Baumwipfelpfad Harz offers a unique experience for the whole family, featuring a 0.6-mile accessible wooden walkway that takes you through the treetops of the Harz forest landscape. The highlight is an 85-foot-high viewing platform providing stunning panoramic views. Visitors can combine this experience with a cable car ride and even a new zip line adventure to create a circular walk.
One of great ways to spend your whole day in the nature, with gondola ride and zip lining. It’s a great place specially for kids, there are lots of games for kids and a nice short 4d movie theatre!
Sakshi D — Google review
Go for the walk up, ride down option. No dogs allowed on the path, so my wife took our dog on the path below and met us at the other end. The Baumwipfelpfad itself is nice enough, not sure it’s entirely worth the fee. The rest of the hike up to Burgberg was was enough, great for our 4 and 6 year old.
Thomas K — Google review
If you are not scared of heights, you will love this place. You walk among the treetops
Marc L — Google review
Get a combi ticket along with cable car. Nice walk from top of the hill to this place. Kids love it. Also it has informational facts written on the board about nature, dinosaurs etc. to engage kids and grown ups too.
Rahul K — Google review
Very nice experience, we took the Bergbahn and reached the ride to the top, the cable car ride was like 3 to 5 minutes. On top you can enjoy the snow and being on top with nice scenary and of course there's a restaurant where you can have hot drinks and food. We had a lovely lunch. The staff was so friendly. We enjoyed the experience. You can buy a ticket only for the ride or add the treetop walk to it too and whatever else is available depends on the season.
Jumana A — Google review
Great walk for the whole family!
Stellah O — Google review
The ride in the cable car to the top and the Zipline back down was fun. However, the waiting time for your turn was a lot. We had to wait 45 mins for the cable car (lasted 3mins) and close to 1hr for the Zipline (lasted 6mins). The queue for the tickets wasn't too long, it was just the waiting time for your turn that took a while.
Aparajita P — Google review
Truly a beautiful and unforgettable experience! Currently because of the pandemic, we waited about 1.5 hours in line to buy tickets. Plan enough time for that.

Theme Parks
Märchenwald amusement park offers a delightful experience with its displays inspired by the Brothers Grimm fairytales, as well as a miniature railway, playground, and go-karts. The park's attractions exude an old-fashioned charm that creates a cozy environment particularly suited for children. Spending time at Märchenwald can easily occupy an entire day, making it challenging to convince young ones to leave.
This place is quite lovely! All attractions are old, but they make this park cozy for kids. We spent almost the whole day there, and it was quite hard to take my daughter home from there😂 It is not a Disney land, but the price is low, so you should manage your expectations.
Anatolii I — Google review
We decided to give it a try despite the 2.9-star review. It turned out to be worse than I expected. They don’t even seem to try! For example, they hadn’t cleaned the filthy, moldy bread piece from the toy train, they hadn’t replaced the burned-out bulb in the exhibition area, and there was a giant hole in the bouncy castle. My child started crying in the miniature area because of the dim lighting and ominous music. My friend even joked that it should be renamed ‘DDR Park. In conclusion, not worth to visit if u have anything else to do
Hari N — Google review
Don’t come here. The park is not maintained and half of the attractions are broken.
Lorenzo C — Google review
Fun place, especially to feed the goats :) but it's old and everything is falling apart. Although the restaurant is new and so is the playground, but the rest is very old. Rapunzel even had a broken arm.
Peter D — Google review
German fairy tales are most likely the darkest and most disturbing. Therefore it comes as no surprise that this little theme park might be too twisted for children at least to some extent. The horror begins when you have tobpay the ridiculously overpriced entrance fee. They don't accept any payments by card, a quite Common thing in Germany. Once you've entered you're welcomed by a model display of the Harz mountains. Don't press any buttons because the model railways don't work but instead some creepy creatures that will scare the s*** out of your little ones and you. And it gets worse. Just pass by the fairy tale displays unless you want to make your children cry. There're some rides and attractions but most of them are in a bad condition and may pose a risk to your children. My daughter loved the bouncy castle which seemed to be quite new and the petting zoo. There's definitely some room for improvement with regard to the cleanliness of the petting zoo areas. We won't go there again and I wouldn't recommend the fairy tale theme park either.
Bob S — Google review
1. Train is not running by default. You have to explicitly request someone to fix it. 2. There is nothing for adults here, still they have to pay eur 6 and eur 7 for kids. 3. After 30min, kids run out of all options. It is not interesting. Instead go to public park 300mts away, that is free better than this one. I regret to give negative comment but this is what it is
Mani C — Google review
Park needs some heaving maintenance, kids enjoyed the few attraction that were open, like the playground, feeding the goats. Not worth the 18 Euros in my opinion.
Georg K — Google review
Nice little park, bit dated, but still loads of fun for the kids. Besides the fairy tale boxes, they also enjoyed the petting zoo, the playground, and the little train.

