Amusement park
Adventure Island, located in Southend-on-Sea, is a free-admission amusement park offering over 40 rides and attractions for all ages. From rollercoasters to ghost trains, this family-friendly destination provides entertainment for everyone. With highlights such as the rapid rollercoaster 'Rage' and the petrifying pendulum ride 'Axis,' visitors can experience adrenaline-fueled thrills.
The adventure park was great. Not packed, so it was quicker to get on the rides. We managed to sit on all the rides we wanted to. Especially the more challenging ones like Axis and Rage. Great fun for all ages. A good advantage is that the tickets go to half price after 5 pm. Overall, it was a fantastic day.

Our kids love this place, we go every year for the day. Great price for entry and half price after 5pm. Open till late, plenty to do in the area. Carers can get a wristband for half price, up to two Carers but you need to buy tickets on the day at the park itself. Other tickets can be brought online or on the day.
Penny P — Google review
Great rides for £35 per day per head or half price after 5pm. Or £4 per ride if you want fewer rides. I had 6 and 11 year old and both enjoyed.
Gulzat E — Google review
As a family we have been coming for a long time. The wrist bands are really worth while buying ahead of time as long as you go on at least 5 rides it’s worth it. We did wait for one ride as it broke down and my daughter couldn’t get out one as the harness got stuck for everyone. The rides are fun. The only down side for us was we got a pancake at the end of the evening and there were three staff just mucking about and not really serving. They were laughing at each other and shouting. Other members of the public were not happy as we waited nearly 20 mins. I don’t mind people having fun but they were meant to be working and it was more like a social gathering for them.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Adventure Island, Southend-on-Sea What an absolutely amazing experience! 🎢 Adventure Island is truly the happiest little amusement park by the sea! The moment you enter, you can feel the excitement and energy all around. It’s beautifully maintained, super clean, and offers something for everyone — from thrilling rides for adventure lovers to gentle ones for kids and families. The staff are cheerful, helpful, and always ready to make your day better. The sea view adds a special charm to the whole experience — imagine riding a roller coaster with waves in the background! 🌊 Food stalls, games, and the overall vibe make it a perfect full-day outing. Whether you go with family or friends, you’re bound to make wonderful memories here. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Southend-on-Sea! ❤️ [ Adventure Island Southend-on-Sea, amusement park, family fun, seaside rides, thrill rides, UK travel ] #AdventureIsland #SouthendOnSea #FamilyFun #UKAdventures #SeasideVibes #ThemeParkFun

We visited on the first day of our week holiday. We went for the annual pass as the children will want to visit again and the pass also gets discounts for food, shop etc. We are now on day 3 and going again! Well worth the money! The queues are very quick, we could wait nearby and see them in the queue for the majority of the rides. I wanted to go on a couple of rides so bought some ride tickets separately (no need for a day or annual pass for me 🤣)
Emma S — Google review
VISIT DATE: SAT 20/09/2025 VISIT TIME: 13:30 - 20:00 Adventure Island is a fantastic place to visit if you have children and are in the Southend area. We’re based in Hornchurch, about an hour away by car, or you can also travel quite easily via C2C from Upminster, so my ex and I have visited a number of times with our daughter, starting when she was 3 (she’s now 6). The park promotes itself as free entry, but no one is going to come just to walk through it, so the reality is that you’ll need to get a day pass to take advantage of the rides. At time of writing, it’s £35 for the day, but you can save £10 by purchasing online in advance. If you’re planning to go more than once, then it makes sense to upgrade to an annual pass. These are currently on sale at £50 and do not start until the first time you go. If your child is under 120cm tall, you won’t need your own pass, as they need someone taller (and at least 14 years old) to ride with them. As you’d expect, during the summer, or on character event days, the park is very busy, so there are queues for rides, but going off season reduces this dramatically. We were really blessed with a quiet day, so barely any queuing time, all rides open, with the exception of one, which was closed due to a mechanical issue and the park and rides were open till 8pm. It was also a warm day - being inside the park means that you are sheltered from the wind coming off the Thames Estuary, so even when it’s breezy, you don’t really feel it. There are a variety of rides, with plenty of slower ones for younger children, or those who don’t like faster stuff. Oh these, we really like Adventureville and Spooksville (which is the “scary” version, in darkness and with models of monsters and clowns, as well as appropriate sound effects), and you’ve also got stuff like little trains and boats and the best Crooked House ever, which has been an attraction on the site since 1949, surviving the great flood of 1953 and various ownership changes and developments over the years. I loved this attraction as a child and my daughter loves it too! There are also a number of rollercoasters, with more gentle ones, then building up to Rage, which has a vertical drop and loops. My daughter is looking forward to being tall enough to do that, but she’ll be going on with her Dad when that time comes, not me! There is also a water slide and an indoor area, Adventure Inside, which features a few more rides, including a traditional carousel (my personal favourite) and a decent sized soft play. Staff at the park are generally young, so they have lots of enthusiasm (if we lived nearer, I’d probably encourage my daughter to apply when she’s older, as I think it’s probably a pretty fun working environment, as well as quite hard work) and they are also friendly and helpful when you need anything. As well as the rides that are included in with your entry, there are also plenty of stalls encouraging you to spend more, like “Hook-a-Duck”, which my daughter loves. This is where having an annual pass is beneficial, as you get 20% discount on purchases, including from the food and drink stalls, of which there are also many! Personally, we recommend avoiding the restaurants inside the park as they’re not that great and there are loads of really nice local places a few minutes walk away which deserve supporting. You can also spend money on a Funtopia gamecard, to use on the many games machines in the arcade areas. You can pay to play with a debit / credit card, but the Funtopia card gives you extra credit and allows you to collect points which can be exchanged for prizes. Annual pass also gives you extra credit! Plenty of toilets in the park, including accessible and baby change. All in reasonable condition throughout the day. Overall, we really enjoy visiting and will continue to do so; it’s a great day out on its own, but when you add the other nearby attractions to the mix (Sealife Adventure, Southend Pier, spending time on the beach and in the water when it’s warm enough), this is a fabulous place to visit.

Discounted tickets after 5pm. Got to be quick if you want to do all the rides. Rage was the best. 2cm too short for two. Height checks in que. Ferris wheel took ages. Some ride staff were brilliant. Got wet on the green water slide. Toilets at either end. Plenty of places for food and drink. A good enough park to say you've done.

The pier is a well-known landmark in Southend-on-Sea and is home to a museum with displays of historic railway cars, slot machines and costumes from the early 19th century to the early 20th. The pier also has an electric train that takes you all the way to the end, where you can find a lifeboat centre, cafe and shop.
I love piers, and Southend Pier was a fun experience to walk. It is the longest pier in the world, and the fact that it's on the Thames and not the sea, makes it even more unique. I wanted to return with the pier train, but due to its low frequency, I decided to walk the return as well. The view, whether with high or low tide is amazing, and all in all, a great day out from London in less than a hour away.

Really long pier. Rail travelling take few minut csn walking also.Worth a visit. Nice view. Town is also interesting and clean. Is many attractions, nice restaurants.
Robert C — Google review
Worth the money! It was lovely to experience the train up to the end of the pier. Lovely views from there. Plenty of seats to sit down, a restaurant that serves food and drink. There was a DJ playing by the bar area, which sounded good. The only thing negative is that it wasn't very well organised when waiting for the train and the staff were abit grumpy. Coming back our door wouldn't open but no one was there waiting for the train to arrive back so a few of the passengers had to false it open.
T R — Google review
Very nice pier. It's over a mile long(!) We walked up and got the train back and it was £20 for a family of four. There are shops and cafes at the end but are very expensive. Great views from the pier itself.
John W — Google review
Walked on the longest pleasure pier in the world (2.14km). Then we took the "spirited-away-like" train back to the shore. Will not forget such memory.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5) Southend Pier was a good experience overall not amazing, but still enjoyable. The walk along the pier was peaceful and offered some lovely views. I took the train back, which felt like stepping into the past it has a charming 1940s-style look that gives it a unique character. What stood out most was the contrast in atmosphere. The pier has a calm, laid-back vibe, but once you head back toward the Adventure Island side, it suddenly feels like a completely different world ,busier, louder, and more energetic. It’s an interesting mix of tranquillity and fun. Worth a visit if you’re in the area!
Gulam M — Google review
The longest pier in the world. Currently running trips across to ports on the Kent side of the Thames estuary. We had breakfast in The Last Post, a brisk walk to the pier entrance. Then, hopped on the pier train to the end of the structure. Leisurely pint outside the cafe in the glorious sunshine before boarding the boat for the hour-long journey to Queenborough port for an explore and lunch. A scorcher of a day. Make sure you book the ferry crossing early

Primark is a popular discount fashion chain that offers a wide range of clothing and accessories for all ages, as well as homewares. Customers have praised the store's well-stocked inventory and helpful staff. While some have experienced issues with the quality of the paper bags, many appreciate the budget-friendly options available for both adults and children. The store is known for its affordable basics, making it an ideal destination for everyday wardrobe essentials.
Primark Southend is a great store for affordable fashion and home essentials. The store is spacious, well laid out, and usually well stocked with a wide variety of clothing for men, women, and children, as well as accessories, beauty items, and homeware. The prices are excellent for the quality, and you can always find the latest trends at a fraction of the cost compared to other retailers. Whether you’re after everyday basics, seasonal outfits, or bargains for the home, Primark Southend is definitely worth a visit.

I had something I wanted to exchange I clearly said to the lady I wanted to exchange the item , when I got home I realised she never exchanged my shopping at the top of the receipt it says beginning return so I thought I’d give her the benefit of the doubt but it’s now been 11 days and my money has still not been returned. I clearly told the young girl I wanted to exchange my item

Really happy with the range of products. Due to illness I needed to buy larger shoes, I'm normally ladies 7-7.5 but now 8-9 so I went to the men's department, got size 8 slippers £4 and thought I'd take a look at the ladies department see if they make size 9. To my sheer delight, there was a small range of shoes extra wide for added comfort, right up to size 9 and stylish as well! I found 2 pairs of shoes that fit comfortably despite my swollen feet (illness unfortunately). Shoes were £8 and £10. I always buy my goddaughter her presents here too cos she loves getting clothes! Layout is nice and spacious if you are a wheelchair user, with room to manoeuvre. Also tidy and staff are REALLY HELPFUL. Nice big lifts too. My Hearing Dog likes coming here because of lovely friendly staff!

Shopping
Located in the heart of Southend-on-Sea, The Royals Shopping Centre offers a diverse shopping experience with a range of high-street fashion, jewelry, and home stores. Visitors can also enjoy various amenities such as hairdressers and cafes. The center's proximity to Southend seafront and the central train station makes it a convenient spot for both locals and tourists to indulge in retail therapy or relax with some delicious food. While guide dogs are welcome, other pets are not allowed inside the premises.
Visited family for the weekend in Southend went to the shopping centre, lots of choice of different shops

We visited Royal Shopping Centre on 22nd February 2025, it was truly disappointing, it portrays a huge glass dome that can be seen from afar but once there, it is actually quite small inside, not many shops, no food hall and felt empty tbh, the car park area was bigger but cheap to park in tbh. We were not impressed at all by the Royal Shopping Centre...can't recommend sorry to say.

