Hindu temple
Shri Murudeshwara Shiva Temple is a magnificent Hindu temple featuring a colossal statue of Lord Shiva situated dramatically on a peninsula. The temple, located on Kanduka Hill surrounded by the Arabian Sea, offers breathtaking views and well-maintained surroundings. Visitors can climb steps to reach the impressive Shiva idol and explore its accompanying cave with an informative tour. Additionally, the area boasts a beautiful beach with water sports like scuba diving and various shops and hotels for visitors to enjoy.
Visited Shree Murdeshwara Shiva Temple, and it was a amazing experience. The massive Shiva statue overlooking the sea is breathtaking and adds to the spiritual vibe of the place. The temple is beautifully maintained, and the gopuram is impressive in its architecture. The view of the Arabian Sea from the temple premises is stunning, especially during sunset. The whole atmosphere felt peaceful and spiritual. A must-visit destination if you are in Murdeshwar.

Murudeshwar Temple is one of the most stunning and peaceful places I’ve ever visited. The towering Shiva statue overlooking the Arabian Sea is truly breathtaking, and the temple architecture is magnificent. The serene atmosphere and coastal breeze make the spiritual experience even more special. The temple is well-maintained, with clean surroundings and good facilities for devotees. Watching the sunset from here is a magical experience. A must-visit destination for anyone seeking divine blessings, breathtaking views, and unforgettable moments!

I recently visited the Murudeshwar Temple, and it was one of the most breathtaking experiences of my trip. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located right on the Arabian Sea coast, offering a mesmerizing view of the ocean. The temple is famous for its massive 123-foot tall statue of Lord Shiva, which is one of the tallest in the world. The Raja Gopura (entrance tower), which stands about 20 stories high, is beautifully designed, and there’s even a lift facility inside to reach the top and enjoy a panoramic view of the sea and temple surroundings. You can reach the top of the temple raja gopura via lift until 18th floor. The height of the raja gopuram is 249 feet. The temple architecture is a fine mix of modern design and traditional carvings, making it truly unique. The darshan queue is usually well-managed, and on regular days it takes around 30–45 minutes, though weekends and holidays can get crowded. There’s no mandatory entry fee, but a small donation or special pooja ticket can be taken if desired. - Timings: Usually from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. - Dress code: Modest clothing is expected. men should avoid shorts, and women should wear traditional attire. - Anna Prasada is served during specific hours. - Ample parking, clean premises, and plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. - The nearby beach adds to the charm, making Murudeshwar both a spiritual and scenic destination.

🌊 Shri Murudeshwara Shiva Temple – A Truly Divine Experience! 🕉️ Visiting the Shri Murudeshwara Temple was an unforgettable experience. The entire place is incredibly well-maintained and systematic, which makes exploring it peaceful and pleasant. The cleanliness around the temple premises really stood out — every corner is spotless, and the management clearly takes great care to preserve the sanctity and beauty of this divine spot. Standing before the towering Shiva statue with the Arabian Sea stretching endlessly behind it is simply mesmerizing. The panoramic ocean view from the temple complex is breathtaking — it’s one of those sights that make you stop, smile, and feel grateful to be there. Whether you go for spiritual reasons or just to soak in the stunning coastal scenery, Murudeshwar is a place that leaves your heart full and your mind calm. A must-visit gem of coastal Karnataka! 🙏✨

Murudeshwar Shiva Temple is one of the most mesmerizing and divine places I’ve ever visited. The temple is beautifully located between the majestic Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea, creating a breathtaking view from every direction. The towering 123-feet statue of Lord Shiva is the main attraction — it’s absolutely stunning and radiates a powerful spiritual energy. The temple complex is very well maintained, clean, and organized. The Raja Gopuram, which is one of the tallest in India, offers a panoramic view of the sea and surrounding areas. You can take the lift inside the gopuram to reach the top — the view from there is simply unforgettable! What makes this place even more special is the calm and peaceful atmosphere. You can hear the sound of waves as you offer prayers, and it feels like nature itself is part of the worship. The nearby Murudeshwar Beach is also perfect for a relaxing stroll after visiting the temple. 🕉️ Tips for Visitors: Visit early morning or around sunset for the best views and peaceful darshan. Don’t miss the gopuram lift experience. Keep your surroundings clean and respect the temple rules. Try the local food stalls near the beach — they serve fresh and tasty snacks. Overall, Murudeshwar Temple is not just a religious destination — it’s a spiritual and visual experience that stays with you forever. A must-visit place for every traveler and devotee.