(Translated by Google) Wow, what a beautiful, interactive exhibition! I particularly liked that the children were able to explore the exhibition completely on their own. This means that everyone can go through the exhibition at their own pace. I find the accessibility and the cost factor particularly worth mentioning (children free, adults €5, with a guest card even just €2.50). So it is really possible for almost every family to view this wonderful exhibition. We managed the exhibition very well in 1.5 hours.

(Translated by Google) Rather small on the outside, and also on the inside, but full of information. And it's packaged really coolly. For me, the House of Nature is one of the best exhibitions I've seen. It's well-presented for children, and adults also walk away with information they probably didn't know. Actually, it was a substitution for our family because it had been raining terribly. But we would have really missed out. Highly recommended, and great praise goes to the museum educators who set up this exhibition. And last but not least, a big thank you to the friendly waitress who made it perfect for the 18 of us. Thank you! Danke!

Mountain cable car
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Burgberg Cable Car, constructed in 1929 by the Bleichert engineering corporation, ascends to the summit of Großer Burgberg hilltop. With a length of 481 meters, this cable car transports up to 18 people per gondola in just three minutes. It provides an effortless alternative to hiking and offers breathtaking panoramic views of Bad Harzburg, the nearby mountains, and the expansive Harz foothills. Despite personal preferences regarding heights, many visitors find enjoyment in this ride.
Must visit while you are in bad harzburg. Also its near the main road, you can spend 3-4 hours easily while on your way to other cities. Parking: Enough space available next to the park and also on other side of the road. (50 cents for 30mins)
Rahul K — Google review
Convenient transport to go up higher. For adults 5 euros round trip, but my husband and I took only there for 3.50 to walk back. Only two carriages so you have to wait in a queue first for tickets and then for the cable car itself. But it's nice.
Google review
A bit of an adventure to more modern cable railways but the staff is friendly and it's a quick way to get up or down.
Manfred W — Google review
We waited 1.5 hours in a queue on Sunday. It is an old fashioned lift with a low throughput, not enough for so many people.
Sergey T — Google review
Very nice ride. The tree tower had a glass floor which makes me shiver.
Gustav A — Google review
A nice and not so expensive place if you want see the top view and hike down or just go enjoy the view and come down.
Ziauddin R — Google review
Short ride up with the cable car. The view from the top is good, but not great, and the walk back is not worth writing about. However, we can recommend buying the combo-ticket, so you can walk on the Baumwipfelfad on your way back.

The Burgberg Cable Car was built in 1929 by the Bleichert engineering corporation and has a length of 481 metres. Up to 18 people per gondola lift the cable car to the summit in three minutes and for a minimal fee is much easier than hiking up to the summit. You will have an impressive view of Bad Harzburg, the surrounding mountains and the vast Harz foothills. Although I am not a fan of heights, I enjoyed the ride. Cheers!

Very cool place, fun, you can get there on foot and by cable car. Not scary at all, although it looks a bit like that. Allowed for people weighing no more than 100kg ( with belongings) . The price is 14 euros for an adult. There was almost no queue, everything moves quickly. The descent itself is 5-7 minutes, but the experience is very interesting. It is also accessible for children. The descent is possible with your belongings (bag), you don't need to leave them anywhere. After the descent you can continue your walk through the forest or on a special bridge (buy tickets in advance).
Google review
It was really worth it. Although it took us around 1 hour of waiting as it was a holiday and a summer afternoon, the view and experience was top notch. People working there were also very friendly and had good temperament despite many people queuing up.
Purandhar C — Google review
I recommend going there earlier, I had to wait for an hour to take it
Nataliya D — Google review
It's an amazing experience riding through the trees. I visited at the end of autumn. So as beautiful as the mid of autumn. Ticket price per adult is 15 euro. Tickets can be purchased at the counter.
Ayodhya P — Google review
Loved it! I was so anxious before I started but it was fun! The ride itself was so smooth, not too fast. Gave a thrill to be so high amongst the trees. My feet skimmed the leaves and some branches up top! We might go again this trip!! And might even let go and free my hands 😮 One guy helping people onto it was so friendly and that helped calm me down. Saw him talk softly and gently to a very young child who was very nervous.
Annapoorna R — Google review
Amazing experience! A little but is, that they should let you know that the swing will twist alot while going down the hill. Felt unsafe when I haven't heard anything about it. But a beautiful and unique trip for sure!

