So after years and years of wanting to try Chips at No 8 Today on Good Friday I decided to go there after watching my Beloved Oldham Athletic Vs Hartlepool United.
So I arrived parking is extremely hard as there is a small car park but it is always busy, The roads and side roads are double yellow lines or permit holders only.
So I headed in and I have long known about the Fantastic reputation that Chips at No 8 has both locally, regionally and Nationally etc.
I arrived it was pouring with Rain 🌧 and people were literally queing out of the door, So as it was my first time at Chips at No 8 I joined the queue.
As I finally made it inside of the chip shop a member of staff asked if I wanted to order a drink while I waited but I didn't think I would be that long so I politely refused.
After about 25 minutes I finally made it to the front of the Queue so with it being Good Friday I opted for a large portion of Fish and chips with mushy peas and I ordered a small fish 🐟 and chips 🍟 for my Wife with a side order of gravy.
After you pay(You can pay cash or card) you get a ticket 🎟 number and stand in the bar area(There are limited seats) and there is an upstairs to wait, After over an hour my order was finally ready so I grabbed my order and drove home.
I knew the fish 🐟 and chips would be great but Wow without a shadow of doubt the best fish and chips I have ever eaten, The fish was light and fluffy, fresh and the crispy batter was amazing, The chips were thick, cooked to perfection and again were light and fluffy and cooked perfectly and the portion size was just enough.
My Wife really enjoyed her Fish and chips and the portion size was the perfect size for her and she managed to finish the lot.
The takeaway/Bar was spotlessly clean, Super polite and friendly staff, Expensive but you have to pay extra for quality, You can pay cash or card, Be prepared to wait but my God is it worth it.

Another that has been on the list for some time, as there isn't an end to the articles that say this is a must try. Felt obliged to get the fish, chips & mushy peas this time round.
Don't have a bad word to say about it tbh, the fish was very fresh and fried well. The chips and mushy peas were okay, from previous readings I was expecting one of the best offerings I have had but it didn't quite reach that level for me.
I think this one just comes down to preference & wouldn't want to put people off as it is definitely worth a try and the menu is not only limited to your normal chippy fare

I'm from NZ where we pride ourselves on the quality of our fish and chips but i know UK is the home of a chippy tea and Chips @No.8 didn't disappoint. Delicious flaky haddock, gorgeous agria chips, mushy peas and the best gravy I've ever eaten. Not the cheapest fish and chips perhaps but definitely the best.

A big let-down sadly
Been wanting to try No.8 for ages after all the hype. Finally went tonight - ordered two cod & chips with mushy peas, tartar sauce and curry sauce (asked for it to be fried in veg oil). But honestly… pretty disappointed. The chips were like cardboard and the fish was weirdly chewy - cod should flake, not fight back. I’d even saved up the calories for it! My brother swears by this place, and I don’t mind paying extra for a proper chippy tea, but this just didn’t hit the mark. Shame really, because the tartar sauce and mushy peas were really good - just a pity the main event wasn’t. Won’t be rushing back.

We can here for National Fish and Chip day and it was the best fish and chips ever.
What I love is you can order a takeaway, have a beer whilst you wait and if need to eat your takeaway downstairs. For someone who lives a 20 min car journey away it means you get the pleasure of eating your takeaway warm.

So we ordered the food and ate in the seating area upstairs.
The fish batter is nice and light, although slightly under seasoned. Hence 4 stars. The haddock was a decent size and fresh.
Chips were cooked in beef dripping and delicious.
If you want fish and chips then this is the place in Prestwich.

