I was super excited to go because of the rave reviews but to be honest, I left feeling disappointed. To start, when we entered the restaurant there was a weird & unpleasant smell, kind of like a smelly toilet? I can’t describe it but it wasn’t nice. When we were seated, we were put on a table in the corner right by the toilets and kitchen, which wasn’t nicely lit with candles like the other tables and the bright kitchen light behind us was distracting. I personally don’t think there should be a table here. Even the chairs were different, and it was very clearly the ‘bad’ table to be sat at which was annoying. We decided to order starters first before choosing our mains. The starters came out in decent time, but we received only one correct item. Because we had been eyeing up the meatballs anyway (which we received but hadn’t ordered) we decided to just eat them anyway and they were decent. The olives were good, the bread a bit chewy but that’s just my personal preference I suppose. The oil and balsamic was good. When our mains arrived, I instantly noticed that my partner’s plate was steaming with the heat of the dish, whilst mine was not. I mixed the pasta around, had a taste, and to my great disappointment it was lukewarm. My partner’s was a good temperature though. To add to that, my dish was frankly awful (the carbonara). I was only able to eat 1/4 of the dish because it was that bad. I don’t think it helped that it was barely hot. The sauce was a mess palette-wise and the pasta was so chewy it was sticking to my teeth. In saying that though, my partner enjoyed his seafood dish and upon trying mine said ‘it’s not great but it’s not awful’. Service was good from a lady with black hair (I think) and long nails. She was very friendly and personable. The rest of the staff were meh but having worked in hospitality myself I can’t fault them too much. Oh also the bathroom was dirty, which is a big no no for me! All in all, I left disappointed and hungry. Whilst there were certainly positives, this place just didn’t deliver in enough ways to warrant a return visit.

You get excellent, traditional Sicilian food and a wide variety of options for all dietary requirements. Some reviews have criticised the restaurant’s cleanliness and service but this is completely counter to what we experienced. We ordered our food and it came fast, however, the tomato sauce tasted like a prepackaged sauce from a supermarket - underwhelming for £17 a dish. The muscles were lovely though. They are all good and definitely value for money, but Borrello is definitely the best. @£13.95 for a 3 course meal with lovely tasting food and heartfelt service, they really can't be beat. The atmosphere is cosy but not trying to pack you in like sardines in other early bird diners in Sale that we've tried. They didn't rush you to get in another sitting too. The food was tasty and well presented. Overall this is a great budget friendly local Italian worth repeated visits

Service is good, we waited for 10 minutes for our table and it was fine considering how busy it was. We ordered a few sides which consisted the battered seafood and courgette fries with 3 different pastas. Personally I thought the vodka pasta was average and wasn’t as nice as other places I’ve tried in Manchester as it was lacking a bit of depth and was slightly too bland for my liking. I chose the pappardelle for myself and was probably the better pasta of the three. Unfortunately the ravioli we felt was quite raw especially the pasta itself, even past the al dente stage. We had addressed this to the male waiter but he didn’t seem to know how to handle the concern well and froze for a moment, but ultimately the manager took it off our bill and apologised which we appreciated. We ordered an old fashioned which tasted just like extremely watered down whisky and a Rossini. Both tasted like something from Wetherspoons but premium pricing. £32 for JUST a tuna steak with a slice of lemon on top!! Honestly wow. Couldn’t even spare some salad. Disgraceful portion, I would have been so embarrassed to served this food. In comparison I got a bruschetta which was £8.50 which tasted nicer and a larger portion. They should be ashamed! Waitress clueless and the woman chef miserable stood with her arms crossed staring at everyone. Then they had the cheek to add a 10% service charge to the bill which we asked to be removed. The food is simply lovely and the service very friendly. When you get inside you can feel this cosy and warm atmosphere and the barrels’ tables are so unique (also I loved the barrel sink in the toilet, amazing detail). They have a big selection of Italian products from the south of Italy (Calabria) and a good variety of cheeses and cured hams. If you like spicy food this is the place for you! Ask about “N’duja” it is one of their speciality and whatever you try, you can also buy to take home and bring this amazing flavours on your table. If you go for anything, go for the ribs!! They are outstanding!!!! Only negative was the sauce has changed in the Special bake so its no longer creamy tomato and just straight tomato sauce. Still lovely and tasty but the creamy tomato sauce just took it to another level. Also there wasn't alot of meat in the bake. Ordered meatballs as a side and glad we did really. There used to be loads packed in to this dish but not anymore, which is a massive shame. Garlic bread with cheese was lovely, thin and crispy and not greasy at all.
