Marina Beach, a vibrant urban oasis located just 4 kilometers from Chennai Central Railway Station, is renowned for being the second longest beach in the world, stretching an impressive 13 kilometers. This bustling shoreline is a must-visit destination in Chennai, attracting tourists and locals alike with its lively atmosphere. As you stroll along the sandy expanse, you'll encounter kite sellers and cricket enthusiasts mingling with families enjoying quality time together.
Beautiful place , Location, View Point, It is so Amazing we had enjoyed a lot. With being longest coastal areas. We have walked a very long distance in the coastal lines to enjoy the view from different parts.
Binoy M — Google review
Where nice place for shopping, fast foods and peaceful stroll at shore. But have to be careful about the waves, there is no lighting or guards at the shore. And the shore is too far from the road, so ppl are scattered at the shore. Be careful- especially with children.
Ujjwaal G — Google review
Marina Beach is the perfect spot for both family outings and moments of peaceful relaxation. Early mornings here are calming, with beautiful sunrises and cool breezes making it ideal for a peaceful walk or some quiet time. In the evenings, the beach becomes lively and is great for families, children have ample space to play, there are fun rides, and the festive atmosphere is wonderful. Transport to Marina Beach is very convenient, with easy access by metro, local trains, buses, autos, and cabs. The location is close to many parts of the city so reaching the beach is hassle-free. One of the highlights is the variety of delicious local snacks and food stalls. From crispy bajjis, sundal, and murukku to ice creams and fresh fruit, there is something for everyone. Many nearby restaurants and cafés offer both South Indian and multi-cuisine options, so it’s easy to find good food with a sea view. Marina Beach is well-maintained, and recent improvements have included better accessibility for everyone. Whether you want to soak in the sound of the waves, enjoy street food, or spend quality time with loved ones, Marina Beach never disappoints! Highly recommended for all ages.
ABHISHEK K — Google review
Marina Beach ranks first among the worst beaches in India. At least it is a beach that is not only difficult to get to, but also to see. There are people on the road, traffic in the evening, women are not there to change their clothes, to go to the beach you have to walk 1km on the sand. It is best for those who go on a tour to Chennai to avoid seeing a 100% clean beach. If you want to see it, it is better to look somewhere a little further away between Marina Beach and the Lighthouse
Ramesh B — Google review
A clean and serene beach of Chennai. It has a long coast line. I visited in day time in afternoon heat so couldn't enjoy the evening chowpatty food options and fun. The beach cleaning is actively going on.
Sarthak V — Google review
Weekend Trip Review: This location offers beautiful scenery and is a pleasant place to visit on weekends. However, significant improvements are needed in maintenance and hygiene. Despite these shortcomings, the overall beauty of the area makes it worthwhile.
Ajay C — Google review
The Blackpool of Chennai. It was a wonderful experience to visit the beach on the Diwali public holiday and seeing family and friends flock to the beach. Swimming is not advised due to the riptides but there is plenty to do from beach markets, makeshift fairgrounds, horse back rides and freshly cooked snacks (Id not recommend buying any if you're not local) As a foreign tourist you might get a lot of stares and selfies but just embrace it. Also expect alot of roaming cows and litter on the beach, so we opted to walk instead of perch but there were plenty of families setting out picnic blankets for the day.
James M — Google review
One of the longest beaches in the world, Marina is perfect for an evening stroll. The memorials of leaders like Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha add to its charm with their beautiful architecture. Well-maintained and truly iconic of Chennai.

Nestled within the sprawling 16-acre Pantheon Complex, the Government Museum Chennai is a treasure trove of art and history that dates back to its establishment in 1851. This museum features an eclectic mix of collections, including Indian art and sculpture, bronzes from the illustrious Chola Dynasty, and fascinating anthropological artifacts. Visitors can explore various buildings like the Museum Theatre with its stunning Italianate architecture and the Indo-Saracenic National Gallery of Art facade.
One of the second largest Museum in India , probably one of the oldest in the world. Huge collections of ancient civilizations but unfortunately some of them aren't maintained well is sad to know. I see only few are really making use of such a great place where it talks about Hindustan and we should really encourage them from my point of view Request Govt to promote such places wherever they can to attract the visitors Closed on Fridays but remain open on all other days They charge 50rs for adults and 250₹ for foreigners and additional 250₹ for camera or video which is expensive but ok
Venkatesh R — Google review
Egmore Museum is incredibly valuable for anyone interested in South Indian art, especially temple sculpture and bronzes. The depth of history, the level of craftsmanship (for example in Chola bronzes) is breathtaking. It gives a strong sense of continuity of art through centuries — Pallava to Chola to later periods. The museum doesn’t always match the potential of its collection in terms of how the works are presented, interpreted, and preserved. If these areas are improved — lighting, protective display, better signage, more artefacts visible — it could be world-class.
Krishna K — Google review
2nd oldest museum in India & many sections make it feel so. The ticket costs ₹50 and the entry comprises of 6 sections across several buildings. The corridors are huge and very high ceilings make it more majestic. The exhibits are comprehensive with pre historic - colonial. The must see are the Raja Ravi Varma paintings. The Indus Valley Civilization section. Half day to a full day leisure will be the time needed to cover the entire museum. Some buildings are poorly maintained with no lights and ventilation. Otherwise, this museum is extremely enriching & unique.
Dr. B — Google review
Very large site and the separate exhibition spaces are very spread out. The building and exhibition rooms are in disrepair but the facade of the building is very impressive Personally I liked the statues, (date ordered), the coin collection, the selection of cannons, the huge copper writing plates, really cool foreign money used in India including an explanation of the origin of paper money which began in Sweden. The whale skeleton hanging from the ceiling was alao impressive but many of the exhibits in the taxidermy section were in a poor state. You can spend a good 2-3hrs there. Rp 250 for foreigners and Rp 250 for camera usage
Simon R — Google review
Excellent museum!!! However, maintenance is lacking. There are 9 themed permanent exhibition halls spanning multiple floors. It took me 4.5 hours to walk through all the exhibits with minimal photography and reading comments. The museum is highly educational with lots of data that can be useful for researchers and educationalists. The buildings need maintenance and the exhibits need thorough cleaning. Some of the exhibits lack descriptions and the audio guide was not working at all. From what I understood from foreigners, there is no way to understand the regional and Indian exhibits, especially the religious exhibits from 12-15th century. Also there was no clear path to take while visiting each gallery. There is a chance that people can miss certain galleries due to this. Entry ticket: Rs. 50 Toilet: Available (not that clean) Canteen: minimal canteen available (only fried rice was available when I visited) Note: 9 exhibition halls available (ask staff for directions)
Abey J — Google review
My visit to the Government Museum in Egmore, Chennai, was a journey through time, housed within stunning Indo-Saracenic architecture. The complex, a peaceful green space in the city, immediately impressed me with its heritage ambiance. The absolute highlight was the Bronze Gallery, where the sheer artistry of the Chola bronzes—especially the cosmic dancer, Nataraja—was mesmerizing. I spent a long time in the Archaeology section, viewing the ancient Amaravati Buddhist sculptures and the prehistoric artifacts from Adichanallur. It was fascinating to discover that the museum holds the largest collection of Roman antiquities outside of Europe, a truly unique aspect. While the vastness of the collection means some older galleries could use updating, the experience was incredibly enriching, offering a deep and tangible connection to the history and cultural legacy of South India.
Easu — Google review
The place is full of history, culture, and art from ancient sculptures and artifacts to natural history exhibits. The architecture itself is beautiful and adds to the charm. A must-visit for anyone interested in learning about India’s rich heritage.
Priyanka S — Google review
The place is well maintained few of their sevices are under maintenance request the museum incharge to look on it. Functional chair which helps the physically challenged and elderly person is more appreciable. I even noticed their bus in a pathetic situation which needs some attention. This place is informative and it is also provide us with lot of knowledge about our own precious history.

The Madras Crocodile Bank Trust and Centre for Herpetology is a remarkable destination in Chennai that combines wildlife conservation with education. Established in 1976 by the dedicated conservationists Zai and Romulus Whitaker, this facility serves as both a crocodile sanctuary and a breeding center, housing over 2,400 reptiles.
For those with an interest in wildlife and conservation, the Madras Crocodile Bank is a worthwhile and educational destination. It offers a unique opportunity to see a wide array of reptile species, learn about important conservation efforts, and enjoy engaging activities like the night safari. While not a full-day commitment, it is an excellent stop for families traveling along the ECR, especially when combined with other nearby attractions like Mahabalipuram. Highlights and attractions Vast reptile collection: The park houses a large collection of reptiles, including over 15 species of crocodiles and alligators from around the world. You can see endangered species like the saltwater crocodile and gharial. Other species: Beyond the crocodilians, the park features a variety of snakes, turtles, tortoises, and lizards. A separate area is dedicated to snakes, including venomous and non-venomous types. Underwater gharial exhibit: A unique feature allows visitors to see a magnificent gharial swimming effortlessly in a large underwater enclosure with other fish and turtles. Feeding sessions: The park offers feeding demonstrations. On Sunday afternoons, you can witness the feeding of "Jaws III," one of the largest saltwater crocodiles in India. Night safari: For a thrilling experience, the night safari on weekends lets you see the reptiles when they are most active. You are given torches to spot the hundreds of glowing red eyes in the dark. Snake venom extraction: This process is demonstrated by the Irula tribe, providing insight into how venom is collected for producing anti-venom medicines. Guided tours: Knowledgeable guides share interesting stories and facts about the reptiles. Virtual Reality (VR) shows: On weekends and holidays, you can experience VR movies that transport you to the natural habitats of reptiles around the world. Ideal for children: The Croc Bank is particularly popular with families and school groups, as kids enjoy seeing the reptiles up close in a safe environment. Good for short trips: While some reviewers feel the entry price is high for a relatively short visit, most agree it's a good place to spend an hour or two. Well-maintained enclosures: The enclosures are designed to mimic the animals' natural habitats, allowing for safe and close-up viewing. Amenities: The facility includes a canteen for refreshments, a gift shop for souvenirs, and clean washrooms. However, some older reviews noted that toilets were not well-maintained. Accessibility: Located on the ECR, the park is easily accessible by car, bus, or auto-rickshaw. Paid parking is available.

Worth the visit 👍🏼 kids had a great time. An impressive variety and number of crocodiles, and the snake show was also good. The guys milking the snakes are polite and patient and when they see interest in the audience they start explaining everything about the snakes with enthusiasm. Kids will be fascinated. The cleanliness was good, can be better. There was no foul smell anywhere when we went , it’s a nice place for few hours outing with kids.

Wow! The crocodile park is super cool! You can see so many big, sleepy crocodiles and alligators just hanging out. Some are hiding in the water, and some are sunbathing. It's like a big home just for them! It's a super fun place to visit and see these awesome creatures up close.

The Madras Crocodile Bank Trust and Centre for Herpetology is a must visit place near Chennai if you’re interested in wildlife and conservation. The facility is well-maintained and houses a wide variety of crocodiles, alligators, gharials, turtles, snakes, and other reptiles. It’s not just a tourist attraction but also an educational and research center dedicated to preserving endangered species. The guided tours and interactive sessions are informative, especially the snake and crocodile talks where the staff explain about their habitat, behavior, and conservation efforts. The night safari is also a unique experience. The place is green, peaceful, and provides a natural environment for the animals. Tickets are reasonably priced, and the money goes towards maintaining the animals and research work. A great spot for families, kids, and anyone curious about reptiles. Highly recommend visiting if you’re in Mahabalipuram or Chennai.

The Madras Crocodile Bank Trust and Centre for Herpetology is a fascinating destination, especially if you’re interested in reptiles. The variety of crocodiles—from massive saltwater crocodiles to rare gharials—and the impressive collection of snakes make the visit truly engaging. Informative displays help visitors learn about reptile conservation and the unique behaviors of these creatures. It’s both educational and thrilling, making it a must-visit for families, students, and anyone curious about wildlife.

A fantastic place to visit in Chennai. The team at snake park does a good explanation about the different types of snakes . The team also did a splendid job in explaining the reason the do and donts of how to handle snake in your vicinity. There are variety of crocodile 🐊 in the park . They are kept cool by sprinkling water on them . The park is well organised and well shaded . It’s a good evening get away for the kids . Overall a great experience.

A great place for kids to explore and enjoy watching crocodiles and other reptiles. The park has a clean restroom and a canteen for snacks. It’s educational and fun, but some areas need better cleaning. Overall, a good family outing spot with basic facilities and lots to see.

Madras crocodile park has good collection of different kinds of crocodile 🐊. It also has lot of tortoises and turtles, snakes and other reptiles. Recommended for kids especially. We can spend an hour time . There is a snake venom extraction centre too inside which is separately chargeable. Entry ticket for adult is 100rs which is too much. Decent spot to visit for weekend.

Zoo

Arignar Anna Zoological Park, located in Vandalur just 32 kilometers from Chennai, is a sprawling haven for wildlife enthusiasts and families alike. Covering an impressive 1260 acres, it stands as the largest zoo of its kind in Southeast Asia. This remarkable park features expansive natural enclosures that allow visitors to observe a diverse array of flora and fauna up close. With around 138 species on display, including both endemic and exotic animals, it's truly a paradise for nature lovers.
I recently visited the zoo, and it was a wonderful experience. The place is well-maintained with clean surroundings and clearly marked pathways, making it easy to navigate. The variety of animals is impressive — from majestic lions and playful monkeys to colorful birds and reptiles. Each enclosure is spacious and designed to resemble the animals’ natural habitat, which shows the effort put into their care and comfort. The staff were friendly and informative, always ready to answer questions. Educational boards near each enclosure provided useful details about the species, which made the visit not only fun but also very informative. Facilities like restrooms, food stalls, and seating areas were clean and accessible. It’s a great spot for families, especially children, as it’s both entertaining and educational. Overall, the zoo offers a perfect balance of conservation, education, and recreation. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys spending time with nature and wildlife.

