It was full when we visited for a brunch today (Sunday) - I recommend booking ahead of time especially at weekend. You sit on a balcony looking into the harbourside. I think you can tell when a chef cares about his/her food when your scrambled eggs are light, and creamy and fluffy. I feel lucky to be staying a ten minute walk from here.

The drive here was a bit intimidating but it’s definitely worth it. The service is quick and speedy so can feel a bit rushed if not prepared. But we had time to enjoy each course. The drinks were really interesting so many options. We had a fig cocktail and a cherry pit spritz. Both were great. Loved the desserts as well. Love the ethos of “Live life on the veg”. The menu was so well thought out and everything paired so well together. The fig salad with pine nuts and feta was so refreshing and delicious. The padron peppers roulette was a good little addition. Hummus and sourdough bread with nigella seeds was an exciting start to the meal. Staff were super kind and friendly, they were very well organised, everything felt intentional and thought out. Really enjoyed it , would definitely recommend visiting for the whole experience. Such good value for the price.

They've obviously had to change things in the wake of COVID, so it isn't quite the same set up as their original vision, but it is still brilliant. Food is delicious. The staff couldn't be nicer. We only booked on the day and took a seat outdoors for the evening sitting. The location is lovely and the outdoor area was actually great. It’s not heated but they did explain this over the phone. You get blankets and it’s under cover. The service and food were fantastic. Everyone has the same menu (yes vegetarians are well catered for). The food was well presented, very tasty in a sharing format per table. This informal design adds to the experience. Some interesting soft drinks like shrub and homemade kombucha adorn the menu. Phenomenal food. Every plate brought out was delicious. Catered for GF needs and I didn't feel like I 'missed out ' on any course. Everyone is served at a similarish time, has the same food on sharing plates at each table and then a choice of puddings. Vegetables are the stars but lamb was also part of the menu. The food courses flowed seamlessly with perfect gaps to get drinks/let good settle. We loved that you didn't know the menu till you arrived - don't let this put you off. There was also a wonderful selection of drinks to try. I only hope we can one day visit again!

So so memorable, the food was absolutely delicious really focused on seasonal vegetables. The wait staff told us they only finalise the meals that morning once they have everything in from the deliveries. The scenery is lovely and the food was delicious, I had a pizza. Tim, our waiter was fantastic and couldn't have done more. Big selection of drinks, my pint was nice. Pub also has a shop for essentials which was a refreshing change. Useful for the locals. It's dog friendly, massive beer garden which was empty due to not great weather. Dropped 1 star for not having a dedicated smoking area which I would have used to stay away from non smokers. Had a memorable time here and would definitely go back.

She was absolutely amazing and have been wanting to see her in Devon for a long time so am thankful to the Old Inn for making this happen! Unfortunately, nowhere on the literature did it say that we would have to share a table with other diners. If I am completely honest, if we had known that, we wouldn't have booked it. We don't get much time to ourselves as it is, and after a long week at work, we just wanted to unwind together, not with other people. When I first mentioned this, we were told it was because they wanted to get as many people in for the event as possible and it was a sense of community. I appreciate the community vibes but again, it should have been mentioned. I also think getting as many people in to enjoy the event is fair, but it has to be comfortable. When we were seated, I could see that my partner was uncomfortable with the setup, so I went back up to the bar and explained how we felt. Kindly, we were moved to a table nearer the front with just two covers. It was awkward having to tell the other diners we were moving (the situation could have been avoided) but at least we were moved. Unfortunately, the table was extremely close to other people, so close that the diner on the side of my partner pretty much shared his chair as an arm rest! It was the best we were going to get so we just tried to make the most of it. We did end up moving back to another table nearer the back because the bingo and raffle was extremely loud (music was OK but maybe we are getting old!). Also - chairs are super uncomfortable - not meant to stay on them for 4 hours I guess. Food - In regard to the food - this was fantastic. We did wait over an hour for our food, and we weren't notified of the wait or that we would be eating while Amy was singing, but hey ho. The vegan options were brilliant and super tasty. No complaints about the quality and presentation. Drinks - all fine - aside from almost £7 for a bottled cider - appreciate the mark up in pubs but was a bit shocked by that. Also I specifically asked for oat milk in my coffee, and just as I was checking that the chocolate on top was vegan, the waitress realised it was cow's milk so quickly replaced it. This could have been much worse if I had actually had it but thankfully it was noticed! Again, the event was great. Not sure why Bingo was crammed in before it? Food was great. Service was pretty good too and it wasn't the waiters fault about what had happened. It is just such a shame we had the incident as mentioned because it could have been a much better experience.