About the Temple Architecture: The temple complex features a 20-story gopura (gateway tower), which is the second-tallest in India. Location: The temple is situated on Kanduka Hill, surrounded by the sea on three sides, offering a serene and scenic setting. I visited temple on friday morning with zero rush....pictures not allowed inside temple....with no rush we easily explored temple. Free food offered to every visitor. Entry to Beach is not allowed when we visited ( can be change in future). What i observed is Beach is in bad condition not cleaned. Temple looks too good in night due to the light show... Entry fees for using lift is 20rs in gopuram which takes us to 18th floor... and offers a panaromic View of ocean and shiva statue.

Shiva of Murudeshwara

4.7

Hindu temple
The Statue of Shiva in Murudeshwara is the second tallest Lord Shiva statue globally, standing at 123 feet. It's a serene and spiritual place with a park nearby and a viewing gallery on the 18th floor of the entrance tower offering breathtaking views, especially during sunset. The temple complex also houses a Rameshwara linga at the bottom of the hill, adding to its peaceful atmosphere.
This temple has a wide history which is located at the coast of the Arabian sea. It is the 3rd tallest shiva temple and surrounded by 3 sides of water which is really good to enjoy. Rush will be high on weekends and it will take time for darshan. The ultimate thing is many people can see the architecture of Raja gopura which is 20 floors. Try to visit early in the morning so the rush will be less and later you can visit the gopura. There are many water activities, such as food, and shopping available.

The Shiva statue at Murudeshwara is truly iconic—it stands 123 feet tall, making it the second tallest statue of Lord Shiva in the world. We visited the temple with friends and enjoyed the serene atmosphere. The nearby beach and beautiful location make this a wonderful place to experience both spirituality and nature. Seated majestically on a hilltop facing the Arabian Sea, the view is breathtaking with the sun setting behind and the cool sea breeze flowing.

A Divine Experience at Murudeshwar Temple The Murudeshwar Temple, one of Karnataka's oldest and most revered Shiva temples, offers a truly uplifting experience. As you approach, the gigantic temple tower immediately captures your attention, and the divine statue of Lord Shiva radiates a powerful, positive aura. Situated right on the shores of the beach, the temple boasts a stupendous, panoramic view of the Arabian Sea, adding to its serene charm. During my visit, I was particularly impressed by how well-maintained the temple complex was. It was refreshing to see that there was no VIP darshan system in place; everyone was treated equally, and the waiting time for darshan was minimal, allowing for a peaceful and unhurried experience. For visitors, the temple also provides morning tiffin (typically upma and puffed rice) at specific times, and lunch is available. Do note that dinner is not served. The temple generally opens its doors at 6:00 AM and closes around 8:00 PM, giving ample time to explore and soak in the spiritual atmosphere. Based on my personal experience, Murudeshwar Temple is an absolute must-visit place for anyone seeking spiritual solace, architectural grandeur, and breathtaking natural beauty.

Santhana K — Google review
The Shiva statue at Murudeshwar is seriously massive — it’s actually the second tallest Shiva statue in the world, standing at 123 feet. What makes it even more stunning is the location — it’s built on Kanduka Hill, with the Arabian Sea on three sides, so the views are just incredible. The way the statue is positioned, it catches sunlight all day, so it literally glows and sparkles from a distance. There’s also a 20-storey Gopuram (temple tower) next to it with a lift — and the view from up there, with the sea behind the statue, is just unreal. One small letdown, though — up close, you can see the statue’s surface is quite rusted. Being so close to the sea, it definitely needs regular maintenance, and the lack of it kind of shows. Still, the overall vibe and location make it worth a visit.