Shopping
Victoria Shopping Centre is a popular destination for shopping and dining, conveniently located just a short walk from Victoria Avenue in Southend. The area offers a pleasant promenade with seaside attractions and delicious seafood options. Additionally, the center features various eateries and shops including a favorite burger chain, pharmacy, mobile repair shop, and more. While some visitors note that there are empty shop units, the center remains an attractive spot for locals and tourists alike. Moreover, it hosts a monthly market on its first floor.
Lots of space and has a good balance between independent and chain businesses. From clay making and fitness gyms to local cafés to old favourites like Wimpy. Not too busy and easy to shop for gifts, food or general entertainment.
Stefan J — Google review
Built in 1967, the Shopping centre is located in the High Street. It has at the moment 35 active shops. It's not a great Shopping experience. It has seen better days... There are few good shops. The exceptions are Next, Boots, Poundland and Warren James. The Shopping reflects the reality of Southend: one of Essex most deprived areas! Many shops in the Centre are closed. The high rental prices drive businesses away. For a proper Shopping experience one has to go either to Lakeside or to London. Due to the incompetence of successive governments, the money that should fuel the local economy is spent somewhere else.
Anthony M — Google review
This shopping mall offers a curated selection of retailers for a pleasant shopping experience. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, making it easy to browse. While the number of shops is limited, the available options are well-regarded. This mall provides a refreshing alternative to larger, more overwhelming shopping centers. It's a great place to find specific items without the usual crowds.
Akshay T — Google review
A fairly standard British shopping centre. Inside there's the usual high street suspects. Basically you'll find the likes of Boots, Next and Deichman etc on the ground floor and many independent stores on the 1st. Inside is also very modern and looks like it's been refurbished recently and everything looks new and clean. There's several options for eating, though nothing special. Nothing wrong with the shopping centre if you're in the city anyway. Sadly as with many shopping centres in the UK, Victoria also suffers from closed shops and several of the units lie empty. There's no need to go out of the way to visit.
Macedonboy — Google review
Went there for blood test then popped into the pound shop for a few bits. The shopping centre is clean there are toilets on top floor yeah it’s okay.
Mark B — Google review
It's a nice shopping centre, light spacious, very clean and well maintained. Excellent clean toilet facilities, just sadly far to many empty units. Shops there are useful, but the place badly needs more names and brands. This place really deserves far more recognition and success. Blame the council for allowing far too many out of town faceless retail units!
Paul D — Google review
Sadly Southend shopping center has lost its sparkle all the big name shops that we loved have disappeared C&A Dixons Keddies Woolworths if only we could turn the Clock back .Very dull depressing place with no positive vibes.

Fast food restaurant
Lena's Cafe is a charming eatery conveniently situated across from Adventure Island. Despite its small size, the cafe boasts tasteful decor and cleanliness. The menu offers a diverse range of dishes at reasonable prices, including an appealing selection for children. Our companions ordered the delightful fish and chips, featuring a light, crispy batter and incredibly fresh fish. Meanwhile, the chicken salad I opted for was perfectly portioned and delectable, with lightly fried chicken complementing crisp greens.
If you’re strolling along the Southend seafront and craving a classic British meal, Lena’s Fish and Chips is a must-visit. I ordered the traditional fish and chips, and it did not disappoint. The batter on the fish was golden, crisp, and perfectly seasoned—light enough to let the freshness of the fish shine through. The fish itself was flaky and moist, clearly cooked to order. The chips were slightly crisp on the outside, fluffy inside, and not overly greasy. A generous wedge of lemon added a refreshing zing. The plate also came with a small side salad—simple, but a nice fresh touch—and a small tub of creamy tartar sauce that paired wonderfully with the fish. The setting was casual and relaxed, with outdoor seating perfect for enjoying the fresh sea breeze. Service was friendly, and the overall vibe was welcoming—ideal for a laid-back meal by the coast.

A trip to Southend cannot be complete without fish and chips! This is a local, family-owned business right on the seafront. We got scampi and chips and were amazed with the freshness and flavour. Absolutely top hospitality as well. We had a lovely conversation with the owner, Lena, who kindly gave us great information and tips for local sightseeing. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Outstanding! The cod here is nothing short of fantastic – perfectly cooked, tender, and so fresh it practically melts in your mouth. You can immediately tell how much care goes into both the food and the service. Being a small, family-owned restaurant, the atmosphere feels warm and personal, and the staff treat every plate as though they’re serving it to family. The chips are golden and crisp, the portions generous, and the overall quality is far above your standard fish and chip shop. If you’re looking for a place where passion for good food meets genuine hospitality, this is it.

Had a wonderful lunch at Lena’s Fish & Chips with my mum, and everything was spot on. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside and flaky inside, the chips were golden and chunky, and the mushy peas were just right. Even the side salad was fresh and nicely dressed. We also appreciated the generous portions and friendly service. You can tell they care about quality and customer experience. Highly recommend if you're in the area it’s proper comfort food by the sea!

Tomassi's - I have been visiting this restaurant for a long time almost 30 + years, but for some reason never reviewed it. I think I'm well placed to leave an honest review. Good quality food. The menu hasn't changed much but that menu they do very well. The deserts are a main feature. Service is always friendly and polite. Prices remain very respectable. The atmosphere is always very good. Parking is at the rear and after 6pm is free. Facilities are clean and accessible for everyone. This is a very traditional restaurant which has run on a reputation for almost 70+ years and will always be one of my go places. I would highly recommend

Really enjoyed the food and service and atmosphere. It was a quiet time of the day and chose the fish and chips. It was very good. Loved the touch of the seasoning on the lemon wedge. When sprinkled the parsley also drips on the fish. The fish was lightly battered. I had a jacket potato and I love that I had that option. It was fantastic! The chips were good too. Also had the ice cream. It was the chocolate one with nuts. Also lovely and well presented. Will be going back for sure.

A family run restaurant that has been in the town for years. The home of the famous ice cream with old fashioned values. A step back in time .Highly recommend.

Beautiful setting, friendly staff, incredibly tasty food! Had dinner with the family. There’s something on the menu for all ages, all palates. • The potatoes in the below photo are the tastiest potatoes I’ve ever tasted, so soft, so buttery, yet they don’t fall apart! They melt off your tongue • Their take on the Caesar salad is creatively delicious, generous, and healthy • The perfectly cooked steak can’t be faulted and while I avoid desserts anywhere I dine, I did shamelessly devour their “mystical macaroon” and that will be the first and last time I have any dessert. It was really good, too good for my taste but I understood why people eat them. I’m hoping walking a few extra miles will help me feel better about breaking my no dessert rule, but glad I tried it. Thanks for the wonderful service!

Pie shop
Restaurant
Robins is a pie and mash shop located in the heart of town in Southend-on-Sea. They serve up traditional East End favourites with great quality crockery and food that will have you coming back for more. The prices are also very reasonable, making it an ideal spot for a quick bite.
What a wonderful experience. We had the 2 x pies & 1 Mash with Liquor and 2 coffees for less than £20. Amazing quality and reasonable prices. Excellent service if we are in the area we will be back. Definitely thumbs up from this happy customer.
Andy H — Google review
My first authentic east end pie and/or mash experience (I opted for both). It did not disappoint. The pie transported me straight back to the mid 20th century and the mash was mashed to perfection. The real revelation is the bed of liquor however - I’d have it with every meal ever again if I could. Staff were extremely friendly and I highly valued their recommendation of the ‘extreme’ spicy vinegar. This is a must visit, and soon I shall return for the jellied eels
Ryan B — Google review
Was feeling homesick so took my partner to Robins in Southend-On-Sea for the nostalgia of authentic homely pie and mash. The staff were extremely welcoming offering my partner some liquor to try and helping him choose his order and even did a Trick or Treat game where he had to eat a jellied eel as the trick. Can’t recommend it enough.

Il Pescatore is a family-run restaurant in Southend serving up Italian antipasti, calzone and steak. The food is homely and simple, but the quality is excellent, with numerous reviewers awarding it 5 stars. In addition to Italian classics, the menu also has some Mediterranean dishes including hummus and baba ghanoush. There's outdoor seating and free wifi.
A beautiful small restaurant with a lovely atmosphere and great service, serving incredible food at great portions. From light and refreshing platters to perfectly cooked cutlets in beautiful wine sauce. A pleasant surprise was the price of cocktails, being about £7.50 for things I expected to pay double for. Amazing place, will absolutely go again.

Food was delicious, it was quiet but still a good atmosphere. We had our baby with us, who the staff were great with. They also have allergen information available online so it was very easy to choose what to eat even though I can't have soya.

I was on vacations with my family and we visited this amazing restaurant. The best authentic italian restaurant i’ve ever been! The staff are amazing, very welcoming and very professional. The food is so tasty and you can tell that it is freshly cooked. The presentation of food makes your appetite evem greater. The deserts and the drinks are high quality. I would recommend anyone in Uk to visit this lovely restaurant!

My partner wanted to find a restaurant where we could quietly enjoy our meal away from the "full of life" main street, and he found it! As well as it being a beautiful day, the service was impeccable, and the food was absolutely gorgeous. I'm always sceptical about trying new foods, but what we ate was delicious. We will return when we visit again - thank you very much for your service. Total meal valued under £80 plus x2 alcoholic drinks and a coffee.
Carena D — Google review
Random find. We will be back. Even though it's an hour's drive. Garlic bread, light, really enjoyable. Sea bass, steak exactly how we liked it. You can't go wrong with profiteroles and tiramisu.

I brought my 93 year old mother here, she said that the seafood pasta was the best she's ever had! The food was top notch delicious, we were very comfortable and the atmosphere was lovely. A big shout out to Liona and Leon for their welcome and their polite friendly and helpful professionalism, wonderful young people and a credit to the establishment. Everything was 5 star and we will definitely be back!

Went to see 'The Classic Rock Show' i would highly recommend it. These guys were phenomenal! The venue was good and very easy to get in to and get seated. Bar was quick to get served at and venue staff were very friendly ! Support your local theatre and keep gigs like this alive ! Rock on 🤘

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What an absolutely fantastic night at the Cliffs Pavilion! Luther Live was outstanding from start to finish. The singer not only captured Luther’s incredible voice but also his warmth and stage presence – it felt like a real celebration of his music. Every song had the audience singing along, and there were plenty of goosebump moments on the big ballads. The atmosphere was electric, the sound quality spot on, and the whole evening was filled with energy, joy, and nostalgia. If you’re a fan of Luther or just love great live music, this show is an absolute must-see. A perfect night of entertainment in a brilliant venue!

Wife went to see the legend Mark king tonight and said it was absolutely amazing. Must admit Cliffs Pavilion is so professional when putting on shows. We have been to see Mark King at cliffs before and also been on numerous occasions for panto at Christmas which the children and family enjoyed so much. The staff and managers who run these events are a credit to the company.

Great venue with easy parking down on the esplanade at the foot of the pavilion. It gets pretty busy in the foyer and the bar With very limited seating but that's only to be expected. Drink and food are above average pricing But the staff are super polite and speedy so they were really no queues. We had stalls seating for Dara O'Brien which were great, plenty of space and a good atmosphere all around. Overall it's a great local venue which attracts some really good acts, worth keeping an eye out on there upcoming bookings and events.

Nice theatre with good sound quality and comfortable seats. Good views. Only knocked down a star because everything is quite hard to find - no obvious signs for toilets etc. The flow of the place feels a bit off and queues for toilets are very long in intervals. I was directed to an accessible toilet despite not being disabled which could be problematic for disabled people who need them. It was also quite hard to find available staff to ask where things were. Would definitely come back but think better signage and toilets would make for a better experience.

Went in for a quick drink and something to eat. From the start the service was great and really friendly. Nice level of music and entertainment too

Richard Browne was absolutely outstanding. He’s the kind of person every venue dreams of having on their team. From the moment we arrived, he made us feel genuinely welcome and went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect. He struck the perfect balance of professional and personable and turned what could have been an ordinary night into one we’ll remember. Thanks to him, I’ll definitely be coming back, and honestly, he deserves a pay rise for the way he looks after guests. A total credit to the casino.

Want to say a huge thank you to the team for being super a few weekends back. I am a newbie, but found the dealers very professional, knowledgeable and adaptable to each player. Want to give a huge thanks to Michael for overall combining comedy and also excitable energy at all games he was put on - really helped to make our night :D Giving a 4 because table service was a bit slower than anticipated and drinks were forgotten.

Went on a Friday night. More like a disco than a casino. Drinks reasonably priced. Food was o.k., except the hummus and flatbread. Definitely need more waitresses to serve the gaming tables. Definitely won't be returning!
Philip K — Google review
I cannot express enough how disgraceful my experience was at this place. My wife urgently needed to use the toilet, and instead of showing the slightest bit of humanity or decency, the staff refused outright. I even offered to buy a drink and become a paying customer, yet we were still treated with complete disregard. It’s astonishing how a business that claims to welcome people can be so cold, inhospitable, and unfriendly. Basic courtesy costs nothing, yet this place seems determined to drive people away with its lack of compassion and hospitality. If you value respect, kindness, and being treated like a human being, avoid this establishment at all costs. There are plenty of other places that will gladly take your money and treat you with dignity. This one clearly does not deserve either.

