This might be the best restaurant in Quintana Roo. Get the Pulpo Byblos (octopus) appetizer and lamb chops entre. FANTASTIC! The lamb chops are better than any I have ever had in the U.S. Finisterre is so good, we ate here two nights in a row. Had an absolutely 5 star dinner here for my hubby's birthday. JP created a memorable experience with exceptional service. Everything was scrumptious! The drinks were delightful: the kombucha, virgin cucumber margarita, coffee avocado smoothie. JP even brought us out a little cake for my husbands birthday! He really went the extra mile. The papaya salad was to die for.
We came back for lunch a few days later and had the opposite experience.We were the only table in the restaurant and still the waiter didn't check on us. I re ordered the but it was completely different - this time spicy and using different ingredients. The waiter asked we we didn't eat it and I told him. Apparently they changed the recipe. He still charged us in full for everything but he said we could come back for dinner that night and they'd remake it. They should have remade it then or removed it from the bill.
My suggestion: come for dinner when the skilled staff is serving

This is a good and reasonably-priced restaurant with cozy atmosphere. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We tried the famous garlic bread. It was okay. I am not a salad person but their salad was surprisingly good.

Absolute splendid experience eating here. The atmosphere is outside and laidback - a beautiful garden (albeit with a lot of mosquitos - cannot be helped, remember to spray repellent before going) but the food is so refined. I didn’t expect any less coming from Pujol alumni.
The menu is a mix of things - seafood, Mexican inspired, pastas. Our favourites were the crudo and pesca del día. The cocktails were also fabulous. Incredibly reasonably priced for what we got. Four dishes and dessert is the perfect amount for two people. Also loved the smoked eggplant butter and bread they provided. Stunning dinner.

We had a wonderful experience at Macario.
The service was good but had some miscommunication on what item was available and what wasn't. I originally ordered the steak but was informed after that it wasn't available. C'est la vie, no big deal. 7/10
What's good: the sashimi and garlic toast were 10/10. The garlic toast was on the house, came with a black butter spread, it was amazing. Sashimi was fresh, sauce was perfect.
We got the chicken and risotto. Both were cooked well, but the risotto was just slightly over seasoned for us. 6/10
We didn't take any photos of drinks, but 9/10.
Leaving off, I'm really happy that Bacalar has such amazing restaurant to offer. I'm very excited to visit again.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
The actual owner and part of the crew come from Pujol (CDMX). If you know the place, well you know what to expect.
So no cheap prices nor even typical Mexican cuisine, true, however your taste buds will thank you as soon as the starters hit your palate.
FOOD:
We tried the 2 tostadas and especially the vegetarian choice with cactus is something I would eat easily at home, once per week.
The risotto made out of Shitake mushrooms was simply great. Maybe the rice quality can be improved, but don't confuse the strong taste of the ingredients with your idea of it. Shitake have a unique savoir, so the risotto absorb it all.
The catch of the day was fine, but what kicks the plate is the super tasty sauce and the cauliflower's kneels.
I have finally tried the coconut cake which was simply delicious, not for the taste itself, but for the lightness of the whole dish, rarely achievable with coconut.
Finally, the cocktails based on mezcal and tequila, with a dash of ananas were the best we had around mexico.
STAFF:
Chefs and Alan (staff manager) are some of the best met in mexico. 10!
TO BE IMPROVED:
I would suggest to review the way the menu is presented. A plastic folder doesn't resonate with the place design and positioning.
I would also swap paper napkins with something more premium.
Last and not least, try to find a less smoky solutions for mosquitoes.

By far my fav restaurant in Bacalar, we came here for dinner and drinks and had the most wonderful time. Great service, someone was always there to make sure we had everything we need and the lovely staff made us feel right at home. We really had a lovely evening at this place, enjoyed the secluded location, the vibe and the food. The attention of the servers was great and they really explained the menu well. The copal was burning in the background, adding to the mystic experience. The chef's regards from the kitchen was this amazing aubergine puree, very, very delicious, like mexican baba ghanoush, but better. Dish of the day, ceviche was visually spectacular and fireworks of flavours in the mouth. We both ordered the same cocktail, Ciricote and it was probably the best cocktail I ever tasted in my life. My husband had the pork belly which he said was well balanced, juicy and meltingly tender, whilst I had the Fish of the day with the most amazing and lightweight cauliflower puree. The night would have been nothing short of spectacular, had the dessert not been two levels down from the savoury food. We felt sorry that we listened to the waiter and ordered panque con platano with very unmemorable ice cream. We have even mentioned to the owner who was not happy to hear it, said he'd send us another one instead and then disappeared. A bit strange end of otherwise perfect evening. So, go and enjoy, but skip the dessert!

The servers were amazing and attentive to our needs. Very helpful with recommendations. And when we tried their food - DELICIOUS AND TASTY! Price is reasonable, portions are great. Went to visit Bacalar from Tulum for a day trip and we got hungry. Googled “Mariscos near me” and saw it had good reviews. Long story short some of the best seafood we had ever! The Aguachilles was amazing. The owner was nice and took pride in his service to make us feel welcome. Great price for the amount of food we received. Great hospitality. We don’t usually write reviews, but La Chozita earned it! If you’re nearby give it a try and support the business!
