Shopping mall
Shopping
Gurney Plaza is a modern shopping complex located in the popular Gurney Drive promenade in Penang. Situated about three kilometers northwest of Georgetown, it stands as one of the largest and most prominent malls on the island. With nine floors of retail space, this destination offers an array of shops ranging from clothing and electronics to accessories. Additionally, visitors can enjoy various dining options including Cara Caro Cafe, The Sugar Tang, and MiniMelts ice cream.
Looking for a nice place to cool down after roaming around Penang? Then come to Gurney Plaza for a cooling and fun shopping experience. Even if you are not looking for stuff or just window shopping, this is the place to be. Don’t forget to try the food variety at the lower ground floor

This is one of the most popular shopping mall in Penang. It has been around for a long time, yet it is still very popular now. The mall is well maintained and received constant upgrades to enhance it's competitive edge. It has an advantage over larger mall where you don't have to walk too long distance to get something.
Swee L — Google review
A vibrant and well-designed mall that truly comes alive on weekends. From shopping to fine dining, everything you need is conveniently located under one roof. The basement food hall offers an impressive range of cuisines — perfect for dinner after a day of browsing the shops. Don’t miss the cinema on the top floor for a relaxing movie experience to end your visit. A well-rounded destination for both locals and travelers alike.
Kaja S — Google review
Gurney Plaza is one of the best shopping malls in Penang — modern, clean, and filled with a great variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options. From luxury brands to local boutiques, there’s something for everyone. The cinema, cafés, and dining spots offer a comfortable place to relax, and the seafront location gives it a nice breeze and scenic view. The mall is well-maintained with friendly staff and convenient parking. Whether you’re shopping, catching a movie, or enjoying local food nearby, Gurney Plaza delivers an excellent experience every time. Definitely a must-visit destination when in Penang!

The Right Place for Dining (Visited on 8-11 September 2025) The interior of Plaza Gurney might seem dated (the mall had exist for more than 20 years), but in term of tenants that occupied the retail space were competitive enough to complete with newer mall. Many popular retail brands can be found at here. Some of the brands were luxury brands. The most favorite part was the F&B tenants. Plaza Gurney had plenty choice of F&B tenants, including the food court. The cuisine selection were very diverse, from Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian, Peranakan, and Western. Pretty sure for some people would be overwhelmed with the varieties of the tenants. The writer ended up visited Plaza Gurney solely for had dining at there. Highly recommended for those are seeking mall for dining.
Handi S — Google review
It’s a really nice mall and not too crowded, especially on Mondays. We enjoyed some shopping here since you can find almost anything you need under one roof. The food hall is also a great spot to grab dinner, offering plenty of cuisine choices to suit different tastes.

You can shop, window shop, hunt for food, chill at teashops, or even catch a movie date, all in one place. Unlike the other malls, this one sits right in George Town, surrounded by the city’s charm and tourist vibes. A great spot to hang out, relax, and enjoy everything from shopping to good food without leaving the heart of town.

Shopping mall
Shopping
Gurney Paragon Mall in Penang is a haven for fashion enthusiasts and beauty aficionados, offering a wide array of upscale makeup, perfumes, skincare products, and designer labels. Situated by the serene sea with St. Joseph's Novitiate chapel nearby, the mall boasts an impressive lineup of top brand outlets, chic boutiques, trendy salons, an IMAX movie theatre, and outdoor dining spots.
Gurney Paragon Mall – Penang This is one of the more upscale malls in Penang, and it has a very modern and spacious design with high ceilings and plenty of natural light, which makes walking around quite pleasant. 🛍️ Shopping & Stores The mall leans more toward premium and lifestyle brands, including fashion, beauty, and skincare. If you’re looking for high-end retail, perfumes, or makeup, this is one of the better spots in Penang. There are also a good mix of restaurants, cafés, and dessert places scattered across different levels. 🍴 Food & Dining While it doesn’t have as large a food court as some other malls (like Gurney Plaza next door), the dining options here are carefully curated. You’ll find a nice selection of international cuisines, as well as trendy cafés for coffee and desserts. 🎭 Atmosphere & Events The mall often hosts seasonal decorations and events — for example, the photo shows a festive setup near the central atrium. The wide open space in the middle makes it a good venue for exhibitions, promotions, and cultural shows. 🚗 Accessibility The mall is wheelchair accessible, with wide walkways and elevators. Parking is available but can get busy during weekends, so weekdays are more comfortable if you prefer a quieter experience. ✨ Overall Compared to Gurney Plaza, which is more crowded and caters to a wider range of budgets, Gurney Paragon feels a bit more refined and spacious, making it a good place if you prefer a calmer shopping experience with premium brands.
Hayan . — Google review
Gurney Paragon Mall blends modern shopping with heritage charm, offering a spacious layout and a unique architectural experience. The selection of stores and dining options is decent, though some areas feel underutilized due to vacant units. Overall, it’s a pleasant place for a relaxed visit, especially if you enjoy quieter malls with character.
Manoj K — Google review
Gurney Paragon Mall is clean, big, and spacious. It has a good number of shops but unfortunately I find it lacking in terms of varieties. For example, there is no pet shop here. There are pharmacies and while the Caring Pharmacy is decent in terms of varieties and stocks, the popular chain like Watson and Guardian are lackluster. Having said there, there are other shops like Decathlon experience, various sport shops, even a golf arena, eletronic shop like Harvey Norman, supermarket, H&M, phone shop, food court, music shop, etc. The escalator near the entrance was broken when I visited and the mall was empty but it was weekday. I remember it being slightly more crowded on my other visit. The directory of this mall should be improved, as it's hard to know what it has to offer and navigate. It should be something basic.
Buren — Google review
Gurney Paragon Mall in Penang is a modern shopping destination that seamlessly blends heritage with contemporary design. The mall is built around the historic St. Jo’s building, adding a unique charm to its ambiance. With a wide range of high-end boutiques, international brands, and local stores, it caters to diverse shopping preferences. The dining options are impressive, featuring everything from casual eateries to fine dining restaurants. The food court offers a variety of cuisines at reasonable prices. Additionally, the mall hosts regular events and promotions, making each visit exciting. The spacious layout and clean environment enhance the shopping experience, while the friendly staff provide excellent customer service. Whether you’re looking to shop, dine, or simply relax, Gurney Paragon Mall offers a delightful experience for all visitors.
MOHAMMAD S — Google review
Not a bad mall. Plenty of brands and a decathlon plus a good market and grocery downstairs.
Andrew D — Google review
Good place for shoppers quiet peaceful mall , not crowded. must come and experience it. lots of thing to do .
Hafiz Z — Google review
This is a huge mall with a lot of eateries and shops. Came here for an early lunch and a walk around the place. ended up spending almost 3 hrs here for shopping and multiple makan. its also the home of the shortest escalator. :-)
Keng L — Google review
Gurney Paragon Mall is located just next to Gurney Plaza within walking distance. It is a medium size mall and considered a quiet mall even during the weekend. There are some restaurants and cafes located around the spacious entrance of the mall. The decathlon sports shop located inside the mall is quite big and there are some boutiques at the mall. Overall recommended for a quick window shopping.

Hawker center
New World Park in George Town, Penang is a vibrant open-air spot featuring over 80 street-food stalls and regular entertainment. It's a popular food court that offers a wide variety of dishes, including the famous Lemak laksa. The park has transformed from an old amusement park into a bustling food court with enticing aromas and delicious offerings. Visitors can enjoy indoor and outdoor seating while indulging in artisanal pastries at Sin Seh Kai Artisan Bakery within the park premises.
A perfect spot to try local dishes. The service is fast and straightforward: you order, take a seat, and the food is brought to your table in no time. There’s a huge variety, so the best thing to do is go hungry and just try everything that looks good.
Jairo C — Google review
Nice cool and airy hawker centre. Came on a Saturday night at 6 30pm and it was very empty with plenty of seats. It's very clean and airy with good ventilation. We had the CKT RM8 and Oyster Omelette RM16 both were very clean and not greasy. Missing some wok hei but not bad.
Kaylee K — Google review
Touristy, pricey and rather average. Everything we ordered was just acceptable. Nothing like the real authentic Penang standard. The hawkers here are playing a most dreadful game of skimping. The pasembur was practically a salad—all sengkuang and cucumbers, with hardly a kuih to be found. And the CKT They've cut the lap cheong into these sad little slivers and forgotten the greens altogether. You can find better in KL. The fishball soup was also a let down. BUT the ice kacang was a genuine marvel! Absolutely perfect. So, while the rest was quite a letdown, that little bowl of ice made the whole trip rather worth it.
Yeong — Google review
Great hawker center with plenty of options. There is a separate lineup for the drinks and each table has a number and when you order your food, you give the Hawker your number and they bring it to you. The highlight for us was the amazing Cha Koay Teow. We also had roast pork and chicken rice as well as the curry mee. We enjoyed the Portuguese style tarts from the pastry cart for dessert. The iced deserts were good too. Overall a great low cost family meal/culinary adventure.
Michael G — Google review
Notable stalls & dishes: 1. Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng - must add lots of sotong & sotong gravy 2. Hokkien Prawn Mee - must have lots of chillies to bring out the aroma of the broth. 3. Fried Chicken The food court is clean & spacious, ample seating, airy & good ventilation. Most are s lf service stalls. Beverage is also self service and tbh, it's on a higher price. A jumbo juice is around RM14. The Lor Bak stall used to be my favourite but guess the prawn fritters quality and taste deteriorated. Other than these, the other stalls are just average.
Lay O — Google review
Newly renovated food court with many stalls. Plenty of under shade with many fans. Well ventilated. Great for big groups.

Nyonya restaurant
Ivy's Nyonya Cuisine is a charming restaurant located in the heart of Georgetown, Penang. Housed in a pre-war converted house, this eatery has recently been recognized with a Michelin Bib Gourmand status. The kitchen is led by Ivy herself, while her husband manages the front of the house.
Ivy’s Nyonya Cuisine is a hidden gem in Penang, earning its well-deserved Michelin Bib Gourmand 2025 for serving exceptional Peranakan food in a warm, homely setting. Housed in a traditional shophouse, the restaurant has a simple yet charming decor, filled with nostalgic Nyonya-era touches that enhance the authentic dining experience. What makes Ivy’s stand out is not just the food but also the hospitality. The husband-and-wife team runs the place with passion—the chef prepares each dish with care, while her husband, an enthusiastic and friendly host, takes the time to explain the dishes and their cultural significance. His warmth adds a personal touch that makes the meal even more memorable. We ordered a variety of dishes, and each one was delicious—rich in flavor, perfectly balanced, and true to traditional Nyonya cooking. From the aromatic fried chicken to the tangy Asam fish and the fragrant Otak-Otak, everything was executed with skill and authenticity. This is a must-visit for anyone seeking genuine Peranakan cuisine in a welcoming, family-run environment. The combination of outstanding food, heritage ambiance, and heartfelt service makes Ivy’s a standout in Penang’s culinary scene. Exceptional food, warm service, and a true taste of Nyonya heritage.

We arrived after the lunch rush and didn’t need to wait for a table. We opted for the 2 person set menu and enjoyed everything. Service was great! Very child friendly- bowl/cutlery, high chairs, and even a diaper changing station in the bathroom area. Overall- it wasn’t my favorite meal in Penang but definitely pretty good!
Jessica — Google review
First visit here and already in love! ❤️ Came just before their break time, yet the staff served us with such warmth and kindness. The food? Absolutely incredible. The sambal udang was delicious, though I think it could be a bit less wet to be perfect. No doubt I’ll be back for more! Highly recommend!
Jacqueline O — Google review
We saw as we walked in the restaurant that this place is in the Michelin Bib Gourmand 2025 list and they did not disappoint. The menu are all main dishes meant to be shared. The small size would typically be shared between 2-3 people with rice. Most of the dishes are excellent and some of our favourites were the chicken Kapitan (crispy and juicy), kangkung sambal, sambal prawn Petai and the lobak. Service is very accommodating as we came with four little kids. The place has this traditional peranakan vibe but a little small. Food - 9 Service - 9 Vibe - 7 Price - $$$
Edwar K — Google review
The food was absolutely delicious! We went there for dinner today and ordered the set for 4 pax — the portions were incredibly generous, and we even got treated to two cups of their amazing coffee. We’d definitely love to go back for another meal if time permits before heading back to Singapore.
Barbara C — Google review
Plentiful selection. Since there was only the two of us, we just ordered the set meal. It was DELICIOUS, especially the assam fish *chef’s kiss*. Perfection. We ended up taking away the dessert as we were too full. The next time I come to Penang, I would definitely pay this restaurant another visit.
Hii W — Google review
Delicious Nyonya cuisine in family run restaurant. It’s usually difficult to enjoy this cuisine when you have 2 pax, i was drawn here as I saw some patrons posting their set menu for 2 people @ RM90 before tax. Everything was cooked to perfection, we could tell a lot of thought went into perfecting these dishes. And from the way the owner(?) described the dishes we could tell they had a lot of pride in their food. Special shoutout to the otak (very pleasant texture that melts in your mouth) and the black glutinous rice dessert (i could taste some additional flavours in there, possibly from the longan? We couldn’t get enough of this!). The juhuchar was surprisingly flavourful, with an umami taste that we don’t usually get in this dish. Our only complaints was, we wish we could have customised the chicken part served. Not really a fan of drummet or thigh. When we asked the service staff if we could change, he didn’t really seem to understand our request. The robot server was an unlikely but welcome surprise 🤣 Nonetheless the service staff was attentive from the moment we walked in right till the end, making us feel like celebrities. Will definitely recommend this place to others 👌
CW W — Google review
We made a booking at 6.30 but didn’t get our table till 7.10 pm (?!?). We even arrived on time. Service was very friendly, the guy even came to our table multiple times to check on how we are. We did the set menu RM 175? for 4 ppl. Portion sizes were small and we had to order more. The assam fish was a bit watery but overall the food was good. I would rate the food as 3/5 but service was 5/5.