Wait time was good. Highly recommend the cheese and onion Cornish Pasty with triple cooked chips and salad. Absolutely lovely. The man who runs the pub is lovely and knows his stuff. Lovely spacious room with very comfortable bed. Dinner was in the bar area and was delicious with great, friendly staff. Only downside is that it directly fronts onto a busy road so even at night it can't be called quiet but they do make this very clearwhen booking on their website. So upon arrival the front of house staff seemed a little abrupt and weren’t very informative with the check in. Her room was lovely, homey, with good facilities - really nice and cool kettle which she now wants 😂 however floor was rather slippery from residue left from cleaning products. She said she bumped cleaning lady who was super helpful, very friendly, sweet and nice! The bar tender was a little off, may have been a bad few days for him but lacked enthusiasm for his job. You can order from the a la carte menu or choose from the 80 dishes on the all-you-can-eat menu. We stayed here for two nights with our Labrador dog. A friendly welcoming hotel with exceptional customer service, exquisite food, beautifully appointed rooms and cosy lounge and bar. The service was really friendly and extremely helpful (eg I needed some emergency clothes washing when I arrived and they very happily and obligingly washed, dried and returned the clean clothes to our room within a few hours with no extra charge). The food and drinks were fantastic (better than I think their website shows). The hotel generally has tonnes of old world character whilst being in great condition. The staff are extremely friendly, the hotel has a cozy, country feel and is beautifully decorated (I believe the new owners have renovated it over the last year) and our room was comfortable and homely with the home made shortbread a nice touch. We ate in the restaurant the first night and our food was excellent, beautifully presented and delicious. There’s no parking for the hotel - we used the station road car park 30 metres down the road that charges £4.50 for 24 hours. It’s a great location for exploring Dartmoor and exploring further afield (we went to RHS Rosemoor which was 55 mins away and well worth the journey). Would definitely recommend.

We stayed as a treat to spend the weekend exploring Dartmoor. The Room: We had booked a superior twin room, expecting a certain standard of quality and comfort. This did not feel safe or in line with what we expected from a room described as “superior.” Attached photos. They offered us an extension cable but were quite dismissive overall and didn’t acknowledge the condition of the plug as an issue. When we expressed our concern, we were told it had already been checked by maintenance and deemed safe. While that may be the case from a technical standpoint, the presentation and condition were still poor and not acceptable, in our view, for a paying guest room. It almost made us feel we were a hindrance to even bring it up? The following morning, we spoke to a different staff member who was far more understanding. He was polite, apologetic, and clearly saw the issue from our perspective. He said he would be in touch and contact us. We also had the focaccia to start which was not cooked.. My friend had a very basic breakfast, tough bacon, chefs larder style hash brown and a crispy meat item pretending to be a black pudding. I have attached the egg which was undercooked, I had beans on toast , which I thought would be the safest option, but I added an egg which was snotty and undercooked. Unfortunately I didn't take photos of the dinner, but my friends broccoli with the pie was grey and sad. If you have a modicum of interest in well cooked food, this is not the place for you. I think the food itself overpriced but can get over, the service prior to complaining about the room was really good. How they have dealt with things since has been really rubbish. You wouldn't event get this in a Travelodge or premier inn. Don't trust the 5* reviews- go elsewhere for food and your stay!

I must admit when we drove into the car park, it wasn't a good view. However as soon as you step through the door what a delight. A lovely greeting as well entered, a lovely layout and a great choice of food. We ordered our drinks & food and we were not disappointed. This was a truly great traditional roast. I had the brisket of beef and it was melt in the mouth. Plenty of roast potatoes, a good range of vegetables & loads of gravy in a pouring jug. The chef even came out to talk to us and asked our thoughts. This was a truly great experience. Very highly recommended.

I have been coming for years and the food has always been delicious, had different specials, many a food festival and the best chips in the UK for sure! I love coming back every time, it is the perfect spot to see my friends who come back from various places in the Uk for the pub.

