The Malik Deenar Juma Masjid is a centuries-old mosque situated near a river and named after an Indian Islam founder whose tomb it houses. It has undergone recent renovations and now offers modern amenities such as spacious parking, food cafes, and toilets for visitors. Despite these changes, the historical appearance of the mosque has been altered. Nonetheless, visitors can still appreciate one of the oldest wooden-carved mosques that serve as a monument. The entrance gateway provides insights into its rich history and heritage.
No one knows exact date of construction, while it was renovated in 18th century, one of the oldest mosque in india sofar.... two modern structures have come upon both sides of the mosque, this camouflage makes it difficult to identify the old structure built with rosewood pillars ... very well maintained till date.
Shaik A — Google review
Beautiful and historic mosque, believed to be one of the oldest in India, initially built by Malik Ibn Deenar in the 7th Century and renovated in 18th Century. Now two new structures built on both sides for protection and space. Has separate prayer hall for ladies as well. Has the tomb of Malik Deenar. Maintained well, the architecture with Kerala style roofs, carved wooden beams, marble and cushion floorings add to the charm. People of all faith can visit, but maintain the sacred ambience, dress modestly and remove footwear before entering. Could see people sleeping/taking rest in main hall and chatting. There’s enough parking space and seating area in the front. Drinking water, restrooms are also available.
Prem R — Google review
The Malik Deenar Mosque is one of India’s oldest and most historically significant mosques, believed to have been established in 624 AD. Visiting this mosque was a truly serene and spiritual experience. It’s not just a place of worship but a historical monument that beautifully reflects Kerala’s cultural heritage. The presence of Malik Deenar’s grave, a revered figure in Islamic history, makes it a prominent pilgrimage site, attracting visitors from all over. The mosque’s history adds great depth to the visit. Knowing it has stood as a symbol of faith for centuries made it all the more special. Its architecture is breathtaking, with intricate details and a harmonious mix of traditional and modern styles that are impeccably maintained. The peaceful atmosphere is ideal for reflection and prayer, offering a deep sense of calm and connection. The community around the mosque is incredibly welcoming and kind, reflecting the true spirit of hospitality. Their warmth made the experience even more memorable. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a spiritual seeker, or simply looking for a place to find peace, the Malik Deenar Mosque is a must-visit destination. It offers not only a glimpse into history but also a space where spirituality and serenity thrive.

The Malik Deenar Juma Masjid in Thalangara, Kasaragod, is one of India's oldest mosques, believed to have been built in the 7th century by Malik Ibn Dinar, who is credited with propagating Islam in Kerala. The mosque, which features a mix of traditional Kerala and Islamic architectural styles, has undergone several renovations, with the original 7th-century structure expanded over time. It houses the tomb of Malik Ibn Muhammad, a descendant of Malik Ibn Dinar, and is a major pilgrimage site, especially during the annual Uroos festival.
Shihab S — Google review
When we enter the compound of masjid we get the positive feel. And the Masjid was outstanding by its architecture and its size.
Nihal P — Google review
Malik Deenar Juma Masjid in Thalangara is truly a gem. The moment I entered, I felt enveloped in peace. The ancient marble floors, remnants from Mecca, and the beautifully carved wooden beams echo centuries of devotion. The architecture with its Kerala-style sloping roofs and Arabic inscriptions made it a joy to explore. As a place of worship, it radiates serenity; as a heritage site, it invites awe. The nearby sea breeze, the artful dargah, and the sacred ambience make it a profound experience. A must-visit for anyone seeking spirituality, history, and architectural beauty.

Sea View Park is a hidden gem located near Kasaragod railway station, just a few meters away from the second platform. The park offers a serene environment with seating arrangements along the walkways and beautiful sunset views. It was established in 1993 and underwent renovations in 2018, making it an ideal spot to relax and unwind. Visitors can also enjoy swings and sliders for kids while observing various bird species.
Good Place to spend with family and alone... People who wants to spend a few minutes away from busy schedule need to visit this place...such a calm and quiet place where you can regain your positivity n calmness..

Sea view park is one of the few parks where the people of Kasaragod can relax with their family. But it is not well maintained. The authorities need to take care of the surroundings.
Areeba S — Google review
It has opened in 1993 and renovated in 2018 but recently visited here. Best place in Kasaragod town to sit and relax. Nice seats are arranged on the side of the walkways. We can experience beautiful sunset view from here. For kids swings and sliders are also arranged in the park. Entry is free. We can see varieties of birds. No full time security system here so few are dumping plastics and food wastes in the park. No time or instruction boards. Need more improvements like coffee shops, restrooms etc. Walkable distance from Kasaragid railway station ( second platform)

