Chennai (Madras)

Chennai, on the Bay of Bengal in eastern India, is the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu. The city is home to Fort St. George, built in 1644 and now a museum showcasing the city’s roots as a British military garrison and East India Company trading outpost, when it was called Madras. Religious sites include Kapaleeshwarar Temple, adorned with carved and painted gods, and St. Mary’s, a 17th-century Anglican church.

Marina Beach, a vibrant urban oasis located just 4 kilometers from Chennai Central Railway Station, is renowned for being the second longest beach in the world, stretching an impressive 13 kilometers. This bustling shoreline is a must-visit destination in Chennai, attracting tourists and locals alike with its lively atmosphere. As you stroll along the sandy expanse, you'll encounter kite sellers and cricket enthusiasts mingling with families enjoying quality time together.
Beautiful place , Location, View Point, It is so Amazing we had enjoyed a lot. With being longest coastal areas. We have walked a very long distance in the coastal lines to enjoy the view from different parts.

Marina Beach is the perfect spot for both family outings and moments of peaceful relaxation. Early mornings here are calming, with beautiful sunrises and cool breezes making it ideal for a peaceful walk or some quiet time. In the evenings, the beach becomes lively and is great for families, children have ample space to play, there are fun rides, and the festive atmosphere is wonderful. Transport to Marina Beach is very convenient, with easy access by metro, local trains, buses, autos, and cabs. The location is close to many parts of the city so reaching the beach is hassle-free. One of the highlights is the variety of delicious local snacks and food stalls. From crispy bajjis, sundal, and murukku to ice creams and fresh fruit, there is something for everyone. Many nearby restaurants and cafés offer both South Indian and multi-cuisine options, so it’s easy to find good food with a sea view. Marina Beach is well-maintained, and recent improvements have included better accessibility for everyone. Whether you want to soak in the sound of the waves, enjoy street food, or spend quality time with loved ones, Marina Beach never disappoints! Highly recommended for all ages.
ABHISHEK K — Google review
Marina Beach ranks first among the worst beaches in India. At least it is a beach that is not only difficult to get to, but also to see. There are people on the road, traffic in the evening, women are not there to change their clothes, to go to the beach you have to walk 1km on the sand. It is best for those who go on a tour to Chennai to avoid seeing a 100% clean beach. If you want to see it, it is better to look somewhere a little further away between Marina Beach and the Lighthouse
Ramesh B — Google review
A clean and serene beach of Chennai. It has a long coast line. I visited in day time in afternoon heat so couldn't enjoy the evening chowpatty food options and fun. The beach cleaning is actively going on.
Sarthak V — Google review
If there’s one place in Chennai that truly captures the soul of the city, it’s Marina Beach. 🌊✨ Stretching for more than 13 kilometers, Marina is one of the longest urban beaches in the world, and it’s not just about the waves — it’s about the stories they whisper. Established during the British era in the 1880s, this beach has witnessed decades of history, from colonial promenades to freedom rallies, and now stands as a symbol of Chennai’s pride and culture. I reached here just before sunrise, and honestly, I wasn’t prepared for what I saw — the sky slowly turning golden, waves softly kissing the shore, and the sound of the sea blending with temple bells and morning prayers from a distance. It felt like time had paused. Marina isn’t just a beach — it’s a living piece of history and emotion. Built during the British colonial era in the 1880s, it has seen everything — from royal processions to freedom movements. Walking here feels like walking through time, but with the heartbeat of modern Chennai all around you. By evening, it transforms completely — families laughing, kids flying kites, vendors selling roasted corn and spicy sundal, the air thick with the smell of street food and sea breeze. There’s a rhythm to it — chaotic, colorful, and absolutely unforgettable. I loved visiting the MGR and Anna memorials, and the Triumph of Labour statue, standing tall and proud like the city itself. Don’t miss a stroll toward the Lighthouse, especially when it’s lit up at night — the view is breathtaking! Whether you’re a wanderer, a history lover, or just someone who wants to feel alive by the sea — Marina Beach will stay with you long after you’ve left. 💙 Pro Tip: Go at sunrise for peace, at sunset for magic, and stay long enough to let the waves write your story.