Nice venue for a show although a bit dated and need of some TLC and a fresh coat of paint. Friendly staff and comfortable seats and good views from almost all angles. Had a very nice evening listening to a Queen tribute act. I think their band name is Majesty.

Great theatre to watch a show. Plenty of leg room in the dress circle with great view of the stage. The theatre looks a bit run down but certainly gives it a bit of character! Definitely worth pre-ordering your interval drinks which are delivered to your seat

Nature & Parks
Southchurch Park is a dog-friendly space spanning approximately 31 acres, featuring tennis courts, a cafe, a lake, and a sports field. While most areas are suitable for on-lead walking, the sports field is popular for off-lead strolls. The park also includes Southchurch Hall Gardens, showcasing a 14th-century moated house with period room displays from medieval to Victorian times.
During my visit to a nearby palace, I had the opportunity to explore this particular spot. I was amazed by the diverse range of ducks and other wildlife that inhabited the area, creating a vibrant atmosphere with various types of birds. The weather couldn't have been better, as the sun shone brightly, casting a beautiful glow over the surroundings. It was truly a peaceful place to wander around and unwind. What made it even better was the fact that it wasn't crowded at all, allowing me to fully enjoy the delightful experience.

One of my favourite parks and the cafe is good as well and dog friendly, it is also a short walk to the seafront. I love this park. Was my GSD Harriet’s favourite place and was the last place I ever took her before she passed. Will always hold a special place in my head sitting with her looking at the swans and the ducks I just find it so peaceful at night when the lights round the pond are on

This is a really lovely park, to have a walk around the pond, see the swans with their babies. Gorgeous cafe, very friendly, always busy, clean! The children’s park area, is unfortunately going down hill! It needs a complete upgrade! The equipment is either partially removed or is aging! The soft floor areas are disintegrating! It needs a complete replacement to bring it back up to the amazing play area it used to be!

This family-run gem serves up traditional favorites like fish pie and classic fish and chips, alongside innovative dishes such as avocado scotch egg and upside-down pineapple pudding.
Absolutely fantastic! Stopped by Oliver’s on the Beach and had the beer-battered fish and chips—crispy, golden batter with perfectly flaky fish inside, and chips that were hot, fluffy, and well seasoned. The portion was generous, the tartare was spot on, and everything tasted fresh. What really stood out was the warm service—the Head Chef even came over to our table personally to check that everything was good, which made the experience feel extra special. Friendly, attentive team and a relaxed seaside vibe made it even better. Great value for the quality. Highly recommended.

Really enjoyed our breakfast. We had to wait a little while for our table inside. Once seated we also waited a while before someone took our order, but the great location overlooking the sea meant we didn't really mind. The food was absolutely delicious 😋 and very reasonably priced too. We had Eggs Benedict Royale and Smoked Haddock breakfasts, which as well as very tasty they were beautifully presented too. Will definitely be going back and trying out some more dishes for sure.

I ordered the smoked fish and poached eggs with extra sausage and my partner ordered the poached eggs on toast. My food was delicious but his eggs were a bit overdone. Shocked that is was an extra £3 for one sausage. It's a cute little cafe restaurant but emphasis on the 'little' part. It's very small and could almost be claustrophobic. Nice view over the sea. Amazing to see how fast it comes in. Great service from the staff and they was happy to accommodate considering we was cutting it fine for their breakfast serving hours. Overall a pleasant experience.
Charlotte H — Google review
We were regular customers at Olivers but we have recently been massively let down but the service of one particular waitress. 1. As the food portions are massive, usually I cannot finish my meal so I always ask for the remaining food to be put in a box to take home. After some time had passed we asked where the box of left over food was. The waitress who collected the plates and initially told to box the plate asked us who took the plate. Once we explained she was the waitress that took my food she told us it had been thrown away and blamed it on how busy she was. The venue has about 6 tables inside with two waitresses, so to say you was too busy to box 1/3 of the uneaten food left on the plate and throw the food away is unacceptable. 2. When ordering desserts the waitress offered options of ice cream or squirty cream on the side. I chose squirty cream, but then she returned quickly and explained it was not squirty cream but a different type of cream so I then asked to change the option to ice cream. She immediately rolled her eyes in front of us. Instead of apologising for offering an option that wasn’t described correctly and rectifying her mistake she chose to roll her eyes. 3. When the final bill arrived was when we had learned that my box of left overs had been thrown away. This was because we questioned its whereabouts during desserts as it had been some time since the request. We weren’t offered a discount, an extra dessert or similar for her negligence. To add salt to the wound, she left 2 mints with the receipt for a party of 3. We asked for an extra mint but was met with questioning on whether we had already taken one. It is a shame that the service from one individual was appalling as the food quality and portion is always great! We get along with the chefs and are known my face and name. The brunette waitress is always lovely and attentive but the other waitress needs some more training, in particular customer service training. Sadly this recent experience has left us no choice but to not return as service, food and experiences come hand in hand.

Piccolo Restaurant is a classic Italian trattoria located on the Southend promenade, offering a wide selection of traditional favorites and seafood specials. Situated in an area known as 'little Italy' above Westcliff Arches, this long-standing restaurant has garnered praise for its authentic Italian dishes and stunning views. The menu features Italian steaks, special seafood options, and an excellent range of wines.
The food was incredible and the history adds to the ambience. 2nd generation family run Italian restaurant. The Pizza was a proper Neapolitan style wood fire oven pizza which was an absolute delicious treat to taste buds, and so was the Vegetarian Risotto. Loved it.

The pizza was not good. Seems like bread with cheese very toast. The salmon tasted rotten and not fresh. The waiter gave us another dish, the pork, that was not so bad. The mussels were very good and tasted great. The desert was nice.

Genuinely the best meal experience I’ve ever had. This is our second time here, first with our teenage sons, and we loved every moment. From the minute you sit down you can feel the atmosphere in the room and it’s great fun. The food is incredible, highly recommend the seafood risotto and the lobster risotto. The house red is also decent as is the tiramisu. Everyone working here makes the experience and we highly thank Matthieu for being an attentive and friendly host!

We usually go to Padrino’s next door, but as they were closed we decided to give Piccolo a try since it’s also been around for a while. The service was good, and the staff were attentive with a smile on their face. Unfortunately, the garlic bread was more like a cracker. Although the flavour was ok, it was too thin and overcooked. There was too much butter in the sauce for the mussels. Usually you can dip your bread into it and enjoy the sauce, but this was too heavy. You usually can’t go wrong with a spaghetti bolognese, but unfortunately the spaghetti for both dishes were overcooked. They were so soft that they broke apart very easily and was not al dente at all. Safe to say that although the service was good, we will stick to Padrino’s next door. There’s a reason my family and I have been going there for 30+ years, when it was previously called Mamma Mia.

We were visiting with a gluten-free friend so there is no denying that the restaurant caters brilliantly to gluten-free guests. We waited a while for our food (but this is likely due to the gluten-free requests). However, the service was very friendly and the atmosphere was lively and happy. The Risotto Marinara was delicious and the Pizza Marinara was average but good. The dessert options were good too, and the limoncello digestivo was a lovely touch to end the meal :)

Absolutly fantastic food. Cant wait to come back again, total bill came to about 30 quid as well, bargain!!!

The food was superb and we went on a very busy Saturday night (so busy, if you hadn't booked, it was a sorry). Very lively but service was still good. Everyone in our group enjoyed the food they ordered. I had a pizza, thin base and just the right amount of toppings. Will definitely visit again.

Tapas restaurant
Located in Southend-on-Sea, Billy Hundreds Fish n Tapas is a family-run restaurant known for its mouth-watering fish dishes. The owner and head chef, Graham, along with his father Gordon, who has over 40 years of experience as a fishmonger, personally select the best quality fish for their diverse tapas menu. The restaurant offers a charming outdoor eating area and a vibrant atmosphere.
I recently visited this charming Spanish tapas and fish restaurant in Southend-on-Sea, and it was an unforgettable experience. It was my first time in the area, and I was especially excited to try the food here. From the moment we arrived, the staff were amazing, particularly a young lady named Lois. She was incredibly friendly and super helpful, going above and beyond to accommodate us despite not having a booking. Lois showcased excellent customer service skills, patiently answering my numerous questions and ensuring we felt welcome throughout our visit. The restaurant itself is very cozy and authentic, with lovely decorations that strike a perfect balance between simplicity and attention to details. Sitting outside and overlooking the sea was really nice; we thoroughly enjoyed the weather and the brilliant atmosphere. The food was nothing short of spectacular—very fresh and presented beautifully. The dishes were simple yet sophisticated, reflecting the high quality and originality of the cuisine. My favourite were the Bang Bang Hale and the Sof Shell Crab. The prices were reasonable given the quality of the food. The highlight was when the owner himself came to present the food, adding a personal touch to the dining experience. We enjoyed multiple dishes, each one more delightful than the last, and the Eton mess dessert was simply superb. We had a wonderful time and I will definitely be coming back. Highly recommended!

The food was fantastic, two of the five dishes were really memorable, the rest was just really good 🤣 The views across the estuary are fantastic and the venue played up beat Latin music which really set it all off. I was well impressed! It's not a large venue though, so book early!!

We were staying nearby, then had dinner at Fish n Tapas. We ordered a bunch of tapas dishes, as per the photos attached. All were great, especially the white bait and the meatballs in delicious tomato sauce.

We were very lucky to have a table when we walked in for late lunch. The place is not big. There are a lot of options to choose from in the menu. It takes a bit of time for the food to arrive but they are absolutely worth the wait. Happy with all the choices. And you have a sea view as well at the same time. Highly recommended.

Stumbled on Billy Hundreds whilst out for a beach walk. Extremely friendly service and the quality of food was excellent. Definitely had a beach vibe even in an overcast day in the UK. My only (small) gripe is that £12 for only one fish taco was a bit disappointing. I had expected two tacos at least.
Chu M — Google review
Went there on a Saturday for lunch, without booking. The restaurant is smaller than I was expecting, but we managed to get a table outside --- not ideal considering that it's windy, so I recommend booking. Service was fantastic, attentive and quick. We ordered the whitebait, scallops, papas bravas, and the stuffed squid. The whitebait is always good when done right, and in this case it was. The scallops were cooked just right, and the crispy jamon complimented them well. The papas were crispy, but the bravas sauce didn't really taste much like a bravas sauce, it was too much like a Mexican salsa, but still it was good. The squid was tender and well filled. Being seated outside, the food got cold really fast, but this is on us. All in all, would go there again, but with a booking.

3 of us had dinner here last week and we all loved it. The food is fantastic, service is excellent, wine selection is very good. The restaurant is rustic rather than refined, but it is not fine dining we went for and the food did not disappoint. Highly recommend

Southend Pier

Historical landmark
Southend Pier is a must-visit attraction in Southend-on-Sea, offering a range of activities for visitors. It is the longest pleasure pier globally, stretching 1.33 miles and providing stunning views of the Thames Estuary. The pier features a train ride and Sealife Adventure aquarium, known as the first Zooquarium with various marine life exhibits.
Andrew W — Google review
Very nice pier. It's over a mile long(!) We walked up and got the train back and it was £20 for a family of four. There are shops and cafes at the end but are very expensive. Great views from the pier itself.
John W — Google review
I love piers, and Southend Pier was a fun experience to walk. It is the longest pier in the world, and the fact that it's on the Thames and not the sea, makes it even more unique. I wanted to return with the pier train, but due to its low frequency, I decided to walk the return as well. The view, whether with high or low tide is amazing, and all in all, a great day out from London in less than a hour away.
Guy A — Google review
Beautiful views and a relaxing place to unwind. The pier is really long, so taking the train one way is a good idea if you don’t feel like walking both ways. A bit pricey for what it is, but still a unique experience.
Ashok R — Google review
Worth the money! It was lovely to experience the train up to the end of the pier. Lovely views from there. Plenty of seats to sit down, a restaurant that serves food and drink. There was a DJ playing by the bar area, which sounded good. The only thing negative is that it wasn't very well organised when waiting for the train and the staff were abit grumpy. Coming back our door wouldn't open but no one was there waiting for the train to arrive back so a few of the passengers had to false it open.
T R — Google review
Really nice pier. It's amazing that you got the option to walk or use the railway. It's great fun for adults and children. Offer shops , restaurants.

