The accomodation and meal were faultless. We had one of the bedroom suites and it was spacious and comfortable. The food was very well planned and executed across all the dishes we tried. Fantastic flavours and presentation. The service was helpful and good humored. Even the breakfast the next morning was a step up from what might have been expected. The latest meal (for four of us) was excellent, all of us had different dishes and all were good. The service is attentive but sensible. I wish I had photographed our mains which were the chicken curry (best pub curry I’ve ever had) and the Moroccan lamb belly which was also insanely good. We had the beef brisket croquettes to start which were served with dill pickles and a jalapeño mayo (pictured). Having eaten at many pubs in the area, it’s pretty unmatched. One thing I would say I would love the pub to have a more traditional look with the decor. There’s nothing better than a pub with exceptional food which feels authentically old and traditional. Chose this place based on reviews of the food. On arrival there was dedicated parking for guests, which was a good start. We were shown to our room promptly. The room was very spacious and well appointed. The free decanter of sherry was a nice touch. However, the room wasn't very warm. I pointed this out to the member of staff who then sorted this out. However, by late afternoon the heating had gone off. It was a dull, rainy October day so we weren't exactly comfortable. We dined in the restaurant on both nights and the food was exceptional, high end restaurant quality. However, the same can't be said for breakfast. My wife and I do these trips fairly regularly and I have never been served a breakfast with so much salt. I did point this out and was offered a replacement but who wants to wait around for breakfast! Also, very unusual these days that no set veggie option on the breakfast menu. No heating came on in the morning but came on after I complained only to go off again late afternoon, not great. The WiFi was slow and we kept losing signal making it difficult to stream films. On a positive note, apart from the temperature issue the hotel is vey well appointed and comfortably with a welcoming log fire, real ales a available and friendly and efficient staff.

Some of the kitchen team need to remember that they work in an open kitchen and that customers can see them and (most apparent for this visit) that they can also hear them. Calamari starter was lovely and they have made it their own. Rib-eye steak lacked wow factor on first look and was backed up but being over cooked- medium well but was ordered medium rare 😔 Slaw was tasty but mushroom rubbery. Dessert was lovely and they did their best the make it a slightly bigger portion as we were sharing and to apologise for what was overheard in the kitchen. The starters calamari, white bait and scallops were very tasty, well cooked and seasoned. The roasted supreme chicken fulfilled all high expectations set by the name - very good. The waiters were polite. Naan bread was very nice, the mushroom rice can be better. Rogan Josh was really good. Prawn curry was just there, I wasn't impressed with it. Usually I’m not a huge fan of Indian, but it was 10:30pm and options were slimming. We walked in here and were welcomed by smiles, the place was empty so we chose our seats and experienced a very good service and some of the best Indian food we have eaten. We had the butter chicken and prawn masala. Just fantastic. Seriously though, the waiter couldn’t have been more perfect with his service. I travel all over the world and go to such a variety of restaurants and experience so much, I was a chef in the past and a food taster for a huge concierge company. It did not disappoint, staff were really welcoming and friendly, we had our 3 bullies with us and they arranged a great table for us so they could get comfy and not be in the way. Jail Ale in particular was very good. Food was absolutely delicious and I would wholly recommend the steak and stilton pie. Dessert was also really very good. Decent sized portions all round. A super cosy little pub, and the food was fantastic, as big foodies, a lot of pubs have brought in dishes - this little find was very different - we had amazing food cooked by a brilliant CHEF cooked, I had the pork chop and all I can say is WOW, perfectly cooked, tasty and moist, the wife had the pork belly equally as tasty. Be warned there isn't any parking so you will need to try and either park on the road or in a nearby carpark. I had some of the best cocktails here, they were really excellent. All the servers are incredibly polite and efficient. The food was really good on the whole. Most dishes were definitely 5 stars. The reason for my lower rating is because of the plant based halloumi dish, I was excited to try it as I haven't yet had plant based halloumi. I was a little disappointed to find that it wasn't anything like halloumi. It was more like a cheddar/blue cheese tasting soft cheese filling in the panko. I wouldn't market it as halloumi as it doesn't represent it at all. On the other hand, the pork belly, fries, patatas bravas and blackened salmon were really excellent and I wouldn't be able to fault them! I do recommend the restaurant, just not that one dish if you expect it to be like halloumi.

Lack of food was the issue. Having booked a table, stating it was for Sunday roast, we arrived, greeted by a stoney faced waitress, to be told there were no roasts. An apology was offered, and told food was available but only fish and chips, pizza or a sandwich, not something we had in mind when making a booking at pre 11am. Shame, as normally both the food and service are great. Maybe a bad day for them but defo made it one for us. My boyfriend’s favourite was the scotch egg (which was a close second for me), and my favourite was definitely the steak! The pub/hotel nestles just below the most fantastic Dartmoor hills and scenery and you can be on the moor just a two minute walk away. I got a giant steak pasty which came with salad on the side and coleslaw, my mum for a baked potato which also came with salad. The prices were reasonable for a sit down meal. Jacket potatoes and wraps are a very generous size so offer good value but the name-sake steak pasty wasn't as good as others I've had. The wedges (that come at a separate cost) have got a bit of a kick to them and the tea cups are incredibly shallow which looks cute but not great if you're thirsty. It wasn't especially busy but our order did take a while to appear. Staff were friendly and helpful. On the whole though, I wouldn't be in a rush to go there again.