Hearing about a traditional fish and chip shop in Prestwich, complete with a restaurant and bar, and cooking in beef-dripping with the option for vegetable oil (call to confirm vegetable oil availability), I was compelled to check it out.
Upon entering the shop, I found myself in the bar area, with access to the restaurant located upstairs. The bar was furnished with tables, chairs, and stools for those wishing to enjoy a drink or avoid the stairs.
It is encouraging to see young people engaged in the fish and chip shop trade, potentially leading to more traditional establishments in the future.
The cod, although slightly smaller than expected, was delicious and cooked to perfection. The chips were among the best I’ve had in a long time. The pea fritters, black pudding fritters, and tartare sauce were also excellent.
In-house pies were available as well, so I sampled the cheese and onion and meat and potato varieties and can recommend both.
There is parking available across the street and on-street. However, the opening hours might not suit those looking for a lunchtime meal, as at the time of this review, the hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM, and closed on Sunday and Monday.

The staff are friendly but the food is appalling for starters I ordered a fish barm and I literally work around the corner from the shop and by time I sat down to eat the food was swimming in a pool of oil I was try to use tissue to remove it I then attempted to try and salvage something as I was really hungry the bread was like wet paper and the fish was cold in the middle and theat was enough it all ended up in the bin... and they can't use the excuse of being busy as there was only one before mine and no one else. Very disappointed.

Absolutely disgusting burger that was raw and cold. Two men who work there are so rude, made us wait 20 mins for the burger meanwhile I ate my chips and then the man came over and said to me “wow you must have been hungry” in an aggressive tone. The burger was absolutely vile, uneatable. The chips are ok but nothing special. Not to mention they try and rip you off by charging you an extra 40 p for sauces. Joke of a chippy and will not be returning!!

The chips were as you'd expect, however the peas were quiet water, and the fish was pretty poor.
It wasn't flakey or soft, but instead tough and chewy.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon on our way to the theatre. Was a lovely find and the walk to the restaurant is actually nice too through the town. The staff were friendly and the food was nice. A quiet and comfy restaurant located right opposite to the Bolton bus interchange. Had to order at the counter but all the staff members were very friendly, helpful and professional. Food was nice, especially the pepperoni pizza topped with a very generous amount of cheese. Their soup of the day was tasty too. It was vegetable soup, creamy enough to be a nice dip for the chips.
P.S. love their choice of music. Their playlist featured a lot of songs of the Bee Gees, which did add some classiness to the vibe of the restaurant.

Situated in the lovely market town of Knutsford in Cheshire, Hooked is nicely positioned, with a park nearby for a stroll and around five dedicated parking spaces to the rear of the shop, where I carried out the review.
Upon entering, the shop was bright, clean, and modern, with helpful and polite staff. It was easy to see the pride in the business.
The food, overall, was delicious. The cod was a good size and thickness—white and fresh, with a subtly sweet taste. The chips were well-sized and thick, with a light, crispy exterior and a soft but not too soft interior. The fish and chips were served with a full round of lemon, sprinkled with fresh parsley.
The in-house tartare sauce was smooth in texture, with a delicious, tangy taste. The mushy peas could have been a little thicker, but they had a wonderful flavour.
The peri-peri chicken-loaded chips were well presented, with a simple structure and a drizzle of garlic mayonnaise. The chips were great, and the shredded chicken was spicy.
The in-house meat-and-potato pie was thick and packed with meat and vegetables, though a shorter cooking time would have prevented it from being overdone, burnt, or dry in places.

We ordered a salt and pepper box, a portion of salt and pepper nuggets, a fish cake, portion of chips, curry sauce and child's fish and chips. And 2 cans.
To start with the takeaway bag was ripped (thankfully the driver told me) and also the drinks were bagged with the food. Why people put cold cans next to hot food I'll never know?. .Makes the drinks warm and food cold its just daft.
Onto the scran..
The salt and pepper box was decent. A fair amount of shredded chicken, popcorn chicken was nice and the nuggets were really good. Everything was well seasoned with a nice amount of onions and peppers and the salt wasn't too harsh like at a lot of places.
The salt and pepper chips were pretty good.
The standard portion of chips was okay. Had worse but definitely had much better from several other chippys in Reddish.
The curry sauce was a nice thickness and consistency, with a subtle heat. Okay flavour. also a decent size tub.
The fish cake was a generous size and had a nice flavour however it just disintegrated and fell apart in my hand every time I tried to hold it. It was really floppy..
The child's fish and chips meal was a decent size for a kid/ adult snack with about 4 little mini fillets however the fish was absolutely dreadful. Some of the worst fish I've ever had. The batter was really soggy and mushy and the fish was mushy it was just really unpleasant.
I could understand if it travelled for miles in the takeaway bag but it was literally delivered up the road 5 mins max to Houldsworth Square area.
Absolutely terrible fish.
Overall a mix of decent, average and woeful. All in delivered for around £20 with promotion I'd argue just about acceptable and good value for money if everything was good - which it wasn't.
Without the uber discount would have been £30+ I would have been very upset spending that for the quality on offer.