Aquarium
Nature & Parks
Sealife Adventure is not your typical aquarium. It's more like a Zooquarium, featuring an array of sea creatures such as sharks in the walk-through tunnel tank, tropical fish, monkeys, meerkats, Humboldt penguins, and giant tortoises. The Meerkat Experience allows visitors to interact closely with these fascinating animals. Additionally, Deepwater World showcases fierce ocean predators coexisting with tropical fish in a 195,000-liter tank.
A really lovely place to visit, they look like they treat the fish and animals here so well. You can see the monkeys who have been rescued and they are looking so well also. A lovely place to come and visit, I would highly recommend.
Mitchell S — Google review
VISIT DATE: SAT 20/09/2025 VISIT TIME: 16:55 - 17:35 My daughter, her father and I have visited this attraction a number of times over the last four years. It is just the right size to go round in under an hour, with a good range of fish to look at and plenty of information panels to learn about them. They also have monkeys, meerkats, tortoises, a butterfly house (it’s amazing having these giant butterflies flying so close to you) and a display of animatronic dinosaurs. There is a café and gift shop, as well as some small rides which you pay extra to use. The site is fully accessible, with step-free access and accessible toilets, with baby change facilities. Full price entry is £18 (£16 in advance, online), but an annual pass is only £20, so worth getting if you’ll come more than once. Children under 90cm tall get free entry. There is a carpark immediately next to the site, but is very expensive. Car parks are run by the local authority. If you’re able to walk, try parking a bit further away to save money. You can find details on the local authority website.
Hayley B — Google review
The kids absolutely loved the zebra sharks and the talk was interesting. Look out for the giant lobster! There is more than just sea life with dinosaurs and butterflies to enjoy. The season ticket for the year is only a little more and worth doing for locals. Easily accessible by car or train (a short walk really from the station and cheaper than the car park) The cafe I would probably miss on a further visit. The staff were lovely, but it was very pricey (even on a discount) and the food ordered was not very substantial. For example no salad came with jacket potatoes, sandwiches were plain with no sides or crisps etc and expensive for what they were. Hot chocolate was lovely though! There are lots of local foody places and you can return all day with a wristband entry.
Deborah H — Google review
Lovely place, with great choice off fishes, sea life and animals. We truly enjoyed walking around as a family and seeing all that sea life had to offer. The souvenir shop and the cafe are a nice little bonus at the end of the tour. I would totally recommend this place and make sure you buy your annual tickets for £2 extra rather than the day pass.
Ruxandra V — Google review
A small but pleasant aquarium, different locations: fish, penguins, turtles, a small pen with mammals. Tropical butterflies. Café. Good for a family weekend. Great for children. Large parking nearby.
Anastasiia I — Google review
Enjoyable day out. Annual membership is only £2 more per person than single entry so worth considering. Cafe area has been expanded and uni sex toilets are now upstairs. There is a baby changing facility on the ground floor though.
Penny K — Google review
A super day out for the kids, lots to see and do, I love that you can go round again, see things again and take your time. Lots of rides dotted around, very informative and interactive for the children. Couldn't fault it, will return.
Louise S — Google review
Great place so much to see. We brought the annual pass for £2 pp extra. Staff are super friendly only downside was the cafe didn't have any fish.

Roots Hall Football Stadium is an impressive football venue that has a seating capacity exceeding 12,000. It includes a dedicated section for families and also features a merchandise store. The stadium management, led by SUFC CEO Tom Lawrence, deserves recognition for their inclusive approach towards Autistic FC. This demonstrates their commitment to promoting sports accessibility for everyone. Moreover, it is heartening to witness the positive impact this opportunity has had on the children involved, creating lasting memories.
I recently attended the Southend United home fixture against Altrincham FC! Having lived in Southend and surrounding areas for the last 18 years I try to get along to games perhaps once or twice per season. This fixture didn't disappoint, especially with a 2-1 WIN!!! The ground is in need of some serious investment!! This has been offered and withdrawn for many years, which is a real shame as the departure to another site is extremely unlikely, therefore I would hope for the sake of the club that investment is coming. The stands, bars and access would all seriously benefit from some upgrades, in the hope this may inspire/support the club onto greater achievements! That said, the atmosphere was fabulous and it was great to sit in a new part of the ground that I have never previously used! 🙏🏻😊⚽️❤️ #shrimpers #seasideers

Stadium itself is a bit shabby, food outlet was reasonable and fairly quick service. Toilets are dire (aren't they at most conference clubs!?) and only cold water in taps with hand dryer that isn't as powerful as blowing on your own hands! Great atmosphere and good banter with the Southend fans.

So I was down in Essex To watch my Beloved Oldham Athletic away at Southend United at Roots Hall, I have always wanted to visit Roots Hall as it looks like a proper old throw back stadium 🏟. So I made the 4 and a Half hour journey down to Southend United from my home in Manchester, I arrived and found a free parking spot a stones throw from the away End. I decided to have a look in the club shop and then I had a nosey around the stadium and then I saw the players entrance and there was no one there so I walked in and then I walked straight through and I was in the dug out and on the pitch. I then headed back and decided to head into the First team changing room and had a nosey before a Southend United player came in. The stadium was a proper old Skool stadium, Pitch was well looked after I then headed to the Railway pub for a pint as The Pub at the stadium and the blue boar are all home fans only so I walked a few minutes to the railway 🛤 pub. I then headed back to Roots hall for the Match, Absolutely fantastic atmosphere, Fair play to the Southend United fans they sang their hearts out from the 1st minute to well after I had left the stadium. Southend United beat us 1-nil, Loved the stadium and nice to see a fanbase as big as ours if not bigger. 5☆ 5☆ 5☆ 5☆ 5☆ I post alot of reviews on Google everything from being local to home in Manchester to on my travels watching the mighty Oldham Athletic to pubs, Restaurants to me and my Wife on our travels. We always give an honest opinion and feedback on everything from service to eat to drink to value for money to cleanliness etc and we have reviewed everything from barbers to Beauty treatments to pubs, restaurants, Football stadiums, Taxis, Hotels, Beaches, Flights, Beaches, beach clubs, Stores, shops, supermarkets etc. We have nearly 32,000,000+ on Google alone and love reviewing places giving an honest opinion and feedback on everything that we see and do.

Roots Hall is a true gem for football fans, offering an intimate and electric atmosphere that larger stadiums can't replicate. The passionate Southend United supporters create an unmatched energy, making every matchday special. Its compact design ensures that every seat feels close to the action, enhancing the overall experience. The facilities are top-notch, with modern amenities that provide comfort without losing the stadium’s classic charm. Whether you're a local or a visitor, Roots Hall delivers an unforgettable experience that truly deserves a 5-star rating.
Harry B — Google review
Sadly very rundown. Away fans area was poor with filthy seats. Toilets didn’t even have toilet seats on. Decent burgers but £7 a bit pricey!
Clare L — Google review
Classic old fashioned lower league stadium. The facilities are rustic, the technology non existent, the ticketing a disaster.,.. But the club has great fans, noisy, dedicated, resilient and funny. The fans are much much better than the owner deserves and they do the club and the players proud. If you want to experience non league football at its best head to roots hall. It's worth it.

Chalkwell Park is a 297-hectare park that offers a variety of attractions for visitors. The park features ornamental gardens, two playgrounds suitable for different age groups, athletic courts and fields. It is also home to arts organizations such as Metal, which hosts artist residencies and workshops in the area. Families can enjoy the playground areas designed for preschoolers and older children, as well as tennis courts, basketball courts, and a cafe serving a wide range of food and drinks.
Lovely place to play tennis at, the courts are just £6.5 per hour and they're well kept. The park itself is beautiful too, hosting two cricket fields, a cafe, a little lake and a flower garden. Positively delightful weekend walk.

This is a very open park with a skateboard park, tennis courts, the Chalkwell park rooms has a cafe for refreshments, plus you have the Metal works art studio, it’s a well maintained park with a rose garden to. A number of different advents are held in the park through out the year. The reason it’s been given a 3star is there is nothing outstanding about it but it has a small carpark and lots of space for children and families to enjoy.

Not like the photos any longer. The once beautiful flower beds are mostly weeds, sadly just another neglected part of Southend

Great park with two play areas for different age groups, and a cafe and tennis courts. Makes getting the kids out of the house for a few hours easy as you can move from one spot to the next without them getting bored.

Small park but nice place for a stroll for a half an hour or so. Nicely labeled rose garden would be brilliant once they start to bloom. There was one rose called National Trust! Kids' play area was busy. Saw some heather growing nicely.

This park is lovely. It has so much for to offer, kids play ground, beautiful rose gardens, bike/scooter ramps and so on and on. Green fields round and round. Plenty parking spaces. Always a favourite for the kids scooting or riding their bikes. And all it takes is a bit of sunshine and this park would be packed. Brilliant. 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

American restaurant
Bobby Jo's Diner is a retro-style American eatery located in Southend-on-Sea, with a vibrant aqua shopfront and pink neon sign that exudes a 1950s vibe. The diner offers classic American fare such as burgers, hotdogs, shakes, buffalo hot wings, southern fried chicken, and Texas steaks. It also provides vegetarian and vegan options to cater to all preferences. The restaurant has garnered positive reviews for its friendly staff and delicious milkshakes.
Me and my partner had spent the night staying in Southend and visiting the theater. Needed a well deserved, fully cooked breakfast. I had the Truck Stop breakfast (usually comes with beans and tomatoes) was so tasty. Great services, very quick for the food to come out too. Loved the decor and the music was right up my street. Highly recommend, and very reasonably priced. They do all sorts, from milkshakes to cocktails... and burgers etc. Will definitely return to try these out.

The way the place looks and location are brilliant. The classic drinks are amazing and definitely give you a nostalgia feeling. No where else does coke floats or makes a proper classic milkshake like this place does anymore. Lovely to stop by if you are walking down the sea front. Staff are nice enough however the food was not really good quality especially since how it’s worded on the menu for what you actually get. Would say it’s worth giving a try though.
Anthony C — Google review
It looked like an interesting diner on the outside. So we took our birthday boy to enjoy the experience at 5.30 on friday afternoon. There was one other couple just finishing their order and they left shortly after our arrival. We ordered drinks while two staff members moaned and swore at each other. Meanwhile the chip mess was still scattered all over the Monroe booth floor. There was no urgency to clean up and they both left the building to continue their inappropriate conversation. Our food order wasn't fulfilled as there was no serloins or rumps left. We were given a discount for our drinks, for the inconvenience, but it tainted the celebration. Sorry, but not the best atmosphere or environment. We won't be returning.

All of the waitresses were so friendly! Completely happy to help and always smiling. The decor is terrific and the food was gorgeous (my friend still hasn't stopped talking about his chicken and Mac and cheese burger! He loved It!) 😊 we'll be coming back for sure

It has been over a few years since me and my wife came to Bobby Jo's and it was kind of how we remembered it, the food was great, the milkshakes were amazing and to to top it off the dessert was the icing on the cake. From the staff being friendly to a lovely 50's decor, I would recommend coming to Bobby Jo's.

50's style diner in Southend on sea. Loved the single chicken BBQ burger, with coleslaw, and sweet potato fries. We had a banana milkshake and I had a raspberry milkshake. Really good meal, thoroughly enjoyed it 😘

Came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon with my partner and two little ones. Service was fine, food arrived in a reasonable time, well presented and nicely portioned. The burgers were excellent although the chicken on all the dishes was a little over cooked, aside from this, a very nice meal
Kevin K — Google review
On a Sunday afternoon with free Christmas parking opposite I was expecting the place to be buzzing, however it was empty, there were 2 staff looking very bored. Menus are a bit worn, the interior is fabulous and looks so good for an American diner. The menu is extensive and having followed the venue on social media for years I had big expectations. The Mac and cheese was watery, it hadn't been grilled either like the photos show on previous reviews, the chicken tenders are small, the curly fries were on the wrong burger tray (easily fixable), 2 of our drinks were forgotten for a good 15 mins. We were the only people in the restaurant but didn't feel like we got great service, we weren't asked about anything else, eg more drinks (we had to ask for more napkins). A very disappointing visit but can see huge potential! The vegan options are immense and the not 'chicken' option was fabulous.

