Nestled in the picturesque Bedugul region of Bali, Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is a serene Hindu temple located on the shores of Lake Beratan. Surrounded by clear waters and lush gardens, this temple appears to float on the surface of the lake, offering stunning photo opportunities. Regarded as one of Bali's top temples, it provides a tranquil escape from the coastal crowds and boasts breathtaking views of the mountainous landscape.
Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is undoubtedly one of the most enchanting places in Bali, and visiting it was a truly unforgettable experience. Nestled on the shores of Lake Beratan in the cool highlands of Bedugul, the temple is surrounded by serene waters and misty mountains, giving it a magical and almost surreal charm. The moment we arrived, the foggy climate added an extra layer of beauty, making the entire scenery look like a painting come to life. One of the highlights of our visit was trying boating on the calm lake. Gliding across the water while seeing the temple beautifully reflected on the surface was simply superb. The peaceful ride gave us a unique perspective of the temple and its surroundings, something I would highly recommend to anyone visiting. The atmosphere was refreshing and soothing, far from the busy city life, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the tranquility of the place. We were so captivated by the beauty that we ended up taking around 400 pictures at this single location alone. Every corner seemed photogenic, and the shifting mist made each shot unique. Without doubt, Ulun Danu Beratan Temple stands out as one of my favorite locations in Bali, offering a perfect mix of culture, spirituality, and natural beauty.

Ahh, what a place Ulun Danu Temple is! 🌸 I feel a lot of people miss this spot since it’s about an hour’s ride from Ubud central and not overly hyped on Instagram. But believe me, it’s an absolute must-visit when in Bali. The drive itself is beautiful, and once you reach, the entire temple complex and grounds are just stunning. Everything feels serene and picture-perfect. Easy logistics – paid parking & smooth ticketing. Weather drama – it changes every few minutes! One moment it was bright and sunny, and the next it turned misty, foggy, and drizzly. Photography heaven – Balinese gates, lush landscapes, and the iconic temple floating on the lake make for unreal backdrops. There are also nice, reasonably priced restaurants inside the premises, and the washrooms are clean and well-maintained (paid). You can even rent Balinese outfits for a photoshoot — sadly I missed this due to the rain. I loved every bit of it. Tip: Go prepared for sudden weather shifts and give yourself enough time to just soak in the beauty. A must-visit, one of Bali’s gems.

The Ulun Danu Beratan Temple (also known as Pura Ulun Danu Bratan) is widely considered one of Bali's most beautiful and iconic landmarks. It is having stunning natural setting, spiritual significance, and picturesque architecture, though some also note its popularity as a tourist destination. Stunning Location and Scenery: The temple is set on the tranquil shores of Lake Bratan in the cool, misty Bedugul highlands. The multi-tiered shrines (meru) appear to be floating on the water's surface, especially when the lake level is high, making it one of the most photographed spots in Indonesia. Aesthetic and Photogenic: The combination of the temple, the lake's reflection, the lush manicured gardens, and the mountain backdrop creates a truly spectacular and "must-see" visual experience. It's often referred to as the "floating temple of Bali." Spiritual Significance: It is an important Hindu water temple dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of water, rivers, and lakes, and plays a vital role in Bali's traditional *subak* irrigation system. Cooler Weather: Located about 1,200 meters above sea level, the area offers a refreshing break from the heat of the coastal regions. Accessibility: The grounds are generally well-maintained and easy for all types of visitors, including families and older travelers, to explore. Best Time to Visit: To avoid the crowds and the mist/fog that can roll in during the afternoon, it is highly recommended to visit early in the morning (around 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM). This also provides the best lighting for photos. Cash Only:Entrance fees and payments at many local stalls require cash. Boat Rides:For a unique view, visitors can take a traditional boat ride on Lake Beratan. The general consensus is that despite being a popular tourist spot, the sheer beauty of the temple's setting makes it absolutely worth visiting for anyone exploring central Bali.