If you’re in Chennai near Chepauk Stadium, you must visit Marina Beach — it’s a beautiful place with clean and refreshing water. 🌊✨.
ATUL R — Google review
The beach is really mesmerizing and the cool breeze which is coming from sea side is literally make anyone'd mind fresh !! But the beach is too crowdy although that is to be expected for one of the longest beaches in Asia !
Sid — Google review
The beach at night is absolutely stunning! The gentle sound of waves combined with the shimmering moonlight creates a serene and romantic atmosphere. It’s perfect for a peaceful walk or just sitting back and enjoying the view. The cool breeze and the reflection of lights on the water make it an unforgettable experience. On Saturdays and Sundays, there’s a lively mela that adds a festive vibe, but do keep in mind that during these days, finding parking for a four-wheeler can be quite challenging. Highly recommended for anyone who loves calm and scenic nights by the sea.

Specialty Museums
Fort St. George Museum, established in 1644, is the first British fortress in India and a significant historical site in Chennai. The museum boasts over 3000 antique artifacts from different periods of modern history and is divided into three floors with ten galleries. Visitors can explore indigenous weapons, a diverse collection of armors, shells fired during World Wars I & II, British Army uniforms, and porcelain articles used during the East India Company era.
It was a really interesting experience walking through both Indian and British colonial history. The museum is actually inside an old British fort, which adds to the whole vibe. We were especially amazed by all the stuff they had on display—things like old weapons, coins, uniforms, documents, and even furniture from the British times. Security check up would be there. One can book tickets at the entrance of the museum through QR code.(20 ruppes per adult). Just a reminder. It's a bit hot indoors. Also it's only open till 5 pm.

Fort St George Museum – A Gateway to Colonial Chennai. A fascinating journey into Chennai’s colonial past—rich in artefacts, art, and historical significance. Filled with galleries showcasing weaponry, coins, uniforms, paintings, documents, and even the first Indian flag hoisted after Independence, the Fort Museum brings history to life through thoughtfully curated exhibits. The museum is housed in a charming 18th-century structure that once served as the Madras Bank and the Exchange Hall. Upon entering, you’re greeted by a striking marble statue of Lord Cornwallis—an iconic landmark and conversation starter. Ground floor features armaments and porcelain; an upper floor displays portraits, medals, and coins; and the top floor houses the Indian national flag hoisted after Independence. Well-preserved galleries, especially the detailed craftsmanship on artifacts and colonial ephemera. The museum can feel quite warm, especially on hot days. Fans are few and spaced out. Entry ticket can be booked through online link, via QR codes only, at the entrance. Since the museum lies within a government compound, anticipate police screening. Carry a valid ID. Open from 9 AM to 5 PM. Entry Fee: Rs.20 per head. Bring water, there are limited facilities inside. St Mary’s Church (“Westminster Abbey of the East”) is worth exploring too. Nice place to spend 1 to 2 hours with family. Children might enjoy the artifact's. Free Car parking available across the main road.
Cyru D — Google review
Museum inside St. George Fort, Chennai containing all the British era historical artifacts that were preserved. A nominal Rs.20 digital ticket needs to be booked which goes to the government. It's worth of you're a history nerd & want to see the artifacts with your own eyes instead of just reading about it in the books. The data there will satisfy your historical curiosity and increase your knowledge for sure.

This was probably one of the best and most memorable museums I've ever visited. This is definitely an unforgettable experience for my trip to Chennai. Looking at the paintings (that I saw on YouTube) in real life is just mesmerising. I couldn't bring myself to move away from the painting exhibit. The firearms, coins and plates, etc., were also fascinating. But, the paintings were the main highlight. If you're in Chennai, DO NOT MISS THIS.
Hasini — Google review
We came by train to the Fort St George stop but you can't enter from there so have to go all the way round to tbe opposite side. The foreigner fee to enter is Rp250 but you can't pay cash, so you have to scan the QR code and pay by credit card, which might not be easy. After your inside.... you can wonder round and we exited by the Fort St George station The church was all locked up on Sunday unfortunately. The museum was very good, with mortar cannons, old medals, uniforms, a whole room of massive portraits of British kings / Queens and local dignitaries (British and indian) rifles, coins over the ages and other stuff. Well laid out and not crowded

The seat of Madras Presidency! While most of the British era building are now govt offices.. this one is a museum! Gives a peek into the happenings of Madras presidency & it's aftermath. It houses busts of Viceroys and Guv-Generals, coins of that era, cannons, portraits and paintings of places around Chennai. Never miss the display of the "Oldest preserved National Flag" which was hoisted in 1932. It's amazing! Carry an ID card for security clearance and the place to close to Broadway bus station and well connected by public transport.