Located at the bottom of the Thames River, Best Kebab is a popular spot known for its fantastic food and friendly service. The kebab shop has consistently maintained a high standard over the years, offering quick delivery and succulent lamb shish kebabs with fresh salad. Customers have praised the attentive service and delicious meals, often receiving complimentary drinks with their orders.
our usual takeaway wasn't open, so thought i'd give these guys a go based on the reviews, food was great, arrived hot, fresh, well portioned and in 15 minutes! driver was also very friendly and handed the food over with care. it's a little pricey but most places are these days. overall, this will now be my go to for a kebab night!

Best kebabs really do the best kebabs! Large portions, fresh and the nicest anywhere In the area. There us usually parking outside, if not there are plenty of side roads for parking. Access is somewhat restricted by a 4 inch step into the shop! But I'm 100% sure if you had any difficulty accessing the shop they would come out and help you or serve you at the door! No toilets but it's more a takeaway than a restaurant although they have a couple of tables inside. Staff are always very friendly and polite! I recommend going there for anything kebab takeaway. They are online for deliverys just not sure what company (just eat I think) as I live 2 mins around the corner! Try you will love.....

This place used to be great until the change of ownership about a year ago. The new owner doesnt follow instructions and stacks the deliveries to save money. As a result the food arrives cold and soggy taking sometimes over an hour. I wont be ordering from this place again. The food is rank and frankly i expect better for £27

Rude but okay paid for my order and waited then received my food and asked if I can have some salt sachets. Felt the bag and there no chips they said oops and the women laughed and said at least you can have your salt and vinegar now. Waited 5 mins for my chips while my food was getting cold but feeling privileged I was now allowed s&v then return back to realise they didn't pack my salad so dry cold salad less keebab! Should have saved my 30 quid a jam sandwich would have been more appealing! Would have given them zero stars if I could.

Pizza restaurant
Ricardo's Kitchen Cucina Rustica is a popular spot known for its delicious and fresh Italian cuisine. The restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes, including enormous pizzas, pasta, fish, steak, and vegetarian options. Customers have raved about the flavorful cream and garlic mushrooms as well as the fillet steak with salted potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The atmosphere is described as lively but welcoming, making it a great place to celebrate special occasions with friends and family.
I visited this restaurant last week with my friends, and both experiences were excellent! The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was super friendly. The prices were very reasonable for the quality. Definitely going back again!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Small intimate venue. Extremely friendly staff. Food was lovely between us we had pizza, seafood pasta, whitebait, mussels, calamari, meatballs, lemon sole. Not one person had a bad thing to say about their meal. The service was slow in a good way. We waited a while between courses but that gave me great confidence on the freshness and we never felt rushed as we were having a great time. They also made sure my dairy allergy was catered for, meaning I was able to order something other than steak with confidence as well We must have taken half the restaurant space for a 60th birthday and they let us stay in there most of the night and served us the cake we brought with us as well. Would highly recommend all round!

Really good food and great value for money! Service was great too!

Very nice meal with authentic flavours. I’m always a bit concerned when I see a menu as large as the one La Pizzeria offer, but everything we had was very good. We started with the Caprese salad with some fresh bread and olives. I then went for the seafood pizza, which was delicious although I feel there was a little too much cheese on it. My partner had a chicken tagliatelle dish which she enjoyed but said it could have been better seasoned during cooking. The restaurant itself is small but cosy and nicely laid out. Everything is spotlessly clean and the service is both friendly and attentive. Would recommend

Have had a great time at this restaurant every time I visit! The staff are really polite and talkative and the food and atmosphere is just like eating in an authentic Italian pizzeria. Would recommend!
Rory V — Google review
Used to be my favorite place to eat were the food was always outstanding, the owner sold it and unfortunately the new owners clearly have no idea The food was bland as the original recipes are obviously not being followed garlic bread was burnt as was pizza base and staff clearly don't know how to run a resteraunt and look after customers! Sadly we will not be returning which is a shame and don't think we were the only ones that were not happy. Clearly can't operate under pressure. 🤬
James C — Google review
Last night, a customer insisted on kissing the chef the food was that good. Everything was cooked to perfection, convivial atmosphere, would do well in Italy, starters great, steak succulent, pasta al dente, just over £20 per head for the food with a couple of shared starters. Reminder of how good Italian food can be

Nature & Parks
Priory Park in Southend-on-Sea is a tranquil oasis with a fishing lake, museum, and playground. It also has courts for tennis and basketball. The park is perfect for a lazy Sunday.
Lovely park, lots of areas to discover including the old priory itself and the walled gardens. We'll worth a visit.
Deborah R — Google review
Nice place for you to relax, walk, or visit the museum. You can watch the bowling or enjoy the tennis courts. The gardens are quite well maintained, but the bins seem to be always over full. Still, there's plenty of open space for you to enjoy as well as places to eat for reasonable prices. The parking is free, so that's an added bonus. It's definitely worth a visit if only to watch the wildlife.
Gary H — Google review
A lovely, relaxing place in the heart of Southend. The Priory is a museum, but wasn't open on our visit. The cafe only accepts cash, so we didn't eat or drink there. A good play area for children.
Linda M — Google review
Such a great park! It truly has something for everyone: sports facilities, a playground, a pond, ornamental gardens, general woodland, Korean food, and even a Saxon Hall! It’s just a short stroll from our office. We visited today because it was so hot. The team has been exceptionally busy, so we decided to brainstorm, play table tennis, and enjoy some ice cream. It was great to get outside. We highly recommend it to everyone. One of the best parks in the area, if not the UK. Enjoy!

Amazing park! Went to see Fleetwood Unchained at the Sausage & Cider Festival. Brilliant day out and excellent venue

I Have visited priory park on several occasions for different events and dog walking and it's always been great. It's a beautiful park and there is always something going on. The toilets are clean and the café is lovely with a great selection of food and drink. (Cash only or pay via bank transfer) Today for the first time I took my son fishing and it didn't disappoint, we met Sam a bailiff who was really polite and 2 other fisherman who where so helpful and kind it blew me away. the 2 chaps called wes and ross where both really passionate fisherman and couldnt do more to help us as novice fisherman ourselves. They even helped my son land a 20lbs carp. We will definitely be returning
Craig T — Google review
Truly stunning park.. FREE.. great for all ages. The gardens, grounds and old buildings are very well kept. There is parking free. Not so much so try to go on days not so busy. There is also a small cafe for drinks and food, or take your own and have a picnic. in the grounds there is a kids play area and also very nice duck ponds.

Gorgeous piece of history in Southend. Was great to visit the museum after many years, though was sad that many of the pieces have been removed. Still well worth the visit though. The visitor centre has modern toilets which was good to see. The old toilets are still there, but not the best option! The garden was beautiful and peaceful as always.

Went today and had an amazing experience. Our room master Amy was very helpful with clues and small nudges when we were close to something. We managed to escape with 6 and a half minutes to spare. The room itself was designed amazingly, with clues challenging but do able, my friend and I had an amazing experience and would definetly come again

Brilliant experience at The Magpie Mystery in Southend! I went with six very excited eight-year-olds, and we all had an absolute blast. The Magpie Mystery room was exceptional — there was loads to do, clever puzzles, and so much fun for everyone. It kept the kids completely engaged from start to finish. A big shout-out to Amber, our Games Master, who was amazing! She made the whole experience run smoothly, kept the energy up, and guided us perfectly through the process. Highly recommend for families and kids’ parties — we’ll definitely be back!

We all had such a great time, there were 5 of us of different ages…. We all worked together solving these amazing clues which were scattered throughout. Amy our game master was amazing, keeping us on our toes and helping if we needed it. Our team only asked for 2 clues but Amy was always there encouraging us on. Recommend the pirate room to you all. It was great fun and we will definitely give one of the other rooms ago. Thank you Amy

My daughter and her friends (around 13 yrs) had a good experience at Escape Live yesterday. They did Pirate Plunder and it was so much fun. Our host Amber was amazing and a very cheerful lady. She was so pleasant and helpful throughout. She made our day very easy and comfortable. Highly recommend!!!

Booked room 13 whilst we were on holiday. The location is great, right in the centre of all the shops so lots of options for food before or after the experience. We absolutely loved it. The instructions were clear, the setup was very clever and we managed to get within the time and only having used 3 clues. Highly recommended for family and friend groups.

5 Stars - A Brilliant Family Adventure! We did the Pirate Plunder escape room at Escape Live Southend, and it was absolutely ace. It was our first ever escape room, so we weren’t sure what to expect, but it turned out to be a fantastic experience for all five of us - two adults and three kids (13 and 9-year-old twins). The puzzles were really well pitched: challenging enough to make us think, but never so hard that they became frustrating. Everyone got stuck in, and even our teenager was properly engaged, which says it all. The whole setup was immersive and great fun from start to finish. A special shout-out to our host, Amy, who was brilliant throughout. She knew exactly when to drop a subtle hint over the radio to keep things moving, without ever spoiling the satisfaction of working things out ourselves. That balance made all the difference. We escaped with 2 minutes and 30 seconds to spare, feeling triumphant and grinning like idiots. For a first escape room experience, it couldn’t have been better. Highly recommend Pirate Plunder - we’ll definitely be back to try another!

Our team of 3 did the Pirate Plunder room. It was really good fun with lots of different puzzles. Amber, our Escape Live helper, was brilliant - explained everything well prior to starting our escape and gave good clues when we asked. All in all a brilliant experience.

Outdoor Activities
Nestled in the charming seaside town of Essex, Shoebury Common Beach is a stunning destination that boasts a Blue Flag status, highlighting its exceptional water quality and cleanliness. This picturesque beach features ramped access to a wooden platform, making it accessible for everyone. Families can indulge in delightful treats from the iconic Uncle Tom's Cabin, which serves an array of ice creams and light refreshments—perfect for a classic day by the sea.
Nice, quiet beach compared to the busier spots in Southend. Plenty of space to sit and relax, with lovely views out to sea. The beach itself is mostly shingle, but it’s clean and well kept. Parking is close by and there are toilets and a café nearby, which makes it convenient. Great for a peaceful walk or just sitting and watching the water. Not the best if you’re after sandy beaches, but perfect if you want somewhere calmer and less crowded.
Shiji J — Google review
It's nice, long and a bit windy! The cool thing about this beach is all the lights around and about. Typical seaside vibes with your nearby park, adventure island. Although the beach is kind of small (it's quite 'shallow') it's position and situation against the rest of the landscape really works in its favour so it forms part of a much greater whole.
Leeadam A — Google review
It’s not the best of beaches. There’s a small sand/stone beach then about a mile of mud of the Thames estuary. Okay to see in your beach hut but not a lot else going on. If you have young kids you may be better heading further west towards Southend
Chris G — Google review

A fantastic destination if you want to spent time next to the 🌊 sea. The beach is not sandy but.the shells and the stones makes.it all more.exciting for adults and for.children to explore. There is the icecream from the uncle toms caring that is a must for every visitor. There are numerous colourfully beach huts and is peacefully quiet in the late afternoons. There is a spacious carpark that charges very little however you have to be careful about the closing time. Dogs are not allowed on the beach from may to September.
Astir A — Google review
This is a lovely little beach that my boyfriend and I come to often. It has a little coffee and snack bar during peak season, benches to sit on and a toilet if you are able bodied and can walk to it. Otherwise you can drive to it. We decided to go at night on a whim and it was scary! So stick to daylight hours.

Ideal atmosphere for spending a restful time. The sea is outstanding (keeping a note of the tide times would be handy). Close to the car park. Surrounded by lovely views spreading to the very end of the front and facing Sheerness Port.