Discover the awe-inspiring Raaja Gopura at Murudeshwar Temple, a monumental 237-foot structure with 21 stories, making it the world's second tallest gopuram. This architectural marvel, built in 2008, offers breathtaking views of the 123-foot Sri Shiva idol and the expansive ocean. Visitors can access the top floor via a lift for a nominal fee and enjoy panoramic vistas of the stunning surroundings.
Raaja Gopura is the entrance to the Murdeshwara Temple. It has 18 floors & is a modern engineering marvel. Many beautiful sculptures are carved on tower. And lift facility is available to go to the top of the tower but you still have to wait for it as there will always have a queue near the lift & it has a ticket price of ₹20 per person. The view from the top of the tower is amazing & you can basically watch the whole Murdeshwara town from the top of the tower. The view during sunset is so mesmerizing & very beautiful.

🌊 Shri Murudeshwara Shiva Temple – Where Heaven Meets Earth 🙏🛕 If there’s one place where spirituality and nature come together in perfect harmony, it’s Murudeshwar! Nestled along the Arabian Sea coast of Karnataka, this temple is nothing short of a divine wonder. 🔱🌴 The 123-feet tall Shiva statue here is absolutely breathtaking — sitting calmly with a divine glow, overlooking the roaring sea. Standing in front of it, you can’t help but feel peaceful and grounded. 🌊🧘‍♂️ The towering Raja Gopura (249 ft) is equally majestic, and yes — it has an elevator! 🚡 Don’t miss the panoramic view from the top — the blue sea, green surroundings, and massive statue of Lord Shiva form a surreal scene. 📸🌅 You can spend time on the clean beach, enjoy snacks, or take a boat ride 🛶. Also, don't forget to explore the cave museum, Murudeshwar Fort, and nearby temples. I visited on a weekend, and yes, the place was crowded (over 1 hour to enter), but worth every second. ❤️ The positive energy, chanting of "Om Namah Shivaya", and cool sea breeze make it a once-in-a-lifetime experience. --- ✨ Pro Tips: Visit during sunrise or sunset for amazing views 🌇 Carry a good camera 📷 Wear modest clothes (it’s a temple!) Be patient during weekends and festivals 🙏 Try local South Indian food nearby – super tasty! 😋 --- This place is not just a temple, it’s a feeling, a spiritual escape, a calm corner of the universe. Whether you believe in Shiva or not, you’ll leave this place refreshed, humbled, and inspired. 🕉️💫 Highly recommended! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The absolute best part of visiting is seeing the majestic Shiva statue with the ocean view from the temple tower! Just be aware, this incredible view requires a paid ticket, and the temple tower opens at 7:30 AM. After getting your ticket, you'll take a lift up to the top floor. When you step out, you're immediately struck by the stunning sight of Lord Shiva against the sparkling ocean. It's an awe-inspiring experience you'll want to soak in. Truly a must-visit spot in my opinion!

Murudeshwar Temple is one of the most breathtaking and spiritually enriching destinations in Karnataka. Located on the serene coast of the Arabian Sea in Uttara Kannada district, this temple is famous for housing the world’s second tallest statue of Lord Shiva, which is absolutely majestic and awe-inspiring. The temple complex is beautifully maintained and offers a unique combination of natural beauty and divine presence. The highlight, of course, is the massive Shiva statue, seated in a meditative posture atop a hill, overlooking the sea. The aura around the statue during sunrise and sunset is simply magical, and it makes for a surreal experience for both devotees and tourists. Another architectural marvel here is the Raja Gopura, a 20-storied tower that adds grandeur to the temple. Visitors can take a lift to the top floor for a panoramic view of the entire temple complex, the statue, and the surrounding sea. The view from the top is nothing short of spectacular and offers stunning photography opportunities. Cleanliness, parking, and basic facilities are well managed, though it can get crowded during weekends and festivals. You can go top of gopuram in lift. It’s 20rs ticket and a bit waiting queue. Wheel chair can also go in lift. REALY WORHT!!!

