Irvine Park is fun to go to anytime of the year the animals are great the kids have a blast they have playgrounds picnic areas animals walking areas the farm.
Going around Christmas time is one of my favorites the Christmas display that they put on is so cute. They have tons of lights and figures and at the end towards the animals they have stories which my kids love to stop and read..My kids have a blast doing this.
If you go through for the light show there are quite a few cars that go so you may get stuck in a line but it is a decent moving line for the most part.
When you go to see the lights you can walk through the parks and the lights or you can drive.

This is a great park & zoo! We have 3 children 4 and under and are vacationing in Lake Holcombe. The drive wasn’t too long and this is a great stop perfect for an adventure when not looking for an entire day stop. Bear, hyena, cow, eagle, hawk, and other small animals. Two playgrounds, a trail, and views of the river. And it’s free but you may leave a donation if you want. So glad we stopped! Highly recommend a visit!

If you are in the area, this is a MUST. Our expectations were beyond exceeded, and we are literally planning a trip back to see more of the property. The park itself is both massive, and absolutely GORGEOUS. As for the Zoo, what they are doing is amazing. They have delivered a top notch facility for both the animals and guests alike, and I can enjoy the space in good conscious knowing the animals are being cared for incredibly well. Unfortunately this place is small, outdated, and sad. The animals all live on concrete floors with almost no enrichment, and there's about 6 of them to see. When we went they were repairing the lion enclosure, which had broken windows and broken wooden bridges inside for the lion. Sadly the animals do not seem happy or well kept, and the zoo owners seem to be asking for donations on every bad review rather than trying to find better homes for these creatures. Avoid at all costs!

Irvine Park is a beautiful place to explore. A lot of animals to see, nice nature trails with different experience levels, a petting zoo, splash pad, picnic areas and multiple playgrounds. All of the kids (ages 4,10,15) loved the dirt hiking trails by the river, waterfall and rock cliffs. The petting zoo is only opened certain days/times so definitely check if that's what you'd like to see. All of the other zoo animals are in enclosed glass, cages or in large fenced areas outside. The large animals are harder to spot in the fields but more exciting for the kids. Inside you can find frozen drinks, ice cream, snacks, hotdogs and other treats. Plus the museum with tons of really old trinkets, animal furs, even a carriage! I would highly recommend Irvine Park to anyone visiting or local looking for something fun outdoors to do with the family! We go at least once a month if not more! And the Christmas Village every year is breathtaking, definitely check it out if you haven't seen it!

This was a cool place to visit. Seating and atmosphere was awesome. Being from Texas it was cool to see how some places are trying to mimic this concept. The decor and history all around the building was so nice. The multiple choices of beer leaves you wanting to buy more flights. Be careful though there is not food served here so flight two might take you over the limit if you have no food in your stomach. Would have enjoyed the beer tour but I had kids and other people with me. For your family that cannot consume gluten they have options for them to enjoy while enjoy all the beer flavors and mixes.

Really awesome lodge with a large, rotating tap of delicious Leinenkugel beers! The vibe inside the lodge is fun while still feeling cozy. Plus they have a ton of cool merch for sale. I could definitely spend a long time just looking through their merch to be honest 😂 I thought it was all really fun! I liked the stout I tried and the staff here were pretty nice. They also offer tours so I would love to come back for a tour and hang out at the lodge afterwards. I definitely recommend checking out Leinie Lodge if you’re in the area!

When to try something new and found this place. The cheese curds we different than your typical curds in Wisconsin, they were cubed and lightly battered 4.5* for these. The drink menu was long, and the drinks were strong, so 5* for this. I had the house special, smoked bacon wrapped meatloaf, which was nearly perfect. I just needed a tad more salt. It had been a while since we had been to restaurant. We wanted something different and had always had a good meal at Sheeley. I’m not sure what happened but we were disappointed. The prices are crazy! $19 for two tacos?! We normally don’t mind spending a bit more money for quality but the prices are too high. We ordered sandwiches cuz it was like whatever. I ordered a burger and spouse ordered chicken sandwich. Brioche buns for both were dry. Not sure if overheated or old? Spouse said chicken was dry. My burger was not exciting. Truffle fries were less than good. Server was very nice. I hope things didn’t change cuz of new ownership? I hope this was a fluke? I’m not sure I would be back? I regretted ordering burger and wished we could have gone to Valley Burger down the block. Hopefully they can fix issues. Sadly disappointed.

We stopped in to have a quick lunch and walked in to a BUSY lunch rush! The bars dining tables were full, as well as the side dining area, so we sat at the bar. I come to Riverfront park quite often. It is a nice walk from the downtown area of Chippewa Falls. Very clean and the landscaping is wonderful. I love to look at the river and feel peaceful. It has an ampitheater for smaller concerts. A beautiful pavilion for outdoor activities and get togethers.

If the city built a nice playground, installed grills near the pavilions and around the park, placed a few more adult swings, with canopies around the grounds, off the trail . Finding this place is your first challenge. The correct address and directions: "300 Old Eau Claire Road, Chippewa Falls, WI Park along the road near the driveway with a Stelter Inc. sign on the gate". Which leads you to your second problem - parking is non-existent at best, sketchy with a possibility of being towed at worst. See attached photos for the "parking" and "entrance".
The trail getting to Joas is unmaintained and has signage prohibiting all traffic except foot. It is filled with large granite stones and makes for a very bumpy ride if you do bring a bike (as Chippewas websites will encourage!).
Joas itself is a great trail and very off the beaten path with amazing scenery and nature. If you make it there, it is rewarding, but good luck not being tired and ready to turn around by the time you see the official sign for the actual trail.

