The furniture and decor are extremely dated and the entire place looked like it hadn't been properly maintained in years. My daughter booked a studio apartment as a special treat for our last night in NSW. 5 star it is definitely not. While our room was spacious, the furniture and soft furnishings are dated. We spent a small fortune to splurge on this hotel for 2 nights and we left disappointed. The rooms are dated, the bath was tiny to the point a couples bath was a horrible experience, and the service was meh. It turns out there were a lot of renovations going on whilst we were there. The only notification we had of this going on was a small paragraph AFTER we booked that exciting works were underway and a small number of rooms were effected. Well turns out we didn't have access to the health centre, nor to play billiards, Darleys restaurant (which is where we planned to spend our 10yr anniversary dinner) and when we went to book into the day spa we were booked into another hotel 18mins away because suprise, that was also closed. No complimentary taxi was provided to us either to make the journey. Disgusting. Some other people staying there complained they were woken by drilling above their room at 7.30am as well! There was duck poo all around the outdoor pool and no deck chairs around to relax, just uncomfortable seats. The location of Lilianfels however is amazing and close to some beautiful, easy walks with incredible views. Will we go back? To Katoomba yes, but not Lilianfels based on this experience.

We came here for our honeymoon and wish we had stayed in the city longer, where we had a true five star experience. We had a room with a private bathroom located a short walk down the hall. Rooms were warm and beds comfy. We enjoyed some lovely cocktails that came with friendly service and opted to have dinner at the Old Bank. Meals were nicely portioned and a cut above the usual pub grub. The only slight disappointment of the evening was how early everything closed, bars were shut at 8.30. This was a week night though so hopefully they are open later for the weekend crowd. There were unseasoned congealed scrambled eggs, burnt bacon, commercial hash browns and canned baked beans, plus the usual continental stuff. I was advised the key will be in the room (contactless check-in), which was amazing. Everything turned down, when I arrived and the room smelt of mould very think smell which is very concerning. I am unsure how they have not picked this up. I bought my own wipes and no matter how much I tried the room still reached. The air freshener I requested still did not help. Only to find out when I searched the room “2 bedroom suite” it had mould everywhere, which is why the smell was so thick in the air. I literally refused to eat in this room, though my sisters did I couldn’t when they left. I slept in the room due to the excessive smell within the lounge area. I am someone who has an immune system concerns, I have left this place unwell and no matter how much I tired to resolve this issue with the place, sending emails on the day I arrived they refused to cooperate till this day. This place looks nice but when I arrived it looked very old. I would not recommend it due to the safety concerns to peoples health. You don’t want to leave this place unwell like I did.

It is difficult to carry bags up the narrow staircase but I was offered help by the staff – there is no lift. The carpeted floor in the room is very creaky which fits with the old world heritage atmosphere but may be a negative for some. The bathroom was good except for the lack of pressure in the shower and it is very difficult to get the temperature right as there is a huge delay between adjusting the tap and the temperature changing – persevere and you’ll get it in the end after being frozen then scalded several times. The king bed was super comfy and the linen and pillows excellent. The gourmet cookies on the bed were much appreciated as were the additional biscuits in the tea & coffee supplies – something seldom seen these days. Overall - loved the big spacious room. Bar – Cocktail list is limited and the barman was unable to make requested cocktails because of a lack of ingredients. You used to be able to order any cocktail here but management has restricted this now so you need to choose from a half dozen “signature cocktails”. The few cocktails you can get were delicious though (but slightly expensive at $25 for simple mixtures) Breakfast – You used to get a mimosa here to start but not anymore – another sign management seems to be cost cutting. The once great continental breakfast has been severely diminished with absolutely no fruit & berries – fresh or stewed, no yoghurt and the croissants ran out at 8:45am on a Friday morning. The a la cart "hot breakfast" was superb though and made up for the meagre continental offering – but some tommy sauce either in a bottle or single serves wouldn’t go astray..

Location on a hill gives a great view of the valley, and its short walk out of town ensured a quiet stay. Our room had no mountain view, but did have a large room with private gas fireplace and its own spa bath. Bed was comfortable and the aircon provided warmth despite the outside cold. We tried lunch in the fine dining room. The food was excellent and the price not out of line with the cuisine. The lounge bar features 1 gas and 2 wood fireplaces.
