Shopping mall
Shopping
Aman Central is a sprawling and contemporary indoor mall located in Alor Setar, Kedah, Malaysia. It is the major shopping complex in the area and offers a wide range of shops, a cinema with ten screens, a 30-lane bowling alley, eateries, and various retail outlets. The mall also features entertainment options such as arcade centers and cineplexes.
Overall, the mall is absolutely fantastic! The entire B1 floor is a haven for food lovers, featuring an extensive variety of restaurants offering cuisines from all around the world. It’s a paradise for anyone seeking a culinary adventure. The mall itself is impressively spacious and beautifully designed, with elegant, high-end facilities that elevate the shopping and dining experience. One of the most striking features is the giant cup at the entrance, which serves as a unique landmark and is visible from a distance, making the mall stand out even more. During the festive season, the Christmas decorations are nothing short of breathtaking. The attention to detail is remarkable, with dazzling lights, beautifully adorned trees, and creative designs that create a warm and magical holiday atmosphere. Whether you're here for shopping, dining, or simply to soak in the festive spirit, this mall offers a little bit of everything, ensuring a memorable visit every time!

Mall is ok. Nothing to comment and absolutely ok. But facilities for ‘Surau’ or Prayer room location direction needs to be upgraded. Around 1 hour we have been searching for the surau location. At first searching for 5F, then GF, end up asked the counter says need to go to 5F again but still couldn’t manage to find until we asked the random people. Total hours of finding is almost 2 hours!!! Then after reaching, the surau was full of people. Haha. What a day🥲 Really disappointed with the direction of the surau. Management please take note on this. Much appreciated.

One of My Favorite Spots! Aman Central is such a great place to hang out. It has everything — good food, shopping, a cinema, and a nice vibe overall. The mall is always clean and well-maintained, and it’s super convenient whether you’re going with friends or just chilling alone. Definitely one of the best malls around!

Alor Setar Tower, standing at 165.5 meters, is a prominent landmark in Alor Setar, Kedah, Malaysia. It serves as both a telecommunications tower and a popular tourist destination. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views from the observation deck and dine at the revolving restaurant while exploring the gift shop.
When you are in Alor Setar, this is the one tourist attraction you need to visit. The staff were all friendly and the view from the top is great. They have an area with a glass floor for the brave! It's a little expensive, at 37RM.
Paul A — Google review
The entrance is on the ground floor behind the entrance of the Aman Central Mall. RM 8 for adult and RM4 for kids (Malaysians). It's windy up there so you won't sweat up your shirts. The telescope machine is free to use. Also, you can walk from Alor Setar KTM Station to the mall or Alor Setar Tower but need to cross fews dangerous roads.
Esma Z — Google review
Alor Setar Tower. Pay 8 ringgit. Go upstairs take lift. Enjoy the beautiful scenic view around the city. This is just amazing. Because not many tall towers nearby, so you can view everything! You can see gunung jerai from here. Spend maybe 30mins to 1hour on the covered deck or open deck. Just amazing. Spectacular. Thank you for reading
Hakim M — Google review
Please change the lenses of your telescope. They've turned yellow due to UV exposure and aging... they look terrible, it's really sad. Don't embarrass the name of Kedah in the eyes of tourists. People are paying for the tickets. Please, do something — it's embarrassing.
GHOST — Google review
Nice facility, hope the management can put signage along the corridor and indicate the historical landmarks such as the istana , masjid zahir and others. We enjoyed out time up at the tower.
K S — Google review
Coming from Kuala Lumpur, where KL Tower and the Petronas Twin Towers dominate the skyline, I didn’t feel the need to head up to the top of Alor Setar Tower. Yet, even without the full tourist experience, the tower left its mark on me. What makes it special is the context: in a small, laid-back town where most buildings are modest in height, this single tower rises confidently, instantly becoming a landmark you can’t miss. Unlike the competition of skyscrapers in KL, Alor Setar Tower stands in striking contrast to its surroundings. That difference gives it a quiet kind of grandeur—less about sheer scale and more about presence. You don’t have to go up to appreciate it; just seeing it dominate the skyline is enough to understand why it’s a point of pride for the city. It’s a reminder that even a lone tower can redefine a town’s character.
Prem K — Google review
Best experience with kids. Staffs are friendly. Just opposite of Aman Central & a walking distance from our hotel. Ticket also cheap.
Aisyah H — Google review
One of the iconic landmarks in Alor Setar that you should visit. To look at Alor Setar city from the birds' eye view gives the historically appreciative and amazing feeling as you can spot combination of new modern buildings, old shop rows, palaces and even spectacular Gunung Keriang can be seen from far. Kedah River snakes around shops and buildings renders the vibes of serenity amidst the bustling time of rush hour. Should you feel that you want for more, you can challenge yourself to walk on the glass plank or to have a dine at a restaurant with amazing view around. For kids, there are other interesting activities that they can try like venturing the basement haunted house (open occasionally), riding in the pool or even playing at the playground. Simple as it may seem this landmark is definitely a place for family to get together or chill in the evening.

Food court
China Town Food Court, located on Jalan Putra in Alor Setar, is a bustling complex offering a wide variety of Chinese hawker food favorites and affordable eats. This food haven is within walking distance of the Big Clock Tower at Medan Bandar and offers dishes like hokkien mee, char kway teow, fried rice, mantou, lobak, otak-otak, and more.
A wide variety of food here. It was quite a nice dining experience for me unlike other reviewers. Highly recommend the 鸡丝面 (located in the corner of entrance), very springy noodles, it’s very famous here. Tried other dishes too and it’s not bad, not in the picture but chicken wings really juicy and tender. For drinks, there are fruit juices and can opt for the XL cup, perfect for the hot weather.

Lot of Variety foods to choose. Foods are yummy. Recommend the claypot curry fish, Ikan bakar(BBQ fish), Chinese dumplings & fried sweet potato.

Big Chinese hawker centre with many stalls and great variety of food. Nice food among those are grill seafood, kai see mee(steam chicken noodle), thai barbecue pork, wanton mee , lobak and popia. The taste of the kerabu pork is nice but too spicy. Fried koay teow is not nice. Korean fried chicken (from 台北小站)are not authentic, not recommended if you want the taste of authentic korean fried chicken. There is a stall (Chiak Ka Ka) selling light finger food/ snack where their fried fish skin is very nice. The kerabu chicken feet and kuih chap from the thai food stall are very nice.

Masjid Zahir in Alor Setar is a striking state mosque with impressive Moorish-inspired domes and towering minarets. Built in 1912, it stands out amidst the modern architectural concepts found across Malaysia. The mosque is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike, situated near other attractions such as the State Museum and the birth home of Malaysia's fourth Prime Minister.
This was the first place I went to the moment I arrived Alor Setar via train. The mosque, albeit its old age, seems well-maintained. Many of the facilities look brand new. The main prayer hall at the front is air-conditioned. As a tourist, it's nice to the traditional pool for ablution. We don't have that in my country. I also noticed the steps outside that lead visitors to the mosque, which is elevated a bit above ground level. They are designed ingeniously to also house your slippers and sandals underneath. That's something I don't see every day. The mosque is located near an open square that is probably used by the locals for recreation. It is just a stone's throw away from a palace, which currently serves as a museum. A solo traveller like me appreciates the tranquillity that this house of God provides.