Arignar Anna Zoological Park (Vandalur Zoo) - a day well spent! I visited this sprawling zoo with my family, and we had a roaring time (pun intended). The highlight was definitely the Bengal tiger- those piercing eyes and majestic stripes left us in awe. We also spotted a rare white tiger, which was a treat. The lion enclosure was impressive, with the kings of the savannah lazing in the sun. The Indian bears were adorable, playing around. The giraffes were another favorite, with their long necks and gentle eyes. We enjoyed watching them roam. The peacocks were a sight to behold, spreading their vibrant feathers in a stunning display. The cassowari, with their unique casques, were an interesting sight. The zoo is spread over a vast area, with plenty of greenery and naturalistic enclosures. It's a great place to spend a day with family and learn about wildlife conservation. Overall, a fun and educational experience! 4.5/5 stars. Highly recommended for families and wildlife enthusiasts!

Visited Arignar Anna Zoological Park (Vandalur Zoo) recently and it was an amazing experience! The zoo is huge, very well maintained, and has a great variety of animals. We really enjoyed the lion safari and deer safari totally worth it! 🦁 🦌 Yes, the ticket prices felt a bit on the higher side, but considering the size and upkeep of the zoo, it's completely justified. A perfect place to spend a day with family or friends. Full paisa wasool experience! 👍🏻 ✨✨
BIKASH — Google review
The Vandalur zoo is a very vast area. The number of animals, when we went with family during a weekday, were less. I understand that this is a very old zoo but it is not properly maintained. There are not many indications about which way we have to go (if you are planning to take the cycles or go by walk). The is a tour available in buggy but they just drive through. Many animals shelters are poorly maintained. There is only one restaurant which provides food during lunch. The quality is questionable, but no other choice. Own food also is not allowed inside. Get plenty of water if you are walking in the zoo. There are kiosks were water bottles are available but we need to return them intact (not to crushed, no stickers to be removed, etc) if we need to get the deposit amount for the water bottles. Again hygiene of these water bottles is questionable. One good use of technology is in buying tickets. Instead of waiting in queues to buy tickets, we can scan QR code to get the tickets in WhatsApp.

A great zoo to visit!!! Entry ticket: 200/person Electric vehicle fees: 150/person Deer and Lion safari: 150/person A great zoo with lots of animals. Each animal has ample space for roaming around owing to large enclosures. There are toilets and drinking water at regular intervals of time. The no plastic policy is also highly recommendable, especially since there are free animals like deer roaming around the park. Modes of travel inside the park: 1. Walking (will take around 4 hours to walk around the whole park) 2. Cycles 3. E-bike 4. E-carts (park is divided into zones. The cart will take you from entrance to first zone and the let you off. You can roam around till whenever you need and the go to the pickup point. The e-carts will pick you from this pickup point and transfer you to the next point and so on. Also note that this mode of travel will not cover all animals, especially those that are between zones during transit). There are also small shops selling cold as well as hot drinks and snacks. I recommend going to the safari after visiting the zoo because the safari bus is air conditioned and helps you cool off a bit before leaving the park. However, the safari was not as good. There were three lions near an enclosure and some deer.
Abey J — Google review
I recently visited Vandalur Zoo in Chennai, and my experience was quite disappointing. While the zoo is known to be one of the largest in India, the way it is maintained does not reflect that reputation. The first and most concerning aspect was the condition of the animals. Many of them looked weak, tired, and starved, which was heartbreaking to see. A zoo is meant to be a place where animals are cared for and preserved, but here it felt like their health and well-being were being neglected. For a ticket price of ₹200 per person, I had expected proper facilities and better standards of maintenance. Instead, I found poorly maintained enclosures and animals that did not appear to be receiving the nutrition and care they deserve. What makes it worse is that the zoo constantly advertises the “Adopt an Animal” program everywhere, which sounds good in theory, but when you see the condition of the animals, it feels like little is being done to actually benefit them. In my opinion, this is not just about visitor experience, but also about animal rights. The way these animals are being kept raises serious questions about whether their basic needs are being met. As visitors, we do not expect luxury, but we do expect to see healthy animals being treated with dignity and care. Unless the zoo focuses more on the welfare of the animals, I would not recommend visiting, as it feels neither worth the money nor ethically right.
Bhanupratap S — Google review
The zoo is great overall! Though I would never recommend the lion safari (it's a scam and not worth the extra money). Instead you can take the pass for the club car or bicycles to move around the zoo with ease.

B.M. Birla Planetarium is a modern facility located within the Periyar Science and Technology Centre campus at Kotturpuram. It offers visitors a virtual tour of the night sky and hosts astronomy shows on its specially perforated hemispherical aluminum inner dome. The planetarium features 360-degree theater for an immersive experience. Additionally, it has 8 galleries with over 500 exhibits showcasing various aspects of science and technology.
Maintaintained very well. ₹30 for parking car. Entry fee, package is best. For adult ₹100 per person, ₹50 per kid, kids will love 3D show and planetarium show. Sphere show is nice, My kids enjoyed mirror house, and maths wing. Calculate your weight on another plant is also good. It's raining today. But it won't affect any show. When I visit here play areas are sourrounded by water. So can't able to enjoy slides and swings. We missed it. Totally my kids enjoyed here. Worth visiting.

It was awesome visiting this place with the kids! Totally recommend it. Grab the combo ticket and check out the three amazing shows. Adult tickets are ₹60 and kids' tickets are ₹30 for the planetarium, science center, and 3D show package. "Science on Sphere" is ₹20 for adults and ₹10 for kids. The Planetarium can show all kinds of celestial movements. They use special projectors to make the astronomical stuff look incredible on the dome. Popular exhibits include the Solar System, stars, seasons, comets, and the moon landing. There's also a cool DRDO pavilion. The "Dawn of the Space Age" show is a mind-blowing Mirrordome+ experience – super realistic space travel visuals.

Children's park is free of charges. For planetarium charges above 12 years of Rs. 80 and below 12 years Rs.40. Car parking Rs. 20. 3D show is amusing and the planetarium gives good knowledge about the universe too the children. Nearly maintained. Children can spend hours here.

Excellent place to visit in the heart of the city specially along with kids. Very informative. 3d show, spherical show, evolution garden were great. Price is very decent.
Rupchand J — Google review
Birla Planetarium is located right in the heart of the city. It’s a quiet place with plenty of parking available in front. The ticket prices are very reasonable – **INR 100 for adults and INR 50 for children** covers the entire package (Planetarium show, entry, 3D show, and Sphere show). There’s also an option to buy a **basic INR 35 ticket** for only the Planetarium show. The campus is not very large, so walking inside is easy. At the entrance, you’re greeted by an **old fighter jet (HAL HF-24 Marut)**, an **old steam locomotive**, and a **model of the GSLV rocket**. There’s also an **evolution park (Dinosaur World)**, but unfortunately, like the science and industrial play areas for kids, it isn’t well maintained. The **real highlight is inside** – the Planetarium and the Science Exhibition Centre. Clean washrooms are available outside, and there are gift, souvenir, and toy shops inside. Food options are limited to a small snack counter selling tea, coffee, and light snacks, so it’s best to carry your own lunch if you plan to spend the full 5–6 hours here. Do note that food and water bottles are not allowed inside the Planetarium show, but they can be deposited at the front desk. **Science & Exhibition Centre:** * **Ground Floor:** * DRDO Gallery (models of tanks, battle equipment, and Tejas aircraft) * Hall of Nuclear Power (detailed displays on nuclear power generation) * 3D Show (10-minute dinosaur world movie with 3D glasses – very exciting for kids) * **First Floor:** * Oceans Gallery * Mirror House (fun for kids with mirror illusions) * Indian Space Gallery (models, information on ISRO projects, and a live quiz show) * Ramanujan Mathematics Gallery (interactive experiments) * Heart Museum (hearts of different animals preserved in jars) * Science on a Sphere (visual science show on a spherical display) **Planetarium Show:** The absolute **star attraction** – a 20-minute immersive journey through space, stars, the Sun, Moon, and other planets. Truly fascinating, especially for children. ✨ **Overall:** Birla Planetarium is highly educational and an excellent place for kids interested in science, space, and technology. While the outdoor exhibits and some galleries could use better maintenance, the Planetarium and Science Centre make the visit absolutely worthwhile.

Great place for families, couples and friends. Crowd control was good. Kids will definitely enjoy. But poor safety measures. Especially the ray fish sections. Parents keep your kids with you all the time.,

My friends and I had a great time at VGP Universal Kingdom! Although some of the main rides were under maintenance due to recent incidents, the experience was still amazing. A few new rides have been opened, and they were absolutely thrilling. The highlight of our visit was the wave pool — the DJ kept the energy high, and we spent most of our time enjoying the waves and the water rides. Overall, a fun and refreshing day!.

VGP Kingdom is a nice place for family and friends to enjoy. The park has good rides, water games, and a beach area also. Entry fee is a little high but worth it if you plan for full day. Food options are there inside but bit costly. For kids, lot of fun rides available and safe. Evening time the park looks more beautiful with lights. Overall a good spot in Chennai for one day outing and entertainment Swimming pool waves are all nice to enjoy with music and songs, rain dance , some of ride are not working. Oveall 4 to 5 rides are enjoyable. Food is too much cost and not worth for the money.

“Went to MGM with friends on Oct 4 using the offer price of ₹589 (it ended on Oct 5). Had an amazing time — all the rides were open and the evening foam party was super fun! The crowd was a bit higher than usual, but overall it was a great experience!”

Good place to hang out with friends and families. Sometimes offers might be there in their site so check it once before going directly to ticket counter for buying tickets. They have normal ticket (need to wait if crowded) and priority pass ticket (no waiting in queue) Plenty of parking spaces available but it is 200m away from entrance. For car -100rs and bike it’s 50rs as parking fee. Good adventurous rides are available like ranger, roller coaster, water coaster, etc. Swimming pool, wave pool, waterfall, rain dance floor are available to have fun. Wave pool is small when compared with other theme park. If you are going with girl child or girls then be safe since everyone is enjoying in pool. I don’t think, there is a separate pool for kids & women. By evening time there will be a dance floor lightening with few dancers and anyone can go and dance with them if you want.
Prashanth R — Google review
This place is on the ECR and on the main road. People coming from north Chennai, should be starting early. I advice people to be here @10 am sharp to start early and enjoy all the rides. That too on weekends it is highly crowded and you have to wait at least 30 mins for each ride. Area of this place is not huge to cover it as like queensland. All rides are enjoyable with friends and family. Canteen is available here, no outside foods are allowed here. Prices of food is ok. Quality and quantity also ok. Few rides are really mind blowing and thrilling experience. Water games are always best in MGM. So start early and enjoy all the games till the evening. Auto or cab from here to return home may be very costly. So plan it accordingly.

One of the best theme parks in Chennai. Awesome rides with a well organized water park. Food and eateries are decent, skill games, and fancy stores are also around. My favorite was the roller coaster, the RANGER and adult slides in the water park. Awesome experience.

Cost of ticket for adult - 1250₹ For child - 825₹ Car parking is the opposite side of the- 100₹ for car Since it was last few days before the school start, we decided to go have some fun. It was not much crowded. Didn’t wait in queue to sit on any ride. All ride were functional and we were able to go multiple times in each ride. Kids enjoyed too since it was their first time. Water park was also wonderful. Wave poll, rain dance and kids area in the pool were too much fun. Lockers are available there to keep your stuffs and enter the pool. Food and water are available inside to purchase. Food is not as expensive as I expected, 80₹ for veg fried rice, 40₹ for orange juice etc. It was ok.

All ride is very good Water ride also so good The water chloroform is just highI had such a blast at the amusement park 🎢! All of the rides were seriously amazing, I couldn't get enough of the thrills. The water rides were also a highlight, especially on a hot day 🌞. I felt refreshed and excited all at once while enjoying the water rides. However, I noticed the water's high level of chloroform, which was a bit concerning. I hope the park takes steps to ensure the safety of the water for everyone 💧. #AmusementParkFun #WaterRides #SafetyFirst

It definitely is not worth the price at all. There are very few rides that an adult would enjoy for the price we pay. If you have been to Wonderla, this is ten times a downgrade for the high price of a ticket. In terms of dry rides, Queensland is better and cheaper. And don't even ask me about water rides; only one was functional when I went. You can definitely have fun if you go as a gang, but I would personally save up some money and time and visit Wonderla for a fulfilling adventure park fun time with friends.

Edward Elliot's Beach, also known as Besant Nagar Beach or Bessie, is a popular destination in Chennai. Named after British explorer Edward Elliot, this beach is renowned for its clean shoreline and tranquil atmosphere. Surrounded by lush tree growth and offering a peaceful environment with fewer crowds, it provides a serene escape for tourists seeking natural beauty and quietude. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls along the sandy shore while feeling the cool water and warm sand beneath their feet.

Great beach near Besant nagar. Very peaceful. If you're taking a car only early mornings are recommended. Evenings are livelier, with lots of activities, food and entertainment. But you can't park your car if you go later than 4.30pm. Bike or public transport is recommended in the Evenings. There are a lot of eateries around.

Visited this Elliot beach near Besant Nagar in the evening. Since the place was too crowded and cleanliness was poorly managed, I felt bad as the beach cleanliness should be citizens responsibility. Near shore it's always beautiful.nearby restaurants are available and you can reach here by auto, taxi or self. Parking availability seems tough.

Visited Edward Elliot's Beach in the morning — it's very close to the IIT Madras campus 🏫🌊. The place was less crowded and offered a soul-soothing experience 🌅. The soft light of sunrise looked truly beautiful ✨, and the fresh, crisp air carried a mild scent of the sea 🌬️🌺. The beach was calm and peaceful 🧘. Walking barefoot on the cool, damp sand felt grounding and refreshing 🏖️👣. It’s the perfect spot to relax, reflect, or simply enjoy the serene beauty of nature 🌿💭. There are plenty of shops along the shore 🛍️, hinting that the evenings here must be lively and vibrant 🎉🌆.

It's my all time favorite beach. Less polluted when comparing to marina beach. Lot of food shops available, for dis-abled person's government arranged wooden ramp upto beach area. So they can also enjoy the beach completely. Old peoples also can walk over it to avoid the walk on sand

This is a very beautiful beach in Chennai City. The beach is more clean compared to Marira Beach but still there is a lot of garbage dumped here. If we clean this place, this can be one of best and most beautiful beaches in the region. Lots of shops and garbage being left on the beach is really painful to see. However, the view and the experience is very nice and wonderful. I really hope people keep this clean and this becomes one of best and most beautiful beaches in the city.