You can clearly understand the history of how Chennai was ruled by the British. However, please note the following: since the site is connected to military facilities, the entrance is on the seaside. You will be asked to show your passport, and security is strict. Tickets are available only through online payment and cost 250 rupees.

B.M. Birla Planetarium is a modern facility located within the Periyar Science and Technology Centre campus at Kotturpuram. It offers visitors a virtual tour of the night sky and hosts astronomy shows on its specially perforated hemispherical aluminum inner dome. The planetarium features 360-degree theater for an immersive experience. Additionally, it has 8 galleries with over 500 exhibits showcasing various aspects of science and technology.
Maintaintained very well. ₹30 for parking car. Entry fee, package is best. For adult ₹100 per person, ₹50 per kid, kids will love 3D show and planetarium show. Sphere show is nice, My kids enjoyed mirror house, and maths wing. Calculate your weight on another plant is also good. It's raining today. But it won't affect any show. When I visit here play areas are sourrounded by water. So can't able to enjoy slides and swings. We missed it. Totally my kids enjoyed here. Worth visiting.

It was awesome visiting this place with the kids! Totally recommend it. Grab the combo ticket and check out the three amazing shows. Adult tickets are ₹60 and kids' tickets are ₹30 for the planetarium, science center, and 3D show package. "Science on Sphere" is ₹20 for adults and ₹10 for kids. The Planetarium can show all kinds of celestial movements. They use special projectors to make the astronomical stuff look incredible on the dome. Popular exhibits include the Solar System, stars, seasons, comets, and the moon landing. There's also a cool DRDO pavilion. The "Dawn of the Space Age" show is a mind-blowing Mirrordome+ experience – super realistic space travel visuals.

Children's park is free of charges. For planetarium charges above 12 years of Rs. 80 and below 12 years Rs.40. Car parking Rs. 20. 3D show is amusing and the planetarium gives good knowledge about the universe too the children. Nearly maintained. Children can spend hours here.

Excellent place to visit in the heart of the city specially along with kids. Very informative. 3d show, spherical show, evolution garden were great. Price is very decent.
Rupchand J — Google review
Birla Planetarium is located right in the heart of the city. It’s a quiet place with plenty of parking available in front. The ticket prices are very reasonable – **INR 100 for adults and INR 50 for children** covers the entire package (Planetarium show, entry, 3D show, and Sphere show). There’s also an option to buy a **basic INR 35 ticket** for only the Planetarium show. The campus is not very large, so walking inside is easy. At the entrance, you’re greeted by an **old fighter jet (HAL HF-24 Marut)**, an **old steam locomotive**, and a **model of the GSLV rocket**. There’s also an **evolution park (Dinosaur World)**, but unfortunately, like the science and industrial play areas for kids, it isn’t well maintained. The **real highlight is inside** – the Planetarium and the Science Exhibition Centre. Clean washrooms are available outside, and there are gift, souvenir, and toy shops inside. Food options are limited to a small snack counter selling tea, coffee, and light snacks, so it’s best to carry your own lunch if you plan to spend the full 5–6 hours here. Do note that food and water bottles are not allowed inside the Planetarium show, but they can be deposited at the front desk. **Science & Exhibition Centre:** * **Ground Floor:** * DRDO Gallery (models of tanks, battle equipment, and Tejas aircraft) * Hall of Nuclear Power (detailed displays on nuclear power generation) * 3D Show (10-minute dinosaur world movie with 3D glasses – very exciting for kids) * **First Floor:** * Oceans Gallery * Mirror House (fun for kids with mirror illusions) * Indian Space Gallery (models, information on ISRO projects, and a live quiz show) * Ramanujan Mathematics Gallery (interactive experiments) * Heart Museum (hearts of different animals preserved in jars) * Science on a Sphere (visual science show on a spherical display) **Planetarium Show:** The absolute **star attraction** – a 20-minute immersive journey through space, stars, the Sun, Moon, and other planets. Truly fascinating, especially for children. ✨ **Overall:** Birla Planetarium is highly educational and an excellent place for kids interested in science, space, and technology. While the outdoor exhibits and some galleries could use better maintenance, the Planetarium and Science Centre make the visit absolutely worthwhile.