Masjid Zahir. Must visit if you are at Alor Setar. Unbelievable view. Oldest mosque in Alor Setar. Older than Mahathir. Mahathir is 100years this year. This mosque is older. Already there before he is born. Great place for picture, for muslim to pray, and others can join for a visit from the centre in the mosque. Best! Make Kedah Great Again! MKGA!

Masjid Zahir in Alor Setar is a stunning piece of history and one of Malaysia’s most beautiful mosques. Its grand architecture, featuring majestic domes and intricate designs, stands as a testament to Kedah’s rich heritage. The mosque’s serene atmosphere makes it a perfect place for reflection and prayer. Well-maintained and spotlessly clean, Masjid Zahir offers a calm and peaceful environment for visitors and worshippers alike. Whether admiring its elegance from the outside or experiencing the tranquility within, it’s a must-visit landmark for those appreciating historical and spiritual beauty.

Masjid Zahir in Alor Setar, Kedah, is not only a prominent symbol of Islamic heritage but also a highly commendable place of worship. Strategically located in the city center, it offers easy access for both locals and tourists. The mosque features a spacious parking area, accommodating a large number of vehicles, which is particularly convenient during Friday prayers or festive events. Its surroundings and interior are exceptionally well-maintained, reflecting a high standard of cleanliness and order. The mosque’s striking architecture—marked by Moorish influence, domes, and graceful minarets—adds to its serene and majestic atmosphere, making it an ideal location not just for prayer but also for spiritual reflection and cultural appreciation.
Muhammad H — Google review
Masjid Zahir: Architectural Design & Urban Context Architectural Design: The Sacred Geometry of Empire and Eternity Masjid Zahir’s architectural language is a synthesis of Mughal grace, Indo-Saracenic balance, and local Malay sensitivity. Completed in 1912 and designed by the Malayan architect James Gorman, it echoes the grandeur of North Indian mosques while grounding itself in the climate and culture of Kedah. Layout and Form: The mosque follows a centralised layout, with a large main dome crowning the prayer hall. Surrounding this central dome are four smaller domes—one at each corner—creating a balanced five-dome composition. These symbolise the Five Pillars of Islam, uniting form and faith. The qibla wall faces westward toward Mecca, with a mihrab intricately carved and flanked by minarets that both define the skyline and serve aural purposes. Key Architectural Features: Black domes (rare in Southeast Asia) boldly contrast with the stark white stucco walls, creating a high-key, almost mystical aura in the tropical sun. Moorish arches—with horseshoe and ogee profiles—are repeated in arcades, entranceways, and windows, creating rhythm and spatial transparency. Ornate calligraphy and floral arabesques are subtly incorporated, but the mosque maintains a clean elegance, avoiding visual overload. Interior columns are circular and slender, reminiscent of Persian prayer halls but made from imported black marble, giving a sense of both lightness and permanence. It is a building that breathes—the open verandahs and colonnades allow for natural ventilation, a necessity in Kedah’s sultry climate. Urban Setting and Context: A Mosque at the Civic Core Masjid Zahir is not tucked away—it is deliberately placed at the urban centre of Alor Setar, acting as both the religious axis and cultural fulcrum of the city. Civic Integration: It stands at the head of Dataran Alor Setar, opposite the Balai Besar (Grand Audience Hall) and the State Art Gallery—forming a symbolic triangle of spiritual, political, and cultural power. Nearby is the Balai Nobat, where royal musical instruments are kept—tying the mosque to Kedah’s monarchical traditions. This urban triangulation resembles older Islamic cities—Cordoba, Cairo, Isfahan—where the mosque sits not as an isolated place of worship, but as the heart of public life. Street Rhythm & Accessibility: Roads radiate outward from the mosque like spokes on a wheel, guiding both pilgrims and common folk to the spiritual core. Local shops, nasi lemak stalls, goldsmiths, and book vendors encircle the mosque, creating a vibrant Islamic urban village. The river and paddy fields lie not far beyond, offering a liminal shift between sacred geometry and the agrarian landscape that has sustained Kedah for generations. Symbolism in Urban Fabric Masjid Zahir’s prominence is intentional—it was built to be seen, heard, and approached from all sides. In the philosophy of Islamic cities, the mosque should be like the heart in a living body—circulating wisdom, anchoring morality, and radiating communal harmony. Here, it does just that. As you approach from Jalan Langgar or Jalan Pekan Melayu, the domes reveal themselves gradually, like a crescendo in architecture—guiding the eye, then the feet, and finally the spirit. A Closing Reflection “To stand at the gates of Masjid Zahir is to be caught in the stillness of history’s breath. Domes rise like celestial signatures, archways embrace you like an old friend. In this mosque, time seems to pause—where call to prayer meets civic square, and the sacred fuses with the everyday.”

Terrace Forty Eight is a popular spot in Alor Setar known for its extensive selection of imported wines and liquors. The Spanish bar and restaurant offers a chilled environment where customers can relax while enjoying occasional live music. The energetic staff provide great service, and the place is known for its variety of drinks, including Guinness Stout on tap. While the food receives mixed reviews, patrons appreciate the warm and cozy atmosphere and friendly owners who often engage with customers.
Really enjoy coming here—the food tastes great, the service is always friendly, and the atmosphere is lively yet still comfortable enough to relax. The live band adds such a fun vibe and makes the whole experience even better. Whether you’re here with friends for a night out or just want a nice place to chill, Terrace Forty Eight never disappoints. I definitely recommend this spot if you’re looking for good food, good music, and an all-around enjoyable time.

That’s why keep coming back, and bringing friends and fam whenever/whoever’s back in town! Even their toilets la😂✨kena mention! Not just one, so tak yah tunggu. And all clean , well kept! When drinks that good and have many, last thing u want is to have to relieve at a pissed-stanky cramp loo🫠 And ofcourse the best is after the reno, it houses DJs and local artists !! Soo happy and proud got to see Zamaera in friggin Alor Setar! Terrace48 did great job organizing! X yah jenuh2 pi KL wei. And very accommodating to fans from all ages🤘🏽 And lot cute spots for ootds selfies etc after the reno. I just dine-in your cafe and it is totally not worth a penny regardless of environment, services and value. First, the environment for the ambience light is good but now the shop is newly renovated. Why the sound proof is so lousy during raining days. It is totally cannot hear each other when rainy day. Second is your staff and services. You are charging this price and your newly hired staffs is totally don’t know anything about the food in MENU.Asking what is the detailed of the food and say he is newly hired. I can forgive you are newly hired but if it is not up to par, please train until you can. We are customer. We are hope to get a proper service. Even we not order a drink because your staff never ask and just leave after take our food order. The food order is consume so much time after asking what is this and he need to go consult the manager again and again. Even my wife is sushi roll also not taking the order. The value is totally not up to par to the services. I paying this price and I receive a more decent service s from other cafe. I really disappointed with your cafe and won’t go again.