Staff accommodated our late check-in due to road traffic accident which we were very grateful for. Included breakfast is delicious and chef is super friendly. Only downside is that if other rooms have their tv’s on loudly, you can hear it straight through the walls which happened on a couple nights of our stay! Other than that lovely and peaceful.

Seasonal & high quality ingredients (many items home grown/local) and excellent flavours across everything we ordered. The aubergine and ricotta dish was the star of the menu (charred peaches/mackerel/ lamb ragu with pappardelle made in house also delicious) and the fig leaf ice cream had incredible flavour. I couldn’t fault any of the dishes. Good drinks menu especially non alcoholic options. Service was friendly and attentive and accommodating our dog (treats and water). On a hot day it was very (slightly uncomfortably) warm in the restaurant is my only minor negative but appreciate there isn’t much that can be done when you’re sitting near cooking food. Noted some other reviews stating poor portion size which I must say seems like a load of nonsense. I would 100% recommend and return. Thank you for a memorable meal 💛

We are currently here again in a lodge this time but the whole experience is very different. Today we were told the kids zone for our two young kids cost £25 per day. This isn’t a manned facility, it’s a room for kids to play in under parent supervision. For a hotel to cater for families and kids, I have no idea why they charge for it and it was free when we previously stayed. The lodge is very different to the luxury room we stayed in before. It is spacious but feels a bit sparse and not luxurious or homely. The oven pan was disgusting and could do with a new frying pan and didn’t have basics like salt. I understand if they want us to eat in the restaurant but booking it for the times we wanted in the evenings we were told there were no spaces. My wife and eldest son wanted a round of golf with an instructor and left two messages at reception for the golf shop to contact her to arrange the pro, but neither message was passed on and it became too late to get an instructor. And the continental breakfast for £20 per person was disappointing. Overall I’d say it’s a lovely place for a romantic couples weekend or you are out an about the entire time but for young families it wouldn’t be my choice again.

Food was delicious. We had pork rillettes and some bread to start. The sourdough was from the Briar bakery a few doors down and it was the perfect combination for the rillettes and giant pot of cornichons. We shared the half chicken, potaotes and gem lettuce and could not believe how tasty the potaotes were. The chicken was perfectly cook and the garlic and herb butter was the perfrct accompaniment. To finish everything off, we had the vanilla bavarois with blackcurrant and hazelnuts. The perfect ending to our meal. The staff are lovely, friendly and are more than happy to suggest alternatives for dietry restrictions as we overheard from another table with a dairy and gluten intolerance. Will definitely be back

The restaurant is in a very old building with so much character, but as someone else mentioned. The accoustics were terrible. It was very loud due to all the hard surfaces. The food was excellent, as was the beer and wine. The prices were frankly un beatable! Where else can you get a proper dinner for two for around fifteen quid?! It was low key and very friendly. Absolutely no airs and graces. Simple fair for friendly simple folk and I mean that in the best way. The bar is run separately from the food and B&B but that's ok. If you want a chocolate on your pillow at night then you're in the wrong place. If you want cordon bleu cookery then you're in the wrong place. We had dinner, I would recommend booking in advance as it can get busy. There are two areas, a cosy old fashioned pub and a more modern restaurant. Steak was mildly overdone (we ordered medium rate) but still tasty. The pizzas and desserts looked amazing going past, we were just too full. We’re likely to be back before we leave!

Nice old pub situated in old area of Plympton St. Maurice. Near an old castle ruins. They little place not to big with beer garden across the road. Reasonable selection of drinks but not to big. Could get filled pretty quick as not that big inside. Function room upstairs with pool table but quite small. And steps up are quite steep. Guess that's to for with olde style of pub. The buffet food G mtptpaw was really good and if your have a small bash I do highly recommend you have their food. It's not to hard to find as it's just off main road down into St. Maurice. If are near by pop in its worth it.

Staff are fabulous and Simon is ok. I was being flippant. In all honesty, The pub is lovely and it is down to Simon and the team. Makes abd veers are always well selected, ciders range from popular sparkling draught and bottles to an interesting range of stills. We booked a table for lunch as a half-way stop on a circular walk around Burrator reservoir and Sheepstor. We were greeted by friendly and efficient staff and allowed time to choose from a varied selection of menu and 'specials' board food options. Our group chose the steak & ale pie, fishcake, double smash burger and chicken fillet burger. The food arrived after a short wait and each was served with a good size portion of freshly made chips.
