Gallacher's Smokehouse Bar And Grill, located in Leigh-on-Sea, Southend-on-Sea, offers a diverse menu featuring pork ribs, prime steaks, and fish. The restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays but opens from Wednesday to Sunday. Visitors praise the vegetarian options and commend the attentive owner who ensures that meals are prepared according to customers' preferences. The welcoming atmosphere and delicious cocktails add to the dining experience.
From a vegetarian view this place is great. The owner looked after my husband and I very well, they cooked my husband's meal just the way he liked it and that's not very often that he gets what he asked for and for myself I had 4 lovely meals to choose from. I had veg Wellington and that was very yummy. The people r very welcoming and it was nice to see the owner working and Chatting to the customer's. The cocktails were very nice too, not many to choose from but very nice. This place is not very big so u would probably be best to book. Will definitely go here again and I would recommend to meat and none meat eaters 😁

Fourth visit for me. It was ok, the manager as always was a delight. A little on the pricey side and the approx 10% service charge was mandatory which always ruffles my feathers. Service was pleasant and with a smile but interrupting a little too regularly to be honest, especially for Valentine's evening. The food is always good here, tipple fried chips a delight, but deep brown in colour and may not be to everyone's taste (perhaps there are options?). I'm a rib fan and these are simply divine. However I had the 'half and half' which turned out to be 3 bbq ribs and around 8 much larger dry rub....??? The 3 small bbq ribs quite disappointing. The pulled pork burger was ok but again on the pricy side. All in all an ok night but a little underwealming, but won't be returning too soon. Could do with revitalising I guess. A shocking response from management on Trip Advisor... Hello Lee Underwhelmed is not good. I'm sorry that you left our restaurant less than delighted. I note this was you fourth visit so I guess we aren't that bad or you would not have returned three times. You visited on Valentines night and we were extremely busy as one would expect. We served 85 guests in our 44 seat restaurant and I'm pleased to report that the vast majority were delighted that they chose us to celebrate with their significant other. I have looked at your bill and orders and also studied the CCTV footage. Your feathers were unnecessarily ruffled. We have never and will never charged a mandatory (compulsory) service charge. Our menu clearly states "A discretionary 10% service charge is added to all bills. This is shared between all staff, front and back of house". Most restaurants in our vicinity have a similar policy. The CCTV shows your waitress checking in with you twice, and re visiting your table once more to enquire if you would like your drinks replenished. She did a table check when you received your mains and once when you received your pudding. So a total of three times. The reason they check in is to ensure that you are delighted with your meals. Had you mentioned that your baby back rib portion was smaller than you desired she would have immediately and without argument or fuss brought you some more free of charge. There was no pulled pork sandwich/burger ordered. A Ribwich (rib meat off the bone) was ordered, and a half and half rib meal. We use only fresh, British meat in our restaurant and the processes that we use to create authentic American style BBQ are extremely labour intensive. Hence we will never be a "cheap eats" establishment. If we used frozen meat and the "boil in the bag" technique for our ribs we could charge less, but we never will. There's an old saying that is as true today as it has ever been "You get what you pay for". I note that you will not be returning soon. If you ever do please voice any concerns or disappointments in the restaurant at the time of service and we will bend over backwards to rectify any error or issue. Kind Regards Adrian Gallacher.

