The managers on both the day and evening shift were very helpful and pleasant. The room was clean and comfortable albeit odd positioning of the twin beds. I had a spa day and afternoon tea, the spa was lovely with a comfy chill out room and sauna facilities. The massage therapist was amazing and gave me a bespoke facial which she suggested after looking at my skin. Very knowledgeable and relaxing. The hot tubs in the woods are a lovely idea, nice to be out in nature! The changing room is very small with only one changing booth and no tables really to put your things on so they have to go in a locker or on the wet floor. The lockers are all together so if someone else is using them you're just stood waiting. The changing room was also a bit worn with big patches of paint chipped off the walls. The staff at the spa were lovely and made us feel welcome. For the afternoon tea the service was initially very warm and welcoming. Drinks arrived quick but it's almost like we were forgotten about as we waited almost an hour for our food and had to remind them we were there. A table was served afternoon tea before us despite us being the first to arrive. The staff were very apologetic but it made us have to rush our food before our treatments at the spa. For the price we paid I am a bit unsatisfied in the whole day, but individually I think the parts were good. No offer of assistance. Room was large two easy chairs, ensuite bath with shower over. Four poster bed, which was very rickety, just a double. Although clean the room needed decorating. Ditto the bathroom, grime in the grouting and along the mastic areas. Dinner was very good, aubergine covered with parmasan, spicy cherry tomatoes and salad. Steak, chips and tomato. Very tasty. Very disappointed at the standard of the room which on arrival was cold and took some time for the room to warm up. The bathroom was very cold throughout our stay as the towel radiator didn't work. The towels and toiletries provided were not of a 4 star standard and the hospitality tray was very basic and no bottled water provided. It was not a 4 star room or bathroom to say the least. The hotel in general is in need of a good clean, decorating and restoration it is very shabby. The food did not live up to expectation, undercooked and cold fish and chips. Some of the crockery was very chipped. Breakfast on the 2nd morning was chaotic due to staff shortages. No bowls for fruit or cereal, no hot water for tea and a number of the hot buffet items had run out and took time to replace. Ruth did her best to compensate for this and deserves a mention. I said I needed the nearest hot tub due to me having fibromyalgia and the hot tub helps my muscles for a while.i was not informed that I needed to climb two sets of stairs to get to the spa reception, I wasn't told there were 2 steep steps to get into the woodland hot tub . There is a short walk to the quiet room which was relaxing but very untidy.No toilet Rolls in changing room toilet and hardly any privacy as again anyone suffering with mobility issues this was not a good experience. Very disappointed with the staff that was on that day. She wasn't welcoming or helpful in any way and often turned her back when talking. Please be aware if you have a disability or poor mobility this experience isn't for you. The only nice thing about it was the cream tea and the staff there were very friendly.

The team were incredibly kind and let us stay overnight in the car park, which was such a relief. The next morning, they went above and beyond by ordering us a replacement tyre and even taking us to get it fitted with our wheel. On top of all that, the food was absolutely lovely and every single member of staff we met was so friendly and welcoming. What could have been a stressful situation turned into a really positive memory thanks to their generosity and hospitality. On arrival, we were warmly greeted and shown to our table. The restaurant is decorated beautifully with a stylish, cosy feel. However I think it’s got even better recently. This week I went for afternoon tea there for the first time and I was really impressed. It’s definitely one of the best round here and also one of the most reasonable. The sandwich selection was fantastic, you could choose which fillings you wanted and they were all absolutely delicious, made with beautifully fresh bread. The scones and cakes were very good too and you even get an individual trifle. The staff were all really friendly, they give you a box to take home any cake that you can’t manage and everything was presented very well. It was a delightful way to spend an afternoon.

Our 2nd visit today for lunch. The food was fantastic and very reasonably priced. We enjoyed a couple of beers with our lunch followed by coffee and cake that again was delicious. POOR MANAGEMENT. Held a funeral/ wake at the lodge as believe in supporting local and regulars. Prior to the funeral we visited the lodge in person and were offered any hot drink (latte, cappuccino ect) and a cake for £6.95pp and they would calculate the number of guests for us. On the day of the funeral we were actually served cold filter coffee and tea but had been charged £6.95 pp which they had also based on to many people. When challenged management after several ignored calls and emails over the last few weeks, we have been dismissed, therefore we will not visit this place again and will not be recommending.

They managed to accommodate us with short notice and well what can we say what a gem this place is in Ruthin. The food is quality and you get plenty which is always a bonus when you have a healthy appetite like myself. I would recommend the double lamb and mint burger really delicious and the chips are incredible. The staff are really friendly and attentive, we couldn't fault it what a great evening we will be back to try your Sunday lunch for sure.

We booked this pub based on a Google search and the chef, Nicola, was extremely helpful on messenger to arrange our tomohawk steak, fresh from the butcher that day. The portions we're huge and all the food was home cooked and fine butcher quality and the prices are fantastic value. 10 of us ate until we were stuffed on steak, gammon, lasagne, double burgers and the biggest Hunter's chicken ever, for £175.
