It feels surreal seeing it from the water — calm, majestic, and postcard-perfect. 🛑 One tip: the steps into the vehicle are a bit steep, so just take your time. It’s totally safe, even for young kids or seniors — just don’t rush. ✅ Overall? HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Whether you're a nature lover, traveling with family, or just looking for something cool and different — Yamanakako KABA is a must-go!

Eddie P — Google review
Reflecting on our trip to Japan and this was one of the unexpected moments that sticks in my mind. The tour is mercifully short so you’re not stuck on a bus for hours on end, instead it’s brief and straight to the point which is perfect for a packed schedule. In fairness though the experience was absolutely made by our tour guide who had a great sense of humour and whilst giving the guided tour in Japanese held up translated laminates so we were engaged too. The fun bit though was that we had read through the slide quickly whilst she was explaining in Japanese and reacting to the jokes, the moments of eye contact as she tried not to laugh as we did were brilliant and for that alone it was worth going. The bus station was immaculately clean, and the bus itself was comfortable and never felt unsafe even as we barrelled into the beautiful lake. Fuji-san hid from us behind clouds but the trip was no less enjoyable.
Andy L — Google review
The Kaba Bus at Yamanakako is so different from what I have ridden in the United States and other countries. I have tried similar buses in many places. It is not as fun as this one in Japan. They make it a complete experience, starting with the video at the beginning and including more fun activities to do while we are on the bus. This is the best water bus experience I have had.

We could enjoy a beautiful scenery with Mt. Fuji. From the beginning of the tour until end , there was only Japanese explanation. There were only 2-3 Japanese customers ( included me ) . I hope they provide the video with English subtitles and multilingual ear phone guide like precious time.

My trip here was a matter of luck. The website stated that if there were seats available on the KABA Hippo Bus, you could board it that day. When I arrived, the screen still said "reservation is in progress," with seven seats still available. According to the website, I could purchase tickets and board when seats became available. I thought, "I'll have some fun and seek for luck." I approached the staff with a calm and hopeful attitude, but unfortunately, their attitude was inappropriate, rude, and discriminatory. They refused to sell me a ticket because I was a foreigner! Not only did the staff fail to provide accurate information responsibly, but a local tour guide also took eight tickets for the group without any verification or even handing in any name. This was a completely unfair and discriminatory attitude. The staff are also very impatient explained that it was group ticketing time, not individual ticketing time! First, let's understand that if the screen hadn't indicated seats were available, I wouldn't have inquired. How could I have had such an unpleasant experience? Furthermore, if there truly were no seats available, I understand, but I'm also being treated rudely and disrespectfully. This kind of treatment from someone I've never met is truly disgusting. I came to Japan to enjoy tourism and local culture, and I have the impression that Japanese people are courteous and hospitable. Please don't think the "KABA Hippo Bus" is worth the money simply because it's an amphibious vehicle! However, this experience has led me to strongly discourage visiting this area, specifically because the window attendants were incredibly unfriendly. Before leaving this review, I read other reviews, and they all mentioned similar disrespectful treatment from window attendants and even bus staff. It's consistent with foreigners being treated disrespectfully, and this has been happening for a while now. I hope travelers will reconsider and that the company will be aware of such poor staff practices.

This is a place to ride the Kaba Bus, which is about a 15-20 minutes ride through Lake Yamanaka. This is a great place to enjoy the view of the lake & Mount Fuji while learning & exploring about the site & the animals in it. It was a totally different experience!

Lake Yamanakako Pleasure Boat "Swan Lake" offers a unique experience with creative amenities like binoculars and special children's seating. Visitors can observe swans incubating their eggs, with the anticipation of seeing the chicks in June. The boat ride takes about 30 minutes, providing stunning views of Mt. Fuji and the surrounding area. Despite being the largest lake among the Fuji Five Lakes, it maintains an open atmosphere with elegant swans gracefully swimming in its waters.
I stayed at the Sun Plaza Hotel which located near Lake Yamanaka, and in front of the hotel, you'll find views of the lake. The hotel is not directly on the shore, but it's very close to the lake, providing guests with scenic views of the water and Mount Fuji in the distance. The area around the hotel offers opportunities for lakeside activities and exploring the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Fun teacup / swan pedal boat rental in 30 minute chunks. Fun experience - definitely can spend an easy hour on the water. Consider getting a swan for more leg room though. The teacup is made for someone 5’5” or less in height. Don’t forget to buy duck food because the swans, fish, and ducks will all follow you around and come right up to the boat expecting to be fed. Super fun thing to do near Mt. Fuji!

Excellent area with many koi fish and ducks. You can pay to feed the animals and take swan boat rides. Very kid friendly.