The restaurant stands out among the many dining options in the area with its flavorful prawn dishes and inviting ambiance.
Found this place on Google map and we decided to try it based on the good review. The environment is ok, there are many photos on the wall. Food is ok, just that the tomyam soup is a bit thick to drink it alone. The food portion is generous tho we ordered small for all the dishes and price is reasonable.

Really love Medina Thai Restaurant! The food tastes super good, full of real Thai flavor and just the right amount of spice. The Tom Yum and Pad Thai are my favorites! The place feels cozy and the staff are friendly and helpful. Portion size is big too, so it’s totally worth it. Definitely a nice spot to chill and enjoy tasty Thai food!

Best place to bring family makan here. Makanan sedap2, big portion, worth the price.. ambiance cozy and the most important thing is sedap, still craving for the siakap kengsom, siakap 3 rasa, seafood tom yum. Definitely will come again! And the pandan cake so sedap too! Having dinner on Wednesday nite.

Elegant decor that reflects Thai heritage, creating a pleasant dining experience. Very beautiful interior and atmosphere, the food was authentic and flavourful. My recommended dishes are Standouts include Otak Otak Thai and the Siakap Tiga Rasa Medina! Quality service : 100% good.

Tom yum ok. Telur dadar is not thai style. Authentic ones js like Parathai. Sotong celup tepung is wet batter style. Kangkung celup tepung failed miserably. Oily and soggy. Learn how Boat Noodle or Tuk tuk does it. Get a better chef to commensurate the ambiance.

If you want a true taste of Thai cuisine, here is the place. A variety of dishes and desserts can be found here. It's like being in Thailand.

The Paddy Museum in Kedah is a unique attraction dedicated to the world's staple food, rice. It features exhibits on rice cultivation, agriculture-focused paintings, and a panorama of villages and paddy fields. The museum is designed to symbolize bushels of harvested rice stalks and is one of the few rice museums in the world.
Great experience! 360 mural rotating floor worth every penny and the space is spacious. Drawing is spectacular! Some improvement; needs to add more information related to paddy and also video to explain about paddy.

This museum is nice but not friendly to elderly people and OKU. I bring my 70ish old grandma to this museum since she hasn't visited this place since her early days. When you arrive, you need to climb very high stairs in order to reach the front door of the museum. No lift for elderly, no concrete slabs for wheelchair users or strollers. Even when you get in, there's stairs everywhere. There's one lift but it is only connected to the ground floor (this museum has 3 floors), which is connected to the souvenirs site or artifact display. The lift can only fit 3 people at a time. Those handicap groups can't reach the 3rd floor, which is the most important floor in the museum. In my first picture, it was the stairs leading to the 3rd floor. The 3rd floor is the moving platform that showcases 360° painting of paddy fields. Again just to remind you, my grandma is very old and has a pretty bad eyesight. The stairs leading up were very dark, I even need to use my flashlight to shine the pathway so that my grandma won't trip. The stairs are also very high. It took us minutes to arrive there, and we're very sorry for the people behind us. Also another thing that I am wondering...why there's only 1 exit even though there's a lot of doors leading outside from the museum?? And the exit is the most far away from the parking lot??? The exit that they opened was the exit to the toilet, which is at the BACK of the museum. We need to walk under the scorching sun (you know how hot the weather here is) for minutes to get to the parking lot, which is IN FRONT of the museum. You can just open 2 exit doors, one leading to the toilet and another to the parking lot?? It's not that hard. Mind you, I bring my GRANDMA here because she really loves this place and she wants to go here when she still can walk. But the service and conditions of this place makes the experience so lame. I hope you guys do something about this. At least put an escalator or something so that all people from all walks of life could use it, including disabled people. Museum should be accessible to everyone, not for youngsters or healthy person. Thank you for coming to my TED talk:D

The building looks great… Entrance is affordable. Not disable friendly… from main entrance to the top floor point of interest, no lift… Some rice infomation that you can easily find online… The top floor need to climb up 3 floors of stairs then you find a rotate platforms surround by static pictures, with bad and stuffy AC… Seriously tons of potentials wasted… instead of static picture, u can either use image projection, or the roof should be 360 degree of glasses so you can have the view of the real paddy fields?! Some of the showroom is dusty stuffy and no AC. There are toilet in the building, but only for working staffsthat get paid monthly salary… Visitors that paid for ticket have to get out of the main building to a toilet hut that is not shaded walk path mean you will be under rain/sun… Might as well just get to the real paddy field to get the real feel and take picture…
Pang J — Google review
We rushed there before their lunch break and had only 30 minutes but enough to walk finished all the exhibits. I misread someone else’s comment. I thought on the top of the museum can get a 360 panoramic view of its surrounding but it turned out to be a 360 degree mural instead. It’s not too bad but I think a real view of the surrounding ( paddy fields and Mt Kerniang) would even be more astounding! I thought designers might have considered the paddy fields ain’t be going to stay so colorful and nice whole year round.

We visited Muzium Padi during the public holiday and were very disappointed because all the lifts were not working. Many elderly visitors who are unable to use the stairs could not properly explore and enjoy the entire museum. It was very inconvenient and frustrating. A museum should be accessible for everyone, especially on busy days like public holidays. We hope the management will improve the maintenance of the facilities.

From fish-feeding and horse riding to playing with balloons and kites, there's something for everyone. The park also features local vendors selling food and drinks. It's a great place for families to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. With a 1km loop around the lake, it's perfect for jogging or taking a leisurely walk.
Nice place to have some peace of mind with music fountain. Went there close to 10pm stil open and not too crowded to sit by the stairs to enjoy the music fountain. Kids friendly.

Nice place with tracks for walks. It’s area usually clean except on weekends when people come during evening time to picnic, the next morning you will see rubbish everywhere. People need to be more civic minded to keep the place clean & throw rubbish into rubbish bins instead of all over the park & sometimes into the lake. Few occasions can see the cleaner have to rake the rubbish out from the lake, pity them. The musical fountain which was constructed was never really opened for public viewing. The gates to the place is always closed. Waste of resources, the state government should make it as a tourist attraction & air some shows on specific days. The toilets are big & clean, however lacking in hand soap & toilet rolls.

The Kedah State Museum, formerly known as the Kedah History Museum, is a must-visit destination for those seeking to learn about the rich history of Kedah, Malaysia. Established in 1957 and later relocated and renamed, this compact museum houses a diverse collection of manuscripts, textiles, and other artifacts that showcase the city's history. The museum's popularity led to funding for a new venue in 1997 to better exhibit its collections.
A lot of displays both indoor and outdoor too. Greeted by security officers to fill attendance record and had pictures taken for gifts sold when exiting. Its free and air-conditioning. A lot of displays here covering 3 levels I believed. Very informative. Cannot take pictures inside.