Gurney Drive Hawker Centre, situated on the seafront in George Town, Penang, Malaysia, is a renowned street food hub offering a diverse range of local delicacies. This popular promenade has been recognized as one of the world's top 25 streets to visit by The Traveler magazine.
Foods was good. Gurney Drive stalls are a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy Penang's iconic street food scene.

Everything is about average.. if you know which store is good then maybe food is decent.. if you pick the wrong one.. maybe not as good as penang has pretty high standards.. honestly I would come for convenience but not purposefully. The stretch is long and you have many vendors of each food to choose from.
Kenneth T — Google review
Tried both 71 (no lard) and 107 char okay teow side by side. My brother prefer 71 while I prefer 107 so it's really up to personal preference. Both has wok hey, might not be the best plate of ckt in penang but better than most ckt outside penang. We also had assam laksa (quite decent) , popiah (portion abit small, 1 serving only 3 pieces) and pasembur which turn out to be a very huge plate of savory rojak.
Yvonne Y — Google review
Came here for dinner. It’s definitely crowded during my visit on weekend. Tried the ikan bakar which was fresh and tasty 9/10. Satay 4/10. Kuey teow 7.5/10. Asam laksa 6/10. Oyster cake 6/10. The prices of the food are okay but the drinks are slightly pricy. The food has be ordered and take on your own when it’s done. After you ordered do not forget to take your food. Will definitely come again for the ikan bakar and try other food as well.

The char mee tai bak with duck egg at gurney drive is great! Penang Hokkien prawn mee is decent and the satay at the halal section is delicious as well but mutton is very overpriced at 5rm per stick.
Daryl C — Google review
Visited in Nov 2024. Had the duck egg fried kuay teow, duck egg oyster omelette, malay satay, nasi lemak kukis cilibilis, fried chicken drumstick, and Aiyu lychee drinks. Generally above average. Fairly priced. The meal average a 2.8/5

Came on a Saturday. Terrible jam around the area and you can definitely get better food elsewhere. The 71 char koay teow was average, got misled by the queue.. No wok hey, plain taste but ingredients compensated with 4 prawns. The satay pork was dry and lean. Maybe the good stalls were closed.

This place has a lot of different food options. It's pretty packed in here right now. Finding a table might be a challenge. I'd recommend coming a bit earlier next time. Hopefully, it'll be less crowded then.

Cafe
China House, located in George Town, is a long shophouse that has played a significant role in the gentrification of the area. Managed by Narelle McMurtrie, it stands out as one of the most famous Western-styled bistros in George Town. The place offers a variety of dining options and an impressive selection of signature cakes. The historic city center where China House is situated reflects a multicultural heritage originating from trade routes between various regions.
One bold word: OVERPRICE. Chinahouse is undeniably a charming and artsy spot in George Town, perfect for hanging out or getting a little creative on their white canvas-covered tables — yes, you can doodle while you sip! The place has plenty of space and a unique vibe, with an inviting ambiance that’s great for chilling with friends. We ordered two slices of cake — the Tiramisu with alcohol and a gluten-free orange cake, paired with a small hot coffee and an iced chocolate. The total? Around RM87, which definitely made us raise an eyebrow. It’s steep, especially for casual dessert and drinks. That said, the Tiramisu was fantastic, especially if you enjoy the boozy kick. The orange cake was decent, but nothing too special. The garden porch at the back seemed a bit abandoned, which was a slight letdown, though the overall vibe of the place remained pleasant. Despite the price, we had a good experience and appreciated the friendly hospitality. Final thoughts? If you’re a die-hard Tiramisu lover, it’s worth a try — but be prepared to pay a premium. Still, a lovely spot for the occasional treat.
Marina G — Google review
Service was so-so, chill vibes and the place felt a bit narrow and packed. Interior is very rustic which suits the shop name. It was crowded but the shop opens late, making it a great dessert or supper spot since the menu is of variety. Ordered the signature tiramisu cake which look quite big and tastes not bad. The matcha latte was good too. The best part is being able to draw on the tables (crayons are given) which made the experience really fun. Food was fine and the price was unsurprisingly expensive but overall it is worth visiting for the unique experience and considering the time it opens for too!

I had high hopes for this cafe, but unfortunately, my experience left a lot to be desired. First off, the service was incredibly slow. I waited over 20 minutes for a coffee. The staff didn’t seem very engaged, and it was clear they weren’t prioritizing customers. The coffee, which I was expecting to be the highlight, was lukewarm and bland. For a place that prides itself on its brews, this was a major letdown. The ambiance was also disappointing. The seating was uncomfortable, and the overall vibe didn’t feel very welcoming. It was crowded and noisy, which made it hard to relax and enjoy my drink. To top it off, the prices felt way too high for what I received. There are plenty of other cafes nearby that offer much better value. Sadly, I won’t be returning. I hope they take some time to address these issues. If I can give zero star, I would. p/s; Don’t order for the big breakfast. It’s probably the worst bb I’ve ever had in my whole entire life. No explanation needed!
Lizapresilla S — Google review
Went here with high expectations but left feeling thoroughly disappointed. On entering the staff were all busy but eventually got shown by a blunt young man to a table in the ‘dining area’, not the busier ‘cake and coffee area’. The room wasn’t particularly atmospheric with only 1 other table occupied. Went for the Signature Bon Ton 3 Course Laksa set. After a long wait-about 25 minutes the food arrived …altogether! I wasn’t expecting everything at once. The top hats were fine albeit the chilli sauce was mild and no ‘kick’. The Malaca Nyonya Laksa was drab and lacked taste and more importantly was lukewarm. The black rice pudding was again lacklustre. I finished the meal and didn’t bother waiting for the bill. Again, staff nonchalantly disinterested, took payment at checkout.I was expecting them to ask some feedback about the meal but nothing. I just left bewildered! It seems their better reviews are for cake and coffee. Maybe I should have studied them more carefully!

The cake is nice specially the Banana passionfruit cake very refreshing, the Tiramisu is signature must order. The rest okie only. We order 2 spaghetti one vegan and one pesto chicken but taste is not Pesto more like assam laksa taste 😜😜😜(maybe is their own specialist). Price is on high side be prepare for exclusive price. Exclusive price but lousy service specially a lady in short hair super rude like do not welcome any guest (cause not just to our table is to all guests). Be prepare to pay 5*++ price no star service 🤭🤭🤭 oh one last thing never never never order the Lime juice (@RM 10++ per glass tase like drinking water only) super super super disappointed.

Cafe was dimly lit to the extent that it was not comfortable to the eyesight. Also had a hard time reading the menu. Coffee was not bad, but small servings. The cakes no doubt using premium ingredients but were too sweet. Price was quite steep, if not one of the most expensive around Penang. RM17++ for a cup of small hot latte. Go figure.

Honestly just come here to hangout till late while eating some good cakes. Dont expect good service or good food. You can honestly get better food in the area at a cheaper price! But vibes and the interior are 💯 But low key wish the food was good 🥹 even thought I had a great time . I went back home thinking about the RM180 I just spent and felt completely unsatisfied and hungry 🥲🥲🥲

Penang Little India is a vibrant and colorful neighborhood filled with numerous shops and vendors offering Indian clothing, jewelry, and street food. Located near Lebuh Queen (Queen Street), this Indian shopping and dining district is mainly concentrated in Lebun Pasar and Lebun King, featuring a variety of Indian shops. As you stroll through the area, you'll encounter an array of businesses offering men's and women's clothing, shoes, hats, luggage, flowers, catering services, and more.
I went to this place on Deepavali festival. The atmosphere was very lively. 💜I thought it was India. There were so many clothes and accessories.

If you are exploring Indian cultures in Penang, you must visit Penang Little India. There are stores offering Indian fashion, Indian delicacies, Indian spices, Indian groceries, jeweleries, money changer, till Hindu temple. The location is within Georgetown UNESCO World Heritage Site. To reach Penang Little India, you may board City Area Transit (CAT) bus from Jetty Ferry Terminal and alight at Lebuh Pantai (Bank OCBC stop). From this bus stop, it is only around 1 minute walking distance to reach the entrance gate to Lebuh Pasar where Little India is located. If you drive private car, road side parking is available but is quite challenging. Instead, you may park at MBPP Carpark at Lebuh Pantai, which is just opposite to Little India entrance.

Penang's Little India offers a dynamic, vibrant sensory journey that instantly transports visitors from George Town to the bustling streets of the Indian subcontinent. Nestled within the UNESCO World Heritage Site, this compact area is a rich tapestry of sights, sounds, and smells, primarily centered around Market Street and Queen Street. The atmosphere is captivating and lively. Speakers blast upbeat Bollywood music, competing with the chatter of vendors and the rhythmic clang of kitchen utensils. The air is intensely fragrant with blooming jasmine garlands, burning incense, and a heady mix of spices. A walk through here is a feast for the eyes, with rows of shops decked out in shimmering saris, intricate gold jewelry, and colorful handicrafts. The culinary scene is arguably the main attraction. Little India is a paradise for lovers of authentic South Indian cuisine. You absolutely must try a classic banana leaf rice meal, crispy dosas, or a plate of local nasi kandar. The street food, particularly the hot, flaky samosas and sweet jalebi, is unmissable. It's also home to the ornate Sri Mahamariamman Temple. This enclave is essential viewing for anyone seeking to understand the deep, delicious, and diverse multicultural fabric of Penang.

At last a place where you can enjoy Indian food and find your own countrymen after days of feeling homesick 😅
Karnail S — Google review
Little India in Ipoh is centered around 12, Jalan Lahat, 30000 Ipoh, Perak. It’s one of the major business and cultural hubs for the Indian community in Ipoh — you’ll find shops selling sarees, boutiques, tailoring, jewellery, spices, prayer goods, and Indian cultural items. The area has a distinct traditional vibe, with many shops being family‑run, colourful displays, and a fair amount of foot traffic during the day. Food & Dining One of the draws of Little India is the food. There are several Indian food stalls, restaurants, and “tea kadais” where you can sample South and North Indian fare. Dish variety includes dosa, thosai, roti canai, curries, biryani, etc. Instarem | International money transfers That said, not everything is perfect: Some visitors have complained about slow service and long waits. For example, one review says food arrived “after 30 min of begging for food.” Others say that certain dishes arrive cold, or are gummy (especially thosai, roti etc.) or that the curries feel watered down. So while flavors are often decent and the food is affordable, consistency seems to be an issue depending on which vendor and how busy the place is. Ambience & Experience The area is lively during the day, especially mornings to early evenings, with shoppers, local families, and tourists moving through. But there are drawbacks: parking is somewhat chaotic; cars are parked haphazardly; walkways and sidewalks are sometimes blocked by tables or shop displays. Cleanliness and infrastructure are average — not bad, but not “top‑tier” either. During peak times things get a bit messy, and some stalls or eateries may not maintain the best hygiene. Value & Price Prices are generally reasonable. You’ll pay modest amounts for Indian food, clothing, fabrics, household goods etc. Part of the appeal is the cost‑to‑variety ratio. For those who enjoy exploring, tasting local eats, bargaining a little, Little India gives fairly good value.

Little India in Penang is full of vibrant colors and the rich aroma of spices, making it one of the most lively areas to explore. As you walk through, you’ll hear Indian music playing and see shops filled with jewelry and traditional clothing, giving you a true taste of another culture. I decided to buy one of the red stickers worn on the forehead, and the moment I put it on, locals smiled and started talking to me. That’s when I realized I hadn’t just bought a sticker — I had bought friendship. A unique and memorable experience I’d recommend to any visitor.

The Wonderfood Museum in Georgetown, Malaysia is an imaginative destination featuring larger-than-life replicas of Malaysian dishes, providing historical and educational information about the local cuisine. It's a great indoor activity, especially for families with children or on rainy days. The museum showcases exaggerated versions of simulated food models and offers insights into the environmental impact of food consumption. Visitors can take colorful photos with the displays and learn about Penang's culinary culture.
Very cool to learn the history of Malaysian food. The price is affordable. You should allocate about 1 hour here if you want to read everything, otherwise you can see everything in 20 minutes or so. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, they can give you restaurant recommendations as well. Some interesting artworks as well. They have props you can take funny photos with. No need to buy tickets online or in advanced just buy at the counter and enter straight away. Overall a must visit for foodies.