Visited 3pm saturday afternoon. The staff were pleasant enough but that's all the positives I have to say about it. 4 of us ordered buffalo wings they were soft and watery the sauce had no flavour or spice at all. We were asked if we wanted a sauce with them so we asked for blue cheese. We were told it would take a couple of minutes to prepare. When they returned we were asked if everything was alright and I told them the buffalo wings had no flavour/spice and was told by the waitress that they were supposed to have no spice if we wanted hot we should have asked for the hot wings as they were the spicy ones. The blue cheese sauce was a melted, watery, oily cheese sauce which had split and was awful and also had no flavour. At that point we felt it was futile to complain as if they were supposed to be like that then we would get nowhere you could see just by looking at it that it had split. My kids had plain burgers one came out with mustard mayo and we had to send it back my wife had the SOB burger all of them were dry and tasteless. I had the pig out meal which was a variety of meats. The sausage was nice but the ribs and chicken were covered in a black tar like substance which tasted like burnt sugar the chicken was cooked ok but I couldnt taste it because of the Sauce and the ribs were dry. The pulled pork was not great either. The coleslaw looked like it had been sat out for hours and had that yellow dry look where the mayo had relaxed and left the veg sitting in the open air and the mayonnaise had a yellow skin on it had been sat out for so long. The waitress saw my son pull the skin off with his fingers ignored it and gave us two more one of which also had a yellow skin on too. The bill came to over £100 and if I'm honest it was the worst meal I've ever paid that kind of money for. I've eaten in some amazing American style smokehouse restaurants both here and in the US and this is unfortunately like none of them and is just as expensive. I could have complained more but honestly felt that there was no point as all the food was so bad I dont think they could have known how to correct it. When they collected the plates after each course they seemed to be oblivious to the fact that hardly any of the food apart from the chips were eaten. I would like to Add as an answer to the owners reply that the wings and most of the ribs were left on the plate because both were awful. It was most definitely not a plate of bones sent back why would I say I enjoyed the sausage and comment the chicken was cooked ok and then say the rest wasnt. Who brings buffalo wings to a table without a blue cheese or ranch dip then charges £2 for a pot of melted split sauce? No one apart from your restaurant. Buffalo wings ARE supposed to be spicy they dont have to be ridiculously hot but they should definitely have flavour and a kick. Yours were like water and tasted nothing like buffalo wings whatsoever. Maybe you should try a bottle of Frank's buffalo hot sauce so you can understand the flavour profile you should aim to achieve. Or better still head into London. Shoreditch has a superb range of smokehouses you should try some of their menu to understand the standard you should try to achieve and at the same time it will highlight the poor standard of your own food. Why weren't we told that it was a steak sauce which to be honest would have ruined a good steak. Obviously my knowledge of smoked bbq far outways that of your restaurant management. I know what bbq sauce is and what it looks like and how it tastes this "tar like substance" which you claim to be bbq sauce was nothing like anything I've ever experienced and unfortunately not in a good way. I would also like to add you have failed to defend the mayonnaise you served and whilst I know what the SOB burger is it doesnt change the fact that is was dry. Furthermore correcting someone and lying about what we finished on our plate as well as your attitude online wishing me well in the manner you have is unprofessional and just plain rude. I'm sorry you dont like criticism however that's life.

Glad that Gallacher's is reopened again! Ribs are smashing as usual but reduced menu for smoked items...missing chicken and pulled pork...due to reduced customers post Covid. Hopeful menu comes online! Will go again.
David N — Google review
So many places now offer smoked BBQ food and get it wrong. This place however is perfection! They definitely know what they are doing with the smokers. They let the meat speak for its self, seasoned perfectly opposed to just covering it in sugar loaded sauce. Seasoned fries and cornbread where spot on. Craft beer offerings matched the smokey food really well. (this is the only food review I have ever bothered to write. That says it all really)

Amazing portions! Amazing food and the staff were excellent! Massive thumbs up from us! 😀

What can I say, tastes that explode in your mouth, mouth wateringly amazing food, smoked to perfection. The staff were all so friendly, even though adrian would not tell us what was in his BBQ sauce. Will definitely be eating here again!

Bobby Jo's Diner is a retro-style American eatery located in Southend-on-Sea, with a vibrant aqua shopfront and pink neon sign that exudes a 1950s vibe. The diner offers classic American fare such as burgers, hotdogs, shakes, buffalo hot wings, southern fried chicken, and Texas steaks. It also provides vegetarian and vegan options to cater to all preferences. The restaurant has garnered positive reviews for its friendly staff and delicious milkshakes.
Me and my partner had spent the night staying in Southend and visiting the theater. Needed a well deserved, fully cooked breakfast. I had the Truck Stop breakfast (usually comes with beans and tomatoes) was so tasty. Great services, very quick for the food to come out too. Loved the decor and the music was right up my street. Highly recommend, and very reasonably priced. They do all sorts, from milkshakes to cocktails... and burgers etc. Will definitely return to try these out.

The way the place looks and location are brilliant. The classic drinks are amazing and definitely give you a nostalgia feeling. No where else does coke floats or makes a proper classic milkshake like this place does anymore. Lovely to stop by if you are walking down the sea front. Staff are nice enough however the food was not really good quality especially since how it’s worded on the menu for what you actually get. Would say it’s worth giving a try though.

It looked like an interesting diner on the outside. So we took our birthday boy to enjoy the experience at 5.30 on friday afternoon. There was one other couple just finishing their order and they left shortly after our arrival. We ordered drinks while two staff members moaned and swore at each other. Meanwhile the chip mess was still scattered all over the Monroe booth floor. There was no urgency to clean up and they both left the building to continue their inappropriate conversation. Our food order wasn't fulfilled as there was no serloins or rumps left. We were given a discount for our drinks, for the inconvenience, but it tainted the celebration. Sorry, but not the best atmosphere or environment. We won't be returning.

All of the waitresses were so friendly! Completely happy to help and always smiling. The decor is terrific and the food was gorgeous (my friend still hasn't stopped talking about his chicken and Mac and cheese burger! He loved It!) 😊 we'll be coming back for sure

It has been over a few years since me and my wife came to Bobby Jo's and it was kind of how we remembered it, the food was great, the milkshakes were amazing and to to top it off the dessert was the icing on the cake. From the staff being friendly to a lovely 50's decor, I would recommend coming to Bobby Jo's.