Arignar Anna Zoological Park, located in Vandalur just 32 kilometers from Chennai, is a sprawling haven for wildlife enthusiasts and families alike. Covering an impressive 1260 acres, it stands as the largest zoo of its kind in Southeast Asia. This remarkable park features expansive natural enclosures that allow visitors to observe a diverse array of flora and fauna up close. With around 138 species on display, including both endemic and exotic animals, it's truly a paradise for nature lovers.
I recently visited the zoo, and it was a wonderful experience. The place is well-maintained with clean surroundings and clearly marked pathways, making it easy to navigate. The variety of animals is impressive — from majestic lions and playful monkeys to colorful birds and reptiles. Each enclosure is spacious and designed to resemble the animals’ natural habitat, which shows the effort put into their care and comfort. The staff were friendly and informative, always ready to answer questions. Educational boards near each enclosure provided useful details about the species, which made the visit not only fun but also very informative. Facilities like restrooms, food stalls, and seating areas were clean and accessible. It’s a great spot for families, especially children, as it’s both entertaining and educational. Overall, the zoo offers a perfect balance of conservation, education, and recreation. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys spending time with nature and wildlife.

Arignar Anna Zoological Park (Vandalur Zoo) - a day well spent! I visited this sprawling zoo with my family, and we had a roaring time (pun intended). The highlight was definitely the Bengal tiger- those piercing eyes and majestic stripes left us in awe. We also spotted a rare white tiger, which was a treat. The lion enclosure was impressive, with the kings of the savannah lazing in the sun. The Indian bears were adorable, playing around. The giraffes were another favorite, with their long necks and gentle eyes. We enjoyed watching them roam. The peacocks were a sight to behold, spreading their vibrant feathers in a stunning display. The cassowari, with their unique casques, were an interesting sight. The zoo is spread over a vast area, with plenty of greenery and naturalistic enclosures. It's a great place to spend a day with family and learn about wildlife conservation. Overall, a fun and educational experience! 4.5/5 stars. Highly recommended for families and wildlife enthusiasts!

Visited Arignar Anna Zoological Park (Vandalur Zoo) recently and it was an amazing experience! The zoo is huge, very well maintained, and has a great variety of animals. We really enjoyed the lion safari and deer safari totally worth it! 🦁 🦌 Yes, the ticket prices felt a bit on the higher side, but considering the size and upkeep of the zoo, it's completely justified. A perfect place to spend a day with family or friends. Full paisa wasool experience! 👍🏻 ✨✨
BIKASH — Google review
The Vandalur zoo is a very vast area. The number of animals, when we went with family during a weekday, were less. I understand that this is a very old zoo but it is not properly maintained. There are not many indications about which way we have to go (if you are planning to take the cycles or go by walk). The is a tour available in buggy but they just drive through. Many animals shelters are poorly maintained. There is only one restaurant which provides food during lunch. The quality is questionable, but no other choice. Own food also is not allowed inside. Get plenty of water if you are walking in the zoo. There are kiosks were water bottles are available but we need to return them intact (not to crushed, no stickers to be removed, etc) if we need to get the deposit amount for the water bottles. Again hygiene of these water bottles is questionable. One good use of technology is in buying tickets. Instead of waiting in queues to buy tickets, we can scan QR code to get the tickets in WhatsApp.
Koushik C — Google review
A great zoo to visit!!! Entry ticket: 200/person Electric vehicle fees: 150/person Deer and Lion safari: 150/person A great zoo with lots of animals. Each animal has ample space for roaming around owing to large enclosures. There are toilets and drinking water at regular intervals of time. The no plastic policy is also highly recommendable, especially since there are free animals like deer roaming around the park. Modes of travel inside the park: 1. Walking (will take around 4 hours to walk around the whole park) 2. Cycles 3. E-bike 4. E-carts (park is divided into zones. The cart will take you from entrance to first zone and the let you off. You can roam around till whenever you need and the go to the pickup point. The e-carts will pick you from this pickup point and transfer you to the next point and so on. Also note that this mode of travel will not cover all animals, especially those that are between zones during transit). There are also small shops selling cold as well as hot drinks and snacks. I recommend going to the safari after visiting the zoo because the safari bus is air conditioned and helps you cool off a bit before leaving the park. However, the safari was not as good. There were three lions near an enclosure and some deer.
Abey J — Google review
Visited Vandalur Zoo recently and had a great overall experience — the place is well-maintained, clean, and perfect for a family outing. However, a few things can be improved. Electric cycles are very limited, especially on weekends — late comers won’t get any, which is disappointing. Also, there is no online booking option for cycles, battery cars, or safari tickets, which causes unnecessary waiting. The safari experience itself can be better with more animals added to make it feel fuller and more exciting.

