Amazing location walking distance from the lake, very confortable and extremely clean huts in the middle of a very nice jungle. Everything was perfectly arranged for us. Dinesh is a very good host, an excellent proffesional. He helped us with everything we needed. This is a family business that took care of us with their hearts. You could tell from the entrance. Breakfast was included and it was the most delicious and complete meal we have tried in Sri Lanka so far. 100% recommeded as it is an absolute gem in Sri Lanka.

This is a lovely place to stay, surrounded by nature and giving you a feeling of being in a forest...the host Dinesh is such an amazing person. Once you get to know him and his love for preservation, nature, local produce, and the wildlife it makes sense of the hotel setting. The accommodation was spotless, hot water, a/c everything above expectations including the warm welcome. Dinesh and his family really look after their guests and are eager to ensure you have a great time in Sigiriya. We had such a delicious Sri Lankan meal made from fresh seasonal vegetables prepared by his family - would definitely recommend. I don't think we had any Sri Lankan food as good anywhere else after. Anyone thinking of booking this accommodation should do so without hesitation and won't regret.

Greeted with a delicious fresh juice and generously given an upgrade to an available room. Dinesh helped to organise transport for us, constantly checked in to see we had everything we needed and suggested things for us to do. The food was abundant and absolutely delicious and the lovely touch of a complimentary fresh lime juice bought to the room in the evening. The room was clean and comfortable enough with an especially inviting patio. What made this place, though, was the family running it. Our room was gorgeous (insane value for money). Double four poster bed with mosquito net, nice table and chairs, hot shower with good pressure, lovely big windows and a little patio area to hang out and look at the beautiful garden. After reading reviews, I messaged Nilathe and asked if we'd be able to do an elephant safari at Minneriya that afternoon. He explained the season was better suited to Huluru at the moment and we were happy to be guided by him. We arrived later than expected but he was so flexible for us and took us as soon as we were ready in a super nice and comfy jeep (he also quoted us the lowest price for safari that we'd heard of - 18,000 for 2pax). We asked to stop for a snack along the way and he dropped us at an unreal (and super clean) street food joint. We had the BEST safari. He tried to avoid the massive jeep crowds and we came across a 2 week old baby elephant with 4 females meters from our car and not a single other jeep around (in addition to many other elephant sightings - this one was just particularly special). It was actually raining when we were there but my partner and I preferred to keep the roof open. Nilathe provided us with an umbrella so we could still stand and stay a little drier! He is just a LOVELY man. We walked from the acccomodation to both Sigiriya Rock and Pidurangala Rock on separate mornings (you could easily get a short tuk-tuk if you preferred). Just down the street from Sigiriya is Kaluwara Restaurant, run by Ishy. We had our favourite meal in all of Sri Lanka here and when we saw he runs cooking classes signed up immediately for the following morning. Highly recommend you do this too if you enjoy food! (He also had some vaccinated puppies and a giant squirrel he was nursing when we were there). OMG and the breakfast was unbelievable - a little different each morning but usually with hoppers, eggs, fruit, dessert pancakes etc etc etc.

It's a 10 minute walk to a handful of local restaurants. Though language was an issue, we persevered and they provided home-cooked breakfasts and curry dinners, even icecream. The actual villa was expertly finished and decorated. The only downside is that they are 1km from the msin road and so no roaming the 'shops' No probs... there eas only a dozen convenience shop fronts/ restaurants. The son picked up up in his nice new Toyota Prius as we walked from local bus stop. He also delivered us to the junction bus stop and waited till we were safely aboard the local bus. But then his local mate came along in his van and we were chauffered to out Trinco hotel for one third the usual fee. So with walking trips to the local lake, watching automated rice harvesting and greeting every kid in every house slong the way, we had a memorable and very pleasant 2-night stay at Sigiri Lion Villas.

I had two days walking, one day scooter and it is completely fine. You can also get a tuktuk from main road to house for reasonable price after sunset. At an amazing jungle area like this, you don't wanna stay in busy main road. This house gives you a wonderful serene jungle experience. I will for sure again stay here when i am back in sigiriya.

It is next to the jungle where wild elephants roam (the owner runs safaris). It is also behind a beautiful buddhist temple with a huge statue. The place itself is unique because it has a roof that slopes on all sides to a hole in the middle. This has a pool in the middle and tree growing up out of it. It's a bit like a courtyard. Around this square are the rooms, with bathrooms. Again, if you are a traveller that likes to have a local experience rather than spend it in western style hotels, then the simplicity of the place will not trouble you. The owner is one of the friendliest, interesting people you'll meet and he has a spot on understanding of tourists' tastes. The main feature is the nice balcony. There is also a good breakfast served by the wife who is nice. The room was as described, the bathroom smells a little bit but overall is fine. There were some small frogs in the bathroom and in general you have to be okay with some wildlife, bugs etc. You can’t really go out past 9/10pm due to the risk of wild elephants (although I think that’s common around sigiriya). There’s no WiFi available. We arranged a tuktuk with the owner (Ratne) from Habarana and agreed a set price however we were then charged an extra 300 as “waiting time” as the train was delayed slightly, although first he said it was for petrol. We arranged another tuktuk to sigiriya rock for sunrise however we found out that this price was more expensive than local tuktuk. He was a bit confrontational over payment as he said to pay driver the next morning and although we were here till 12 he complained the driver came twice to get money and we weren’t here. He also made a point that he apparently doesn’t get any commission and we could go get a public tuktuk if we wanted to but it’d be “more expensive”, which wasn’t the case actually. If you want a tuktuk I’d just ask someone on the main road you’d get a better price and less hassle.