50's style diner in Southend on sea. Loved the single chicken BBQ burger, with coleslaw, and sweet potato fries. We had a banana milkshake and I had a raspberry milkshake. Really good meal, thoroughly enjoyed it 😘

Came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon with my partner and two little ones. Service was fine, food arrived in a reasonable time, well presented and nicely portioned. The burgers were excellent although the chicken on all the dishes was a little over cooked, aside from this, a very nice meal
Kevin K — Google review
On a Sunday afternoon with free Christmas parking opposite I was expecting the place to be buzzing, however it was empty, there were 2 staff looking very bored. Menus are a bit worn, the interior is fabulous and looks so good for an American diner. The menu is extensive and having followed the venue on social media for years I had big expectations. The Mac and cheese was watery, it hadn't been grilled either like the photos show on previous reviews, the chicken tenders are small, the curly fries were on the wrong burger tray (easily fixable), 2 of our drinks were forgotten for a good 15 mins. We were the only people in the restaurant but didn't feel like we got great service, we weren't asked about anything else, eg more drinks (we had to ask for more napkins). A very disappointing visit but can see huge potential! The vegan options are immense and the not 'chicken' option was fabulous.

The food and cocktails were amazing! We had the loveliest and very professional server called Harrison. He made our trip today a real treat with his warm and welcoming persona. Thank you!

Had dinner here with friends. The place is inviting and the menu has a good variety of dishes, even for vegans and vegetarians. My friends enjoyed their food, said was nice and tasty. My fries were cold and seemed stale as well as the corn on the cob, which was really cold. Service could be a bit faster. Cocktails were really good. Would try again sometimes. Won’t rush back.

This is a year since we have been here... The food is still quite good... But I think depending on the time you go there are things missing on the menu.. We went on a Sunday evening at 7.0clock. Service was very intermittent. We ask for a lemonade it took nearly 40.minutes and plenty of reminders before we got it. We also ordered salads with are steak. And when the steak arrived we were informed that there was no salad left. Which I find is wrong why did they not inform us that there was no salads when we ordered are steaks... Fair play they did not charge us for the lemonade... But on all we felt uncomfortable and not really cared about. Even though are bill was over a £125.00 pound for the three of us. The waitress was good but definitely over worked as she was rushing around serving tables on the other side of the restaurant. To much for her... Perhaps a few more staff may ease the madness and create a better experience for the custermers To sum up we found it not as good as a year ago.. And bearing in mind thus is not a cheep restaurant.. I would expect just a little bit more attention to detail.
Geoff E — Google review
Mediocre restaurant with no ambiance or atmopshere at all. The food is very average meat and burgers. Burger patty itself is quite dry and pricey at £13 with no chips or salad. The loaded fries came stuck to the plate and had clearly been sitting around for some time. The cauliflower wings were nice. We had to wait 45 mins for food. The place was busy and loud with very strong bass music in the background. The room is very cold and draughty and feels messy and dirty as well as chaotic. I was seated on a huge table in the middle of the room for just me and my partner and it did not feel comfortable. The waitress pointed to a cup on table and said your cutlery is there however didnt actually check and the only cutlery we had were knives. The place has no atmopshere or decor and the food was not good enough to justify the price. Quite a trashy place, I wouldn't recommend and wouldn't return.

Food was delicious. Started off with the Nachos(not pictured) with the same toppings at the tater tots. Then had the Al Capone Burger with Chilli Beef Tater tots and onion rings, all was fantastic and very filling. Family had a Bacon Deluxe, gone before it could be photod, Classic and an Firebird(chicken burger) Cocktails were also fantastic and baconaise yummy as ever!

During lockdown I have ordered from Mangtoute a few times and I haven’t been disappointed. The food is always high quality and tastes out of this world. Most of the packaging in environmentally friendly and recyclable. The delivery drivers have been really polite and the times I have had to talk to the restaurant on the phone they have always been helpful and polite. Looking forward to going in for a meal when they open again.

First time coming here, drinks order taken really quickly, ordered starters - Sharing Nachos, absolutely delicious but could have demolished it on my own, the chillie on the top was a lovely level of spice , we also got halloumi chips which were lovely, we all got different burgers all were delightful and huge , we got skinny fries that had a lovely taste and texture (I would have liked mine hotter ), my only complaint was that the ketchup and mayonnaise came in sachets - no biggy, we also got dessert all were amazing !!!!!! Our waitress (Ness) was lovely- good interactions and chat was helpful with answering questions !!!!!

This was our first visit to this restaurant, and it did not disappoint. The staff were extremely friendly and courteous despite it being a very busy day, and the food was just awesome. Everything was very tasty and well cooked, and the restaurant was very clean and well maintained. Just be mindful of the quantity as the portions are massive.

