Produce was fresh and cooked well. Scallops were tender and cooked perfectly fine. Everything else was just fine, probably because my pallet isn't sofistivated enough and I prefer more punchy flavours. :D Service could be better. I had the feeling that I was more smiley and positive than the server. Desperately wanted to get some vinegar with chips, but the server was nowhere to be seen. The table we sat at was shakey. Loved the simplistic design and the open kitchen. The only wet facility I could find was a disabled toilet at the back entrance, where deliveries are received from. We were there on a day trip on a blistering day in summer. We were in the mood for a seafood lunch and decided to go to Webbe's which had decent reviews. I had a bottled Cider and my friend had the Prosecco. We decided to have a dish each from the Mains section of the menu. We also ordered a side of Homemade Bread which came with Kentish rapeseed oil. I had the Steamed Panaché of Fish which was a melange of small pieces of fish like Plaice, Salmon, Cod, Mullet, Gurnard and Huss, Prawns and Mussels with Spinach and bits of Potatoes and Carrots in a Saffron Sauce. The plate was flavourful but a bit bland. The taste improved dramatically with the addition of some freshly ground pepper and salt. My friend had the Grilled Hake Fillet. The fish was perfectly grilled and was accompanied with bits of grilled Chorizo, Potatoes and Tomatoes in a Thyme Sauce. The dish was quite exceptional and we loved it! On the whole the meal was quite satisfying and Webbe's is worth a look-in if you ever visit this part of the world and are fond of seafood .

Having made a reservation at mid noon there weren’t too many people when we arrived, the seatings were comfortable being at good distance to each other too. Ordered 6 Maldon rock oysters to start with and they were really fresh, tender without being overly salty. For mains we had the grilled monkfish from the seasonal special menu, steamed panache with a good selection of seafood (very good value for money too!) and the Rye fish stew which was my favourite during my meal. The soup was filling and flavourful filled with mussels, shrimps, fish and potatoes - served with croutons, Parmesan cheese and rouille sauce. Though the service was slightly on the slower side it was a lovely meal afterall and perfect to stop by after arriving to Rye on the train before heading out to town centre.

I think I chose well with the scallops to start which was actually a larger portion than I was expecting and then the venison which was absolutely delicious. Lunch and, the next day brunch. Welcome, very nice and friendly. Menu, Mexican twists on many dishes. Food, excellent flavour bombs. Lunch - We shared the pulled pork tacos, home made pickles, guacamole, etc, just excellent, 3 of them, stuffed full. Really good. Brunch, we had hallumi, poached egg and corn fritter w/ Guacamole, poached eggs, chorizo and Chipotle mayo. Both fresh, delicious full of flavour and fulfilling. Also we had great coffees. Highly recommended. Sadly we did not stay here so no comment in accomodation.