Specialty Museums
Fort St. George Museum, established in 1644, is the first British fortress in India and a significant historical site in Chennai. The museum boasts over 3000 antique artifacts from different periods of modern history and is divided into three floors with ten galleries. Visitors can explore indigenous weapons, a diverse collection of armors, shells fired during World Wars I & II, British Army uniforms, and porcelain articles used during the East India Company era.
It was a really interesting experience walking through both Indian and British colonial history. The museum is actually inside an old British fort, which adds to the whole vibe. We were especially amazed by all the stuff they had on display—things like old weapons, coins, uniforms, documents, and even furniture from the British times. Security check up would be there. One can book tickets at the entrance of the museum through QR code.(20 ruppes per adult). Just a reminder. It's a bit hot indoors. Also it's only open till 5 pm.

Fort St George Museum – A Gateway to Colonial Chennai. A fascinating journey into Chennai’s colonial past—rich in artefacts, art, and historical significance. Filled with galleries showcasing weaponry, coins, uniforms, paintings, documents, and even the first Indian flag hoisted after Independence, the Fort Museum brings history to life through thoughtfully curated exhibits. The museum is housed in a charming 18th-century structure that once served as the Madras Bank and the Exchange Hall. Upon entering, you’re greeted by a striking marble statue of Lord Cornwallis—an iconic landmark and conversation starter. Ground floor features armaments and porcelain; an upper floor displays portraits, medals, and coins; and the top floor houses the Indian national flag hoisted after Independence. Well-preserved galleries, especially the detailed craftsmanship on artifacts and colonial ephemera. The museum can feel quite warm, especially on hot days. Fans are few and spaced out. Entry ticket can be booked through online link, via QR codes only, at the entrance. Since the museum lies within a government compound, anticipate police screening. Carry a valid ID. Open from 9 AM to 5 PM. Entry Fee: Rs.20 per head. Bring water, there are limited facilities inside. St Mary’s Church (“Westminster Abbey of the East”) is worth exploring too. Nice place to spend 1 to 2 hours with family. Children might enjoy the artifact's. Free Car parking available across the main road.

Museum inside St. George Fort, Chennai containing all the British era historical artifacts that were preserved. A nominal Rs.20 digital ticket needs to be booked which goes to the government. It's worth of you're a history nerd & want to see the artifacts with your own eyes instead of just reading about it in the books. The data there will satisfy your historical curiosity and increase your knowledge for sure.

This was probably one of the best and most memorable museums I've ever visited. This is definitely an unforgettable experience for my trip to Chennai. Looking at the paintings (that I saw on YouTube) in real life is just mesmerising. I couldn't bring myself to move away from the painting exhibit. The firearms, coins and plates, etc., were also fascinating. But, the paintings were the main highlight. If you're in Chennai, DO NOT MISS THIS.

We came by train to the Fort St George stop but you can't enter from there so have to go all the way round to tbe opposite side. The foreigner fee to enter is Rp250 but you can't pay cash, so you have to scan the QR code and pay by credit card, which might not be easy. After your inside.... you can wonder round and we exited by the Fort St George station The church was all locked up on Sunday unfortunately. The museum was very good, with mortar cannons, old medals, uniforms, a whole room of massive portraits of British kings / Queens and local dignitaries (British and indian) rifles, coins over the ages and other stuff. Well laid out and not crowded

The seat of Madras Presidency! While most of the British era building are now govt offices.. this one is a museum! Gives a peek into the happenings of Madras presidency & it's aftermath. It houses busts of Viceroys and Guv-Generals, coins of that era, cannons, portraits and paintings of places around Chennai. Never miss the display of the "Oldest preserved National Flag" which was hoisted in 1932. It's amazing! Carry an ID card for security clearance and the place to close to Broadway bus station and well connected by public transport.

This beautifully maintained green oasis features eight distinct sub-gardens, an artificial duck pond, and ample open seating areas perfect for events or leisurely strolls.
One of the Best Places to Unwind in Chennai This serene and beautifully maintained spot in Chennai offers excellent accessibility, making it convenient to reach from any part of the city. It’s a perfect destination to spend quality time with family or to enjoy a peaceful moment alone. The calm atmosphere truly soothes the mind and helps you relax. The space features luxurious landscaping with ornamental plants, adding to its charm and aesthetic appeal. The restrooms are clean and well-maintained, ensuring a hygienic experience for all visitors. With nominal entry fees, it’s a value-for-money escape within the city. It’s also a fantastic location for photoshoots with your near and dear ones, thanks to its scenic setting and elegant backdrops. The atrium provides a great venue for hosting small events or performances, making it not just a place to unwind—but also to create beautiful memories.

Despite the number of visitors, the place felt neglected and did not live up to the hype. The entry fee of ₹75 for adults feels overpriced considering the current condition. The garden might look beautiful during specific flower festivals, but on regular days it lacks proper upkeep and does not justify its reputation. Needs much better maintenance to truly match the expectations set for a botanical attraction.

Semmozhi Poonga (Botanical Garden), Chennai A refreshing green spot in the city with a wide variety of trees and flowers. There’s a play area for kids, plenty of benches to sit and relax, and the garden is also popular with couples. The floral clock is the main attraction here, and the animal figures made with wire add a creative touch. Entry is ₹75 per person, parking is good, and it’s a nice place for photography or a peaceful walk. Overall, a decent garden to spend a couple of hours, especially with family or friends.

The Entry Ticket for an Adult is 75 Rupees .. We were visited in the morning 🌄.. But, I would prefer to visit this place in the Evening 🌆✨. Because the lighting setup is there. Because, there are a lot of places there for taking good photographs... Don't pluck any flowers 🌺, that's an offensive thing.. Maybe, eventually, you need to pay something.. Opposite this Semmozhi Park is the Kalaingar Century Park, which is good..But the high cost of entrance fee of Rs100 per adult and Rs 50 per child below 12yrs is only for entry.. Inside u have to buy separate tickets for Glass house, Bird park and Zip line.... The entrance ticket for bird park is Rs 150 for anyone and is too pricy for what it offers...You have to buy a separate ticket of Rs500 if u want to feed the birds.....This is atrocious..... This misty walk was a cooler to enjoy.

One of the very boring place situated in the heart of Chennai City. Don't ever expect anything before you go here. May be good for morning walks and for young umarried & married couples. There is a small kids play area. Very poor maintenance. Good space for bike & car parking. 20 & 100 rupees each. Entrace is ₹75 for adults which is very high for this zero attractive place. Good that we planned with family but ended up only 2 people. It takes exactly 7-10 mins to see the full park. Definitely not recommended.

Semmozi Poonga is best place for plant lovers. Earlier Woodlands drive-in restaurant is occupied then government converted into park and open to public in 2010. Madras War Cemetery, established by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, is a solemn site dedicated to honoring the fallen soldiers of East and South India from World War II. Similar to other Commonwealth cemeteries like Singapore's Kranji Cemetery, it provides a peaceful sanctuary despite its location alongside a bustling road. The well-maintained grounds and the Madras 1914-1918 War Memorial at the back stand as poignant reminders of sacrifice and valor.
Beautiful place with good , calm atmosphere... The grass are nicely trimmed have a nice appearance. Neat and tidy place without any single trash. Its a cemetery of the warriors who fought death in world war 1st . Its a good place for taking photographs and for spending time for our relaxation. Its having a beautiful view with lots of flowers and green arch... Its having no entrance fees.

The Madras War Cemetery is a solemn place dedicated to soldiers who lost their lives during the Second World War. It holds numerous graves that remind us of the sacrifices made in a war beyond anyone’s control. One drawback is that visitors are often not allowed inside, as it is managed directly by a private organization from England. Many times you may only be able to view it from the outside. It’s well-maintained and peaceful, but the limited access can feel a little disappointing. Overall, it’s worth a short visit if you’re passing by — you can take a quick look, click a photo, and pay your respects. Not a place that takes much time, but meaningful in its own way.

You can go there Nd sit for a long time and not notice the traffic noises! Definitely quite a wonderful place and must visit on any low days you have. Just get in there sit and it will soothe you!

Beautiful and serene place located along the Urban noisy road and dusty air. Entry is free! But when you are in the place you don't feel that it is located in a busy area, the environment is very clean and very well maintained. It is a graveyard of first and second world war civilians. The person who maintains the place is very friendly!!

Beautifully maintained ground. The grass well trimmed, hardly any weeds, beautiful flowers. Not a single piece of trash can be seen on the grounds. With Chennai dry and hardly any grass, this is a total contrast. It is not a huge area though. You probably can cover the whole area within 1/2 hour or so. If you are travelling a long distance just to visit this site, you may be disappointed.

One greenish and serene location amidst of Urban noise and dusty air. It will be really very calm that you would start feeling the silence. It is actually a memorial built for those who spared their blood in World War. If you just stay for a few minutes and stare at the cemetery, it would drag you to a some parts of history. Every stone there has a life and story behind it. It is very well maintained. The garden is exquisitely maintained well.

The Arulmigu Vadapalani Murugan Temple, nestled in the bustling Vadapalani area of Chennai, is a significant Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Murugan. Established approximately 125 years ago and renovated in 1920, this temple stands out for its stunning architecture and vibrant sculptures that captivate visitors. The temple features colorful gopurams and intricate designs that reflect the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu. It has become a popular venue for weddings due to its spiritual ambiance.
A very peaceful and divine place to visit in Chennai. The temple has a calm and positive atmosphere where you can really feel a sense of peace. It's well maintained and usually not too crowded during weekdays. A great place to sit, pray, and relax your mind. Definitely worth visiting if you’re nearby or looking for a spiritual break in the city.

Arulmigu Vadapalani Andavar Temple) is one of the most famous temples in Chennai.Temple is Known for granting success in exams, marriages, and career. Devotees believe Murugan here blesses those who sincerely pray with their wishes fulfilled. Temple was built around 19th century by Annaswami Nayakar, a devotee of Murugan who first worshipped a small picture of the Lord and later built the temple.Over time, the temple grew in prominence and is now one of the busiest temples in Chennai. The main deity is in a standing posture with one hand raised in blessing. There are shrines for other deities like Vinayagar, Shiva, Parvati, and other. Many couples choose to get married here because of the temple’s reputation for blessing marriages. Well maintained places in and around. You will get the good, positive vibrations once you entered the temple. We have visited during Navratri season the Golu arrangements and cultural performances were very good.

Arulmigu Vadapalani Murugan Temple (Chennai) is devotion with momentum—nadaswaram in the air, steady darshan lines, and the towering gopuram welcoming you from a distance. The sanctum feels powerful and unhurried; priests are courteous and guide first-timers through simple offerings. The campus is clean, prasadam counters run smoothly (pongal/laddu are worth it), and there’s shade to sit for a few quiet minutes even on busy days. It’s also a popular wedding temple, so you may catch a mandapam buzzing with ceremonies. Good to know: Tuesdays, Fridays, Kanda Sashti, and Thai Poosam draw big crowds—come early morning or late evening. Footwear counters are organized; photography is fine in outer prakarams (not inside the sanctum). Parking is tight around Arcot Road—Vadapalani Metro station is the easiest way in. Dress modestly and carry small change/UPI for archana tickets and prasadam. Tip: If you prefer a quicker darshan, ask at the counter for the special-entry line. Secret tip: Arrive just before opening time—the first deeparadhanai (“suprabhatham” vibe) is the calmest, most beautiful moment, with the Vel lit by lamps and hardly any crowd.

I visited this temple around 10:30 AM on a Thursday, and it was quite busy, which shows how much devotion people here have. Just before the main entrance, I noticed a small chapel stand, open for free to visitors. Inside the temple, there are multiple idols of different gods—it’s not dedicated to just one deity. The sculptures and architecture are truly impressive, reflecting the temple’s rich heritage, as it is said to have been constructed around the 8th century. I personally prefer old temples, and this one stands out with its intricate carvings and spiritual atmosphere. There is also a temple pond within the premises, which I couldn’t visit this time, but it adds to the traditional charm. For anyone interested in experiencing ancient temples with great sculptures and strong cultural significance, this temple is a must-visit. Accessibility is also convenient, as the Vadapalani Metro Station is nearby, making it easy for commuters.

Vadapalani Andavar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Muruga. It is located in Vadapalani, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is around 25 kms from Tambaram. The Moolavar (main deity) resembles the Palani temple idol and is in standing position. The temple courtyard houses several Sannidhis including that of Varasiddhi Vinayaka, Chokkanathar, Meenakshi Amman, Kali, Bhairava, Shanmuga with Valli and Deivanai. Some Divine Events have been described beautifully on the walls. The temple tank is in front of the temple.Only in this temple, one can see Murugan wearing footwear, a symbol that denotes shedding of arrogance. He is seen in a standing pose with his left foot forward to indicate he is in a rush to help his devotees.

Nestled in the vibrant city of Chennai, the Anna Centenary Library stands as a beacon of knowledge and innovation. This architectural marvel spans nine floors and is home to an impressive collection of over 1.2 million books, catering to diverse interests and age groups. With dedicated sections for Braille readers, children’s literature, and even digital resources, it truly democratizes access to information.
Visited here after a very long wait. The place looks majestic, beautiful and clean. It has 7 floors and each floor has different sections altogether. Aavin is placed inside the library’s ground floor. Students come here to prepare for their competitive exams. Only con is there are no enough plug points for laptops and restrooms could’ve been better. Overall a must visit place for all the book readers.

Top class among the ones available. Very organized. I used to spent good amount of time here. Laptops are allowed. Own books section is only at the ground floor level which is usually very demanding. The amazing fact of that is there are times that people were waiting on n queue for the reading room ( since you can take your own books ) since it is limited in capacity. Truly inspiring. One thing I look forward to is the updating of books with latest tech and other sections.