1. The Kedah State Museum showcases the long history and rich cultural heritage of Kedah. The exhibition is very detailed, and everything from ancient artifacts to traditional crafts is impressive. By visiting, you can gain an in-depth understanding of the past and culture of Kedah, which is a rare experience for history and culture enthusiasts. 2. However, taking photos is not allowed in the museum, which is a pity for those who like to use cameras to record travel memories. Therefore, although it is a bit regrettable, the overall experience of visiting the museum is still worth it, especially if you are interested in the history and culture of Kedah

Caffe Diem is a popular coffee and tea cafe in Alor Setar, Malaysia. It's known for its relaxed atmosphere, making it a great place to visit with family, especially during hot weather. The cafe offers a variety of flavors and dishes, including favorites like Kedai Dee Tomyam and Iman Koeyteow Kerang.
Had a meal with friends here. Ordered several items, and I would like to highlight some of them. First was the Greeno Curry, a mild spicy green curry pasta with mussels and beef slicing, fresh ingredients and aromatic! Coming up next, the chicken chop, juicy and tender grilled chicken with pepper sauce, highly recommended. On the drinks, Chinatown Sunset and Honey Oat-presso were really something special here, worth for a try! On the service side, overall was excellent. Despite you have to order at the counter but the waiter was helpful in a polite manner. The deco was some kind of nostalgic with chill and relaxed ambient. Couple of tables with a variety size on both floors, just nice for gathering or me-time. Lastly, I highly recommend and would definitely visit again if I had a chance to travel here! Keep the good work going on, thank you.

Stumbled on this cafe while walking around. The banner upfront told me I had to have a cuppa. Nice ambience, old school shop lot. Friendly staff. But OMG one of the best coffees I have tasted. Tried the flat white, kopi susu and Gula Melaka Shakerato (my personal favourite). Guess I will be heading back daily for my coffee hit!

It’s really disappointing to have dine in this cafe after my last visit few years ago. First the order system was bad. When we found a place to sit, there’s no one there to take our orders. So we went to the counter and found out that we need to order there. Fine. We had no choice but to do that. Then after the order they asked about our table number. Now here is the thing… if I ordered there and what if someone took my table. I can’t be at the table and at the counter on the same time. The proper way to order is to ask us to order at the counter the moment the staff see us enter the cafe. After we order, we will be given a standee with number. Even the food we ordered was really not on par comparing with few years back. The pasta that we had were dry and with two pieces of plastic look alike meat. The fries on the chicken chop was not evenly seasoned. The salad was not fresh. The pandan basque cheesecake were so so. The coffee NY cheesecake was too sweet. My husband ordered a glass of iced water at the counter but didn’t deliver. The experience with washroom was the worst during this season. There weren’t too many people in the cafe. It’s so terrible. Terrible with mess around which I was too embarrassed to describe. I wonder how could a PAM winner cafe to have such bad managed washroom. This cafe was one of my favourites when I travelled back to Alor Setar few years ago. But not now.

Masjid Al-Bukhari in Alor Setar is a beautifully designed mosque inspired by Arabian-Islamic architecture. Its elegant domes, arches, and intricate details reflect a blend of traditional and modern styles. The mosque is not too big, yet not too small — just the right size to create a sense of grandeur while still feeling welcoming and serene for worshippers. One of the grandest mosques in Alor Setar. Located at Jalan Langgar, not far from the Alor Setar (U) Toll, it is recognizable by its splendid mixture of Persian, Uzbek, Arab and Egyptian architectures. One can feel the vibe of being in the Middle East by getting here. The facilities in the mosque are well-maintained, from toilets to ablution area to the surrounding landscapes. The main prayer hall is also mesmerizing to be looked upon which is located at the upper level. One has to climb up a flight of stairs from the ground floor, however, there is a lift at the main entrance for the needies and elderlies. Not sure whether the lecture hall beneath the main prayer hall is open during prayer times or not. And since the prayer hall is quite open, no air-conditioning is there where the condition may get stuffy during Friday prayers. The parking lots for worshippers and visitors are a lot around the mosque complex. The toilets are also near the parking lots, which are suitable for travellers' use when visiting the mosque to pray.

Nasi Kandar Yasmeen is a well-known and beloved dining spot in Alor Setar, offering an array of delectable Indian and Asian dishes. The restaurant is highly regarded for its meticulously prepared dishes, rich in flavorful spices. Among the crowd favorites are the hot fried chicken, boiled eggs, and curry gravy served with fresh vegetables. This establishment has garnered positive reviews for its quality cuisine and inviting ambiance, making it a must-visit for food enthusiasts in the area.
This nasi kandar shop is hands down the best in town. It’s a must-visit whenever you’re in Alor Setar, and I never miss a chance to stop by whenever I’m back in my hometown. The taste is consistently perfect, and the quality remains similar each time I visit. The Ayam Madu and Sotong Kari Potong are absolute must-tries—they’re simply delicious. While the queue can sometimes be quite long, the wait is definitely worth it. The seating area is sufficient, so you won’t have much trouble finding a place to sit, but parking can be a bit of a challenge as it’s quite limited. Overall, the price is reasonable for the quality of food you get. This spot is definitely a go-to for nasi kandar lovers.

🌟 Nasi Kandar Yasmeen (Jalan Stadium), Alor Setar – A Culinary Legend! 🌟 If you’re ever in Alor Setar and don’t stop by Nasi Kandar Yasmeen (Jalan Stadium), you’re seriously missing out on one of the best makan experiences in Malaysia. Hands down, this place is a local legend and the absolute king of Nasi Kandar in the north! From the moment you step in, the aroma of freshly cooked curries, sizzling meats, and fragrant rice wraps around you like a warm hug. The ayam goreng is crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside – fried to golden perfection. Pair that with their kuah campur banjir (don’t be shy – let them flood your plate!), and you’re in food heaven. Every bite is a masterclass in flavour – spicy, savoury, and rich with tradition. The selection is huge – from succulent daging masak hitam to sotong sambal that melts in your mouth, everything is served piping hot and full of flavour. Even the humble telur rebus becomes magical when it’s soaking in their legendary kuah. What truly sets Yasmeen apart is the consistency and quality. Whether it’s 9am or 11pm, the food hits the same every single time – no compromises. Service is fast, the staff are friendly, and the place is clean and comfortable despite the crowd (which tells you how loved it is!). Locals swear by it. Tourists come back for it. And once you’ve tried it, you’ll be comparing every other Nasi Kandar place to Yasmeen – and nothing quite measures up. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 10/10. Legendary. Iconic. A must-visit.

Mat Cucur Udang

Restaurant
When you think of Cucur Udang, the delightful golden prawn fritters often sold by street vendors come to mind. However, in Alor Setar, there's a unique twist on this beloved Malaysian snack at Mat Cucur Udang. This establishment has been a staple for decades, evolving from humble beginnings at night markets to a well-known restaurant that draws crowds eager to savor its heritage recipe.
- One of the best cucur udang in Aloq Staq, what a legend! - As a local, I would prefer here number 1, number 2 cucur udang at Kopitiam Stadium (breakfast) 👏🏽 - Always singgah here whenever balik Aloqstaq with my wife - Pricy a bit but truly worth every bites. - Selalu order 1 set, minta udang lebih 2 ekor 😻
Izzat R — Google review
If you ask me, the verdict was just Ok-ok. The cucur udang is plain without any spring onion. Batter was just average. The dipping sauce is also average.