Whether you're looking for typical Harz cuisine or innovative burger creations, this restaurant has something to offer. Additionally, they serve refreshing beverages such as Bad Harzburger Schorlen.
We enjoyed the food there... some things, like the sauces, are a bit different, but worth to try for sure... the service is friendly and fast and this place has a little terrace outside with a nice view at a mountain, that makes you feel relaxed...

Nice service and a thumb up for vegan/vegetarian options. The tastiest part of my meal was the salad and the briosch bun in which I got the burger. The patty (camembert and vegan) were not so awesome, sauces also weren't that great. Make sure you try the salad with bread chips, it's very good.
Alicja B — Google review
Definitely a great place if you are craving burgers and fries! They also have other Harz-specials, the menu is quite diverse which is nice :) Good food good mood 👍🏽
Eva O — Google review
Exactly what you could expect of a good burger place. Perfect fries, original burger recipes well executed within a fast time. A little cramped due to the location and staff was a mix of excellent to seemingly disinterested. For people not fluent in German, the menu does take a little extra challenge, but unless you are picky or have dietary requirements, just pick a burger and enjoy!
Martin R — Google review
It's sure, a lovely place. The food is delicious and not too expansive. Also, the staff can speak English, and they have an English menu + vegetarian menu.

Great place to eat while in Bad Harzburg. The restaurant is very cosy and, eventhough, our big group arrived almost when the kitchen was closing, they made sure we could get our plates. The burgers are big and tasty and come with a lot of fries and a very nice sauce. They have many other options on the menu. It is also a great price wise. The staff was amazingly friendly. I would definitely recommend it.

Very fitting for the Harz Mountains, I'd say. The breakfast buffet was delicious, and we were immediately provided with a highchair upon request. The thermal baths, which were included in the price, were also lovely—a bit tucked away, but well-signposted. All in all, a great experience. (Original) Wir waren hier 2 Tage zu Gast. (Translated by Google) This is my third time staying at the Tannenhof. I stayed in a standard single room twice. They're rather old-fashioned and showing their age, but they're incredibly comfortable and clean, and the beds are perfect; I sleep soooo well! Once I had a deluxe double room, which was super modern and completely new, but correspondingly more expensive. For what you get for the price (today, €107 including breakfast and spa entry), the hotel is truly top-notch. When I read such negative reviews here: It always depends on what I expect, of course. The spa isn't ultra-modern or huge, but it has everything you need for a great girls' weekend. I also really enjoyed the breakfast every time. The breakfast room has also been renovated and is modern and cozy.

Restaurant
Hexenklause is a cozy, old-world restaurant in Bad Harzburg that offers a variety of dishes including steaks, schnitzels, and roast dinners. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. It's a popular choice among locals and visitors alike. With its inviting ambiance and delicious food options, Hexenklause provides a delightful dining experience for anyone looking to enjoy hearty meals in a charming setting.
The choice of this restaurant was random. The owners couple were very friendly and lovely people. Wonderful aura in this restaurant. Amazingly delicious coffee. Huge and very tasty schnitzel. Unforgettable mushroom sauce and soup. Acceptable prices. Thanks for all. May God bless the owners of this restaurant and increase their income for their responsiveness and kindness.

We ate at the Hexenklause and we had a very nice meal! We had two schnitzels (one with pfifferlingen and one ordinary). They tasted great and the garnish was good. We could have liked more salad. Everything is fresh and is prepared with care. The staff is nice and they created a family like atmosphere. The waiters were attentive. The drinks are great - especially the Lillet Berry. Prices are very fair and we ate 2 people for 61€ with drinks and water included.