This is the first park I visited in my life, when I was in Lower Kindergarten(LKG). now, I'm came here after a long years. it's about! a gap of KG TO PG (post graduate)😄. A good place to visit with family and children for relaxing and also not crowded. i liked this place. it is near by railway station, and 15 mint walk from ksrtc bus stand. 🤗 i came here with my friends and enjoyed alot.
Semi C — Google review
Sea View Park, an unsung gem in Kasaragod. One can't find a better place than this in Kasaragod for a calm and quiet soothing relaxation. Little known to people out side Kasaragod, even many local residents doesn't know the corrent status of this park. Once abandoned like a grave yard, thanks to the authorities, step step; finally they made this park to this figure we can proud of. Plus:- • One and only place in Kasaragod we can call it as park which is suitable for any age group. • Just about 1 KM distance from Kasaragod Town. • Gentle breeze almost through the day (reason which makes me very reluctant to leave the park once I come). • The beauty of naturs mixture of River, Mangroves and Trees is a sight to behold. Highly recommend for shutterbug. • Playground for children. Minus:- • No proper parking facility, especially for four wheelers. *No regular guard to look after the park, so you may find some unused seats untidy, bring a sheet of newspaper like thing as handy. Ugly:- 'Sea View Park' has nothing to do with 'sea' or 'sea view' as the name of this park suggests😀. Final thought: Highly recommend for anyone ever happened to be in Kasaragod.

Municipal Children's Park Thalangara Padinhar is a popular recreational area in Kasaragod, Kerala. It's an ideal destination for families with young children, offering various activities and attractions to keep kids entertained. The park features stunning backwater views and provides facilities such as parking, toilets, and eateries. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk or cycle around the park while taking in the beautiful scenery.
Usually crowded on weekends. Not very well maintained. Some of the equipment aren’t working. Would recommend going there during night. There’s a jogging/walking kind of track around the park. Kids can cycle there as well.

I recently visited this park it’s a very nice place with beautiful scenery and a great beach view. It’s one of the best spots for an evening hangout. However, the park is not properly developed or maintained. If the tourism authority plans and develops it well, it could become one of the best beach parks in Kasaragod

The Kasaragod Mallikarjuna Shiva Temple, located in the heart of Kasargod town, is one of the oldest and most important temples in the area. Dedicated to Lord Shiva as Mallikarjuna, it is renowned for its captivating musical theater and Yakshagana festival. The temple's location near the Kumbala River adds to its serene ambiance. Visitors can also witness traditional wedding ceremonies held within a designated area on the temple grounds.
I visited this place around 8–10 years ago, and it still carries the same warm and welcoming vibe. It felt really nice coming back; peaceful, positive, and refreshing as always.

This temple is located in the heart of Kasaragod city, near the taluk office, with the Kumbala River flowing to its south. According to legend, the idol of Lord Shiva here was adorned by Arjuna. One of the oldest and important temples in Kasaragod, the Mallikarjuna temple is devoted to lord Shiva known here by the name Mallikarjuna. The temple is situated in the heart of the Kasaragod city near the taluk office. The Kumbala River flows close by to the south of the temple.  Legend has it that the idol of Lord Shiva in the temple is adorned by Arjuna (Arjuna in classical Sanskrit is one of the Pandavas, the heroes of the Hindu epic Mahabharata.) History The temple is datable to seventeenth century and was built by the Ikkeri kings for facilitating worship to the warriors brought from Karnataka. For a long time the temple was completely neglected. In 1977, the site of the temple had to be shifted consequent on the acquisition of temple lands for the railway line. Later the important structures were rebuilt by the renovation committee. The compound wall was constructed in 1985

A very busy restaurant at Kasargod especially in the afternoons. The famous items here are mutton sukka and Biriyani. The price is a bit high compared to the standards, the food is tasty. The biriyani is typical bland short rice one served with salad and pickle. You may have to wait to get a seat during lunch. The restaurant doesn't have a toilet.

Non vegetarian restaurant
Restaurant
If you find yourself in the charming town of Kasaragod, make sure to stop by Viceroy Restaurant, a culinary gem that’s hard to miss. Renowned for its delectable non-vegetarian offerings, this eatery is particularly famous for its biryani dishes that are nothing short of extraordinary. From the aromatic chicken and mutton biryanis to the rich butter chicken and flavorful mutton rogan josh, every bite promises an unforgettable dining experience.
In Kasaragod, if you're in search of delicious food with exceptional quality, Viceroy Restaurant is the place to be! It's hard to express just how good it is. Firstly, the parking facilities are commendable, with ample space available. Next, the customer service is noteworthy; the staff members are incredibly courteous and attentive. Now, regarding the food, it was excellent but the thing is that there is no lunch or meals option those who are coming to eat lunch there is no instead of that you can choose white rice or jeera rice with fish curry or any veg curry. We ordered a King fish biryani, chicken biryani, white rice with prawn masala, chapathi, and mushroom masala, and everything was outstanding except for the mushroom masala, which was just average, and the chapathi, which was a bit cold. The restaurant also boasts a pleasant ambiance, making it a great spot to relax with family and friends or even enjoy some alone time. Overall, I would rate it 4 out of 5.

Had a wonderful meal at Viceroy, Kasargod! The food was absolutely delicious – I tried the butter chicken with porotta, the mutton biriyani, and the prawns biriyani – all were flavorful and satisfying. I also had a mojito, which was refreshing and well-made. The food looked so tempting that I completely forgot to take pictures before digging in! The ambiance was great, the AC was comfortable, and the service was excellent. Even though the place can get crowded during peak hours, the staff handled everything smoothly and service remained quick and efficient. Overall, a fantastic dining option in Kasargod – highly recommended for anyone looking for great food, a pleasant vibe, and attentive service.