So upon arrival the front of house staff seemed a little abrupt and weren’t very informative with the check in. Plenty of covered seating outside to enjoy your meal. The attached farm shop was well stocked with local and independent products and also serves hot drinks and food for travellers passing through. For my fellow wheeled adventurers there is a ramp into the Inn and the shop is flat though the aisles are a little narrow for a chair. I used a walking frame and hitched the seat up to squeeze through without an issue. The owner also offered to move things to make it easier but it really wasn't necessary in my case. The toilets are located outside and kindly left open even when the Inn is closed. There is a disabled toilet accessible with a radar key. We couldn't try the food from the Inn on this visit but we've saved this place in our factories to stop by on our next South West adventure.

When we arrived earlier than planned, there was a lovely slightly older lady on the reception desk. We asked if we could park our car in the hotel car park early, the lady was lovely and said it was absolutely fine and took our registration plate number to link it to us as guests using the hotel. I will add now that the gates with the cars inside are locked at midnight, which I think is brilliant. We arrived back after walking around tavistock for a while and checked into our rooms. We were expecting to have baths in our rooms, especially as we paid over £150 each. Unfortunately, we both had walk-in showers. The rooms themselves were very small in one of our rooms you couldn't open the built-in wardrobe as there were chairs in the way, which were bulky to move and were in the way once you did move them. As expected, there were complimentary tea and coffee sachets, brown and white sugar, and sweetener, however, having stayed at many other hotels of a similar and cheaper prices I would have expected a nesperesso machine or similar - especially given the bedfords reputation. The bed was comfortable, and the room was clean. A little before 5am with my mum and I (in different rooms) were awoken by what sounded like a horse running around this went on for a good half hour and then it sounded like someone was banging on the wall or door up there. It proceeded to be noisy, so I just got out of bed. Missing out on my lay in and relaxation, which is a reason we booked having children at home, 2 of which have additional needs and are quite noisy! The food, drink, and outside areas. The dinner was outstanding, and the desserts were absolutely incredible. The wine was lovely. I wish the cocktail was made from scratch and not a mixer, though. Breakfast was very fresh and well presented. Our waitress was absolutely lovely. I can't remember her name, but she wore braids on either side of her head and beautiful earrings. This lady is an absolute credit to the establishment. Outside, you have a front garden next to the road, which can get noisy, but it's a nice little seating area if you want to pop out quickly around the back of the hotel you have a walled garden which is over a little bridge with a river flowing beneath which is absolutely beautiful so quiet and peaceful. When it came to leaving, we were asked how our stay was by a slightly younger receptionist. I explained it was noisy with the people above banging around, and she really didn't seem to care and brushed it off pretty quickly, which was sad again given the bedford reputation. For the price tag I was certainly very disappointed, more so as we believed that The Hotel was the founder of the Scone many many decades ago ( it’s worth reading the history) However- the scones were very light and enjoyed by all. The clotted cream was presented in its shop shelf Tub, opposed to in an appropriate side dish . Overall satisfaction? It’s a firm NO . A Great Shame and we certainly couldn’t recommend the High Tea experience of The Bedford Hotel. I’m not sure the other couple on the table next to us were best impressed either .. as an anniversary gift from their daughter. Pretty substandard for such a grand looking Hotel .

My wife and I were exploring some sites in Eastern Cornwall. We visited the Royal Inn at the recommendation of our excellent Airbnb host, Kate, who listed this pub as her favorite. Booked a table tonight for a special occasion but the Royal Inn missed the mark in every way they possibly could. The chips were really good quality, I also had a plain sausage and fish cake which were also really good. They do take orders by phone as well and party orders can be delivered. We are currently here again in a lodge this time but the whole experience is very different. Overall the place is lovely, the setting is beautiful and generally the staff are friendly but there have just been lots of small things that haven’t been enjoyable. Today we were told the kids zone for our two young kids cost £25 per day. This isn’t a manned facility, it’s a room for kids to play in under parent supervision. For a hotel to cater for families and kids, I have no idea why they charge for it and it was free when we previously stayed. The lodge is very different to the luxury room we stayed in before. It is spacious but feels a bit sparse and not luxurious or homely. The oven pan was disgusting and could do with a new frying pan and didn’t have basics like salt. I understand if they want us to eat in the restaurant but booking it for the times we wanted in the evenings we were told there were no spaces. My wife and eldest son wanted a round of golf with an instructor and left two messages at reception for the golf shop to contact her to arrange the pro, but neither message was passed on and it became too late to get an instructor. And the continental breakfast for £20 per person was disappointing. Overall I’d say it’s a lovely place for a romantic couples weekend or you are out an about the entire time but for young families it wouldn’t be my choice again.