The Dolphin in Reddish, Stockport is one of my favourite places for fish and chips in Manchester. They have a large gluten-free menu with many options.
The gluten-free fish and chips are really good — the fish is good quality, the batter is crispy, and the chips are hot and fresh. The curry sauce was pretty good; it isn’t very spicy, so it goes well with the fish. I did find it to be slightly too salty though, so I’ll ask them to be a little lighter on it next time.
The staff seemed friendly and aware of allergies and cross-contamination, with gluten-free options clearly listed in the shop.
The negatives are only small — I did dislike the packaging, as everything was separate, which I felt was kind of wasteful and made it harder to eat. Having the fish and chips together in one box would have been handy (I like to eat outside in my car). This place does also seem to be more expensive than others, so it can be a little pricey.

Definitely the best fish & chip shop in the area. My first visit at around 18:30 on a Friday evening, there was a constant stream of customers. This means the place is very popular, and for good reason. There was a bit of a queue and I waited almost 10 minutes to be served. But they have a good, efficient system to keep the line moving. There were at least five employees behind the counter and food is constantly being cooked. After paying, it took only moments before walking out with my order. I had fish & chips and a can on Pepsi for £6.40. Not exactly cheap and the portion of chips was rather small. But the fish was of high quality and both the fish and chips were cooked to perfection, served piping hot and tasted delicious. I would definitely come here again and recommend to anyone.

This excellent family-run chippy came highly recommended to me through The Chippy Tour, so I couldn't resist stopping by. It's located on what could be considered a small high street. There is on-street parking available when spaces are free, and just around the corner, a very short walk away, is a public car park.
The shop was clean and tidy, and the staff were friendly, polite, and helpful. The young girls serving were eager to assist and quick to help each other. The focus is on traditional chippy fare, including steak and kidney, and steak puddings, catering for those who, like me, aren't particularly fond of kidney.
The cod and chips were exactly what you'd expect from a good chippy that's popular with the local community. The cod was of a good size, encased in nice, crispy batter. The chips were nice too. The mushy peas and curry sauce had a good consistency and were tasty. The jalapeño bites with chipotle dip were a nice addition, as was the portion of battered black pudding, which was cooked to perfection.

We arrived 25 minutes late and the food was still hot which was great! The lady who served us was lovely too. The chips were chippy chips but a little bit stale. The fish and battered sausage however were the worst I have ever tasted. The sausage was clearly a poor quality meat, and was drier than the Sahara. We weren’t disappointed, we were made welcome, we were shown to our table which I had reserved, there was air-con on in the restaurant which was very welcoming.
The staff were very attentive, choices of drinks were offered, I went for the Jumbo Fish & Chips, includes a choice of peas, bread and butter and of course a choice of drinks.

The pub had a cosy ambience and was playing a very nice selection of songs. Unfortunately my experience was ruined by the time for my food to arrive. This is more so its 330pm on a weekday. I placed my order for fish and chips and calamari through the online order system. At the half hour mark I reminded the waitress about my food. Its only 15 minutes after that the food arrived. While food is not bad and waitress had apologised, the damage was already done. If the online ordering system doesn't work properly then scrap it to spare customers from misery.