My partner, young child (slightly over 18months), and I visited in late July 2025 for an early dinner. On entering we found the venue well laid out and clean, and were greeted with a genuine and friendly welcome. Orders were taken quickly, but not rushed, with the drinks subsequently arriving very shortly after. We found this a very welcome change to most venues, as it allowed us to help with cutting up and allowing it to cool a bit before the adult meals arrived (we find it very inconvenient when the child’s portion arrives piping hot at the same time as adult portions). We were staying in the Crow Nest room as it was the best room to accommodate a family of four and it was fabulous! We really enjoyed everything, the food the drinks the room. To be noted we did a three weeks trip in the UK and stayed in many places, but this hotel (in fact it not a hotel it is a real Inn), dating back from 15th century is the only one my family remembers and will continue discussing for the next few years I am sure. From start to finish Lisa and the team took the stress out of our DIY wedding. A tasting was included, allowing us to be involved in the overall design of the boards - a really nice and personal touch! On the week of the wedding the team checked in and made sure we were happy and were so responsive and accommodating to any last minute questions or requests! On the day of the wedding the team arrived early, set up effortlessly and made the tables, welcome drinks table and whole venue look better than we could have dreamed. As for the food, the grazing boards looked INCREDIBLE on the day and they were so beautifully presented with such attention to detail. Not only that, but everything was DELICIOUS! All our guests were raving about the food & attentive staff. Rye itself is wonderful and homely too. On the contrary the service was sub par. Very slow wait for only a two person meal. Whilst the waiter’s were kind the wait is a big let down. We sampled some of the bar food and were not disappointed – the cheese and pickle roll was delicious, and the large pork pie was absolutely spot on. We had booked one of the cottages. It was wonderful!!! The biggest most comfy bed you will ever see! The shower and all amenities were first class. Off the main road so was extremely quiet too. Usually stay in central Rye but decided to give The Kings Head Inn a try after having lunch there on a previous visit. What a find, arrived on time 3pm to check in but was made so welcome in the bar we had a few drinks on a really comfy sofa, followed by a Sunday Roast. The food was delicious, the service was efficient and very friendly. Our whippet, Ava was made super welcome too! We eventually went to our room (one of the one- bed cottages across the courtyard, ample parking) which was very clean and welcoming. Fresh white bedding on a comfortable bed, fluffy towels. Breakfast.. full breakfast menu, perfect poached eggs, really well cooked. Eggs Benedict and a Full English for us! Delicious. Walking in to Rye (to top end of high street) is absolutely doable.. downhill about 15 plus mins maybe.. way back is uphill so not for the faint hearted like us. Will absolutely be staying at KHI for our Camber Beach/Rye visits in the future. Recommend it!

Food thrown together to mimic prawn cocktails was diabolical and tasted bland and looked terrible. With hindsight we should have refused to pay the bill entirely. The chef made several trips to the bar whilst we were eating to fetch beer for himself that he was drinking en route to the kitchen! We had 3 adults, 3 children and a baby eating here. The children had the kids breakfast and the fish fingers and chips. We tried pretty much everything from the mains and every single thing was horrid. Tartiflette had just some cream and cheese sprinkled on top which was burnt, and potatoes undercooked. It had become a clump of gooey mess and I barely touched it other than the veggies (which also weren’t grilled as described on the menu). The woman cooking the food was also rude and bossy to the waiter who was the only saving grace. The poor guy was literally on his own running around to serve everyone and super nice to us. The hotel is nicely decorated with a lovely outdoor patio at the front. There’s a nice dining room for Breakfast. The cooked breakfast was excellent and there was a decent selection for the continental style if that’s more your thing. Our room good for the price. It was big with welcoming decor. The bed was very comfy and the bathroom was good if a little small in comparison to the room, with a ‘step in bath’ shower. There’s no elevator at the property but there are a few rooms on the ground floor if you have accessibility requirements. The hotel looks nice in the pictures but reality is everything is very run down and unclean. We paid for a nice room which was advertised as having a balcony. The balcony door was broken so it was impossible to go outside. The staff knew the door was broken and didn’t seem to care. The bathroom was run down and dirty with broken floor tiles. The mirror in the room was broken. There was also some mould in places. Staff were less than helpful. The only positive thing was there’s off street parking round the back which is unusual for Rye. What they didn’t tell you is it’ll cost you £8/day to use the car park. You’d get a much better experience staying at a Travelodge. Unbelievably overpriced for what you actually get. Avoid!

She found The Windmill and we were immensely impressed with the whole B&B. It is quaint and relaxing, and so close to the station. It has a little honesty bar, great breakfast and a warm welcome. Facilities are great, everything felt nice and clean, and it has ample parking for the amount of guests it welcomes. The sleigh bed was so comfortably and the suite was at a perfect temperature though out the nights. Our hosts also explained the honesty bar and its great selection of wines,spirits and beers and of course soft drinks, we chose 08:30 for breakfast and were fortunate to have the same table each morning and always greeted and the breakfast menu has a small but great selection of options and sourced locally where possible and prepared and cooked to order to perfection and nothing was to much trouble for our hosts and there staff and not forgetting the windmill cat ( obviously the overall boss ) making appearances to check things were being done correctly. Again thank you , you did not disappoint a truely magical stay .