Our visit to Ulun Danu Beratan Temple was truly a memorable experience. The temple's stunning location on the shores of Lake Beratan offers breathtaking views, especially with the misty mountains in the background. The architecture of the temple is intricate and beautifully preserved, reflecting Balinese culture and spirituality. Walking around the temple complex, I felt a sense of tranquility and reverence. The surrounding gardens are well-maintained and add to the peaceful atmosphere. While the area can get quite crowded, especially during peak hours, it didn’t detract from the overall beauty of the site. The staff was friendly and respectful, and I appreciated the opportunity to learn about the temple’s significance to local Balinese Hindus. One minor downside was the limited shade in some areas, so it’s best to visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the heat. Overall, Ulun Danu Beratan is a must-visit destination in Bali, offering both cultural insight and stunning scenery. I would definitely recommend it to anyone exploring Bali's spiritual sites!

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple – A Serene and Picturesque Experience! Visited Ulun Danu Beratan Temple and it was an incredible experience! The temple is very ancient and showcases beautiful and impressive architecture. It’s one of the best places to relax both your mind and body. The temple is located right on the edge of Lake Beratan, surrounded by lots of blooming lotus flowers, which add to its charm. On the other side, mountains create a stunning backdrop, making the scenery absolutely breathtaking. There are also many other photogenic spots nearby with colorful flowers that are perfect for capturing memories. For families, there’s a small park where kids can enjoy themselves. A peaceful and scenic place that I highly recommend if you want to unwind and connect with nature!

This was one of most spectacular temple as well as picnic spot in Bali. I happened to visit this spot on a Monday 28th October 2025. One must be physically present to enjoy this sceneric place and no words are enough to describe it. For influences, INSTA activist this place is a must visit. The second largest lake of Bali is here with boating facility. The added attraction is availability of traditional wedding costume of Indonesian on hire with ideal scenic spots for capturing picture of your choice. Definitely many Europeans Australian couples are interested in this attire. Easily one would spend about 3 hours here. Clean Toilet facility is available on payment of IDR 2000. Entry fee for this spot is about 75000 IDR. It's definitely a place to visit in Bali. Luwak coffee available. You can take pictures carrying Luwak or tiny mules.

Everything they have told you about this temple is true. Totally make it a point to visit this temple when you are in Bali. Its so beautiful, it looks out of the world. They tell you to reach here before sunrise, do that. We reached in the evening and the only thing we thought was 'how much more beautiful it would have looked in the morning when the sun rays hit the temple." They have made a lot of photo points in the garden near the temple but they are nothing. The temple is the real beauty. There are restaurants and souvenir shops in the restaurant compound as well. They also have a setup where you can dress up in traditional Balinese clothes and get pictures clicked for a fees. when we reached the shops were closed but you should definitely try.

Danau Beratan, also known as Lake Beratan, is a picturesque upcountry lake in Bali that boasts the famous Ulun Danu Beratan Temple. The temple, built over 350 years ago, is renowned for its waterside gardens and meru shrines. This serene lake is the second largest in Bali and serves as an important irrigation source for rice fields and plantations in Bedugul Village.
The most beautiful and impressive temple I've visited while in Bali. The place is quite big so make sure you have enough time to visit it. Also, v important, come early, because there are a lot of school buses coming with children. As it might get busy, there are lines for taking photos, just be patient. There are some gates where you can take a picture only if you rent the traditional clothing from here. Inside, there are some luwaks and rabbits which you can feed. They are very peaceful and cute. Even when it is crowded, it's worth it. The temple is one of a kind.

Beautiful place with amazing lake and mountain views. The temple looks like it’s floating on the water, especially in the morning when the mist is around. Very peaceful and perfect for photos. A must-visit if you’re in Bali! 🏔️

Clear your mind here! The weather is very pleasant. I would recommend visiting outside peak season because it’s so much better when there’s less people. If you travel by bikes be mindful of the high chance of rain, pack your raincoat.

Lovely market! You can buy different types of chips, the green leafs 🍃 one are so good 👌, peanuts, spices, strawberries 🍓 , flower seeds, orchids and bonsai. You can bargain around 30-40% max. if you buy more stuff.

I enjoyed the many variations of fruits and plants they had. All stands offer free samples. The only thing that I didn’t like is being berated with vendors trying to get you to buy from them. Some people even followed us around. It made us feel slightly uncomfortable.