My experience : Membership - Lot of paper work . Be ready to carry photo copy of Aadhar, Photo and if student photo copy of the Student ID card. The entire process can be digitized using Aadhar Biometric verification for Indians. Even photo can be taken using Web cams or directly use the photo from Aadhar . Cumbersome process which could be completed in less than 2 mins using digital India initiative. Children’s Center - Lot of books for children. Nice collection but the place lacks organizing discipline. The staff was polite and helpful but I felt she was short handed due to the volume of people coming during the weekend. Overall great place for kids Infrastructure - Computers were not working, portal to search books was basic and could not search based on topics and. Sofa’s were well maintained and clean however a little extra care can be taken by patrons to respect the place . A social reinforcement would help especially with some volunteers. Printing - I couldn’t find any place for printing stuffs . Though I don’t expect free printing but there should be an option where people can send printing to a server and be able to print using UPI or Membership ID. Announcements : Public announcements were too loud and only in Local language.

The Anna Centenary Library is truly a delight for anyone seeking a peaceful and enjoyable reading experience. You can visit anytime and find a cozy spot to read for as long as you wish. What sets this library apart is its modern infrastructure, conveniently located in the heart of the city and easily accessible. The library boasts a vast collection of books, spanning seven floors that house various sections and numerous rooms. What more could one ask for? Not only students, but children and families can also benefit from the library’s offerings. There’s a dedicated kids' section and family memberships available at extremely affordable rates. The administration has done an exceptional job maintaining the library, and they deserve our appreciation! Let's applaud the vision behind starting such an incredible public institution in the heart of the city. This enormous structure with its modern facilities makes the library world-class, and Chennai should be proud of the Anna Centenary Library. Such vision and investment in public goods are crucial for developing human capital and strengthening India's intellectual capabilities. Indeed, it's a great place to visit for any book lover, student, research fellow, or anyone looking to engage in any form of study. Students preparing for competitive exams, in particular, should take full advantage of this fantastic infrastructure. This incredible library is my favorite place in the city. I've lost count of how many times I've visited over the years to enjoy delightful and engaging reading sessions. P.S. You can now borrow books through an inexpensive membership plan.

Every section is neatly arranged and catalogued. One can get lost in the knowledge that this place holds. And if you get hungry or thirsty from all the reading, there's an Aavin booth on the ground floor. Truly a world class space!

Located in Perambur, Chennai Rail Museum is a fascinating indoor and outdoor museum showcasing vintage engines, coaches, and miniature train rides. Opened in 2002 on a 6.25-acre site near Villivakkam, the museum boasts a rich rail heritage of India with an impressive collection of steam engines dating back to the British Raj era.
Great place to learn about the Heritage of Indian Railways. Recently maintained and well shaded place with lots of trees and lots of play areas. Given the heat the air conditioned model train room was such a relief. The entry ticket includes a short toy train ride around the entire facility which was a bliss. Kids will definitely enjoy but be mindful of the summer heat. There's lots of metal all around. The cafeteria is not operational but there is facility for drinking water.

A place to know about Railway coach manufacturing and its origin. Recommended place for students. The railway department can initiate more features to be more interactive and interesting to visitors. It has a restroom facility, kids play area, Toy train for a short joy ride. Entry fee (includes Toy Train ride) Children Rs 15/- Adults Rs 40/-. Worth a visit. Models created by the waste metal of the train is one good attraction.

We visited the Railway Museum recently, and it was a wonderful experience. The museum showcases very old railway engines and a lot of interesting historical facts about trains. There's also a toy train ride inside the museum, which made the visit especially enjoyable for children. A must-visit place in Chennai for both kids and adults!

I visited on a weekday morning with an entry ticket that included a free toy train ride. This place is a great spot if you're into trains. The Chennai Rail Museum has some really old trains and engines on display. I loved walking around and seeing all the vintage stuff, some of them are huge and really old, like from the British times. During my visit, many school students from different schools had come and they were really enjoying it a lot and super excited during the toy train ride. Even I enjoyed it. They also have a restaurant set up inside a train coach, but it was not open during my visit. Overall, it’s a calm and neat place to visit. If you're in Chennai and want to try something offbeat, this place is worth checking out.

We visited this place during public holiday and during heavy rain day. So there was no crowd at all we could enjoy the place at the maximum. In my opinion the Maintenance and the collections are very nice. There are many real models as well as mini models to get best experience. History of The ICF is very well portraited . The indoor exhibition as well as the outdoor exhibition was lovable. Toy train ride was ultimate. Also there is a an exhibition where you will find a miniature train model. Don’t miss to see that. It is located closer to Thai train station. I would say the places filmed. It is worth to visit it will take 2.5 hours to complete the tour. Me and kids enjoyed it very well. Thanks to Southern railway.

Could use lots of improvement!!! Chennai rail museum has both indoor and outdoor parts. The indoor museum is air-conditioned and has models of trains, photographs and various parts of the engine and compartment. This part is good. However, the outdoor part is less maintained. I personally feel that there is potential for immense maintenance for the engines and compartment. All the compartments could be improved so that people can go inside and visit. Also, indian railways with its immensely rich varieties of locomotives can add some more to the museum's collection. The grounds are overgrown with grass and has puddles of water making it difficult to go to various exhibits. Comparatively, the outdoor museum is filled with mosquitos. There is a small park for kids. The washroom needs regular cleaning. There is no canteen to buy food, however, an area for sitting and having food is arranged.

The Thousand Lights Shia Mosque, located in Royapettah, Chennai, is a significant historical site dating back to the early 1800s. It was built by the Wallajah family of the Carnatic rulers and features traditional Islamic architecture with five domes and two minarets. The mosque includes a spacious prayer hall for men and a separate area for women.
Very calm and soothing experience. It was very peaceful inside. The Shia mosque has historical significance. There is a library and cemetery in the mosque premises. There is no entry fee.
Steuben D — Google review
The Thousand Lights Shia Mosque, situated on Peter's Road in Royapettah, Chennai, stands as one of the city’s most iconic and historic religious landmarks. Its origins trace back to the early 19th century when Nawab Umdat-ul-Umrah of the Wallajah dynasty commissioned its construction on land previously used by Shia Muslims as a gathering place, especially during the month of Muharram. The mosque derives its evocative name from the tradition of illuminating its vast prayer hall with a thousand oil lamps, creating a mesmerizing spectacle that has become part of local legend. Architecturally, the mosque is a striking example of Indo-Islamic design, featuring multiple domes and tall minarets that rise prominently above the bustling Anna Salai area. The main prayer hall is spacious and adorned with Quranic inscriptions, while separate areas are designated for men and women. The mosque complex also includes a Dargah dedicated to Imam Hussain (Raziyallahu Anhu), the revered grandson of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, further enhancing its spiritual significance for the Shia community. The Thousand Lights Mosque is not only a vibrant center for daily worship but also a focal point during Muharram, when thousands gather to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain. The atmosphere during these observances is solemn, with the mosque beautifully lit and filled with the sounds of prayer and reflection. Visitors are welcomed, provided they dress modestly and observe the decorum expected in a place of worship. The mosque’s central location makes it easily accessible, and it remains open from early morning until late evening, inviting both devotees and those interested in its history and architecture to experience its unique ambiance. Beyond its religious functions, the mosque is a symbol of Chennai’s pluralistic heritage and serves as a reminder of the city’s deep-rooted connections to diverse faiths and traditions. Its enduring presence, historical roots, and architectural grandeur make it a must-visit for anyone seeking to understand the cultural and spiritual fabric of Chennai.

Another blessed place to visit. It was so peaceful and calm. The site is well maintained and clean. They have displayed the instructions to follow. Was decorated with lights all over the place and there is a historical significance for it running back to the times of the British.

A 200 year old mosque in the City. Though the name is Thousand lights mosque, it was a custom in the British era to lighten the mosque with oil lamps when electricity was not available. Possibly only one lamp can be seen now ( not quite sure) which might be used in that period. Cast iron columns and connecting design (that also of cast-iron) tie with huge bolts and nuts can make a visitor feel the actual weight of each part of interior. Domes are also in good shape and attractive. No fees. Better to take permission from the caretaker before going in.

Vivekananda House, formerly an ice store, is now a permanent exhibition showcasing the life of Swami Vivekananda. This marshmallow-pink pavilion served as a meditation space for the renowned monk during his stay in 1897. Located on Marina Beach Road in Chennai, it holds significance as one of the historical places in the city. Visitors can explore Swami Vivekananda's chambers and view exhibits featuring photos from his tours of America.
Vivekananda House is a must-visit heritage site in Chennai, rich with history and spiritual significance. The place beautifully preserves the legacy of Swami Vivekananda and offers a peaceful, inspiring atmosphere. The exhibits are well-organized and informative, showcasing his life, teachings, and his historic stay here. The meditation room is especially calming, perfect for quiet reflection. Located right by the Marina Beach, it’s a great spot for both tourists and locals who are interested in culture and philosophy. Highly recommended!

I recently visited Vivekananda House and had an inspiring experience. The place is well-maintained and beautifully showcases the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda. One of the highlights of my visit was the 4D VR show, which took us through Swami Vivekananda's powerful and spiritual journey in a truly immersive way. The visuals, sound, and storytelling were amazing—it felt like I was walking alongside him through different phases of his life, especially his journey to the West and his speech at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago. It gave me a deeper understanding of his vision, thoughts, and contribution to Indian philosophy. Overall, it's a must-visit place for anyone interested in history, spirituality, or just looking for inspiration. I left the place feeling motivated and proud of our rich cultural heritage.

Vivekananda House is located right opposite Marina Beach, so the road outside is usually busy — better to plan your visit accordingly. Inside, it’s a peaceful and well-maintained place. The highlights are: 1. VR photography with Swami Vivekananda — a nice experience. 2. Museum exhibits from the time of Swami Vivekananda’s visit in 1897, along with displays related to Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Hindu philosophy, and Indian culture. 3. Meditation hall, offering a calm and silent space. 4. 3D movie of Swami Vivekananda’s famous 1893 Chicago speech, which is presented very well. If you’re a follower of Vivekananda, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, or interested in their ideologies, this place will feel meaningful. Even otherwise, it’s a good museum-like experience and worth visiting at least once

Fabulous experience. INR 50 per head for the entire activity. Excellent conduct by staff. In this cost you will get a walk around,3D,VR presentations + meditation time. It’s a great place with high spiritual vibes. There is a Meditation room, a VR room where you can see Swami Vivekananda’s story till he went to Chicago. There is a 3D theatre which shows the Swami Vivekananda’s speech at world religious parliament in Chicago. You can feel Swamiji’s aura present in this room when you meditate. The entry ticket is only 50₹, which I feel is very nominal. Outside there is a book stall also they run few yoga and spiritual courses as well. You can see the Marina beach from the top floor. It has got a beautiful view. Had a great experience! I would highly recommend visiting this place.

Situated opposite to the Marina Beach. This is like a museum of Swami Vivekananda, where you can see the photos with the timelines of his life. Very neatly maintained. There are are couple of theatres inside the museum where his Chicago speech, his early life are been portrayed. It will take some time in order to visit the museum. There is also a mediation hall where you can sit and meditate which is described as the place where he used to meditate when he came to Chennai. They do have a bookstore where they sell his books. The ticket charges ₹50 per head. They will also take a photo free of cost and can be downloaded from the link they provide.

It is a really nice and peaceful spot. The distance from the sand to the sea is very short, so it's easy to reach the water. Compared to other beaches in Chennai, it's less crowded, which makes it perfect for relaxing. There are many shops around for snacks and drinks, so you won’t go hungry. One small concern is the number of stray dogs—it can be a bit uncomfortable at times. But otherwise, it's a great place to chill with friends and family on weekends.

Situated where the Thalankuppam River meets the sea, this pier is ideal for those seeking tranquility. It's perfect for romantic strolls with stunning views of the sea and refreshing ocean breeze. The area is known for its breathtaking sunsets, especially against the backdrop of a thermal power plant.
It’s a hidden gem near Chennai. The view of the refineries and factories, the sunset views in this place are awesome. This place is not for young kids and women’s since it’s little deserted and very less people visit here. I just saw few locals fishing here. My dear Drone Lovers…pls come and fly your drones here for an amazing videography and photography.

A quite place to have some time alone or with friends. Won't recommend for family since there is no proper walkway or place to sit or any shops nearby. It's a kind of isolated. Have to climb on large rocks to sit. This place is quite popular among anglers and you can see a lot of people enjoying fishing. Since there is a very low footfall, you can have a very relaxed atmosphere. The only sound you will hear is waves crashing onto rocks and occasional fishing boats going out to sea.

Such a beautiful serene place to experience sunrise. Quite the drive to get to the place. The roads around are well maintained and there is a shore to enjoy the beach as well. The place is rocky and not recommended for kids or the elderly. Does not require any trek of sorts.

Its one of the best places to spend the evening to witness some wonderful Sunset in Chennai. The Sunsets in the background of that Thermal power plant is an artistic view to watch. This place is highly recommend for boys as a group. After 5:30pm this place will be like an abandoned one, dark and lone place. So go with some safety precautions when u r going alone (Boys/Girls). When you are going in groups you can enjoy. Transportation : You have to take auto from the main road for around 1.5kms to reach this place, you will get autos frequently from bus stop to the destination but while return either u have to book auto or you have to walk.

The Broken Bridge in Adyar, Chennai offers a serene and romantic setting for witnessing the sunset. Unlike the crowded Marina Beach, this bridge provides solitude and stunning views of the sun sinking into the horizon. Situated at the mouth of the Adyar River near Theosophical Society forest, it is a popular spot for poetry lovers and amateur photographers. Despite its collapsed state since 1977, it remains an offbeat attraction that attracts couples seeking a unique and picturesque setting for a romantic rendezvous.
A nice place to visit to see the sun set. Reach here around 5.30 pm and wait till the sunset. You will love it. Not crowded. Peaceful. A little bit isolated. Better go with friends or family. You are not allowed onto the broken bridge. But can go around and under the bridge. Police CCTV surveillance is on.

Visit this place before 6pm. After that police won't allow public here for safety purpose. Also we can't climb over the bridge if we try that..there is surveillance camera by police. It starts to create warning sound if we go nearby to bridge/ try to climb on it or play in water. Camera is really working because when some school boys climb over bridge camera starts to create beep sound over long time and then police came and warned those school boys. This is same for both weekdays and weekends. Rather than this thing...this place is really nice to visit. It's free to visit this place. 10/08/2025.