Miller & Carter Rayleigh is a chic steakhouse that prides itself on serving sustainably sourced, grass-fed British beef alongside an array of burgers and ribs. Nestled in the charming area of Leigh-on-Sea, this popular dining spot offers a delightful experience for both first-time visitors and seasoned patrons alike. Guests rave about the warm hospitality they receive upon arrival, often being greeted with friendly smiles and shown to comfortable seating areas while waiting for their tables.
I never really leave reviews, however considering how great Harry was as our waiter I couldn’t not. Tonight was our first dinner out since having our little one, we were quite anxious. Although it was so refreshing and nice for a waiter to ask how we were, how our day was going! Wow we’ve never had that before & to actually listen to our reply, great guy. He was so kind, polite & attentive. I do really believe this young person deserves recognition. As stated we were anxious about leaving our little one to squeeze in a date but just speaking with Harry made us feel so welcome & we really enjoyed ourselves! Food was delicious! £35 for 3 lovely courses & amazing portions?! We have since recommended this restaurant to family, shared on socials and will definitely return! Thanks Harry! :)

We arrived very early so it was very quiet but the seats filled up after a while. Me and my son had a lovely lunch with excellent service, very attentive and looked after us well. The food is delicious and the 2 course lunch menu is really good value for money. The next time we are in the area we would like to return.

We had previously enjoyed meals at Miller & Carter, but this occasion marked our first visit to the Rayleigh location. For our wedding anniversary, we wanted a special dining experience and initially tried to reserve a table at the Chelmsford branch. However, it was fully booked until 21:00. Fortunately, after checking online, we managed to secure a reservation at Rayleigh. We promptly received a confirmation text and email detailing the date and time of our booking, along with a reminder to register our vehicle upon parking. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and looked after by Sarah, who proved to be an excellent host. She took our drinks orders and went out of her way to assist my wife in choosing suitable gluten-free options from the menu. For our meal, my wife and I decided to share the indulgent Butcher’s Block, while our 14-year-old son, who has a hearty appetite, chose the Black Angus Sirloin Steak, Grilled Lobster Tail, and Mac & Cheese. After enjoying our drinks and desserts, the total came to approximately £60 per person. The evening was a fantastic way to celebrate our anniversary. We felt genuinely cared for throughout our meal, with everything cooked to perfection. The fillet steak, in particular, was so tender it hardly needed chewing—simply wonderful!

A shout out to Julie who was warm and welcoming. Ensure our drinks were topped up and checked in on us how our food was which made our experience even better that I’d come back to sit in her section so thank you. I ordered the pan seared scallops and pork belly to start. I thought the scallops were slightly overcooked but apart from that, the pork belly was super soft and the miso dressing complimented it well. Would have been nice to have more cress on my plate however. My partner ordered the cheesy garlic bread, could do with a little bit more garlic but the bread was very soft. For mains, my partner ordered the 16oz ribeye with triple cooked chips, red wine sauce garlic mayo wedge. And myself, I ordered the wagyu ribeye with triple cooked chips, bone marrow sauces and spicy burnt chilli dressing for the wedge. Both steaks were amazing but the wagyu steak was definitely our favourite! The bone marrow sauce does get sickly after a while, same for Grana Padano on the wedge. But the spicy burnt chilli and crispy onions dressing on the wedge was soo refreshing, couldn’t recommend that dressing enough! Very happy with our experience.

We ordered the Sunday sharing platter, which was cooked perfectly and more than enough for two hungry people. Somehow still managed to squeeze in two desserts – both were delicious! Highly recommend the crème brûlée and the banoffee pie. They also have a great deal on at the moment – 2 mocktails for £10, which was a lovely bonus. Great food, great quality!

Food and experience expected as harvesters Standards, no complaints other than the salad bowls have got much smaller and the selection of the salad has shrunk however that wasn’t the main reason for visiting so that can be overseen in this review. I would return again

We was waiting around 10 minutes to be seated and when the Holy Trinity meal come out Meant to get half a rotisserie chicken and only a quarter to come out the short beef rib literally had two bites on it apparently they cut it into quarters they sent it back and then when it come back out with an other quarter of chicken now on the same plate And it was supposed to come with Sage and onion season fries they were plain they missed out my coleslaw as well I'm when I confronted the staff about it they said sorry it's a new menu but surely the chef should know what they're cooking. Absolutely disgusting would not come again.

When this first opened again as an establishment it was good. However, each time I go back here it seems to have progressively gotten worse. With the recent visit we found a fly in the chips which came on the same plate as the burger. We were offered new portion of chips. The salad bowls are not always clean either. The food itself is not good value or worth it unless you have go during an offer period or have a discount code. The quality of food does not justify the full prices they charge on the menu.