Tourist trap 🪤 we tasted fruits that were delicious. We took bananas, passion fruit, and others. Final price USD 40.00 just avoid this place

Fresh market mostly fruits, vegetables and some clothes shop on the back. The fruits shop are very nice. Clothes sellers make us feel uncomfortable a bit by their pressure
Scarlet M — Google review
I love the colors of the fruits and the veggies in this market. But what I don't like is the seller kind of annoyed. All of them call to buy to buy. Hmmm I can't think focus which 1 that I want to buy. I wanna have a look what's there if I like I can buy. But I stayed maybe 5 minutes only. Bough strawberry then leave.
Natalie Y — Google review
Very good market with lots of fruit and spices options. We were on a hunt for vanilla and got a couple different ones. You definitely need to bargain to get normal prices but if you know how much things cost it is not that difficult. Even saying that strawberries were expensive, they say it is not the season yet somehow everyone has them 🤣 They also sell beautiful flowers and bonsai trees. If only the backpack had more room 😄

Warung Rekreasi Bedugul is a charming dining spot located within a serene and nature-inspired accommodation. It offers a menu featuring local dishes, making it an ideal place to savor authentic flavors. The restaurant boasts classic antique furnishings and provides stunning views of Lake Beratan and the surrounding mountains, creating a tranquil atmosphere for both adults and children.
We stopped for lunch, this is one of the most beautiful spots I’ve seen
Barry B — Google review
The restaurant is not recommended. We got a super dry chicken. At the same time 20 flyes were around us and the food, which made the experience worse and we left 50% of the food on the tabel. The glasses were not clean. The toilet is not great.
Judit P — Google review
We stopped for lunch. Best decision. The view is gorgeous and the food fresh and tasty. Wish I had taken photos but I ate it all to quick. We ordered Gado-Gado, corn pancakes, roast veggies with garlic sauce and crepe surprise with strawberry sauce. It is away from the big busses and in a beautiful garden with huge fern trees. Plus easy parking so very convenient!

WARNING - DO NOT STAY HERE UNTIL THE HOT WATER SYSTEM IS FIXED. Our daughter (13 years old) suffered carbon monoxide poisoning from the gas hot water system being placed in an unventilated bathroom. She passed out and hit her head requiring a trip to a local nurse. The warning sign on the hot water system clearly states to install in a well ventilated space outside the bathroom. I am not sure if other rooms are the same, but make sure you check. The bathroom was also quite grotty. Otherwise the gardens are peaceful and the restaurant was great. Staff were also very helpful and friendly. We received a full refund. I am not wanting to criticise, but just want to make sure the room is safe so this does not happen to anyone else.
Ross H — Google review
Food was absolutely pathetic. Kitchen filled with flies. Ordered Ayam Betutu. Worst I had in decades of living here. Insipid undercooked boiled chicken. Totally way off. Cancelled and asked for Mie Goreng. Took forever to get it and when I walked to open kitchen counter saw enormous amounts of flies infesting the food being cooked. Turned me off. Paid in full and left. Horrible.
Arvind M — Google review
Ate dinner here. The interior was nice, the food tasted good but not special. I had the grill fish mujair with a strawberry milkshake, and tasted some of the gado gado. We also asked for pisang goreng, but they ran out, so we asked if they could go to the market to make some for us which they did. Very nice.

Surprisingly, the place is beautiful and boasts an astonishing, breathtaking view of the lake and the forest-clad mountains. The food is excellent, and they even have a fireplace to keep you warm as the night air gets chilly. I would love to come back again and highly recommend it!