Cheap cost and large portions while still being so delicious, it is the best Cucur Udang in Malaysia so far that I have had Even the drinks (store beside) is so cheap and delicious Come here and enjoy the food, highly recommended

The place offer a good and crispy cucur udang. I would give a score of 7.5/10 because the dipping sauce is mid but service is good. Noisy since it’s beside main road

Best cucoq udang. Love the gravy, impossible to find in Klang Valley. The cucoq and gravy is like match made in heaven. Do come if you are around.

Northern style prawn fritter to go along with a small bowl of peanut dipping sauce. A set consists of a deep-fried fritter with a few side dishes such as hard-boiled egg, tofu, etc. A must try if you happen to be in Alor Setar.

Chinese restaurant
The Chinese restaurant, Guo Yean Restoran, impresses with its appealing food display and delightful flavors. The atmosphere is pleasant, creating a welcoming ambiance for diners. The addition of newer songs to their karaoke system would enhance the overall experience. Moreover, the establishment excels in both cuisine and service quality. Notably, the VIP room boasts four spacious tables and an excellent karaoke setup.
Private room has huge table for up to 20 guests and provides a karaoke set. Excellent food and services.

Standard dropping year on year. Will always have our CNY reunion lunch here, this year found a rubber band in the fried rice, and a spider on the finger food deco. The female staff serving the roasted piglet even cracked a tasteless joke that it was cruel to kill such a small pig when our table mentioned the cuteness of the piglet. For the rubber band, the boss was seated right across the table but did not bother to even come when we raised the issue. The staff just came and removed the rubber band like nothing happened. Overall the quality and standard is dropping very quickly. There are several up n coming restaurants in the area that will be worth your money. Will not come here again.

Overall the food is okay the portion is good, but please fixed the air conditioner. It's very warm. I personally would recommend the roast pork stir fry in soy sauce it's just superb. And the homemade signature tofu is really tasty. The seafood noodle is really good as well. The salted fish pork belly is really nice with visible salted fish.

One of the big Chinese Restaurant in town. There are a few halls and ViPs Rooms available. Suggesting to call and make reservations before coming. There food quality is average. It used to be very good. Hope the restaurant can put more efforts in improving it. Parking is easily available. You might find some locals collecting RM2 if you park along the roadside.

Big and new air-con restaurant in Alor Setar. One of the best restaurant for wedding banquet. We had book a Vip room for my brother wedding dinner, the deco is good and it comes with Karaoke set, service is good too. The foods taste great, except for the steam fish. Overall is very satisfied, we had a great night.

We had our dinner at this restaurant yesterday and was served by one male staff, who is short with glasses and slighly bald. He was very rude and threw the menu on the table. My family and I were appalled by his attitude. We decided to leave but Raymond Lim one of the captain came and asked us if we needed assistance. He was very friendly and introduced us the best dishes from your restaurant. We had an enjoyable dinner in the end.

It's a popular spot where locals and visitors alike can indulge in retail therapy, savor delicious cuisine, and treat themselves to various amenities all under one roof. The mall holds nostalgic memories for many as it remains vibrant with an array of businesses on the ground floor including mobile and gadget shops.
Just go there, pretty empty but there is like the center of the phone shop. The food court price is very affordable and the salon is awesome. There are people who sell clothes, etc. The bowling centre is still good and my favorite part, the karaoke is close

Pekan Cina Alor Setar, also known as Chinatown, is a well-preserved area located 17 km from the city center. It offers a glimpse into the 1950s with its restored shops and unique house decorations. Despite traffic and parking issues, visitors can explore numerous shops and cafes in the area. The Chinese market here sells various products and food wholesale, providing an authentic taste of traditional Chu Char dishes.
Heaven shopping venue for all your personal requirement. Juggle the quoted prices to have a good buy. The shops we went were friendly and they spoke the local malay northern dialect. Some buildings came with beautiful murals to picture the multi races operating their businesses in that area harmoneously.

Pekan Cina or Chinatown, one of the oldest part of the city of Alor Setar. There are alot of shops around. Many good cafes can be found here. Jeti Pekan Cina is also located here. The only issue is the bad traffic and vehicles parking terribly blocking the road. If you want to come here, just book grab or taxi. And it can be very hot especially during the middle of the day.

A lot of street arts including the portrait of Tun Mahathir and the late Tunku Abdul Rahman, The first Prime Minister of Malaysia. There are many rusty wall and buildings. Street photographers will love this place. The roads are quite busy because most shops a wholesaler. There are also a few restaurants by the Riverside where you can see the famous Masjid Zahir and Alor Setar Tower.

Rumah Kelahiran Tun Dr. Mahathir offers a glimpse into the early life of Malaysia's fourth Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, who was born in Alor Setar on December 20, 1925. The museum is well-maintained and free to enter, featuring his birth house, two exhibition halls, and an auditorium with personal belongings and family effects on display.
Free admission. Remember to take your shoe off while entering the house. The Birth House of Tun Dr. Mahathir is a palm wood house located behind an old ice factory. After several restorations, it is now open to the public for free. You can see some historical photos and reports. The two adjacent exhibition halls display items used by Tun Dr.Mahathir and his family. We came on Feb 1 (Federal Public Holiday), there a some local tourists hanging around, and a children keep jumping on the bed which is not allowed....hope those parent with active children can be more alert on this.

Muzium Kota Kuala Kedah, also known as the Kuala Kedah Fort or Kuala Bahang post, is a historical complex located on the northern bank of the Kedah River. Built in 1771 by Sultan Muhammad Jiwa to protect the state of Kedah and its capital, Alor Setar, it has witnessed attacks from Bugis, Siam, and Acheh.
A must visit place when you are in Alor Setar. It took around 30 minutes from Alor Setar to Kota Kuala Kedah. A heritage for Kedah citizen and Malaysian as a whole. A great place to start in order to appreciate what the independent means. It was unlike visit A famosa fort in Melaka which simbolize the power of the invaders but now you visit a fort built by our own ancestors to protect and rules this land using their own hand. Mount Keriang Recreational Park

4.1
(550)
Attraction
Nestled just 8 km northwest of Alor Setar, Mount Keriang Recreational Park is a captivating destination that invites nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. This ancient limestone mountain, resembling an elephant and standing at 218 meters tall, boasts a rich geological history dating back 250 million years. As you explore the park's lush greenery and diverse flora, you'll find well-maintained hiking trails perfect for getting your heart rate up while immersing yourself in the serene surroundings.
Behold the wondrous Mount Keriang, a place steeped in ancient magic, where the limestone rock formations of yore whisper tales of bygone times. From its lofty heights, the rolling paddy fields unfurl like a tapestry of gold. For those who seek adventure, the Gunung Keriang Recreational Park awaits, adorned with winding trails and emerald foliage, and offering enchanting vistas from its viewing gazebos. As the stars dance above, one can traverse the paths to the summit, gazing upon the fertile rice plains below. While the park is a haven of wonder, the passage of time has dimmed some of its charms. The children's playground, once a place of mirth, now suffers from a lack of care. Though the signposts and maps may no longer be legible, the magic of the park remains undimmed. And, as if by fate, a street market has sprung up next to the park, where one can find wondrous delights in the form of food, clothing, and sundry items. However, it should be noted that the crystals on offer, while enchanting, may have been extracted from the caves without proper care.

