Hunter Creek Trailhead is one of the most accessible and rewarding hiking trails near Reno. Nestled in a dry mountainous landscape, the trail offers a calming escape with the gentle sound of the creek flowing alongside. A warm breeze often follows hikers through the terrain, making the experience both refreshing and rejuvenating.
In the summertime, you’ll enjoy the mild, sweet scent of wildflowers. Much of the trail is lined with vibrant desert blooms, adding color and life to the rugged scenery.
Along the way, you’ll encounter impressive rock formations, shaded stretches of dense pine forest, and ultimately, a stunning cold-water spring fed by freshly melted snow cascading over rocks—a well-earned highlight at the trail's end.

We enjoyed this hike. It's fairly exposed a great deal of the time, wear sunscreen and appropriate clothes. Our GPS and another couple we met on the trail indicated it was over 7 miles. Not very intense but not easy either. Parts of the trail are narrow, loose rocks, and at the end, you'll need to cross the stream by logs. It is worth the hike! Absolutely beautiful falls!

Entry level hiking and nature preserve. Not may trails but what you do see makes up for it. For one thing this place has a wonderful tree covered trail and looks like a tunnel of trees. Two things though. The Truckee river has often flooded this area so it's best to go two days after a flood unless you don't mind lots of mud and secondly sometimes this place attracts questionable people from the streets so it's best to go during the day with other people.

Trail head is at the top of Robb Drive, them left half a block. Park on street. Follows a seasonal stream up a canyon on Peavine peak. It can be steep, rocky and narrow in places. Lots of vegetation, from sagebrush, bitterbrush, desert peach, grasses, many kinds of wildflowers to riparian plants, like Willow thickets and water loving plants. Intersects other trails and a major mountain bike trail, can be made into a loop or just out and back. Great views of surrounding mountains and Truckee Meadows. Peavine Peak is geologically interesting because it is much older and metamorphosed than surrounding mountains, 225 million years vs 4 to 6. One of my favorite hikes.

The balloon races is an event I loved taking my daughter to. Family friendly, things are a bit pricey even though the event itself is free. But it seems like everything is pricey these days. Still a fun event! We also went to the Dragon Lights this year. I'd never been before, but it was amazing! My daughter, my parents and I had a wonderful time. Lots of people and parking was terrible, but there is a shuttle that goes from the front of the event all the way out to the last parking lot, so that was awesome 👌!

It was a beautiful visit even in the winter. The museum is amazing! I will have to come back to spend more time. There is so much to learn and see. Photos don't do this place, Justice! This park is a staple or Reno. Having been born and raised here, I have so many memories from this place. I love the events that take place here and the parks are fun for the kids. It's also a nice place to walk. The reason for 3 stars is because it's really starting to smell and the bathroom situation is unexceptable. The regular bathrooms are always closed and the portable restrooms are extremely unmanaged. They were all full to the brim and out of toilet paper and sanitation.
Today, it was heartbreaking to see a little girl about 6 years old screaming in pain because she needed to go potty so badly that her tummy was hurting. The mommy side of me is pissed by this. Beautiful hike with decent quality trail surface, some amazing vistas! There are several places where it is not well marked. In fact I missed a turn and walked an extra mile to correct. If not for my use of the AllTrails app, I would have been pretty lost. It was overcast when I did this hike but I bet this must be roasting hot in full sun! I recommend proper hiking footwear for this. It's possible in keen sandals, or sneakers but much better if you wear boots/ hiking shoes. Trail had at least 2 small water crossings that could swamp sneakers or teva-tye shoes.