One of the most unusual museums we have visited. A look at how Malaysian and local Penang dishes developed over many years. Amazing models uniquely made by skilled modellers it gives a visual representation of food through the ages. Not somewhere we specifically wanted to vist but very happy we did.

The museum is worth visiting and the staff are really supportive. The smile on their face is welcoming. The information in the artifacts is well arranged. The texture of the artifacts is also very realistic. While the efforts of the artistics is commendable the efforts of current team is maintaining it should also be acknowledge. Well prepared and maintained. We really enjoyed the museum and the knowledge about food and it's journey...

Air conditioned, spent 30min to 1hour here. A fun and quirky museum that I really enjoyed, especially because I love looking at food displays. There are creative photo spots featuring giant versions of local dishes and unusual food concepts like black white theme, colourful foods and even antigravity style setups that make the visit playful and unique. It is a nice place to take photos with friends or family while also learning about Penang food culture in a light and engaging way. Overall, it is a nice stop if you enjoy food, visual displays and want some fun photos for your trip.

This was an interesting museum. I forgot what the admission cost was but it wasn’t much. I think it was between $4-7 USD. When we went it was mostly us and a couple girls. We basically had the whole place to ourselves. The museum is helpful if you’re new to Malaysian food and don’t know where to start. There are plenty of photo ops and there is even a photographer that will help you take pictures. He will take pictures of you with his camera as well as with your phone. He’ll show you the pictures he took at the end. The cost is very cheap. We spent exactly an hour there and we took a good amount of pictures too. The employees were very nice and helpful.

I believed this is first of its kind at least in SEA. Something different from the usual museums that we used to visit. The place is rather small but it is serves its purpose to showcase to the world the pride of Malaysian food. Interestingly, it is also sending educational messages to stop killing sharks for its fins as delicacies and watching our sugar intake just to name a few. Great effort by the founders.

Very interesting experience. Beyond our expectation. Worth going. The entrance payment is very affordable. Charges for local RM20 adult, children and senior citizens RM15 for local. You will be learning all the Malaysian food items names.

The Pinang Peranakan Mansion is a captivating heritage museum that provides insight into the Peranakans' way of life. This community comprises descendants of Chinese immigrants who settled in the Malay archipelago between the 15th and 17th centuries. The mansion, a meticulously restored ancestral home, displays an impressive array of antiques and artifacts that illustrate the cultural blend of local Malay, Indian, Chinese, and European influences.
The Uniqueness of Peranakan Culture (Visited on September 11, 2025) Speaking about Peranakan culture, Penang is widely known for has thriving Peranakan culture. The unique culture is well-preserved by government and locals alike, to the point creating a museum dedicated for documenting the life of being upper class Peranakan at Penang. In this case, specifically during 19th century to 20th century. Situated at previously actual mansion occupied by Peranakan, Pinang Peranakan Mansion showcasing the interior of a house representing the lifestyle and culture of upper class Peranakan. Many things were displayed at the museum. Note that do not touch the display. The interior was very beautiful, displaying distinct acculturation between indigenous and foreign culture, colorful, and complex design preference. This similar characteristics also can be found on some furniture. The museum was large enough to accommodate large amount of visitors. No need to feel exhausted, as the museum was equipped with AC and fan.

We came here with main objective for Nonya kebaya dress up, and were amazed at the items in museum. Displayed were v detailed crafts by peranakans like beaded bags and shoes with super micro beads, to antique furnitures which really brought us back to Little Nonya tv series site. The Nonya kebaya rental, hairdo, makeup, photographers and museum ticket entry are at the little building opposite the museum. important note: Ensure your engaged photographer time slot is confirmed n written by staff onto your receipt before walking off Nonya Palazzo. We learn it the hard way with a lot of time wasted. Our photographer was double booked at our stipulated timing due to the mistake by the staff at counter. We were told a photographer slot 2 hours later from our kebaya rental, which we proceed to make payment n set hairdo. After loitering around at museum for 2 hours we came back for photographer and were told that his slot is for another couple. The reason? Their procedure was to confirm timing after our hairdo and dress up so that the timing can be assigned. But this was NOT COMMUNICATED to us at all, and we were CONFIRMED AT STIPULATED TIME during payment. The staff still wrote my name on the list, but missed out writing in the timing. The reassigned timing was 2 hours later from original time which by then would be 4 freaking hours wait just for photoshoot, due to front service staff mistake. By then we were asking for full refund n ready to walk off, without the much anticipated photoshoot. Some discussion went on with their boss and photographer managed to squeeze out time & slot us in after the couple’s. The photography session went well and the photographer SL handled professionally, despite the arrangement mishap. Highly recommend to have professional photographer as he will guide you for Nonya-applicable poses in museum :) which creates very good keepsake memory. To museum front counter service staff, we respect your procedure but this isn’t your insurance to keep telling customers only after things got screwed up and totally not mention at all prior. Please communicate clearly to your customers, and ensure leave no stones unturned. People don’t wait 4 hours just for a photography session when we could have arrange for other itinerary. If you had promised a certain timing, you don’t flip your words and said that it was termed “estimated” afterwhich, when it’s you missed out on writing down the time onto your sheet. We went for payment after your confirmed photography time slot. And not “estimated” as claimed.

The tour included in the entry fee is worth it. Our guide was gave us an extensive details and history of the mansion. Lots of antiques and precious collections to see. If you want to escape Penang’s humidity, this is a good option to cool down and best to go in the afternoon.

This is an interesting place to visit whether you're a history buff or not. It allowed me to peek into the lifestyle of the wealthy Nonya family. Looking at the artefacts and portraits was fun enough, but I would have loved it more if detailed descriptions and explanations were given on signs and boards. As it is now, the visitor has to piece everything together without being given a congruent story. Nonetheless, the mansion is beautiful and the musical show is very cute.
Debbie L — Google review
RM30 is the entry fee per person. Self-guided tours are available throughout the day. We bought the entry ticket after reaching there. Can spend 2 hours. Beautiful Mansion , 2 levels and multiple rooms to watch and see. Can get crowded and the family prayer room in the back has a disconcerting feeling. Must visit which gives a glimpse into Peranakan life and the grandeur. Thoroughly enjoyed it. And lot of photo spots to get good pictures. Only negative was the airconditioning inside the mansion and it got so stuffy to be inside which ruined the experience. Other than that, definitely recommended if you are in Georgetown.
Priyadharshini V — Google review
A Crowded Peek into Peranakan Life Pinang Peranakan Mansion in George Town is a vibrant showcase of Peranakan culture, blending Chinese, Malay, and European flair in a restored 19th-century mansion. For RM30, you wander freely through rooms packed with over 1,000 antiques—porcelain, kebayas, silverware, and grand tok panjang tables. The green facade and ornate courtyards scream heritage charm, perfect for photos. However, it’s often crowded, making it hard to soak in the vibe peacefully. The exhibits, while stunning, feel overstuffed, and not all tie directly to Baba-Nyonya daily life—some pieces seem more decorative than contextual, which dilutes the cultural focus. The self-guided setup lets you explore at your pace, but lacks the storytelling a guide might offer. It’s a compact 1-hour visit, best early to dodge the rush. At RM30, it’s decent value for Penang’s UNESCO gem, but could be sharper. I’d give it 4-stars—great for design fans, less so if you want a focused Nyonya narrative. Still a worthy stop for heritage lovers!
Spare T — Google review
Interesting tour of the mansion, was highly impressed with the English speaking tour guide, he was engaging and knowledgable. You can pay for a tour and spend as much time as you wish after exploring the rooms which is a nice touch. The tour lasts approx. 40-45 minutes. The only reason I didn’t score 5/5 was because the exhibits felt a bit modernised in places and the waiting area was very hectically managed.

WOW unbelievable, got to see it on my own , go early ! So insanely well done ! Loved the jewel area and everything really . Thanks for the stunning collection . Exploring the street art murals in Penang felt like walking through an open-air museum. Every corner told a story from playful kids on bicycles to old cultural scenes that reflect the heart of the city. The walls were alive with color, texture, and emotion, blending history with creativity in such a unique way. I loved how each mural felt personal not just something to look at, but something to feel. The mix of old heritage buildings and modern art gives the streets a special charm. Locals were warm and proud to share the stories behind the paintings, and the whole experience made me appreciate Penang’s artistic soul even more. It’s not just art it’s the city speaking in color. A legendary blend of culture, memory, and imagination that makes Penang unforgettable. 🎨

Okay to visit if you like murals, but expect no good food in the surroundings. This particular exhibit (Little Children on a Bicycle) is situated next to an ice cream shop in Armenian Street. Visit on a weekday and you'll see no crowds.

This place is wonderful. It is full of Art work and memories to bring back home. I got what I want here too whenever I travelled to another country. I'm a postcard and stamp collector. Most places in Malaysia are difficult to find postcards and when you get to find a postcard, you will need to look for post office to buy stamp and drop into their mail box. But here in Penang Street Art, I don't have to go anywhere far. The shop that I buy postcards from also sells stamps and they do have a small mail box outside their shop for us to drop the postcard. This is so convinient. Get to take nice pictures too.

Clan Jetties of Penang

Historical landmark
The Clan Jetties of Penang are a historic and picturesque destination featuring traditional Chinese water villages built on stilts over the water. These century-old villages, owned by different Chinese clans, offer a glimpse into the heritage and lifestyle of the early Chinese immigrants in Malaysia. The Chew Clan Jetty is particularly popular among tourists, offering attractions such as souvenir shops, stilt houses, and scenic walkways.
The Clan Jetties consist of villages with residential neighbourhood within the city of George Town, Penang. Each neighborhood is owned by residents of a specific Chinese clan: Ong, Lim, Chew, Tan, Lee, Mixed Clan and Yeoh jetties. It is part of the Georgetown UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is well preserved till today and has become one of the tourist destinations in Penang. The houses are built above the seawater and is connected through wooden walkway. At each clan village, there are not only local houses to be viewed. At some houses, they also offer local delicacies and souvenirs. Some Chinese temples can be found here. Visitors may also take numerous pictures with beautiful water village as background. These clan jetties are situated along the Pangkalan Weld Road. Visitors may take Rapid Penang buses to Jetty/Weld Quay Bus Terminal. From this bus terminal, it is within 5-minute walking distance to these clan of jetties. E-hailing service can be used to reach this place as well.

A nice quick stop to see the local fishermen or the villagers who live here. Good photo stop. It can be very windy and some may feel scared to walk on the slightly narrow jetty without any hand rails.
SiFeRa — Google review
Some jetties are good, some not so good. The city should invest a lot more money here as it could be much better than it is. But it's important to retain the Chinese authenticity. These jetties should be a showpiece.

Interesting experience to see what life on a jetty is like. Recommend turning off the main path to see a behind the scenes look at domestic life here… but at same time being sensitive to not being too intrusive.

Chew Jetty in Penang is one of the island’s most fascinating and culturally rich destinations. Located along the waterfront of George Town, this historic settlement is home to a community of Chinese families, many of whom have lived here for generations. The residents are traditionally associated with fishing and other maritime livelihoods, and their wooden houses, built on stilts above the sea, offer a rare glimpse into Penang’s living heritage. Inside the jetty area, visitors will find a small local market selling everyday goods, snacks, and souvenirs at very affordable prices. It’s a wonderful place to pick up unique handmade items while supporting the local community. At the entrance of the jetty stands a beautiful Buddhist temple, adding a touch of spiritual serenity to the lively surroundings. As you walk along the wooden walkway towards the main jetty, the stunning sea views and refreshing breeze create an unforgettable experience. The calm waters, colorful homes, and friendly atmosphere make it a perfect spot for photography and quiet reflection. With its rich history, authentic charm, and breathtaking scenery, Chew Jetty offers a truly unique insight into Penang’s cultural roots and coastal life — a must-visit place for every traveler exploring the island.

Nice auntie selling ref magnets. I bought 2, 5 RM each. Be careful on your cellphone as the wooden floor has gaps and it might slip into it. Great to know that the people living here are making business and earning money from tourists for selling foods and items. Nothing special to see here as an asian tourist but if you like Penang merchandise, visit here.

Nice place to enjoy sunrise. Some food stalls at the jetty opens from 9 am to 9 pm
Shehzad T — Google review
Visiting the Clan Jetties in Georgetown was an interesting experience, it offers a glimpse into the lives of the communities living above the water. We started with Chew Jetty, the most popular and busiest of them all, as it's lined with souvenir vendors. The wooden docks are home to both shops and local residents, and I couldn’t help but wonder: how do they rest with tourists passing by every day? It must take a lot of patience to live in such a bustling area. The pier at Chew Jetty is quite wide, making it more accessible for large crowds. After exploring it, my husband and I became curious about Tan Jetty, so we decided to check it out. Tan Jetty was noticeably different. It had a much narrower pier, meaning we couldn’t walk side by side. Unlike Chew Jetty, it had no souvenir stalls, just one or two food vendors. Another thing to note is that the pier lacks fences, making it a bit unsafe for children or elderly visitors. I was also curious about Ong Jetty, Lee Jetty, and Lim Jetty, but by then, the heat was unbearable, and my legs were exhausted from all the walking. Maybe next time!