Not well maintained, the overall is so bad it's saddening. It was supposed to be a pretty and safe place to seek comfort but when I went to the park, it was like a deserted, haunted house. The lake water is so green because of algae. The grass is overgrown, the resting place is dirty. It can be a good potential place to attract visitors but the bad environment ruined it all. Not recommended.

Nasi Lemak Haji Ali is a must-visit eatery in Alor Setar, Kedah, renowned for its unique take on the beloved Malaysian dish, nasi lemak. Established in 1958, this family-run restaurant boasts a rich history that has attracted loyal patrons over the decades. The menu features fragrant rice paired with spicy sambal and succulent side dishes like juicy roasted lamb that will leave you craving more.
If you're visiting Tun Mahathir's house, make sure to stop by this place. It's a cozy Mamak restaurant that serves Nasi Lemak (without sambal & egg.. Mamak style curry only). The chicken Nasi Lemak, complete with a generous serving of papadom and iced Nescafe, costs RM 14. They accept eWallet QR but you've to ask! 🥰 DI SINI ADA JUAL 1. AIR CINCAU 2. JAGUNG CINCAU 3. Known this restaurant by red book app, also asked a grab driver of Alor Setar whether the restaurant is recommended or not, the grad driver also recommended it. I visited the restaurant at noon, around 11.55am, not crowded, I ordered nasi and ayam bawang and a bottle of limau ais, the portion of the nasi ayam bawang is generous, the dishes and the rice are so tasty, especially with the gravy, the ayam bawang is savory. I should have planned my stay in Alor Setar longer than can try more dishes at this restaurant. The owner is a senior citizen, very friendly.

It's quite sometimes I didn't having meals here and I was a bit disappointed because the taste of the kuah is droping or maybe the jockey didn't mix well all the gravy.

We were amongst the earliest here for our brunch, all the way from KL. Opens as early as 1130am (except fri 2.30pm). All time fav nasi lemak utagha. Must try. Beware of ‘kuah banjir ’, can be 🥵🌶️
Ma Y — Google review
The photo of my plate of Nasi Lemak does not do justice to the flavors of the kuah campur at this little nasi lemak place. The queues were still evident even at 9pm at night. There isn’t much to pick from other than the usual suspects but the flavors are worth the simplicity. We complimented our dish with some burgers from the stall outside. Turned out pretty good too !

One of alot Alor Setar people famous Nasi Kandar "Kuah basah", their taste nice and spicy, but after meal feel thirsty. Their rice very good. HALAL Parking opposite road or behind this shop have huge parking bay, (avoid street parking make traffic jam/summon) Price: RM 12.8 Rice+fried chicken+lady finger+egg / Sirap ice.
Chow S — Google review
Don't be confused as this is not your typical nasi lemak. In the north, they are close to the likes of Nasi kandar. Order your rice topped with fried chicken, daging hitam, curries and splash them up with 'kuah campur'. If you dislike overflooding of sauces in your plate, do stop them before it's too late. I suggest left some rice untouched so your mouthfuls won't be too overwhelming with the kuah strong taste. The fried chicken is out of this world when it's hot. Highly recommended joint.

Restoran SMR Nasi Lemak Royale

4.1

Restaurant
Restoran SMR Nasi Lemak Royale is a renowned eatery with multiple outlets in Kedah, some open for lunch and others for dinner. They have also expanded to Kuala Lumpur. The restaurant is famous for its nostalgic Nasi Lemak, which features spiced yellow rice instead of the usual coconut or white rice. Each plate is generously flooded with at least 6 types of flavorful gravy, creating a delightful dish known as "kuah banjir."
This is the first time coming to Alor setar and this is also the first time. I said that whatever restaurant is open I will eat at that restaurant and this restaurant was the only one that was open so I wasn't disappointed, very delicious.

The original nasi Kandar Royal shop there is a few copycat shop in Alor Setar. There is original carrier of nasi Kandar beside the rice station in front of shop. Food is delicious. Old style Mamak rice shop.Fried Chicken + ice drink won't cost more than rm10 in 2024.

Still my best Nasi kandar. Beef, chicken , sotong, fish and dalcha are my favourite. The mix of different gravy is the game changer and makes them unique.
Wong S — Google review
The gravy spicy & hot. My local friend said expensive. 2 plate of half of rice, black beef, half salted egg, okra, 1 boil egg, chicken, 1 sky juice & 1 ice coffee for RM19.30. Feeling sorry for the service.. We didn't stand up yet, they all ready swept the table.. 🙄
Anis — Google review
A nostalgic restaurant well known for it's Nasi Lemak. Here's the thing, Alor Setar's version of Nasi Lemak is actually Nasi Kandar for those not from Kedah. Difference is the rice. It's not coconut rice and not white rice. It's spiced rice probably with tumeric because it's yellowish. The "kuah campur" is amazing. Easily 6 or more gravy (seriously I lost count) is poured on each plate until it's flooded. Kuah banjir! It's really good but the overall taste is on the sweeter side but no sambal here. I would rate it as moderately spicy. The chicken, we tried both fried and masak merah. Chicken is fresh and juicy but I personally find it lack of marinade. It would have scored perfect points if the chicken was marinated with more spices. Still it's not bad. Pricing is on the pricier side similar in KL. Chicken, cabbage and egg will set you back about RM10, excluding drinks. Overall if you like Nasi Kandar, please try it once. It's a love or meh thing but one advice, be prepared it's not the usual Nasi Lemak.

The kuah is sweet and the dishes are served cold during lunch hour..Rm46 for 2 big prawns, fried chicken & egg. Not fresh and taste also soso 🤦🏻‍♀️🫠 Not gonna come back ever

The original Nasi Lemak Royale... The best in town for me 😋 Word of advice, ask the 'joki' to mix spicy gravy if you like it spicier. For me, I'll let the joki do his thing and enjoy it because every nasi kandar place has its own specialty and unique taste. I prefer to enjoy their differences rather than complaining all the nits and bits.
Kilo A — Google review
It was really good & delicious nasi lemak royal. The spice of ayam goreng was tasty on its own way.. But most of the reviewers said that it was pricey. Not sure about that since i just had Nasi Lemak Ayam (not sotong or else) and 2 lemon tea for RM11. Service memang mantap laju,padu.. This SMR could easily beat Saddam or Kudus if bukak dekat KL.

5 stars for the service and taste. Friendly staffs that explained in detail about the menu. Food was tasty and the waiting time was bearable.

Surprised with just a few customers in relative to online reviews. Ambiance was fair. Realised that the price before was outdated in Maps. Ordered lamb and chicken briyani which were good but they were more like Thai Khao Mok rice instead of Briyani. The lamb was however tougher that expected and dalca was quite tasteless. Lamb baked pasta was good. Chicken grill was also good but quite salty. Coconut mango was too sweet, had to let the ice melt 1st. Ice tea was quite tasteless. Customer service was good and fast. The hand soap was not refilled. Price was expensive and quite overpriced. With the overall experience, 30% off the actual price is more relevant.