Lake Yamanakako is a picturesque location that has numerous different types of water birds such as; swans, cranes and ducks. You may also see some hawks flying near the mountain side and, plenty of fish can be seen. In general it’s a nice walk by the lake, with several vendors selling swan food for 100 - 200 Yen. You can also hire bikes/scooters or, take a swan boat out onto the lake. There are various small cafes and convenience stores, with a small handful of restaurants. If you’re travelling here to get a Glimpse of Mt. Fuji, make sure you check online in advance on visibility likelihood, especially when travelling in October. Unless it’s really great weather, chances are, you will simply see clouds. The overall lake is beautiful but; the general environment and, boat areas seem a bit rundown. Maybe it gets cleaner during warm summer periods but, I generally feel that this area is slowly going by the wayside. Given the potential tourism aspect of this area; I was surprised at how rundown it was.

Okok boat ride of 20-30min to see Mount Fuji from the lake. The timing is every 30min. What I didn’t enjoy are the many flies on the beach and in the boat when u open the windows. N don’t think it’s worth 1100yen. Will skip it.

Ishiwari Jinja Shrine is a hidden gem nestled in the mountains near Lake Yamanaka, offering stunning views of Mount Fuji. The shrine is located at the 8th station of Mt. Ishiwari and can be reached by climbing 403 steps and walking through a woodland area for about 30 minutes. The shrine is known for its unique sacred rock formation resembling the Chinese character 'stone' and holds significance as the origin of Yamana.
They have done the renovation of the big gate. With the new look of the small bridge at the front. It looked so nice. Such an exceptional result 🙏🏻… Arigatōgozaimasu 🙏🏻😊

We weren’t planning to visit this place, we had some spare time and went there without much research. There were a lot of stairs at the beginning. After the shrine, there is a road that leads you to a summit where you can see Mt Fuji, but the road is very hard to walk, it’s narrow and it was very muddy that day which made it dangerous. It took sus 1 and a half hours to get to the summit and a few mins less to go back down. I would recommend to wear appropriate shoes.

Was a really nice experience except you need to know it will take you 1:30 hours to get to the top. A lot of climbing and gets more tricky towards the top. Nice adventure very close to lake Yamanakako (about 5 minutes by car - more difficult to reach if you don't have a car). The adventure starts with a simple torii door. Behind it, you can see what is probably the longest stairway you've ever seen (that was the case for me). In total, 403 steps. The first 300 are in a straight line, when you start the first step you can't even see the last ones - they are too far. After the stairs, keep walking around 15 minutes and you will reach the shrine itself. It a very small shrine, but next to it is a massive stone, cut in two parts. To bring good fortune to yourself, you have to walk three times inside the small space that's between the two parts of the rock. I didn't know that first so I walked only once. I hope I won't get cursed. If I'm cursed, maybe this was my last review posted on Google Maps. So goodbye. Going back from the shrine to the torii is about 15 minutes if you run in the stairs (which is doable).

Amazing cottages with spacious and comfortable sleeping areas, including hammocks, couches, and an outdoor sitting area. Each cottage is equipped with a car parking area, a fireplace, and a grill. Additionally, the location is convenient, with nearby stores such as the 7-11 in front of the campus. However, one downside to our rooms is the big hole in the middle of the bedroom. Overall, this hotel is a great place to stay for a vacation in Hakone.

Nestled in the heart of Yamanashi, Mt. Ishiwari stands at an elevation of 1,413 meters and offers a delightful hiking experience suitable for adventurers of all ages. The journey begins at the Ishiwariyama Shrine parking lot, where you can reach the summit in under an hour. Along the way, you'll encounter the unique shrine that features a rock split in two—a sight that adds to the mountain's charm.
Hiking the trail Mt Ishiwari - Mt Ohira - Mt Nagaike on a drizzling day. No view of Fuji. But still great hike with nice ambience of the shrine and the forest trail. Some steep wooden steps and muddy steep terrain due to the rain. Took 6 hrs to return back to the hotel.

Good for easy hike. On the way to the top, you can see large rocks. It is said that if you go around the rock three times, your wish will come true. And best of all, you can see Mt. Fuji at the top.It is an easy yet gorgeous hike. However, there are not enough parking spaces, so it may be better to come early or have a driver who does not climb.

(Translated by Google) Use the parking lot at the Ishiwariyama trailhead. It was full at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning, and luckily someone was kind enough to give it to me. However, some people who visit Ishiwari Shrine leave in a short amount of time, so if you wait patiently, there is a chance that a space will become available. There were some people parked on the road, so I guess it's a tacit agreement unless it's obstructing the road or clearly violating etiquette. First off, it's a ski jump! It makes you think, this is a truly divine stairway to the sky, and at the same time, you are horrified by its heart-breaking length. After clearing about 400 steps and walking a short distance, you will reach Ishiwari Shrine and the summit of Mt. Ishiwari. Unfortunately, the head of Mt. Fuji was covered in clouds at the summit, but if the weather is clear, the view is sure to be spectacular. However, there were so many insects at this time of year that it was difficult to take a leisurely look at them, and they soon disappeared. It would be lonely to see Mt. Ishiwari alone, so most people walked all the way.
