The restaurant was fully booked but this was fine as we wanted to sit outside on the glorious night. We both had burgers and while £22 seemed expensive reading it on the menu - the burgers were delicious!! The patty was thick, came with lovely toppings and a generous helping of some real tasty chips and onion rings! (I had eaten a good few before this picture). I would call by again as a treat as we did spend more than we expected but quality makes you forgive this. Watching the sun set here was great! Hopefully will book ahead for the restaurant next time too.

It’s advisable to book because the food is fabulous. Great service and a wonderful menu with tempting daily specials. The flour-free chocolate dessert is always a winner. We had to wait quite some time for our food to come out from the kitchen. The two soups we ordered were lukewarm as they had obviously been dished up whilst waiting on the baked potato being cooked. I ordered the Tomato, Halloumi and pesto salad which arrived nicely presented but I can quite honestly say that I've never tasted such a bland salad dressing in all my life. After 1hr 30 mins I asked for the bill, 20mins later it still had not arrived whilst others had ordered and eaten their deserts and left in that time. I had to eventually go to the bar to pay. The staff were pleasant but clearly understaffed however the food was shockingly bad. To make matters worse before I left other people ordered roast beef and no one told them they had run out so I presume someone must have ran out to supermarket to buy packets of roast beef. I choose this restaurant after a few friends recommendations. Having worked on St Andrews for quite a few years I somehow never visited the venue, although I did hear about the revamp. So we decided to try it out. We decided not to have any expectations, as it can always go both ways. Having been sited upstairs we soon realised that place is quite busy on Wednesday night, no wonder in St Andrews in the summertime, but you don't feel like you sit on top of other tables. Very cosy. Our waitress Charlie was beyond professional and it was nice to see a person enjoying her job and making it a great evening for the customers. Believe me, I know how difficult it can be int he summer. However, the star of the evening was, of course, the food. We did have a few recommendations prior to coming and decided to follow them. Venison carpaccio and scallops to start and lamb and duck for the main course. Portions not huge, but perfect to feel full without overeating. Topped up with a bottle of lovely Pinot Noir. The drinks are reasonably priced and the service is great. The locals are super friendly and welcoming. We really appreciated the spacious TV room at the back of the establishment so that big screens did not interfere with the old time charm of the bar. The only critique is that the view from the back is spectacular yet it is completely obscured by a wooden fence...what a shame. The large posters in front and back were just a little obnoxious and detracted from the atmosphere of an otherwise outstanding local pub. Love the fact that the establishment welcomes dogs as well as humans.