Came during Mother’s Day, so many cakes were not available. Prices here can be on the high side. Truffle bar bread cost RM24. Good pastries, expensive for Penang standard. Hot chocolate was better than their coffee. Place was packed but service was generally good.

I try only this cake.. buy only one because it's too pricey for me. But I enjoy this experience Soo much. Enchante is a layered cheese cake. Biscuit base, rose cream cheese mousse raspberry compote raspberry rose lychee cremeux. So the top layer has the richest sensation, sweet sour and flower fragrant aroma. The white cream cheese has mild rose fragrance. And the filling is sweet and a bit sour. I love this sensation, will come again for lemon cake❤️

Overpriced but not bad when you have certain cravings at a certain time. It was the only pastry shop that opens early and we were craving for pastries. So kudos on being the early one 9am ..although we are used to pastry shops being opened earlier in other countries. But this will do for Penang and Malaysia 😂 The pastries are good. We came here twice now, only not happy with the scones being served with butter instead of cream...I find it weird in my 2 decades of dining in 5* hotels and restaurants. They have really good looking desserts which are exhorbitant in price, but maybe it just shows the limited skillset we have in this country. All in all, a good place to come to if you are in this part of the world and need some good pastries and willing to pay.

Bought fruit danish for RM 13. Generally price on the steeper side. Most cakes ranging from rm20 and above. The pastries are delicious. Can get other pastries as well (croissant, pain au chocolat, etc). Ambient cafe environment with helpful staff. If not into sweet drinks/coffee, they do provide plain water for free. However, parking is a disaster here. Could hardly find any parking place. There is a private parking lot situated within 300m from the store but still quite full.

TRANSPARENCY IS THE BEST POLICY Tucked along Beach Street, Le Petit Four doesn’t announce itself loudly. There are no floral walls or gimmicks - just a quiet confidence in the pastries, the space, and the pace it offers. I’ve always loved the blueish exterior - calm, understated, a little European without trying too hard. It catches your eye without shouting for attention, and somehow sets the tone for everything inside. I came here two years ago with my close friend and my mother. We ordered kouign-amann, a pistachio tart, TWG tea, and a refreshing lemon mint cooler. The kouign-amann had caramelised edges and soft, buttery layers. The tart was delicately balanced, with roasted pistachios adding crunch and richness. Everything tasted honest, made with patience. The interior is quiet and minimal. No neon signs telling you to “live, laugh, latte.” Just natural light, soft tones, and space to sit with your thoughts. It felt deeply Penang: thoughtful, rooted, and not trying to keep up with a trend cycle. Café culture in Penang and KL often runs on different speeds. In KL, cafés tend to aim big - big aesthetics, bold plating, fast turnover, and a visible awareness of how things will play online. Places like Flaaaaaah at Four Points lean heavily into visual spectacle, with pastries that feel like they were made for the camera first and your palate second. KLCG strikes a warmer balance - heritage charm meets local flair - but it still carries that polished city rhythm. Le Petit Four is different. It doesn’t demand attention. It doesn’t posture. It just serves you a good pastry, and lets you decide what to make of the moment. Yes, Le Petit Four is said to be Halal-certified by JAKIM, and at the time of my visit, I cross-checked it through reliable listings. However, the certification isn’t clearly shown on their official platforms, so if that’s a concern, it’s always worth confirming again.

This café is truly something special. We came here for breakfast and were instantly charmed by the calm, inviting ambience. If you can, grab a seat by the front window overlooking the road—you won’t regret it. The pastries were absolutely delightful, and the drinks were just as impressive. Prices are slightly on the higher side, but well worth it for the quality and experience. Highly recommended.

The restaurant, also known as Tree Shade, features a unique entrance with a huge tree growing in the middle. It resembles a fishmonger's shop with displays of fresh seafood and an open kitchen with sizzling woks.
Nice place with very good price! Staff not well in English but very helpful and good service. I’ve ordered a big bowl of Tom Yam prawns with only 39 RM! Morning glory was good. Oyster omelet is OK but it’s would be great if a little more salty. Squid with salted egg is one NOT recommended dish. Location was very close to Chewjetty easy to find.

A seafood restaurant for delicious cooking at a reasonable price. If you can compromise the hygiene & down to earth environment. No aircon! We ordered steam promfret, fried spinach, chilli "siput", fried squid, and mantis prawn. The food came pretty fast although it's crowded. Delicious meal but one of us had slight stomach upset later. I don't mind trying again 😂🙏🙏

I had visited this place many many years ago. Back then it was simple and I can see "the tree".. It's been a couple of decades since and this place has turned commercialized. There is an unwritten and no signature as to where to go to order etc. We were usher into the restaurant and put up at a corner next to a little fountain. We arrived at around 7+pm knowing well that they start serving dinner from 5:10pm until about 9pm. So we arrived mid-dining time? The place is already packed.. there were about 2 tables available. Once at our table we noticed that drinks menu and a lady promptly took our order. The sugar cane juice that we ordered is unlike any we had. Looking at the photo there's a bamboo in the drink but elsewhere I never had such sugar cane juice. There's a slight hint of sugar cane taste in the beverage. We had to order at the counter and this is where we were a little confused. There's no table number and when we arrive at the front where we assumed to place our order, we were told by an elderly lady to order "over there" pointing to a spot that is vacant. We stood there menu in hand waiting. Fortunately another lady came back and took our order. We tried to describe where we sat and obviously is unclear. The lady asked us to proceed back to our table and she observed our location. The food arrive rather quickly. First the potato leaves, Then the softshell crab followed by the gong pow frog. The fu yong eggs came last. In terms of taste, the softshell crab, potato leaves and frog are reasonable.. nothing fantastic. The fu yong eggs is strange.. we won't sure if that's our order or what we had ordered. Nonetheless and eat and left. Honestly.. I would give this a miss and instead try the Seafood place just opposite Chew jetty. We saw it on our way into Armenian Street. It seems to be separate stores which probably means you get your variety.

It's very crowded during my visit on a weekend dinner time. This place has now become a famous tourist spot. Very few locals will come & dine here. For such crowd, service is considered fast. Ordering is at the counter. Food portion is big, price is reasonable. Tastes wise just average. Their dishes are mostly on the salty side. If you have a light tastebud then this place is not suitable for u.

Food is tasty and fresh! Live crab from RM140/kg, ordered 2 decent sized crabs for about 900g. If you crave for seafood, give this place a try.

Had a really satisfying meal at Da Shu Xia! We ordered the steamed egg mantis, 4 heavenly king with sambal, stir-fried pork belly, coconut prawns, and salted egg octopus. Every single dish was flavorful, well-cooked and so savory. The seafood was fresh, the pork belly was fragrant, and the vegetables had just the right spice.

Seafood very fresh. Price quite reasonable. Too crowded & hot. Queue up wait for table still ok around 10 minutes. They cook quite fast. Not waiting for too long. Famous nice food sure will have a lot ppl. Nice place for having fresh seafood.

Indian Muslim restaurant
Kassim Mustafa Nasi Dalcha Restaurant is a popular dining spot in the bustling backpacking district of Georgetown. It offers an array of fiery and flavorful nasi kandar dishes served in a clean and comfortable setting. The local proprietors are known for their untempered curries, resulting in exceptionally spicy fare. To balance the heat, diners are advised to order plenty of vegetables, particularly cabbage.
First time having Nasi Kandar here and it was divine! They had 6-7 curries to choose from and then a bunch of other veg and delights to add on. The seating area is simple but you’re not coming here for the cozy vibes. The team was very helpful, not sure why people have felt scammed in the past. Stick to the rice and curries, wouldn’t come here for naan etc that’s for the tourists.

⚠️ BIG SCAM ALERT⚠️ One of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. First of all, the restaurant tried to scam us by adding items to the bill that we never ordered. When we pointed it out, the staff acted confused and unhelpful, refusing to correct it properly. The food was cold, lacked any flavor, and was clearly not freshly prepared. Definitely not worth the money. It felt like it had been sitting around for a while before being served. We barely touched our meals. The service was absolutely terrible – slow, rude, and unprofessional. No one cared to ask how the food was, and they even had the nerve to ask for a tip after giving us the worst service we’ve had in a long time. To top it off, we caught a glimpse of the kitchen, and it was filthy. It raised serious concerns about hygiene and food safety. Overall, this place deserves a 4/10 at best (and that’s being generous). I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Save your money and eat somewhere that actually respects its customers.

Kassim Mustafa’s Nasi Dalcha is a feast of bold flavours—thick, fragrant curries, crunchy fried chicken, and comforting dalcha that warms the soul. On taste, it’s a clear five stars, the kind of food that keeps you scooping up extra kuah without regret. Ambience, however, settles at three stars. The kopitiam-style space with bright yellow chairs carries a nostalgic charm, but the overall cleanliness and facilities need more care. Good food alone isn’t enough; spotless surroundings would lift the experience to another level. Still, if you come hungry and focus on the plate, you’ll leave fully satisfied and eager to return.

Dine in 14 Sep 2025. Arrive at 18.00 not much choices left. I ordered Nasi Dalca with veggies and hard boiled egg with kuah kicap RM 5,5. It was ok. Not so aromatic like other places. In my taste opinion 6/10.

Delicious and authentic food! The nasi dalcha and ayam curry are a must-try — flavorful and freshly made. Only downside is limited street parking and no disabled parking nearby, which can be inconvenient. Still, worth it for the taste and friendly service!

Too much hype for this restaurant, but not that much worth. Average taste only. When I check with local tamil speaking guys, they said once upon a time food was very good.

Let me share my first experience tasting Nasi Kandar at Kassim Mustafa Restaurant in Penang. I love trying traditional and authentic dishes wherever I go, but I tried this amazing dish on my second visit to Malaysia. It was about 1 am when we reached Chulia Street, and luckily, Kassim Mustafa was open, so I could finally try the meal I had traveled so far for. The taste was awesome. I ordered a plate of chicken Nasi Kandar, a coconut, and a cold drink. The total was around 20 ringgit, but it was definitely worth it because it was delicious and not too spicy. Another great thing is that this restaurant is accessible for ♿wheelchairs and people with different abilities.

Kek Lok Si Temple, located on the White Crane Mountain in Penang, Malaysia, is the largest Chinese Buddhist temple in the country. Built in 1889, it showcases a blend of architectural styles from China, Thailand, and Myanmar. The temple complex is divided into lower, middle, and hilltop sections featuring intricate decor and numerous Buddha images. Visitors can explore various religious and cultural structures as well as beautifully landscaped gardens.
Amazing vast site on many levels, sometimes a bit difficult to work out which way to go but there are always kind people there to ask and they are very willing to help. So much to see and take pictures of I’d advise 3-4 hours if you take lots of beautiful pictures. 2-3 hours if you don’t. I took a taxi there but found via google the local bus 204 took me to 200 yds of my hotel and cost just 2 R, didn’t take much longer than a taxi and was A/C ….LOVE A BARGAIN
Jonbristolbs4 — Google review
Recommended but with some negatives. Pros: still plenty of beauty in the buildings and grounds. Nice viewpoints. Staff are friendly and helpful. Cons: It's chaotic. The lower tram isn't working so they put you in a mini van to get to the next level up, then a golf cart to the upper tram. There's no map or guide to help you, and signage is confusing. There's a walk up and through gardens that would have been better than the golf cart. There's no way for first time visitors to understand the layout. They want you to go through the stores and you'll miss the best parts on the middle levels if you aren't careful. Take your time to explore all the directions. It's quite commercialized. Selling stuff I the Temples seems a little weird.

Kek Lok Si Temple in Penang is one of the most breathtaking attractions in George Town and a must-visit for travelers seeking culture, history, and stunning views. Built on a hillside, this Buddhist temple complex is famous for its colorful architecture, intricate carvings, and the impressive 30-meter tall Goddess of Mercy statue. Walking through the temple grounds, you’ll discover beautiful pagodas, prayer halls, and thousands of Buddha statues. During Chinese New Year, the temple lights up with lanterns, creating a magical atmosphere perfect for photos. Accessible by car or Grab, it’s a peaceful escape where you can enjoy panoramic views of Penang Island. Whether you’re here for spirituality, photography, or sightseeing, Kek Lok Si Temple is truly one of the top things to do in Penang and an unforgettable highlight of any trip.