Ceylon parota was good with egg roast but Chicken biryani was just okay, not really worth the price. Bit on the costly side.

Should be the best in town but yeah, it comes with a cost 😅 Went to Viceroy Kasaragod last weekend with my family and honestly it turned into one of those rare dinners where everything just feels right. From the food to the service to the whole vibe of the place, everything was spot on. The staff was super attentive, the dishes came out perfectly timed, and the atmosphere? Pure class. You don’t usually see that kind of setting in Kasaragod, it actually gives you the feeling of a fine dining spot somewhere bigger. Yes, the prices are on the higher side but when something’s this good, it kind of makes sense. You pay a little extra but you walk out smiling and full, which is totally worth it. Definitely the best dinner spot in town if you’re chasing that mix of family time and top notch vibes.

Tried the biriyani after hearing good reviews, but it didn’t live up to the hype. The biriyani lacked flavor and the mutton pieces were quite hard possibly from an older goat. Hope they can improve the quality.

Vegetarian restaurant
Century Vegetarian Restaurant in Kasaragod is a popular eatery where people from all walks of life gather to enjoy delicious and nutritious meals. The establishment is known for its excellent service and efficiency, offering a wide variety of healthy and flavorsome dishes that cater to different customer groups. Situated conveniently near the new bustand, it is easy to locate even when crowded. This pure vegetarian restaurant serves both white rice and Keralite rice, ensuring options for everyone's preference.
It’s funny how some of the best things are hiding right in front of everyone. Century Vegetarian in Kasaragod is hands down the best spot for veg food in town, and yet, a lot of people still haven’t made their way in—even though you can literally spot it from the new bus stand. Back when I used to work in Kasaragod, this was my daily lunch stop. Tried almost everything on the menu, but nothing beat my usual—white rice, their gulab jamun, and sometimes a plate of manchurian fry just to keep things interesting. The food always came out fresh, and there’s this simple homely vibe to the place, almost like getting a home-cooked meal but with the bonus of not having to do the dishes after. It’s not flashy, and maybe that’s why it slips under the radar. But honestly, if you haven’t eaten at Century yet, you’re missing out big time. Sometimes the best gems are right there, just waiting for a hungry regular to share the secret.

This is a good hotel near Kasaragod bus stand. Only vegetarian items are available here It has a seating capacity of around 150 people to sit and eat at a time. Nice little nook near Kasaragod railway station that serves authentic local Kasaragod style kerala cuisine. The recipes are by the leading women of the family and their homely touch is reflected in the cuisine as well as the hospitality. Our host greeted us politely and described the dishes, highlighting their specialties. We liked his recommendation to try one each of their local style breads and I must say, each was unique and done to perfection. What deserves a special mention is their chicken biryani. It had the vibes of the famous Paragon Calicut biryani, but done in their own homely regional style. It was also a matter of joy to witness the success of the leading female chefs, as this restaurant is the culmination of their labor of love and a dream come true. We wish them continued success in all their endeavors. Best not to miss when in Kasaragod

Definitely a place worth visiting especially if you’re travelling as your stomach won’t get upset.

Fast food restaurant
Situated near the traffic signal across from Bhima Jewelry on Edapally Panvel highway, this establishment is spacious and well-maintained. The eatery exudes a metropolitan vibe rather than one typically found in Kasaragod, which is also reflected in its pricing. The cuisine served here is delectable and the atmosphere is delightful. However, the cost may not be justifiable for takeout orders. Adequate parking space can be found along the roadside.
On our way back home after a 3-day trip, we stopped by Royal Dine in Kasaragod, and it turned out to be an excellent choice! The restaurant provided the perfect pit-stop to relax and recharge. The food was outstanding, with highlights like the Alfaham, Butter Garlic Naan, and Mutton Rogan Josh. The flavors were rich and authentic, and the portions were generous. While the Kerala Porotta was slightly disappointing, the Wheat Porotta more than made up for it with its delightful taste. What truly stood out was the pricing, which was both reasonable and fair. The service was exceptional, with attentive and friendly staff ensuring a pleasant experience. The cozy and inviting ambiance made it an ideal spot for a family dinner or a quick bite while on the move. Overall, I highly recommend Royal Dine in Kasaragod for its delicious food, excellent service, and great value for money.

Had dinner from Royal dine the food was ok ok but not that great. Ordered a chicken chilly semi gravy which was kind of ok but nothing special. Then has alfam and for starters we had chicken clear soup and chicken lolly pop which was nice it' was tasty . Over all an ok experience. Chicken biriyan is really nice there at Royal dine as I have had it a lot it's really tasty.

Resturant is a popular dining spot known for its excellent food and family-friendly ambiance. It offers a diverse menu with highlights such as mutton raan, Malabar-style biryani, and chicken alfaham. Customers appreciate the reasonable pricing, quality service, and spacious seating. While the restaurant can get busy during peak hours, it remains a top choice for both locals and travelers. Recommended for family outings and group dining..