Not bad, staff were great and food is what you'd expect for the price. However, don't go for the fish tacos, fish fingers in plain tortillas with a bit of mixed salad. Bit of a joke 🤣

Table 227- 09/08/2025 Ordered salmon , it was super dry no seasoning , with burned lemon wedge, which I send it back to kitchen. Ordered halumi skewer this dish must cost 3£ it’s over priced for what you get, you get 2 halumi slices and massive 3 onions they not even grilled , and massive grilled peppers with seeds in them. Absolutely disappointed, look like chefs only can reheat food like chips , hollandaise sauce , and pita bread. Don’t need much brain in there. Definitely last time me being there , please avoid this nasty place

Very welcoming staff, food and venue met all expectations. Arrived early but staff made effort to rearrange tables so we could be seated straight away. Waitress was very helpful and friendly, knew without checking what wasn't available and made recommendations for the less decisive ones among us. She also made time to chat and put us at ease despite difficulties with our children, really helped reduce the stress and calm the kids down. Could not fault the food, will visit again.

Located in Westcliff-on-Sea, Southend-on-Sea, Oyster Creek Kitchen offers a delightful dining experience by the sea. The restaurant is praised for its impressive seafood selection, including classic cod, yellowfin tuna, and Alaskan king crab. With a holiday vibe and music playing in the background, the atmosphere is described as wonderful and inviting. The staff are friendly and attentive, providing excellent service.
Finally got there after passing many times saying well try it. Real nice place and staff. Food was amazing. I had crab 🦀 boil, and I got messy with it 😆. Not sure if there's a non messy way to eat it 🤔 but it was very nice Cheers 🍻

Total Mother’s Day 5 star experience! We hadn’t booked a table but the very friendly team found us a lovely sunny seaview table and really looked after us. We ordered the oysters which were fresh and delicious, the crab mac and cheese and the lobster and prawn tacos. Service was excellent and the food first class as well as being great value for money. Lots of other seafood options on the menu which I really want to go back and try. A bit of a walk from the town centre but definitely worth the walk!

A decent seafood restaurant, located almost right by the bay. The passing cars nearby were a bit distracting, but the well-placed barrier helped reduce the noise and made it more comfortable to sit outside. The staff was very polite and helpful. They quickly found us a nice table outdoors, which we really appreciated. The food was good, though probably not for everyone. We ordered a large platter with different kinds of seafood. The meat itself was tasty, but the sauce around it was too spicy for our liking.

Wonderful restaurant. Hidden gem in Westcliff. Great atmosphere , holiday vibe with the music playing in the background. Food is delicious, beautifully presented. Great choice of dishes. Difficult to decide what to have. Cocktails fabulous , wine list very good. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Very attentive. Special mention to Callan. Brilliant service. Very welcoming and knowledgeable on the dishes and cocktails. Thank you for making the birthday celebration so special

Came here in July when we had a heatwave. The place was lovely chilled vibes with excellent service overlooking the sea. It was my first time trying oysters i recommend they were fresh and tasty. I enjoyed the lobster roll also for mains. Well worth a visit with friends.

We very much enjoyed our unlimited shrimp lunch. The service was fantastic, and the staff very friendly and helpful. The portion size was great, although we felt the selection of dishes could have benefited from a greater variation of flavours. Nevertheless we felt it was great value for money and we'll definitely be coming back again.

My husband & I went to the Oyster Creek Kitchen for dinner last night. It’s always caught our eye as it’s in such a nice location but have always been put off by bad reviews before now. However, they have obviously done a lot of work to turn it around and everything was perfect! The service was impeccable and very attentive, the decor and vibe of the restaurant is lovely and feels very beach club-esque. The food was amazing!!! We had the oysters, calamari and king prawns to start with fish & chips for the main. It was incredible & probably the best fish and chips I’ve had in years - so light, it just melted in the mouth! The starters were divine too. We will definitely be back and will be recommending it all our family & friends too.

Carvery
American restaurant
Breakfast restaurant
Toby Carvery Southend (A127) is a timeless, family-friendly restaurant that specializes in serving traditional British roast meats in a carvery-style. They offer a variety of options for everyone, including kids' menus and classic desserts. The establishment takes pride in providing high-quality meals, ensuring that every element of their dishes is prepared properly. While the food generally receives positive feedback, some customers have noted that the beef can occasionally be tough.
I have been coming to Toby Carvery Southend for lunch on a regular basis, and I can honestly say it remains one of the most reliable and enjoyable places to eat in the area. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with warmth and professionalism. The staff here are consistently attentive, friendly, and efficient, which makes every visit a very pleasant experience. Good service is often what separates a decent meal from a memorable one, and this team always delivers. The carvery itself is exactly what you would hope for – generous portions, freshly carved meats, and a wide variety of vegetables and accompaniments. Everything is prepared with care and served hot, which gives the meal that comforting, home-style quality that Toby Carvery is known for. The roast potatoes are always crisp, the Yorkshire puddings are huge, and the gravy ties everything together perfectly. It is hearty, satisfying food that never disappoints. What I appreciate most is the consistency. No matter when I come in, I can rely on the same high standard of both food and service. That reliability is why I always choose Toby Carvery Southend for lunch. It is not just about filling a plate; it is about feeling welcomed and looked after while enjoying a proper roast dinner. The restaurant itself is clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. There is plenty of space, yet the atmosphere always feels cosy. It is suitable for dining alone, with family, or meeting friends, and the value for money is excellent considering the quality and portion sizes. In summary, Toby Carvery Southend sets a great example of how a carvery restaurant should be run. I will continue to make it my regular lunch spot and happily recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, tasty meal with excellent service.