Get flabbergasted by one of it's type 18 storied Gopuram in Uttar Kannada. Uniqueness lies in the fact that you can simply go to the top floor of Gopuram to see amazing view of surrounding area. There is tiny fee of Rs 20 per person for elevator to the top. Capacity of 8 people per elevator. Total 2 elevators. Staff try little to manage the crowd at access gate & people make it super hard for everyone to wait in que. There are 2 floors at top which can be explored after getting out of lift. Entry to the main temple is through Gopuram only.
Ha J — Google review
Raja Gopura, which is absolutely magnificent — especially at night when sparkling colored lights light up the whole tower, it’s honestly a visual treat. The Gopura has a lift that goes up 18 floors, and from the top, you get a stunning view of the Shiva statue and the sea behind it.

Netrani Adventures offers an unforgettable experience on the stunning coral island of Netrani in the Arabian Gulf. This renowned tourist destination and pilgrimage town is known for its diverse marine life and silvery sands set against the backdrop of the Western Ghats. Operating since 2009, it's recommended to contact them directly to avoid overcharging by brokers.
It was my first time scuba diving, truly an amazing experience! The instructors were very patient and understanding. The hand signals were taught clearly. I saw many different species of fish, such as the Moorish Idol, bicolour parrotfish, Indian triggerfish, giant pufferfish and much more! Snorkels are also provided, but a deposit fee has to be paid (it's refundable). The boat ride to the island takes about 1 hr 30 min, but they provide snacks. The only extra charge is for videos. We received a 50% discount since it was a weekday.

For Video recording extra payment we need pay 5. They send 5 people in a group at one dive 6. After that you can enjoy swimming in the sea. 8. Around 4 you will be back... to office Save water save soil and save future

Best scuba diving at Murudeshwar, Karnataka, south India and India at an affordable price. Had a smooth experience with Netrani adventures. They take care of you end to end, just follow what all they say to have a delightful experience inside the sea. I don’t even know swimming but the way they instructed and facilitated the scuba dive was outstanding. Very well trained divers, and the dive point is just extraordinary. We tried goa in the past, but this is the best experience. 30-40 minutes for the dive. Its a whole day dive starting from 8 AM to 6 PM. Must try dive through Netrani. They are next to Temple and available on phone call too. Bonus, you get photos and videos too.

A very pleasant experience. The clarity was a little less at this time of the year but the crew was extremely helpful and guided us very well. It also included snorkelling which was pretty relaxing as well. The location is very beautiful, located near Netrani island off Murudeshwar beach. Definitely try it once
Lakshya G — Google review
The scuba diving experience is really good. They know their job well. They are very punctual about the timings. The equipments are exchanged between people hence it is advisable to carry your own snorkeling kit atleast. The room are not so clean. They don't provide toiletries. The food service is very slow and food isn't that good. Good for scuba but not for the stay.
Sahaj H — Google review
Very good experience and team is professional. Totally worth the money. I'll also advise ask for add-on dive after the first dive at a different diving spot (for which they'll charge extra but views are spectacular). Also it is PADI certified. Tarun and his team did make the whole experience great and you'll throught feel yourself in safe hands. You'll also get to snorkel around the boat for as much time as you want.
Ajit D — Google review
To start off, we were asked to report at 10am sharp, but were taken to a boat at 11.30am only. That was a very long wait. Then when we reached netrani island, we could not get snorkeling kit neither for our children nor for us. They were short of it and not everyone could get a snorkeling gear as they had conveniently overbooked. Then we were told that they had scuba diving glasses for +&- 3 power only to find out that too was unavailable. Then they make you change boats for scuba diving. This creates a lot of fuss getting out of water while you are swimming or snorkeling and shifting your belongings from one boat to another. The climb onto the boat is also not easy. The scuba diving team was amazing and takes great care of you and makes your experience a great memory underwater. Except for the scuba diving, everything else was horribly mismanaged and completely unprofessional. The boats were overcrowded. The snacks were not good.