Buffet restaurant
Diner
Restaurant Ulun Danu Beratan is the main dining spot at the Ulun Danu Beratan attraction, offering a stunning panoramic view of the beautiful scenery including the Beratan temples and lake. The restaurant serves a variety of cuisines including Western, Indonesian, and Chinese dishes. It provides a semi-open setting where guests can enjoy views of the lake while indulging in delicious meals. Additionally, there is an option to dine inside or outside on the terrace with a playground available for children to play.
Many hot meals to select for the buffet. 3pm or 4pm the buffet will be ending. Food has a good taste and includes juices, water, tea or coffee. They have soup, but their raw vegetables as lettuce wasn't fresh. There was raw tomatoes, cucumbers, corn... I liked the cap cay or the kind of Chinese vegetable. Their noodles were a bit spicy, just perfect for me
Richard B — Google review
The buffet is large, but all the chicken is fried. Tons of carbs. Don't order the duck! Seriously! It looks amazing, but it is all skin and bones with very little meat (See before and after photos). They even served the neck! We had some vegetables with tomato sauce on them. They look wonderful and were told that it was "a little spicy"... That sauce is way more than just a little spicy! If you like spicy hit food, the flavor really is good. Then we had to contend with very aggressive flies attacking our food the whole time. Really annoying. The avocado coffee is pretty wonderful and so is their banana shake. The servers were very pleasant. This is a tourist trap and the prices reflect that, though I have been to other places that were way worse. I'm rating it 2 stars for the duck being more like a bad joke, the vegetables being way more spicy than described, and for the aggressive flies.
Jeff C — Google review
It is a BUFFET! You cannot expect too much from a buffet, this one is relatively affordable, and for this price the food is at the quality you can expect for this price. It is all above average according to me. The food is ok, there is variety (rice, pasta, chicken, fish, vegetables, spicy non spicy, salad, desserts and drinks). There is plenty of room to sit, inside and outside,. The staff is super busy but efficient and kind... They are very stressed so don't expect caring and loving attention from them. We were super happy with having the kids playground right in front of us, it made our day. We were in a bale outside with the family, it wasn't too noisy or too hot... And was close enough to the buffet. Overall it was a good stop on our way to North West Bali: a halt to eat, play, visit a temple and walk in a beautiful garden.
Michael B — Google review
The food was very tasteful and fresh. The price was fair and the stuff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is very clean and beautiful. You can eat inside or outside on the terrace with a beautiful view over the lake. Thank you for this delicious meal !

Food was ok. This is a lunch buffet so service isn't really a concern. However, I was initially told it was US$, Sing$, or € only but after pushing back they took credit card. It is a tour stop so we had a bus load show up before we left. It is a nice setting though.

Below average taste of food. Most of drivers/guides will suggest this place as a part of daily itinerary after ulun danu temple. Per person cost 144 IDR including taxes. Definitely not worth the price .

This restaurant is a scam for tourists. Drivers take tourists there so they must get a commission. We clocked on very quickly that they judge you on arrival and decide how much you are going to pay so I watched very closely. Each server writes down the price for you and then they cover the price they write for neighbouring tables so you can’t see when you walk past. The servers quickly run up to the till to tell them when you are going to pay. Buffet was very bland and for $180k per person it was ridiculous. I don’t trust buffets in general and from reading the other reviews I’m glad I didn’t eat any of the chicken or tuna. There are so many nicer local warungs to eat at so support them instead. This really tarnished our trip to the area.

Went here for lunch after visiting the Ulun Danu Beratan Temple. I was very keen on having the Ayam Betutu so I checked in the restaurant of they serve the dish before having a seat. We had the Ayam Goreng, Ayam Betutu and Nasi Goreng. Ayam Betutu is chicken cooked and topped with a sliced garlicky Masala. It tasted good. Ayam Bakar is grilled chicken. Nasi Goreng was good and came with an omelet on top. The only downside of this place is that there are flies on your table which gets irritating. Prices are reasonable.

wish to write some words about this resto just front the big temple area. good parking and just on the main street. we ordered differents plates but all were tasty and quite fast served. the price is in the range and i can consider it medium-low. the service/staff was good considering the resto 30% full. suggested for the chicken grilled.

Decided to stop here to had lunch, and it was disappointing 😅 very different than the Taliwang food that I used to eat.. the grilled fish was dry, the egg was so salty, only the Plecing Kangkung was okay.

