This food did it! We were able to get food after most other places had closed or were bar-only. This is a small place but has a good amount of seating. The bathrooms were very thoughtfully arranged and clean. The food was EASILY the best meal we had during our 5 days in Scotland, including our time in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The menu is sophisticated and varied. We found a lot to love and there were gluten free options. The portion sizes are on the large side (for all menus) We enjoyed our experience so much we booked 2 days later (to eat in the restaurant) for our 39th wedding anniversary meal. Both of our experiences were wonderful and the Staff went above and beyond on both occasions... Every person in my group would highly recommend this venue especially if you are looking for something special (or even just for a meal).. The cost is very reasonable especially for the quality of the meals and the quantity.. If you are in Ayr, I definitely recommend that you give The Fox & Willow a try.. you won't be disappointed ☺️..

Probably the best Indian we have ever had! Visiting from the Lake district on holiday, never been before we had a quick check online what food was available nearby and took a punt! The staff were nothing but accomodating and friendly. Asked what was similar to a passanda as not on menu and the gentleman said, don't worry we can make that! The next guy while ordering looked at us when we said 2 Nan breads and I said why are they large and he smiled and said yes quite large and we were really thankful for that as we couldn't eat all that shared as it was! Our little girl had scampi and chips of the kids menu followed by ice cream! Food was exceptional, both Currys, I probably had the spiciest chicken tikka masala I have ever had but the flavours were unreal, with pilau rice, Kashmiri Nan and poppadoms with a chutney tray. Not only was the food exceptional but the view is also on another level! Never have we ever say and been able to admire the sea view while chomping down a beautiful curry. I can not recommend this place enough, will definitely come back when we next choose to visit Ayr! Thanks all, keep it up!

He also made scrambled eggs for my friend’s young son — again, completely free — and took time to interact with him, which meant a lot. The next morning, after checking in to see how everything went, he even covered our breakfast in the beer garden, which was such a thoughtful gesture. The buffet was fantastic — we had so many compliments from guests and it was very reasonably priced for the quality and amount of food. The garden area was spotless and such a lovely space to enjoy the sun until 9pm. We also loved the idea of offering our guests a drink on arrival using tokens, which allowed them to choose their preferred drink — a brilliant suggestion from the staff! We genuinely couldn't have asked for a better venue or team. Everything was seamless, warm, and incredibly well looked after. Friendly people, great service and good food. After a couple of drinks we sat down in the restaurant area. The value menu 2 courses for just under £14.00 looked perfect. I ordered Penne Bolognaise and my partner ordered Chicken Fajitas Halfway through we swapped dishes as the chicken was too spicy for my partner. I have never tasted such amazing Fajitas. They were awesome, a little spicy and I loved it. My only criticism would be that my pasta was slightly over cooked and lost that Al dente bite. Luckily my partner hates Al dente pasta and loved it. First time everything was great, food amazing and very timely despite being a large group. Second time, maybe due to different staff on shift food and service dropped a bit. We took our dog and the waitress couldn't have made more of a fuss over him, she gave him treats, water & brought him a blanket to lie on. Our dog never takes treats from anyone usually but he must have been able to tell she was a dog person. The food was gorgeous, the portion sizes were good and the whole place is nicely decorated and clean inside. We walked past it initially as it's right on the corner but I'm glad we found it. We decided to go as it's got good reviews on here, and we needed somewhere dog friendly. Our expectations were exceeded in every way, thank you.

