They take great care with their specialty drinks especially their old fashioneds. The food was great and the ambiance was kinda plain but pleasant and cozy. The menu is very small- 3 appetizers, 1 salad, 5 signature dishes and this evenings dessert. Heard so many good things about this place and it's legit Mexican American menu. The steak bites always come up when people talk about this place. Now I can see why that is. My wife and I came in on a Wednesday night about 530 for the first time. It was not super busy at all and we got seated fast. Orders were taken quickly as well. I got the famous original steak bites with a choice side salad. Wife got the daily special Guiso plate with refried beans and Mexican rice and homemade flour tortillas. The meal also came with a complementary plate of refried beans and red and green salsa (with a kick) and chips. It didn't take long for the plates to come out and my were the portions generous! My steak tips were fantastic. A perfect medium and very well seasoned! Melt in your mouth tender! My wife thoroughly enjoyed her Guiso and the super tender diced beef in a rich brown gravy. Laura the GM was very kind to us and gave us a little background on the business with it being our first time there. 16 years in business! I see why that's so! I'm coming back again soon to try the same plate I got but 'El Paisano' style with added grilled onions, peppers, and tomatoes.

We were given chips and salsa, one thing I enjoyed was how big the chips were, great for scooping salsa. We ordered a strawberry margarita and queso to start. Our food came out quick and hot. I ordered und extreme enchiladas, it was so much good. The beans and rice are top notch, super flavorful but not overwhelming. The enchilada sauce tasted amazing. Our waitress tried her absolute best but management must really dislike their team for putting one person in charge of an entire room. Also, avoid the bathroom at all costs. The woman’s room doesn’t have a baby changing table(oh well) and it DIDNT HAVE STALL DOORS!? Just a sheet between someone washing their hands and another experiencing the perils of subpar Mexican food exiting their system. We went to their previous location a few years ago and looked forward to trying the new spot. Wish I could go back in time and undo this entire experience.

I explained to her that I am on hospice and wheelchair-bound and I have to have somebody do these things for me. And now over two hours later, I’m supposed to find somebody to go pick up the order and pay half price if I still want it. I think that was a little ridiculous. It would’ve been very easy for her to just apologize and comp the order which I asked her to do given that this was completely their fault. She refused, and said again if I want to somebody come pick up the order, it would be half off. She obviously did not understand the difficulty of my situation in going back to get the food. Not to mention it is now hours later. I really felt disrespected as a customer and will not ever go back. The manager kept calling me sweetheart also and I asked her not to do that. I am in my 60s and she sounded quite young and I felt that was disrespectful. I know sometimes we talk and it just slips out but after asking her not to call me that anf she kept doing so, it was really frustrating to me. I know that’s kind of silly, but I want to give you my whole experience. I am not the type to ask for somebody to comp food. I believe in paying my way, but in this situation, they really messed up and the manager definitely added to the negativity of the experience. Of all the people there I would expect the manager to be courteous. Who knows, maybe they have people trying to get free food often but I truly believe I was right in this situation. I’m very disappointed. Not only did I not get what would have been a great meal but now I will not go back and I will not recommend it to others.

Wood panel walls, concrete floors that previously had tiling, and overpainted popcorn ceilings. Red faux leather chairs and benches are coupled with wood formica tabletops. If you remember everything from your youth being brown, then this will be a quaint dose of nostalgia in a busy modern world. The service was good, and I promptly received my chicken fried steak plate that I ordered off of the daily special menu. Unfortunately, this is where the trip down memory lane ends. Now, on to the brass tax: the food. I don't judge by looks, EVER. Like I said, I judge by taste. For a near $20 meal before tip, I have to be brutally honest. I can only describe my meal in one word: bland The slightly charred rolls, soggy breaded chicken fried steak, and the accompanying corn & beans all lacked flavor. The cream gravy didn't do anything to add a savory pop to the dish. The only saving grace was the ice-box pineapple fruit salad that was brought out post meal. All of the other pieces were coming together for a great, local institution dining experience. However the flavor and quality of the meal itself make this puzzle frustrating to not be able to complete.

I must say I adore San Angelo far more than the big cities. There are tons of food options and Cheddars is among the best. Total experience was great from the amazing waitress to the atmosphere to the delicious dinners. We had the Monte Cristo which has the yummiest jam dipping sauce. I almost wished I ate meat so I could enjoy it too! I had the shrimp and fish - excellent, especially the sauce. Dinner salad and buttery croissants rounded out our yummy meal. We got the full platter and I have to say this is some of the best bbq I've ever had. The smoke flavor really came through and the crust was perfect on everything but still very moist. Beans and potato salad were good as well. Slaw was not my style but fresh tasting. Decent beer selection. I dont mind counter service but the area to order is not well defined and it felt like your pushing through the bar seating to order. Have tried both their chicken pho and beef pho, both great, I just prefer the chicken. They make their sriracha in house and it wasn’t super spicy 1-2 weeks ago but today it had a little kick to it which was perfect for a very mildly spicy pho (i typically use a ton of sriracha in pho). The Thai tea was great, perfectly sweet and a great serving size. The rangoon was okay, nothing to write home about but that’s probably because we recently made crab rangoon at home. Next time I’ll get shrimp spring rolls and I want to try some of the noodle dishes and curry. I enjoyed my lunch and the service was great If you’re looking for great barbecue in the state of Texas, this is just a little better than average. Everything came sauced, which I would’ve preferred on the side . The brisket was tender, but I didn’t get a lot of smoke or seasoning. The sausage was about average, maybe good in a complex sandwich but unremarkable by itself. The potato salad and coleslaw tasted like they were scooped out of a 5 gallon drum from Cisco foods, which is fine, just know it going in. Sad as most restaurants in Texas generally have excellent smoked meats and good bbQ sauce. The food came out within 20-25min after our waitress took our order I would like to mention that our waitress was nice and attentive. I am only giving 4 stars because 1; I didn’t get my wheat toast my husband had to share his wheat toast with me or my 2 sausage patties. 2; Like I mentioned the dining room is pretty small once more people started to come in, it started to get pretty loud in there to the point that I couldn’t hear their music that they were playing over a speaker.

I had the parrillada for 1. The meat cuts were thinner than what I normally get at other restaurants but the flavor was great. My father had the Carne Asada plate was a little too salty for my fathers liking (and he likes salt). The rice and beans were very good. As I’m typing this at the table in the restaurant I changed my rating from a 4 star to a 5 star because our waitress was very friendly, attentive and even offered a to go drink. I’m sorry that I didn’t get the fresh plate pictures but some picture is better than no picture. Temperature in the restaurant at 2:29 pm on a summer day was very comfortable.