I had such a fantastic time at O’Neill’s in the Printworks Manchester. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming with great music that kept the energy going all night. Having viewed a TikTok video about the Town Street Fryer, it looked great and I had to check it out. Situated on the high street in Marple Bridge, which is a beautiful district, there’s a small car park to the side of the shop, and a large free car park just down the road a little, on the corner and on the same side as the shop.
Although I wasn't going to miss out on the fish and chips, it was the pies I had my sights on, and what incredible pies they were. I chose four pies made in-house: mature cheddar cheese and onion, steak and ale (Boddingtons), chicken leek and tarragon, and steak and cheddar cheese. Each pie was absolutely delicious, with plenty of high-quality filling and perfect pastry.
The haddock and chips were nice, with the batter on the fish being gluten-free. The fish was fresh, white, and subtle in flavour. The curry sauce was slightly spicy, smooth, and delicious. The mushy peas were spot on, made in-house, and just the right colour and thickness.
The chips were okay, though a little thicker would have been nice, as the portion of fish and chips wasn’t particularly large. However, each and every item of food was top quality and super tasty.

Inappropriate language & behaviour towards my 15 year old daughter! My daughter was served by this man apparently he has a track record of making inappropriate comments but we thought we would give it a try as he was the only chippy open so we had no other option. My daughter entered in her school clothes which was a skirt and blouse etc where this man thought it was appropriate to tell her to unfasten her buttons for a free sausage! Then strangely asked her for her mobile number and said he would deliver it personally and not charge her if she came in every other day to check in on him! There is more to this and it has been reported to the local authorities. She managed to capture a few images of the chap which has helped us identify him but there is no reason for this type of behaviour. I hope this review is seen by others so we can all keep our children safe!

Turning up at Woodley Precinct, I found plenty of parking available. From the outside, the shop looked well presented, with an open-air seating area at the front, no doubt available when the weather is fair. You could see straight through from the front to the internal seating area, all the way to the counter and kitchen, where the staff were working hard in matching uniforms. They were pleasant, polite, and quick to take my order.
I went for the large cod, which was beautifully fresh and full of flavour, served in a light, crisp batter with plenty of crunch, accompanied by a slice of lemon and a complimentary small tub of tartare sauce. The chips were moreish, with a crispy exterior and soft, tasty centres. The mushy peas were thick, and full of plump whole peas, and it was a generous portion. The curry sauce was deliciously thick, subtly sweet, and layered with flavour. The potato scallops were prepared and cooked to perfection. They’re not the easiest item to get right, but they were indeed done right here.
Overall, the quality and service were excellent, and it was easy to see why the shop and staff had earned so many awards.

It’s my first time with the restaurant. Fortunately, it was a nice experience through delivery service, as it was fast and I got warm fresh food.
I ordered double cheesed burger, it was a good and delicious but too meaty as it has four layers of meat, therefore I preferred the cheesed burger which has only two layers of meat which also considered as a good portion sandwich.
Also, I had one freebird chicken burger, it was fresh, simple and hot. It’s not the best but it was very good.
All cost me around 30 pounds, but it was enough for 2 normal eaters.

Well I had given up hope of finding a good chippy until I heard about the awards these guys won and decided to try them. I know fried chicken is sometimes forbidden when it comes to a fish and chips but I honestly recommend you try their chicken because it’s the nicest you will find anywhere. The portion size was perfect, chips were fluffy and the brownie for dessert was incredible, just the right amount of flour was used, it was gooey rich and with just the right amount of kinder bueno as a topper to really compliment the chocolate of the brownie. There were two women serving, one had dark hair and was amazing, very pleasant and chatty whilst I was waiting for my fish to be cooked. Then other woman (bleached blonde hair) however could not have been more different. Usually I’d never complain about fresh food but it made me late for Asr prayer. Onto the food itself, the cod bites and the prawns lacked flavour, bit greasy and I relied on the sauces to make it better. The cheeseburger was your usual chippy burger, nothing wrong with that when it’s only £6.50 for a meal however the chips were awful. The mild chilli sauce is up there with one of the best sauces I’ve ever had, it made everything taste a lot better. Definitely overrated but it was worth trying

Having worked in the village for a number of years the Village Chippy has been my "go-to" place for food after a night out or during my shift! Always greeted with a smile and really good food! We have been loyal customers of this establishment for a long time, often enjoying the food and service. Unfortunately, during Pride weekend, our experience fell well below expectations.
We placed a clear order for gravy and chips with a large battered sausage, and curry and chips with a large battered sausage. Instead, what we received was just a sausage with curry sauce, which we only realised upon arriving home.