Vegetarian restaurant
Nestled in the bustling heart of Chennai, Annalakshmi Restaurant is a delightful temple-themed eatery that celebrates the rich tapestry of Indian vegetarian cuisine. With roots tracing back to Malaysia in 1984, this charming establishment has expanded its reach across India and beyond, including locations in Singapore and Australia. As a non-profit organization, Annalakshmi dedicates part of its earnings to support artistic and charitable initiatives at the Temple of Arts.
I would define this as a vegeterian paradise, where every rupee is worth it. We came with high expectations and these were even exceeded! We went for the Mahalakshmi menu, a series of starters, soups, Indian breads and rices, all along with their side dishes. Just to mention the top ones: dahi puri, palak and pees, curd base with ladyfingers, creamy paneer… To conclude a good payasam and paan. The menu is expensive considering average meals for Indian standard, however we would happily pay for it again. Quantity was even excessive and we were offered the opportunity to repeat our favorite dishes. The staff was very attentive and polite. At some points I would say the service was too fast but good overall. The ambience is a little bit old fashioned but comfortable, even though the music was too loud. Overall it is a very recommendable experience, specially for those willing to discover authentic Indian dishes in a safe and tranquil environment (tourist friendly).
Doctor N — Google review
While the ambiance and aesthetics of the restaurant are truly impressive — I’d easily give them a full 100 points for that — the dining experience overall was quite disappointing. None of the dishes we ordered met expectations. The veggie soup was essentially just water with vegetables, lacking any real flavor. Both the dal tadka and the kadai vegetable curry were unnecessarily heavy with cream, which made the experience quite amusing in a way. All the fried items — baby corn, paneer, and vendakkai — came in seriously stingy portions, especially considering the premium pricing. Seriously never seen a fine dining restaurant servicing starter with ketchup. On a positive note, the serving staff and waiters did an okay job explaining the specials and assisting where needed, although they didn’t really make an effort when it came to actually serving the food. Overall, despite the beautiful setting, I wouldn't return for the food.