Kek Lok Si Temple is a beautiful and iconic place to visit in Penang. The architecture, statues, and view from the top are absolutely worth the trip! If you’re able to walk up the temple, I’d highly recommend doing so — it’s a nice experience and you’ll get to explore the surroundings at your own pace. Be aware there are quite a few drivers touting their service (around RM33) to bring visitors up to the Guan Yin temple level. Personally, I find it not necessary unless you have mobility issues. The tram service stop also isn’t really worth it. Walking up is definitely the better way to enjoy the place!
Billy L — Google review
Well... If you really have a time then visit it, otherwise don't fomo. The architecture of buildings are pretty impressive, Big Buddha statue is pretty big, there is a nice city view, but all the buildings are not sacred but... gift shops :( As for the cable car, there is no priority lane for disabled or infants, so you have to wait in the warm gift shop in a close proximity to other people. To be honest, skip the cable car/cab option and take a walk from the parking to the top. It's very easy and short. If you have a baby trolley like me, you can go around the stairs.
Dariusz W — Google review
A must recommend place to visit in Penang. The temple is a beautiful architectural monastery. there are many stairs and not suitable for aged and kids. However a cable car is there one can purchase tickets after reaching the main gate of the temple. Many food stalls are also situated near this temple.

Majestic and Peaceful Temple Complex Kek Lok Si Temple is absolutely breathtaking — a true symbol of Penang’s spiritual and cultural beauty. The intricate architecture, towering pagoda, and giant Goddess of Mercy statue make this one of the most impressive Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia. The atmosphere is calm and serene, with stunning panoramic views of Penang from the top. It’s best to visit early morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat and enjoy the beautiful lighting for photos. Don’t miss the turtle pond and the peaceful prayer halls. A must-visit landmark for anyone coming to Penang!

So take a grab and walk around to the top… quite nice with amazing stops you will spot.. no taxi needed to the top… sure lil bit hot - but that’s like everywhere when you want to explore more …definitely thought about if it is worth concerning the construction and the references here … but it was amazing and we are also a couple which travels for month around asia we were too later so we was at the statue under construction but don’t know if you could even go higher 🫶

The Habitat Penang Hill is a must-visit attraction on the island, offering an educational and enjoyable experience in the pristine rainforest. Visitors can explore the lush tropical rainforest, learn about its flora and fauna, and take short nature trails. The highlight is the treetop and canopy walk that provides a unique perspective of the area.
A beautiful place in the heart of the forest. Far from the crowds. Very pleasant and relaxing. It's a shame that some tourists talk loudly, it spoils the peace of this place. We bought tickets for the 5:30 p.m. tour, a little more expensive but allows us to do the night tour at 7:45 p.m. with fantastic guides who showed us the beauties of nature and what is hidden there. Without them, we would not have seen all of this. I recommend going there at the end of the day.
Laëtitia D — Google review
Our visit to the Habitat and evening walk inside it, was on 27June2025. I have mixed reviews for my experience, but generally dissapointed and short of my expectations. Our experience at The Habitat was both wonderful (for the exploration & views) & horrific (dark, unsafe, unguarded during the evening) 🤑💸 For Rm60 for entrance + rm18 for evening walk (per pax), this place is poorly managed in terms of customers safety & expectations. That explains why there were very few visitors entering here at that hour.(I am unsure for the other times of the day of other days) 👻 Evening around 7.45pm, for about 10 mins walk out to the exit, with no one else in sight, just darkness (a few small little lights on the side walk), the jungle and its sounds, it was scary & spooky. Only saw more lights when we reahed the Langur way canopy walk. 👎 Some areas were badly maintained & lighting was really bad. Probably they want to ensure the area is kept wild and dark for the animals' natural habitat, that is understandable. 😰 However, there should have staff at checkpoints along the way to ensure visitors' safety & assurance that they are on the right path. 👽 When we finally arrive at the entrance, the staff hut (ticketing place) was dark, empty & we saw the huge gate was closed! Suddenly a tall dark man appeared & we though he was another visitor or a guard who will tell us that we are at the wrong place for exit! To our relief, he was indeed a staff or a person guarding the gat& he opened the gate for us. 🤩 Alhamdulillah, we made it out safely. I was a bit shake. At this point, I would not recommend paying extra for the evening walk, unless there is a good crowd of visitors and proper guide along the way by the staff on duty.

The Habitat on Penang Hill is absolutely worth the price of admission. The trails offer a pleasant hike surrounded by nature, and the treetop walk provides spectacular views and photo opportunities. Along the way, there are plenty of insects, birds, and other wildlife to observe. The highlight for me was the Langur Way Canopy Walk—breathtaking and beautifully designed. Everything was very well maintained and clean. For those not comfortable with heights, there’s an alternate trail that allows you to bypass the canopy walk.

I’ve been to Penang many many times but never to Penang Hill. Penang hill surprised me on the upside and The Habitat was the highlight of the visit. When we visited, the weather was cool and so, the walk was extra enjoyable. The jungle is pristine, the place is clean and the canopy walkway was very well done. More so the Curtis Cresent. We encountered a few interesting creatures - a black and red caterpillar, monkeys and a black yellow squirrel which was so healthy that its fur was glossy black. Malaysian with an OKU card goes in for free. Thank you to the mgmt for the kind offer. Much appreciated.

Wonderful experience throughout. The park is well kept, the view is stunning, signages are easy to follow. I love it how they are not overly commercialised, the gift shop carries good options, and the cafe items are reasonable. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable. They have water dispensers dotted around the park, which I very much appreciate. We’ve got tonnes of great pictures. And icing on the cake is that there is buy 1 feee 1 promotion on Sundays through Sept - Oct!

The Habitat Penang Hill was one of the most peaceful and refreshing places I visited in Malaysia. After the short funicular ride up Penang Hill, I entered this lush rainforest reserve and it felt like stepping into another world. The air was cool, birds were chirping, and everywhere I looked was a sea of green. Walking along the Curtis Crest Treetop Walk was the highlight, standing above the canopy with a 360° view of Penang Island, the mainland. The Habitat preserves one of the last remnants of Penang original rainforest, believed to be over 130 million years old. Its designed not just as a tourist spot but also as an eco-education center promoting conservation and sustainable tourism.

The Habitat Penang Hill: An Immersive Rainforest Escape The Habitat at Penang Hill offers a profoundly refreshing escape from the hustle of George Town, plunging visitors straight into a 130-million-year-old tropical rainforest ecosystem. This eco-tourism attraction is dedicated to conservation and education, providing a high-quality experience that highlights the island’s rich natural heritage. The key attractions are designed to give unique perspectives on the canopy. The Langur Way Canopy Walk, a two-span stressed ribbon bridge, allows you to stroll high above the forest floor, offering close-up views of the diverse flora and fauna, including the endangered Dusky Leaf Langurs. For 360-degree vistas, the Curtis Crest Tree Top Walk is essential. As the highest viewing platform on Penang Hill, it provides stunning, unobstructed panoramic views stretching across the island and the Andaman Sea—a perfect spot for photography, especially during sunset. The well-maintained 1.6km nature trail, originally a colonial-era path, is accessible and gentle, making it suitable for all fitness levels. Along the way, informative panels detail the region's biodiversity, from giant squirrels to exotic insect life. For those seeking deeper insight, the guided walks and specialized experiences like birdwatching or forest bathing are highly recommended. While the funicular ride and entry fee add up, the pristine environment and the unique opportunity to immerse yourself in this ancient ecosystem make The Habitat a worthwhile, memorable, and tranquil retreat. It's a must-visit for nature lovers seeking peace and spectacular views.

🌿 A beautiful escape into nature! Visited The Habitat today and absolutely loved it. The whole place feels like a peaceful retreat — surrounded by lush rainforest, fresh air, and scenic views. The canopy walk was a highlight, offering stunning panoramic views and a real sense of tranquility above the treetops. The trails were well-maintained, with plenty of signages and shaded spots to rest. Staff were friendly and helpful, and I appreciated how clean and eco-conscious everything felt. It’s a great spot if you’re looking to reconnect with nature, go for a mindful walk, or just enjoy some quiet away from the city. Highly recommend bringing comfy shoes, a camera, and taking your time to really soak it all in. Perfect for couples, solo explorers, or families.

This is probably the only place on our itinerary that was the most crowded. For some reason all of the tourists come here. There are some nice views when the fog isn’t there. They have different food restaurants that you can eat at. We had lunch at David Brown’s. Most people just buy drinks and just sit at the tables facing the city. Just a warning, those people just sit there for hours taking pictures. The food was good. They are short on staff though. Tickets were 30 RM for standard two way. The fast lane for 80 RM two way is a rip off. You only get in first but you don’t ride faster than a standard. The funicular service runs from 6:30 am to 11 pm. If you don't want to ride it, you can hike up for free. It’s worth a visit while you’re in Penang.

Penang Hill, locally known as Bukit Bendera, is a refreshing escape from the heat and hustle of George Town. Reaching the summit, over 800 meters above sea level, is an adventure in itself, thanks to the iconic, steeply inclined funicular railway. While lines for the train can be lengthy during peak hours—a quick tip: consider the fast-lane ticket to save time—the view from the top makes the journey worthwhile. The peak offers spectacular, panoramic vistas of the island, George Town’s skyline, and the mainland. It's especially magical during sunset or when the city lights twinkle at night. The air is noticeably cooler, often dropping several degrees, providing genuine respite. Beyond the viewing decks, the hill is steeped in history, featuring colonial-era bungalows and diverse religious sites, including a mosque and a Hindu temple. The prime attraction, however, is The Habitat. This world-class rainforest discovery center features the Curtis Crest Tree Top Walk and the Langur Way Canopy Walk, allowing visitors to walk high above the 130-million-year-old rainforest. It's an immersive experience for nature lovers, rich in flora and fauna. Penang Hill is a charming blend of natural beauty, colonial heritage, and modern eco-tourism, offering something for every visitor seeking cooler climes and breathtaking sights.

Lovely place to visit. I went on a random weekday early in the morning. It was not too crowded. You can take their train ride up the hill. Good view on top, with several small eateries. There is an option to hike up as well - just gotta follow the hiking path towards the left side of the entrance to hike up.

Nasi Kandar Kampung Melayu is a popular eatery located in the low-cost flat row of Kampung Melayu. Operating since 1970, it serves up to 700 to 1000 plates daily. The highlight here is the curry gravy made with plenty of ground onions and spices.
For authentic Nasi Kandar, look no further! In my opinion, this is the best in Penang. With a wide array of delicious dishes and friendly staff who provide excellent service, this is a must-try.

The food was good of course each place would have their own specialty unique taste. For this place what i appreciate is their warm hot food. It is prepared not from the morning. Their curry paste specially fish head is yummy and their fried chicken was juicy i had their wings and breast part and still it was juicy not dry so that was pleasent.

This restaurant is the best for me for Nasi Kandar in Penang , all the spices and main dish was really suit me . Not over powered spices and the gravy taste was really just right . I really enjoyed it but only to find parking is quite hard . I went on weekdays and was not school holidays also which the queue also not so long as the staff said majority their customers were local people . The price also affordable and reasonable .

This place is quite popular with locals, but the taste wasn’t quite to my preference. The curry gravy reminded me more of Malay curry rather than the usual nasi kandar style I’m used to. The environment also felt a bit uncomfortable and could be cleaner. But still worth to try.

The food at Nasi Kandar Kampung Melayu is really good, tasty and worth the price! However, the cleanliness could be improved a little, as the restaurant is located below a flat area. Still, the food quality makes it worth coming back for. A true local gem for nasi kandar lovers! 🍛✨

Nestled in the natural landscapes of Waterfall River Valley, Penang Botanic Gardens is a 30-hectare public park featuring a diverse range of botanical exhibits. Despite being commonly known as 'Waterfall Gardens,' there's no actual waterfall within the park. However, visitors can still enjoy exploring the extensive tropical rainforest, rare species of ferns, an herb garden, and an orchidarium.
Penang Botanical Gardens is a beautiful and peaceful escape right outside the city. The grounds are well-kept, full of lush greenery, and home to a surprising variety of plants and wildlife. It’s a great place for a morning walk, light hike, or just to enjoy nature. Highly recommend visiting if you want a break from the bustle of George Town. A perfect spot for both locals and travelers to recharge in nature.

The Botanical Garden in George Town is like nature showing off. 🌿 Lush greenery, giant trees, flowers everywhere—it’s the perfect spot if you want some peace, fresh air, or just a break from city life. Walking through feels like you’ve stepped into a real-life jungle postcard. But… let’s talk about the real bosses of the garden: the monkeys. 🐒 They’re not just monkeys, they’re naughty monkeys with PhDs in mischief. One moment you’re admiring the plants, the next you’re checking if a monkey is planning to “borrow” your water bottle, snack, or maybe even your dignity 😉😁. They’re funny to watch...but keep your bags closed and your food hidden, unless you want to star in their next comedy show. Just remember—botanical paradise above, cheeky monkeys plotting below. 😂

Penang Botanical Gardens - Free admission - Nice and spacious area to walk around - lots of trees. It takes about 2 hours to walk around. There are many branching paths, but each path is not very different. - but be careful of the monkeys, some are quiet and some are aggressive. - Finally, it extremely hot.