Here’s the thing, as others have said, once you get to the preserve it’s a sweet little spot. I love the clean little creek meandering through the big old pines. There’s interesting plants (trillium, jack in pulpit, skunk cabbage, star flower,etc) in the woods.
The walk to the trailhead is a little boring but easy as its flat and straight. About a mile. There’s interesting prairie plants along the way (hoary puccoon, wild sage and another artemisia, downy flox, birds foot violet), also some wild cherry and lowbush blueberry once you get in the woods.
It is what you make it! I visit maybe 1x/season to see what’s all growing as a plant lover… but if you just want a good hike I’d look elsewhere.
Parking is just off the side of the road, there’s no signs… scope that out ahead of time. Don’t park/block off the private (quarry?) gravel area near the trailhead.

All other reviews are quite accurate, and I don’t have much to add. I even agree with the one and two star reviews. Hard to find, no parking, long walk on old uneven rail bed to get to trailhead. I consider all of these things as positives in the end. Some families preserved a section of land with big old oaks and pines. A clear sandy bottom small creek runs through it. Highway sounds are barely noticeable. I think this place is amazing and hope more and more people make similar efforts to set aside land for nature as a preserve. It’s not about whether humans can access it or find value necessarily. It’s setting aside land for a higher purpose and I love this little spot.

I love coming here’s. There are pavilions a dock for a boat even a dock for canoes or kayaks. Off of the walkway that goes into the water. There’s also an area for you to fish. There are beautiful trails throughout the park some leading to a Irvine Park there is a man-made waterfall, and there is some teeny tiny ones throughout the park as well, which more like little streams coming off rocks. Beautiful place to take your kids trails are labeled hard or easy and there are signs at the beginning describing the historical landmark.

I held an event at the Cook Rutledge Mansion in August. Sandi, our contact for the event, was very responsive and helpful. Set up for the buffet was done by Bijou Bistro in the dining room and guests were allowed to tour the mansion at their leisure. Some guests mentioned ghosts and a creepy second level which added to the fun evening. We were able to set up bistro tables, coolers and trash receptacles a few hours before the event which was useful. The bathrooms are in the basement. An abundance of parking on the nearby streets.

My grandmother was the curator in the 1980s, so she lived at the mansion. To the man who said they didn’t believe in ghosts but it felt weird in there, let me tell you it is definitely haunted.
Staying there as a child meant sleepless nights and many spooky encounters. The doorbells once connecting each room to the servant’s quarters had to be cut because the bells would ring when nobody was in the rooms pressing the button. There was a female ghost that spends most of her time in the guest room with the claw foot tub and the lace dress. Even my parents, who don’t believe in ghosts, lasted 20 minutes trying to sleep in that room before leaving for a different bedroom. Don’t get me started on playing in the attic as a child amid the vintage 19th century dolls (so creepy) and discarded belongings of past occupants!
It was a gorgeous place to spend the holidays and summers, despite being terrified of any moment alone in the mansion. It’s so worth a visit!

We stayed at Lake Wissota State Park for four days during weekdays, and it was super peaceful and very quiet. Very few dogs and little barking. Campsites are very clean and a good size. Electric hookup was the standard 15, 30 & 50 amp breaker box. The park is very large and meandering with the beach very far from most campsites, as is the boat launch. We did have one bear tick while at the park. It was caught before digging in. The main park restrooms have recently been redone and are very nice. The kids' play area is so new that the ground hasn't seeded out yet. The only negative is the almost complete lack of cellular signal on the northwest side of the park. Signal is strongest by the beach and boat landing, but there are no campsites close to that. If you have a cell phone booster, you may get a good signal. There is a lot to do in the area, including golf, shopping in Chippewa, super clubs, wineries such as Autumn Harvest, berry picking at Connell's. There are not a lot of walking trails as you'd see at other state parks, but it's a very nice park.

As a non-resident, I found it pretty pricey with all the fees and parking costs.

We stayed at site 19. It was a good size, quiet, just a couple sites down from the vault toilets (which were very clean), and right next to a water spout. I noticed a lot of large, dead branches hanging which worried me but the site was mostly flat (aside from a couple large tree roots my toddler kept tripping over) so lots of space to put a tent to avoid being directly under the branches. The showers looked nice though I did not use them. The playground was pretty small but clean. The beach had a big area to lay towels. Overall, I enjoyed staying here and visiting Chippewa Falls. I will definitely be coming back to this state park!
Also, barely any bugs when we went at the end of May and we saw no ticks!!

The park is quiet, well kept and a nice spot surrounded by woods. It was an enjoyable stay. There is a nice amount of space between campsites. The outer ring allows your camper to tuck under trees and provides nice shade. The shower facilities were very clean. The campground is between the Zumbro river and the native animal zoo. All of it is really in great shape and an interesting place to explore.

Beautiful park, we traveled over a hundred miles to check out their (Bring Fido) dog beach. Save you gas..... its about a single lane highway wide, in amongst weeds and bushes. Amazing group camping spot, ours had electricity and a shelter, the ground was all slanted, but we made it work. There is plenty of shade and breeze. Wish there were flush bathrooms and showers by the group sites, but oh well, the showeres were well maintained and quite up to date. The sky was gorgeous plenty of space to stargaze. The "swimming" is meh as the water seems to have a bronze color (got out after we realized someone passed away in the water months prior, though). Also not really a beach but a side of a river area, but clean as it could be regardless.