OK, not the cheapest bar in town but they have a great selection of craft keg ales. I've visited a couple of times during our stay & every time has been excellent. Only one slight downside, it appears they have new staff (training) & I wasn't too impressed with one of them. Overall the staff here are first class & this I'm sure is just a blip so hopefully they will not let standards slip, otherwise a 5 star rating. However, times have changed radically there as we discovered to my dismay last night. Nonplussed, we finished our little bottles of prosecco and were looking forward to enjoying some fine wine with our dinner. When we asked whether they still stock a particular white wine which was an old favourite, the staff serving said no they don't and when then asked whether they still stock wines from the next door fine (quality) wine merchant he replied firmly No they don't. Taken a little aback, we asked what wines they were able to serve and he replied that they had a 'Marlborough area white, a white rose, a merlot and a Malbec offering no information of the body, taste or aroma etc. Nonetheless, we plumped for a small glass each of the sauvignon blanc and honestly both of us reflexively and immediately almost spat it out. It wasn't off exactly, it just gave off an overpoweringly sickly sweet smell and the taste was indescribably nasty. I decided to try a small glass of the Malbec, but it too was just as unpalatable as the white, so we definitely weren't imagining the low bar of the wine they serve. The chicken wings were okay as they go, but the wine really let it down badly and spoiled our experience. The service was indifferent at best, however they were very enthusiastic when it came to letting us know our time was up. We only stayed because it was a nice wee nook to chat in. In conclusion, our recommendation to the management at the Smoking goat would be simply this: bring back the quality wines ASAP. While we understand times are tight for all businesses, cost cutting by serving up 'budget wines' with no other higher quality alternatives is just not seemly for a setting as special as the Smoking goat. Given our experience last night, sadly we'll not be returning any time soon which is a real pity.

Absolutely love the atmosphere, the drinks and meal are amazing and very very reasonably priced. Waiter was fantastic. This tradition will continue as we couldn't ask for a better place to be before we get full of whisky. Update - As tradition we booked here for our meal and a few drinks before the whisky festival. We booked at 1pm. After we were shown to our seats we waited on drinks and food order. After 15 mins we went and ordered drinks ourselves. When we received our drinks we ordered our food. Unfortunately this is where the service was poor. We were assured a few times our food wouldn't be long. But after 50 mins wait we decided to leave. As we were leaving our food was being brought out. The food was well cooked and had enough kick without being overpowered by chilli powder, which in my humble opinion, destroys the ability of the taste buds to detect the individual spices used during the cooking process. If I remember correctly it was £6.95 a head, which is excellent value, especially if you are of a mind to pack in as much grub as possible. I must confess, I had to raise the white flag after only one round! I’ll be back in the very near future, as I found the food and service to be first class. Oh, last thing to remember, if you wish to drink alcohol with your meal, please bring it along as it’s not sold in house. I’m assuming this is due to the absence of a drinks license. We ordered Steak pie with chips, Chicken Fajitas, Flat white coffee and a glass of water. I left all of the steak in the ashet it was served in due to the way it was, not edible and my partner gave me one of his Chicken Fajitas, this was okay although a lot of oil was present in the iron skillet which doesn’t usually happen either. Really could be doing with more cheese, salsa, sour cream and guacamole being served with these as not enough for the 3 wraps. For the money being charged at £18.95 it’s shocking. Food wasn’t served piping hot like it usually is either. Luke warm, usually the chicken Fajitas come sizzling hot which they weren’t. We have been coming here for over a decade and I have never felt the way we did at the visit. Waitress was kind although didn’t come over to ask if our food was okay. Once our plates were pushed to the edge of the table the waitress came over and upon picking up the plates I said that the steak pie doesn’t taste right at all and gave my reasons as above. She was very apologetic and said she would say to the chef. Came back and said sorry again and that she would take the drinks off but all the drinks were was a glass of water and flat white coffee so basically take £3.50 off! I said I wasn’t happy paying for the steak pie at £18.95 and my reasons why as stated above, also said all I ate was the puff pastry, veg and a little fries and wasn’t happy paying that price for it when the steak is the main component! I also asked if it was a different chef as I have never had a meal like it before here. It was really busy when we arrived but we were able to get a table. I had the nachos for starters, which was a big plateful. Not only were we late but they had already decided to stop food in the pub section. They did let us have our food in the pub section so some of the group could have the ales they liked but the food was lush. Asked for no veg in special fried rice but spring onions over the top, now with someone who is autistic it is hard to then convince them to eat it even when picked off. Great choice of food at any time of day and good quality. Decent portion sizes.