This place used to be so much popular backdays. But now, especially after covid, the staf says its hard to reach even 1k sales. Well, here is my opinion they can improve. 1. Make sure their sauce presentation fresh. Last time i came, their tomato sauce looks not fresh like its been at the outside for so long time. 2. Freeze their bebola side, because some of the food taste bad. My wife eat the crab filament and she says its taste some bad. Overall its all good, as sign of my support for their restaurant, we stay there for almost 5 hours and forget to do only one thing. Snap photos! Here a a good thing about them. 1. Cheaper price than their competitor. The nearest steambot restaurant charges more than them. Some are 35, some are 28. Labo labo charge for 24 per head. 2. Got super speed fan, and not hot inside. Overall, all the best.

Bali Bali Hai Cafe is a shining place in Alor Setar, offering a mix of Chinese and European cuisine. It's known as a good spot for gatherings and has received positive feedback for its polite staff and delicious food. Whether you're looking for a quick meal or a place to hang out, this cafe provides an inviting atmosphere. With its combination of Chinese and European dishes, it's an ideal choice for those seeking diverse culinary experiences in Alor Setar.
This is the only pub near Kuala Kedah Jetty that sells draft beer and pork. The atmosphere is very good, and the draft beer is served in a cool ice glass. The crispy pork belly and chicken wings were very delicious. There is also a Phoenix dart machine, so it was good to spend time drinking beer.

Oyster so nice but pricey. RM16 for tuak 200ml / RM68 for 1000ml. Fish is spicy and nice while porky fries kinda salty
JJ — Google review
the atmosphere is ok ig the interior designs were nice but some parts of the place needs some maintenance(ex: the switches near the toilet doesnt work and stuff), points to the cats ig. whereas the food is super duper mid, for the price like the carbonara was rm28 yet it tasted bland, no cheese taste at all, and i had to ask for some salt because it tasted like cream with mushrooms. The Hawaiian pizza for rm35 which is close to a regular in domino’s this one was literally just a thin crust not even a pizza crust but just some pita dough or smt and it was burnt?? the toppings were literally falling off the pizza, eating it you could tell it was burnt like i removed the toppings and it was literally black. another thing is the chicken chop had like no seasoning at all, very disappointed.we had ordered way more food but these are the ones i tried and an honest review of what i had eaten. honestly if it was just for the alcohol it would be fine because of the vibes but the food is so not recommended pls just drink and have fun with the vibes.

Noisy place after 9pm. Chairs not very comfortable. Can't sit long comfortably to relax. Service just average due to understaffed. Food is nice for the grill chicken & salmon salad. No smoking environment. Kilkenny served water more den beer not recommended. Guiness is ok. Not a place if you need it quiet & relaxed. Parking is limited & need park outside beside road. Have a live band at 9pm. Songs sung are chinese, english & thai songs. If you drink a lot betta use alternative routes or 'Grab' due to route to Lotus direction, favourite spot for police blocking after drinking, jfyio. Anyways its average but not my favourite spot, personal preference only. Cheers.

Museum
The Kedah State Art Gallery, also known as Balai Seni Negeri Kedah, is a cultural gem located in Alor Setar, Kota Setar District. Housed in a Roman-inspired building constructed between 1893 and 1912, the gallery showcases an impressive collection of artworks by local Kedah artists, including paintings and woodcarvings.
Completed in 1912, it was originally the High Court later becoming the office for the Public Works Department. It was later converted to an art gallery in 1983. It houses art works done by Kedahans. Entrance is free. Currently, it is closed to public due to ongoing renovation.

Free entrance with some good local artists paintings and models
NMS A — Google review
Not too many artwork is on displayed; most of the collection are either rotated or brought from some other place (during my visit there is a traveling exhibition by the National Gallery in Kuala Lumpur on paintings by Kedah's artist). The building itself is an art but they still did not do anything on the ornate ceiling. The display on traditional Malay house look too tired and well, lazy. Not much enthusiast by the staffs maybe but at least the security personal is friendly & helpful.

i went there at night. the paintings are cool but some of them are dusty :(( hmmm they should clean them more frequently. you can also “lepak” at the food trucks after a tour in the gallery!

Kedah Royal Museum

4.8
(98)
Museum
The Kedah Royal Museum, also known as the Sultan Museum, offers a glimpse into the private life of the Sultan of Kedah. Located near Balai Besar in Alor Setar, this museum showcases over 2,000 artifacts and possessions belonging to Sultan Abdul Halim and his wife. The building itself is a magnificent example of Thai architecture and was previously a royal palace. Visitors are required to remove their shoes at the entrance and photography is not allowed beyond the main entrance area.
The Royal Museum was built in 1735 as the Kota Setar Palace, where Malaysia's first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, once lived. In 1983, the historic palace was declared a museum, mainly displaying items and memorabilia from the successive Sultans of Kedah. (free entry but photography is prohibited)
Luvfeelin ( — Google review
Free entry, just need to register at entry. Aircon museum. The staff is friendly and helped us take photos. Easy to navigate around. Lots of exhibits to see and with artifacts, rather than posters. There are a number of mock-ups like bedrooms. One can easily spend more than 20 mins inside. Toilets are available too outside the museum.
Lee K — Google review
This royal museum was the palace of a few Sultan of Kedah. Built in the 1700 this palace shows a very intricate Malay architecture. You can feel the royal vibes as you walk the very alley and enter the rooms in this museum. Entrance is free and its air-conditioning. Entrance is quite hidden need to walk around the compound. The security officer is very graceful I love her. I think I will come back to just visit the palace once again. Its spectacular.
Hidir I — Google review
It's great to see and read about the history of the kedah royal family, touring the old palace and seeing all the antique items from yesteryears. Definitive worth spending some time at the Royal museum when in Alor Setar.
Imran — Google review
The museum is located just across the historical Masjid Zahir. The building used to be an Istana for the Kedah royals. Free admission, and no queue. You also need to remove your footwear before entering. You are not allowed to take any photographs inside. Very informative. Texts are written in Malay and English. The aircon makes you momentarily forget about the hot weather outside. The building itself is old. This adds to the vibe. Floorboards will shake and screech as you walk along the aisle. I think this is a good starting point to get to know about the Kedah Sultanate, which is one of the oldest existing monarchies. One of the earliest displays that you will see is the lineage of the current Kedah Sultan that can be traced back to the first Muslim king of Kedah. I toured and read almost all the descriptions attached to the exhibits and, in total spent about an hour. Toilets are available at the annexe building within the compound and are well-maintained.