"Bad experience "I’m from Calicut and visited this hotel during a trip to Kasaragod town. My friend and I went there for lunch. At first, we sat at a two-seater table in the middle of the hotel, but it was uncomfortable. Near hand wash area Then we noticed another table was empty,( not showing reserve, booked board ) so we moved there. Immediately, one of the waiters came and rudely told us the table was booked and asked us to leave, without showing any respect or politeness. The way they spoke to us was very disrespectful. The service was the worst I’ve experienced, and the overall arrangement inside the hotel was very poor. In the end, we left the hotel without having lunch. Coming from Calicut, where we have so many good hotels and restaurants that treat customers well, this experience was shocking. In my opinion, this is one of the worst hotels in Kasaragod town. They seem to care only about people who spend more money, not about regular customers or basic respect. Really disappointing service and attitude..

We've been visiting this restaurant in Kasargod for a few years now, and it never disappoints. The food is consistently tasty, and there’s plenty of space for families. We always order the Russian salad, which is fantastic, and the porota and al-faham are excellent too. After your meal, don’t miss out on the mint lime juice—it’s refreshing and served ice-cold.

Awesome place to have dinner. Especially grillout smoked chicken was nothing like I’ve ever tasted before and the Malabar chicken curry was too good. The butter rotis were very crispy and not too buttery. It was budget friendly. All these came around 530/- Definitely worth the price and would highly recommend GRILLOUT 👌

Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with Madhur Shree Madanantheshwara Siddi Vinayaka Temple, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Malla Shree Durgaparameshwari Temple. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

The Madhur Sri Madanantheshwara vinayaka Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located on the banks of River Madhuvahini in Kasaragod, Kerala. The temple was constructed by the Mypadi rulers in the 10th century and later renovated in the 15th century. It is dedicated to gods Shiva and Ganesh, with intricate wood carvings depicting scenes from the Ramayana.
The temple has a rich history and a strong cultural presence in the region. It’s well-maintained, and the priests and staff are very welcoming and respectful. The prasadams offered are simple yet delightful, and the rituals are performed with great devotion.

Madhur Ganapathi Temple is one of the most peaceful and spiritually uplifting places in Kasaragod. The temple’s architecture is stunning — beautifully carved wooden structures and the serene surroundings make it truly special. The idol of Lord Ganapathi (Sree Madanantheshwara Vinayaka) gives a divine and positive energy as soon as you enter the sanctum. The temple is well-maintained, and the atmosphere is calm even when it’s crowded during festivals. The river beside the temple adds to the beauty and gives a soothing vibe. The prasadam is delicious and served with great devotion. If you’re visiting Kasaragod, this temple is a must-visit for anyone seeking blessings, peace, and a glimpse of Kerala’s traditional temple culture. 🙏

We went during the morning Pooja time so there was a little crowd but no wait time. The temple has been renovated and it's beautiful. Many stories are attached to the temple's main deities. First the puja is done for Ganesha and then for Shiva. The river Madhuvahini flows by the temple. You can buy the prasadam at the counter - 4 unniappams for 20rs. They were very tasty. The temple is frequented by many tourists from Karnataka as well.

SRI ANANTHAPADMANABHA SWAMY TEMPLE is a serene and picturesque Hindu temple situated on a lake. It boasts of a renowned crocodile, Babiya, and is managed by welcoming priests who provide insights into its history. This temple's inclusive policy allows visitors from all walks of life to enjoy its tranquil surroundings. Highly recommended for those seeking a peaceful retreat in Kumbla.
Ananthapura Lake Temple is truly a hidden gem in the heart of Kasaragod, Kerala. As the only lake temple in the state, it stands out for its peaceful ambiance, unique setting, and rich spiritual heritage. Nestled in the middle of a tranquil lake, the temple feels like a gateway to another world — calm, timeless, and full of divine energy.
Pratham R — Google review
The temple is very peaceful, with a calm atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. One unique aspect is the temple pond, which has a small divine crocodile - babiya - living in it. Consider it sacred and it peacefully coexists in the pond.
Vineeth V — Google review
The Ananthapura Lake Temple is a Hindu temple located in the middle of a lake in the Kasaragod district of Kerala. Believed to have been built in the 9th century, it is the only lake temple in Kerala and is dedicated to Lord Anantha Padmanabha, a form of Vishnu. The sanctum is situated within a tranquil lake that is fed by a perennial spring. A footbridge connects the temple to the surrounding land. The temple was famously guarded by a vegetarian crocodile named Babiya, who lived in the lake for decades and was fed by the priests. Following Babiya's death in 2022, a new crocodile appeared in the lake.