I loved this chippy but moved away to Liverpool so when coming back I was looking forward to ordering again. £5 for a cheesy chip and the portion size was just negligible. I did ask for half cheese and half not so please ignore that for they accommodated me there but I’m now in the process of making myself some dinner as the 14 pound paid for the chicken and chips didn’t fill me up at all. This place was fantastic too and the portion sizes were always much better. The meal itself tasted nice and that is the reason for the 3 stars, I’m just hungry now.

So I went to this place last week as I’ve heard positive reviews about their Fish & Chips.
I decided to order Masala Fish with chips and it costed around £10 as I also added a drink with my order.
The order was ready in around 7-9 minutes as I was told they cook fresh.

Gave the 'Chicken Steak Burger a whirl' to see what it even was. It's basically a processed chicken burger. It was on a buy one get one free offer, so I got what I paid for there.
Also tried the scallops with the sauce. Now this was an interesting one. It looked really odd, but have to admit the flavour was quite nice.

OMG stopped at the chippy on the way home as we just fancied a chippy tea. My husband had the fish and I had the steak pudding and they were both absolutely delicious. My daughter and I bought in-store.
As soon as we walked in, the heavenly smell hit us, and we both proclaimed how good it smelt.
The room was clean, tidy, and nicely decorated and we even made reference to the art details that were painted on the wall 👌
I ordered a small cod, it was really cute, and actually ample for me (middle aged woman) as a main, and I reckon it'd be ample for my 14 year old son (who eats loads) too. My daughter chose the sausage which she tells me was "yeah, it was good" (high praise from a teenager 😆).
I shared a large chips with my 16 year old, to accompany our mains. Again, it filled the two of us, but it did look a *lot* smaller than I had expected it would be, as there were three sizes to choose from so I would imagine this to be a medium at an average chippy. I had hoped for that price, to have left overs to share with the other kids when we got home, but as it stands, please just don't tell them that we went, and I reckon we can just about get away without them knowing that we'd had it without them 😆
The pots of gravy and mushy peas were tiny. No where near enough to accompany the half a large chips per pot that we had planned on. And at £2.00 a pot I expected much more. I suspect much of the costing went on the very nice thick paper cups, the wooden cutlery wrapped with napkins, and of course a side of healthy profit.
The food was amazing! It was hot, crisp, salted to just the right amount, and beautifully flavourful. In fact, all food pics were taken after sampling a couple of mouthfuls because there was no way I was waiting to start so I could take a photo first 😆
Finally let's talk about prices. It's much more than I'd usually be willing to spend in a local chippy, but... It was extra quality along side the extra cost, so I guess it's a case of "getting what you pay for".
So would I come back? If I had the money and it was a treat, then, yes I would! And I'd be keen to try the battered halloumi. But it's not something I could frequent as a regular occurrence due to its prices, in this cost of living crisis.
Constructive suggestion; a couple of seats in there for the chance to sit while your food is being freshly cooked, would've been ideal and a real blessing to me.

I put an order in for 2 Large Cod 1 Sausage and a regular chips. We have been going here regularly. However this evening the Cod looked burnt and was all curled up. It appeared the oil was to hot.. when I said I wasnt happy the manager Natasha stepped in rather officious asking what I didn't like about the fish was it just that it was all curled up. She obviously lacks people skils and is not aware of the term your customer is usually right. I ended up getting a refund and leaving. The fact that its over priced at just under £33.00 for this order you would think she would have changed it. I've spoken to a friend of mine at the NFFF and a contact of ny brothers at the Food Standards Agency all agreed that the way food is served to the customer says a lot about the buisness. Especially as Fish & Chip shops have a large margin of tax write off due to waste.. My husband was in there a few weeks ago and they had forgotten to put tge Large Cod he had ordered in so he was left waiting for ages. At least I've been able to shine a spotlight on this issue.