Wow!! Totally surprised. Beautiful decor and ambience. Whole place smelled so good (either incense or some room fragrance). Staff were so polite and friendly. Service was top notch. Food was good. It wasnt extraordinary. If you opt for the unlimited thali, skip on the appetizers as you can fill yourselves up and wont have room for the main course. Will definitely come back. Whole family enjoyed the experience.
Vijay K — Google review
They have once of the greatest ambiance in the chennai city. The food is very pricey thou and the thali has all regular south/North Indian dishes (nothing too fancy). They also don’t allow sharing thali, if you are 5 people then you need to pay for 5 Thalis
Ashish K — Google review
Excellent service. Taste was really top notch. All items are good. But the quantity n variety is too heavy for a fixed menu. Because on weekends there is no ala carte menu. So for kids n old people it is too heavy. They can avoid using plastic water bottles. Can have a few more waiting chairs at reception. Car parking the assistance has to be a bit more quick. Overall a nice experience but not affordable for a middle class audience.
Manikandan R — Google review
The decor of the restaurant is top class, very fine paintings everywhere etc, but I cannot understand the pricing.. 1200 rupees for a thaali, outrageous and a rip off - the food tastes no different to wherever else I ate in Chennai. Cannot understand what the fuss is all about this place.
Naven P — Google review
Been to this restaurant recently. Had a great scrumptious lunch and was really satisfied. The staff service is also good. Even though the price is expensive, it's still worth it.
Surya R — Google review
Called them twice. Everytime the receptionist picks and call and speaks to someone else. He goes on to answer your call with haste and also doesn't stop talking to the other people's in person. So in the meele he said they have BUFFET which is WRONG. I am happily thinking booked for buffet went next day for dinner and found only Thali is available. Disappointed ! Since we had called for a family get-together didn't want to rush to other options we went ahead with Thali. Cost: There is a la carte but the cost of the same items would run more than ₹2000 per person. This is not a 5star hotel to charge as equivalent to one but this is of a different kind. Ambience : A pure vegetarian restaurant designed to evoke a sense of royalty and rich tradition. The decor includes intricate carvings, statues, and traditional furnishings, creating an ambiance that reflects ancient Indian arts and culture. Parking : There is valet parking Service : Excellent. The server even suggested options for kids. There is verities of dosas. He even went on to explain the dishes Food : Too many varities. Tastewise not so great. But it tasted almost as at home. Payasam didn't taste too sweet but yummy. Actually except for Pineapple kesari none tasted sweet. There is jain food option. Washroom : 10 yards after 3 doors beside lift lobby. Who can have come : Family get together, vegetarian needing a quite and serene atmosphere to talk to each other. Alternative: you can always choose flamboyant, vibrant and continental meals at any other grand star hotels.

The vegetarian starters, often overlooked elsewhere, were both abundant and well conceived. A few lacked visual flair, but their execution and flavour were exceptional. It’s rare to find such depth in vegetarian offerings. The dessert selection was nothing short of exquisite refined, indulgent, and genuinely memorable. Each one crafted with precision and flair. Service was pleasant and professional overall, though a touch more attentiveness would elevate the experience further. In sum, a distinguished dining experience marked by elegance, variety, and a commendable commitment to quality

Loved my experience at Madras Pavilion, ITC Grand Chola! The ambience is beautiful, the food was amazing, and the desserts were to die for. The staff were super friendly and made the evening extra special. Pro Tip: Do check with the manager for any pre-booking offers — sometimes they have great deals!

I visited the newly relaunched Madras Pavilion for their Saturday buffet, and the experience had a clear high point. The dessert section has improved beautifully, with cheesecakes, macarons, mousse, and many other treats that genuinely felt premium and delicious. However, the main food didn’t deliver the same satisfaction. The biryani, which is often praised, didn’t work for me this time, and a few other dishes felt average. I feel the food section can definitely be enhanced, just like the impressive upgrade seen in the desserts. Overall, an amazing dessert experience with room for improvement in the main spread.

The all-new Madras Pavilion at a ITC grand chola,is now open! What I instantly loved about the space are its fresh new colours and bright, cheerful tones. The food counters are thoughtfully organised and beautifully spaced out, with a menu that feels both well-curated and inviting. My favourite corner, the one celebrating millets, is a lovely addition that truly enhances the overall dining experience. There’s also an all-new cocktail menu, and I must say, The Jasmine was my personal favourite. And as always, the dessert counters brought out the child in me — my eyes were darting around even before the sugar rush kicked in!

Very good food and service was amazing. Thank you Abhishek for tending to all our food requirements/allergies. Overall it's worth experiencing the food and service. The staff were very nice and quick with helping with our requests.

One of the finest place to have a buffet. Price wise high since it’s 5 star hotel. The quality of food we can’t find it anywhere. Starting from starters they provide all unic dishes. Biriyani is full of ghee and good in taste. Desert is the highlight, they are given large variety of international desserts. Top notch it was. The ambiance and service is out of the world. Price is around 2500-3000₹ plus tax. I went for my birthday and they provide excellent free cake. Must visit once in a life.