A tranquil temple slightly away from Kasargod town. As we step into the temple premises there is an instant calm that settles in you. A beautiful experience. Do not miss the sannidhis near the dining hall. I have heard that the annadaanam here is very good.
Deepthi V — Google review
My visit to this Temple was absolutely incredible! It's the only lake temple in Kerala, and it has such a peaceful, serene vibe. The main deity, Lord Mahavishnu, is seated beautifully in the middle of the lake, accompanied by his wives, Sridevi and Bhudevi. I learned that this temple is considered the original home (moolasthanam) of the Ananthapadmanabha Swamy, who is said to have traveled to Thiruvananthapuram through a cave from here. The most unforgettable part was getting to see Babiya, the legendary vegetarian crocodile and guardian of the temple. We were so lucky! We saw him in the lake, and then, during the evening prayers, he swam right up to the front of the temple. It was a truly unique and divine experience—a perfect reminder of the Almighty's power. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.
Harshith K — Google review
This is a unique Hindu temple in Ananthapura, only temple built in the middle of a lake in Kerala. 👍 The main sanctum is surrounded by a rectangular lake, access to the sanctum is via a footbridge on the eastern side. The temple welcomes all visitors regardless of faith who are respectful and mindful of the sacredness of the place. Dress code - Men need to remove the shirts / T-shirts before entering sanctum area (you can remove and keep them with you). Women are expected to wear Saree, salwar Kamez, or long skirts. Avoid sleeves tops, short dresses or tight western wear. Puja tokens are issued near the entrance counter The lake seems to have a Vegetarian Crocodile 😀 we couldn’t see though. Footwear must be left outside the temple like any other temple. (No shoe racks) Photography inside sanctum not allowed. There’s enough parking space for two and four wheelers outside. Few shops in parking area to buy any puja items.

Best time to find crocodile is afternoon opening time (4 30 pm) Most probably it will be near nada Place is so quite and calming
Pradeep E — Google review
A famous temple in the Kasargod district — one of the oldest and most fascinating ones. The main attraction here is that the temple is completely surrounded by a beautiful lake. The temple’s history itself creates a deep interest in every visitor. During the British period, there used to be a crocodile living in this lake. The British officers killed it, sadly. It’s said that crocodiles always live in pairs, but after that incident, only one remained — a crocodile named Babiya. What makes Babiya special is that it lived here peacefully, feeding only on the temple nivedya (offerings). People say it was a vegetarian! No one has ever seen it eating non-veg food — maybe because, being inside the temple premises, there wasn’t any chance to get non-veg, right? Babiya passed away around two years ago, and surprisingly, a new crocodile appeared in the same lake — also named Babiya! No one knows where it came from or how it appeared. It remains a mystery even today. You can often see it when the crowd is less, as it usually comes to the visible areas of the temple. People believe it continues to guard Lord Ananthapadmanabha as the temple’s divine protector. Visiting this temple is truly a delightful experience — the peaceful atmosphere, the beautiful lake, and these mysterious stories together make this place a very special one.

Peaceful Temple with Serene Surroundings Malla Temple in Kasaragod is a calm and spiritually uplifting place. Surrounded by nature, the temple offers a peaceful atmosphere that’s perfect for quiet reflection and prayer. The architecture is simple yet traditional, with a sense of timelessness. The temple isn’t very large, but it’s well-maintained and clean. You can feel the cultural and spiritual significance of the place as soon as you enter. It’s not very crowded, which adds to the calm vibe. While it may not be a major tourist spot, it’s definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a serene and authentic temple experience in Kasaragod.

Today, we visited the "Mallam Durga Parameshwari" Temple at 7:00 AM, located in "Muliyar" Village near "Bovikanam". Despite a light crowd, the serene atmosphere added to the experience. We received prasadam. The temple, with its rich heritage, is believed to be centuries old. Dedicated to Goddess Durga Parameshwari, the temple holds historical significance as it was constructed by the Karade Brahmins of Maharashtra on land donated by the Mallam Kshatriyas. A unique aspect of this temple is its daily Annadanam (food distribution), which serves devotees. On Tuesdays and Fridays, the temple sees a surge of devotees, making these days particularly vibrant. Visitors staying for the Satyanarayana Pooja should plan their return in advance, as bus services are available only between 5:40 AM and 6:30 PM. The temple’s idol is distinctively worshipped in three forms: as Shanta Durga in the morning, Swayamvara Parvati at noon, and Vana Durga at night. This reflects the temple’s deep-rooted spiritual traditions. The annual festival, held in February or March, spans seven days and attracts thousands of pilgrims, particularly women. Devotees offer prayers seeking blessings for prosperity and well-being. The temple is a prominent attraction in Kasaragod and features ample parking space, ensuring a comfortable visit for pilgrims and tourists alike. This visit was a spiritually enriching experience🙏🏻, and the temple's serene ambiance☺️ and well-maintained premises make it a must-visit destination for anyone in the region.

One of my favorite places to visit. Every time I come here, I feel a very peaceful and positive vibe. I’ve been visiting since my younger days and still cherish it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Meals are provided for everyone, and they are truly delicious. A Satyanarayan Pooja is performed every night here at a very affordable cost, as it is done in a group. If you visit, don’t leave without having the food it’s part of the wonderful experience.

We visited this temple in June 2024. An auto charged around 25 Rupees per head (6 people) from Nellikate to temple and 20rupees per head (5 people) from temple to Bovikanam. Buses are available from Nellikatte and Bovikanam, but not many. Lunch and dinner are served daily, but you need to collect a dinner coupon from the temple office before 7:30 PM. Basic accommodation is provided at 250 Rupees (common bathroom) and 600 Rupees (attached bathroom). .

I ordered Chicken Cheeripanjadh, and it was okay—not too great, but not bad either. However, the Cashew Dates Shake was a bit disappointing. It felt like they added more ice cubes than milk, which diluted the taste. It wasn’t as rich or flavorful as expected, but it was still drinkable. Overall, the experience was just average. Some improvements in taste and ingredient balance would make it better.