I recently dined at Rumah Makan Taliwang As Siddiq, and overall, it was an ok experience with a few areas that could be improved. First, the location is fantastic, conveniently situated just in front of the beautiful Ulun Danu Temple. It offers a lovely view while enjoying a meal. However, I must mention that the hygiene standards at the restaurant were below average. There were many flies inside, which was a bit off-putting. I hope the management can take steps to address this issue and improve the cleanliness of the premises. In terms of ambience, Rumah Makan Taliwang As Siddiq is a casual establishment. It has a simple and modest setting, which some people might appreciate for its authenticity. However, it would be nice if they could consider some improvements to enhance the overall dining experience. On the positive side, the price of the dishes here is very reasonable, which is a plus point. And let me tell you, the Fried Rice they serve is outstanding! It is hands down the best Nasi Gorgeng I have ever tried. The flavours are incredibly delicious and authentic Indonesian. The taste alone makes this place worth visiting. One thing to note is that Rumah Makan Taliwang As Siddiq does not provide Wi-Fi. So, it would be best to make alternative arrangements to stay connected online while enjoying your meal. Despite the poor hygiene and lack of fancy ambience, I highly recommend trying their Fried Rice for its exceptional taste and reasonable price. Just be prepared for some flies buzzing around. If you are after a budget meal and don't mind the hygiene and wifi, just try the Fried Rice.

Yesterday I had lunch with my family, the food was delicious but the payment method was very old fashioned, only cash was accepted, no transfers were accepted. They should have written it in big letters on the door that they only accept cash payments, so that my wife had to look for the nearest ATM to withdraw money. It would be better if a busy restaurant provides several payment options.

The chicken is tough however, if you have to eat here urgently, then i think you should pick ayam bakar taliwang. The other food that i try is not too good.. 🙁 Sambal quiet good.

The worst restaurant-like experience ever. It isn't aligned with the temple's context. The service was slow. The most of the positions from the vegetarian menu were unavailable. The curry was actually a soup... Don't come here.

Gardens
Bali Botanical Garden, also known as Kebun Raya Eka Karya, is a vast 160-hectare garden featuring approximately 17,000 plants from Eastern Indonesia. It serves as an essential hub for research, conservation, education, and recreation. Visitors can explore the diverse flora while enjoying activities such as picnics, jogging, walking, and photography. The garden also houses a traditional Balinese-style guesthouse that accommodates visitors.
This park is wonderful, truly large and spacious, full of interesting species of plants, trees and animals, quiet, and tremendously beautiful. We've been here a couple of times as we live far south of Bali. Our 1.5-year-old puppy loves the park over the moon! It isn't a must-visit for everyone, as many tourists want to see this full-throttle essence of Bali, which this park is not. It is more about nature, peace, calmness, and sweet moments, such as sitting on the grass surrounded by gigantic trees and seeing mountains and a volcanic lake. But if you love parks, forests, views, picturesque spaces, cooler temperatures, fresh air, and long walks, this place is perfect for 2 hours or half a day. Amazing!

Spent 4 days hiking and birding the Gardens and Mt Tapak. A wonderful quiet place to walk and bird, both on the little-traveled roads and on the trails (some of which are quite overgrown). The best birding seemed to be in the southwest part of the BG near Panca Yadnya. From there to Pura Teratai Bang it is mostly native rainforest with small trails going off in various directions. Much of the rest of the Garden is covered in monoculture plantation with little undergrowth or wide lawns. Pretty, but not much wildlife. I also hiked the trail north of the Garden from the Lake View, as it showed as "forested area," but aside from maybe the first 500 yards it was overgrown plantation and pretty dull. The trail up to Mt Tapak from the BG goes through great forest but is very steep -- avoid on or after wet days. But even going up it a few hundred yards gets you into nice rainforest. Also try go midweek for less noise and traffic. Enjoy!

Beautiful park with lots of lovely scenery, highly recommend visiting. You can hire a bike, e-scooter or golf buggy to explore the massive park. Lots of places to sit, relax and enjoy a picnic. It was nice a cool high up In the mountain, which was a lovely break from the humidity and heat.

One of the best and natural botanical gardens in Indonesia. The ticket is quite cheap. We paid about 80k for 2 adults and 1 car. The view is stunning. Suitable for short healing and gathering with family or friends. Besides, they have the site to see the lake from above which gives the vibe of Switzerland when the sun shines. Will definitely come again

We visited the Bali Botanic Garden (Eka Karya) in Bedugul, a peaceful nature park surrounded by mountains and colorful flowers 🌸🌿 On the way there, we saw some monkeys sitting by the roadside — a common sight in Bedugul 🐒 Inside the garden, you can enjoy a speed boat ride on Lake Beratan — 15 minutes for 5 people, IDR 200,000 🚤 There are many beautiful photo spots like the Ulun Danu Beratan arch, swan statues, mini houses, and flower gardens 🌺 🎟️ Entrance fee: IDR 20,000 (weekday) / IDR 30,000 (weekend)

