Waterfalls
Madakaripura Waterfall is a stunning natural wonder located near Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in Indonesia. This 200-meter tall waterfall cascades down the walls of a lush, cylindrical canyon, creating a mesmerizing sight. Surrounded by verdant jungle and impressive rock formations, it offers breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere. According to local folklore, it is believed to be the meditation site of Gajah Mada, an esteemed figure from Indonesian history.
It’s rather challenging to get here but it’s worth every step and your time! It’s really breath-taking and beautiful. I was in awe the entire time I was there. It’s quite risky but don’t worry, the local guides are very professional! They’re also good at taking photographs. Do bring a reliable raincoat as well as wear proper sandals for an enjoyable experience.
Edrie B — Google review
We had a great time visiting Madakaripura Waterfall! I came with my two kids and was pleasantly surprised that it was pretty kid-friendly. The track is beginner-friendly and manageable, though there are a few slightly tricky parts – nothing too difficult, especially with a guide or some help. The scenery is breathtaking, and the waterfall itself is stunning. The water is clean, clear, and refreshing. Just make sure to bring raincoat – you will get wet! 🌿 Even if you don’t, the locals also sell it. One tip: bring some cash and wear shoes that are suitable for trekking and okay to get wet – you’ll definitely need them. A wonderful nature adventure for families!
Sheila J — Google review
Fyi, you’ll be amazed seeing this view. I’ll suggest you to come between June-August because the guide said that it was the most beautiful moment to visit waterfall. I gave 5 stars for the services, the cleaness and ofc for the hospitality. My guide was Pak Uyik, he’ll help you to cross the stream and took a lots of photos. Thanks for the experience Madakaripura! I’ll visit again between that months so, I can get a better view 🫶🏼
Nuringtyas S — Google review
You’ll read a lot of scam about the place. In fact we really had to pay 150 k rupees per person (around 8 euro) for a short motorbike ride to the rainfall and got helmets and a local guide who brought us to the place. The money was more than worth it! You’ll get really wet, prepare!
Jonas H — Google review
Very beautiful and unbelievable. At first we just walked but when we noticed it was far away we just get a guide, and dont let them force you to pay huge money on guides if you dont want to pay it. (it is probably not mandotory but after a hard negatitonship, we just take the guide anyways because it was far away to walk.) Definitely bring sliper or open shoes and some raincoat or smth. But after all, it was worth to see.
Muhammed Ö — Google review
An absolutely breathtaking view, truly the most stunning waterfall I’ve ever witnessed. The journey to get there was fairly manageable. The hike was around 30 mins from the locket, with mostly flat tracks, a few shallow river crossings, and a couple of mild inclines. Nothing too demanding, especially with a guide and safety gear like helmets provided. Important tip: always check the weather forecast before your visit. When it rains, access to the waterfall is strictly prohibited due to the serious risk of landslides and flash floods. It’s better to postpone your trip than to put yourself in danger.
Dwi F — Google review
From the parking to the base took 5minutes ride by motorcycle. Then, 30mins hike to madakaripura waterfall We could only spent an hour because we arrived late.. We reached there around 3.45pm. entrance closing time 4pm.. But less crowd and easy to get spot for photo.. The water was really cold. Superb nice waterfall, will come early next time. Worth the visit.
Puva S — Google review
Definitely one of the most amazing waterfalls I've ever seen in my life and I've seen lots. Truly a majestic sight for the eyes ❤️✨ The trekking is very very easy for a beginner and kaum rebahan jaman now. But the steps to the waterfall were quite slippery so tourists must be careful. In my experience, the entrance, guide, helmet and ojek fee was reasonable and the local people there were quite friendly and polite. We paid for IDR 410,000 total for 6 pax. Before we left, we had lunch in "warung makan mbak anis" and it was definitely the highlight of the day. The sambal was top notch, everything was as requested; they spicyness and everything. Then we had a whole coconut as a dessert which put the cherry on top to the whole experience of visiting Madakaripura. Recommended 😊😍

History Museums
The Probolinggo Municipal Government Museum is housed in a colonial building and features a garden with replica military aircraft and artifacts showcasing the city's history. It serves as a hub for the local cultural scene and offers insights into the region's past, displaying relics from the Dutch colonies era to ancient Hindu-Buddha kingdoms. The museum is currently expanding its collection, aiming to include more exhibits. Visitors can explore various historical items such as military tanks, planes, locomotives, and more.
Amazing experience, such beautiful people inside and out.