Thrikkanad Thrayambakeswara Temple stands in front of Arabic Ocean facing to the west. This Temple stands head high, attracting everybody's attention on the side of the national highway between Kanhangad and Kasargod. In Malabar, this is the only Siva Temple facing to the west. The Temples in old Moonnuthara (Uduma, Chemmanad and Pallikkara) are the participants in the festival of Thrikkanad Temple. The Gods and the believers of each Temple will join in the procession of the Thrikkanad Temple festival from their places. Then together they will go through the seashore as a big procession. Among them The Velichappadu of Palakkunnu Temple will be accompanying. Everybody will enter in to the Temple. Expect the Velichappadu. It is said that, like a watchman the Velichappadu have to stand near the main steps is connected with some myths. This temple is famous for Karkitaka Vavu Bali.

Pristine place to visit the temple. Nice face of the tryambakeshwar. Nothing much to do except that there are lots of people doing the last rites of departed souls. Do try the appe prasada and kadum payasa because the prasada are really tasty.

This Beautiful Temple Popularly Known As Dakshina Kashi, Dedicated To Lord Shiva Which Is Located On The Shores Of Arabian Sea...
MURALI K — Google review
Beautiful temple located on the shores of the Arabian Sea. It is located in Kasaragod district and is easily accessible on the Edapally Panvel highway. Parking spots are available next to the temple. Be sure to visit this temple and read the legends associated with this temple online. This temple is known as a place for performing last rites for our beloved ones who have departed.

Manu people visit here during weekends to carry out the rituals. Located on the highway side, opposite to the sea..

Lord Shiva is the deity. The idol is decorated with a human like face, which differs from most other Shiva temples in the region. The temple is located on the main highway between Kanhangad and Kasargod-nearer to Kanhangad. Devotees who come here are mostly those who wish to do the final rites of their departed ones. The usual procedure is to Collect booking receipts to do the required poojas. Buy betel leaves and arecanuts from nearby. Take a dip in the temple pond. Submit one portion of betel leaves and arecanuts at the temple entrance door. Proceed to do Bali tharppanam area and do the rites, this is within the temple enclosure. Take the small Roopams which you may have brought from your home after Thila homam. Take a dip in the sea nearby, release the part of the offering you got from Bali tharppanam earlier. RETAIN the Roopams with you. Submit the Roopams at the special hundi at temple entrance. Take a dip in the temple pond. Change clothes. Complete all other poojas you may have after entering the temple.

Located between Kanhangad and Kasaragod, thos beautiful Lord Shiva temple is right on the Kasaragod Panvel highway, facing the majestic Arabian sea on the opposite side. This is my 2nd visit to this temple. Last visited in 1994 and now, yesterday. This temple is also known as Dakshin Kasi temple. People come here to offer prayers for peaceful resting of departed souls of family members. Very peaceful place. Om namah Shivaya namah

Car parking is available. Fort is in ruins.. not maintained properly.. free entry.. You can skip this fort if you are out of time.. 1. Historical Background: Built in the 17th century by Shivappa Nayaka of the Keladi Nayaka dynasty. Marked the decline of the Kolathiri Kingdom as the Keladi Nayakas expanded after the Vijayanagara Empire's fall. Located near the Chandragiri River, historically marking the boundary between Kolathunadu and Vijayanagara Empire. 2. Architecture: Hilltop fort, 150 feet above sea level, offering views of the Arabian Sea and Chandragiri River. Rectangular design with laterite stone walls, though now in ruins. Believed to have secret tunnels for escape or attacks. 3. Significance: Served as a military outpost for coastal defense and trade route control. Played a role in regional conflicts and negotiations. 4. Present-Day Highlights: Popular for panoramic views and sunsets over the Arabian Sea. Hosts cultural events and festivals. 5. Nearby Attractions: Bekal Fort: Larger and well-preserved fort nearby. Chandragiri Boat Club: Offers scenic backwater boat rides. 6. Tourism Appeal: Scenic location, ideal for history enthusiasts and photographers.

Chandragiri Fort is a wonderful spot nestled in the scenic landscape of Kasaragod. As you step into the fort, you're greeted by breathtaking views of the Chandragiri River flowing into the Arabian Sea. The fort's strategic location offers panoramic vistas that are simply stunning, making it an ideal spot to watch the sunset. The peaceful and calm atmosphere within the fort premises provides a perfect setting for relaxation and introspection. The fort is steeped in history, having been built by Sivappa Naik of Bedanore in the 17th century. As you explore the fort, you can almost hear the whispers of the past, with tales of the Vijayanagara Empire and the British East India Company. The fort's architecture and surroundings make it a great spot for photography, with plenty of opportunities to capture stunning images. However, some visitors have noted that the fort could benefit from better maintenance, with inadequate staff and facilities. Despite some areas for improvement, Chandragiri Fort remains a must-visit destination for nature lovers and history enthusiasts. The fort's tranquil ambiance and stunning views make it an ideal spot to unwind and connect with nature. While the road leading to the fort needs improvement, the scenic views and historical significance make it well worth the trip.
Adhipa R — Google review
A beautiful historic fort overlooking the confluence of the Chandragiri River and the Arabian Sea. The place offers stunning panoramic views, especially during sunset. This is a small fort when compared to Bekal, but it has its own charm and peaceful atmosphere. There is some parking available just down the road, making access easier. The area is quiet with lots of greenery around and perfect for photography.
K R — Google review
A beautiful historic place. You can see an amazing panoramic view of Chandragiri river and it's surroundings from the top. But the authorities are not making use of it. I guess just for name sake some staffs are coming and sitting there and exactly at 5PM they close the gate and leave the place. If you want to have a visit, be there at least by 4:30PM. This will be an amazing sunset spot where people can come, sit, chit-chat and enjoy the beauty of the fort if managed properly. But who cares! How can some one enjoy a place in harsh sun light in the afternoon? Government office timings won't work out here. This has to be opened at least till 7PM.