Used to be a 5 stars for me. I have visited this park many times. I love exploring the nature, the secluded temple, the nursery, grass fields, trees, moss path, etc. The weather is pleasant as it is located on higher ground. There are less or no crowds inside. The previous procedure was that cars were allowed to go in and we paid tickets for the humans and the car. July 2025 visit drops 4 stars for me:: 1. We came here during weekdays. During weekdays cars are not allowed inside the park, while it's allowed on the weekend. I would say the other way around should be implemented, if you want to implement this at all. There should be a significant less crowd on weekday. 2. So, on top of paying for ticket (which is also more expensive), you have to rent transport. Yes, you can go in by foot, but if you have visited this park before, walking wouldn't get you far because this place is huge. If you are fit and want to exercise, it's perfect, I think it would be good, no sarcasm. However, if you want to have a relaxing day, physically less able to, bring young kids, elderly, this is not an option, unless you just hang around nearby. You have to have transport, this brings me to point number 3. 3. You can rent bicycle/electric bike (30-75k/hour depending on types), or bus (25k pp one route) or golf car (250k max 4 people per hour). See pictures. So, if you have physical limitation, you can only go with golf car or bus. The bus only serves one route which you can choose. This means one destination and back, that's all. If you know this place, this is utterly ridiculous and overpriced. There are many spots to visit but there is no option to drop by or do multi-route. You want to visit another spot? Go back to the start and buy another bus ticket. Since we brought elderly and guest and wanted to visit multiple place, we had no choice but to rent a golf car which is ridiculously expensive as well because one hour barely covers anything here. The safety standard was also horrible, we got the one without handle at the rear which we only realized after we saw the others. The terrain is up and down, one can easily fall down on slope. We ended up only visit two spots that were next to each other and we had to rush it. We had to grab the side bars like monkeys. No joke, I don't think this is safe when the terrain is up. I was very worried for my mom's safety since we were sitting on the back. 4. I'm all for conservation and dedication to the park, but with all the cost that make this place very expensive now in proportion to the standard, there is barely any facilities or improvement. There are many holes on the road, lack of restroom facilities inside. The is NO emergency procedure which should be much more important now since we barely see anyone inside because of the inaccessibility. There is no map and we couldn't find some spots even though we are regular. We used to take our time to visit them, now by getting lost once or twice, the time was up. If they want to make this place more natural, less cars (wasn't a problem previously because the place is huge), there should be shuttle that go around the spots and they shouldn't charge by route, but it should be unlimited because that would be the only way for guests to visit all the spots they want. I think this would make it less natural compared to few cars in between here and there. So everything doesn't make sense to me for now. Will I come again? No. It has become just a money grabbing place, which is a pity because I have loved this place. If you bring family with different level of fitness, just go somewhere else. Yes, there are nice spots, probably walkable for all, but it's not worth the ticket. If you want to have a natural walk, that is probably the only thing reasonable and I can imagine it would be fun, but be mindful of the lack of facilities as mentioned. If you want to visit multiple spots and enjoy them in leisure like the logical purpose of visiting a botanical garden, forget it.

We visited on the weekend. The ticket was IDR 51k for two adults, plus a parking fee of IDR 10k for our motorcycle. We absolutely love this place because we enjoy walking! It’s huge, and since we arrived a bit late, we couldn’t explore much. We just did a small loop and visited the cactus glass house, which was so beautiful. One thing I wish they’d regulate is loud music. People come here for nature and the sound of birds chirping—not to hear blasting tunes, lol. Overall, we really enjoyed our time here!🌿🌿🌿

Nestled within the bustling Merta Sari market near Bedugul, Sugeng Ariawan Arts Gallery is a hidden gem that art enthusiasts shouldn't miss. For just 2,000 IDR, visitors can immerse themselves in a delightful collection of local Balinese artwork. The gallery showcases an array of stunning paintings and unique handmade items like bookmarks and postcard-sized artworks. While some pieces are proudly displayed for all to admire, others are tucked away in drawers, waiting to be discovered by curious buyers.
Balinese art gallery, paintings, bookmarks, at Merta Sari market At the busy and hectic Merta Sari market, a traditional market at the mountain near Bedugul. At the back end of the market, a sign for toilet is sending me to Sugeng Ariawan art gallery. After finished the nature's call, I ended up buying some postcard size hand made Balinese paintings. They have some good paintings, some are on display, some are kept inside the drawer, only shown to interested buyers. Not as expensive as price tags in Ubud arts galleries. I am happy with the paintings, and bought some more paintings here several times in the past two years.