Nestled in the vibrant locality of Triplicane, the Arulmigu Sri Parthasarathyswamy Temple is a stunning 8th-century marvel dedicated to Lord Krishna. This sacred site, revered as one of the 108 Divya Desams, showcases intricate carvings and majestic towers that reflect its rich heritage. The temple's name translates to 'the charioteer of Arjuna,' highlighting Krishna's pivotal role in the Mahabharata.
What a temple is this. Loved this. I went this weekend and found one of the beautiful temple. I feel that the temple needs so more cleaning and hygiene due to huge crowd and will work better than now. I really felt blessed to get a chance to visit these places. The only thing I found about the priests, they are always into rush in any famous temples. Even though less crowd they always ask devotees to go out as fast as they can. But if you see positive sides then one of the best temple to visit in Chennai. Lovely.
Being_Reviewer — Google review
The Parthasarathy Temple in Triplicane is one of Chennai’s most treasured spiritual landmarks. It is one of the 108 Divya Desams. Built in the 8th century by the Pallavas, this temple radiates divinity and preserves the city’s deep cultural and devotional heritage. The presiding deity here is Lord Parthasarathy (Krishna as the charioteer of Arjuna). Within the complex you’ll also find shrines of Yoga Narasimha, Lord Rama with Sita and Lakshmana, Lord Lakshmi Ranganatha, Lakshmi Varadaraja, Vedavalli Thayar, and the revered Alwars. The experience is like visiting multiple temples at once, each radiating its own unique energy. What to Expect: Atmosphere: Serene yet lively, with devotional chants and the fragrance of incense filling the air. Parking:Ample space is available for both 2-wheelers and 4-wheelers, which makes visiting convenient even during busy hours. Shops:Right outside the temple, you’ll find plenty of shops selling traditional items, including vastrams (clothes for vigrahas), flowers, and puja essentials—perfect if you want to take something back for your home deity. Photography:Do note that photography is not allowed inside the temple, helping preserve its sanctity. Nearby Attractions: The iconic Marina Beach is just about 700 meters away, making it easy to combine your spiritual visit with a walk by the sea. 🙏 The Parthasarathy Temple is a place of worship and journey into Chennai’s soul. Whether you are a devotee, a lover of history, or simply someone seeking peace, this temple is worth experiencing. ⭐ Recommended for: Families, devotees, history lovers, and anyone who wants to soak in authentic Chennai tradition.

Arulmigu Sri Parthasarathyswamy Temple – Triplicane, Chennai Visited this ancient temple in central Chennai and was deeply moved by its spiritual ambiance and rich heritage. Here's what stood out: History & Architecture One of Chennai’s oldest surviving temples, originally built by the Pallavas in the 6th–8th century, then expanded by the Cholas and later Vijayanagara kings . A proud Divya Desam, praised in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham by the Alvars . Features classic Dravidian structure: towering Raja Gopuram, ornate stone pillars, 36-pillared mandapam, and detailed carvings . Multiple Forms of Perumal Central shrine houses Lord Parthasarathy (Krishna–Charioteer of Arjuna), unique with a moustache (“Meesai Perumal”) and holding only a conch (no discus), believed to bear Bheeshma’s arrow scars from Kurukshetra . Other shrines honor Yoga Narasimha, Rama, Gajendra Varadaraja, and Ranganatha, making it a revered Panchamurthi sthalam . Meesai Perumal & Variants The moustached form is an iconic visual; during certain days of Vaikunta Ekadasi, he's shown without a moustache, symbolizing humility . The temple also includes a distinct shrine for Yoga Narasimha, with its own entrance and dhvajastambha . Prasadam The Ven Pongal served here is particularly sweet and rich, made with extra ghee and cashews—believed to soothe the deity's arrow wounds . Common temple prasadam like Puliyodarai is also loved by devotees . Location & Atmosphere Situated in the heart of Triplicane, just a few minutes from Marina Beach, yet it feels like a peaceful oasis . Real devotees comment on its positive aura, dedicated priests, and well-maintained grounds . Festivals & Events Major celebrations include Chittirai Brahmotsavam, Vaikunta Ekadasi, and the Masi (February–March) Theppam (float festival) in the temple tank . The annual Ramanujar festival is significant—legend says his father performed a Putrakameshti yagna here and received the blessing that Ramanuja would be born . Summary A divine blend of ancient architecture, living tradition, and deep Vaishnava devotion—this temple is high on my list for anyone seeking spiritual depth or historical richness in Chennai. The sight of Meesai Perumal, the serene tank, and the lusciously sweet prasadam make it unforgettable.

Thiruvellukani or Sri Parthasarathi Perumal Kovil is a magnificent ancient temple where Sri Krishna is worshipped as Parthasarathi - the Charioteer to Arjuna. Allikeni, refers to a pond full of lily! In a departure from other temple sculptures, the approximately 10 ft tall Idol of Parthasarathi often referred as Moolavar (Main dirty) inside the sanctum sactorum sports a moustache, which is unique to only this temple. In contrast, the Utsav moorti or the idol which is used to circumabulate the temple during poojas and special occasions, has a face marked with wounds made by the arrows during the 18 days kurukshetra or mahabharata war. One can see the consort of Parthasarathi- Sri Mahalakshmi, referred to here as Vedavalli Thayar. The temple was first built by the Cholas in the 6th century and subsequently other kings, added structures to the main temple. One can find sanctums for Sri Narasimhar, Sri Ranganathar, Sri seetha ramar, Sri thayar And Sri Anjaneya/ Hanuman. One must visit this temple to blissfully explore the magnificence and the divinity of Sri Krishna and Mahalaxmi.

It’s more like a small village than a museum. You get to walk through old South Indian style houses, see how people lived, and even try things like pottery and block printing. The place is peaceful with lots of trees and spots to sit, and the small shops have some good handmade stuff. It can get hot in the afternoon and a bit crowded on weekends, but if you go in the morning it’s a calm and enjoyable outing with family or friends

I recently visited the Dakshina Chitra Heritage Museum that offers a fascinating glimpse into the southern Indian region's rich cultural heritage and history. It was unique experience to explore the exhibits which reflected the ancient livelihood and evolution. You can get glimpses of each southern indian state how they used to live and and experience the culture and belives they follow though the exibits. From the household needs to vibrant textiles, the museum's collection is a treasure trove of artifacts that showcase the region's unique history. With 2-3 hours needed to fully appreciate each exhibit, I would recommend planning your visit carefully to make the most of your time. Unfortunately, my weekday visit coincided with a lull in visitors, resulting in some exhibits being closed and some LCDs/TVs being switched off. I guess there was one eatery inside which was also not functional at that time. Despite this, I appreciated the opportunity to explore the museum without the crowds. The shops inside displays a range of articles related to history and ancient lifestyles, making it easy to take a piece of the experience home. From antique artworks to handicrafts, the selection is thoughtful and well-curated. Overall, the museum was peaceful and good for anyone interested in history, culture, and the arts. It is located on the scenic East Coast Road near Chennai, is a living museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating South India’s rich cultural heritage. It features authentic replicas of traditional homes from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh, each filled with regional artifacts, crafts, and stories. Visitors can witness artisans at work, enjoy folk performances, attend workshops, and explore exhibits that bring centuries of art, architecture, and lifestyle to life in a serene, village-like setting.

Wonderful little place to visit. Lots of heritage and historical lessons to be learnt from here. The best part was the guy who was making things from glass. I got 2 cocktail stirrers and they were 150 rupees each. But so beautyand such detail made by a really nice man who talked us through how he does it and he'd been there in that same spot for 28 years, amazing!

It is an amazing place. You need atleast 2hrs-4hrs to tour this place. They have shown cultural homes from different south Indian states- Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra and Telangana that too of different communities. Tamil and Kerala area will consume most of your time. They have different activities such as Mehendi, pottery, painting, playing instrument for which you can pay and do the activities. The cost of these activities starts with ₹100 atleast. The fees of dakhshinchitra on weekends is a big more than weekdays. There are many opportunities to click amazing photos

Had a wonderful time here, great place to bring kids to learn about their cultural history from an architecture, interior design, and fabrics perspective. Lots to see and do. There is a cute cafe inside that offers a selection of South Indian snacks and fresh juices. I suggest bringing cold water or electric fans to keep you and any kids cool as the place is very hot during the day, and closes early in the evening. I wish they were open later in the day when the weather is cooler, or if they had more air conditioned spaces for people to rest.

It's museum where you can see different types of houses and cultures of southern states. It has one or two versions of the states, along with some other stuff like ecological and textile industry, pottery etc... They have mini activities such as painting, pottery and mehandi. And a kids playground. It'll take a solid 2-4 if you listen to the audio books and take your time with the sight seeing.

Though not as much big as Bangalore, it's a nice place to visit. Outside the temple people are literally throwing the plates, food wastes just like that. Kindly people visiting here keep the premises clean.

ISKCON Chennai also known as Sri Sri Radha Krishna Mandir is at Sholinganallur , Chennai. The temple is very big and it's very beautiful and if you visit during festivals like Janmastami, there will be huge crowd but the temple looks very beautiful with all the lightings and decoration, especially in the evenings. I used to visit the temple when I was chennai. During normal days and weekends , there won't be much crowd but during any auspicious days the crowd will be huge. The prasadam is good and you can also find books etc.,

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Queensland Amusement Park, and it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. The park itself is beautifully maintained, with vibrant colors and clean facilities that made me feel comfortable throughout my visit. There’s something for everyone here—whether you’re a thrill-seeker or just looking to relax and enjoy the scenery. The rides are absolutely top-notch. I had an exhilarating time on the roller coasters, and the family-friendly attractions were perfect for the little ones. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring that safety protocols were followed without compromising on fun. One of the highlights was the food options—plenty of delicious treats to keep us fueled for more fun. The park also offers great spots to take a break and enjoy some downtime, which was a nice touch. Overall, Queensland Amusement Park exceeded all my expectations. It’s a place where memories are made, and I can’t wait to come back again soon. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for an exciting day out!

“Visited Queensland Amusement Park this weekend with family. Rides are good and there’s something for everyone—kids, adults, water rides are clean and fun. The park is quite big, so come early if you want to try most rides before they close due to maintenance. Food is tasty but pricey inside. Toilets & dressing rooms could use better upkeep. Overall a good value for money outing. Would recommend for families!”

Best to visit on weekdays as there will be less crowd and can enjoy all rides without much waiting. Overall nice place with lots of tree cover. However can't say the rides are well maintained as I can see rust on many things making it but scary. Time to overhaul all rides. Water rides and pools are very good though.

Queensland Amusement Park in Chennai offers the perfect escape for families, friends, and thrill-seekers looking to enjoy an action-packed day. Spread across 70 acres of lush greenery, the park is well-maintained, spacious, and brimming with excitement at every corner. From the moment you enter, the vibrant atmosphere and friendly staff set the tone for an unforgettable experience. The park features a fantastic mix of high-adrenaline rides and family-friendly attractions. Highlights include the Free Fall Tower, Roller Coaster, Himalayan Water Ride, and the thrilling Enterprise Ride. Each ride is managed with top-notch safety protocols, ensuring a worry-free adventure. For those visiting with younger children, there are plenty of gentle rides and a dedicated kid’s zone that keeps the little ones entertained for hours. One of the standout features is the Wave Pool and the massive swimming area, which provides a refreshing break from the heat and adds to the resort-like feel of the park. Locker and changing facilities are clean and conveniently located. Food options are diverse and reasonably priced, with everything from South Indian meals to snacks and ice creams available throughout the park. What truly sets Queensland apart is its balance of thrill and relaxation. Whether you're looking for a full day of adrenaline rushes or a fun family outing, Queensland delivers. Affordable entry, ample parking, and easy access from Chennai city make this amusement park a must-visit destination. Highly recommended for anyone looking to make joyful memories!
YOGESH M — Google review
Queen's Land is a great amusement park to spend a joyful day with family. The ticket price is ₹750 for adults and ₹650 for children. Though it may seem a bit high, it's reasonable since all the rides inside are free. Some rides like the Rope Car have been discontinued. However, other rides such as the Free Fall and Roller Coaster were excellent and thrilling. The important thing to note when participating in water rides is that some rides operate only at specific times. It’s best to enjoy those rides first and visit the swimming pool last.

I've visited Queensland more than 10 times, and it never disappoints! It's truly one of the most attractive, spacious, and exciting theme parks in Chennai. Whether it's a first-time visit or your tenth, there's always something to enjoy. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, full-day outing with family or friends. Every time I go, I come back saying the same thing: “Wow!” The thrill, the energy, and the variety of experiences keep me coming back again and again. The park has a wide range of rides that cater to all age groups. My personal favorites are the Alpine Blitz, Himalayan water rides, and the scenic cable car ride. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the layout is easy to navigate thanks to clear maps and signage. Thrill Rides: Free Fall Tower (150 m tall!), roller coaster, Alpen Blitz Family & Kids Rides: Bumper cars, octopus, trampoline zone, Mini Wheel, Frog Slide, Fairy Train. Water Fun: Wave pool, Himalayan water ride, gender-segregated pools with attentive lifeguards. After so many visits, I can confidently say Queensland is one of the best amusement parks in and around Chennai

“Nice place but many rides were not working. Most rides are for adults, very few for kids. Could improve maintenance and offer more family-friendly attractions.” And the second thing is that FOOD has a very high rate and average taste... Some water rides are running for a short time...many places there is no sign board... Overall compared to the entry ticket rate my rating is 5/10...

VGP Marine Kingdom is a large aquarium in Chennai featuring five aquatic zones, an underwater tunnel, and a touch-pool exhibit. Visitors can enjoy live feeding shows and encounter a diverse array of marine creatures such as lionfish, sharks, starfish, lobsters, crabs, rays, and jellyfish. The facility is well-maintained with helpful staff and also includes an overpriced gift shop and food court.
Awesome aquarium with a wide variety of fishes! 🐠 The planning & display are amazing, with fishes divided according to their natural habitats like coastal waters, deep ocean, & mangroves. 🌊 One of the most eye-catching attractions is the Mermaid 🧜‍♀️ show at 2:00 PM, which lasts for 15 minutes. The underwater tunnel🚶‍♀️ is also very impressive & gives a thrilling experience. Guides are also available for school children to help them learn more about the fish. Overall, it’s a must-visit place for kids & families👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 to explore marine life up close✨.