A bit pricey for what it is, but did taste good. Roast potatoes were phenomenal. Decor quite dated. Staff were helpful and friendly. Would come again for low-key grub.

My partner and I ate at The Bell last night. All meats were excellent. Mashed potatoes was not available but all other 8 vegetables were fresh and delicious. Service throughout was friendly and efficient. To cap it all my partner had a 25% discount voucher so our 2 superb meals came to less than £16! Unbeatable. No wonder we keep coming back to this place.

Often visit this Toby for lunch, usually during the week as we prefer it when less busy. David was so welcoming and let us have a table away from the serving area, at our request. Kyle was very friendly and had a chat with us while carving. Turkey and beef were both tasty. Peas a bit on the crunchy side though. Jasmine was great and made an excellent Irish coffee! We will be back again soon.

Although we come here often with family, this was the worst service we have ever received. The guy welcoming people kept on lifting his shirt scratching his belly. The servers were getting moaned at about the wait and he didn't once step in to take the load of them. The chef carving the meat looked overwhelmed by his workload. He first changed the lamb, served one person ,changed the beef served one person, changed the turkey served one person, sausages ran out,off he went again, then the plates ran out and again off he went. It took roughly 40 minutes for us to get to front of the queue. There was only 8 people in front of us. All while this was happening his fellow chefs were coming out distracting him by doing takeaway orders and even stood doing nothing whilst waiting for him to move. I work in catering and was really upset that they couldn't help him. What on earth has happened to team work. The waitress was nice though

Wow I came her today with my family, all the staff are very friendly and polite. Especially the manager David who made sure that we were happy with our meals , showed us to outlets table . Thank you for a lovely experience xx

The Pipe of Port is a charming Dickensian-style bar located just a short walk from the Southend seafront. This establishment has been a staple in the town since 1976 and is known for its traditional British fare, particularly its pies and steaks. The ambiance is enhanced by candlelight and sawdust floors, creating a unique and cozy atmosphere. In addition to an impressive selection of wines, they also offer craft beers and cocktails.
Honestly one of my top 2 dining experiences, and I worked as a chef for years in London. The food was beautifully prepared and tasted amazing, the wines were impeccably chosen and recommended....but it's the staff I will come back for. So friendly, so helpful, and so fun. Incredible.

The entrance down the stairs is quite dark, and with sunshine and photochromic glasses I was nearly blind! Short menu, with mostly cold choices. Starter was a pate with Melba toast. Not the easiest to eat as so dark. Main was cold rare beef with salad and a superb baked potato. The potato was superbly cooked, absolutely perfect. The salad with it was delicious but again hard to see. The beef was nice and mostly rare, though the added 6cms of string was a little texture surprise. Nice staff as I say, only negative was the darkness issue.

This is such a traditional, atmospheric Restuarant. Our host, Fay, looked after us so well. I had the steak and kidney pie with jacket potato, fabulous! Of course I started with white port, very nice and good measure. Sawdust on the floor is a great touch. Comprehensive wine list. Would thoroughly recommend a visit to this cosy Restuarant 👍

The Pipe of Port is honestly a hidden gem in Southend. It doesn’t look like much from the outside but when you go downstairs underground it’s a cove full of wines and knowledgeable staff that will talk to you about the history of the wine. It’s fantastic. The food is amazing and I’ll definitely be heading back there again. They are most definitely wine buffs. I would highly recommend heading to the Pipe of Port for an evening dinner.

Last minute booking request on Saturday night, that Ben sorted for me and fitted us in for Sunday lunch, accompanied by The Ron Spack Trio, jazz band. Ben is a very nice guy, his team supportive around him and the food and drinks were very good. Ben took time to speak with us, getting to know his customers and shared the forthcoming menu, which looks very nice and that we will be back for. Thanks Ben and team, hope the restaurant goes from strength to strength. Cheers

We we're a family group that recently eat at this lovely restaurant. From our intal arrival to receiving our food was second to none. The young lad whom greeted us & the manger that made himself known to us. What personally thought was a lovely touch, was when the manager came over to the table & introduced himself with a hand shake to our family member that booked the table. I'm a veteran & I felt humbled when the manger git me another drink & thank me for service, something that I always say, it's was my job. The food was of the highest quality for sure, from the pasta to the steak we all had. Cooked to perfection, when we settled the bill, the other added touch was the brandy & baileys to finish our night off. I'd most definitely recommend this restaurant & for us, not being from this area, will definitely be back when we visit. Please our thanks to your team & to the chefs. Remember what I said to you, I never give a 10 out of 10 as I believe we're always striving for the 10. From us, it's definitely a 10 out of 10. Looking forward to our next visit.