This 2 mile scenic loop is an easy hike and the view from the top of the Rattlesnake mountain is beautiful. You get to watch the city view and the airport right in front with airplanes landing and flying by pretty close. Careful while going up the hill as it’s steep and full of rocks. Awesome local trail system! Hiked today(2/18/24) from the lot to around 1/2 mile short of the junction with Church’s Pond. Snow covered the trail the entire way, but snow shoes were not needed until the higher elevations. Traction devices would help for the hike down. If you need to stretch your, kids, or pets legs you can do so with a little walk along the short pond walk, or venture on the interpretive trail and find a resting spot along the Truckee River. My second visit to Mayberry Park to try the fishing and just enjoy the great weather. The walking trail follows the Truckee River which was paved, flat, and easy to walk. Seem to be a lot of people using it, probably because it was a beautiful day. We didn't catch as many fish as the first time because of other people enjoying the park and river either with their dogs playing in the river and other people who launched a guided rafting experience. River rafting and float season has begun! I've been floating the Truckee River for +20 years and this is my all time favorite place to launch our rafts. If there was any complaint, it would be the lack of parking but there's plenty on the street. The key is to arrive early. It's a great park to chill at while blowing up your rafts and the grass is well kept. What I love about launching our rafts here is because it's shallow enough and easy to get in your raft/tube. On other parts of the river, you might have to trek a little and sometimes it can be steep and not safe. Whereas here at Mayberry, it's flat and more safe, especially for kids. Where we get out of the river is downtown Reno at Wingfield park. On average it's about a 2 hour float. I've never had a problem with theft in all my years here, but as a reminder don't forget to lock your car. Happy summer and be safe!
Overall it's just a nice park to have a picnic, walk your dog, take River walks, throw frisbee or a football, etc.. As for bathrooms, there isn't a public restroom but there is a porta potty.

What a great store! It has a little bit of everything. I can spend an hour shopping and still continue to find new things. The store is well stocked and there’s a wide variety of items to choose from.
There’s a lot of main staple items but there’s also equally more Eclectic items to purchase. I have included pictures of as much of the different things that are available in the store. I probably will exceeded my limit.
I also have some videos of the things that really caught my eye so I could remember, when the time comes, where I saw it.
My favorite spot in the whole store is when you enter the front doors you turn to the right. That’s where all the really cool camping and exercise items are. There’s also a section of bicycles and lots of bike helmets and apparel.
The seasons change and what is available Changes with them. Right now since it’s ski season, winter sports, you won’t find a lot of that type of item. The way they’re able to offer such low prices is by selling things off-season. It’s not to say that they don’t have a lot of winter items, it’s just that come spring and summer, there will be a lot more winter items which will be there ast reduced prices. In fact, they’ve got a whole stack of kids beginner type skis at a very reasonable price. You can see them in the pictures that I took.
But, that’s only the beginning, the store goes on and on all the way through to the back around the side then back around the other side and down through the middle There’s so much selection that you would most definitely find something that you have to have.
I’m not gonna say anymore in the review. Instead I’ll just let the pictures speak for themselves.
The only one thing I can say that’s not in the pictures is that the employees are really Kind caring people. They have a good crew working now and they’re willing to help if you need to find something. Like just about everything!
Congratulations to Store management, you’ve got your act together. The store is in much better order than in the past and I think your employees are the ones that are making the difference! 🤙🤙👍

I absolutely love it here. I always find things that I can wear or use when I’m camping. They have excellent selections of apparel. Outerwear and hiking boots as well as some shoes. Sometimes you get lucky and find items that are worth hundreds of dollars marked down considerably. The staff is always friendly and attentive. It's a good store, overall... good prices on work gear and outdoor stuff. But the security is ridiculous. The greeter at the store was a kevlar-vested security guard, I understand that shoplifting was a problem but now if you want to try on a jacket you have to get it unlocked from a cable by a manager. I love walking around Virginia Lake, especially when the weather is as beautiful as it was today. I think it’s about a mile around so it’s quick if I don’t have much time, and easy to do multiple laps when I’m not in a hurry. I’ve brought picnics here with my husband and also come with the kids and the dog. Always nice to see other people enjoying the views, working out or just enjoying watching the ducks and geese. Wonderful place to get out of the city without having to drive too far. Many hiking trails from beginner to almost expert level. Tall pines provide lots of shady areas so no matter what time of day you go it is comfortable. Connects to Marilyn's pond for fishing, many small trout are visible from shore.