The establishment aims to provide endless hours of fun and excitement for children in a safe environment.
I booked a last minute birthday party for my little girl on the 23rd August and it was amazing from start to finish! Our party host Asher was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble for him.. He was constantly making sure the drinks were replenished for 20 hot and sweaty kids and believe me, they went through many jugs of juice & water! The perfect host. The other staff in the cafe area were lovely and so friendly too. My daughter and her friends had such a good time and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending having a party at this venue! The food and ice cream went down a treat. No complaints at all. In the words of my daughter ‘Best party Ever’!!
S S — Google review
Not the best place for babies. I went with my baby 7 months, They have a space for under 5s, so all the kids of different ages in the same space! They don’t have many toys for babies and they are old and some are dirty! Wouldn’t recommend for under 2s! I think older kids will love it though! I may come back when my baby is older maybe
Regiane P — Google review
Not fantastic in the under 5 area. I took my 1 year old here for the first time and was advised to use the under 5 area which I thought was great. Problems after problems, adults walking sound on play equipment with shoes on walking over baby areas. Some kids not in socks which is beyond unhygienic in a area meant for young children Food and drink being consumed by adults and children in the play areas Over 5 year olds in the under 5 area keeping areas blocked from little ones The plastic houses absolutely filthy The ball bit filthy Adults leaving bottle of drinks in the baby area Slide in the baby area held up and secured with gaffa tape Not enough tables for guests to sit down if wanted to buy food/drink No over 12’s allowed on equipment but you have adults running around and causing a danger to smaller kids There is no staff monitoring the play areas and ensuring safety and rules being adhered to Never felt so disgusted and been to plenty of soft plays in Essex/Kent and this was unfortunately the worst.
Paris M — Google review
This place is great, has its own parking, cafeteria and a huge place for playing. There are various sections to play, this somewhat divides the crowd. There is a toddler area for smaller kids with role play mini house, food truck, kitchen, ball pit and 4 slides. We enjoyed ourselves very much. It is advised for parents that want to tag along with kids, that they wear comfy clothes, preferably something that slides well on the slides. And brilliantly, there is a small football ground somewhere in the second level, well fenced so the ball can’t escape and children can’t fall. On the dark side: They were busy at the time we went, windows, doors were open and there were ventilation in place but still the air was a bit dense with all the running, sweating and possibly dust from the carpet.
Veronika S — Google review
Okay place. However, in the under 5’s area, toys are very dirty, sticky and outdated. With how much they charge for kids and adults they could at least put some batteries in some of the toys. Not sure what to think of it, it’s okay to go once in a while but the place needs a proper clean, toys need cleaning and they need to work for the kids to actually play with them. Ah, and the space smells very very funny.
Georgiana C — Google review
Absolutely fantastic venue for kids parties. James went above and beyond to make our little one's birthday extra special, really appreciate it. Would highly recommend!
Knux V — Google review
I am writing to express my concern following our visit to your venue on July 1st, 2025, for a birthday celebration. While the event itself was joyful and the staff were courteous, the conditions inside the facility were unfortunately very uncomfortable due to extreme heat. With outside temperatures exceeding +30°C, the indoor environment became unbearably warm and stifling, making it difficult to breathe. It appeared that the cooling or air conditioning system was either not functioning or had been turned off. This created an unsafe atmosphere for both children and adults. Many of us were left wondering whether this was an intentional decision to encourage more purchases of cold refreshments, which, if true, would be highly concerning. One star for this.

My kids love it there! Always have find and wanting to go back again and again! They serve food and drinks which are somewhat reasonably priced.

London Southend Airport

Airport
Regional airport
London Southend Airport is a small, clean and stress-free airport that offers a first-class experience to its travelers. It has an industrial-style coffee house, boutique bars, and a sandy shoreline with characterful cockle sheds nearby. The airport has received praise for its friendly staff and efficient security process. Additionally, it is conveniently located just 40 miles north of Stansted Airport.
Our first flight into London Southend and we were impressed. Well organised arrivals, very clean arrivals hall and the train station so close - I particularly enjoyed not having to walk what seems miles from the aircraft to the arrivals - it seems so quick from stepping off the aircraft to standing waiting for the train into London. Will use again 👏🏻👏🏻
M S — Google review
Southend airport. How do I describe southend airport? It’s local. It’s small. It’s quick. You will be walking in the front doors to the departure lounge in 10 ish minutes or less. There’s high-tech scanners, and for such a small airport it really makes it count. Good luck finding some budget grub to go with your budget easyjet holiday, though. The cafe, the shop, and the pub are MASSIVELY overpriced. The food on the plane is legitimately cheaper than the airport food. The toilets are fine, not the cleanest but fine. Therapy dogs are pretty cool!
Kendall M — Google review
Very quiet. Easy place to fly from although I was collecting someone who flew from Malta..cafe was closed.
Chris T — Google review
So much quicker and easier than Stanstead or Gatwick. If you live in the south of Essex , its a brilliant choice. It took us a fraction of the time to get through check in and security than it has at bigger airports. No shuttle transfers, nice restaurant and a short walk to the gate. Highly recommended.
Robbie C — Google review
Glad to see more flights operating here. Really easy to navigate through the airport and super quick process.
Abdul B — Google review
Very quick through security. The longest part was the easyJet bagdrop where most flights go through. This was a 25 min queue. Don't buy anything in the restaurant though. It takes ages to arrive and gates close early/quick so it's not worth spending the £24 on a burger and handful of fries
Mama C — Google review
I flew to Venice from here about 5 years ago and it was so quick. Parking is expensive though. Frequent trains. They dont have that many commercial flights but there are always lot of small planes landing, departing and sometimes doing touch and gos. Great place to watch planes and the big jets get quite close to you, and have to turn at the end of the runway which is cool.
Susannah H — Google review
Easy to use. Quick and efficient staff. Two main drawbacks; airport lounge is poor compared to other airports. Limited food and service. Stupid boarding system where you get corralled into a poly tunnel/large bike shelter where you 'fry' on a hot day. Very basic quality and embarrassing for the airport to arrive/depart via. Particularly, as looking to expand flights and passenger numbers

If you're looking for a unique dining experience, Sababa is the place to be! This charming spot has garnered rave reviews for its delightful atmosphere and stunning decor, including a picturesque secret garden. Guests rave about the incredible cocktails and an enticing menu filled with mouthwatering options. Many have praised their falafel as some of the best around, complemented by friendly service from welcoming owners who create an inclusive environment for all.
A delightful spot for lunch in the city, this tiny street front cafe also includes a “secret garden,” an outdoor dining space just around the corner from the store front. Staff are professional and wonderfully service minded, happy to give recommendations and perfectly pleasant. Items on the menu are fairly priced, and portions are just right. Food is flavorful, made of quality ingredients, freshly prepared, and well presented, and the menu appears to be meat free, which the hummus and falafel more than make up for. The platters and pitas were all delicious, and this is a spot we’d definitely return to, especially when the weather is just right for lunch in the garden.

We ended our day with a truly lovely visit. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service couldn’t have been better—friendly, attentive, and well-paced. The space was spotless and welcoming, which made the experience all the more enjoyable. Special thanks to Sam, whose patience and helpfulness really stood out. Would gladly return and recommend!

I travel across the UK for Sababa falafels!! I’ve been to Sababa three times now, the quality of their food is outstanding and their drink menu is delicious. The staff are attentive and friendly. Seems I live in Cornwall, I can’t visit as often as I like. But Sababa is a must visit each time I’m in Southend. Highly recommended!!

Made to feel so welcome glad it’s doggy friendly my dog loves the pub cups and I love the cocktails. They’re really really nice so is the wine so is the food I love the puffins and most things I’ve tried off the menu. Highly recommended. I visit 3 to 4 times a week so I am a crazy fan. Amazing staff, caring and great to talk to.

One of our go to spots for the most delicious and heartwarming food. Super friendly and welcoming staff. Atmosphere is great from the second you walk in. So in love with the decor too. Can also be hired for events, and they even have a super cosy basement venue too ✨️ Could not recommend enough. Only a stones throw from Southend Central train station, and other attractions 🩷❤️

The food was amazing!! I had spiced fries - the best in whole UK - crispy, thin, well fried and well spiced. This is what fries should be like! Then I had shakshuka with pita bread. Shakshuka was delicious and pita bread was the best piece of fluffy, soft bread I ever head. I have been there with few friends and we all loved the food. The service was quick and the knowledge of each dish by (I assume- the owner) was detailed and accurate. Highly recommended!!

Harvester Shorehouse Southend-On-Sea is a delightful family-friendly restaurant that offers a diverse menu featuring grilled meats, fresh salads, pasta, and seafood. Located just a short drive from the iconic pier along the scenic seafront road to Shoebury, this eatery has recently undergone an impressive refurbishment that enhances its inviting ambiance. Guests have praised the delicious food and well-stocked salad bar, complemented by attentive service from friendly staff members like Liam and Karen.
Charlotte was very friendly and welcoming. She recommended chips with the Camembert tart which indeed was wonderful to dip into the melted cheese. Food areas were clean and food was fresh and tasty. Will come back to Shorehouse due to nice setting and friendly welcome.

Food and experience expected as harvesters Standards, no complaints other than the salad bowls have got much smaller and the selection of the salad has shrunk however that wasn’t the main reason for visiting so that can be overseen in this review. I would return again

Not a great experience. My parents have visited the restaurant tonight, and my mum got a very watered down version of the meal she ordered. She got the Smoke House Pork Belly & Corn, and literally just got the pork belly and chips, where on the menu it states that it comes with charred corn, black bean salsa, and pink pickled onions which she got none of. When she raised this with their waitress that had come over only as they were finishing their meals, she did apologise and asked to get the rest of the sides but at that point when they were almost done eating my mum declined. I asked my parents to order for me a Chargrilled Chicken Rice Bowl, and Crispy Tempura King Prawns, I got the prawns but for the ‘rice bowl’ I got the chicken with mash, broccoli, peas, gravy and some sort of spicy sauce that was definitely not ‘peri-mayo’. My mum pointed to the Chargrilled Chicken option under the Rice Bowl section, so either the waitress was not paying attention to her, misheard her or misunderstood her or something. I believe all of our meals came to over £20, which was unfortunately not reflected in the quality of the food. We had not been there in a while and whilst I wasn’t there this time, the last couple times i’d been there and ordered food has just been a disappointment. Not sure what has changed in recent years but it just seems to be declining sadly. We won’t be going back for a very long time/if ever

When this first opened again as an establishment it was good. However, each time I go back here it seems to have progressively gotten worse. With the recent visit we found a fly in the chips which came on the same plate as the burger. We were offered new portion of chips. The salad bowls are not always clean either. The food itself is not good value or worth it unless you have go during an offer period or have a discount code. The quality of food does not justify the full prices they charge on the menu.

Visited yesterday, think for the last time now. Staff were friendly, decor and atmosphere is good but disappointed with some of the meals. They have definitely got smaller, especially the plates! Thank goodness for the salad as I would have been pretty hungry. My salmon was ok, jacket potato was so overdone. Couldn't get my fork in the brocoli as wasn't cooked. Really not worth £18!! I couldn't believe that they brought out a burnt pizza to my grandson. Even the member of staff that served us said that she thought we would have returned it, so what does that tell you? Such a shame as the last vist was much better.
Ann O — Google review
Not bad, staff were great and food is what you'd expect for the price. However, don't go for the fish tacos, fish fingers in plain tortillas with a bit of mixed salad. Bit of a joke 🤣
James F — Google review
I was looking for a child friendly place to take my wife and 3 kids and after a bit of googling came up with The Harvester in Shoebury. As soon as we walked in the staff were inattentive, leaving us standing in the middle of the restaurant confused as to what to do Eventually we got seated at a table with uses empty glasses on and dirty table. After pretty confusing menus where some deals the kids eat for free, others not we ordered our food. 2 of my kids had pizza and chips, the pizzas were horrible, tiny, very little topping and obviously very cheap frozen ones. They didn't eat them. My wife ordered a burger, the filling was tiny, it was mainly chewy bread, chips were cold. I ordered a rack of ribs, quite expensive for what they were and again ribs were as cold as the chips. The salad bar was exactly the same as when I last went there 20 years ago, cheap mass produced and very boring. When the waitress brought our bill (nearly £100!) I said I would like to add a tip of £5 (the service was rubbish), she said don't bother as she didn't get the tips, it goes to the chefs and started explaining the big row the front of house staff were having with the chefs, very unprofessional. To sum up, inattentive staff, dirty tables, poor quality and cold food, 1980's salad bar and very expensive for what it was, even with the kids eat for free deal (so many stipulations it's not worth it) Needless to say, we won't be coming back

Fish and chips takeaway
The Fish House is a popular spot for delicious fish and chips, with fresh cod and flavorful chips that customers rave about. They offer good prices, including a small cod and chips option that's highly recommended. The restaurant also caters to specific dietary needs, providing gluten-free options cooked separately from other products. Customers appreciate the generous portions and fast service at The Fish House, making it a great choice for a satisfying meal.
The best Fish and Chip shop in the Southend area hands down.. It really is the quality of fayre is second to none. I'd highly recommend a visit you won't be disappointed..
Paul M — Google review
Worst chips I've ever had. Gone down hill, and the staff don't even acknowledge you when you order, just throw in a bag, only words were do you want salt and vinegar. The chips were really greasy, expensive and most of it went in the bin, would of taken them back but England were playing. Chips were horrendous!!!
DJ L — Google review
35 years of perfect service. One of the best fish and chips in Southend-on-Sea. Highly recommend. Fresh, delicious fish, and much more. Good price. And many options in offers. Special cod with chips perfect for kids or lunch. Thanks to all the team for making this place special, and the owners. Well done, keep it up.