The service, care and attention given by Ben and his amazing team was faultless and made our day extra special. They went over and above in every detail and we cannot thank them enough. The food was outstanding, you rarely get such high quality in mass catering events like this, but all guests were absolutely raving about their 3 courses. Would strongly recommend this venue, whether just for a meal out or any event. Will definitely be returning. Big love to Ben and the team.

Nestled in the charming Leigh-on-Sea, Featherblade is a delightful steakhouse that promises an unforgettable dining experience. This cozy eatery boasts a warm atmosphere, complete with nostalgic tunes that transport you back in time. Guests rave about the attentive service from staff like Vivien and Ben, who make everyone feel like VIPs. The New York Strip steak is a standout dish, perfectly cooked to medium and paired beautifully with creamy spinach and mushrooms.
We absolutely love it here - one of our go-to places! The steak is always cooked how we like it and the sides are amaaaaazing (especially the mac and cheese, prawns and the salads). We’ve been here a few times and the younger girls who serve us are so lovely and friendly. Great choice of drinks - I always get a cocktail and my partner gets craft beer. Highly recommend!!
Meg J — Google review
It was our first time visiting Featherblade for our date, and we ordered two patties and a macaroni cheese, both of which were very nice. The staff were friendly and accommodating; however, the atmosphere was not great. A family had booked half the restaurant for a birthday party. The music was extremely loud, to the point where we couldn’t hear each other, and people were constantly walking around us, brushing against us, and standing over our table. On occasion, their hair even brushed onto our table, which made us feel uncomfortable. It was unpleasant for anyone who wasn’t part of that booking. I could hear the table next to us also expressing frustration with the volume of the music, as the speaker was directly above them. We eventually moved tables as soon as another became available, and the staff were helpful and understanding. We’re writing this review not to discredit the restaurant or its staff but to suggest that, in the future, better systems are put in place for events like birthday parties. This would help ensure a more pleasant experience for other diners. It would have been preferable if the restaurant had contacted us to adjust our booking, given that such an event was taking place at the same time. We would recommend this restaurant for its food and staff, but we hope the atmosphere will be improved in similar situations moving forward.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great dining experience!

The whole experience at this resturant was INCREDIBLE. Both of the ladies who were serving us/making our drinks were so friendly and genuinely kind people, who made us feel super comfortable and at home & they explained everything so well, since we hadn't been before. The T-Bone steak was cooked to perfection and all of the sides were equally as yummy. The cocktails were extremely tasty and so smooth. The price was so good for the food and service that you get. We came for our 8 year anniversary and it was the best dining experience we've had in a long time.
Amber B — Google review
The good: service was fine, the salad and dressing were lovely. I asked for a medium rare steak and it was perfectly medium rare. The bad: didn't get to experience the flavour of the steak at all. The entire flavour was charcoal. Utterly pointless ordering a steak if you don't get the flavour of it. Also the music was obnoxiously loud.
David — Google review
My friend and I have been here a few times and have always enjoyed it. Last night though we felt let down. The wine bottle arrived opened already which I didn’t like. When I asked the waitress why it was opened already she mumbled an answer. I should have asked for a fresh bottle but didn’t. We both ordered off the wall (TBone for me @ £45 and Fillet for her @ £30). My steak was nicely cooked, but her fillet was underdone. She’s too polite to say anything which is a shame. The chips were cold (replaced quickly) but all the other sides were good and tasty. I ordered the sundae for dessert which was nice; although you can tell it’s all pre made and lives in a freezer until ordered(?). What let’s this place down is the service. We didn’t pay any service charge as we didn’t feel the meal warranted any; also it’s not automatically added onto the bill. No one came to ask us how our food was, whether we’d like to order another bottle of wine etc. We both agreed we wouldn’t go back.

I’ve been to Thames Breeze a few times now in quiet and lively times and have to say the service and food are excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful and prices very reasonable. My only criticism is their decaf coffee. Please please get a decent filter decaf! Your normal coffee is great but I can’t drink that in the evening. Apart from that it’s perfect.

I didn't eat when I visited, as I tend to pop in for a few drinks mid afternoon when I get a chance, but the food being served to other people looks absolutely amazing. I will have to dine here soon. The owners are friendly and welcoming and I already feel after only a few visits that I'm part of the ThamesBreeze family. Edit (Dec '23): I've now eaten here and visited a lot more regularly. The food is fabulous, and the staff and atmosphere is excellent every time. And they *really* know how to do Christmas (see pic) Update (Dec '24): Has become a second home! Food is still wonderful, Christmas this year is even brighter and better. And I've been to a couple of really good karaoke afternoons on special occasions.