South Indian restaurant
Ratna Cafe, established in 1948 in Triplicane, Chennai, is a renowned South Indian eatery known for its classic offerings in a traditional setting. The cafe's generous servings of sambar with soft idlis and flavorful dosas have made it a favorite among locals and visitors alike. While the cafe has expanded to other parts of Chennai, its flagship location in Triplicane remains popular.
Very good restaurant. We visited this place in the night around 8:30pm. Was quite crowded. We ordered idly with sambar and sambar vada, basundhi, filter coffee. The sambar was as always top notch and with more quantity. We also had a set of poori. Poori was very soft and the potato side was always tasty. Sambar vada had 2 pieces in it , the size of vada was big in size. It was very filling for one person.Basundhi was so good, chill and nice to finish as a dessert. The staffs and service was good and quick, didn't need to wait for long time. We sat in the AC area in the ground floor. Non- AC is also available. Handwashing area is a bit dirt but otherwise fine with everything else. Must try place!

Seems like a famous place but when I ate their idli, it was pretty average. I mean , there wasn't anything special in it. Just a normal Idli whuch you'd get anywhere. I would rate Sangeetha restaurant better compared to this, taste wise as well as accompaniment (3 types of chutneys)

What a food…! Excellent taste and texture. Idly sambar combo was a must try item. This place is situated near marina beach so while going that way all you guys go there and try it out. I swear it’s been a nice experience.

"Visited this quaint restaurant and had an amazing experience! Their signature Sambar Idli is a must-try, tastes exactly like homemade Sambar. The flavors are spot on and the idlis are soft and fluffy.A comforting and delicious meal!"

Best place in Chennai to have proper authentic south Indian food by far! Loved the Sambar here... It was just perfect. I had Idli smbar, Vada sambar, Pongal, dosa for breakfast. Everything tasted perfect and very fresh. The filter coffee was just wow. Also went here again to have lunch. Again.. Loved the lunch here, the proper south Indian food tasted sooo delicious. And the prices are very much affordable. Much much recommended to have breakfast n lunch here if you want to taste heavenly sambar.

I had a very disappointing experience at Ratna Cafe, Triplicane today. We ordered 8 plates of Masala Dosa, and the cashier confirmed the order. After paying the full amount (₹978 as per the bill attached), we were made to wait for around 10 minutes, only to be told "stock over." They forced us to change our order to Podi Onion Dosa, charged extra, and still made us wait more than 20 minutes. To make things worse, while we were sitting, the cleaning lady rudely asked us to move to another place - totally disrespectful! This kind of poor management, lack of coordination, and rude behavior is unacceptable for a restaurant with such a big name. They didn't even bother to apologize for the inconvenience. Totally not worth the hvne. Be careful before visiting.

Ratna cafe located in the midst of Triplicane market. It's a pure veg restaurant serving tiffins, lunch and dinner. The food quality and taste is very good. Went in for lunch around 2:30pm got the table easily , they have AC and Non AC sections in the same level. There is no price difference in the menu for AC, so one can comfortably seat and have their meal. I initially didn't know about it but the manager on duty suggested I can sit inside aswell. AC dining hall was centrally cooled and was pleasant, service boys were also good and took the order properly and served perfectly. Food taste was also good, one can blindly go here for any meals. Prices are a little premium and fine as we sit inside a AC dining hall and hygeine and cleanliness is good. Highly recommended if you are in triplicane and looking for veg food.

South Indian restaurant
Dakshin is a renowned restaurant in Chennai that offers an authentic South Indian dining experience. Since its opening in 1989, it has maintained its traditional concept, decor, and staff. The menu features a wide range of dishes from Kerala, Andhra, and Chettinad, allowing guests to sample various regional flavors. The restaurant's temple-style setting is complemented by local music and unique decor elements such as bronze Nataraja sculptures and distinctive chandeliers.
We went on a Tuesday evening. It wasn't busy so we had a quiet dinner. This eve there was no live music but that was fine, they had other music playing. The service is really friendly, and the portion sizes are massive. The food is delicious, I really enjoyed the crab soup 😍 and the prawns as starter. Unfortunately the main was so much, we couldn't finish. You can even get extra serving so make sure to come with an appetite. We tried the fish and non-veg thali, and it was really good to get a taste of the delicious food they prepare. The filter coffee ☕️ was also good. Had a lovely evening, thanks!