Nobat Hall Alor Setar

4.2
(125)
Nobat Hall Alor Setar, also known as Balai Nobat, is a significant 18-meter-high structure located at Dataran Alor Setar. It was constructed in 1912 to house the royal musical instruments used by the Sultan's band during official ceremonies. The distinct yellow-colored building stands opposite the renowned Masjid Zahir and the Clock Tower.
The Nobat Hall is said to have originally been a wooden tower built in the early 18th century, but unfortunately no records exist. Records from 1854 to 1879 show it had five floors, but it was reduced to three during the 1906 renovation. It is mainly used to house various instruments used by the Royal Band during royal ceremonies (coronations, weddings and funerals), and is not open to the public.
Luvfeelin ( — Google review
The public landmark is outside in public area, so no tickets are needed. Strangely, photos taken from certain angle look like a slanted tower. It is located next to a few other landmarks too. One wouldn't spend more than 10 mins here. Can take instagrammable shots too. It is a must visit place in Alor Setar.
Lee K — Google review
Balai Nobat or Nobat Hall. It was built as a Royal's musical instruments storage. Not sure if it is still functioning as it supposed to be. Not allowed to go or see inside at least not for public. Admiring the exterior of the structure is more than enough. Seems to be a popular spot for wedding shot.

The Nobat Hall is where the oldest and the most historic musical instruments in Malaysia; Nobat are kept. The instruments are played during important occasions such as coronations, funerals and other official functions. Originally built in a timber structure, it was later rebuild in stone and metal (1882 - 1943).
En W — Google review
Visited the Balai Nobat back in Feb before the movement control order. This structure is a building and mini tower supposedly used to store musical instruments only played at royal ceremonies such as royal weddings. It was closed when I visited, so I cannot verify what’s in the building. Not much to see really.
Macedonboy — Google review
One of the jewels of Alor Setar. Balai Nobat Kedah is one of the Royal Orchestra Halls in Malaysia that can be visited by tourists and locals as it is located in the heart of the city, unlike Balai Nobat of other states which are inside the palaces' compounds. With its distinct yellow-coloured structure, one can easily spot it opposite of the famous Masjid Zahir and the Clock Tower. Built in 1906, Balai Nobat is one of the must-visit places here in Alor Setar. On weekdays, one can also visit the Sultan Abdul Halim Gallery located just beside it.

The Big Clock Tower, or Menara Jam Besar, in Alor Setar is a captivating blend of history and culture. Erected in 1912, this iconic structure was designed to signal prayer times for the local community while showcasing an intriguing mix of Islamic and Hindu architectural elements alongside colonial influences. Located in Dataran, it remains a functional timepiece and serves as a significant landmark that reflects the rich heritage of Kedah.
Build in 1912, this clock tower has a very nice architecture and design. Its initial function was to aid the Zahir Mosque in establishing the correct time for prayer.

The Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Gallery, also known as the Sultan Museum, is situated approximately 17 km from the city center of Alor Setar. Housed in the former New High Court Building, it offers a captivating insight into the life of Kedah's former ruler, Sultan Abdul Halim. The gallery showcases a diverse array of artifacts including official documents, clothing, antique furniture and personal possessions belonging to the late sultan.
To everyone who want to visit this gallery, make sure to call them first. I visited on 29/12/2022 and the staff said this place has been shut down for renovation for two years now. In the meantime, there’s several museum nearby you can visit. I’m unsure when will the gallery open.

Previously, it was the High Court building build in 1922. In 2007, they converted the building as a gallery to commerate the life of the previous Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah hence the namesake. Currently, as of now, it is closed for an undisclosed time for renovation. You can only walk around outside at the vicinity.

Was known as High Court building (Banggunan Mahkamah Tinggi). Located strategically in city center and nearby to other places of interests in Alor Setar. The design and pillars has been inspired by Roman style of architecture. If you noticed the walls are decorated with Kedah state's emblem (written in Jawi or fusion of Arabic writing which says Negeri Kedah/Kedah state). This building is now being use as a Gallery of Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim. FYI, currently under renovation (visited on 22 Dec 2019)

CHEF FAEZ KEDAH is a newly established restaurant in Alor Setar that offers an authentic taste of Arabian cuisine. The restaurant boasts a simple and minimalist decor while prioritizing cleanliness for its patrons. One of their must-try dishes is the flavorful Nasi Arab, featuring well-seasoned grilled chicken and various delectable sauces all served on one plate. The establishment has been gaining popularity for its affordable prices, particularly for the quarter chicken Mandy dish.
Our first time trying because of the RM30 promo and it's so worth it. The flavored rice with a hint of smoky taste and super tender chicken. Wow! Definitely be our favorite arab cuisine restaurant. Can't wait to try their other menu. Great service, good food and a cozy setting.

This new Arabic restaurant is on the rise... The price is cheaper for quarter chicken Mandy compared to another restaurant I've visited. This is because they give a portion of rice less than other Arabic restaurants. I haven't tried a set for the family menu, there should be more rice. The food is delicious, the side dish like veggies still not top notch. It's like I eat 'ulam', doesn't have this Arabic style maybe they improvise I don't know. The environment is nice and their service is fast with good looking friendly staff. Welp, someone can't take their eyes off the hats. Grr.. Their Kunafa is really delicious compared to other restaurants.

Order two of their burgers. The burger is okay, but the coated soy garlic sauce is so little. I eat at many of their outlets, and this one is one of the worst. Order large set and received small fries. Need to change and the food preparation take very long time to arrived.

Get a taste of local flavor in Alor Setar by visiting this vibrant food court! With a variety of vendors serving up all sorts of delicious eats and drinks, you're sure to find something to satisfy your cravings. However, the merchant does not allow any outside drinks to be brought inside the area (not sure why of this). Just be sure to arrive early - by 8:30 AM it can get crowded and securing a seat can be a challenge. But trust me, it's worth it! With so many amazing options, it's no wonder this is my second time here. Check out my photos below to see what I ordered. I can't wait to come back again!

Love this place even it's so crowded sometimes. We've been coming here for many years. Many choices of Malaysian food. Multi choices of nasi goreng, there's koey teow stall, western, even Kelantan dish. If you visit Alor Setar don't forget to have your breakfast here. 😁

One of the best place for breakfast in Alor Setar. The Kopitiam provides a variety of food to be chosen from - Malay, Mamak, Thai, Western, etc. The service especially the beverage counter is very fast and efficient. The food sold here are tasty and sold at reasonable prices. Best to come here after 8 am if you want to enjoy eating various food, because some of the stalls will only open beyond 8 am. But if you don't want to get stuck in a very crowded restaurant, best to get there early as this kopitiam will be packed with people in a blink of an eye. Among the recommended stalls here are the Western food, kuih-muih and roti canai stalls.

This is a fantastic spot to enjoy a meal, whether you’re catching up with friends or having a work meeting. The cozy atmosphere makes it perfect for a casual chat, a client discussion, or even for those working remotely. The food is absolutely delicious, the staff are incredibly friendly, and the service is impressively fast. The toilets are clean too, which is always a plus. One of the best things is that this eatery is halal and Muslim-friendly, even though it’s run by non-Muslims. I personally asked them, and they confirmed it. So, come by, have a great meal, and enjoy the welcoming vibe. You won’t be disappointed!

This is very near the train station. It has a large indoor dining area, food was ok but didn't get service with a smile.

This place is very spacious. There is a FOC private carpark for their customers. The interior environment is bright, clean, and comfortable with air-conditioning. All the food that we ordered is delicious, fresh, and good quality. The food portion is huge. Black sesame taufufa cake is special and not too sweet.