Good aquarium with different species of fishes. They are arranged according to the depth they are found. The deep section in cool with 180 degree aquarium. The mermaid show is good for kids, but for the rest it is ok. The cafeteria inside has limited food options with average taste.

Excellent aquarium!!! Great experience!!! The aquarium is a great place to spend some quality time, not only for adults but also good for kids. A great learning opportunity for the kids, especially for inculcating the need for conservation and generating awareness that if they don't reduce pollution, they may not be able to see all these beautiful creatures. The collection includes many rare fishes and fishes with unique characteristics. The aquarium has clean washrooms evenly spaced. They also have a mermaid show and fish feeding in one of the biggest marine aquariums. A special shoutout to Mr. Thyagu, who was passionate to explain almost all the exhibits and characteristics of various fishes. He has a vast wealth of knowledge which he shares when hosting the fish feeding show. Overall a great experience.

I visited Marine Kingdom today with my friend, and it was a wonderful experience! The ticket price was ₹1350 for two adults (₹675 per person). From the ticket counter to the exit, all the staff were very polite, humble, and helpful. One thing to note — there’s no re-entry after you exit, and this rule is mentioned clearly at multiple places. The staff also inform visitors about it when entering, so make sure to explore everything before leaving. After purchasing the tickets, we received an entry card which is used for both entry and exit. Inside, there’s a VR experience area where you can pay ₹200 extra if you’d like to try it. Then comes the main attraction — the beautifully designed aquariums filled with a wide variety of colorful fish. The underwater tunnel is definitely the highlight! Watching stingrays and sharks swimming right above my head was an unforgettable experience. There’s also an area where you can touch starfish under staff supervision, which was really fun. Before exiting, there’s a cafeteria where we bought one popcorn and one egg puff for ₹200 — a bit pricey, but okay for the experience. Next to it, there’s a souvenir shop selling cute plushies, keychains, caps, T-shirts, and more. After that, you’ll find another cafeteria with two food stalls — we tried Maggi and a Belgian waffle, which cost ₹300. Outside, there’s yet another cafeteria area with 4–5 different food stalls. A big plus is the free luggage locker near the entrance — super convenient for visitors! Overall, Marine Kingdom is a great place to visit — clean, well-organized, and worth the experience!

Very good experience and phenomenal underwater views. Maintained well and is quite cleans. Food court and restrooms quality needs to be improved. Ms. Kasturi, the guide was lovely and knowledgeable. She was happy to share everything she knew about the marine life there and made our experience much more enjoyable. Do check mermaid show and live feeding timings in advance and plan your trip accordingly.

One of the best well maintained aquarium in India you can find. Visited Marine Kingdom as my kid loves aquatic animals and he enjoyed the experience. The place is well maintained and cleanliness is on top. They have a wide variety of aquatic animals and ambience is so good. Can spend around 2 to 3 hours inside the aquarium. Food options are limited and pretty expensive as outside food is not allowed.

It was an amazing experience! The place is full of beautiful marine life sharks, starfishes, octopus, and many colorful fishes. Definitely a must-visit spot in Chennai! 🌊🐠

Arulmigu Marundeeswarar Temple, Thiruvanmiyur (Chennai) Visited this majestic Shiva temple and felt completely rejuvenated by its serene and healing atmosphere. Highlights & History The temple is an ancient Paadal Petra Sthalam, praised by Saivite saints Appar and Sambandar in the 7th century . Originally built during the Pallava era and expanded by Chola and Vijayanagara rulers, its current structure dates back over 1,000 years . Known as “Marundeeswarar” (Lord of Medicines), legend says Shiva taught sage Agastya the healing secrets of herbs here . Devotees still seek blessings for health. Sage Valmiki and other saints like Bharadwaja, Markandeya, and even the celestial Kamadhenu cow are all connected to this temple’s lore . Architecture & Deity The temple sits on about 1 acre, with two grand seven-tiered gopurams on East Coast Road and West Tank Street . Inside, a large mandapam with 36 intricately carved pillars houses the serene Somaskanda form of Shiva, alongside shrines for Tripurasundari (Parvati), Murugan, Ganesha, Dakshinamurthy, and others . The self-manifested (swayambhu) Shiva Linga, called Palvannanathar, stands facing west — a rarity among Shiva temples . Visitor Experience The temple exudes a calm, spiritual energy. Devotees come here seeking healing and peace, often taking ritual dips in its sacred tank . It hosts six daily rituals and twelve annual festivals, including Panguni Brahmotsavam and Maha Shivaratri . After a recent ₹75 lakh renovation (2020 Kumbhabhishekam), the temple is beautifully maintained and vibrant . In summary, the Marundeeswarar Temple is far more than a historic structure — it feels like a living sanctuary of spiritual healing and timeless devotion. A definitive must-visit on Chennai’s temple trail. A unique feature of the temple is the sacred tree (Sthala Vriksham) under which Lord Shiva is believed to have given darshan. The space around the tree feels calm and spiritually powerful — a perfect spot to sit peacefully for a few minutes. The temple is spacious, well-maintained, and offers a serene experience, especially on weekdays. It's a great place to escape from the hustle of the city while still being in the heart of Chennai. Note: There are a few stray dogs outside the temple premises. They usually stay around the entrance and can be aggressive at times — it's best to stay cautious and avoid approaching them. A must-visit for anyone seeking a spiritually enriching experience in Chennai. Parking of vechile is available with a cost of 50

This massive Hindu deity Shiva temple situated in Tiruvanmayur offers the best sense of spiritual realisation. The presiding lord Marundheeshwarar is considered to have known for imparting sage Agastya with curative properties of various herbs and plants. Since then the temple has been a place of worship for people with diseases and various problems with their health, purely a belief that is followed by masses. The temple is believed to have partial feature of Pallava dynasty and partially with Chola art. One of the oldest temples of South India estimated to be 1300 years old, the temple complex is maintained neat and clean. Houses many other sannadhis of god/goddess, with a large temple pond and an ancient tree that has significance. There are few olden days stone carvings kept in the inner circumference of the temple. The Armenian Church, located in Chennai, is a historic monument that represents the cultural exchange and legacy of the Armenian community. Built in 1712 by Armenian merchants, it features a belfry with six bells that chime every Sunday at 9:30 AM. The church also houses around 350 graves, serving as a memorial to the once-thriving Armenian community in Madras.
A peaceful and historic gem in the heart of Chennai. The beautifully preserved historic architecture and serene atmosphere make it a special place. The caretaker offers a warm welcome and shares personal insights into the church’s unique history – well worth a visit!

Hidden Armenian culture in the heart of chennai. Better to visit on Sundays at 9:30am since that’s the only time you can see the bells ringing. The church might not be open late so it’s always better to visit early and not late. Photography and videography of ringing bells not allowed . You are not allowed to go near the bells. The bell tower is locked.

This is a stunningly beautiful Armenian Orthodox Church built in 1712. From the outside you won't even know that such a beautiful church exists, as the street outside is very busy and congested and the church's exterior wall and the main entrance may not be easily identifiable. Even the street vendors outside wrongly directed me to the catholic church nearby when I asked them about the Armenian church!! The place is maintained extremely neat and clean. It is a different feeling when you step inside the compound and as you walk past the main entrance the chaos of the busy city vanishes and you are suddenly transported into a different place altogether like a time traveler!! The place is very calm and quiet unlike the noisy and chaotic streets just outside!!! The caretaker informed that the church is open to all and anyone can come and pray. There is no regular mass at this church. It is maintained by a few Armenian families in Chennai. If you enjoy peaceful and calm places of worship, then this place is a must visit place for you!!!

My visit to the church was really unexpected, in the midst of a busy street, that too after having our breakfast from the opposite Murugan idli. The church was opened and l was delighted to know that we could enter the church and explore the interiors as informed by the caretaker who was sitting in front of the church. Church was very calm, silent place with greenary everywhere, so many old photos were hung on the walls showing the historical stories. Around 350graveyards were there inside the church surroundings with engravings. A huge bell was seen. The white church really gives us a peaceful mind, though is pretty old, rusty and has broken wooden works, benches and stairs.Do visit the Church atleast once guys, its really worth a heritage watch. Thankyou.

The one and only Armenian church in Chennai. More than 300 years old. It's believed that when Armenians came to Chennai for trading they built this church. This is the only one church seen with mother Mary ascending to heaven on the alter background. The architecture of the building is so unique and beautiful. Despite of the busy street outside this place has a calm and quiet atmosphere. They have bells on the Bell tower. Entry to the bell tower is restricted now because of it's age.

Visited Annai Velankanni Shrine in Besant Nagar on 11th October this year, and it was such a peaceful experience. The Annai Velankanni Shrine in Besant Nagar, Chennai, is a revered Catholic church dedicated to Our Lady of Good Health (Annai Velankanni) — a title of the Virgin Mary. It was built as a smaller replica of the famous Velankanni Church in Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu, which is often called the “Lourdes of the East.” The Besant Nagar shrine was established in the 1970s, mainly to serve devotees in Chennai who could not travel to Velankanni. Over the years, it has become one of the city’s most loved landmarks, attracting people of all faiths. Located near Elliot’s Beach, the church is known for its beautiful white façade, peaceful ambience, and evening masses held with the soothing sound of the sea in the background.

This stunning Gothic-style church, dedicated to Our Lady of Valankani is a must-visit. This is the newly constructed church just opposite the old shrine , nestled in the heart of Besant Nagar and right beside the beach. The intricate architecture, serene atmosphere, makes it an unforgettable experience.. The beauty of the stained-glass windows is so beautiful, the melodious chants, and the aura of devotion that penetrates here is another level of divine experiences. The church is opened in the morning and is closed in the afternoon and reopened around 5pm in the evening, plan accordingly while visiting this church, but the old shrine is open always. . Plenty of restaurants around to explore as well. The beach just beside it is clean and well maintained.

On a Monday, we visited Besant Nagar Annai Velankanni Church and Shrine after a long time. The shrine was maintained very neatly ( Everybody leave their shoes, chapels outside) and devotedly prayed to their core. The devotees donated sarees to the Matha Statue and instantly it will be wore and they piosly pray for their betterments, thanks givings for the goodness that they were able to get from their prayers. Many lighting candles in front of the shrine chappal. Many offered flowers and garlands. We can also feel the sanctity in the shrine, with bunch of joyful and satisfied mind in our heart. There are reverend fathers available in shrine area to give special blessings to all the devotees attending the shrine and offer their advices and guidances. The tall structure of the church and the inside architecture are very very beautiful as well as very neatly maintained. The benches provided in the church for praying in a silent manner to get the peaceful and satisfied mind during their visit. Since the feast of Annai Velankanni Church was started, the parking space is temporarily closed in side the campus. There are adequate arrangements of police for the security and proper traffic controlling by the Shrine. Altogether it was a pleasant and peaceful visit.

Had a good darshan, crowd was vibrant and it was flag hoisting time. Well maintained and coordinated inside the temple. Church entrance is crowded and parking facility was not there. Road got jammed due to evening traffic and the Church function. Better avoid driving your own vehicle, if so park far and enter. Enjoy the Besant Nagar beach and exit. :)

I had the privilege of visiting the masjid during Iftar time, and despite the crowds, I was struck by the serene atmosphere of peace and harmony. The delicious Iftar spread, generously arranged by the Jain community, was a heartwarming testament to the spirit of brotherhood. The masjid's amenities, including ample parking and spacious prayer areas, were impressive. What's more, the masjid's vintage charm added to its unique character, making the experience even more memorable...

Located along the Marina Beach Road, it is one of the must-visit beaches in Chennai. The beach attracts crowds from early morning to evening for fun activities and to enjoy the cool sea breeze.
Best experience you can get here. We went on a weekday and it’s more quieter than marina beach during night. Nice walking path in the beach and it’s clean. There is also skating park for kids. The shops are clean and as it’s weekday not all shops opened. Overall a must visit beach in Chennai. Don’t miss this even if u miss Marina beach.

Had fun time with family and kids.. having the sea as the backdrop there are a lot of busy shops selling fish, toys, mind games and luck shops. One can go on for a joy ride in a pony. The aromatic fish is one attractive feature to the beach. The beach is cleanly maintained and a portico of wooden planks have been laid to guide you to the beach from the main road. Nice place to hang out with your friends and family. Like the waves never stall, the memories keep on never ending.

Kart Attack is a well-maintained karting facility with decent seating and waiting areas. The karts are in good condition, and the track features moderate to easy turns. However, there can be long wait times, averaging 1.5 hours, so it's recommended to arrive early. The track offers medium-length courses with good turning and uses Honda motors for the karts.
What an absolutely thrilling experience! From the moment you arrive, the team provides fantastic guidance before you hit the track. They even supply helmets, making it safe for everyone—from little kids to adults—to join in on the fun! While the grounds are cozy, they pack a punch with excitement! You can choose between two exhilarating karting options—five minutes or ten minutes of pure adrenaline—at prices that suit every budget. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a first-timer, this is the ultimate spot to unleash your inner racer and have a blast on the track! Don't miss out on this amazing karting adventure!