Really beautiful gardens to walk around and search for wildlife. Don’t expect banks of flowers as there are very few, but lots of amazing forest trees and some narrow paths winding through the trees and following water ways. Great to spend 2 or so hours enjoying the stunning scenery. Please don’t feed the monkeys and if photographing the them do not get too close to younger ones as their elders may get a bit protective and angry.

The Penang Botanical Gardens is one of the most refreshing spots to escape into nature while still being close to the city. It’s a beautifully landscaped area with wide open lawns, shaded walking paths, and a mix of curated gardens and wild greenery. 🌿 Nature & Scenery The gardens are spacious and well-maintained, featuring a variety of plants including orchids, ferns, palms, and unique tropical trees. Some areas, like the lily ponds and fountain gardens, are perfect for a slow, relaxing stroll. There are also small waterfalls and streams, which add a natural charm to the setting. The Understorey Florarium is an interesting stop if you enjoy learning about local plant species. 🦜 Wildlife As you walk around, you’ll likely spot plenty of monkeys and squirrels. The monkeys can be cheeky, so it’s best not to carry food openly or get too close. Bird sounds fill the air, adding to the tranquil atmosphere. 🚶 Walking & Hiking There are several trails that connect to nearby hills and forest areas, making this a good starting point for longer hikes if you’re up for it. Otherwise, the paved paths are comfortable for a casual walk, even with family or kids. 🌸 Atmosphere The overall vibe is peaceful, though weekends can get crowded with joggers, families, and tourists. Mornings are the best time to visit for cooler weather and fewer crowds. 💰 Entry & Accessibility Entry is free, which makes this an incredible value. It’s also accessible for wheelchairs and strollers in the main areas, though some trails are more rugged. Parking is available near the entrance. ✨ Overall A must-visit in Penang if you enjoy nature. It’s not only a botanical garden but also a blend of manicured beauty and wild rainforest edge. Perfect for a walk, photography, or just to enjoy fresh air away from the city buzz.

I visited Penang Botanical Gardens on a weekday morning and found a peaceful, green space close to George Town. 😊 Entry is free and the main gate has a small cafe for overpriced coffee and cold drinks. There is a small foodcourt too by the entrance. I walked the main path from the gate, past the lily pond and along the stream toward the quarry and secret garden, and the whole route is shady, easy to follow and full of birdlife. If you like bird watching this place is excellent. 😍 I added the birds found in this area image to my review for you birdwatchers out there 😌 A small stream with gentle falls runs through the park and there are lawns and benches for resting. Trails are signposted and some lead into longer hikes toward Penang Hill if you want to explore further. Wildlife sightings are frequent: I saw dusky leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaques, lots of birds and many butterflies. Practical tips: go in the morning for the best experience, bring binoculars and a camera with a zoom lens for birdwatching, and keep snacks zipped away because macaques can get bold 😅. The park map and the bird ID images I attached are helpful for matching what you see to names. Overall, the main walking loop from the gate to the quarry and back will give you the best variety in one visit and can easily take two to three hours if you stop and watch. Facilities are basic but generally clean, with public toilets near the entrance and limited parking. Bring water, sun protection and insect repellent for comfort.

Nice gardens, monkeys were interesting and a bit of fun. I headed off on a steep side track that lead to some water falls, very peaceful but what a sweat on the way up.

Beautiful place to experience the tropical nature. It has many areas to explore and enjoy. I liked the Curtis trail through the jungle and started my hike towards Penang hill via Station 46 from the gardens.

A wonderful cafe serving up a nice breakfast, lunch or dinner spread that will satisfy any foodie (yes, even the fussy ones 😋). Located at Farlim Square just a stone's throw from Sunshine Central mall, this joint offers a delectable range of bistro favs, with a number of signature entrees absolutely worth trying!!! Highly recommended (for newbies if it's your first visit): 1. Chef KT's Zesty Chicken, a fine tasting grilled chicken dish for those seeking a lighter touch than a run of the mill chicken chop); 2. Grumpy Sailor Fish n Chips (Oh wow, such a generous punnet of deliciously fried barramundi chunks!!! Even the grumpiest sailor would cheer up and eat with relish 🤩); 3. Seafood Thai Spaghetti (the savoury version, doused with pad kee mao sauce base will surely win your heart ❤️). For sides and appetiser, try out their lovely Pumpkin Soup (which sells out fast!!!), and for dessert, nothing beats their divine Tiramisu (such a fine tasting confection is seldom offered at this reasonable price-great value & great taste combo!!). If your are a smoothie junkie, you must not miss out trying the Hanky Berry Smoothie, which combines a riot of fruit and berry flavours with lovely caramel notes infused). Exceptional table service and a very knowledgeable manager and staff make dining here a true pleasure. 5-stars all around, of course!!! 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟😊😊👍👍

118 Cafe 饮食中心 is a spacious and clean eatery located near the bronze truck monument. It offers a variety of authentic dishes from hawker style stalls, making it an ideal spot for families or large groups. The menu features options like Hokkien Mee, Kuey Teow Teng, salty sour noodles, bitter gourd pork mix soup, wok hey char kway teow, and wonton noodles.
I can’t recommend 118 Cafe Penang enough! Every dish was a delight. The Char Koay Teow was bursting with flavor, and the Ipoh Hor Fun was incredibly smooth and satisfying. The Tom Yum Noodle had just the right kick, and the Iced Coffee was so refreshing! They also offer fantastic Western and Thai options, but the Nasi Lemak stole the show—it was truly outstanding! My family and I had a wonderful time, leaving with our hearts and bellies full. If you're in Penang, make sure to stop by this amazing cafe!

I have not been to this place for more than a decade and in the old days, I recall there are a lot of nice hawker food around but I think over time, the hawkers have probably left and also the cafe most likely change ownership already. But the good news is this place seems renovated and in pretty good condition in general. But of course the most important thing is the food. I tried the Char Kuey Teow with duck egg and it is pretty good and acceptable. Definitely not on par with the famous CKTs around Penang but still OK. I also tried the apom balik and it is nice although I would have prefered the outer area to be more crispy type instead of soft. There is also a van outside the coffee shop selling fried chicken and it is pretty good and no wonder there is quite a bit of queue here! I think the hawker stalls here is pretty limited and I hope they can expand more stalls. Else I am not surprised it was not that packed when we went. Overall a decent place but not really recommended if you want to savor all the popular hawker food Penang is famous for.

Slightly higher priced on the majority of food there and an average rating on the taste of food at this food court. Notable food at this food court is the Bitter Gourd Soup Stall and the 'Chu Char' Stall (Cook-to-order stall) like Spicy Potatoes Leaves, Emperor vegetables cooked in garlic and Sour Plum Chicken. We ordered the Sambal Potato Leaves, Fried Brocolli, Fried Fish Spring Onion Ginger, and Lotus Root Soup... pair with Tau Ew Bak (Black Sauce Pork) and Fish Maw Soup. Averaged set-up of tables and chairs, slightly roomy (not packed like a sardine kind of arrangement), airy with high ceiling or no ceiling if sitting outdoors. At this current price, the Chu Char and the Fish Maw soup are very reasonably priced.

A convenient rest stop that’s a 10min walk away from Penang Hill, good place to grab some local food and chill. There isn’t a wide variety here but the wanton mee is worth getting as the noodles are served al dente. For something light, the pork organ soup is clear and peppery, pretty refreshing and not to filling. However the lu rou fan from the same stall was quite disappointing. We also tried the pancakes from the cart right outside the kopitiam, it was warm and slightly sweet, good to snack on for some refuel!

Sri Anandha Bhavan: A Place to Explore, But Manage Expectations Stepping into Sri Anandha Bhavan, especially for those familiar with traditional South Indian dining, the first surprise is the presence of non-vegetarian options—it definitely breaks the mold! The initial impression is quite positive: many dishes are laid out with a presentation that looks very yummy, promising a fantastic meal. Honestly, most of the dishes we tried were just 'okay'—nothing truly spectacular, but passable. The most disappointing part of the visit was the Rawa Thosai. It was not crispy at all, which is the whole point of a good Rawa Thosai, and I was genuinely let down by this item. The coconut water we ordered was also poor and seemed ruined or off. Based on the food and service we received, this is a place you can try once to explore the full menu, but you shouldn't go in expecting greatness. Perhaps we just caught them on an off day—if you have better luck, your experience might be much better! This is my honest, personal view of our experience. Note/Disclaimer: This is 100% my personal view based on one visit. Food quality and service can change daily, so please don't take this as gospel. Think of this as one person's experience—yours might be totally different (and hopefully much better!).

good rotis and banana leaf rice. service for former shuts down for lunch. best bet for proteins is the grill. follow your nose, which is to say the siren call of the mutton. good eating, but handicapped by impossibly high expectations. tad too overcooked, and too heavily spiced. chicken is also good, in minor key. also last chance pit-stop onto food desert that is green lane south-bound. fresh milk is available here, so that makes it worthwhile. pasembal bru or masala chai is excellent for that purpose. as are the various shades for ladoo. which is short a green. ghulab jamon, otoh, is taking it too far.

One of the worst branches I’ve ever visited — not because of the food, but because of the staff’s poor management. Since today is a public holiday, many people came to dine. There were 12 of us in the family, and since there were no empty tables, we entered the air-conditioned room. The staff didn’t stop us or mention that the room was booked, so we placed our order. We didn’t see any “Reserved” signs on the tables either. Although the food arrived late due to the crowd, we understood and didn’t complain. However, while we were still eating, a group of people suddenly came in. One of the men scolded the staff, claiming he had booked the room. Immediately after that, the staff came and asked us to move out — even taking away our plates while some of us, especially the kids, were still eating. How is this our mistake when your management failed to reserve the tables properly or inform customers beforehand? Why should we be chased out just to please a few so-called “VIP” customers? This is such a shameful way to treat paying customers — and worse, fellow Indians. Where is your dignity and respect? By right, the person in charge should have informed us before we entered the room or at least placed a “Reserved” sign on the tables. I’m extremely disappointed by the way the staff handled the situation. We paid for our meal — we were not eating for free.

We usually go for their banana leaf set but this time wanted something different and tried the a la carte menu. The Mutton Rogan Josh and Chicken Butter Masala are definitely must orders as both dishes had tender meat well soaked in rich flavorful gravies. The Mutton Vindaloo came with perfectly cooked potatoes though the mutton pieces were a bit too bony. The Cheese Naan wasn’t as cheesy as expected but it still paired nicely with the gravies. To end the meal their Masala Tea and Bru Coffee made with fresh cow’s milk and served piping hot were absolutely delightful. Overall a really satisfying experience.

Chew Jetty is a UNESCO historic site and a traditional stilt village by the sea, dating back to the 19th century. It's one of the last Chinese settlements on Penang Island, with wooden stilt houses built along a walkway. The location offers a unique and adventurous spot for proposals, with its rustic charm and picturesque views of colorful sunsets and boats tied to the docks.
A fishermen village where you can walk around to observe their marine lives. You can also look for souvenirs to buy like cloth bag. pin badge, and cute little things. Walking to reach the end of the way to see the sea view with clear blue sky. The weather is nice, too.
Kantavee W — Google review
Chew Jetty, the largest and most famous of the historic Clan Jetties in George Town, Penang, is a fascinating UNESCO World Heritage site offering a unique glimpse into a traditional waterfront lifestyle. It is not a single floating structure, but a community of floating houses—or, more accurately, stilt houses—built entirely over the water on wooden piers. These rustic, interconnected wooden homes have been continuously inhabited by descendants of the Chew clan since the 19th century, creating a living, breathing village seemingly suspended between land and sea. Visitors can explore the long wooden walkway to witness this unique way of life. While primarily a residential area, the jetty has become a popular tourist attraction, with many ground-level rooms in the houses converted into small shops selling souvenirs and local treats. For those interested in the water perspective, boating is a popular activity. Tour operators often offer short boat rides from the jetty, providing scenic views of the stilt houses and the George Town coastline from the sea. The cultural and religious heart of the community is marked by its temples. There are two significant Chinese temples on Chew Jetty. The temple near the entrance is dedicated to the God of Heaven (Jade Deity), and another temple at the very end of the main jetty is dedicated to the Taoist Sea Deity, Haisen, to ensure good fortune and safe journeys at sea. While the primary temples follow Taoist and traditional Chinese folk religion, a prominent, striking structure adjacent to the Chew Jetty is the beautiful Hean Boo Thean Kuan Yin Temple, often referred to as the Floating Temple. While this temple is not physically on Chew Jetty, its stunning location perched right on the water makes it a major highlight when viewing the jetties from the coast or on a boat tour.
Mohammed I — Google review
It's your average tourist hotspot with loads of souvenir shops along the way. A traditional jetty that's now a popular tourist spot for pictures. If you ask me personally, it's worth a pit stop if you're already in the area - especially if you're exploring Armenian Street and the cafes in its vicinity. However, do keep in mind to be respectful because most of the houses along the jetty are still homes to locals. People actually still live there. So when taking pictures, be respectful! 😬
Sunantha S — Google review
Chew Jetty may be small, but it's still a nice place to explore. It has a unique charm and local vibe. I enjoyed walking through the wooden walkways and supporting the local shops. The souvenirs here are surprisingly affordable—definitely cheaper than in other touristy areas. Worth a quick visit if you're nearby!
Maria H — Google review
Chew Jetty in Georgetown is smaller than I expected and mostly surrounded by street vendors selling souvenirs and snacks. There is not much to see besides the water at the end of the walkway and the stalls along the way. It is a quick stop if you are nearby but not something I would spend much time on.
Lydia C — Google review
Chew Jetty is a remarkable glimpse into Penang's past. Built in the 19th century by Chinese immigrants, this wooden village on stilts offers a unique experience. Walking along the wooden planks, you'll pass colorful houses, small shops, and temples, all while enjoying the sea breeze. It's a peaceful spot to explore, photograph, and learn about the heritage of George Town. A must-visit for history enthusiasts and those seeking an authentic cultural experience

This magnificent mosque, with its striking whitewashed façade and Mughal-style domes, serves as a central place of worship for the South Indian Muslim community. A good place to visit and pray to the goddess of mercy. You can buy the offering items at the counter. It can get in a little smoky outside. Inside is ok. There are shops outside selling giant incense sticks and other items for praying. You can also buy a red lantern to hang for good fortune. Do note there are quite a number of pigeons which can be a bit of a nuisance.