Ordered from Uber Eats so I can’t comment on service or atmosphere, but I can on the flavours.
It was fresh but the balance of flavours from the Jollof were really wrong. Far too much curry powder taste, and there was chunks of pepper skin in there unblended.
It just tasted like a home cooks version of what they think Jollof is meant to be, and even the rice and peas were super pale & bland and missed colouring from the fresh kidney beans.
The patty was really good though, but the jerk chicken didn’t have any Smokey flavouring sadly.

On Tuesday we dined in and ordered 3 fish and chips meal deals, 1 with curry sauce and 2 with mushy peas. I went there during the jazz festival and I really liked the place. It has a notice board once you go in with a plethora of upcoming events, such as a queer quiz and an anticipated summer party. With various benches and a grass pitch for bowls events, it’s a great place to spend your evenings listening to jazz or catching up with your mates.
There is a smaller room for hire and the main venue with a bar. If you get a membership there which is £30 a year you get 10-15% off your drinks I think, which is a great deal I would say.
Staff are friendly and very efficient. I enjoyed going there and will go again.

I’m not one to overstate the brilliance of takeaways, if it’s bad, I’ll say so. But Uncle B’s is really good. I can’t speak for the experience of others, but mine has been one of genuine pleasure every time, over several years.
This time, I went for a desi chicken pizza and a large portion of chips. The pizza wasn’t like most others you’ll find that have either too much going on or too little. The balance of toppings is perfect. The dough has the perfect amount of crunch whilst also being soft, and the chicken was tender with just the right level of spice. The chips were hot, fresh, and generously portioned — the kind you actually finish even if you’re already full.

Absolutely disgusting service. I would give ZERO stars if it was possible.
Food arrived 40 minutes late with no apology from the delivery driver. The food was completely cold. Chips were soggy and mostly uncooked. Fish bites had clearly been fried in dirty oil as you can see from the picture. The"masala fish" was old fish that was dry and had some spice mix on it, not battered. The jalapeno bites were overcooked and also inedible.
Uncle B's used to be decent, and have clearly gone downhill.
I was also unable to contact the restaurant and deliveroo only gave a partial refund.

I recently visited Mother Hubbard’s Fish and Chips, and it was an absolutely delightful experience!
Food: The fish was cooked to perfection. Crispy and golden on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside. The chips were fresh, thick-cut, and perfectly seasoned. Everything tasted authentic and freshly prepared.
Service: The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive. They made sure we had everything we needed and served the food promptly, despite the place being busy.

Overall ok. Feels like it’s long John silvers. A quickie fish n chips fast food concept, compared to the traditional fish n chip stalls and stands out there. Waiting time for preparation is slow, about 15 mins. Once again, no sauce provided. Bring your own sauce or buy. Cashier was kind enough to deliver the food to our table. Points for service. Atmosphere kinda felt dull, as mentioned it’s like some fast food dine in concept, and the diners were not locals. In terms of food, chips were not soggy and I think they gave us extra a little, fish was well battered as expected, but I must say the size of the fish n chips kind of varied. For the same fish regular size, one was much bigger than the other.

Iftar buy one get one free, the person over-the-counter was very genuine and an honest person, I got the fish burger dipped in the spicy sauce, value for money it was amazing. The chicken wings were red and ice. The chicken tenders were crispy. The person over-the-counter told me that the chicken burger, the chicken fillet is frozen, should he have not told me that I would’ve ordered the chicken fillet and been very disappointed. So hats off to him for being honest.
We got two drinks, and there is a white selection and variety of what drinks you want. The only thing that I did not like and it tasted not nice was the mushy peas. On the bright side, the curry sauce was absolutely amazing.