Restaurant
Nayak Fishland, a seafood eatery in Murudeshwar, offers ample seating, a diverse menu selection, and satisfactory customer service despite its small size. However, accessing the handwashing facilities within the establishment may prove inconvenient. In the previous week alone, approximately ten patrons dined at Nayak Fishland and ordered an abundance of delectable seafood options along with Biriyani, chicken dishes, and egg-based delicacies.
"simple yet soulful food". Had ordered Open Bangda fry,Thali which came with white rice, fish curry, coconut powder, and kokum juice. Loved the Bangda open fry. Im actually surprised with negative comments, my experience there was great though. Nice and courteous staff, delicious food and affordable prices.

Super local place right outside the lane of Murudeshwara temple. It was quiet when we visited. I was very unsure about this place but it turned out to be lovely. The bangda fry was tasty and fresh. Same goes for the prawns koliwada, though it's important to note that the koliwada felt like it was made in Chinese style(we didn't mind). Prawns masala fry was juicy and tasty, we had it with butter garlic naan which also didn't disappoint. The biryani rice(just the rice and gravy without the meat) was absolute nonsense. Just skip it. The gravy they gave with the bangda and plain rice was way better. Considering the location, it's one of the best options for seafood. Don't expect much in the sense of ambience or cleanliness, go for the food.

Nayak Fish Land, Murudeshwar is quite popular and always crowded, probably due to all the positive reviews — but honestly, the food didn’t live up to the hype. The fish fry tasted half-cooked, and the other items in the thali were just average. For the price they charge, it really doesn’t feel worth it. There’s usually a long wait during peak hours, which can be avoided by choosing another nearby restaurant. It seems like this place is famous mainly for its fancy menu options, but overall, I wouldn’t visit again.

We around 10 people visited this hotel last week and we ordered Lot and lots of sea food, Biriyani, chicken and egg stuff Almost every dish ordered was good. Fish thali was average. But they have to be bit patience while taking and serving the orders

Naveen Beach Restaurant, located in a seaside hotel, boasts an exquisite dining room that offers a diverse selection of international dishes while providing breathtaking oceanic vistas. This establishment is an ideal spot to indulge in delectable snacks or meals during a visit to Murudeshwara. Patrons can enjoy spectacular views of the magnificent Shiva Statue and beach scenery from this eatery. The Pav Bhaji exceeded expectations with its exceptional taste, surpassing what was anticipated.
Food was really good . One of the best meals I had during my trip to Gokarna and Murudeswar. Prices are very reasonable and the view is great from the restaurant . This beach view restaurant is a must visit when you are in Murudeshwar. Must try !

We took only buttermilk, was nice and a water bottle View is awesome and feels like to just relax here by wonderful view offered from here and have juices like pineapple etc and also food items People visiting for the beach should carry portable carpet like to sit near by and enjoy beach view Boat ride with mangrove, lotus and Kerala view point is amazing and a must have experience , also cost for it is negotiable
Nishant K — Google review
Not worth. Can be skipped, staff seems bit rude. Giving one star only for the hotel location as it’s good to enjoy tea in evening from here watching sunset and beach if you get that chance. 😜
Amit D — Google review
While this establishment offers an exquisite seating arrangement with a breathtaking view of the sea, every other aspect—from the culinary offerings to the service—falls woefully short of what one might anticipate. Numerous items on the menu are not available, and those that are often disappoint in terms of flavor. Guests are encouraged to limit their orders to simple beverages such as lime soda or tea, and to savor the picturesque view quickly before making their exit. Unfortunately, the overall experience at this venue does not justify a visit and could easily be disregarded. Furthermore, the demeanor of the staff seems to lack warmth. A solitary star is awarded solely for its prime location, which provides a tranquil setting for enjoying tea in the evening, with a view of the sunset and beach, if one is fortunate enough to catch that moment.
Uttam T — Google review
In spite of so many years of existence, they are yet to improve taste & quality. Veg pulav was full of green peas, there was literally no rice in it. Idly, Dosa was bland and not good. Only good thing is the view, you can watch the waves and have average food with family.
Santosh B — Google review
Went to the restaurant only to give my son the first time experience of beach. But, the legacy of the restaurant of my childhood days is no more there. Only for the sake of the restaurant is on the beach - we went there. We will never come here again as service is bad. People who work here are rude and food is not good as well. Please don’t come to this restaurant.
Manjari G — Google review
It was bad. Really bad. The service . HORRIBLE. Like this server asked me to go upstairs so after I got up from the seat and went up they told me go down since there was no place. This repeated 4 times. I felt so enraged. And the place was so cramped. The people who stay at the hotel should have a separate area to eat from normal people right? That wasnt there. The food was so bad that even a dog could cook better. I never felt this disappointed in a restaurant.
Binal Y — Google review
I recently visited this hotel and had a very disappointing experience. The food quality was extremely poor, almost inedible, and the atmosphere felt very uncomfortable — like constant tension in the air. The staff was shockingly rude and even used abusive language when we tried to raise our concerns. On top of that, the prices are unreasonably high for such low standards. When we approached the owner, instead of resolving the issue politely, he reacted aggressively and started arguing. I would strongly advise others to think a hundred times before visiting this place. Totally unprofessional and not worth the money.