Best fish & chip shop in the whole of the south of England. Lovely staff, and top notch fish and chips. Excellent value too. Brilliant!

Served by a lady I believe was Hannah. Told the fish would be 7/8 mins then waited 5 mins before the fish was stuck in by Jordan” Jordan and Hannah’ spent the next 10 mins flirting and whispering. Then laughing like a couple of school kids. Totally unprofessional. Whilst there heard them discussing another person called Trish and pulling a face about working with her. But the food was as good as always just very unprofessional from the staff
James L — Google review
I thought this chippy was going to be something nice. I would eat but there was a big man with greasy black hair and as soon as I got home halfway through my food there was a big one of His hair sticking out of my fish Whilst they were making my food, they were literally eating Disgusting, not even clean never again do not recommend

At the 1935 Rooftop Restaurant & Bar, guests are treated to an exquisite dining experience that combines stunning views with a vibrant atmosphere. Located conveniently near Southend Airport train station, this opulent venue is known for its Asian-inspired cuisine and celebrity clientele. Whether you're enjoying a delightful Full English breakfast or sipping on creative mocktails crafted by attentive staff, every visit promises memorable moments. The restaurant's soundproof design ensures a peaceful ambiance while you take in breathtaking sights of the airport runway.
"Babe, babe," my ol' Dutch said to me as we were being seated for our meal, "I love it up 'ere, I really do, I do." "Do you my little tea-cake? " I said. "What is it you like so much about having a meal in a restaurant five stories up with a view across the airport?" "I like it because I like 'avin' me dinner five floors up wiv a view over an airport." "Really?" "Yeah, babe. I mean, look over there at the lights on all those planes coming in to land in the dark." "Those are the headlights of the traffic on Southend Road, my darling. The airport is behind you." "I thought the airport runway seemed a bit busy, babe."

Great customer service from Abbie B and the team. Quickly cleared a table when I turned up with no reservation. Menus provided promptly, food orded and quick to arrive. Staff professional, attentive and cheerful at all times. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Nice view of the runway was the icing on the cake so to speak. In fact, I had ice cream not icing on my cake for dessert!!! Will use this restaurant again!!!

I've been coming here for years and the service and food quality keeps changing. They have a new menu which looks great but I was so disappointed. I ordered a club sandwich and this must have been the worse sandwich I've ever had for this price. It was a joke. I wouldn't have paid more than £5 for it and this was £13. You guys need to get your act together, this is poor when there are so any other great places around.

Didn’t eat but gave 5 stars for drinks service. Summer who served us was bubbly, energetic and really cheerful. Great customer service and made our stay very much enjoyable after the issues with the airport. Highly recommend the stay and couldn’t praise summer enough

Great rooftop restaurant very comfi seats over looking at the airport and the planes taking off and landing through their large windows. We had a lovely meal for our grandparents 69th anniversary there the menu was varied from comfort food to more grastro options all very well prepared and presented and of good quality. The team was attentive and friendly the manager Simon runs a smooth operations there we very must enjoyed our evening and will be back. Thank you.

Had rib eye steak which was not nice at all. Asked for medium and it came out rare. The steak itself was full of sinew... Breakfast on the other hand was good and this is the saving grace for the restaurant

Day 5

Off the beaten path
For day 5, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Hadleigh Park. Not quite as popular as Adventure Island, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

Hadleigh Park is a sprawling wildlife-filled park in Essex, boasting an education center housed in a replica Iron Age roundhouse and offering various walking trails. It is one of the largest parks in the area and is popular among walkers, cyclists, and adventure seekers. The park's well-maintained grounds are a result of conservation efforts following its hosting of the mountain biking events during the 2012 Olympic Games.
Very good place to walk the dogs, many walks, lakes and beautiful landscape. There is a bar, but you can sit only outside

Great park for mountain biking and a nice cafe. Wonderful views. Parking expensive.
Greg P — Google review
The MTB trails are looking very tired and unkept. They need some love. Many features are closed or unusable. Trails are too narrow and very overgrown. The dual slalom is almost just a single track now. One of the wooden down hill features has fallen apart. The leap of faith is now closed completely. Many of the trail direction signs are completely missing. The place is a shadow of it's former self and needs some love. Parking is expensive, but I would happily pay that price if the trails were in better condition

This is a great place for the family. A beautiful scenic place with lots of things to do. They have some great paths for walks, a couple of play areas for young kids, and lots of cycle paths along with places for more experienced bikers. There is a lovely cafe and beautiful views. It's a short walk to Hadleigh Castle. They have a bicycle hire shop so no need to bring your own bikes.

I use the lake Saturday mornings with Hadleigh Plungers, which is always run well, and part of the Actio swim app. Only downside is I find parking expensive.
Ian D — Google review
The place is incredible, specially for families with kids. Pets are allowed here. So many things all together. You got to see farms various collection of animals with some rare goats. Also you got a historical place to visit. Nice country side walk. You can even see the sea and the river, the view is super nice. Great place to read books laying on grass. However, I highly suggest to bring your own food as the restaurant doesn’t have lots to offer. The quality of food and the service is not very nice. Take your time for a long walk, enjoy the panoramic view, am sure you won’t regret to be there. Another added value is the place is nearly an hour drive from London(depends). I am overwhelmed by the place 😁😁. Enjoy 😉!!
Dr E — Google review
This place has a large very good play ground for children and plenty of places for people of all abilities to cycle. Very good parking and toilet facilities. Parking is paid for. The cafe is ok but could do with a wider range of food, there's not much to choose from. The mountain bike course is short but good fun and no additional fee to ride.
Darren J — Google review
What am amazing place. Bike tracks for the casual cyclist and if you're feeling a little daring, decent tracks to test your agility at various grades depending on how confident you are. An immense amount of wildlife to experience and a large area of land to go off and explore walking with great scenery. Benches to stop and rest, take a flask and some sarnies. There's a small cafe there with friendly staff and the prices aren't that bad. I came up from Devon where most of this is pretty much everywhere I go and after driving around Essex seeing mostly buildings, I was pleasantly surprised to see this here and can't wait to come back.

The Salvation Army Hadleigh Farm Rare Breeds Centre is an educational working farm that offers various activities and amenities. It features an Olympic mountain biking track, a petting zoo, and a cafe. Visitors can enjoy walks with their dogs and take in the beautiful views of the estuary. If desired, one can also cross the railway line to explore Leigh or Canvey. Bike riding options are available for both those who bring their own bikes and those who prefer to hire them at the center.
Found this farm by chance on a walk between the country park and the castle. A bit of fun feeding the animals. Reasonably priced at £6.20 for an adult and an extra 50p for a bag of food for the sheep and goats.

Had a lovely day at Hadleigh farm today. Was very interesting to hear & learn about all the different sheep, goats & other farm yard animals. The donkey was so cute. The young lady who spoke about the animals was great. She spoke with passion & knowledge & it was obvious this was more than a job. Next time I’ll be down with my grandchildren. Highly recommend.

Really cute little farm! Plenty to do for little ones for a couple of hours! Nice little play area too. Little gift shop. Friendly and helpful staff. Recommended.
Lisa P — Google review
A great afternoon out with the family. The farm is just the right size for a few hours visit. There is a lovely shop at the beginning where you are able to buy a variety of items including drinks, ice creams, snacks, toys (both pocket money and larger items) homeware goods and fresh eggs from the chickens, geese and ducks on the farm. The variety of the rare breeds on the farm is lovely to see - there are geese, goats, sheep, pigs, alpacas, chicken, ducks, turkeys, guinea pigs, rabbits, rats, chinchillas, tortoises, a donkey and a pony. Around the farm itself there are places for the children to play - including a good sized play area with climbing equipment, slide, sand pit etc. ride on mini tractors, musical play equipment etc. There are ample areas for sitting down and having a drink or a snack with picnic tables. There are toilets on site - 3 portaloo style toilets (one of which is larger for guests who are less able) Overall excellent value for money for a trip out. Animal feed is sold for 3 bags for £1.25! Lovely staff and very cute animals - will definitely be going again in the future.

Hadleigh Castle, a ruined 13th-century fortress refortified by Edward III during the Hundred Years War, offers stunning views of the marshlands. Situated on a London clay hill in open countryside west of Southend, it served as both a defensive stronghold and royal residence. The castle overlooks the Thames Estuary and provides opportunities for scenic walks along the estuary.
Amazing sunset but sunrise is even nicer. ❤️. Nice clean historical place. Ideal for picnic. Kids loved it. (No tickets required)

Don't expect a massive castle like Arundel but do expect beautiful scenery over marshes. Oh to be invisible and travel back in time. There's no entry fee. Also don't expect cafes or toilets. The nearest cafe doesn't have visitor loos and you can't take your dog in. It's lovely though and provides employment for people with learning disabilities. There's a great country park very near which apparently has a loo in the hub. It was too hot for our dog but we'll definitely return to see the park. A final plus. There's a car park near the cafe but there's a free car park in Castle Lane.

A fabulous shop. The item we promised our son for his bday was discontinued so we searched high and low, found it on Argosy website. First visit and it is very surprisingly large. The store has a compact frontage but as soon as you step up, through the front door, there is a great selection of toys. There is alot of choice downstairs and even more upstairs. The brand new boxed lego and the pre-owned lego is all on display on the first floor, as well as scooters and funko pops. Great store, nice team of welcoming people and very well stocked.

The Pipe of Port is a charming Dickensian-style bar located just a short walk from the Southend seafront. This establishment has been a staple in the town since 1976 and is known for its traditional British fare, particularly its pies and steaks. The ambiance is enhanced by candlelight and sawdust floors, creating a unique and cozy atmosphere. In addition to an impressive selection of wines, they also offer craft beers and cocktails.
I’m beyond happy this beautiful restaurant has reopened! The atmosphere is just magical, soft candlelight, grear vibes, amazing decor and food, and a feeling that makes every visit feel special.

The entrance down the stairs is quite dark, and with sunshine and photochromic glasses I was nearly blind! Short menu, with mostly cold choices. Starter was a pate with Melba toast. Not the easiest to eat as so dark. Main was cold rare beef with salad and a superb baked potato. The potato was superbly cooked, absolutely perfect. The salad with it was delicious but again hard to see. The beef was nice and mostly rare, though the added 6cms of string was a little texture surprise. Nice staff as I say, only negative was the darkness issue.

One of our favourite restaurants, lovely cosy candlelight atmosphere, with a great menu, we had the steak & kidney pie, which was served piping hot and absolutely delicious. Went to the casino at the weekend with some friends, we only went for drinks but it was awful. Hardly anyone in there, no atmosphere and the door kept asking people to keep the noise down. No one was loud, rude or over the top. One small group walked in and someone in the group said it was his birthday happily and he got told to keep it down. He wasn’t even loud. It was just awful and soulless with the doorman executing their power for no reason at all! It was dull and boring and never will I return as you couldn’t speak without fear of being told to be quiet!