Visited Propolingo museum today. Parking for cars onsite. Free Entry. Fans and Aircon on as museum very warm inside. Building is a good size, but with limited exhibits. Some are interesting. A few of the descriptions are in English which was helpful. Outside in the museum grounds, there is a Tank, Aeroplane, Boat and Train. Grounds need some tidying up. I was there for about 15 minutes after visiting the nearby Red Dutch Catholic church.

During my recent adventures across Java, I made a memorable stop at the iconic Mount Bromo after exploring the stunning Kawah Ijen volcano. While many travelers opt for guided tours to visit Bromo, I decided to embark on this journey independently. It’s true that navigating to Gunung Bromo without a tour can be time-consuming, especially if you're pressed for time; however, it offers a unique experience of discovery and exploration at your own pace.

The rooms were not very good. The bathroom facilities were limited. Even though the hotel offers free breakfast, were not a lot of good breakfast options. We visited this hotel on the way to the Bromo mountain. Overall, the experience was below average

Pretty good. The Mosque and traffic might wake you up. The hot water is more like 'not freezing cold ' by Western standards probably the best you will get in the area without selling your spleen on ebay. AC is ok and the food is ok the standard nasi gorang. Im a hotel snob. But I slept like a brick. Has 1 power socket, "a western toilet and the room is clean. Pay the $35au (350000 Rp) 'A' room. Cheers

Honestly, I can really recommend you to NOT stay here. Maybe Covid left it’s traces but it was quite dirty, which was probably the reason why there were so many cockroaches! Staff, however, was friendly but could barely speak English. Wouldn’t go there again - not even for 250.000 per night.

If you want to go to Bromo, I suggest to find a place in the upper side since this hostel located in the down side or in the city of Probolinggo. If you want to stay in the city, this hostel could be a choice. The bathroom is not so nice. There's dust everywhere. Very close to a very loud mosque.

Make me a review for a restaurant. That has very good oxtail soup, very friendly chef. And owner, the place is relatively esthetic. But the food is definitely best of class in portfolio.Best that i've had **5/5 Stars: A Culinary Masterpiece with Exceptional Service** I recently had the pleasure of dining at this exceptional restaurant, and I must say that it truly exceeded my expectations in every way. The moment I stepped inside, I was struck by the warm and inviting atmosphere, which set the tone for a memorable dining experience. The interior design was tastefully done, with a harmonious blend of modern and traditional elements that created a cozy ambiance. But what truly stole the show was the food. I opted for the oxtail soup, which was nothing short of phenomenal. The rich, tender meat simply melted in my mouth, and the flavors were expertly balanced to create a truly unforgettable taste experience. It's safe to say that this is the best oxtail soup I've ever had, and I've had my fair share of this dish at various restaurants. What made this experience even more special was the exceptional service provided by the chef and owner. They were both incredibly friendly and attentive, taking the time to ensure that every aspect of my meal was to my liking. Their passion for their craft was palpable, and it showed in every aspect of the meal. In summary, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates exceptional cuisine and outstanding service. The oxtail soup is a must-order, and the chef and owner's dedication to their craft is truly inspiring. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant and recommending it to friends and family.

Benteng Mayangan, a fortress included in the cultural heritage, holds forgotten history and is now being restored to preserve its greatness. Despite being in ruins, it remains an important historical site in Probolinggo City. The fort has been neglected and some parts have been converted into residential homes. Visitors can explore the area for photo opportunities and learn about its Dutch heritage buildings.