It was amazing, we couldn’t have wanted more. The hosts are very friendly and attentive, even though we arrived later than expected. We stayed in room 4 on the ground floor and it was very comfortable and had a beautiful view of the river, it is close to the train station but it’s not loud and not many trains come by anyways. Rye itself is gorgeous and the hosts give you great recommendations of where to go if you aren’t familiar with the area which was very helpful for us. The breakfast is amazing, if I could rate it higher on here I would, my partner is quite fussy but also had no complaints and the poached eggs were perfect both mornings along with the mushrooms. And parking was amazing, they make sure there is a space ready for you upon arrival. We can’t wait to return at some point in the future!

Although this had great reviews, my expectations were well exceeded as it is hard to appreciate how good this is until you have stayed here. From the welcoming staff, the delicious and fabulous breakfast it is just great. The hotel is very old as many of the buildings in Rye but beautifully furnished in a traditional way. it is very quaint and quirky. We loved it all. There is a private cr park close by which is so useful.The owners Chris and Doris were so welcoming having taken over early 25 after being past guests. Very highly recommended and if we return to Rye it will be to stay here again. Thank you to the owners and all the staff for lovely stay. PS I would just add if you cannot manage stairs it is not for you as there is no lift.

Very welcoming. We had a border collie so we were seated down one side outside of the main area which is fair enough. They brought a bowl of water for Cooper and a biscuit so all good. I have seen some reviews where they have said they were not welcoming and friendly and overpriced but this was the opposite of our experience. The food was very good, every course. Fish and chips, grilled king prawns, burger, crumble, sticky toffee and the wine was reasonably priced. The only item that I would consider expensive was the fish and chips. £21 maybe on the slightly high side. 2 people, 3 courses, apint and a bottle of dry white just over £130 is not bad at all. Highly recommended especially if you have a dog and we will be back soon. There is a no children under 5 policy which alienates half the visitors to Camber but I do sort of understand why. The hosts are super friendly and welcoming which is not always easy when you are putting in the hours it takes to run a busy pub with great food during the busiest summer holidays.

The main waiter (who I believe might be the owner too) seems like an extremely friendly man until you have a complaint, at which point he becomes very defensive and rude. We ordered a jacket potato with chilli con carne and cheese, however when it came it was just tomato sauce with some onion and peppers in and cheese on top. At first I thought it was veggie chilli con carne but it was weird that it didn’t say anything on the menu, especially when other vegetarian menu items were labelled as such. We asked the waiter to come over and asked him if this was a veggie chilli con carne because there is no meat in, yet it is being priced on the menu higher than a lot of other meat items. He said there is beef in it, to which we replied that there isn’t. He kept insisting there was meat and when we kept insisting there wasn’t, he said he would show us the jar. He then came out of the kitchen and produced a Dolmio’s chilli con carne sauce jar and said see it says chill con carne. I honestly thought it was a joke at that point, and said that you are meant to add beef to the sauce, like it says clearly on the jar, and that this sauce is just tomato. I really felt like I was getting absolutely no where with the conversation as he kept insisting there was meat in the sauce, despite the jar having a big veggie symbol on it and it saying in the instructions to add beef. Eventually, he conceded that there was no meat in the jar and very sarcastically said “Okay then what would you like me to do about it? Go to the butchers and get you some meat?” I was honestly lost for words at how rude he was being, after basically admitting that what he had served and what we had paid for was not chill con carne. He then added “99.9% of customers are happy with this” which I find highly doubtful having skim read a handful of the other google reviews, before turning his back on us and walking away. Whatever you do in Rye, make sure to stay clear of Cafe Zara. Even a meal deal would be miles better than paying £8 for a potato with some tomato sauce on.

A good selection of items and the bacon was amazing. Only downside, I couldn’t swap out my mushrooms but this appears to be generally the case these days no matter where you go. A good choice if visiting or escaping the packed smalls pubs in nearby Rye

We weren’t disappointed. Lunch was served very quickly and was really good quality tasty food and very generous portions. We enjoyed it so much we went back twice for breakfast. Mega breakfast is exactly that and cooked really well. The omelettes are really good and again very generously portioned. Staff are really friendly and the venue is very tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. Prices are also very reasonable.