Boxy Hilltop Fortress Sited Above The Chandragiri River Offering Dramatic Sunset Views...
MURALI K — Google review
Wasted time searching for the fort, the roads leading to the fort need maintenance, won’t feel like it’s a fort, in a residential area. There’s no signage on the entrance, in fact there’s a small opening with chained blockades which anyone can easily miss while driving. Parking is on the narrow road side, bigger cars will have problem. Free entry, Once inside one can see the Chandragiri river and part of Arabian Sea, fort is not maintained well. Bekal fort is larger and better maintained.

The Hosdurg Fort, located in Kanhangad, is a massive structure that has the potential to become a popular tourist attraction if properly maintained. With its impressive size, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Arabian Sea and the nearby Manjampothikunnu hill. It is an ideal spot for relaxation in the evenings. Unfortunately, the fort currently lies in a state of disrepair, overgrown with grasses.
Very big fort in Kanhangad. If it is properly maintained it will become tourist attraction. Its fortress is very big. From that we could see Arabian see and manjampothikunnu. It is a best place to relax in the evening. Now this fort is in a bad condition. Fort is covered with grasses. If it is cleaned well nice location for photographers. This is one of the historical monuments in Kerala. From the top fortress we can see ships and boats from the Arabian sea. There is a cave in the fort near Swami Nithyananda ashram.

Hosdurg Fort ( there’s no fort in the real sense now) is in Kanhangad near Kasaragod. Hosdurg Fort was built by Somashekara Nayaka of the Nayaka dynasty. There are only remnants of the fort left now and most of it are covered in thick vegetation. Near to the tower is the Public Crematorium and the other parts have many Government buildings housing many offices and a School. Better to avoid the place and if you’re religiously inclined the Nithyanandasram nearby with its 45 caves for meditation is a better option.
Tomy C — Google review
Not even the locals there know about the existence of such a place. If you keep on going round and round checking for all possible roads to the place that Google shows. The fort is kind ok OK. An OK view of the place around. If maintained well, can become a good 15 minutes visit and photo spot.
Eldo B — Google review
Is this even a fort? Someone tell me if this is a fort. It's a bunch of bricks with a way up. Yes, you get a view, but it ends there. Finding the way up is more satisfying than the view. Wading through the tall grass reminds me of playing Pokemon. A wild bidoof may emerge. The search for this fort, that seemed almost unknown to the locals was something. "Fort?" "Huh?"
Erin S — Google review
Hosdurg Fort is a fort in Kanhangad which is part of kasaragod district  in Kerala  state. Hosdurg Fort with its round bastion looks imposing from a distance. Somashekara Nayaka from the keladi nayaka  dynasty of Ikkeri built this fort. The place is made well known by the Nithyanandasram with 45 caves. The fort is now in ruins, but located nearby is a school and some government offices. To the south-west of the fort is a temple that was also built by the Nayaks. The temple, dedicated to Shiva, is named the Poonkavanam Karpooreswara Temple.