Sooo we've been waiting more than an hour for our food. It will be tasty only if it will be cooked properly. Note for lady owner (I think she was the owner) the chicken and pig meat can't be "pink" served!!! At least we paid only for food, we get discount for all our drinks. I don't think I will ever come back there. Really pity because it is a perfect place to eat and big plus for young gay who did really good work there. P.S. cobwebs need to be clean in allover the place!! Dust and sticky menu cards are also not really welcome. Edit: The owner deleted my opinion from Google after she abused me. nice

Made reservation two days in advance for a party of 2. When we arrived we were informed they wanted to seat us with another party. When we declined they wanted to seat us inside (it had been 30°C that day) we decided to find food elsewhere. Would be less of an issue had we been informed while booking.
Sebastiaan B — Google review
Nice location but food was very disappointing and no where near the standards set by German restaurants we've experienced on many visits. The venison was extremely tough but one of our group was served a dish where the meat was cold and when pointed out to the staff it was taken away in the hope it would be replaced. It did return but unfortunately it had only been heated up which included the sides such as the lettuce and radish! Felt sorry for the waiting staff who had been let down by the kitchen badly. We were offered 5 euros off the bill!

One of the best restaurant I've ever been. It's the same vibe like in a Michelin Restaurant. We had a fantastic huge wood table in a separate room, and all the dishes were fabulous. The Chef come to meet us and the end of experience.

Is it a very nice location, with a nice personal. We make a reservation with 1 our before and we didn’t aspect that is a chance to receive a table but is happening. We have a dinner in a very nice place, very clean and quiet. The food was nice presented and tasty. The only one think is that the portion are to small and to expensive and I think that it’s is the reason that this restaurant don’t have so many customers. You will understand more from the photos, that lamm rips have us 33€ costed. We enjoy the experience there and the food but after is it hard to think that we are choose again to eat there not because of the food only because of the price and quantity of the portion.

Great place in the middle of the Hartz to enjoy a good time. However the food quality was not on the same level as the prices. I would like to give them another chance because the service was very kind and the environment was also perfect.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful ambience! Beautifully set tables, very tasty, down-to-earth regional food. Price-performance fits. We were there on Sunday lunchtime and were served very friendly. The only negative is the slightly strange chef's elevator and the toilets (one clogged, no dry towels). You can improve that! (Original) Wunderschönes Ambiente! Toll gedeckte Tische, sehr leckeres bodenständiges regionales Essen. Preis-Leistung passt.

An absolutely exquisite dining experience. 100% worth a detour. I enjoyed Scallops and Caviar, as my friend had had the maize chicken over risoto. I can not stress how clean and delicious the food tasted. Our server Ute was extremely charming and pleasant and did not allow our wine glasses to go empty. We are weary travelers, and we will go to sleep with bellies full like kings.

Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Kur Park, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Jungbrunnen. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

State park
Kur Park is located just 13 kilometers south of Bad Harzburg, near the Kurpark and the Burgberg. It offers a challenging hiking trail to the highest peak of the Harz Mountains and through the national park. The path, marked with a little devil symbol, presents a demanding hike with an altitude difference of 950 meters. Along the way, hikers can admire the Etter cliffs and visit the whey house where wild animal feeding attracts many visitors.
Just beautiful. If you ever visit Bad Harzburg you just need to visit Kur Park. It's in the city center, a lot of restaurants and cafe's are near, the park is big so you have a lot of space to visit. Coming again!

But it's not a problem for people who aren't lazy on their feet. The cable car is quicker and easier. When the weather is nice, you can spend a lot of time in the queue. Today there were probably 70 people. In that time you have already walked up. :) Above you can see the Canossa column, the curtain wall, the old well, a tower and other remains of the ruins. Many information boards tell interesting facts about the history. The view is wonderful when the weather is nice. If you are on the hunt for the Harz hiking badge, you will find a stamp office here. Plumbohms Aussichtsreich Guesthouse on the Burgberg is a charming guesthouse located on a hill in Bad Harzburg, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the town and its surroundings. Situated in a national park, it is conveniently close to local attractions such as the Burgberg Cable Car and Bad Harzburger Sole-Therme. Guests can enjoy the terrace, garden, and complimentary wireless internet access.
This is a rating for the food, not the rooms as we didn't stay here. The food was great, simple dishes prepared very well and very well sourced. They even had a chicken liver frozen yogurt treat for dogs. Our puppy liked it very much and was busy for a while. Service was extremely slow on our visit but they were probably not expecting so many visitors on a rainy day. My little cake was a bit spongy for my taste but everyone else loved theirs. The coffee is great if you are going for classic filter coffee. I do not recommend the espresso, it's basically just a higher dosed filter coffee.