“An exciting destination for go-karting enthusiasts, with a track that offers a fun mix of sharp turns and long stretches. While the karts and track deliver an adrenaline-packed experience, the overall maintenance could be improved, and a renovation would greatly enhance the ambiance. Fun spot, but brace for the wait 😅 Kart Attack is crazy popular on weekends — like, be ready to wait over an hour for just a 5-minute drive 🏎️. Not complaining, just a heads-up so you’re not surprised. The good stuff: • They give packed water bottles & soft drinks — handy while you wait • Seating area with fans + shade is a nice touch • Big thumbs up for the dedicated parking 👍 • Staff are chill and keep you updated on waiting times, so you’re not left wondering Could be better: • ₹350 for 5 mins + extra charge for the headband (worn under helmet)? Kinda meh. • Helmets really need some TLC — most of them stink. Please disinfect or clean regularly 🙏 • No two-seater karts for adults yet — would be awesome if that’s added soon! Overall: Super fun, just plan ahead if you’re going on a weekend. Worth a try, but don’t expect luxury 😄

Kart Attack – Super Friendly Staff and Great Vibes! Had an awesome time at Kart Attack! The staff were really kind and understanding – even though I’m a bit shorter than most kids my age, they didn’t make a big deal out of it. Instead of stopping us, they actually gave me a smaller kart that fit perfectly and made sure I could ride safely. They even let us go multiple rounds without rushing or cutting us off. Honestly, it felt like they cared more about us enjoying than just sticking to rules blindly. Super chill and helpful people, great service, and an overall fun experience. The architectural beauty of this historical building is unsurpassed in Chennai but sadly none of the government so far gave this monument the importance it deserves. Luckily for us the building lasted so long without any preservation. I must congratulate the present government for taking this up and saving this edifice of history, beauty and class. Now Chennai can proudly say " We have the Victoria Public Hall" with pride. I am sure once the whole preservation and repair project is completed this will be a marvel of Chennai.

Visited this place on July 2025 around 19:00. Sad that I couldn't enter as some work was going within the building and gate was closed. But, i got a chance to see this beautiful monument which holds historic importance. If you love to visit this place, I would recommend to take metro from KMBT Metro to Chennai Central. The moment you get out of metro and head towards entrance of the station, this building will be visible and it will capture your eyes!

one of Chennai’s oldest and most historically significant buildings, stands as a proud symbol of the city’s colonial-era heritage and cultural legacy. Located near the Government Museum and adjacent to the iconic Connemara Public Library, this heritage structure has recently undergone a much-needed and long-awaited restoration, breathing new life into its grand Victorian architecture. **Heritage & Architecture (5/5):** Built in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, the hall is a fine example of Indo-Saracenic architecture, with its red-brick façade, arched windows, domed roof, and intricate stonework. The ongoing renovation work has been meticulously carried out to preserve its original charm while reinforcing structural integrity. From what is visible during the restoration, great care has been taken to retain period details, including the ornate woodwork, stained glass elements, and decorative columns. **Renovation & Current Status (4/5):** As of now, the hall is under renovation by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu government. While the site remains closed to the general public, the progress is promising. Scaffolding covers parts of the building, but glimpses of restored sections reveal a renewed grandeur. The surrounding compound has been cleaned up, and protective fencing ensures the preservation of the site during construction. **Cultural Significance (5/5):** Victoria Public Hall holds immense historical value — it was the venue for the first session of the Indian National Congress in 1887 and has hosted countless public meetings, literary gatherings, and cultural events over the decades. Its revival is not just architectural but symbolic — a reconnection with Chennai’s intellectual and political past. **Accessibility & Location (4/5):** Situated in the cultural hub of Egmore, the hall is easily accessible by public transport, auto-rickshaws, and private vehicles. Its proximity to other landmarks like the Government Museum, Planetarium, and National Art Gallery makes it part of a larger heritage trail. Once reopened, it is expected to become a major attraction for tourists and history enthusiasts. **Future Prospects (4/5):** Plans indicate that the restored hall will serve as a multipurpose cultural center — hosting exhibitions, lectures, book launches, and music recitals. If managed well, it could become a vibrant space for art, literature, and public discourse, much like it was in the early 20th century. **Final Verdict: ★★★★☆ (4 out of 5 Stars)** Though currently closed for renovation, the respectful and detailed restoration of **Victoria Public Hall** inspires confidence and hope. It may not yet be fully accessible, but the progress so far earns it a solid 4-star rating for its historical importance, architectural revival, and future potential. *Recommended for:* Heritage lovers, history buffs, and cultural enthusiasts. Keep an eye out for its grand reopening — it’s set to reclaim its place as one of Chennai’s most treasured landmarks. **Note:** While you can’t go inside yet, a walk around the perimeter offers a glimpse of Chennai’s regal past — and a promising future.

The Chennai Lighthouse, a concrete structure erected in 1977, stands at an impressive height of 46 meters and features a public viewing gallery. Situated on Marina Beach, it is one of the city's lesser-explored tourist attractions. This architectural marvel offers visitors the opportunity to witness breathtaking views of the Bay of Bengal and the bustling cityscape. With its unique design and an elevator for accessibility, this lighthouse provides an unparalleled experience for those seeking panoramic vistas of Chennai's coastal beauty.
Chennai Lighthouse stands tall on Marina Beach, offering stunning coastal views. It’s one of the few lighthouses in India open to the public with an elevator. The panoramic view of the city, sea, and beach from the top is truly memorable. Evenings are the best time to visit, with sea breeze and sunset colours all around. The small museum inside traces the history of lighthouses and maritime Chennai. A calm, breezy spot perfect for photography, relaxation, and enjoying the Marina vibe.

It's an amazing idea to build a lighthouse at Marina beach. The view is amazing for the top floor. But there are a lot of points of improvement. There is only one lift. It is old and slow. A 10 floor building should have a modern and faster lift. The space on the top is very narrow. They can accommodate only 20 people max at one time. They give only 10 minutes to enjoy the views. I had several doubts. Why are they not using other floors to allow people to enjoy the view. If they can only use the top floor, then they should have built it bigger to accommodate more people. The idea of a lighthouse is good but execution is very poor. It feels better to have something than have nothing.

The Chennai Lighthouse is a great place to visit, especially for those who enjoy scenic views. The entry fee is quite reasonable—just ₹20 for Indian adults. However, in my opinion, the viewing time at the top is limited to only 5–10 minutes, which feels too short. It would be much better if visitors were allowed more time to enjoy the panoramic view from the top.

🌊 Chennai Lighthouse I visited the Chennai Lighthouse recently, and honestly, I didn’t expect to be this amazed. Located right on Marina Beach, it gives you one of the best aerial views of the Bay of Bengal. Once you take the elevator up (yes, thankfully no climbing!), you’re greeted with a wide open view of the beach, the sea, and the city stretching far beyond and the sea breeze up there is super refreshing, especially during the evening. 📸 Tip: Go during sunset for the best experience.

In addition to the main shrine of Lord Hanuman, the temple houses separate shrines for Lord Rama, Lord Krishna, and other deities Visitors often praise the authentic prasadam offerings, such as ghee-melting pepper rice and venpongal. Try viswaroopa dharshan in the early hours. Located approximately 6 kilometers from Chennai International Airport and about 20 kilometers from Chennai Central, the temple is easily accessible and serves as a significant spiritual destination for devotees in and around Chennai. Difficult parking in the area

I recently visited the Nanganallur Anjaneyar Temple and had a truly wonderful experience. The 32-foot Hanuman idol is absolutely majestic and awe-inspiring. The temple premises are spotless and very well maintained, creating a calm and spiritual atmosphere. The priests are courteous, and the crowd management is impressive even during peak hours. I felt a deep sense of peace performing pradakshina and appreciated the delicious prasadam. Highly recommended for anyone seeking blessings and positivity in Chennai!

Anjaneya swamy's huge statue here is very beautiful and you can also see Anjaneyar from outside the temple. Prasadams and theertham are provided here at every sanctum. Seperate fee charged for ghee donation and vada mala.... Flowers, slipper stands, hand wash, foot wash, photo and statue shops all are outside the temple... Easy to notice and peaceful temple with divine blessings.

This is one of the most beautiful temple in Nanganallur. The Anjaneyar is visible from outside as well. Its like a landmark for this area. People from faraway places visit this temple. A very serene temple.

We visited this temple on a Purattasi Saturday. It was full of divine vibes and chants. It was awesome to see the mighty Anjaneyar idol. It was little crowded as we visited in the evening at the peak hours and special prasadham was provided. There are many shops in the street for buying flowers, idols, snacks, appalams & vadams, and small hotels just like Mylapore.

Chennai Snake Park is a family-friendly destination that houses a diverse collection of snakes in cages and crocodiles in open-air enclosures. Situated adjacent to the expansive Guindy National Park, it serves as one of the city's prominent ex-situ conservation sites for reptiles.
Interesting place to visit and learn about some reptiles. Tickets are very reasonable at only Rs. 40 per adult. Not very crowded on a weekend so one can explore very nicely. There's a cafe outside where food is good and reasonably priced. Kudos to the park for the conservation efforts as well.

Chennai Snake Park – Informative and Fascinating Visit Visited the Chennai Snake Park recently and had an enjoyable and educational experience. It’s a great spot for families, especially kids, to learn about reptiles in a safe and well-maintained environment. Entry & Charges: Parking fee: ₹50 for vehicles Entry ticket: ₹30 per person Camera charge: ₹20 What to Expect: A wide variety of snakes on display, including both venomous and non-venomous species. There are also crocodiles, lizards, and turtles in well-secured enclosures. A small museum section inside showcases preserved specimens of reptiles and amphibians that have died naturally—very educational. Informative boards and explanatory texts in English and Tamil are displayed near every enclosure, helping visitors learn about the species, habitats, and conservation efforts. Suitable For: Great for school trips, family outings, or nature lovers. The park is not too big, so it's easy to walk through in about an hour. Overall: A good mix of education and wildlife exploration. Affordable, well-maintained, and worth visiting if you're in the Guindy area. Be sure to go early to avoid the crowd and heat!

The Chennai Snake Park is located right next to the Children’s Park of Guindy National Park, though you’ll need to buy a separate ticket to enter. It’s at the end of the route, but definitely worth visiting. You’ll get to see a wide variety of snakes, many of them actively moving, which is fascinating to watch. Apart from snakes, there are also other reptiles like tortoises and more. Sometimes they even host shows and demonstrations, which add to the experience. A special highlight is the artist inside who makes portraits at a very minimal price — his work is amazing, and it’s a must-try if you’re visiting. Overall, it’s a wonderful place to explore after Guindy National Park, especially for those interested in reptiles and wildlife.

I recently visited the Chennai Snake Park, and it turned out to be a truly fascinating and educational experience. Located within the Guindy National Park premises, this park is a must-visit for anyone interested in reptiles, wildlife conservation, or simply exploring something unique in Chennai. The first thing that struck me was the peaceful and natural environment of the park. Surrounded by greenery, the place was well-maintained and clean, providing a refreshing escape from the city's hustle and bustle. The layout of the park was simple yet informative, making it easy to explore at a comfortable pace. The park houses a wide variety of snake species, including both venomous and non-venomous types. From cobras, vipers, and kraits to pythons and rat snakes, the diversity was impressive. Each enclosure had detailed boards providing information about the species, their habitat, behavior, and importance in the ecosystem. It was quite educational and made the visit even more meaningful. In addition to snakes, the park also features other reptiles such as crocodiles, lizards, and turtles, making it a complete reptile-focused experience. The enclosures were thoughtfully designed, allowing visitors to observe the animals safely and clearly. One of the highlights was the live snake handling show and awareness session conducted by the staff. It was informative and helped dispel common myths and fears about snakes. The handlers demonstrated how snakes are rescued and explained the importance of their role in nature. The staff at the park were friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to answer questions or guide visitors. I appreciated their efforts in promoting wildlife awareness and conservation. Overall, my visit to Chennai Snake Park was both enjoyable and enlightening. It’s a great spot for families, students, nature lovers, or anyone curious about the reptile world. I would highly recommend visiting this park if you're in Chennai — it’s a rare experience that’s both fun and educational.

Spent a great morning seeing up close the different snakes of India with detailed descriptions of which were venomous and non venomous. The highlight of the trip were the saltwater crocodiles which can only be seen to be believed. But very much left hoping not to see any of these reptiles in the wild.

My nieces really liked the place. They enjoyed watching different varieties of snakes. There were lots of crocodiles also. Good place for kids.

We paid Rs 30 per head and Rs 20 for mobile camera. All the snakes are kept inside the glass and even the villainous snakes looks sad inside the glass caged. While the turtles and crocodile are motionless. It's not worth visiting the snake park. Inside the snake park, there is one shop, which is very costly.

The divine presence of the Astalakshmis alongside Mahavishnu brings a sense of peace and positivity. There is ample parking space near the seashore, making it a perfect spot for a memorable outing on a budget. Although the temple is currently under renovation, it is still worth a visit.

Located by the ocean, this temple is really serene. However, it’s under renovation for quite long, visited twice but haven’t been able to see all the deities yet. Currently only one shrine of Sita-Ram-Lakshman is open. Walk along the ocean with huge waves was amazing.

Peaceful Darshan by the Beach Visited the Ashtalakshmi Temple on a Sunday morning and was able to get darshan immediately without any waiting. The temple is currently under renovation, but the spiritual atmosphere remains serene. Located right by the beach, the surroundings are lively with plenty of street shopping options — from puja items and tender coconuts to toys, kids’ rides, and even fresh fruits and vegetables. Basic amenities like paid public toilets are also available nearby. A good place to combine a spiritual visit with a refreshing walk by the beach.

Shri Ashtalakshmi Temple in Besant Nagar, Chennai, is a beautiful seaside temple dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi in her eight divine forms — symbolising wealth, knowledge, courage, and prosperity. 🌸🙏 Located near Elliot’s Beach, the temple’s unique multi-tier architecture and serene sea breeze make it a truly spiritual experience. Devotees visit here to seek blessings and peace in a divine coastal setting. Although since I visited in the noon, when the temple remains closed, I couldn't visited inside, however I took the blessings of Lakshmi Maa from outside itself.