RNS Cafe is a popular restaurant located in Murudeshwar, offering stunning views of the Arabian Sea and the famous Shiva statue. The cafe serves a variety of mouth-watering South Indian vegetarian dishes and provides both air-conditioned and beachside seating options. While some visitors find the food to be average in taste, many appreciate the prime location and pleasant ambiance.
Ambience is great, peaceful and the place has a stunning sea side view. Prices are reasonable and good tasty food. The staff is very helpful. Only vegetarian options available here.

Everything was good. The food was awesome and price was reasonable. Not sure why the ratings are so low for this place. Very few good places in Murudeshwar and this is one of them. Highly recommended. Location is excellent. One can enjoy sea waves sitting on the table. Wide spread of menu but only vegetarian option due to temple premises.

This has good view... Go and enjoy the view don't buy anything or eat anything. Taste is average. Cleanliness is ok. They scam you by selling bottle of 20 at 30 and add gst on it.

Good food and decent service . Slightly premium cost as against other restaurants near by. Clean and neat washroom . You get a great view of shiva statue and the ocean at the front . The staff is cordial and accommodating. Takes order and serves all kinds of dishes like chat , continental, European and Indian cuisine . They have A/C and beach view option . If you are looking to enjoy with your family in peaceful environment overlooking sunset at one side , ocean at one end and shiva statue at other end then this is the palace to sit, relax and have light snack / dinner .

This is at the top of the hill. Just beside the Shiva statue. We went to eat there three times mostly for the view from that place with AC inside in the hotel. Cost for the food is pretty high. They serve tea and coffe in a kettle for two cups.

Rajen N — Google review
The Murudeshwar Temple Beach presents a truly stunning vista, with the immense Shiva statue and the grand gopuram serving as its captivating highlights. While the sandy expanse of the beach is remarkably clean, the large number of street vendors unfortunately results in subpar dust control. This makes walking barefoot uncomfortable and unsafe, as you'll encounter various debris like plastic covers and twigs. The beach is particularly scenic during the evening and morning hours. However, a word of caution: scorpions are known to be present on the shores in the mornings.

Wonderful beach to spend time with friends or family. Nearby the beach the big temple and lord Shiva temple is located. Atmosphere of the beach is superb. Boating is available. The view of the beach and it's Surrounding view is just amazing. You can get a low budget room to stay. Tiffin centre and small restaurant also available near the beach. A very calm place , you will be refreshing. A must visit place for vacation or weekend trip.

Nice, newly renovated hotel with friendly staff.. Rooms are clean and got all animities for the stay. Can order food via front desk and it was good. Beach was very close and temple is also near by. Overall enjoyed the stay...

Except for the location, nothing about this place is good. They charged us ₹3800 for non-AC rooms, which was not at all worth it. The pictures they WhatsApped to us looked alright, but once we arrived, we encountered a foul smell, broken taps, no hot water (despite their promise of availability between 6-7 am), inadequate wardrobes, and very poor service. Since we were booking at the last minute, unfortunately, this was the only hotel option left. And, of course, they insisted on full payment during check-in.
