There is an area along the beach further down (toward Folkestone) which I think is a nudist beach - we didn’t go as far 🙈 but overall, it was such a lovely place for a quick walk with beautiful views. Samphire Hoe is part of the Geo Park together with the white cliffs of Calais in France. We had binoculars with us, so we saw those white cliffs across the English Channel. We also spotted some butterflies and birds like cormorants and probably some starlings.

We didn't have much time before our parking ran out but decided to take a quick look as it was free to enter. It's spread over several levels which can be accessed by stairs or lift. The bronze aged boat is a true marvel and well preserved. Lots of vintage things set about and well displayed. Place is run by volunteers all of which were friendly and nice as well as being passionate. Cafe was accommodating for gluten free and didn't make a fuss so that was also a nice touch. Some exhibits could do with a slight revamp to bring in the fresh blood but despite that it was still a cracking little museum worthy of going to visit. The main reason was to see the wartime tunnels. The friendly helpful staff at the admissions desk saw my Mum was using a walking stick and asked if we needed transport. There is a fairly steep slope from the entrance to the tunnels. They ordered a mobility bus to pick us up. This was so kind and meant my Mum could enjoy the tunnels without being tired out before she started. We had quite a long wait outside (about 40 mins) before our tour started. It was very interesting with lots to see. There is a fair amount of walking and some uneven floors, but we didn't feel rushed. At the end of the tour a member of staff showed us where to wait for the bus to take us back to our car. There is plenty of free parking on several different levels. The staff were very knowledgeable and so helpful, we didn't know we could get transport, the site is quite extensive and without the bus it would have been a very tiring day and we probably wouldn't have been able to see as much as we did. Photos and videos are not allowed inside the tunnels.

Being panicked to find a large group a place to stay, these folks took care of us. They helped store our luggage for an early arrival ( for a charge) and made sure we had reliable transportation to the pier the next day. The location was very convenient to get to the Dover Castle, the Cliffs of Dover, and the cruise ship pier. However that was just the surfaces, beneath it the duvet smelt of foul body odour (as pointed out by my seven-year-old who didn't sleep all night) The beds creaked loudly on every slight movement, and my husband had to complain twice about the music, which they fortunately did turn down around... 1am. We couldn't close the door overnight, it was ajar slightly with a chair propped in front- if we closed the door we would have been locked in (we had to break out upon arrival.) The bathroom door didn't close, so all the family had to take it in turns to close it with another chair (thank God for the chairs) Bathroom floors were dirty, no towels- which in fairness we wouldn't have used anyway, but loo roll?