I’ve been wanting to try this place ever since they moved from Crowne Plaza. I went for a Sunday lunch thali. The entrance is stunning, and the ambiance is beautiful, keeping the fully rooted South Indian heritage with a modern aesthetic. The service here is top-notch, better than almost anywhere else I’ve been. However, my experience was let down by the food. It was extremely average, even Sangeetha, Geetham, and Bhavyam serve better-tasting food. I recently visited Visesham before this place, and that set a high bar for me. The food was served cold many times, and I had to ask them to replace it several times to get it hot. The only thing that stood out on the menu was the banana dosa and the mix fruit ice cream (mango, banana, and custard apple, if I’m not mistaken). I would suggest Visesham and Avartana for an elevated dining experience in South Indian cuisine.

It was a great luxury fine dining experience, their signature Thali was good in taste too. However, they can plan the meal better. Since they bring out everything on the plate in one go, it becomes so cold & inedible. They can perhaps train the staff to bring the food course by course upon request so it can be hot & fresh to consume. The newer staff can be a bit more cordial too.

Authentic south indian food. Calm and relaxing ambience. Live music by musicians rendering famous tamil songs. Many foreigners visit this place for south indian food due to less crowd and relaxing atmosphere. They change menus quite often. Seen kadainrha keerai first time among the many restaurants we have been to. Desert were absolute clasic. Payasam was very original and tasty. Mukkani ice cream (3 fruits mango, banana, jack fruit) was a never before ice cream flavour and extremely good too.

Amazing service, very good food for a foreigner, even tho a bit spicy. I ordered Veg Thali and it was very big, as you can repeat dishes. Nice variety to be able to try different dishes. The decoration is beautiful too!

Benjarong is a renowned Thai restaurant in Chennai, offering an extensive menu of authentic and delicious Thai cuisine. Named after traditional Thai porcelain, Benjarong has been a pioneer in bringing authentic Thai culinary traditions to the city since 2000. With ample seating, parking, and wheelchair access, it provides a comfortable dining experience for families or couples.

This Thai restaurant consistently delivers on quality, flavor, and hospitality, making every visit a delightful experience. Whether it’s a leisurely afternoon meal or a quick escape into authentic Thai flavors, Benjarong never disappoints. Their soups are an absolute must-try—warm, aromatic, and packed with depth. The Clear Dumpling Soup is especially comforting, with delicate, flavorful dumplings floating in a light yet deeply satisfying broth. If you’re looking for an authentic Thai dining experience in Chennai, Benjarong is an absolute must-visit! From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance set the perfect tone — warm, elegant, and welcoming. We tried a variety of dishes, and each one was outstanding: Phad Thai Veg Noodles (4.5/5): Perfectly balanced with just the right hint of sweetness and tang, cooked to perfection. Grilled Mushroom (4.5/5): Smoky, flavorful, and melt-in-the-mouth — a treat for mushroom lovers. Veg Spring Rolls (4.5/5): Crispy, light, and packed with flavor, served with a delicious dipping sauce. Rose & Lychee Ice Cream (5/5): A showstopper! Refreshing, fragrant, and absolutely divine — the perfect way to end the meal. And to top it all, the complimentary dish they served us was nothing short of extraordinary — a solid 10/5! It was a delightful surprise that elevated the entire dining experience. The service was warm, attentive, and thoughtful, making us feel truly valued. Overall, Benjarong goes beyond just serving food — it delivers an experience. Highly recommended for anyone who loves authentic flavors and exceptional hospitality. 🌸🍴 Note- Bill was lesser for us because there was some offer going on.

One of the best Thai restaurants that i have tried so far in chennai. Food was so great. Service was average as the staff seemed like they had a lot to handle. Great place for dining with family and friends. It's a bit on the pricier side but the experience is totally worth the cost. Everything had coconut milk or ground coconuts in it, it's too much coconut in one meal, even for South Indians 🤣 Parking is not that ample, you may have to find a street parking space in that busy road. I tried their Red curry with fish, the fish just melted in my mouth. Sticky rice with coconut pudding was out of this world. Must try this place.

Not too bad for authentic Thai food in Chennai. Price is on the high side in comparison to other restaurant. Khao Phad can be better with stronger fish sauce and wok flavour. Otherwise taste ordinary. Other dishes are ok.