This is one of the most underrated places in Kasaragod. It's an underground cave and it can be good to test your courage to walk in complete darkness with many bats (will remind us of horror movies). It will be a good experience if you are going as a group of people, unless you are an ultimate goosebumps seeker 😅
Akhil N — Google review
I had a remarkable experience exploring the natural underground cave. This privately-owned gem is a must-visit, especially during the summer. The entry fee of 30₹ per person is well worth it. The cave's cool temperature provided a welcome escape from the heat outside. The owners thoughtfully provided flashlights, ensuring a safe and enjoyable adventure. It was fascinating to spot bats, adding to the cave's natural allure. I highly recommend this cave to anyone seeking an exciting and refreshing experience in nature.
Alex J — Google review
Awesome natural underground cave. Very dark and cool inside. Bats inside. Low ceiling in some spots. It's a private place, the owner discovered the cave network when he dug a well. Safe in summer, not sure in rainy season. Not a full fledged or popular tourist spot yet, but tourists do visit. Takes less than 40 minutes to walk through. Good for family visit, no food outlets nearby. Parking available.
Subhag M — Google review
It's not visually beautiful or amazing but considering from the prospect of geological evolution of the Cave, it's is really interesting. They way its been crafted like a couble of small tunnels. It's not amazing like waterfalls, hilltops, beach or other natural beauty to come although way here but if you are near 20km of this place then I suggest to visit for recreation. As its a cave there is not much to see but down in cave, the temperature is slightly lesser then of surrounding and eco of sound have a different feeling, group of friends enjoy with small trekking and baby rock climbing activities.... It's also nice place for couple and families as there also small park for kids...
Akhilesh N — Google review
Vist here if you wish to have a look at nature's hidden beauty. It's located not so far from Bheemanadi. During rainy season the cave maybe underwater and not open, so best time to visit will be summer. This is a private property and I really like to thank the owners for maintaining it and opening it for the public. If you find the gates closed or need to know the availability do contact the owners and they will definitely help you out (contact details available on the sign boards, do check out the images). The stairs down to the cave are bit too steep, so elderly people may find it difficult but it's hardly 20 steps. It's a nice spot to hangout with friends and family and only need 30 minutes max to explore the entire cave. Have fun, keep it clean, thank you ✌️. Are you a photographer? Try out some long exposure shots, will be cooooolll 😇
Rejoys T — Google review
Surprisingly attractive natural cave. Even though its bit difficult for elderly and children to go down the stairs, ones you enter the cave, its a wonderful world. Its very cool inside even in the midst of summer. Entry fee is also minimal. There is a small ice cream shop in the entrance area run by the owners of the land. There is a small pond with fishes too. Other than this pond and ice cream there is nothing much for children to enjoy. I highly recommend this place for nature lovers but not for elderly or for people with muscle and join pain.
Anisha J — Google review
It was our first experience a walk inside the cave with fear and excitement.ther wer two caves.. Must visit.. Charges 30 rs only..someone will be available to guide you..

A batman cave- Yes you read that right. The cave has many bats living inside. It is a bit isolated property. Caretaker is available there who shows you the caves. The caves promises a very unique experience. The entry is quite steep so not suitable for elderly.

Restaurant
Apple Restaurant and Cool House is conveniently situated near the entrance of Bekal fort. The staff members are courteous and efficient in their service, ensuring a pleasant experience for customers. The food offerings are delicious and reasonably priced, making it an ideal choice for those on a budget. Additionally, there are separate dining areas available for families to enjoy their meal in privacy. This restaurant offers a simple menu with a variety of options to choose from. Its location right on the highway makes it a convenient stop for travelers.
Their food is best in town I must say. During our stay in Bekal we had multiple meals here and they have wise variety of food available.
Bloggers B — Google review
This restaurant is an absolute disgrace. The hygiene is appalling, with filth everywhere and the restroom resembling a neglected sewer, full of waste and stagnant, foul-smelling water. It was enough to make me lose my appetite. To make matters worse, the prices are *obscenely* high for what they offer. The audacity to charge so much for such a disgusting environment is beyond comprehension. The staff? Completely incompetent and indifferent. They couldn’t care less about the customers, and their lack of professionalism is insulting. This place is a health hazard, a waste of money, and an embarrassment to the food industry. Avoid it at all costs
RB O — Google review
Located on the state highway, this spot is perfect for travelers and families alike. Our bus stopped here for dinner and a quick restroom break. We tried the mixed fried rice, and it was impressive in both taste and quantity. With ample seating and a family-friendly atmosphere, it’s a great choice for a quick and satisfying meal while on the road.
Jaseem M — Google review
We went there on the recommendation of our resort staff. Whatever we wanted to place order from the menu were unavailable. Finally settle for 1 plate rice and dal fry. Dal quantity was not enough for one plate of steam rice but overall the food was decent. Salt was little less in the dal and thus we had go add salt separately. Watermelon and mousambi juices were nice. Salad was also served as complimentary. Service was fast. Price was decent.

Vegetarian restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Kasaragod, Vasanth Vihar is a charming vegetarian café that beckons food enthusiasts with its delightful array of dishes. This beloved eatery specializes in pure vegetarian cuisine, offering an impressive selection that spans South Indian favorites like ghee roast masala dosa and puri sagu to North Indian delights and even Continental options. The ambiance is inviting, especially as the sun sets over the beachside setting, creating a perfect backdrop for a memorable dining experience.
One of the best hotels in the heart of Kasaragod, with a legacy of over 30 years, I really loved the antique atmosphere with comforting food 🔥❤️
Amogha M — Google review
It was a mistake. I should never have visited this hotel. Coffee felt like soap solution. It cost 20 rupees too. Also had dahi Puri which had more than enough salt in it. Dahi was served in a small plate. I could only spread a few spoons on top of the puri. I strongly believe the amount of dahi provided is not sufficient for the dahi Puri. Dahi Puri cost rs.60. the size of the puri were also small. Also the masala dosa was average in taste and the price is rs.55 I think people are coming here because, this is the only vegetarian hotel around. I Won't recommend this place to anyone. They have some space for parking inside the premises. UPI payments accepted. The interior is kept clean. This is the only positive i could find about vasanth vihar.
Susanth K — Google review
A great choice for anyone looking for a clean and comfortable pure vegetarian restaurant. The place serves authentic and tasty Veg. food (The Sambar served with Masala dosa tastes typical Mangalorean-style) that feels homely and satisfying. It also offers ample parking space. The serving staffs are cordial and attentive and never waiting for tips. The pricing is quite reasonable for the quality and service provided. Overall, it’s a highly recommended spot for pure veg food seekers.