I've heard great things about this restaurant, which is why I brought my family, including relatives visiting all the way from Dubai. Unfortunately, our experience was completely ruined by the service. We were seated for a full 15 minutes and were completely ignored by our waitress, who was preoccupied with a friend. She looked at our table many times but never came over. When my mother finally had to ask for menus to which we said we would look and see if we will stay, the waitress's response was, "I don't care either way." The lack of professionalism was shocking. We left and took our business elsewhere, where we were treated with the kindness and hospitality you'd expect for a large group spending a great deal on drinks and lunch out.

Food Shack Street Food offers a diverse and satisfying menu with generous portions. The Chicken Gyros, although not traditional, was described as delicious and the Margarita pizza was fresh and oven-hot. The service is excellent with friendly and attentive staff. The paella was highlighted as a standout dish that could easily serve two people. Additionally, the seafood dishes were praised for their freshness and great flavors.
Popped in for lunch when we were at the beach nearby - service was great (friendly and attentive but not overbearing) and the food was outstanding. Everything was cooked perfectly and the seafood was all extremely fresh-tasting. Dessert was also fantastic. Very unpretentious environment and a classic seafood menu with amazing flavours. Clearly a place that really cares about doing things to the highest standard. We spent about £80 on two mains, one dessert (big enough to share) and two rounds of soft drinks including service and felt it was very reasonable value given the cost of ingredients, location and extremely generous portion sizes. Stopped by for a quick drink. Located on the main road through Leigh-on-Sea. Nice Italian/English (mostly Italian) restaurant. Not a huge place and the tables inside are a bit tightly packed but thankfully we went after the lunch time rush so were able to get a table inside because it was so hot outside, they do have seats outside on a balcony along the front though. Really beautiful look to the place, modern with a Mediterranean feel.We didn't stay to eat but the menu did look very enticing. Service was very welcoming, inviting and friendly, thanks to the young lady working the bar, she was very helpful. Drinks choice was good at reasonable prices. If we get chance to visit Leigh-on-Sea again I'd definitely like to try the food there.

We popped into The Food Shack for a quick drink and a little nibble, and we were so glad we did! The battered cod was absolutely beautiful—the fish was fresh, and the batter was soft and light. The staff were also lovely and made our visit a real pleasure. We'll definitely be back again soon

I see different opinions here but decided to try. I booked a table and wasn't disappointed!!!! What a delicious and fresh food! Great experience, although we had a new waitress serving us, but she was super helpful! The restaurant was super busy, sometimes a bit scary, especially by the sea. You never know what to expect! Highly recommend! And we are back... Absolutely delicious! Fresh and soooo tasty... Great staff too

Had calamari to start followed by specials pasta and halibut. Large portions, very hot and tasty. It was quiet compared to some other places but was definitely worth a visit.

Don Amici's is a charming little Italian pizza restaurant that captures the essence of family and good food. Nestled in a cozy back street, this delightful eatery is run by its owner, who also serves as the chef, ensuring an authentic dining experience. The menu features traditional thin-crust pizzas that are simply unbeatable, alongside homemade desserts like pandoro—a delightful sponge cake perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth.
very small restaurant with only 1 staff member, the owner. The food was great and affordable, and I am definitely coming back to try other dishes

A lovely little back street Italian restaurant. The owner is the chef so you can't get better than that. Reasonable prices. Food is unbeatable served by Alexandria himself. A definite return is on the cards. Thank you 😊

As you can see from the photos this is exactly how my food arrived. The pizza was awful 10 pieces of pepperoni hardly any cheese and delivered like warm, the desert was delivered just as you see it. Cold chocolate fudge cake which should have been at least warm, melted ice-cream. Unfortunately won't order again.

My local restaurant. My favourite restaurant in Southend. Small, simple, no nonsense, reasonably priced, great chef, beautiful food. Support this place, we're lucky to have Alex.

A wonderful little restaurant, plenty of character and charm, hosted by a friendly chef/owner. Good value, will be returning!

I never left a bad review on Google but the way this restaurant handled my call after finding hair in the food is not acceptable. I just ordered this via my deliveroo app, half way through a massive chunk of hair under the chicken, my wife literally threw up and the food was binned. I called the restaurant and all I wanted was an apology, instead the guy tried to explain to me for 5 minutes that what I'm looking at (and what he hasn't seen yet) cannot be hair because the Chef wears a hat. Eventually he said sorry and offered a free pasta next time (no thanks). Also started giving me scientific explanation about what hair is, how it doesn't fall apart in food...that really was more upsetting than the hair. It's a shame, if it wasn't for the hair, this could have been a 3-star review as the taste wasn't too bad.