Stopped by the restaurant for lunch and ice cream. Delicious mains (the Pea Soup was delicious), ice cream and drinks for a party of 8 came out at around €25/head. Very reasonable given the excellent location and fantastic staff
Thomas K — Google review
In summary: they give me a phone call to warn me that check in was closing at 3:30 pm !!!! We arrive at 6 pm then, they send me an email with a code to pick up the key without telling me that the hotel was unreachable by car and that all transportation services were unavailable (on Sundays in Bad Harzburg it is strictly forbidden to do anything that reminds one of a job or decent service for hotel guests). After several unsuccessful phone calls and an hour's walk with our luggage, a lady deigns to answer the phone and after several insistence and phone calls directs us to return with all the luggage to our starting point to find a solution. Upon arrival I complain about the treatment and in response the lady instead of apologizing, tells me it is my fault because I arrived too late, at 6 pm.A bunch of clowns or incompetents, I don't know. In any case I suggest to stay away from this place.

Absolutely stunning location, high on top of the mountain. Witnessing the ocean of fog in the valleys and northern plains from up above is really something special. However, the Hotel is not matching the scenic nature, sadly. Rooms are really expensive for what they offer (paid over 200€ as a couple for one night). The rooms were tidy, but a bit worn out. The breakfast would have benefitted from overall larger quantities, and nore generous opening times for the bar would be nice (was closed by 8). And then there is a slight problem with "Bad" Harzburg: it is just not a nice location. The city itself is really ugly. Verdict: OK, but not worth the price.

Wonderful place! The star normally lost for being a bit too pricey is regained by the stunning view and the Altenauer Beer. It could offer a few more attractions for kids (what a great location for a big swing) and a view snacks on the normal menu. But apart from that it's very well done. A lot of lovely and often humorous details and have I already mentioned the view and the great local beer?

Update may 2025. It is very unfortunate that I still (after so long time) receive complaints about my review and that maybe will be delete. I was there. I have the picture of the receipt. I understand that the owner is very unhappy about my review. I totally get it but it doesn't change anything. I just hope that they will use this review as something constructive, and a possibility to make things better. Yes, other people might have better experiences, I'm not the only customer, but I won't change my opinion cause that was what I felt about my visit there. Maybe there is a new owner - I wouldn't know. This is still years ago and other people who read my review have to keep that in mind. Zero stars if possible. A very old servant who barely couldn’t stand on his feed without swaying. He ‘hit’ my hair/back of my head when he walked behind me, and not even apologizing. I don’t think he intercepted it! The gullasch tasted ok, but it was nothing like true Hungarian gullasch. Tomato soup my boyfriend had was awful. It was dry ready-made rye-wannabe bread. They forgot to serve salat for the steak, so we had to ask for it. First and only time to eat there.

A clean a pleasent place in the middle of a lovely garden. The servic was ok, and food came quite fast. The taste was ok, bot something to fancy but some liked and some was ok.

I visited this Italian restaurant with my husband, and we both ordered the Vegetarian Pizza based on the Google images. However, we waited for nearly an hour while other customers who arrived after us and ordered pizzas as well received their orders promptly. When our order finally arrived, it turned out to be the Anchovy Pizza instead!! We were frustrated and explained the mistake, but they claimed that we had ordered the wrong pizzas!!!! Not only was the service slow and inattentive, but we also noticed a discrepancy in how they treated different customers. We hope the restaurant takes our feedback seriously and addresses these issues for better customer experiences in the future. EDIT: As a reply to the owner's reply, It is important to note that I got angry (but I didn't slam the cola on the table!) due to the fact that they were not honest about the situation. They did not communicate that their colleague had failed to place our order and were instead falsely stating that we had ordered the Anchovy Pizza, when in fact, our order was for the Vegetarian Pizza. Being transparent and truthful with customers is crucial for maintaining trust and a positive experience.