A Beautiful and Peaceful Historic Temple This Kuan Yin temple is over 100 years old and absolutely worth a visit. The moment you walk in, you can feel the deep sense of peace and spirituality. The temple is beautifully maintained, with detailed architecture, serene altars, and a calming atmosphere that makes you want to stay and reflect. It’s clear that this place has been lovingly cared for over the years. The craftsmanship in the carvings and decorations is truly impressive, and the surroundings are clean and welcoming. Whether you come to pray, make an offering, or just admire the history and beauty, this temple is a meaningful experience. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area. It’s not only a religious site, but also a cultural treasure.

Though not like many other more stunning Buddhist temples across Aisa, it certainly has the unique charm to be fully localized in its one way.

It's temple. This is the familier temple for Japanese. Many of the temple for Buddhism in Penang for Theravada Buddhism. I think this temple is for Mahayana Buddhism which is popular in Japan and also China. The atmosphere is completely different from the two different Buddhism.

The staff was so rude. Especially the one, the man inside that wear yellow shirt in the right side inside the temple. He shouted at the visitor that don't know the incense couldnt bring to inside. (The temple hasnt clear instructions and also hasnt staff that give directions.) After that he just put the "long face". The visitor may be wrong, but they dont know and the visitor was elderly, and a tourist not locals. May he just could remind them with normal tone. So rude. The temple is to worship Guan Yin, literally Goddes Of Mercy While the staff has not mercy. Wont come back again. Not recommended. Wish / may the temple be better and friendly to every one.

The Goddess of Mercy Temple, also known as Kuan Yin Teng or Kong Hock Keong stands as the oldest Chinese temple in Penang, serving as a significant religious and cultural landmark for the local Chinese community since 1728. Originally dedicated to Mazu, the sea goddess revered by Hokkien seafarers, the temple transitioned its primary devotion to Guan Yin, the Buddhist Bodhisattva of Mercy, by the early 1800s. This shift reflected the changing demographics and spiritual needs of the growing Chinese immigrant population in Georgetown. Beyond its religious functions, the temple historically served as a communal hub and a neutral ground for mediating disputes between different Chinese dialect groups, notably the Hokkien and Cantonese communities. Its role as an arbiter continued until the establishment of the Penang Chinese Town Hall in 1881.

Very nice place, no entrance fee. Free joss sticks available in the temple, just get from there and donate what you like. Beside the temple there will be few shop lots, selling the prayer items. Very expensive there, better buy in the temple.

If you are into optical illusions and acting, this is a nice place to visit. The ticket price is reasonable, the waiting time is acceptable, and the staff are friendly and helpful. We had a great time inside! The souvenir prices are also ok, not jacked up.

The Upside Down Museum is a fun spot, especially if you enjoy taking quirky photos. The whole place is designed with rooms and furniture flipped upside down, so you get creative shots that look like you’re walking on ceilings or hanging from walls. The staff are very friendly and even guide you on how to pose for the best pictures, which makes the experience more enjoyable. It’s not a huge place, so you can cover it in about 30–45 minutes, but it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in George Town. Great for families, kids, or anyone looking for something lighthearted and different from the usual sightseeing. Just be prepared that it can get a little crowded on weekends and holidays. Buy the tickets and there's a waiting room which callls your number

The place is good. But u were not given time to enjoy the museum on your own. There are staffs every corner wanting to take pictures or videos for U. Once done of the section they will usher u go to the next section. I just wanted to be left alone to enjoy the museum with my kids. And I want to take pictures on my own without the staffs bothering me. We only spend around 15mins for the whole museum since staffs keeps in ushering us until the exit. It's very annoying for me and my 3 small kids to enjoy the museum on our own.

All the things are upside down here from the cashier, locker's number till all the things inside. Many interesting set here and each set has photographers which helps to take photos and help to arrange the pose for free so you just need go follow instruction and have good photos. They know well the location where the best to take photo for the set. It is a recommended visit when visiting Penang.

Shopping
Prangin Mall is a small, but popular, budget shopping destination in Penang. It has a range of affordable clothes, shoes, and accessories stores as well as local brands. It's located near Komtar Tower and is a great place to pick up cheap items.
Have been here many times and I could see that businesses here are quite good. Good to do window shopping or hanging around to see the latest market trends.
Forest A — Google review
Went to jalan jalan since the mall is right by the hotel. I also smelled all the different pasar malam stalls that had opened for the ramadan month. So much different varieties, each stall competing for your attention and wallet with its unique offerings.
Keng L — Google review
Located in the heart of Georgetown, Penang, Prangin Mall enjoys direct connectivity with all over Penang as the main Bus Stop is located in the mall. One can take the free-of-charge Rapid Penang CAT bus from anywhere within George Town’s UNESCO World Heritage Site to get to Prangin Mall. As most Rapid Penang bus routes on Penang Island pass through the Komtar bus terminal, Prangin Mall can also be reached via any Rapid Penang bus heading to Komtar. The mall was opened to the public in 2001 as Phase 3 of the Komtar project. The shopping mall faces competition from the newer 1st Avenue Mall, and today, Prangin Mall caters mainly to lower-income and middle-income earners. To add on, Parkson, its main anchor tenant, has closed its outlet within the mall. It has a total of six floors, including a sub-basement level Consider as an OG (original) classic and the earliest mall in Penang, Prangin Mall is linked to 1st Avenue and Komtar via connecting bridges but certain link bridge has since been closed especially from Komtar side. The mall offers affordable fashion options and coworking space for freelancers and entrepreneurs alike. It also has a convention hall for events. The central location and public transportation accessibility make Prangin Mall a very convenient destination for exploring the vibrant streets of George Town. The mall has been declining eversince due to competition from the other surrounding mall and due to its old age and facilities, much of shoppers has since migrated to other High end and more nicer malls (1st Avenue). The mall will always remain the OG mall in the Penang scenery and has since carved a name for it. The mall has its own multilevel and multistorey parking or you can choose to park at 1st Avenue and walk through the link. For tenant store wise, you can't expect much as it's an average normal mall but it's more in the focus affordable items especially for fashion and clothes, food and beverage and service. The mall most tenant is individual brand smartphone shop, smartphone repair and smartphone accessories shops. Theres no anchor tenant but theres a cinema located above the high floor. Overall, one could consider the environment inside to be 'an air conditioner coffee shop style environment'
Chris K — Google review
Interesting mall with dozens of stalls offering anything to do with mobile phones. Plus many other associated shops and stalls. On my visit on a Tuesday there were many units mainly on higher floors that were closed but still many good shops. Not quite so upscale as next door mall but still well worth a visit.

I had an unpleasant experience. I was going to go down the escalator when the shop owner chased after me and asked abt my phone then proceeded to take my phone from my hand and walked back to his shop. The lady boss then tried to big sell things to me and refused to return my phone when I told them I was not interested. In the end I bought a screen protector from them and 3 floors down I found that it had peeled off. I went back to showcase my issue and was put down by being accused of purposely peeling the screen protector off and all sorts of words put into my mouth. No point arguing a lost cause. Just accepted that I have been "tricked".

But it rude by poor management team of Prangin mall . The person in charge simply disqualified us without further clarification and dint inform us , yet the decision been make without any investigation. We only notice when we see the person reach after us get prize but not us. The person in charge not even inform us until we ask . Is a small game and good effort by the kiddergsrden and daycare school . But Prangin mall management team rude it all . Very bad feeling about the way they handling this issue without investigation and proper communication . Personally Strongly not recommend for ppl ,school or any company to work together with this mall to organise any event in future .

Prangin Mall is linked to 1st Avenue Mall through a link bridge. Nearby is Komtar. Almost the whole ground floor, is occupied by traders specialising in handphones, handphone accessories and SIM cards. The next two floors are occupied by shops dealing in clothes and bags. There are a few shops selling food like 3 Cafe. It is disheartening to see that many shop lots are empty.

Toh Soon Cafe, nestled in a narrow alley off Campbell Street in Penang, offers a nostalgic experience of old-school kopitiam dining. The cafe is frequented by food enthusiasts eager to savor their charcoal-grilled Roti Bakar generously slathered with butter and kaya. The quaint setting and the aroma of traditional Malaysian breakfast delights like polo buns and grilled toasts draw both locals and tourists alike.
I came here because many people recommended this place, so I decided to try a few items: the coffee milk tea, kaya toast, and toast with soft-boiled eggs. Everything tasted great! It was my first time trying toast with soft-boiled eggs—I thought the combination would be strange, but it turned out to be surprisingly delicious. The toast was crispy on the outside and soft inside, and the eggs added a rich, creamy texture that paired really well. The kaya toast was also flavorful, with just the right amount of sweetness. And the coffee milk tea was smooth, strong, and not overly sweet—perfect to balance out the meal. Overall, a great experience. Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking to try something different and tasty!

I just happened to see this cafe. It was after lunch time and no queue at all. The menu is pretty common like the other cafe. The toast and nasi lemak tasted good but definitely not the special one. The best i ordered was their ice coffee. Looked bold but the taste wasn’t that strong, maybe because the evaporated milk they used. The order came fast. Reasonable price. The staffs were polite. I enjoyed the visit, gracias ~

This one at the small alley along the Campbell Street is the original stall. It is very popular (especially for tourists) and we always see people queuing for a table. The charcoal grilled roti baker and the local coffee are very nice. The staff are very efficient. There is another Toh Soon Cafe (its branch) at the Bishop Street which has more space, more choices of food, and with air conditioning. If you do not want to wait, you could go to that stall.

I had high expectations for the famous Toh Soon Café, but honestly found it a bit disappointing. The charcoal-toasted bread had no hint of charcoal aroma — it tasted like plain, soft toast and wasn’t crispy at all. I also tried the Horkasai drink, which was overly sweet with almost no coffee flavor. On top of that, the environment was quite uncomfortable; it was very hot, and being right next to a drain meant occasional unpleasant smells. We waited around 30 minutes to get in, which made the overall experience even less satisfying.

This is the most memorable kaya toast I've ever had in Penang. It's fun to eat toast like it was in the past, not in a restaurant. But What is charcoal for? I don't think it's good to put charcoal scent on it, and it's fun to watch and use it for grilling. Toast doesn't smell charcoal. I don't know if it's just flying right away when I eat it. Why does toast have to smell charcoal? Anyway, this toast shop offers five types of bread and should be praised for allowing customers to choose their taste. It's Starbucks in the toast world. Malaysia Singapore It is a kaya toast that can be eaten at all times, but it provided a special choice. I Cannot eat white bread with kaya toast everyday for My healthy. It's a sugar bomb combination to eat. Jam + white bread + sweet lokcal coffee. Unlike other toasties, this place The kaya is not too much sweet and have a soft and delicious local coffee. So tastes more good If there are no get in line(que) Go~Go~during the morning opening time 😎😋

Not sure why the rating is so low. It’s not amazing, but it’s definitely not bad either, it’s good, solid local food. The stall is tucked away in a small alley, and there was about a 15–20 minute line when we went. We tried the charcoal toast with kaya and butter, along with half boiled eggs. The nasi lemak and curry puff were tasty, though I wish they had been served hot since they were already sitting in a basket on the table. I’d stop by again for a quick snack if we were in the area and wanted something light. The drinks were very good too.