Families should head for the beautiful lodges, where they'll have plenty of space to noisily romp around without disturbing other guests — but still be able to use the hotel facilities. The kids were made to feel at home by the staff, with highlights being a ride on a golf buggy, meeting the chickens and ferrets, and watching the falconry display. The pool was good too, and it's a smart move to have clearly stayed hours when children are welcome. Cosy and spacious, a great location in Tavistock that is dog friendly and chilled. However, staff are clearly stressed when working at the bar, showing they are unable to deliver simple drinks. We will now continue to drive further out to get the service we have consistently had in other lounges. The food was excellent, as was the beer and wine. The prices were frankly un beatable! Where else can you get a proper dinner for two for around fifteen quid?! Nice old pub situated in old area of Plympton St. Maurice. Near an old castle ruins. They little place not to big with beer garden across the road. Reasonable selection of drinks but not to big. Park your car down the bottom next too the farm house. Husband and wife team who run it are lovely people and really good too chat to. make sure u take a bag with u too take your empty drinks home with you. cant wait to visit again. If there was anything i think they could add to the venue i think it would be seat cushions on seats and benches outside and or a comfy sofa area to relax in after the food.

This place is one of my favourites. The pizza is amazing, this atmosphere is relaxed and the staff are lovely. The dates are announced in advance and generally released on 1st of the month. The garlic bread with rosemary and mozzarella is stunning, I can never decide what to chose for main, but anything with hot honey is always a winner, and if you can't manage a dessert you have to try a hot chocolate. The serve a range of hot drinks and limited soft drinks, but you can bring a thing you want to drink as no extra cost. This place is a real experience and just makes me happy. It's not everyone's cup of tea (especially the walk back up to the car from the farm), but we've been coming for years and won't be stopping anytime soon!

Would absolutely recommend to everyone. When we arrived we were given a very warm welcome by Wendy who showed us around the beautiful gardens and to the very lovely rooms (we stayed in the Farmhouse). The walks around the farm and across the moors are beautiful and I would definitely recommend to anyone keen for a bit of an atmospheric explore across some farm and forest. Our dinner and breakfast were absolutely fantastic, we really enjoyed the communal dining element and watching the chefs (impressively calmly) at work. For one of our courses we had what we think is the best risotto either of us have ever had (truly). Thank you for such a gorgeous stay and particular thanks to Wendy for making us feel so welcome and looked after.

Part of me doesn’t want to write this review so I can keep the secret of Fowlescombe to myself! Through work I regularly stay in 5* boutique and unique hotels around the world, so Fowlescombe Farm had a lot to live up to. However this is honestly one of the best I’ve ever been to. We stayed for one night (totally unrelated to my work and just a weekend getaway) but truly could have stayed for two weeks. The team at Fowlescombe have created the perfect balance of style and luxury but with so much authenticity and modesty that not one part of it felt pretentious. We were made to feel at home the second we stepped through the door, and every single member of staff treated us like long time friends. They are all so knowledgeable and passionate about what they do that it’s hard not to come away inspired. I’m not sure I have the right words to describe the food; farm-to-table, cooked from the heart and prepared right in front of you in their open kitchen by some of the country’s top chefs. Everything we ate and drank was outstanding. We loved exploring the farm to see where our food came from; we collected fresh eggs from the hens and picked apples to feed the piglets. Outside of this we explored their walking trails and warmed up afterwards playing board games in front of the cozy fire. If you are reading this and debating any other well known ‘countryside-chic’ hotels in the Devon area, choose Fowlescombe. You will not regret it!

The food was to die for and we felt really looked after even meeting some lovely people whilst staying too. The service was notably really attentive without being at all invasive which is nearly impossible to find. We had the best and most relaxing weekend. The staff were amazing - everyone was so friendly it made us feel like we were staying in their own home. It was such an inspiring stay, everything was incredible, how welcoming are the people working there, the design of the spaces, food, art. The suite we booked was very generously upgraded with a bigger one, which came as a complete surprise and we are very touched by it, and that suite was outstanding. Every detail was thought about, from designer furniture, most comfy beds, delicious rare loose teas, to outstanding art. The dinner experience was immaculate, meals were seasonal, delicate, flavoursome and beautifully presented. Knowing that ingredients either coming from the farm or sourced locally is super nice. We travelled with our 2.5 years old and were a bit unsure at first how child-friendly it is, but as we arrived, we were instantly at ease as all staff were super welcoming and attentive - a massive thank you to the team! Space-wise, it’s a very convenient place to come with children. There is plenty of open space for play and exploration. As it was warm it was easy for us to hang out outside the rectory while having a delicious garden herbs tea or lunch and having our son running and playing nearby. Such a unique and inspiring place!
