The food here was wonderful, as always. I got the Mediterranean Chicken Salad and a cup of the French Onion Soup. My son got a Jalapeno Mac and Cheese special, and my husband got the Baked Eggs. The location I visited (of which they have many) was in The Dalles in the Columbia Gorge. The restaurant atmosphere was good. It was clean and cozy. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. I purchased a butter croissant and was told they are made daily. It was noonish so not the freshest. I ordered a croissant and was charged for the pastry and jam (didn't actually ask for jam but .75$ want enough to argue). It's a large pastry and they warmed it in a microwave then served in a paperbag to go. It's layers are evident and very flaky. Very good mouth feel until the greasy coating and bitter after taste. I'm not sure if it has been sitting too long or the mix was wrong to cause the greasy-ness but for the $4.50 French pastry it was not stellar. Then again the slight bitter taste in the back of the throat would probably be masked if chased with a swig of coffee but I didn't have any at the time. Maybe the butter was a bit old in this batch- not sure. Overall if you're not picky and don't know any better then if you eat one fast with a side of coffee it's probably doable. Come to think of it maybe that's why they push the jam? In fairness I should try them again for a different batch and much earlier in the day before judging too harshly. And having just returned from France may again be unfair.

The French onion soup was rich and hearty. The Monte Carlo was not good. There was one piece of turkey and ham (like you get cut at a local deli market) and the bread was not fresh. The Bourgogne needed salt and the risotto cakes were great on the outside but soupy on the inside. When we received the bill and realized that nothing was comped and no apology from a supervisor or manager we were surprised to say the least. We still left a 30% tip and thank them for everything because I didn’t want to make the server feel uncomfortable. We stopped at the Sinclair in town and they recommended Zim's as a great place to eat. We were not disappointed, we had the Smoked Turkey Bites and their fries. AMAZING! The manager must have a very odd restroom policy in place. In every other location I’ve been to, you ask the staff for the code & they give it to you. Then you can order your drink afterwards & not have to bring it into the restroom with you! At this location the staff state they do not have the code & insist the only one with a code is the cashier. My partner went up to cashier to order first so I could use the restroom. He placed his order & asked for the code, but the cashier refused to give it to him until the credit card was literally swiped. It was disgusting! After it was swiped & I got the magic code, the bathroom let me walk in on someone else as apparently the lock times out after a short time!! The poor guy I walked in on, he was in shock & humiliated! Then as I hurriedly used the other bathroom, I also had someone almost walk in on me as I couldn’t get the toilet paper to unravel, & I was in there for maybe two minutes?! While all this is happening my partner observes this poor older gentleman also trying to use the bathroom but he can’t get up fast enough from his chair to beat people trying to get the code, & then jumping back in bathroom line. I hate to think how he’d ever be able to use the bathroom fast enough without code timing out! It was utter chaos for a stupid bathroom & was ridiculously stressful. Seriously, it was beyond the worst experience I’ve had & I’ve been to Starbucks all over the US & in multiple other countries. This was taking the bathroom code to an extreme, both with trying to get in it in the first place & then with trying to beat an unknown timer while finally utilizing it. I have no idea how they can lawfully have such a short timer as there are people with disabilities who would need more time to use the restroom with an attendant. Plus for older people too! I was so disgusted with this experience I walked out without ordering as I had planned and my partner walked out & we went elsewhere for coffee for me & a bathroom for him. We make a point to stop at Starbucks as we travel, as they normally have a clean bathroom & the coffee is consistent. We will never stop here again & will go elsewhere. I never leave reviews like this but it really angered me that we were treated so poorly, & for what? For a stupid bathroom pass.