Mount Catur Trail Start

4.9
(35)
Hiking area
Mount Catur, the fourth tallest volcanic peak in Bali at 2,096m/6,877ft, offers a trek to its summit starting from the Gua Jepang caves. The three-hour hike is relatively easy and provides an alternative to the popular Mount Batur trail. Located near Lake Bratan in Candi Kuning Village, this area offers cooler temperatures compared to the rest of Bali and is a refreshing escape from the island's usual heat.
Hiked the Mount Cätur via Bedugul trail last Saturday and it was fantastic. It’s a great moderate track that offers a wonderful sense of accomplishment without being overly difficult. The trail starts with a gentle, winding path through a beautiful forest. It’s a nice warm-up before you hit the main climb. The middle section does get a bit steeper, with a few well-placed switchbacks, but the trail is well-maintained, and I found it to be a good, steady workout. The views are absolutely the highlight. As you get closer to the top, the trees open up, and you’re treated to a spectacular panoramic vista of the entire valley and the shimmering lake below. There are a couple of small rocky ledges near the summit that are perfect for taking photos. And the air! It was so clean and crisp, a huge difference from the city. The cool, refreshing breeze at the top was the perfect reward after the climb. You can really feel the difference in the air quality. Tips: Start your hike early to avoid the midday sun, and be sure to bring at least 2 liters of water. There are no facilities on the trail itself. I would highly recommend this trail to anyone looking for a beautiful, rewarding hike that’s challenging but totally worth the effort for the amazing views and wonderful air. I can't wait to go back.

This is trail start point for mount Catur. This is the harder trail out of two trails up the mountain. The other start point I believe is Pakir Pura Pucak Mangu. Entrance fee 10k. Intermediate hike. Well defined trail. Always take the trail on the left and closer to the lake and you won't get lost. Can use offline map like maps.me in case. Not much views except for a few spots but here the views r stunning. Did this hike on 1 Feb 25 and took about two hours up and 1.5 hours down. Can easily take between 2 to 4 hours up depending on your fitness. Wear full covered to protect against flies, mosquitoes and leeches. Beware of monkey at the peak. They are used to human activity and can b aggressive. One less star because I did Gunung Batur last week and you get much better views for lesser effort.
Jay — Google review
The start of track looks different now, because there is new road near it. I added photo of my friends, that showing you correct path. The first part of the trail (until 5 shelter) is easy and the rest part is twice harder I think. Time to the top 3:40, but we moved slowly, talking a lot and making photos. Time to the bottom 2:40 but there was rain and really slippery mud. On the way down I always choose right path. Also we caught 4 leeches, so be careful. There is only one viewpoint on the track and most of the time you will just walk in a jungle. Beautiful temple and group of monkeys on the top By the way, we also meet big group of Indonesians on the top. They removed all plastic trash from the summit, big thanks for them 🙏🏼
John B — Google review
Definitely recommend, although it gets tough near the top. Like others have said, the trail start turns off before the maps say, around 190m left to go on Google Maps when the trail begins on your left. There's two distinct sections, first is incredibly walkable with 5 rest stop shelters - the second is very steep and jungly. Took me 1hr to go up the first section, and 1hr 45 for the second section. Coming down, the top half took 1hr and the bottom half 40 mins. Got very muddy - be especially careful if it rains, and it gets darker than you'd expect as well. Did it on my own but slipped a few times coming down because of the wet - met two other groups, both 2 people with 2 local guides. One very nervy clifftop path near the top!
Rowan A — Google review
Loved it. Word of warning, the first hour of hiking is moderate and there are 5 resting stations in that segment. The second part is very steep compared to the first and it might take you longer than you might think to reach the end. According to my GPS, the total ascend is about 782 meters, bringing you to an elevation of 2075. The distance is about 4.5km. There's also some pretty slippery parts.