Hameediyah Restaurant, established in 1907, is a renowned heritage Nasi Kandar spot in Penang. Despite being slightly pricier than other options, it remains a popular choice due to its rich history and delectable offerings. The restaurant's signature dish, Nasi Kandar, features a variety of meat, chicken, and vegetable fritters with flavorful stews. One must-try item is the Ayam Ros.
We were recommend to come here from a local bar tender fit the food. He was not wrong, we were so pleased to actually come here. Our first few days here were not impressive due to hot spot tourist traps and less authentic places, so this was a blessing. Then the and guy recommend us to go next door to the coffee shop for true local coffee and breakfast. Anyway back to Hameediyah - chicken, delicious, basmati rice, amazing, the sauces and graveys were nice, little spice and full of flavour 😋 we shared our meal and we were SO full. They really piled it on. Service was lovely and they guided you in all of it.

Stopped by for lunch. We were tourists and had never heard of this place before. But, it was clearly very popular - busy and crowded; locals mostly. Ordering and paying was quite a challenge. It is sort of “buffet” style. You start by ordering a plate of food and point at the protein and veggies you want. The plate is then passed to someone else who enters your order into the computer. After that, you are given a plastic card with your order, which you take to the counter. Once paid, your food is brought to your table - which is 3 doors down the street. If you want to order the Murtabak, you order it at your table (3 doors down the street) and not at the “buffet”. My mum ordered the biryani with chicken. She also had a side of okra. The okra was still raw. I am not sure if it was supposed to be. The biryani lacked flavour. The chicken was alright. I ordered the Murtabak with beef. I did not really enjoy it. It expected it to be crispy and flaky. In reality, it was a bit soggy. The beef itself was cooked well. The onions were undercooked. It was not salty and/or spicy. It had a sweet aftertaste, like they added sugar and cinnamon.

Hidden menu from Spooky till 🎃 After sampling Hameediyah’s famed dishes, it’s fair to say the culinary experience was a real treat for the taste buds. The biryani burst with aromatic spices, while the murtabak was every bit as comforting as its reputation suggests. Yet, one can’t help but note that the pricing left a rather odd taste. Apparently, the bill varies depending on whether you can present a MYKAD or MYPR—meaning locals get one price and foreign visitors another, despite identical portions. This distinction isn’t exactly advertised upfront, which could catch travellers on the hop. The real twist came with the Mango Lassi, mysteriously charged at a higher “fresh Indian mango” rate from what seemed like a hidden menu. None of the staff could give a clear answer or show the price anywhere in the shop, which felt more than a little eerie. A cracking meal, but transparency on pricing would make the experience far more palatable.

This was recommended to us by a local. The food was very good and there was so much of it! It's not cheap but you also get a lot of food. We went in the evening and the line was much shorter than during the day. The staff were friendly and quite helpful as this was our first time experiencing Nasi Kandar. For people going there for the first time, you select what you want and pay in one shop, and then they bring the food to you in the dining area a few doors down.

Nestled in the heart of Penang's lively George Town, JEN Penang Georgetown by Shangri-La offers a vibrant 4-star experience with its warm and inviting accommodations. The hotel's prime location provides easy access to the UNESCO World Heritage Site and nearby commercial, business, and shopping areas.
Smooth check in process. We picked a room without bathtub and got assigned to a room next to the elevators. The noise was not as bad as I anticipated but still you could hear people walking and talking in the corridor. Room is spacious and clean at first sight. Loved the wooden floor. Equipped with a hairdryer, a mini-fridge and an electric kettle. Other amenities include slippers and 2 bottled waters daily. Charging ports available on both sides of the bed. 2 types of pillows provided one softer than the other. Air-conditioning was well-functioned. However, water from shower is quite weak. The TV quality was also not up to standard. I felt like I was watching shows in 480p. Location is good as supermarket is found nearby, along with many other restaurants. Hotel lobby features live music every night.

I had such a great experience staying at this hotel. Throughout my stay, the staff were consistently kind and helpful without being overbearing. One night I came back to my room to find a handwritten note, a lovely heart-shape swan towel, and a small pouch with hand sanitzer and face mask — just a simple thank-you for staying. Totally unexpected, and such a thoughtful touch. Overall, the hotel itself was clean, comfortable, and in a great location, but what really made it special was the way the team went out of their way to make sure I felt taken care of. I’d absolutely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone who appreciates great service with a personal touch.

A Pleasant Stay at JEN Penang – Comfortable and Well-Appointed I recently enjoyed a most comfortable stay at JEN Penang, where we were accommodated on the Club Floor with access to both breakfast and evening cocktails. Overall, it was a most agreeable experience, combining convenience, comfort, and a thoughtful range of amenities. The Club Lounge offered an inviting and relaxed environment in which to unwind. The evening cocktail service was particularly commendable — the food selection was both varied and of excellent quality, featuring a delightful mix of Western dishes and Asian hawker-style favourites, with a different selection presented each evening. It was clear that care and creativity went into the preparation, which made each visit to the lounge a pleasure. I must also commend the older gentleman on the team, whose professionalism and warmth stood out throughout our stay. He delivered service with genuine attentiveness to all guests, regardless of background or ethnicity, and exemplified the courteous spirit that truly defines good hospitality. A small observation, however, concerns one of the young ladies on staff during the evening cocktail hours. She appeared to show particular favour towards a certain/especially couple seated by the window ( meeting room area ) whose demeanour towards other guests was, regrettably, less than gracious. While this made no difference to our own experience, it might be worth noting to ensure that all guests continue to receive the consistently excellent service for which JEN Penang is otherwise well regarded. That said, our stay was most enjoyable overall. The property is well-situated, the facilities are well-maintained, and the general standard of service was both efficient and warm. In every respect, JEN Penang remains a fine choice for a comfortable and satisfying stay in the heart of George Town.

Stated high floor with city view but ended up with a low floor with backyard view, feeling cheated choosen the room type due to description stated, and willing to pay rm500+/night because of this, ended up.....Not a kid's friendly hotel as no facilities for kids at all, not even a child play room

Kafe Ping Hooi is a popular spot in Penang to savor authentic local delicacies such as char koay teow, prawn mee, Ngo Hiang, loh mee, and kaya butter toast. The star of the menu is the char koay teow, a stir-fried dish featuring flat rice noodles cooked in pork fat with soy sauce, chili, shrimp paste, seafood, bean sprouts, chives, and egg.
Compared to popular hawker dishes like Hokkien Mee or Koay Teow Th’ng, Ark Tui Mee Suah (Duck Drumstick Vermicelli) is a lesser option in Penang. It’s a delicious dish, but its complex preparation might be why fewer stalls serve it. And like many local delicacies, every Ark Tui Mee Suah stall has its own unique twist! The key difference? The broth. Unlike other noodle soups cooked in large pots, its broth is prepared individually for each serving, infused with flavours from the meat and a blend of herbs. At Ping Hooi Coffee Shop, the soup has a lighter herbal taste—perfect if you prefer a milder herbal profile. 🥢 Despite the name Ark Tui Mee Suah which literally means Duck Drumstick Vermicelli, these stalls often offer other protein options like chicken and pork ribs, as well as different noodle choices like rice noodles.

Ordered chow kuey teow and lobak. Try one lobak + one fried pork (seller said it's his best seller), it taste good, the deep fried pork still juicy and crunchy, lobak is not overly season, maybe only 1 complaint is the lobak sauce is super sticky..... Chow kuay Teow is one of the best chow kuay Teow I have in this trip, comes with 2 huge prawn, and few small 虾蛄, hence the price of 11 (I forgot) but definitelyl more than 10, yet the taste is great, especially I ordered it together with duck egg. It's a place I will come again as mainly local patrons to the shop

Ordered the Fried rice, they used the method and ingredients of frying Char Koay Teow. Saw a review in Facebook and decided to try out. RM 10 only got lapcheong, egg, 1 big prawn 2 small prawns, bean sprouts etc. Recommended 👌🏻 very satisfying, next time will try the Char Koay Teow.

Ended up here because the famous 113 duck meat kuey teow soup next door was full. The CKT here was delicious and not oily. Came with 2 big fresh prawns. It's a small serving and just perfect for breakfast. Didn't really like the kopi ping, too sweet and watered down.

The cafe used to have the Tiger Char Koay Teow stall. We came here to try the replacement char Koay Teow stall. It is okay.

I came to try again thinking it was still Tiger CKT but found out later that they have moved plus it was raining heavily so what the heck. My verdict, if you like strong flavours with rich aroma from the wok hei, you can try this. You can taste that it has a distinctive savoury flavour from the unique blend of sauces. It comes with usual prawns, cockles and mantis prawn. My recommendation is to go for the duck egg and if you can take chili, go for spicy. Overall it's good plate of CKT. Food for thought, I noticed the lady frying looked familiar. She looked like the same person when it was still the Tiger CKT stall plus the uniform is the same orange.

Opens from 6:30am, Kafe Ping Hooi offers a variety of hawker food such as Char Kway Teow, Lor Bak, Hokkien Mee and Lowe Mee etc. We sampled Lor Bak from Lobak King, Char Kway Teow from popular Tiger Char Kaoy Teow and Hokkien Prawn Mee next to him. Tiger’s CKT stood out from the other two dishes but still not the best I have had, perhaps the best in the area but not in Penang. 😌

Jawi House Cafe Gallery, located on Armenian Street, is a charming and laid-back eatery that offers a delightful selection of Malaysian and Jawi Peranakan cuisine. Chef Nurilkarim has revitalized this old shophouse to celebrate the culinary heritage of the Jawi Peranakans, who are descendants of indigenous Malays marrying Indian, Arab, Turkish, and Persian migrants.
The food at Jawi House Cafe Gallery was absolutely delicious, so good that we went back a second time! On our first visit, we had the Jawi Briyani Chicken Rice, Mango Kerabu, and the Malay Style Fried Chicken. Every dish was packed with flavour and beautifully presented. The Mango Kerabu especially was a standout, fresh, tangy, and perfectly balanced. We loved it so much we returned again, and this time tried the Tomato Rice and Fish Curry, both were excellent! The fish curry was rich and aromatic, and the tomato rice was so flavourful on its own. Of course, we couldn’t resist ordering the Mango Kerabu and Fried Chicken again.. it was just that good! Highly recommended if you're looking for authentic and flavourful local cuisine with a unique Jawi twist. A must-visit when in George Town!

Every dish we tried was a delightful culinary journey. The Rose Chicken was incredibly tender with a perfectly balanced, aromatic curry, and the Prawn Biryani was flavorful and generously portioned with succulent prawns. Don't miss their refreshing Mango Salad either – it's the perfect zesty counterpoint to the rich curries. Highly recommend for an authentic and delicious Jawi Peranakan experience!

Really worthy Michelin guide. Everything we had in Jawi House was so good and worth the very penny. Nice and nostalgic interior. Definitely coming back again to try the rest of the menu. Service is top notch.

Google wrote open at 11 am , we arrived at 11.10 am but its not opened, instead they told us its opened at 11.30am. Ordered the fish curry as it was their recomendation, sadly its utterly dissapointing, its so super diluted , to be frank ur random nasi kandar store would serve better and thicker fish curry. They told us initially it was Red Snapper, but only to find out that it was Ikan Siakap instead.. I could give credit for their cucur udang. Theres so much to be improved on from this place. So much for the michelin hype

Everything we ate at Jawi House was delicious!!! My boyfriend has celiac disease therefore follows a strict gluten free diet, Jawi was able to accommodate this as many of the dishes on the menu are naturally GF. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about each dish and the ingredients they contained. They were even able to offer gluten free dessert options. When placing the dishes on the table the staff stated which dishes were gluten free as we were dining with friends to avoid any confusion, we really appreciated that. 100% worth a visit for authentic, delicious and reasonably priced dishes in Penang!!!

It was aight … pricey a bit and interesting, to say the least. Food tastes ok, maybe because I was expecting more with a Michelin star but it’s aight … the highlight of the menu is probably the different set of Rice - Lemuni, tomato and kacang. The best of the lot was the sambal fish which tasted more like sweet and sour, which is probably the normal peranakan cuisine which was what we wanted to try. So am amused with how that went. One slice of fish was rm20 while the mixed vege was rm15… mixed feelings with this but yeah maybe I’d come again. Deco was splendid and the baba ganush was new for me 😅

Like a museum turned restaurant (or is it the other way around?), the space is cozy and darkly furnished with plenty of books, exhibits, and displays. Quick and cordial service. The upper level features a large living area, musholla, and restroom. We had a wide variety of dishes delivered to our table, including two varieties of tasty rice, an exceptionally tasty mango salad called Manggo Kerabu, Malay Fried Chicken, beef rendang (which pales in comparison to the rendang made with beef in Indonesia), Jawi Nasi Lemak, Jawi Bryani Chicken Rice, laksa, and grilled fish. The visually appealing blue color of the rice is a plus. Every detail is meticulously displayed. You simply must eat at this Georgetown restaurant.

An absolute gem of a restaurant with amazing food and great service + aircon so you can escape the heat while enjoying a delicious meal. I need gluten free and the staff happily accommodated by letting me know which options were available. I had the beef rendang and a flavoured rice and wow - the flavours were beautiful and the meat was super tender. My partner can eat gluten and had a beef brisket sandwich which he said was excellent. Highly recommend this cafe!