Visiting the Ashtalakshmi Temple was a soul-soothing experience. Located right by the sea, each form of Goddess Lakshmi radiates a unique energy. I felt peaceful, protected, and truly blessed The temple is built in the shape of “Om”, which is considered the most sacred sound in Hinduism. It has four levels, and each form of Lakshmi is placed on a different tier. You climb step-by-step, symbolically ascending towards spiritual growth. The main shrine houses Lakshmi ji with Lord Vishnu

One of the most serene and calm temples located in the heart of Chennai city in Mylapore. A peaceful place with lots of greenery and flowering plants around the campus. An ideal place to spend some quiet time in meditation. It can be accessed by MTC buses and also from Thirumayilai MRTS Railway Station. According to Wikipedia Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai is a monastic organisation for those men who were taught into existence by Sri Ramakrishna (1836–1886), a 19th-century saint of Bengal. The motto of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission is: "For one's own salvation, and for the welfare of the world".The math in Chennai is the first branch center of the Ramakrishna Order in Southern India. It was established in 1897 by Swami Ramakrishnananda, one of the direct disciples of Sri Ramakrishna. Besides Swami Ramakrishnananda, the Math was visited by Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Nirmalananda, Swami Shivananda, Swami Abhedananda, Swami Premananda, Swami Niranjanananda, Swami Trigunatitananda, and Swami Vijnanananda. Sri Ramakrishna Math completed 100 years of service in 1997. The shrine of Sri Ramakrishna set up in 1917 was too small to accommodate the growing number of devotees. The idea of a universal temple was conceived, and Swami Bhuteshanandaji Maharaj, the 12th president of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, laid the foundation stone for the Universal Temple on December 1, 1994. It was realized by temple architect G Venkataramana Reddy. On February 7, 2000, the temple was dedicated by Swami Ranganathananda, the 13th president of the Ramakrishna Order. The Madras Math is today the largest publication house of the Ramakrishna Order. The Math currently publishes 292 titles in English, 333 in Tamil and 17 in Sanskrit/English. The Math published its first major book – Swami Vivekananda's Inspired Talks, in 1909. In the same year was published Swami Ramakrishnananda's Universe and Man. In 1909 came his next book Krishna: Pastoral and King-maker followed by The Soul of Man in 1910. The Math publishes 2 monthly journals: The Vedanta Kesari in English and Sri Ramakrishna Vijayam in Tamil. The Vedanta Kesari was started in 1914 and has over the years built up a good reputation for its authenticity and scholarship. Sri Ramakrishna Vijayam, started in 1921, has today the largest circulation among religious journals in Tamil. A charitable allopathic-cum-homeopathic dispensary with general, dental, eye, ENT, surgical, X-ray, ultrasound scanning, paediatrics, ECG, gynaecology, physiotherapy and laboratory sections, and clinics for TB and diabetes is run by the math on the campus. About 220,000 cases are treated annually. A weekly mobile medical unit, which treats 10,000 cases annually. Donations are accepted by the Math which are used to support its various activities like publications, medical facilities, education, flood relief and many others.

This Math was established by disciples of Shri Ramakrishna. The original structure crumbled soon after building it. So there was another structure built, which is now referred to as old temple. Recently a new structure is built and it is referred to as new temple. Entire premises are clean and very well maintained. It has positive vibes which you can feel as soon as you enter this place. I preferred to sit for some time in the new temple, it gave me absolute peace of mind. Would definitely recommend to go there and spend some quiet time.

Nestled in the bustling heart of Chennai, Guindy National Park stands as a serene oasis amidst urban life. This lush green space, rich in history and biodiversity, was once part of the colonial Guindy Lodge, which served as the residence for British governors. Today, it is recognized as one of India's smallest national parks and offers a delightful escape for families. With its sprawling trees and diverse wildlife, visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls while spotting various animals that call this park home.
Guindy Children’s Park is a wonderful place for families and kids to enjoy a fun day outdoors. Located within Guindy National Park, it offers a safe and green environment in the heart of Chennai. The park has a variety of small animals, birds, and reptiles, which makes it both entertaining and educational for children. The play area is well-maintained with swings, slides, and other activities that keep kids engaged. The walking paths are shaded by trees, making it comfortable even on sunny days. It’s also a great spot for school trips, picnics, and family outings. Entry fees are affordable, and the staff ensures the park remains clean and organized. Parents appreciate that it’s not too crowded compared to larger zoos, so children can enjoy at their own pace. Overall, Guindy Children’s Park is a perfect weekend destination for families looking to combine fun, learning, and a little adventure for their kids.

Best place with lots of greenery. Kids can enjoy the park and the few animals around. Toilets and drinking water facilities are available in many places, and surprisingly, they are clean and easily accessible. However, I feel there’s a lack of animals—only a few can be seen here. Other than that, it’s a great place for kids to spend their day. The only downside is that food and snacks inside are a bit costlier compared to outside. Price Details: Adult - ₹60 Below 5 Years - Free

Nice place in the heart of the city. Best part is the cleanliness (rarely seen in a park of this size) and the verdant greenery. Could do with a few more animal species. The huge bird cage which is the star attraction could have been a walk-in structure like other world class zoos and could also do with a flowing water feature given that most of the birds are aquatic. My son really liked the place

I visited Guindy Children’s Park yesterday and had a very pleasant experience. It’s a wonderful place to visit with children, family, or even friends if you want to spend a few peaceful hours in the middle of the city. The park is clean and green with plenty of trees, making it comfortable to walk around. Children will really enjoy seeing the animals and birds here, such as deer, turtles, crocodiles, snakes, and different bird species. The entry fee is very affordable, and it feels like a mini-zoo where kids can learn as well as have fun. There is also a small play area and open space for them to run around. However, a few enclosures and boards could be better maintained, and there aren’t many food or water facilities inside, so it’s best to carry your own. Overall, it’s a simple yet enjoyable spot, perfect for a short and refreshing outing in Chennai.

The Theosophical Society, founded in New York in the late 19th century and later relocated to Chennai, embraces the principle of universal brotherhood regardless of race or religion. Its lush grounds feature a remarkable garden with diverse trees and an ancient banyan tree spanning thousands of square meters. Visitors can revel in the tranquility away from urban noise and explore various religious monuments on site, including a church, mosque, Hindu temple, Buddhist shrine, and Zoroastrian fire altar.
One of the best place to go for a leisure walk, despite the odd opening hours! When we think about why those hours are offered for the visitors, it does makes sense. This few hours of visiting time leads to less ecological damage inside and hence preserve the nature in it's best form. The architecture is simple yet profound, exuding a sense of reverence and respect. The surrounding garden adds a serene atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for reflection and tribute. As one of the important war memorials in India, it holds a deep cultural and historical significance. It stands as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers, evoking patriotism and gratitude among visitors.

Nice, beautiful, clean and well organised and well maintained place... this place is symbolises as patriotic ambience of the Nation... this Victory War Memorial is just around 7 to 8 minutes distance from MGR Chennai Central Railway station and also around 10 minutes from Asia's largest Marina Beach by OLA Auto... this Victory War Memorial is surrounded by Indian Army Regional HQ, Indian Navy Base Camp (INS Adyar), Chennai Port and Central IB, CISF office and mess...

Opposite the Chennai Port Trust Gate No.4, the Victory War Memorial, formerly called the Cupid's bow, is a memorial for the war dead in Chennai, India, It was initially constructed to commemorate the victory of the Allied Armies during World War I (1914–1918) and later became the victory war memorial for World War II (1939–1945). Post India's independence it has honored the fallen Indian soldiers. The outer rooms and canopies have been named after WWI and II battlegrounds- Mesopotamia, Sudan etc.The main tower has pillars around it commemorating the wars India has fought after independence along with the names of the soldiers/martyrs. The memorial has a somber and serene aura around it. It is almost on a traffic island. Visitors can walk around it. Access to the inner lawn and closer to the victory tower is restricted. It is maintained a small section of Indian army soldiers. The memorial is a must visit.

A must visit place, to pay tribute to our warriors. Taking children to such places is very important to teach them what destruction to lives and property can be caused by wars and also to show how several heroic people have sacrificed their lives for the country.

Perarignar Anna Memorial is a beautiful monument and park dedicated to the revered Dravidian leader Aringar Annadurai and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, C.N. Annadurai. The memorial, located on Marina Beach, features a museum showcasing Annadurai's life and political contributions. The 510-hectare area also includes a safari park, animal house, and aquarium, making it an ideal destination for families to enjoy a day out in the lush green surroundings.
It was incredible to visit this place. Such a grand spot it is. The huge structures erected at this memorial site are speechless to see. The architectural design of the entire area is literally amazing to explore. Yes, it is indeed a great spot for visiting.

A great stop on Marina Beach to honor C.N. Annadurai, architect of Dravidian movement. The photo exhibits and The museum are informative. The park is serene, but cleanliness could improve—some litter detracts from the experience. Free entry, wheelchair-accessible. Worth a visit for its history, despite minor upkeep issues

We visited the place on the first weekend after Diwali, so it was more crowded than usual. The memorial is a vast place with more landmarks within it like the museum and Library. The light settings were nice at night. The area was neat and well maintained except the toilet.

Perarignar Anna Memorial dedicated to the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu C. N. Annadurai (Anna). Memorial Well maintained. Perarignar Anna," was Chief Minister of Madras and Tamil Nadu for less than two years between 1967 and 1969. Annadurai then formed party, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). His party defeated the dominant Indian National Congress in the 1967 Madras State election. As chief minister of Madras, he removed Hindi's official status in the state. and renamed the state to Tamil Nadu ("land of Tamils"). When Annadurai died in 1969 from cancer, his funeral procession was attended by 15 million people. The memorial also houses a museum on Annadurai, which is located at the northern side.

The Click Art Museum, located in Injambakkam, is a captivating destination for art enthusiasts and Instagram lovers alike. This innovative museum features an impressive collection of interactive 3D art pieces strategically placed to create stunning illusions. Visitors can immerse themselves in the artwork, whether it's posing with an apple from Adam or appearing to be cut in half. As India's first Trick Art museum, it offers a delightful experience for all ages.
The click art museum is present in the second floor inside Vgp snow kingdom. It’s a prefect place to capture some creative shots. The place is well maintained and air conditioned. It would approximately take 1 hour to cover if you want to capture perfect shots. When we went at noon it was not crowded. Do visit this place if you nearby.
Priscilla S — Google review
This is situated inside the snow kingdom. A must visit place if you are a creative photo freak. Just Rs.100 more per person on your snow kingdom ticket of Rs.750 to enter this place. You can take time and capture your moments with these click arts on the walls. There is no time restriction and also it was less crowded when we visited. The suggestive positions where to pose and from where to click the pic are given on the floor for you to get the best photographs.
Magesh S — Google review
The 3D artworks are incredibly creative and perfect for quirky photos. Great for kids and adults alike – you can pose, laugh, and create some truly memorable moments.
Prithivi R — Google review
Visited Click Art Museum on a Sunday with my family after reading some positive reviews online. We were looking forward to an interactive and fun experience, but unfortunately, it turned out to be quite disappointing. Firstly, many of the earlier artworks that made this museum popular have been removed. What’s left is a very limited number of exhibits, which don’t justify the excitement or the entry fee. The space feels cramped, and there’s little room to enjoy or interact with the art comfortably. There is also no staff around to help or guide visitors on how to pose with the 3D artworks, which is supposed to be the main attraction. For first-time visitors or families with children, this lack of assistance takes away much of the experience. The ticket cost is ₹100 per person, which felt overpriced considering the number of artworks on display and the overall quality of the visit. To be fair, the staff at the counter did mention there were fewer exhibits currently available. But even with that warning, the experience didn’t feel worth the time or money. The concept of the museum is still unique and has potential, but it badly needs a revamp — more artworks, better lighting, larger space, and some staff to guide visitors would make a big difference. Until then, I would suggest managing your expectations or reconsidering the visit if you’re looking for a complete family outing experience.

This gallery is above the snow world. These pictures are painted on the wall in such a way that it looks so much more alive. It gives us a 3D view. I won't say that it is a must watch but never the less it is fun once a while.
Pavithra S — Google review
This is not a separate spot. It is located inside the VGP Snow Kingdom. The 3D art is very creative and great to take photos. If no crowd one could easily take photos with suggested pose and photo taking spots with all the art works within 1 hour.

Our Lady of Light Shrine, also known as Luz Church, is a small 16th-century Catholic church built in Portuguese style. The interior is adorned with gilded decorations and houses a shrine of Madonna and child. Renovated during British rule, the church still retains its original Portuguese architectural design. According to local folklore, Portuguese sailors were guided to shore by a bright white light during a storm at sea.
Luz Church is also known as Our Lady of Light Church. It is one of the oldest churches in Chennai, built by the Portuguese in 1516. It is a beautiful blend of European and Indian architectural styles. The church has a serene atmosphere, making it a peaceful place for prayer and reflection. Despite being over 500 years old, it remains well-maintained and continues to be an important place of worship for the local Christian community.

Visited the church during a typical Saturday afternoon, it was peaceful, there was serenity, one could feel the calmness and comfort in the air and atmosphere inside. A rich and historic place of worship which has been standing tall for over 500 years in the heart of chennai is a must visit place for anyone seeking for some peace. The place has ample parking spaces for both 2 wheelers and 4 wheelers and is easy to navigate and locate from the maps as well.

The Shrine of Apostle Thomas is a Catholic church from the 16th century located on Little Mount in Chennai, India. The cave where St. Thomas is said to have lived is located within the shrine grounds, and visitors can see his footprints as well as an altar dedicated to him. Some believe that Thomas left behind a palm print when he fled the persecution of Christians.
Christmas Eve Mass in English was phenomenal. They have service in Korean, English, and Tamil. The faith community is strong and welcoming. There is a piece of Christ's crucifix in a shrine, which is a must visit site.

The Shrine of Our Lady of Health & St. Thomas the Apostle, located in Little Mount, Chennai. In 1551 AD, the Portuguese built a church dedicated to Our Lady of Health at the site. It blends historical and spiritual importance, marking the location where St. Thomas is believed to have sought refuge. CAVE: According to local tradition, St. Thomas sought refuge in this cave while facing persecution. SPRING: Within the cave, there's a natural spring. Tradition holds that St. Thomas miraculously created this spring to quench his thirst. The cave and the spring, add a layer of historical and spiritual significance to the shrine, making it a unique and revered site for Christians in India.

One of the oldest churches in Chennai—regardless of your faith, this place radiates a unique sense of positivity, especially with its elevated structure rising above the surroundings. The church holds deep historical significance, particularly related to Saint Thomas. Parking is available on both sides, but entering through the front gives you a feeling like you’re stepping into the outskirts of Chennai.