Heritage of Probolinggo City
Dodik P — Google review
(Translated by Google) Mayangan Fort is the starting point of Dutch civilization in the land of Probolinggo. This fort was built during the VOC era as a storage warehouse for trading commodities. Based on its layout, the reason this fort was built was not entirely for military purposes as was the function of forts in general, but also for VOC trade purposes, as was the case in Surabaya. The characteristic of a VOC city is that it is surrounded by walls for defensive purposes, there are warehouses for storing trade commodities, as well as government centers for administrative purposes, both trade and other purposes. As time went by, Dutch influence became stronger so they began to build their civilization outside the walls. Therefore, this fort experienced development and change of function, from initially being a small town (bandar) within the fort to becoming a military fort for defense. However, the history of this fort needs to be researched further because this hundreds of years old fort certainly has a more complex historical story. With this, this fort has great potential to become a national level cultural heritage building like Fort Oranje in Ternate. This will certainly be a huge added value for the people and local government of Probolinggo City and will attract tourists who are interested in the exotic history of the civilization of Probolinggo City.

Warung Pecel Lele PakDe, located in Sumberbulu, is renowned for being the first and most popular catfish pecel stall in the area. The simple village-style interior doesn't overshadow its specialty - the distinctively flavored peanut "lalapan" chili sauce that accompanies their catfish dishes. In addition to their delicious catfish vegetables, they also offer other menu items such as rawon, soto, and pecel rice.

Jabung Temple is a must-see site near Banyuwangi, especially if you missed visiting Brahu Temple in Mojokerto. This Buddhist temple, dating back to the Majapahit kingdom era, boasts unique red brick architecture and measures 13.13 meters in length, 9.60 meters in width, and 16.20 meters in height.
One of the temples from Majapahit kingdom with different architecture than other temples. The main body is oval and made from red brick

On the way to Banyuwangi after your program for Bromo sunrise, don't miss this site. If you didn't visit Brahu Temple in Mojokerto, then it worth visiting this temple. Both of them are similiar. The temple its self was built in brick stones. Definitely different with the temples in Java Central. It is located around 1 km away from the main street at Paiton district. No ticket needed to enter, but sure it will be more polite to give lil money to the parking man there. This temple is rarely visited by the foreigners as it is not famous as Borobudur or Prambanan temple..the people you meet will probably ask you to take some pics with you. During summer, in Indonesia is dry season, usually people here plant tobacco, and they dry their tobacco leaves around the temple. Don't forget the sunblock, during they day it will be very hot..

Bakso Stasiun is a highly recommended food establishment in Probolinggo, offering delectable cuisine that has been widely enjoyed by many visitors. The menu options may be somewhat limited, but the quality of the food more than makes up for it. One particular dish worth trying is Bakso Goreng, which consists of fried meat balls that are incredibly tasty. Another option is their Bakso Campur, which includes two different types of bakso along with bakso in tofu and noodles.
Best food i've eaten in weeks! Not spicy, thank god! And super good! Not a lot of choice but everything is very good, you should try Bakso Goreng, it's fried meat balls and it was sooo yummy, I want it again 😭😭

Cool cafe. Well, for probolinggo standard. It has good wifi, good owner (he's so kind!), good menu, and good place. Worth the money you spend!

Average... There're lot mosquitos in the 2nd floor (in the night). So far, the services was quite good... Average prices, average tastes... Recommend to bring your friend here, quite different from another cafe @probolinggo city

Better if you serve "takjil" for fasting people also when Ramadhan. Food & price was so so.
Setio P — Google review
One thing among other things we don't like is that the restroom doesn't have any urinal nor toilet, so you are expected to do your business on the floor, and it smells strongly like urine. You're supposed to pick your food and beverages by selecting from the menu cards and then go to the cashier to pay for them. The place is not hygienic enough, the food is mediocre, and the price is not good enough. They provide sinks for washing your hands but didn't bother to fill the soap dispenser. Overall disappointing dining experience.
Inge K — Google review
Okay foods, not that good but not terrible as well. Same goes with the beverages. Reasonable price, good place, not that good WiFi. Maybe going back with groups of friends, but not by myself or my couple. Overall 3.5 / 5 from me.

I was there, ordering milkshake which supposed to be has an ice cream in it but I got the milkshake only, no ice cream on top of it. I complained but the waiter just ignore me and said “I don’t know” and the second time I visit there, everything was same. The waiter didn’t give any smile or kind greeting. And they served the food with improperly.