Pics of trailhead below!! Difficult to find. A great but difficult hike on a not well maintained trail, however, you probably won't see many other people. A good way to get away from the crowds. Took us about 2 hrs 20 min (after finding the trailhead covered in brush) and we're in okay shape. The second half is much harder, overgrown, and steeper than the first half. Bring enough of your own water, bug spray, snacks, etc. Like other people have said - if you make it to some farms, you've gone too far. See pic below for where the trail splits - the right one is a farmers motorbike trail and the left (hidden one) is the trail to the peak. About 20 min after that split you'll find post 1, kinda broken but a sign you're on the correct trail. There are a few other posts and structures after that one. View from top was cloudy - couldn’t see much when we went but there was a ceremony happening at the top. If you are not Balinese, do not enter the temple space if there is a ceremony happening. If you bring a sarong and are dressed appropriately you can look around the temple if there is no ceremony happening. Please respect the space and bring all your trash down with you and if you can, bring other trash left at the top with you as well. Note that there are other paths from the top to other destinations - these do not loop around or connect to the path you came up. One goes to the Pelaga/Plaga village on a different side of the mountain. Pics from May 2019, may have changed since then! (For some reason my review got deleted, so updating it because it has seemed helpful)

This is not an easy one. Especially if it starts raining, which is very possible. We kept on the left side at every split road and reached top in around 3 hours with some breaks. You might wanna take some clothes to change with you. At the top we were met with a bunch of wild monkeys. Luckily they were not nosy and kept their distance. There is another way down which is mostly stairs and tiles and makes way down way easier. However you'll end up on other side of the mountain and drive back to start point is around 40min. Grab/Gojak is available in area.

Warung Muslim Bu Hj. Marfu'ah is a local Indonesian restaurant located near Pura Ulun Danau Bratan, offering authentic and tasty dishes such as Ayam Bakar Taliwang and Nasi Campur. The restaurant provides a halal dining option with friendly staff and a wide range of Indonesian cuisine. While some visitors found the grilled chicken to be small and dry, others enjoyed the grilled fish and beef soup. The restaurant also offers refreshing fruit juices like mango and strawberry.
located opposite of the temple/lake, this local restaurant is good choice to have lunch/dinner here. The price is average (quite cheap for a restaurant that located at touristic area). The food is tasty. You have to try “ Ayam Bakar Taliwang “ 👍 very recommended.

The warung is conveniently located right in front of the main entrance to the Ulun Danu Beratan tourist spot. We ordered Ayam Bakar Taliwang, Ayam Goreng Taliwang, and Beberok Terong, an eggplant dish with spicy sauce. The food was delicious, and we were very satisfied. The prices were affordable and well worth it. The chicken was tender and marinated perfectly, while the vegetables were fresh and flavorful. The sambal added a nice kick. Our driver highly recommended the Ayam Bakar Taliwang, and it did not disappoint. The warung was quite busy, with many people dining in and ordering takeout. Unfortunately, shortly after we ordered, the rice was sold out, even though there were still diners yet to order. It’s worth noting that this warung serves halal food. Overall, the experience was good. However, if you’re sensitive to smoking or have a baby, this may not be the best place for your family, as many customers smoke inside the shop.

Very cheap food, and tasty too. Ordered and it came very fast. The fried squid was great, but the chicken was a bit thin. As ever in Bali, it's on a horrible busy road, but that's an issue for the state.

It will be packed and you will not feel comfortable during the normal lunch time. It think it is nice to enjoy a cup of coffee in the afternoon because of the surrounding views and cool air. The owner amd staff are really nice. Good service

Stop here in the way to Pura Ulun Danu and I must say the view in this restaurant is nice 😊 The menu have quite a variety and the food taste good. They also gave us nice appetizers to enjoy while waiting for the food. For a local restaurant, the price is average, the portion is quite small though. The bathroom is okay. Good experience 😊

Amazing food, the best sambal matah i’ve had and i’ve tried a lot of sambal matah before in various places in Bali Ikan gurami was really good, Bebek (Duck) was also really tender. Most of the food are spicy but they’re really good Weather can be a bit cold and chilly if you’re coming in the morning