I attended here for the first time in a while and got pleasantly greeted as usual. However, when I then entered I was greeted with new electronic terminals as opposed to the old ones I had previously been used to. These terminals are far more confusing than the old ones and I also believe don't link to as many live tables or if they do these were hard to find. Also they appear to only start at 25p chips now and not the previous 10p minimum limit. This is general was not too much of an issue for me and played anyway. Winning some, losing some as you do but always pressing repeat bet and then adding a couple of chips on numbers I was already covering. This is when the poor customer service comes in. So a number I was playing on comes in but I don't get paid, why not because my chips aren't on that number..why are they not there it's a repeat bet every spin for the previous 30minutes or so..So I get some one over to look. They say it must be a "click and drag" feature as the money that was on the winning number has miraculously moved to a losing number just as it comes in. Also, the manager that came over said himself he was unsure on these new machines as he was still getting used to them himself. I prove it's not a click and drag feature but because of this I lost out on about £60 from the winning number meaning I didn't have enough in the terminal to place a repeat bet which then coincidentally started winning, so the way I play I would have been up about £100 on my original stake money if not more but all I got offered was a complimentary voucher valid for 48hrs, but as I was leaving anyway I didn't take it. I wasn't actually told how much it would be but apparently it is on my account should I return in the next 48hrs and hope it will be at least £100 but don't expect it to be over £10. Extremely disappointed.

Had an amazing evening at Southend Grosvenor Casino, made even better by the incredible service from Rahul, who served as both our waiter and bartender. From the moment we arrived, Rahul was welcoming, attentive, and clearly passionate about delivering a top-tier experience. His cocktail recommendations were spot-on—my mojito was perfectly balanced and refreshing. Later, when he served us in the dining area, he impressed again with his professionalism and great menu suggestions. Even with a busy crowd, Rahul remained friendly, focused, and genuinely made us feel looked after. He remembered our drink preferences when we returned to the bar, which was a lovely personal touch. The casino itself was lively, clean, and had a great atmosphere, but Rahul’s outstanding service is what truly made the night memorable. We’ll definitely be returning—and hoping to be served by Rahul again!

I have just moved over to the Garrisons. So doggy friendly, lovely walking my cockerpoo.so safe.lovely people.🥰

There is a large lake you can walk around and the perimeter of the park forms part of the England coast path. There are no public toilets and I didn't spot anywhere to buy food or drink. This used to be a military site and there are several structures you can look at, but none are open to go inside. There are information boards dotted around the park, explaining its military history. There are warning signs telling you to keep of the beach as there may be unexploded shells.

Come here often! It's a nice place to walk around in good weather! Ca get very blustery though as it is by the sea wall. But it's well paved (if you want that sort of thing, has a skate park and little basketball area, and can see plenty of wildlife. I don't mind this, but for some whom it might bit be most pleasing, the inly thing to bear in mind is that it can get quite busy on sunny days, and if you're looking for being surrounded exclusively by nature or greenbelt land (without seeing houses etc.) it might not be the place as it is overlooked by the Garrison estate. This being said, it's a nice estate to walk around in and of itself because it has some very attractive areas and hiuses, especially the old Garrison bit :D

I visited this place many times the past few weeks at about 6am. A photographer's dream, amazing scenery - especially at dawn. Don't miss it.
Marius M — Google review
This entire area of the coast was once the property of the Ministry of Defence, but has slowly been turned over to the council, who have stuck housing on most of it. One pocket of it was kept back as a nature reserve, Gunners' Park, a nice patch of greenery which joins the East Beach promenade. You can easily access the coast path from here, but there are dog restrictions on the beach. Your dog can only go on the beach from 1st October to the 30th of April. The centre point of the reserve is a large lake, with plenty of benches to sit on, and leftover brick buildings from the days of the military to sniff at. We've always found other dogs to say hello to, and my dog loves racing around the lake, dipping her toes in to the water and running through the long grass. You can look across the coast to Kent, into Southend at the famous pier, or head down the coast to Shoeburyness, which makes a longer walk of about three miles there and back. The path to Shoeburyness is concrete, so perfectly fine for pushchairs and wheelchairs, but you will be walking along roads at times, so you'll need a lead for those bits. There's even a play field for more off-lead time along the route. There are toilet facilities once you head along the coast path, and there's usually a static caravan selling hot food and drinks if the coastal breeze is a bit brisk. There is plenty of parking around, with a couple of official (free) car parks, although they're not massive. Plenty of car parking around the local streets, as long as you park considerately.

I love to photograph here with my drones. Just to add I stay away from the wildlife and nd at 400 feet they aren't bothered by it. I just wish the rangers would leave me alone and learn the laws surrounding drone flights, we're not all bad.

One of the best meals we have had. Everything was absolutely delicious. This was our 2nd visit and the quality was the same as first time. Very impressed. Must visit restaurant if you are in Southend

Over the years I’ve ordered from here. And Istanbul 2 in Westcliff. Food has always been good. Unfortunately, my recent experience gave me un unexpected surprise. The was a milk bottle seal/foil imbedded within my pitta!

Absolutely 💯 % worth a visit. The customer service is exceptional, I was made to feel welcome and comfortable. I ordered a Shawarma meal, the portion size is amazing, more than I could eat in one serving. If you are hungry and want some really tasty food, I definitely recommend it. I will be back to try another dish

This place! Just go! The food and hospitality here was excellent. 6 of us had a feast, the bbq all cooked on charcoal with delicious breads, salads, dips and beer with baclava and Turkish tea to finish us all off. Such a great night with our friends thanks to this place. Cheers!

Really lovely meal, the staff really looked after us and made as feel special! As a fellow chef it was hard to fault! Thanks guys! 😀

We were lucky to find the only lsfahbul restaurant here. It has plenty of food, is delicious and reasonably priced. We had a plate of appetizers and this one is our favorite. It's great!
_DEAF_ROBERT_奧京曼_ — Google review
The restraunt is well placed when coming off the bus literally right there 45 second walk if your slow over a minute. Customer service was very good and the food exceeded my expectations however slightly on the pricy side but being from the North maybe this is biased. The quality of the meats were very good and well seasoned, there was a decent amount of rice on the plate too.
Dr23rippa — Google review
Usually the food from here is good, but unfortunately this time it was terrible. We had to wait an 1h 30m for are food. When we got are food the Donner keba was awful. There was big chunks of gristle making majority of it inedible, also the taste was completely off and didn't taste nice. Maybe your experience might be better if you don't order on a Friday.

Family restaurant
Sands by the Sea is a modern dining gem that offers a delightful experience with its expansive floor-to-ceiling windows and an inviting open deck overlooking the sea. This family-friendly restaurant specializes in global cuisine, ensuring there's something for everyone. A highlight of their menu is the Sands Queen Consort Cod meal, famously enjoyed by Camilla, the Queen Consort herself! Guests can savor lightly battered Atlantic cod alongside unique offerings like Wally (a gherkin).
Had a wonderful evening here tonight. The food was very tasty and the salmon so fresh and cooked to perfection. The staff so welcoming and friendly. Sat outside to watch the sunset. Absolutely recommend it here....thank you

Firstly I want to say how amazing it was that you can walk into a place and not feel bad for being gluten free or vegetarian, the menu they off for GF, vegan and vegetarian is really refreshing. There was a wide selection from fish to sausages. Everything was really delicious, my only thing the chips was a little dry and cold but my mum who had fish her chips was really nice so not sure if I got the older ones? But I would highly recommend if your in southend. Thank you to the girls inside you made it very welcoming.
Megan D — Google review
Really nice good value food, we had a lovely window table and the staff were all lovely and really sweet with our daughters.
Angela P — Google review
The fish and chips were outstanding, and the atmosphere was enjoyable. The serving staff provided excellent service. However, the experience with the till staff was less than satisfactory. Despite a fairly large order, she appeared disinterested and somewhat borderline rude when taking the order. Nevertheless, the overall experience was pleasant. If you're visiting Southend-on-Sea or Adventure Island theme park, this is a great place to savor traditional British fish and chips.
Ahsan J — Google review
Overall meal was nice and good size. We shared the fish and chips as we knew it would be quite big. However could have served more Calamari. It wasn't too crowded when we went and the staff were pleasant. Prices are a bit high than usual but you get what you pay for (main dish wise - since it was quite big).
Tiffany V — Google review
Took my family for a day out and one of the things I was really looking forward too was fish and chips near the beach! When they bought out the £16.50 plate I was greeted with a piece of fish that looked like it was found at the back of a freezer!!! 100% not fresh and the chips were cold. Only good thing was the curry sauce but had nothing to accompany it. Drinks bought out after food was finished but ordered before.
Gareth E — Google review
Staff were very friendly and clearly doing their best but in the summer holidays when it's busy, it's crazy that all orders have to go through one till. The queue weaved around the restaurant, the staff member on the one till (maybe it was the only one working?) was working so hard but I still waited 15 minutes standing in the queue before giving up and leaving. While waiting, I asked another member of staff if they could take my order and although they were very apologetic, they told me everything had to go through the one working till. For a seafront restaurant in summer, I really think they should either have more tills open, or enable customers to order via QR code.
Michelle W — Google review
Absolutely disgusting! Wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy to eat here. From the service to the food it was all horrific. The food was cold and soggy, directly out of the freezer. We also order calamari, never had something so horrid in my life , they were so rubbery and had absolutely no flavour. To go along with this the prices were sky high , connoted to the nice local fish and chips in the area. DO NOT COME

It’s so difficult to find a decent fish & chips in Southend considering it’s a seaside town… but this is the best hidden gem!! The chips are always crispy and fresh & the batter for the fish is unbelievable and has the perfect crunch. Never greasy either
Becca N — Google review
Simply the best fish and chips in Southend/Westcliff. The fish is always fresh, tender, and beautifully cooked, and the chips are always crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The street food is always really tasty, and the portions are always large. The staff are always friendly, and the service is always good. Top notch food!
Mike C — Google review
Seacrest is amazing! We were allowed to sit down and eat and we shared tofish, chips, curry sauce, and mac n cheese bites. This was all vegan and delicious. Cheap prices for tons of food! Highly recommend.
Kerrilyn J — Google review
We don't live in Southend, but have family here. Every time we visit we try to plan in a chance to visit Seacrest and try out their new options. They always have different things to try (like the Szechuan fish at the moment) and if they don't tickle your fancy the standard fish and chips is great too! They also have great veggie and vegan options, which can sometimes be hard to find.
Sam S — Google review
The best fish and chips around. Always consistent and delicious. Very friendly service. Highly recommend

Food is consistently on point. Fish is always fresh & portions are huge. Best local chippy in Southend . Staff are super friendly too
Lukey — Google review
Superb. Better prices than the overpriced fish house and Oldham's. Freshly cooked, tastier and their battered haddock with skin on is the best bit of haddock I have ever eaten. Their cod slaps too along with their unique dishes like street fries. Keep up the great work.
M D — Google review
THAT WAS EXCEPTIONAL. I’m relatively new to the area and that was my third time there. In this moment I’m convinced that’s the best battered fish I’ve ever had. (ignore potatoes in the pic they were last night’s leftovers - the fish was the star tho).

The Sunday roast was the best I've had in ages. The restaurant was spacious and had a friendly, family atmosphere. The staff were very efficient and it so nice for the chef to come out to talk to us all. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

We had a fantastic Sunday roast at the Shoeburyness Hotel with 3 adults and 2 children. The staff were amazing with the kids, making us all feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Service was friendly and efficient, and the food was absolutely delicious – perfectly cooked roast with all the trimmings. A really lovely family-friendly spot that we’ll definitely be visiting again!

After a walk along East Beach, we popped in here for some lunch. We were greeted by wonderful staff who made us feel welcome. Our lunch was amazing, we will definitely return regularly to this fantastic pub.

Relatively new owners and makeover inside. Great friendly pub, really good food, parking outside in the road. Great drinks variety, close to beach and railway station. Dog friendly ( if well behaved).
Mark S — Google review
Since the new owners took over the service and food is exceptional, the owners are so welcoming and friendly, the chef often pops out to see how the food was, and so far everything has been really lovely! We can definitely recommend the pork belly bites, duck wraps and the cod bites, they are so lightly battered and very tasty! We will be returning very soon
